Summoning
Note: Somewhat inspired off of @simplydm and their Operation Impulse Control fic, go read it >:3

Demon summoning was trickier than it sounded, and just as ugly. They were not allowed in the Overworld, not allowed to even come into contact with most players, their mere existence was a confusion of code and some cruel thing that was truly alive. Creatures of destruction, misery, and pain.
Which was funny to Tango. He’d lived in the nether as a child, growing up alongside many demons, and he could see in some way why they were feared, didn’t mean he fully understood it though. Especially when his best friend was a demon. Okay he was half demon, but that never stopped anyone.
Impulse was misapplied code, an error in the system, and could not naturally join servers even when whitelisted.
This meant summoning, this meant spilled blood from a friend, and it meant becoming a creature of wrath.
Tango doesn’t like thinking back to that night, running away when he knew he should’ve stayed. He should’ve helped. He should’ve done something to save his friend. But that wasn’t his friend, that couldn’t be sweethearted Impulse, not with that gnashing maw with protruding canines built for tearing and piercing and-
There had been a scream somewhere in the forest, Mumbo stepping to close and getting hurt.
‘That’s not Impulse, that’s not him.’ The netherborne thought to himself.
Another step, another yelp somewhere far off, then an inhuman snarl echoed loudly. All he could think about in that fearful moment as his heart pounded away in his chest was how everyone was going to die. The entire server would go up in smoke and blood and strewn organs.
And it would be his fault.
He bit his cheek and fell against a tree, desperate apologies escaping him as his vision filled with smoke.
Tango didn’t even flinch when he heard another roar and something crashing to the ground, he simply had to hope that they were safe and sound and-
He never wanted to return to this place, he never wanted his friend to remember. He just wanted Impulse, his Impulse. Not the demon that stole his soul and face and body, but the demon hybrid that he cared so much for.
When Xisuma showed up with an injured Mumbo following behind him, Tango didn’t know if he was more or less afraid. Truly he didn’t know how he felt seeing an unconscious Impulse in a cage, but that was him and he was alive and-
“I’m sorry…” Was all he’d said before exhaustion caught up to him.
His friend was safe, but he didn’t know what the cost would be for it.

say a prayer for the broken bones by firefall
Author summary:
Up in their room, Malia draws the pain from Scott’s healing ribs, blackness licking up her veins. Once he’s comfortable, drinking carefully from a cup of water, Malia asks quietly, her voice cracking, “Why do you do this to yourself?”
Scott sighs. “You know why, Mal. If I win too quickly, they’ll find out I’m a wolf. I have to at least pretend it’s a fair fight!”
But Malia just looks uncharacteristically compassionate. Stiles’ stomach is churning. “You know what I think? I think you’re punishing yourself when you don’t have to.”
Scott is a fighter, Malia is (almost) a nurse, and Stiles just wants to protect his family. 1930's AU.
Reasons to love the fic: The 1930's au scared me off a little at first and that was unfortunate for me because this fic is fantastic and has everything I love about aus. I love how the author uses the canon characters and the harrowing way they explore the werewolves are known aspects of this au, along with the Great Depression. The Scott/Malia/Stiles interactions are breathtaking, and as always, I am a sucker for a loving Stiles POV always.
Don't forget to let the author know if you enjoyed the fic!

I went to see Wet Leg yesterday!
Small venue, weird mix of a crowd (people my age, even older, young people which I kind of expected since the venue is a club and near a university, local people and a lot of English guys), nice support band.
They were really good, I had fun!
And bought the best merchandising t-shirt I've gotten so far.

Sacred Lamb
Sacred Lamb is a place where serial killer survivors are placed by witness protection. If a gang of undead serial killers is looking for a challenge, I’m thinking this town is the perfect location for their next party. I’m not sure if this graphic novel is an homage to my favorite cheesy 1980s horror movies or a parody. Unfortunately, even the original movies have some cringeworthy sexism and…

how much time do you guys think is between regeneration by the sea and landing back in london for the doctor?
Tumblr media
between here and here. is it like, immediate. were they like "new old doctor, gotta find donna" like subsconsciously? at the end of star beast the tardis is new that would mean she hasnt had time to regenerate yet that would imply it is immediate right?

little earthquake
We had a lovely little earthquake here this morning. Yes, really lovely, I’m not kidding. Earthquakes feel fun (if you don’t have reason to think that your building is coming down on your head).
The P waves arrive first, a sort of buzzing shock, then a little later (a few seconds, depending on distance from epicenter) the S waves arrive -- and those are the rock-and-roll waves. Like being in a hammock with someone pushing up/down and side-to-side at the same moment. Lasts half a minute.
Turns out it was rated magnitude 5.1 which really is a minor quake, and even at the center no damage was reported. Well, a couple folks reported pictures or mirrors shook off the wall. No big deal. That was a very friendly hammock-pusher ;)

Black Paradox
Four oddballs meet on a website called Black Paradox to plan for their mass suicide. When that doesn’t work out for them, the comedic horror turns into a bat poop crazy science fiction plot. It’s definitely not a boring twist, but not entirely comprehensible either. I think Black Paradox would better suit gonzo science fiction fans than horror lovers. Still, impressive artwork of incredibly gory…

they have a point though. you wouldn't need everyone to accommodate you if you just lost weight, but you're too lazy to stick to a healthy diet and exercise. it's that simple. I'd like to see you back up your claims, but you have no proof. you have got to stop lying to yourselves and face the facts
Must I go through this again? Fine. FINE. You guys are working my nerves today. You want to talk about facing the facts? Let's face the fucking facts.
In 2022, the US market cap of the weight loss industry was $75 billion [1, 3]. In 2021, the global market cap of the weight loss industry was estimated at $224.27 billion [2].
In 2020, the market shrunk by about 25%, but rebounded and then some since then [1, 3] By 2030, the global weight loss industry is expected to be valued at $405.4 billion [2]. If diets really worked, this industry would fall overnight.

"[Latest] Global Weight Loss and Weight Management Market Size/Share Worth." Facts and Factors Research. 3. LaRosa, J. March 27, 2023. "U.S. Weight Loss Market Partially Recovers from the Pandemic." Market Research Blog.
Over 50 years of research conclusively demonstrates that virtually everyone who intentionally loses weight by manipulating their eating and exercise habits will regain the weight they lost within 3-5 years. And 75% will actually regain more weight than they lost [4].

The annual odds of a fat person attaining a so-called “normal” weight and maintaining that for 5 years is approximately 1 in 1000 [5].

Doctors became so desperate that they resorted to amputating parts of the digestive tract (bariatric surgery) in the hopes that it might finally result in long-term weight-loss. Except that doesn’t work either. [6] And it turns out it causes death [7],  addiction [8], malnutrition [9], and suicide [7].

Fatness was associated with only 1/3 the associated deaths that previous research estimated and being “overweight” conferred no increased risk at all, and may even be a protective factor against all-causes mortality relative to lower weight categories [19].

Studies have observed that about 30% of so-called “normal weight” people are “unhealthy” whereas about 50% of so-called “overweight” people are “healthy”. Thus, using the BMI as an indicator of health results in the misclassification of some 75 million people in the United States alone [20].

While epidemiologists use BMI to calculate national obesity rates (nearly 35% for adults and 18% for kids), the distinctions can be arbitrary. In 1998, the National Institutes of Health lowered the overweight threshold from 27.8 to 25—branding roughly 29 million Americans as fat overnight—to match international guidelines. But critics noted that those guidelines were drafted in part by the International Obesity Task Force, whose two principal funders were companies making weight loss drugs [21].
