Domesticity

Summary: a slice of life moment of a very anxious Gale, and a very relaxed reader!

Pairing: gale x drow!tav (gn i thiiiiiiiink?)

warnings: mention of alcohol, suggestive content but no smut

a/n: posting this in the airport I have no shame!!!! this is based on my current playthrough with my drow paladin. so there are some references to drow and tav finding a found family within Minthara, but it's not really a fleshed out oc!

Cooking doesn’t come quite as naturally to you as you’d hoped. It’s a complex balance of flavor—spice and savory and salty and sweet—that challenges the palate you’ve grown accustomed to in Menzobarrenzen and your time in exile. Still, you move slowly, carefully, over the faded recipe card, make precise cuts to the carrots in front of you.

There’s a movement in the counter, and your wine glass is moved closer to you. “One for the pot, one for the cook. Or so the saying goes.” Tara hums, curling up on the edge of the counter. You can’t imagine Gale would say anything, so you don’t bother asking her to move away from the cooking.

“If I want to have any hope of this turning out, I’m going to need to slow down.”

She tuts in response, kicking her legs out long and rolling onto her back. 

“Why is this so hard?”

“What, cooking?”

“Yes!” You toss the carrots into the steaming pot, and move to toss in the onions and garlic nearby. “He makes everything look so effortless.”

“Funny enough, I seem to recall him saying something similar when he attempted to wield your greatsword.” She moves off the counter with ease, “perhaps that’s what makes the two of you work so well.”

You’re so wrapped up in your cooking that you don’t head the door open, and don’t sense the heavy weight moving across the wooden floor until his hands are on you, wrapping around your waist. You’re carefully moving the dish onto two plates, and nearly drop the spoon in surprise. “You should be grateful this isn’t a dagger,” you mumble against his neck as places his chin on your shoulder. 

“Perhaps. Or perhaps I’ve taken a calculated guess that you wouldn’t be wielding a weapon in our kitchen at this hour.”

“Then you don’t know me at all.”

“On the contrary, but perhaps we could get reacquainted.” He moves to pepper soft kisses along your jawline, but pauses at the realization of what’s in front of him. “Is that…”

“Your mother’s shepards pie?” You’re blushing now when he turns to you. “I wanted to surprise you, you’ve been so busy with grading.”

“Well, color me surprised.” He moves to grab both plates and begins setting your table. “Sit down, let me get your glass.”

“Only if you have one too.”

He smiles and grabs another glass, along with the bottle before settling in front of you. You try to contain your excitement when he moves to take his first bite, trying to nonchalantly watch him out of the corner of your eye. His eyes light up, and his gaze rockets to yours. “How did you get this? It’s perfect.”

“It’s not a far walk to your mothers,” you pause to take a sip of your wine, a delightful red decidedly nicer than the bottle you had been sipping from earlier. Sneaky. “I’ve been going by on my slower days for tea.”

“You’ve been spending time at my mother’s?” It’s not an accusatory question, on the contrary, his eyes glow with warmth at the thought.

“She’s sweet, and it’s nice to spend time with family, and I told her I wanted to surprise you.”

He’s quiet at first, simply smiling at his plate and eating. After a moment, he speaks up. “Family, yes?”

Your cheeks burn with color at your minor slip. “I mean, in a sense-“

“And in the literal skin enough.” He reaches across the table to gently graze the top of your hand, hesitating on the knuckle above your ring finger.

Dinner passes in relative simplicity afterwards, casual conversation about his classes, your work at the temple. 

“While on the topic of families, I’d be remiss if I didn’t tell you who I saw today.” 

Your eyebrow quirks up in response, “Oh?”

“Your sister is in town.”

“Minthara?” Your brows furrow, “I didn’t know she was headed this way, are there cultists in Waterdeep?”

“Hardly, she’s heading back to Baldur’s Gate, something to do with Nine Fingers. I told her to tell you more tomorrow. She’s found company for the evening.”

“Sounds like Minty,” you smile at the thought of your pseudo-sister. “I’m happy to see her tomorrow, but I’m not heading to Baldur’s Gate with her.”

He blinks in surprise, “You’re not?”

“Do you want me to go?”

“I just assumed you’d be interested. It’s been quite a moment since you’ve done a daring rescue, some savvy swashbuckling.”

You snort at the word choice, “Swashbuckling is more Astarion’s style. Besides, I’m busy with my work here, and then we’d be apart. You can’t leave in the middle of the semester.”

“You bring up a valid roadblock, my love.” He smiles at the end of his thought, but there’s an uncertainty in his eyes that doesn’t miss you.

You’re on your back, clad in nothing but one of Gale’s impossible comfortable tunics. He’s beside you of course, reclining beside you on the plush blanket laid out on the terrace of his study. His hands twirl above you, and lights dance overhead. You’re mesmerized by him, by even the smallest of spells that hardly take any effort. You burrow deeper into his side, transfixed by the colors moving overhead. 

He moves after a moment, propping himself on his elbow. “Can I confess something to you?”

“Of course,” you move to cradle his cheek in your hand, rolling on to your side to face him. “What is it?”

“I’ve been feeling… a flavor of insecurity as of late. At first, I couldn’t believe my good graces, to not only survive our encounter with the brain, but to bring you home to Waterdeep, to see you in my tower. It’s still surreal. A student, however, noticed you in the market recently, and asked what it was like to live with a great warrior like you, and I realized I’d neglected that. You are a great warrior, you’re an excellent paladin, I’ve watched you slay more enemies and heal me more times than I can count. And then I saw Minthara, all disheveled, hair messy, but happy. I’m worried I’m keeping you trapped in this tower, not unlike how I felt when I encountered my orb. You know you’re always free to go, frolick the sword coast and slay enemies the whole way down, correct?”

The honesty of his confession catches you by surprise for a moment. You haven’t the words to reassure him, you’re not sure you could string them together if you tried. Instead you kiss him, leaning forward and cupping his cheek. He leans in hungrily, interpreting your gesture as your answer. His lips are soft against yours, the taste of wine making you drunk with anticipation as you pull back.

“When I became a paladin, it was because I wanted my people, Seldarine, Lolth sworn, just drow in general to be respected by surface dwellers. I do too. My oath to bring balance and light, not to slaughter every prejudiced person on the sword coast. I can fulfill my oath with the work I do here, at the temple in Waterdeep, with you, and frankly, you’re selling yourself short as a wizard, you’re quite the catch,” his hand slides down your back and you feel yourself being tugged closer, “Where Minthara, gods bless her, needs blood and sex to satisfy her, I can get by with a good wine and a dinner with you.”

He kissed you again, quickly, and pulls his hand away to smooth your cheek, “Well, perhaps we don’t need to count out sex as satisfaction just yet,” his hand rubs slow circles along your back as he pulls you in closer, “after all, I am quite the accomplished wizard.”

(Man, I'm on a roll this month with developing and talking about my OCs, lol)

Since I’m a fan of Life is Strange: True Colors, I was thinking about what emotional auras my OCs would be most associated with. Soooo, here we go!

Content warning: post contains themes and discussions of paranoia, the feeling of being watched, depression, feelings of worthlessness, self-hatred, PTSD, and survivors guilt.

Etain Amell: Fear

Fear has been a part of Etain for her entire life. Fear has become as much as a powerful part of identity as her desire to serve and protect the helpless. She’s afraid of the templars arresting her, afraid of statues that stand too still and watch her from a far. She’s afraid how her words might be misinterpreted, or used against her by those who wish her harm. She’s afraid of her companions of one day betraying her, afraid of Alistair’s growing affections and her own feelings for him. She’s afraid of others becoming afraid of her. She’s afraid of becoming the monster that the templars always expected her to be.

Tara Hawke: Sadness

After the loss of her father, her home, and her brother, Tara became very depressed, only getting worse after losing Bethany to the Wardens and the murder of her mother. She feels she failed to keep her promise to her father that she keep the family safe. She grows to hate the title the Champion of Kirkwall, because in her eyes, she doesn’t deserve the title. The qunari still attacked the city despite her effort to appease them, she couldn’t stop the templars and mages from fighting, and she couldn’t keep her little found family together after everything was over. Everything she’s done just felt completely pointless, and she feels like she accomplished nothing. While her face looks angry and her voice sounds bitter, deep down she’s simply tired and sad.

Kallen Lavellan: Sadness/Joy

After the expedition that killed her clanmates, Kallen developed severe PTSD and survivor’s guilt. She blamed herself for their deaths, wishing she never touched the artifact that led to the Keeper’s First getting possessed by a rage demon and slaughtering her clan. She knew that several of her clanmates blamed their deaths on her as well, feeling hated and isolated by everyone around her, reenforcing her self-hatred. With the support of her parents and the Keeper, the wounds of her heart healed over time.

But then the blast at the Conclave happened, and found herself once again the only survivor of a terrible accident. Not only did it reopen the scars of her past, but she it gave her new scars on top of them. In the beginning, she is visibly depressed, never talking to anyone, and locking herself away in her hut. She initially just blindly went along with what her advisors asked of her, feeling numb and indifferent to everything that happened around her.

And yet, despite all these things, she becomes so radiant and vibrant when she’s filled with joy. When she feels the support and love of her friends and companions, reminded of her culture and heritage, or when she’s passionately engaged with the things that she loves, she is beaming with joy and light. Her smile is the most beautiful sight the world, and her laughter infects everyone around her. While she has many wounds that haven’t properly healed and bad days that bring her down, she still manages to bring strength to those around her with her love and joy for life.

Alaia Shepard: Anger

They say there are five stages of grief. Since the attack of Mindoir, Alaia has been stuck in the anger stage for almost her whole life. While survivor’s guilt made Kallen depressed, Alaia’s guilt filled her with anger, even rage. It was much stronger in her teens and early twenties, where she would often get into fights and easily became irritated or angry when someone said the wrong thing. Her training helped control her emotions somewhat, but she still has a tendency to snap at those who try to get her to talk about Mindoir or Akuze.

Her anger and frustration deepen when she begins hunting Saren and stopping the incoming Reaper invasion. She’s angry about Council refusing to believe the threat of the Reapers, angry about being forced to work with Cerberus, the organization responsible for what happened on Akuze. She becomes especially angry and hurt after reuniting with her friend Ashley, only for her to accuse Alaia for betraying the Alliance and the galaxy by allying with Cerberus. By the time ME3 begins, Alaia’s feels exhausted by both the stress of the Reaper Invasion, and the anger inside her that just won’t stop burning.

Chloe Ryder: Joy

Chloe always seen shining with happiness and energy, cracking jokes and witty comebacks, and ready to go and see what her next adventure has in store for her. While she’s capable of being serious and has moments of doubt, she always bounces back and ready to face the world once again. Yes, she despaired about her mother’s “death”, felt angry about her father’s lies and bad decisions, and feared for Scott’s life and the fate of those who came to the Andromeda galaxy. Yet she still manages to stay strong and bright, smiling the whole time.

Saga Peg’asi: Sadness

Saga’s life was always spent alone, the only ones who showed any interest in her being Nerissa and Vexx. She felt nothing more like a pretty little doll, locked in a glass container to never be touched or held. Despite insisting that she was used to it now, she wished for a family filled with love and support, or to be free and live a life of adventure.  She was truly happy when Nerissa and Vexx spent time with her, for she finally felt like she was alive and loved.

Even when Saga lost her memory, she couldn’t help but feel this strange sadness inside of her, like it was carefully written into her heart. She would suddenly feel a loneliness so intense, that she would start to cry and couldn’t understand why. After regaining her memory, she was consumed with grief over the loss of her family, especially Nerissa, and Vexx’s betrayal. Even if the rest of her family never paid attention to her, she never wished for them to get hurt. Nerissa was the most important person in her life, and now she was gone forever, unable to help Saga during this most difficult time.

June’s cold and hurtful words after finding out she was a Peg’asi made her feel worse. While she understood his hatred for her family, she saw him as her knight in shining armour, and her initial time spent with him made her feel like she was in a fairy tale. The realization that he wouldn’t have cared if she had died along with her family hurt her deeply.

Dana De Sardet: Anger/Fear

It doesn’t start off this way, when she arrived on Tír Fradí. While still grieving over the loss of her mother, Dana was filled with curiosity, worry, and awe by her new responsibilities and the island’s beauty. She was given such a daunting task in being named legate of the Congregation, and finding the cure for the Malichor, and she worried if she would live up to the task. Yet she was filled with wonder over how colourful and clean the island was, and felt a renewed vigor whenever she set out into the wilds.

But then she’s told the truth about her origins: being the child of a native islander and a sea-born, taken by the Prince D’Orsay for his own political gain. Immediately afterwards, she discovers that her dear cousin is dying from the Malichor, just like her mother. The sudden news shatters her, and a darkness in her heart begins to grow. Her fear over losing Constantin turns her quest for a cure into an obsession, lying awake at night wondering where she should go and what she should try next. All that matters right now is saving Constantin, not matter the cost. She so scared of losing him, just like how she lost her mother.

She is angry about the lies that surrounded her life, the fate of her birth mother, how her life was shaped and controlled from the very beginning. She becomes frustrated and furious at the selfishness and cruelty of the other colonizers on the island, and starts making rash and violent decisions in her anger. She can’t even speak to Petrus after finding out he not only used her for his own political gain (just as her uncle had done), but also that he personally knew her birth mother. She’s so enraged, and that anger scares her. She has always been the composed and responsible one, but now she feels like she can’t control this anger and fear that’s absorbing her from the inside.

Spiegelbilder Introductory Post

While I’m thinking about switching to English with writing my main Criminal Minds fanfic (that las, like, zero to do with Criminal Minds) and people have vaguely expressed interest in reading about it if I should ever switch to English, I thought to make some kind of introductory/summary post about the story. Putting it under a cut because this won’t be short. Like, It will be long and full of rambling. Lots of rambling.

Mode of storytelling: collection of oneshots and multishots (up to 4part mini-stories) that can all be read independently but all revolve around the same characters

Why/how it all started: It started out in somewhen between 2011-2014 as a classic CM case fic. I created an OC and a case, and 20 chapters in I realized: a) I hate writing crime cases and b) I suck at chronologic storytelling and c) I was stuck. So I started all over twice and eventually switched to writing oneshots about the characters in 2015. In 2017 I put them all in a collection and by now we’re at 62 chapters *coughcough*. And I realized: simply writing about single topics for the characters I care about without having to press it into one long multichapter fic with one main storyline? Fits me so much better and is so much more fun for me. Actually, please blame @tarysande, because in the forums of ff.de I stumbled upon a fic rec from someone for her Grace Shepard fics and I had just started playing ME at that time and so I learned about AO3 (and tumblr) and Tara had these alphabet fics and other small story collections and I had one of these important moments: whao, that’s a thing? That’s something you can do? Just write small stuff about a single topic/from a prompt and not only focus on one big long story? So yeah, that was a huge inspiration for me to just say fuck the multichapter fic writing that I don’t work well with and instead make it a collection of small stuff.

Having cut out the “write one big case fic” and focus it on the things I actually want to tell, it drifted away A LOT from actually being a Criminal Minds fic. Basically all that is left from CM is a few characters (one minor and some minor), a handful of references and one low key case reference storyline. So do you actually need to know anything about CM to read the Spiegelbilder fics? No. As long as I’ll introduce you to the main characters and throw in some screenshots maybe and one or another youtube video, you’re good to go. Because what I love about CM are the team scenes, the characters, but especially in the second half of the series they didn’t focus a lot on the actual team banter and the cases became more and more gory and ugh, so I enjoyed the actual series less and less, but still very much care for the team/characters. But the series hasn’t gifted us with a lot of that. So Spiegelbilder is like an CM AU without all the gory case fic stuff.

While we’re at that...

What topics does Spiegelbilder touch?: A lot of dark/heavy stuff, tbh. (For those of you who know my ME stuff - that won’t be a huge surprise I assume.) But not in the gory CM case way. Still, Spiegelbilder is rated mature/P-18 for reasons. I write about abuse, rape, suicide/-al tendencies. I also write about a huge lot of other rather dark/serious matters (life decisions, me too topics, broken family dynamics and other). There’s a lot of psychological topics touched, and definitely a huge lot of PTSD. But I write about it all in a very not-explicit, sensitive, thoughtful way (my old CM crew can agree on that). I write about it not for sensationalist reasons (I’m looking at you, CM >.>), but because it is part of life and part of the characters I created. I know a lot of people don’t like stories that touch rape as a topic, and that is totally okay. And I will never write about acts of violence themselves, but only mention them and then focus on the psychological aftermath. Also, Spiegelbilder definitely is rated M for smut. Also there are both hetero and same sex relationships and polyamory. There’s a lot of queer in it.

But is there any good stuff?: Yeeees! :D A whole lot. So, what is Spiegelbilder actually about? It’s a story of two idiots being in love but denying it for too long. It’s about two idiots going from random onenigtstand to becoming friends to friends-with-benefits to lovers to married idiots. It’s a whole lot of itiots to lovers slow burn. There’s so much emotions but they are very much idiots first. Did I mention they end up married? And happy? They are also happy in between. But they got a lot of difficulties to overcome that life throws their way.

So who are those two idiots?: Spiegelbilder centers around Alex Dancy (OC) and David Rossi (Criminal Minds). With this, the story also deals with age differences in relationships, because there are roughly 2 decades between them. For the main storyline, Alex is in her 30′s and Dave in his 50′s. And I realized: Alex and Reda Shepard share quite some, if not all character traits. So if you can stand Reda? Chances are good that you can stand Alex, too. She, too, is a ray of sunshine. :D (No, actually she is, it just depends to whom.)

Are there more?: Oh boy, there are. :D Actually, Spiegelbilder by now has sereval main storylines with so many characters. Those are:

The Russian Era

Covers Alex’ youth and upbringing. Put in short: while she’s bron to an american father and russian mother in New York, the family moved to Russia for family matters when Alex was two. Her older sister died in a car accident when Alex is 14 and the family can’t deal with the loss. Father leaves, Alex is much of a trouble child, mother kicks her out for it and focuses in the smaller twins instead. Alex gets taken in by a social worker (Yuri) into a youth club/shelter. This strand of the story focusses on that time.

The London Era

Not much written about yet, but covers Alex’ 20′s. She moves to London after school to study social work and get away of her past. She then works as a street worker for youth mostly. She lives in a happy little hippie commune there and has a long time girlfriend there. In her mid twenties, she runs into Dave Rossi (CM) while he is on a book reading tour (that’s quite a fun story tbh). They end up in a one night stand and think they never meet again - alas, destiny knows better, right? They meet again on a conference for social work where Dave is meant to recruit new folks for the BAU (behavioral analysis unit from the FBI). Alex is in a state of things be quite difficult at that time both work wise (major funding cutting in Londons social work area) and personally (relationship with girlfriend suffers a lot from Alex being work first everything else second). Over a discussion about the BAU’s work (that Alex does not support a lot) Dave tells her that the FBI at that time (early 2000′s) is founding a new unit that focusses on the victims of crimes rather (the VAU - victims assistance unit) (all real units, time frame is even halfway correct and fitting). Alex pllies for that and gets in.

The VAU Era / BACA

Alex moves to the states and helps building the VAU and works there as a social worker. Because she does miss her street work with youth, she also volunteers in BACA (major plot line). BACA is Bikers Against Child Abuse, a biker organisation that tries to empower mentally/physically/sexually/otherwise abused children and teens (amazong organization, please check them out!). Alex becomes part of the local BACA chapter and spends like all of her non work time there. - By now there is a whole set of characters I wrote for that - while BACA exists, the chapter I write about is made up as are all characters.

The Boston Era

For roughly three years, Alex (still FBI agent as part of the VAU) is assigned to an undercover job in Boston. Basically, she works as a social worker there, too, but infiltrates a ecological activism group (that doesn’t quite fall into the eco terror range) to get intel. It isn’t meant to be this long lasting but ends up taking up almost three years.

After that, she goes back to the VAU to Washington again.

The BAU Era

In Criminal Minds, one of the major characters dies at some point and Alex takes her job for a while. Yes, this is obviously the very inital story idea from very early on (aka how do I include an OC into the CM story?). Anyways, I never focus on the actual BAU work (because, see above, I neither like it nor am good at case writing). But, one aspect that gets important is Grant Anderson (CM side character, agent that sometimes works with the BAU in the series). So the series doesn’t tell us much about Anderson (sorry Mass Effect Anderson for the name similarity, ME Anderson is a gemme, my CM ANderson is not. xD), so my take is: Anderson always wanted to be part of the actual BAU and applied several times, but never made it in. Now he has some issues and Alex is the one who darws the card wrong-time-wrong-place. With her work being her priority - but she always stays a social worker at heart and not an FBI agent, so she never is 200% in FBI, but 250% in being a social worker and also her voluntary work with BACA, Anderson snaps. He starts stalking her and terrorizing her because she is not passionate enough about being in the BAU and also has taken his position. That most to a classic case fic I’m writing here, but less like in an actual CM episode. The whole story goes FUBAR and really fucks Alex up and has her drop out of the job for a while and eventually quite with the FBI completely.

Post-FBI Era

Alex turns back to working as a social worker full time after a long time of recovery of Andersons mind fuckery. She gets back to be her happy self, living happily ever after.

Meanwhile: The Idiots To Lovers Plot

Remember how Alex and Dave met by pure accident in London when Alex is in her mid-20′s and they have a random onenightstand? After they meet again on that conference a year later, they keep in touch and become friends, especially after Alex moves to the states. They stay friends for a long time and only get involved sexually again couple of months after Alex joins the BAU. So a lot of Spiegelbilder is about how their relationship develops during all the time, from strangers to friends to friends-with-benefits to idiots to lovers to being married and buying a fucking awesome house, adoting a dog and all. Yes. There is chapters about buying a house, adopting a dog, getting married, buying groceries before a vacation - I CAN write fluff if I want to. :D

The Characters: There is, as you can imagine now, a whole set of characters I created for this, that I really like a lot. A friend once said it’s a shame I put all this into a fanfic (that isn’t so much of a fanfic anymore, right?) because it could as well be a novel - but I like it that way. Spiegelbilder is my feel good playground for years now and I don’t want to put any of it into the real world, I like to keep it in the fanfic closet. Also, Spiegelbilder is my sandbox to think through topics (life decisions, struggling with job decisions, other random or not so random stuff), so that’s that. - I got distracted, sorry. The characters: to give you a shot impression, there is a yet as very much work in progress character page you can see here.

So Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is coming out next month and since I tend to base my OCs off of women who deserved better in other games/shows/whatever, I’m honestly so tempted to call my Shepard Maeve and make her an Engineer or Sentinel. Could also do Haley, but the blonde textures in literally most of the video games I’ve played are ass and even with the remaster I don’t have a ton of faith. I could also go down the rabbit hole of characters who deserved better from the CM fandom and base Shepard off of Tara or JJ.

1) How would you poorly explain your WIP in one sentence?

The one I’m trying to sell is speculative, upmarket, like if Paulo Coehlo’s work mated with Dan Brown’s and produced a girl child called Dorothy.

The one I’m still writing is mainstream, women’s fic like Elizabeth Berg or Liane Moriarty.

2) Which OC is the most like you personality wise? Physically?

Many of my characters have a bit of me. My beta readers say that the domestic goddess Tara most strikes them as me. Like her, I lost a brother and I’m a blond mommy.

3) What have you incidentally become an expert of because of your writing?

Writing. I started because I needed to get certain ideas out of my head and I challenged myself to write an actual novel with said ideas. I didn’t plan to share my work initially.

4) Do you have MBTI types for your characters? The Zodiac? If so, what are they?

I have a degree in Psychology. I rely on that heavily for character development.

5) What line or paragraph are you particularly proud of in your story?

I’m a big picture girl and I start with ideas to explore and stories to tell. That’s more my focus than individual lines.

6) You’ve just run into your OC on the sidewalk. What is the reaction?

I’d probably be in the zone and pass them by unawares.

7) What is one piece of writing advice you absolutely love? Hate?

I like this advice from the person who tagged me. 

Writing even when you’re not inspired–especially when you’re not inspired. I love the phrase, “You can’t edit a blank page.” Writing is hard but rewarding, but you have to do it. 

It works to just sit down and slog through it. Sometimes it incites the muse.

I hate any advice that’s formulaic. There’s no magic formula to writing. There’s trends and tropes, sure, but no one way to be successful at writing. Write what you want to write.

This one is true too. Fresh and new comes from this point of view, as well as motivation and fun, but one also has to have at least a good education on the standards of good writing and style. And when submitting for publication one must be able to follow guidelines.

8) If you could introduce your characters to characters from another author’s work, who would you introduce and why?

To be honest, the list is too long. I love experiments.

9) What is something you love that your OC hates, or they love and you hate?

Grace loves nit-picky organizational work. I’m not so gifted.

It’s been a long time since I did one of these, and there are even more of you now, so:

Hi, I’m Tara. Professionally, I’m a writer and editor. I’m in my 30s, I’m married, I’m Canadian but have lived all over the world, I identify as demisexual (and what a relief it was to realize there was a term for it!). I’m working on a bunch of original writing; I talk about it occasionally. I’ve been on tumblr for five years? Six? Seven? I don’t even remember, and I deleted my very first post so tumblr doesn’t actually send me those happy tumblr birthday emails anymore. Wah.

Things you’ll see on this blog: a lot of Mass Effect, especially FemShep/Garrus, although I reblog other ME-related stuff, too. You’ll also see quite a lot of Dragon Age. I occasionally rec things, usually fic, and usually ME or DA, if you want something other than my stuff to read.

I really love Iceland (other places, too, but I really love Iceland), and tea, and pretty dresses, and rain, foxes and writing. I loved the new Wonder Woman. I’m playing Horizon Zero Dawn right now and I loving that, too. A few times a year, I disappear to Florida to visit @w0rdinista (partly because she is my best friend 5 ever, and partly because we’re working on one of those aforementioned original fic projects together). I do post personal stuff occasionally. I am wildly averse to spoilers and a TAGGER OF ALL THINGS, so if you want something specific tagged specifically, hit my up askbox.

Tumblr is my happy fannish space: you won’t see a lot of negativity here and you’ll never see character hate (though you may see character discussion).

My fic (Mass Effect and Dragon Age) can be found on AO3, or in my fic tag here on tumblr. Most of the Mass Effect fic I write is about the same Shepard and Garrus, and you can find a roughly-chronological accounting of their story on my blog’s sidebar. (For the most part all my stories will stand alone, but you’ll have more context if you read everything, since occasionally I’ll refer to events that happened in other fics.) I’m in the middle of writing a post-Destroy epic called A Handful of Dust; it’s not updating as fast as it was because complicated stories being complicated, but I’m an obsessive finisher of things, so I promise you’ll never be left with an abandoned, unfinished WIP. My other major WIPs are Any Four Walls (post-game Shepard and Garrus as parents of adopted OCs Rose and Tyrra whom I LOVE MORE THAN LIFE) and Unshaken by the Darkness (about Cullen’s life from A-Z, which I will get back to eventually). I do have a Ryder, Cal (Calliope), but there’s no fic about her (yet?).

For dash-management purposes, I can’t follow everyone who follows me (and I basically can’t follow anyone who doesn’t use tags!), but I am always happy to interact with people, even if we’re not mutuals (via ask or via tarysande@gmail). Please, feel free to introduce yourself at any time. (And blanket apology: if I don’t reply to an ask, it’s not you, it’s me. I love getting them. I don’t always reply in good time.)

1. What are some of your childhood cartoons that you remember and love? Right off you’re making me show my age! Besides the 90s nicktoons you mean? She-Ra, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Thundercats, Jem and the Holograms, Transformers, and Inspector Gadget. And Pee Wee’s Playhouse, even if it’s not a cartoon.

2. What is your favorite stuffed animal and what did you name it? When I was born my paternal grandmother brought a teddy bear to the hospital that I still own. And since I lacked any imagination back then I just called him “Bear”. XD He sits on my bookshelf now.

3. What is your favorite color? I think green, like natural greens not neon green. Or yellow depending on the shade. As a kid it used to be pink and purple.

4. What fandom are you currently focused on? BBC’s The Musketeers. I just finished the last season the other day, and I’m gutted there aren’t more! And Lord of the Rings (obviously). 

5. Childhood/current character crushes? I *think* as a kid I favored the Blue Power Ranger (was his name Billy?) back when it was new. Then I grew to appreciate sarcasm and it was Bernard the elf from the Santa Clause. Current” Uh...Aramis, Porthos, or Legolas - and not for the same reason; just odd quirks basically.

6. What is your current job? Is it your dream one? If not, what is your dream job? Currently a freelance artist (need a commission anyone?) If it were more stable I’d say yes, but my realism is beating out the dreamer in me. I’d love to be able to teach art in elementary school one day, actually.

7. What is your favorite book? That depends. Childrens’ books include Miss Nelson is Missing, Caps for Sale, and The Graveyard Book. I did enjoy the first three Sookie Stackhouse books. The latest series I’ve finished reading on the kindle that I’ve enjoyed is the Cursed MacKinnons series by Tara Nina. Those are more “mature” books like Sookie, but the downside is the publisher of the books went under, so the author is in limbo getting placed again. Sucks because there’s one more in the set too!

8. Who is/are your best friends? In-person I thought I had a few, but out of high school they decided their boyfriends were the end-all be-all, and I was more focused on anything else. Online though - @counting-sinful-stars. There’s just something about talking with another person who just gets and encourages the torturing of y’alls OCs. XD

9. Do you have any pets? What are their names? I only have two anymore. Gidgit (who just hit 18) is part Maine Coon part I don’t know what. Louie (who’s 7 in October) is - I swear - a mix of the two dogs we lost in the last few years. He’s clearly part Boxer, but he’s blowing hair right now like a German Shepard or Golden Retriever. Then there’s some days he looks like a Great Dane so I don;’t know.

10. If you could meet anyone in the world, past or present, and become their friend, who would it be? My namesake, my maternal great grandmother. She passed away before I was born, and from my understanding was a total hellraiser that would dance barefoot on the roof of her house. This was also the same woman that shot a pair of her husbands’ coveralls one night because she thought it was an intruder. It gets better; this house was literally across the street from the police station. They knew her well.

11. If you could rewrite a famous book/movie/comic/TV etc series, which one would you choose? Suicide Squad. Get rid of Jared Leto entirely. I also wouldn’t have made the script until the solo movies were made to eliminate the need for all the backstories. And just because I’d fix the Harley/Joker dynamic, getting rid of what it’s become and make it a tag-team shitstorm. I’m pretty sure there’s more I would change in other books/movies/comics/TV, but that one just irks me to no end. Oh! 50 Shades of Grey! Make it a comedy. If they won’t show all his bits and bobs, they shouldn’t show hers; just make the whole damn thing a comedy.
