Law's presence during Marineford makes so much more sense if you assume a few things about Law:
He loks really cool and chill (pre-Time Skip) but is actually a socially awkward mess
He can be just a LITTLE obsessive (see everything post-Time Skip).
He has a massive crush on Zoro
Like, here he is, rescuing this idiot rival captain and Zoro-ya isn't even there to see it!
Then, after he basically uses magic to keep the kid alive, he doesnt even know where Law can go to FIND Zoro-ya! Dont just sit there crying about your lost nakama, Mugiwara-ya! Law finally figured out the perfect say to ask out Z- Grr.... It doesnt matter! Gah, so useless!
Screw this, Law isn't waiting for Mugiwara-ya's full recovery, he didn't even use drugs just so he could get a straight forward answer on where to find Zoro-ya and all the kid does is cry because his dead brother or something. You know what?
Heart pirates, out!

Do you ever wonder if deep down, in Luffy's heart, he doesn't let himself worry about Zoro because he genuinely can't? Because the alternative is simply too horrifying to contemplate for even a second?
Think about how awful it was for Luffy when he lost someone very dear to him at Marineford. This person had even promised — promised! — Luffy that he would never die. That he would never leave him alone. Yet this person who was supposed to be Luffy's constant was ripped away from him, and Luffy was powerless to stop it.
"Devastated" doesn't even come close to describing the abject despair Luffy felt at that moment. He completely shut down and went catatonic.

Let's twist it around for once and make Zoro the one who gets his gay awakening by meeting Sanji: 1950s america Zoro x Sanji AU where heavily repressed Zoro lives in the suburbs in a marriage of convenience with his best friend Nami- they're both content with this situation and they both think this is the closest thing to love and attraction they can feel for someone of the opposite gender so it makes sense.
But then some new neighbours move into the house right next to theirs-a brother and sister (how odd to live together- but then again they're foreigners, so maybe that's why?) and Nami drags Zoro to the window to watch a lithe, beautiful, blonde man and his elegant blue-haired sister (who's wearing pants- the neighbourhood gossips will have a field day) move their boxes into their new house.
Zoro is transfixed by the man's fluid movements and rippling thigh muscles as he leverages his legs to haul heavy things around. His mouth dries as he unbuttons his shirt and now he can see his sweaty tanktop clinging to his form and how his high-waisted pants accentuate his slim waist. He must do some kind of sport or calesthenics- Zoro has always been a great sports and sportsman admirer- that's why he pays such close attention to the male form. He should ask him what it is, maybe he could join- Nami clears her throat and snaps him out of his thoughts, and he notices a faint flush on her cheeks and how her eyes flit back to the blue-haired woman's form as she reveals what the very little information that' been going around concerning the new owners of the block's most luxurious house.
Sanji and Vivi are bisexual cousins from France/France-occupied Maghreb but claim they are siblings to help smooth over their odd living situation. They moved to the states as young adults looking for emancipation and freedom, and have been enjoying, partying and making lots of friends in queer spaces here, but now that they're in the latter part of their 20s want to have a proper house (with a pool) to be able to host their friends and relax a bit more.
The next day Nami makes a welcome dish (totally not an excuse to see that gorgeous woman again) and drags him along to introduce themselves and welcome the 'siblings' to the neighbourhood. Once again Zoro feels his attention completely captured by the blonde man's...aura- he's never met a man like this before, he has a way of swaying his hips as he walks, an elegance in the way he holds his cigarillo, and his suit is more colorful (maroon) , and better tailoured than any business man's. His laugh makes Zoro's belly feel funny- but it also makes him a bit angry for some reason. He can feel something tight and confused in his chest and Nami ends up apologising for his rude behaviour once he and the man accidentally start not-so-politely bickering. (Zoro's compliment of the maroon suit comes off as a sarcastic insult that Sanji doesn't let slide, and there's just something about him that gets on his nerves).
Vivi invites them to their housewarming party the next weekend.
During the week, Zoro gets the opportunity to exchange a few more words and banter with the blonde- Sanji, he'd learned, while he gardens after work and works on his car. Sanji calls him a mosshead (he has some trimmings stuck in his hair), and he makes fun of the giant Duck-shaped topiary the blonde is trimming.
Nami discloses all the gossip she gathered to Zoro, and it sounds like most of their neighbourhood will be staying clear of this rather..queer pair.
He and Nami attend the party anyways, too curious and eager to interact with them again
The party is full of very colourful, artsy, cool people- many of whom Zoro feels he wouldn't know what pronouns to use for- but the booze is good, and the music is good, and he'd promised Nami he'd be on his best behaviour. He sulks in a corner and at first watches her talk excitedly with some oddly dressed women, some with extremely short hair, but his attention gets snagged by Sanji dancing with his friends by the pool. The reflected light shines on his body and make him glow
a drag queen called Iva (close friend of Sanji's) sits down next to him and teases him and tells him to go for it but Zoro is so deeply repressed and unfamiliar with even the concept of queerness that he doesn't even catch what Iva is hinting at.
It's only later, when he's lost and looking for the bathroom, when he opens a wrong door and stumbles on Sanji kissing another man, that he finally understands that this is a thing. He'd only vaguely heard about people liking the same gender, but it's not something he'd ever thought about at all. He's a confused, swirling mess of emotions, red in the face with embarrassment and anger (and jealousy) as he storms away, telling Nami they need to leave.
additional thoughts:
Sanji was kissing Pedro because he needed to get it out of his system after thirsting over his 'straight and married' hot neighbour all week- why did the mosshead have to work in such a tight white t shirt in his yard
Lots of scenes with Iva where Sanji bemoans his curse of falling for straight married men
Lots of misunderstandings between Sanji and Zoro- definitely lots of bickering when they keep getting forced to hang out because of the girls
Sanjis annoyance about Zoro stems from the impression that Zoro isn't treating Nami 'right', like a lady, and of the love and devotion he feels she should have from her husband- also he'd promised he wouldn't fall for another straight man so he keeps trying to tell himself he's just angry on behalf of Vivi who he can tell is head over heels for the ginger
Zoro is annoyed at Sanji for fawning over women and being prissy and cocky when he knows that he saw him kiss a man so what is up with him (he's actually just really jealous and angry and repressed and doesn't know bisexuality is a thing yet)
There should be a pool scene where Zoro gets insanely distracted and confused and turned on by Sanji in a speedo
Jobs: for Zoro- maybe car dealership owner/mechanic, Sanji is definitely something creative- maybe a fashion designer, a photographer, stylist, or straight up the classic restaurant head chef. Nami is a housewife but she would definitely have something on the side going on. Vivi could be a magazine editor or a big shot writer? a diplomat?
obligatory scene where they both drink too much and reveal things- Zoro reveals he and Nami have never slept together or done more than kiss at their wedding and Sanji is so confused but also so hot for his incredibly built neighbour he's been doing his best to keep his hands off of, so he kind of flirts and asks if he'd like to know what a real kiss is like
Zoro is stunned into silence but his body leans forward despite himself and Sanji kisses him silly
They pretend it never happened and both think the other forgot
Zoro breaks one day and admits all the naughty thoughts he's been having about his neighbour to Nami- she cry laughs and says she's been having the same about Vivi (except they already figured their shit out) and she was waiting for the right time to tell him but this makes it all so much easier if it's the same for Zoro
Zoro understands that he's super duper gay for Sanji and likes him romantically so he immediately runs up to his house to tell him how he feels
Zoro and Nami both live happily ever after as each other's beards, each with their own bisexual foreigner to call their own.

I was just reminded of a manga called There's No Way I'm The Protagonist (it's quite fun; I recommend it) and then of course I thought to myself what it would be like if it was about Zoro and Sanji.
Some college students think that Nami and Zoro are dating. They're rumored to be childhood friends, and they're clearly very close. Zoro is this cool and mysterious man with scars who rarely talks to anyone, and Nami is a sweet woman and a top of her class student. Plus, they're both extremely attractive. It's almost like they came out of a romance novel. And Sanji loves romance novels. He loves watching people in love, and he often makes up various scenarios in his head with lots of tender moments.
One day, Sanji is forced to move out of his flat and when he goes to greet the neighbours in his new place, he finds out he lives right next to Zoro. At first, he's excited about it, but then he learns what that marimo is really like. He's a rude, sword-obsessed musclehead. And when he sees a bunch of empty take out boxes, he snaps, because how dare he do that to his body? He should take better care of himself! He decides to share the meals he cooks with Zoro and marimo agrees because it's free and delicious food. Eventually, they end up spending a lot of time with each other, and they rather quickly become friends.
After a few weeks, Sanji finally gets to properly meet Nami... who's also not what she seems. She can be childish and quick to anger, and she's money-obsessed. Despite that, Sanji still finds her charming. Both she and Zoro may have their own flaws, but they're good people. They may bicker a lot, but they suit each other, Sanji thinks to himself as he observes their interactions. So his shipping continues. He really roots for them because he wants his friends to be happy.
Imagine his surprise when, one day, Zoro confesses his feelings for him. And in his shock, he agrees to date him.

there are two wolves inside of me.
one wolf absolutely devours the zolu dynamic of "oblivious idiot and angsty pining idiot". like, a zoro who is constantly internally beating himself up because what the fuck he's gone and fucked it all up how could he fall in love with luffy he's practically betraying him luffy needs a first mate not a lover and it's not like luffy would ever even love him back he just has to suffer this in silence. and a luffy who doesn't even realise zoros internal crisis and is becoming more and more touchy and seeking out zoro more because he just. wants zoro. because being around zoro feels more right than anything. but doesn't stop to figure out what that feeling actually means.
the other wolf just goes fucking nuts for the zolu dynamic of "are those two together or what?" "no one knows they're just like that". they don't know when they started actually being "together", they didn't even really decide, it's always been this way, since day 1 they knew they would follow each other to the ends of the earth and beyond. they don't talk about it, they don't need to talk about it, because they just know, they know each other so well and understand each other as if they're literally part of the same brain. their relationship transcends that of "boyfriends" or "dating", they're simply luffy and zoro. it's always been a mutual understanding, luffy is zoros and zoro is luffys and they belong to no one else and. and. it just feels so natural and right and instinctual and being together is as easy as breathing. even the rest of the crew don't know what exactly they are, but they never question it because it just makes sense.

the thought of zoro teaching luffy swordsmanship after luffy "showed" his sword skills at the start of wano...
luffy, monkeying (heh) with the sword at first, eventually annoys zoro to guide his hands from behind with a tight grip— all while zoro mutters his instructions (and frustrations) close to one of luffy's ear.
zoro stops after a few sword thrusts, because it is only then that he realized the position he got themselves in. and luffy turning his head to the blushing mess behind him,
"Zorooo, why'd we stop? it was only getting fun!"

Do you think Koshiro and Mihawk will get along, or is it gonna be like Kung Fu Panda 3, and they're going to have passive aggressive squabbles behind Zoro's back about whose the daddiest dad of them all, and who'll have the honor of giving away Zoro at his and Luffy's future wedding. (Zoro and Luffy have no plans to be married anytime soon, but that doesn't stop them from fighting over it, as they both know it's inevitable)

One Piece Modern Gym AU wips
(Part 3)
Sanji actually tried to tell Nami about Zoro’s behavior and that he went into the girls' changing room with Vivi and Koala. But she just laughed at him.
“Did one of them tell him to set them down or to leave the room?”
“No…not that I noticed…” Sanji said, slightly pounding.
“Then he didn't do anything to violate their personal space. Believe me, if Vivi wouldn't want him to be there, she’d kick him out in no time.”
Sanji sighed and nodded, admitting his defeat and went back to the bar. He sat there for quiet some time until two of the girls came over to order a strawberry shake from him.
“Right away my lovely ladies.”
They smiled at him and then turned to each other to continue their conversation.
“It’s so lovely to see her again after such a long time,” the blonde one said.
“Yes, but to be honest, she didn't have to go through all of this just to get that body,” the brunette replied. “It’s achievable with training and a bit help of steroids or something like that.”
“True, true. You know I can't imagine getting my breasts chopped off just to look a bit more buff.”
Now, Sanji's curiosity was piqued. He leaned a little closer to the girls to hear better, and they went on about a woman (apparently) who used to come to this Gym and left almost three years ago, never coming back once, and now suddenly was back again. Sanji couldn't remember someone new besides Zoro. But those two were clearly talking about a girl. Maybe she went to the Gym when Sanji wasn't there. And what was all that talk about getting her breasts removed? He couldn't quite follow that part of the conversation.
“Two strawberry shakes, for two beautiful girls,” Sanji put the drinks in front of them smiling.
“Thanks, Sanji! That's what I need right now,” the blonde smiled back and the brunette nodded along.
“I couldn’t help but follow your conversation a bit.,” Sanji admitted. “Who are you talking about, if I may ask?”
The girls looked at each other, then at Sanji and the blond sighed almost inaudibly.
“Just an old friend of ours,” she said, but the way she pronounced the word friend told Sanji a lot about that apparent friendship. “You actually know her. But we promised not to tell her name to anyone who doesn't know her three years ago.”
“And you keep that promise?” He was actually surprised by that - judging by how she just told him between the lines that she couldn't stand that girl.
“We unfortunately have to,” the brunette chimed in. “Otherwise we aren't allowed here anymore and this is the best Gym for women in this town.”
That was interesting! Who of the girls was so close to Nami that she threatened others to ban them from the Gym for literally just telling a name? And who matched the vague description he had from listening in on the conversation. He had to find out!
