"['Leaving the City'] has the rhyme at the end of each line and the internal rhymes that follow one meter, and a secondary set of internal rhymes that sort of quietly annunciate a contrary meter that's overlaid on the first meter." She also said she "overlaid a contrary musical meter" on top of all that, and that I had to be "conscious of the sublimated contrary meter in order to trace the rhyme." The rhyme scheme for that song was so complicated that she had to create a chart to trace it: "I had a little key," she said. "So there was like a crescent moon and a square and a heart and a diamond representing the different considerations. The heart represents this one particular consideration of rhyme, the diamond represents a different consideration of rhythm, and here's the secondary rhyme and here's the tertiary rhyme. Sometimes they would overlap, and that was a fun little puzzle. I'd have to go back and change what led up to it for all the different imperatives to agree." ...I asked Newsom why she goes to the trouble of constructing such elaborate musical structures. "The thing is, I don't know why," she said. "But... I do have a real belief that the exact right word—in terms of conveying meaning as efficiently and correctly and concisely as possible—will also be the word that agrees in terms of rhyme, musical weight, syllabic weight, beauty, and elegance. I think that words are magical. All of that effort is all about uncovering the word that is just sitting there waiting for you, and when you find it, it's like the equivalent of watching your team get a touchdown. It's just like WHOA. And you run in circles and say, 'Fuck yeah!'"

Dog
The first time I read Dog, it was about a dog wandering the streets enjoying the surroundings and taking in sights and smells of the city. Reading the poem, a second and third time led me to believe that there are some political connotations. The dog talks about a police officer that may not taste good, and that he would rather eat beef but then says that he does “not hate policemen but has no use for them” and proceeds to say that between a cow and the “policeman either might do.” Maybe he really does hate policemen enough to eat them should the opportunity present itself. Shortly after those statements he walks past Congressman Doyle who he states he is “not afraid of but that he is just another fire hydrant” to him. The irony and objective correlative of it is that dogs do pee on fire hydrants, but many humans might like to do the same to some congressmen if they were not taking the chance of being imprisoned for it. But this dog does not have time to pee on the congressman because he is free regardless of the “discouraging, depressing, and absurd” comments he hears. He goes on to say that he is free and cannot perjure himself and will tell the truth because of democracy and the right to be honest and or have free speech if you will. He does not want to be just another “dog” that is told what to do and to follow the normalcies of life without putting his perspective into things. He does not want to be another puppet “with his head cocked sideways, like a living question mark” not knowing anything about his existence or purpose in life.
Dog
BY LAWRENCE FERLINGHETTI
The dog trots freely in the street
and sees reality
and the things he sees
are bigger than himself
and the things he sees
are his reality
Drunks in doorways
Moons on trees
The dog trots freely thru the street
and the things he sees
are smaller than himself
Fish on newsprint
Ants in holes
Chickens in Chinatown windows
their heads a block away
The dog trots freely in the street
and the things he smells
smell something like himself
The dog trots freely in the street
past puddles and babies
cats and cigars
poolrooms and policemen
He doesn’t hate cops
He merely has no use for them
and he goes past them
and past the dead cows hung up whole
in front of the San Francisco Meat Market
He would rather eat a tender cow
than a tough policeman
though either might do
And he goes past the Romeo Ravioli Factory
and past Coit’s Tower
and past Congressman Doyle
He’s afraid of Coit’s Tower
but he’s not afraid of Congressman Doyle
although what he hears is very discouraging
very depressing
very absurd
to a sad young dog like himself
to a serious dog like himself
But he has his own free world to live in
His own fleas to eat
He will not be muzzled
Congressman Doyle is just another
fire hydrant
to him
The dog trots freely in the street
and has his own dog’s life to live
and to think about
and to reflect upon
touching and tasting and testing everything
investigating everything
without benefit of perjury
a real realist
with a real tale to tell
and a real tail to tell it with
a real live
              barking
                         democratic dog
engaged in real
                      free enterprise
with something to say
                             about ontology
something to say
                        about reality
                                        and how to see it
                                                               and how to hear it
with his head cocked sideways
                                       at streetcorners
as if he is just about to have
                                       his picture taken
                                                             for Victor Records
                                  listening for
                                                   His Master’s Voice
                      and looking
                                       like a living questionmark
                                                                 into the
                                                              great gramaphone
                                                           of puzzling existence
                 with its wondrous hollow horn
                         which always seems
                     just about to spout forth
                                                      some Victorious answer
                                                              to everything

yk as your local golden ratio enjoyer, i thought most of my brainrot from this event would be from the re-use of the daring wager consumable, or the fact that there's two decorations for ratio and aventurine
but i think i wanna bring something else to light
Tumblr media
this ducky. it showed up next to dr ratio's notebook, so obviously there's a double confirmation that the ducky is related to him too.
we know that dr ratio loves baths because they clear his mind of clutter and filth...but does that cleaning and peace of mind make it all too quiet for him? does the quiet remind him of how quiet his surroundings are? does the crushing pain of not fitting in eat at him? does the reminder that no one truly understands him hurt that bad? does he regret the distance between him and the world?

Random question from my sleepy morning brain: If a Yeerk, but not it's human host, is nervous, does the host's heart beat faster? Without the Yeerk doing it on purpose, I mean. (Specifying human because who knows how aliens react to being nervous even when they aren't Controlled).
I think the answer is "yes," that a yeerk's nervousness would make the host's heart speed up, mostly based on things Jake describes Tom's body doing at various points in the series:
He was making no effort to pretend to actually be Tom... His fists were clenched at his side, his jaw seemed to tighten so that the words could barely force their way past bared teeth. I'd seen Tom this way once, just once, when he'd been wrongly accused of cheating on a test. — #53
"What?" Tom's eyes bulged in shock. "Tuesday? Dad, no way! Four days? I can't stay away for four days!" "You can and you will," my father said, losing his patience. "We're going as a family and that's final." Tom's throat worked. — #31
I heard a sound that was strange because it was so normal. It was laughter. Human laughter. The humans... the Human-Controllers — because that's what they were — were laughing, like they were at some kind of a show [Elfangor's death]. For a moment it seemed to me that one of those laughing voices was familiar... —#1
[Temrash 114 implies that if Jake joins the Sharing, then he'll get out of having to do homework. Jake points out that that makes no sense.] Tom considered for a moment. He blinked and kind of looked away, almost like he was embarrassed. "No. I don't want you thinking that," he admitted. "Tell you what, though, come to the meeting and I'll help you do the homework when we get home." — MM4
So that's not absolute proof of the autonomic nervous system responding to the yeerk, but I'd say there's evidence that Tom's body shows automatic responses that are clearly yeerk-origin. Like, that has to be the yeerk flinching in MM4 because Jake called out his mistake in pretending to be human — Tom has no reason to flinch like that. And it has to be the yeerk being visibly shocked and afraid at the idea of a four-day vacation in #31 — again, there's no reason for Tom to feel that way, and there's no reason to fake that reaction because it makes no sense for Tom to be scared of four days away from civilization.

Heyy, just wanted to inform you date everything isn't free and the pre-orders are already out! There's a pre-purchase promo with an early bird dlc. Anyway I followed you for tadc so I got a bit jumpscared when you started posting about my newest obsession omg
HAHAH as a formerly selfshipping aroace, of course a game about dating all the objects around your house (with amazing designs and voices) would catch my attention
Plus two selfshippers I follow were already posting about it
But that's quite alright. There is TONS of stuff in this game and it seems like it'll be top quality too, so I totally understand

Objectober 2024 Day 13 - "Headcanon"
The most non-cannon post of objectober, because it's basically how I came up with Koi Fish. Because of this today's is just a doodle.

Aizawa canonically getting so blackout drunk that he doesn't even remember drinking when he wakes up the next day, and has thus convinced himself that he just Never Gets Drunk Ever is by far the funniest thing the light novels ever gave us by the way because it implies his friends have either never bothered to tell him what he's like when he's drunk or that they have tried to tell him and Aizawa just refuses to listen/believe them
