Note: this post may be edited and added to as we get closer to Bylerween and receive more questions. Up-to-date as of 09/29/2023.

Question: Where are the themes? Where are the prompts? Answer: Here. The more detailed prompts are under the read-more cut.

Q: How do I submit an entry to this event? A: It’s as simple as making a tumblr post and tagging us! Please see this post for more info.

Q: What counts as a "fanwork"? A: We are accepting more than just fanart and fanfiction. We invite you to be creative with your Bylerween entries! You can post artwork, fanfics, video edits, gifsets, moodboards, memes, analysis, playlists, whatever you can come up with—if it's creative, fits the themes, and follows the rules, it's fair game.

Q: Can I post one piece of fanwork that includes multiple prompts/themes? A: Yes. Feel free to use inspiration from just one, two, or all three themes for each day! When trying to determine which Day theme fits best for posting a fanwork that touches on multiple themes across multiple days, feel free to just use your best judgment and post on the day/theme that has a bigger part in the fic, or is the closest match.

Q: Do I need to use any of the themes? A: This answer is a "yes, but"! We tried to be thorough with all of our Bylerween themes to cover all things Halloween + Autumn, but if you think there's a theme that we missed, please let us know! You also have the freedom to stretch the themes a little bit. Theoretically, as long as it features Byler and Halloween, autumn, or horror/supernatural themes, you're good to go.

Q: Does [X] fit this theme day, or this theme day? Which day should I post? A: Use your discretion on which theme your fanwork best fits, and you can tag multiple themes. Post on the day that corresponds best to the most prominent theme in your fanwork (use your discretion)!

Q: Can I use an old fanwork I've already posted somewhere else as an entry for Bylerween? A: No. The point is to inspire a wave of new fanworks. We will be highlighting pre-Bylerween fics/artwork in the weeks leading up to Byler Halloween Week, and have a daily queue of older Byler posts running until the event.

Q: What is a Bylerween Rec, and how do I submit one? A: We want to highlight older fanfics before Bylerween officially starts! Beginning October 1st, you can send us asks recommending fics published before Bylerween that are relevant to our themes! Please see our post here for more information. Q: Can the fic I post be a prequel/sequel to/in the same universe as another one I've already posted? A: Yes! As long as it is a new work, fits one of our themes/prompts, and follows our rules and guidelines, you can post it for Bylerween.

Q: Can I post my Bylerween fanwork to other platforms (outside of Tumblr and AO3)? A: Yes.

Q: How do I post to the AO3 collection? A: See this article for a generic, step-by-step how-to. Our AO3 collection is here. Please wait until your fic's best-fit theme day to post!

Q: Do chaptered fics need to be posted all at once? A: No! Just make sure chapter one is posted on the designated theme day, feel free to update as you are able (take your time, or schedule posts, and there's no real obligation to finish).

Q: What if I don't finish my work in time? A: We will accept late entries until November 22nd, which is 3 weeks after bylerween ends. However, after the event ends on Nov 1st, we will not be updating the blog as frequently.

Q: Can our fanwork feature other non-Byler ships or other characters?/Can we post genfic? A: Yes, and please do! If you feature other ships, the work must be Byler-centric. If you're writing genfic, it does not need to be Byler-centric, but Byler must be in there somehow!

Q: Some of your trigger tags seem like they might be NSFW. Does this mean you'll accept NSFW fanworks? A: No. We will not be sharing any sexually explicit fanworks to this blog. It is not lost on us that horror themes are often intertwined with sensuality, and that sometimes sexual themes are subjectively interpreted. In such cases where the sexual nature of a fanwork is ambiguous, we (the Bylerween mods) will use our discretion to determine whether or not the work will be featured. If you want to be extra safe, you can send us a DM (if you prefer not to DM this blog, you can message either Ayla @howtobecomeadragon or Jo @wheelersboy privately) with specific details ahead of time. TL;DR no porn.

Maybe in general, but that’s not the way the Byler fandom sees it. We’re fighting for endgame status, not just to have “fun with character dynamics.” So if you’re gonna enter the Byler tag, it’s important to respect how Bylers operate. You can’t enter a random and demand people conform to how you prefer shipping to be.

Shipping Byler IS about it going canon.

that. is fundamentally not how tags work. or how fandom works. entering a ship tag the only obligation you have is to not bash the ship or be an asshole to others. Meta for fandom is usually encouraged? Just because I doubt the show's ability to end/start romo relationships (as it has struggled in the past) doesn't mean I am shipping something incorrectly.

Other people are very welcome to dictate their shipping if they think it'll be canon and nothing else, but that doesn't seem fun to me. If the ship goes canon I hope it's done well and doesn't feel stilted because the show has a hard time with beginning/ending romantic relationships. If they pull it off for this one, I'll be very happy. Surprised, but happy. 2) you must be baiting because that is exactly what you're doing? telling me to ship something how you think it should be? acting as though you speak for the whole fandom? you're just trying to piss people off.

Shipping it for you is about it being canon. that's not what shipping it is about for me. we are allowed to have different opinions.

Hi, you’re not obligated to respond to this (and honestly, I'd prefer if it wasn't shared under the Byler tag, as I'd like my thoughts not to influence others). I just wanted to share because I feel safe and comfortable in this space you've created.

I was a casual viewer who noticed the potential for Byler endgame after Season 4, Volume 1. I believed the Duffers would pursue this path, as it not only seems best for Will but also for El and Mike, who appear incompatible. A relationship needs shared interests or at least good communication to thrive, and I can't see a couple staying together solely for physical reasons.

My concern is that while the show contains ample evidence suggesting Byler endgame, many significant leakers are claiming that Mileven is doing fine, that they haven't broken up, and that they have many scenes together. This makes me anxious because, while I trust the narrative clues in the show, I find it hard to fully trust the Duffers' intentions. It’s not about queerbaiting; I just worry they might have deliberately set things up to keep fans speculating. Maybe I'm overthinking, but it troubles me that none of the reliable leakers from two years ago seem to suggest Byler has a real chance.

i should make clear that whenever i tag something as "byler" it's because it is byler related. whenever i tag something as "byler tumblr" it can not be byler related but something i think byler tumblr would enjoy seeing. the "byler" and "byler tumblr" tags can coexist in a same post but they are not obligated to.

The only cure for boredom for the family event I can offer is thinking about byler moping about having to go on a family weekend themselves where one tags along, and having to find times and places to sneak away from everyone and get lost in each other. or if one of them has to go on the trip and they're separated and pent up, only getting off to the thought of each other til they can let it out when they reunite. Dorks 😋🫶

Goddddddd yes. They so would, those clingy guys. The way they just need each other all the time. Suffering through some obligation but trying to behave, not run off too early. Not be too obnoxious and obvious that the only attention worth giving is to each other. Mike's low tolerance for boredom and annoyance and Will's comfort from Mike's general presense, but they give each other balance. Constantly turning back from some inane conversation with some relative to find the other already staring back, or separated and when they scan the room to find the other and they're also doing the same thing. Sappy. Little stolen touches until they find themselves with a moment alone and the desperatation just spills over. Years together and theyre still so obsessed with each other. How unbearable it is if they're staying at someone else's house, still wanting each other all the time of course but oh god we can't make this weird, we're guests here. And then it's tenfold worse if they can't go together. Alone in some hotel room at the end of the day, maybe caving to how needy they are and making a heated phone call just to hear the other's voice. Yeahhhh ❤️

i think i am about to create a 'st salt' tag on my main.

i truly wonder how people will feel once season5 rolls and then it gets revealed that byler won't be receiving that much of a screentime either. and i know this has been talked by other users and several posts have been made about it, but it's a genuine wonder. because especially people who defend this kind of treatment by saying it is a necessity for byler to happen in the finale with minimum screentime in order to keep the audience from leaving or boycotting the show... or because byler is the Main Ship that will happen in the finale episode only for the obligation. In my opinion, many people actually want Byler to have more screentime and wish it would receive more screentime and moments like the other ships but are kinda coping with the fact that it is not gonna happen by saying It Makes Sense That The Things are Like This. its insane for the supposed main couple to also have the least screentime out of all the couples. and crazy to think that the writers didnt even break up mlvn even in s4 lmao.

see this is why i hesitate to say i don't like some of the writing. because i've said like half of these. i'm pretty realistic about my s5 expectations for byler and for will and mike as characters these days but i also like a lot of the writing decisions so i don't know what to say here lmao. i get that i can sound negative but it's only because i understand and even agree with a lot of the critiques but most of the time i'm still like but i still enjoy it even if i would have liked for it to happen differently. which you just described as coping so 🤕 peace and love ig

That was how long he had left to collect himself, to keep his dread at bay. He’d been through it all before, from the day he turned twelve it was more of a chore rather than an obligation, it was a cultural routine throughout New America – wake up early, bathe and scrub yourself until you’re as red as a newborn baby, wear your best clothes and buff out the creases, eat a sparse breakfast and hold it down as you march to town centre, stay sharp, don’t speak, wait, grieve.

Will had only turned sixteen three days prior to the day of the Lottery, every year was the same as the last – a transient alarm would choke him for each hour leading up to the day of reckoning, he’d lock his knuckles until they paled and prayed that his name wouldn’t be chosen from the drum. The morning air was bitter, it greeted him as he shook off his nightmares, he always had bad dreams the night before.

do you ever think about the fact that throughout the entirety of stranger things we’ve always seen mike practically shout his love for will from the rooftops by throwing his everything into believing, protecting, and helping will no matter the stakes, and how a majority of byler moments are initiated by him, and how will has always loved him back quietly despite being the one canonically confirmed to be in love, and how will is almost always on the viewer’s right in iconic byler moments but in season four we find him on the left in what used to be mike’s spot because their “roles” have switched AND when we’re taken out of the viewer’s pov and put in jonathan’s pov we see jonathan Come To A Realization here because while mike has always made it clear how special will is to him and how different their relationship is, will has always managed to keep the true depth of his feelings a little closer to his chest and it’s only when he publicly takes up that support role that mike has played for him previously that the audience is purposely made to realize, too, how romantic it truly is, because coming from mike everyone might have thought it was his usual overzealous theatrics but when the same tenderness and earnest love comes from will they realize oh. this is... this is actually something more. this is how they are this is mike and will like nothing has changed and no time has passed but it’s now that we realize just what it is, and now that will is starting to slowly but surely come out from this curtain he’s hid behind his whole life and voice that yes he loves mike of course he does he’s always loved him and loves him in precisely the way that mike expresses he needs to be loved there is simply NO conceivable way that they can come out of this hellish slow burn miscommunication trope not in full acknowledgement and eager acceptance of this love they have for each other and have always had and always will !!!!!!!!
