Name: Yume Kobushi (later Kobushino as they combine her and her hubby’s surnames)

Nicknames: Sleepyhead, night-owl, Ms. Gloom (Yaguro, teasingly) 

Age: 35 (witches generally stay looking youthful until they hit 100, that’s when they start aging physically)

Family: Late great grandmother Anei, husband Yaguro/Asahi, kids Kousai & Chiyuri

Friends: Murasaki family, especially the family mother Rikka, Akiko Chiba and her family, farmers from a nearby village

A young witch/mother who is studying the old secrets of her grandmother’s guild

Abilities:

Shadow abilities: She can manipulate shadows to camouflage things, snatch things through them or create illusions. She can also create solid objects such as weapons from shadows for a short period of time.

Dream abilities: She can enter into other people’s dreams and manipulate them, or put people to sleep. She can also project people’s dreams to other people, even if they are awake.

Charm spell: A powerful old ability she found from her great great grandmother’s notes that allows her to make almost anyone do what she wants/make it easier to coax them. She mainly uses this to try and keep Yaguro calm if he gets too aggressive due to his corruption. 

Some close combat: She knows how to use a crossbow/bow and arrow, and typically creates them from shadows to use. She can also use hidden knives if necessary. 

Intelligence/knowledge: She knows a lot about older spells and magic that she’s researched from her ancestors’ books and notes, and can easily recognize even obscure curses and seals as a result, and can generally figure out quickly how to combat those.

Personality:

She’s quite temperamental and compassionate, wanting to do things well and also getting frustrated if things aren’t working like she’d hoped. Yume sometimes questions her own abilities due to the fact she never had “official” witch training. She also has the tendency to get a bit flustered around people she finds attractive. (regardless of gender) 

Yume has always been the kind of person to want to aid others with her abilities somehow, but does have a slight inner fear that maybe ultimately she is a bad person, just because of her heritage and powers. This mainly stems from the fact her father hated his witch heritage and anything to do with them/witches generally having kind of a troublesome reputation. She does occasionally have the tendency to act petty and pull small revenge tricks against people who act rude to her. 

She tends to be the type to not make a big deal of her good deeds, and often helps people secretly, because she fears they’d not accept her help upon seeing she’s a witch. 

Basically, she’s someone who wants to help others to prove her heritage doesn’t define her, but she often self-doubts herself because of her family’s attitude towards her kind, and she does have a side to her that enjoys taunting people and messing with those she dislikes. She also has self-doubts over her own capabilities, leading to her getting frustrated easily because of her temper.

She’s generally a good mother, but does occasionally clash with her son especially, given they’re both very emotional people and at times struggle to express themselves properly.

Generational Skip

Sometimes, witch powers in this world skip a generation or two, often resulting in a daughter (sometimes sons, but this is rare) being born with no one realizing at first they can use magic. Typically these kids either repress their powers, or get shunned by their family, resulting in them running away from home. In some rare cases the parents can be accepting of it too, but it is not common reaction. Yume kept her powers a secret, knowing her father really hated anything to do with witches.

BG story in a Nutshell:

Yume was born to a rich family, inheriting witch-powers from his father’s side. His father hated anything to do with witches however, so she had to practice her abilities in secret, with the help of the staff of the house who were more positive about anything to do with magic in general.

Her parents end up dying when she’s 18 in a botched robbery, leaving her the only heir of the house; she lets the employees and her family staff handle the business for the most part, as she’s still mourning and truthfully only really interested in practicing her magic; she never cared about the family business really.

She eventually finds old scriptures about her late great grandmother’s old witch guild, and decides to set out to the world to try and find it in hopes of learning more of her family history and her own abilities.

The staff do resist her leaving, but she points out she never had any interest for the Kobushi family business, and potentially saving the world is more important. 

During her trips she ends up meeting Yaguro, who helps save her from some bandits, and decides to tag along with her sensing that while she’s strong, she has little experience in needing to defend herself.

Initially the pair don’t really get along due to how their somewhat opposing personalities naturally clash, but overtime they start to balance each other out, getting closer and eventually falling in love. 

Extra Facts

She’s around 167 cm tall

Yume is pan, and while she only has romantic feelings towards Yaguro, Yume does have the habit of developing innocent fan-crushes on other women especially & she also gets flustered around people she finds attractive. Such as Kouka Murasaki, the head of the Kureshima bathhouse she and Yaguro visit.

This does happen around Yaguro as well, but since she’s more used to his presence, it’s usually kind of a “Oh right this guy I’m with and who likes me back is hot too shit I forgot” thing.

Her family also ran a large bath-house and before she left home, she officially assigned to management to her family butler who’d always been heavily invested in the business unofficially and enjoyed working there alongside serving the family. (he was happy about it, though also worried for her)

Yume’s Grandmother’s spirit uses the golden hair comb she wears as a medium to communicate with her as it used to belong to her.

Her favorite trick to get back at rude assholes is to make them hallucinate scary things when drunk, or make them suffer from nightmares for days.

Her favorite snack is spicy grilled tofu with udon noodles and green beans on the side.

Yume often dozes off against Yaguro’s back fluff, which he just lets her rest there for a while typically, before gently placing her to the bed. 

The family lives in the old Witch Guild that her grandmother used to teach young witches in. Since it is hidden in the spirit world, you need special Keys to access it.

She mostly wears shades of pink and red as her make-up

She’s ultimately a fairly young mother, so while pregnant/the first months with the babies she had help from Rikka, Kouka Murasaki’s mother, as well as Erena, the head Priestess of a water temple.

I really like finding little things about the way I play the game and turning them into character traits and backstory fodder for my OCs.

Like I impulsively harvest every single alchemy ingredient I come across when I'm traveling in the game, which turned into Aneis' mother being an apothecary, and living in Valenwood, she'd often lament to her daughter about all the beneficial plants around them that she could never use. So as soon as Aneis left Valenwood and the confines of the Green Pact, she'd pick every plant she saw that she knew had alchemical properties, because it made her think of her late mother.
