Note a caso: Per @deanandseths, ma non finisce qui perché Seff mi fa pena e, insomma, ad un certo punto succedono cose. Ringrazio @ambrosingaround perché le ho allegramente rubato parti di headcanon. 

Seth fece scorrere malvolentieri il dito sulle canzoni della playlist del telefono, odiandole una più dell’altra. Odiando moderatamente anche se stesso per averla creata, quella maledetta playlist. All’inizio aveva pensato di metterci solo le tracce dei viaggi insieme a Dean, quelle che gli avrebbero ricordato i primi tour insieme – Dean seduto accanto a lui che teneva svogliatamente gli occhi chiusi sotto gli occhiali da sole, Roman da qualche parte dietro di loro con le cuffie più grandi della sua testa – e poi era inevitabilmente finito sulle canzoni devastanti che gli strappavano via il cuore e glielo ricacciavano nel petto più o meno integro. Meno.

Ci aveva infilato, così, tanto per, anche la canzone che Renee non smetteva di canticchiare dopo il suo matrimonio super segreto con Dean – anzi, no, con Jonathan.

Seth premette così forte contro lo schermo del cellulare che quasi non lo incrinò.

Erano in bus, diretti verso Parigi, l’ultima dannata tappa di quel tour che era sembrato un inferno.

Un inferno perché l’estate si stava avvicinando, anche se era solo maggio, e, nonostante nessuno sapesse nulla di certo, forse Dean sarebbe riuscito a tornare per SummerSlam. E, sebbene ci fossero ancora parecchie questioni da chiarire, Vince era abbastanza positivo sul fatto che Dean sarebbe tornato come alleato di Seth. Contro chi, non era noto, ma sarebbe tornato al suo fianco. E, se la cosa fosse riuscita a SummerSlam, sarebbe stato magnifico.

Quando gli era stato comunicato, Seth aveva annuito e aveva risposto che, sì, sarebbe stato davvero magnifico. E poi non ricordava granché, ma sapeva di aver ascoltato la canzone di Renee per un inquietante numero di volte.

E in quel momento Seth si trovava seduto vicino a Finn con i Mayday Parade nelle orecchie che gli cantavano:

e non riusciva a stare seduto né a respirare. Voleva solo arrivare in quella stupidissima città - “la città dell’amore” aveva ridacchiato una voce anonima dietro nelle retrovie, accennando alla possibile storia tra qualcuno e qualcun altro, fare quello show e tornare negli Stati Uniti.

“But I want the whole damn thing”

Una gomitata seguita da un ‘Va tutto bene?’ fecero quasi sì che Finn venisse scaraventato giù dal sedile, ma prendersela con lui non aveva senso. Prendersela con chiunque non fosse lui stesso non aveva senso.

Gli lanciò un’occhiata, a Finn, e si chiese se a lui capitasse mai di farsi schifo. Avrebbe quasi voluto domandarglielo a voce alta, ma si limitò a rispondergli che, sì, era tutto a posto, scusa se sono stato un compagno di viaggio tremendo, poi tornò a fare il compagno di viaggio tremendo ricacciandosi le cuffiette nelle orecchie e pescando la canzone più deprimente nel bouquet che la playlist gli proponeva.

Avrebbe desiderato qualcosa che dicesse: “Ti sei finto il più grande degli amici mentre l’uomo di cui eri innamorato viveva la sua luna di miele quando invece speravi soltanto che gli andasse male qualcosa, poi gli si è fottuta la carriera”, ma quelle canzoni purtroppo non le producevano più, solo lagne con ‘mi manchi, torna qua’ – e a Seth comunque bastavano per ridursi ad un miscuglio di risentimento e dolore.

    Dopo lo show Seth declinò qualsiasi proposta di fare qualcosa a Parigi (Roman gli aveva addirittura chiesto se gli andasse di vedere la Tour Eiffel con lui, ma Seth avrebbe preferito spararsi ad un piede) e si ritirò in albergo.

Era molto meglio stare da solo in una camera mediamente lussuosa a ripensare a tutti i propri errori.

Al fatto che per mesi – o per anni? – si era sentito uno stupido adolescente, aveva tentato di fare la prima mossa, finendo solo per rafforzare quella che era diventata la grande amicizia di cui tutti parlavano. A volte si sorprendeva a guardare su YouTube quegli stupidi video tipo “tot WWE Superstar con cui Seth Rollins va d’accordo e tot che invece odia” e c’erano sempre lunghe descrizioni coronate da stupide foto su tutti gli anni di affetto che avevano unito lui e Dean Ambrose. E invece no. Perché magari quell’idiota di Dean Ambrose poteva essere stato contento di aver trovato un amico all’interno del business, qualcuno che poi era diventato suoi fratello, poi la sua nemesi e poi di nuovo suo fratello, invece Seth aveva trovato solo un tarlo che gli scavava il cuore ogni giorno di più.

E se avesse potuto, dio, avrebbe bruciato tutto il merchandising dello SHIELD e i progetti per le future reunion, anche se nelle interviste diceva sempre con aria estatica che gli sarebbe piaciuto averne un’altra.

Stava andando tutto bene in quel momento: Seth poteva finalmente lavorare da solo, seguire le storyline decise per lui, avere giusto qualche interazione con Roman e fine della storia. Fine dell’esistenza di Dean Ambrose nella sua vita.

I Mayday Parade gli risuonavano nuovamente nelle orecchie e il senso di colpa gli divorava ancora il petto.

Non aveva mai nemmeno saputo se Dean si fosse mai accorto di qualcosa. Se lo avesse semplicemente preso per scemo quando si faceva troppo appiccicoso. O forse no, perché Ambrose pareva giocare allo stesso gioco. Forse faceva tutto parte di quella che doveva essere la loro grande amicizia, quella cosa indefinita che ai primi tempi dello SHIELD, quando Seth pensava ancora di poter avere una speranza, Roman invidiava loro perché lui invece si sentiva solo, nonostante i legami familiari con mezzo roster.

E poi quella cosa se n’era andata lentamente via, sostituita dalla finzione e dal dolore che Seth si divertiva ad infliggersi, quando Dean si era innamorato di Renee. Per lui non era cambiato niente, certo, perché così aveva il suo migliore amico e la sua anima gemella, mentre Seth era solo stato grato del fatto che Dean fosse una persona riservata.

Avrebbe voluto smettere di parlargli, tagliare i ponti in ogni modo possibile, quando aveva saputo del matrimonio. Saputo. Con un fottuto messaggio. Per quanto una persona potesse essere fuori di testa, nessuno mandava un sms – che poi, chi diavolo usava ancora gli sms? – per annunciare un matrimonio. Avvenuto, per giunta. E invece quell’idiota di Dean lo aveva fatto, dopo la sua stupidissima cerimonia improvvisata. Gli aveva mandato un messaggio dicendogli che era successo, che era tanto felice ed era ancora più contento di poter condividere la notizia con lui.

E, se Seth fosse stato uno stronzo, probabilmente sarebbe uscito ad ubriacarsi e avrebbe tradito Sarah con un tizio attraente qualsiasi, giusto per provare a se stesso che di Dean non gli importava, che avrebbe potuto avere chiunque. Poi, insomma, c’era Sarah, che, sì, era legata alle sue aspettative un po’ ossessive su come sarebbero dovute essere le cose: lui, soddisfatto della propria carriera, accompagnato da una ragazza radiosa e innamorata di lui, da un cagnolino e, ad un certo punto, dei bambini. Non era sicuro che fosse quello che volesse (a parte il cane), ma era quello che si immaginava quando pensava alle persone che lo avevano ispirato. O anche solo a Roman, che sembrava così felice di ciò che stava ottenendo dalla vita.

Ed era quello che stava costruendo anche Dean, no? Prima o poi gli avrebbe mandato un messaggio per dirgli che Renee era incinta, chissà.

O forse no, visto che alla fine Seth aveva davvero smesso di parlargli. Nel momento più viscido possibile, oltretutto: subito dopo il suo infortunio.

Era sparito dalla circolazione. Non lo aveva mai chiamato, non aveva mai pensato – anzi, ci aveva pensato ogni giorno – di andarlo a trovare, non aveva risposto alle sue telefonate o ai suoi messaggi, finché Dean aveva smesso anche solo di provarci.

C’era stata una puntata di Raw in cui, mentre si cambiava dopo il suo match, Renee era andata da lui e, con una punta d’imbarazzo, gli aveva chiesto gentilmente se poteva fare una chiamata a Dean o qualcosa perché si sentiva un po’ “fuori dal giro”.

La parola “abbandonato” era rimasta sospesa nell’aria, anche se entrambi sapevano che era quello che Renee voleva davvero dire.

Seth aveva annuito con un sorriso ed era tornato ad occuparsi dei suoi vestiti.
