GRABBING MY BOOKMARKS I GOT YOU COVERED (links are in the titles of each fic!)

Glimpse of Us by @/justaduckarts! This is my genuine favorite fic of all time; it's well paced, the way that Duck writes the characters are sO FUCKING GOOD GOD I WANNA GO INSANE!! I binge read it in the span of roughly 4 hours and god. The emotional wreck I was by the end it is- so fucking good.

you move to dayshift but aren't paid more, go figure by @/tuzesdays! DAYSHIFT MY BELOVED!!!!! It's currently on going and it is SO FUCKING FASCINATING I GO APESHIT WHEN THIS SHIT UPDATES MAN; Tuz's take on the Y/N is such a fresh and interesting take on them and the way they interact with the boys and the people around them is -chef's kiss- wonderful. It updates once a month, but there's a really good chunk of it out as is!

Forever Friends by @/restinsodaroni! THIS GODDAMN STORY FUCKING FUCK IM SO GODDAMN INVESTED AND YOU GET BANGER ART AT THE END OF EACH CHAPTER AND ITSGHFSJJHGFSJHEGFHGBRNBRNAAAAA; the way the plot goes!! The twists!! The characterization!! MUWAH!!! I don't usually like stories where the boys are separated (at least for pizzaplex stories), but the way that it's handled in Forever Friends is so gOOD

Days of Laughs, Nights of Screams by @/justaduckarts! Another story by Duck oops they write bangers- admittedly I'm not finished with this one yet, but from what I have so far- GODDAMN DUCK DOES IT AGAIN!! I wasn't sure how to go about this one for a hot bit, even as it was ongoing, but now that it is finished: it's honestly such a fucking delight reading, man. From what I have read, the worldbuilding for the carnival is so vivid, it's hard not to imagine such a fascinating scene! The same with the boys and other characters! They're all extremely distinct both in design and in personality!

Daydreamers by @/cacaocheri! Cherry just started writing this one! It's only one chapter so far, but the way they write each scene and interaction as of now is so fun and expressive it's hard not to fall in love! Excited for whenever the second chapter comes out!

To Understand You by @/notdysfunk! Unfortunately, this one is discontinued, but! This is one of my other favorites aside from Glimpse of Us and Dayshift; when it was still around, the story and characters are so fucking well written and paced, there's tension, there's ALL THAT GOOD SHIT!!

I got my hair cut the other day and of course I had to draw the dca boys running a hair salon:

Sun would be so effortlessly charming. Always chatting away with customers, explaining each product he uses and how to best maintain and style their hair.

Moon I can see being popular with the less chattier customers (like me) but over time they begin to open up. I imagine he hums while working. Otherwise, he's all ears for the newest gossip.

(The clipped up hat idea came from @bamsara's solar lunacy doodles!)

Also I love the popular headcanon that the dca can speak other languages, so I can imagine them being a hit with the aunties.

Other thoughts about this... AU? Can I call it an AU? Feels kinda small for an AU, but whatever:

Eclipse works there too! Haven't decided if it would be canon or fanon Eclipse, though I really like the image of 4-armed Eclipse working on 2 clients at once (plus, the nickname Clip is perfect for this scenario)

of course they're great with kids! They'd be able to console kids that get scared of getting their hair cut. Sun would do a little trick and tell them how good and brave they are all the way through. Moon would console them and hum a soothing song (or hey maybe they notice the kid's wearing a disney shirt and starts humming some showtunes). Every kid gets a candydrop and a balloon on their way out.

y/n works at the hair salon as a part-timer and does tasks around the salon like sweeping, arranging bookings, washing hair, etc. They don't really care too much about their own hair, but the boys are always offering to style it, dye it, braid it. With y/n's permission, the boys always toy with their hair—patting it, combing their hands through it, brushing it over y/n's ear, ruffling it.

It started with me thinking and wondering about a specific fic that is unrelated to this post, frankly different fandom, and I was wondering how it would play out in a movie format, but seeing as the fic in question currently is unfinished and won't be for a while I decided to direct my attention to other fandoms, got to DCA fandom, came up with a few cute ideas i didn't write down for unfinished fics, for the record I do think it would be interesting if Solar Lunacy was a musical just saying, and then I started to think about ok what fics ARE fini-

SLEUTH JESTERS HECK YEAH

Unfortunately at the moment I don't have any digital sketches to share for some of these points and the sketches I do have are pretty messy SO I'LL JUST RAMBLE cause I already wrote down a lot of these separately

Firstly, I imagine this kind of musical being in universe kind of au. Possibly an extension of the Actor AU where the original media (tv show? movie?) got so popular it got a musical adaptation

I imagine the actual music, whether the songs or just sound track, would be heavily inspired by Jazz or smthn. Like, the genre of music most popular during the time period Sleuth Jesters is in ish. It would still be musical-like but you can tell the genre they are going for

And before continuing, to get around not actually saying "y/n" on stage cause that might be a little awkward MAYBE there could be some kind of special sound affect for the actors mics that the audience knows is y/n's name?? Half baked tho

COSTUMES

Sun, Moon and Eclipse (at least) would have highly decorated masks to match the original just added onto because they are on stage. Masks, so that there are more options for who to cast. To make up for this, the actors have to make it clear in their body language to make up for lack of expression

in productions with higher budget mayhaps one function could be the eyes have options for what emotion they could express

In most productions there will be sound effects in the background that mimic the noise that Sun Moon and Eclipse make as they move. Or at least be incorporated into the sound track ooooo

Y/n's clothes would have an easy to notice difference in quality compared to the DCAs, which makes the bell and ribbons much more noticeable on stage

Smaller note but I think y/n's make up could be kind of fun with how they show the y and n on their face

Would probably have a wig colored various shades of silver but not required

FIRST SONG FIRST SONG FIRST SONG

Would be the introduction (of course) and depict the first chapter and likely have something to do with "Until Next Time". I think possibly it would have little breaks in the song to fit in the dialogue

Honestly, in an adaptation there might just be more scenes added between the earlier chapters to fill in points in time or smthn

OR (the answer I like better) The first act uses time between chapters to fill in reader watcher on backstories or past's of characters

Actually yeah little hints would be packed in the first half

Any other songs could be filled in for the boys or y/n that could have the potential to return as a Reprise

Now listen Mandatory Eclipse Villain song(s)

this is not optional

Duets Duets DUETS

One duet could be between characters that are foils or mirror each other but it's one of those duets that have different lyrics that still match up musically

Particularly I think the latter could be used for Sun and Moon's complicated relationship with Eclipse but not completely sure where that would be, probably second half, speaking of which...

ACT ONE ends in the chapter that Y/N has to return the favor to Eclipse, where he crashes the party and they go with him, reassuring Sun and Moon that they allways can wiggle out of situations

REPRISE OF THE FIRST SONGGGGGG

Until Next Time Reprise

Which will have a moment of silence after, showing their mutual understanding yet make it perfectly clear sun and moon don't want to do resort to this

Doesn't last to long as it proceeds with the sound track DROPPING in tone as Eclipse stuffs y/n into the car, that is actually just a prop that leads to the back stage

FADE TO BLACK INTERMISSION

ACT TWO (any major costume changes or forever hold your piece) I think would start off with Sun and Moon's dilemmas first before getting back to y/n

WHICH would likely cut to y/n maybe already in the burgundy shirt but meh that's not solid

I think the way Eclipse gives them the burgundy ribbon and bell could be changed in an adaptation of the story since it would be easier I imagine to show it later than in a car set piece

(Admittedly I have to reread these specific chapters to know specifically the order) But when Eclipse drops the bombshell he knows their past, and I think he leaves them alone for a bit after that, SONG TIME (though song could still happen with him there honestly)

Something similar to the theme "I thought I burned everything" and would just

And after that likely more backstory could be cut to depending on what it is and how relevant it is at that point. WOuld be much grimmer in tone but hey it's the second act.

Though if this opportunity is taken, this could be reprised later when Y/N proposes to the boys, with the necklaces to show being more comfortable with their past

More song opportunities with Y/N's trust issues, Sun and Moon's brother issues, etc

Final act-ish, where y/n first runs away after Sun and Moon "find out" and from there would have more focus on the score than any songs that could be fit into that small frame.

My thoughts went kind of to Heather's Dead Girl Walking Reprise and then Veronica and JD's tussle toward the end if songs got implemented there

AND OF COURSE The moment of Eclipse's death is really what makes me think this would be adapted into a musical in universe

Because it does kind of fit the bill for being tragic

You feel bad enough for what could have been

But also remember "Nah that bitch deserves it"

But also.. it's sad

PERFECT FOR MUSICAL ENDING

After proposal, there is possibility to do a QUICK little glance into the future at the end, not unlike Dear Evan Hansen's ending, but maybe not

I forgot to mention earlier, but the character that is revealed to be a spy for Eclipse at the police station I'd imagine would have hints on their clothing (like burgundy) that would foreshadow their side

Eclipse would bow by himself, flaunty as ever, yet you can still kind of tell the actor is kind of a sweetheart

Sun and Moon would enter, bow together and then welcome Y/n

Who would get to bow on their own, then with Sun and Moon

Then the rest of the cast is welcomed

How the arrangement would go from left to right I was thinking

Law Enforcement and basic background cast making up crowds, Freddy, Gregory, Sun, Y/N, Moon, Eclipse, Michael, Other Aftons and Spy, rest of Law Enforcement and basic background cast making up crowds

I'm curious, why did you decide to write Moon the way you did- not personality wise, but speaking in short (directish?) sentences? I really like that detail about him! (Also how, it's kinda hard T.T)

Part of the inspiration came from good ol' Solar Lunacy. I think he's a little more verbose in the fic itself, but especially in the comics Bam does, he has that direct way of speaking that caught my attention.

In roleplay I'd already worked with a character that I'd given a similar clipped speaking style, so for Moon I dialed it up to 11. It's been really fun!

And oh absolutely |D it definitely gets tricky sometimes. There's a couple of rules I more or less follow, though of course I'll go with exceptions if that's what flows.

So really what Moon does most of the time is jump straight to the subject of a sentence. For example, this bit from chapter 10:

We've cut down the question "do you want to switch?" To just the most important part. He does this a lot when asking or answering questions, usually followed up by a more normal, but still short sentence.

He also tends to drop the pronouns at the start of sentences, or words like 'that' or 'have'. This rule probably gets the most exceptions because sometimes a pronoun is needed anyway. This bit also from 10 demonstrates that, as well what was said above.

(Fun fact! The only time Moon uses the word "I" is when he says "I know". Otherwise he always drops it from the sentence.)

If Moon can condense a thought down to a certain phrase, he does. Hence his use of "rulebreaker", "intruder", "Naptime", etc. It's really all about efficiency, and how can you communicate an idea in the fewest words. It also depends on who he's talking to. He gets away with much, much shorter sentences when talking to Sun than when talking to Gregory, since he and Sun share common knowledge (like how you can repeat just a word or two from a meme your friends are familiar with and they immediately get it).

6. I got into SAMS by looking at some posts of it via @dana-chan-the-control-brain/@twinanimatronics. Which, if you haven't read their stuff yet, you totally should!

7. That's a tough one... I'd say my favorite SAMS character is probably Moon, followed by Lunar.

8. I kind of cycle through favorites, I guess. A lot of it depends on what I'm feeling most inspired to write at the moment... currently for me I'm thinking more about my PMD stuff and the bag swap au--and, of course, security cam moon.

As for others' stuff... well, lots of dp x dc crossovers, and @bamsara's Solar Lunacy, probably. Also the latest stuff coming out of the Twin Animatronics series.

TW Swearing TW Cheating

The clock above the oven was slow, two minutes behind, to be precise. It stalled at 4:57 am. The room was shrouded in soft light from the hall. A faint yellow glow to keep you from stubbing your toe on the kitchen island. You read in the paper that the sunrise would be around 6:45. Fairly typical of late autumn. The tiles in the kitchen were cold, like a sheet of ice was laid over the floor. The entire house felt frigid and dead. You leaned at the counter next to the stove, watching the hot plate grow redder and redder. A white percolator was starting to steam. The silk robe wrapped around your shoulders did nothing to wick away the chill nipping at your thighs and ankles.

Deeper in the house, you heard the jiggle of a doorknob and someone shuffling into the living room. Your fiancé, William Afton, yawned, rubbing at his eyes as he strolled into the kitchen. A blue felt robe was tied loosely at his hips, his chest bare but a pair of striped pajama bottoms saved his dignity. William flinched at first, but relaxed, recognizing you in the dim light.

"A bit early to put on coffee." He mumbled, scratching at his stubbled jaw. But, he didn't complain, sidestepping you to get to the upper cabinet and grab a mug. You said nothing. You didn't even spare him a glance. Disgust stirred in your chest as you were reminded of where you found him yesterday morning. Wrapped up in your sheets, comfortable with another lover.

His bare feet tapped against the floor as he walked behind you. He set the empty mug on the counter, wrapped his arms around your waist, and kissed your cheek. The wiry 5'oclock shadow scratching your face. You barged your way out of his hold, pushing him aside.

"What the hell was that?" He barked in surprise.

He shut up when he saw your face,  narrowed into a venomous glare. Your arms crossed as you leaned against the refrigerator door.

William sighed, his hand at his temple. 

"Is this about Johannes?" His voice was tired and bored. He could care less as he helped himself to the fresh pot of coffee.

"How long?" You were surprised you could even speak about his disgusting display. Of course, William decided to play stupid.

"How long, what, dear?"

"How long have you been fucking each other in our bed." The words came out like jagged glass, trying to elicit any sort of remorse from the man in front of you. He shrugged.

"Just once. I prefer the hotel down by the bistro. Keeps the public eye away. "

A scoff caught in your throat.

"What? I'm just being honest-"

Your voice broke as everything hit your heart at once. You looked at William dead in the eyes through the angry tears starting to prick at the corners of your own. "How could you do this to me? To us... Our wedding is in three weeks, and you’d toss it in the bin for one of your assistants." a bitter laugh cut off your own words. You couldn't believe what came out of your own mouth, your own naivety. You were warned he was a wanderer- hell, he's already been divorced! How could you be so stupid! Stupid-stupid-stupid!

William rolled his eyes, swirling the mug of coffee like a glass of red wine.

"Oh, would you stop with the theatrics? I still love you. We're still going to tie the knot. I already spent a fortune on the venue and that damned dress. No matter what you think, I'm not throwing "us" away."

"Do I even get a say in this?" Your hands were now on your hips. 

William's gaze narrowed, "You gave me your answer. What, you want to break up over a small infidelity? Seems to me like you want to toss the relationship in the bin."

"You go behind my back sleeping around the town and expect me to be okay with becoming your spouse?!"

"You are so dramatic. All I was doing was fulfilling my needs. Something you've been denying me."

"Your needs- your fucking needs!" Your hand clamped over your mouth as you fought back the urge to scream. You could feel your heart rate spike. But, you refused to raise your voice. Your eyes glanced back to the hall where your sibling’s room was.

"You can't possibly expect a man like me to be satisfied with just this! It's not in our DNA- there are studies about this- hell, it's even in the word of God! You don't need to take it so personally."

You heard enough. You brushed past William through the kitchen and out the front door without another word. William's yells echoed past the closed door and the threshold of your yard for you to come back.

Outside it was much colder. Patches of frost in the grass glistened like diamonds in the moonlight. Your bare feet treading on the concrete into town. You needed to clear your head. You didn't have a destination in mind, but anywhere would bring welcome peace.

The sidewalk narrowed. A few cars parked here and there as you strolled into the small strip of civilization of Hurricane. Many shops were still closed, inky black reflecting you in the window glass. It couldn't be any later than 6 am, but strangely enough, you smelled fresh bread.

It was warm and enticing, wafting from a little bakery across the street. There was no traffic stopping you from j-walking. You came up to the window, your breath fogging the glass as you peered in. The back lights were on, but no one was at the register. The local bakers must just be getting their stock ready for the day. You walked

I obviously love bamsara's art, their fic Solar Lunacy got me back into the FNAF fandom.

Popfizzles has been one of my favourite artists for years now. I just love their style so much.

I love maudiemood's style and the way they colour! Art is very shaped.

Same goes for pinkiepig, the way they use colour is absolutely magical.

Recently really got into treehairr's art!! I like the way they do lineart and how they draw Adam and Jonah.

Been following ttvck for a good while, who's art has a comforting sort of air to it in my opinion. Pretty men,, Art may occassionally be ‘suggestive’!

I've mentioned before but something about mrdelta1's art really itches my brain in the right way. Its extremely pleasing to look at.

🚀 Do you like to outline your fic first or create as you go?

It's a bit of a complicated mess. If I plan too much then It stays stuck as an idea and then if I don't plan enough any conflict or struggles that I come up with come out flat and bland for the story. I don't really write much down when I plan things out, everything just marinates in my head for a while until I'm satisfied with the conflict then I let everything else flow naturally from what the possible conflict entails from the characters and the environment. This also depends heavily on what genre I'm writing for.

🥳 Why did you start writing fanfic?

The year was 2013. I was always a book worm but I was tired of reading about new things and moving on. One day I was looking online for Adventure Time's spin off comic series of Fiona and Cake. Then I found people's fan comics of the show. Then I found the fanfictions. Then in 2014 I found out that I could also write fanfiction of my own and thus LEC743 was born in the bowls of Fanfiction.net, reading and writing fanfiction at the time when my life was changing from a graduated high schooler and starting my first year in college.

🍬 Do you write for multiple fandoms? If yes, what is your favorite fic of yours for each fandom?

Yah. I write for multiple fandoms. I can't chose a favorite, though. I feel cringe-y about my older stuff and with my newer stuff I only tend to re-read when people comment on my writings. 🤩 What led to your interest in the fandom?

Right now I have like, four main fandoms that I happen to love; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Five Nights at Freddy's, Lego Monkie Kid, and Mass Effect Andromeda. There's more of course, I just have more writing focus on these four things currently.

I've always been a TMNT fan ever since I lade my eyes on the 1990's live action movies, but I never really thought about writing fanfiction about them until the 2018 versions came out. I found @rheawritesforfun and @s-s-ironnie's blogs about their fanfictions and art and it just inspired me to write my own things.

I am not much of a horror game person, but Five Nights at Freddy's has a special place in my heart mainly because of Markiplier. I loved watching him play through the games but I never really got into writing fanfiction for the franchise until I started seeing fan art of Sun and Moon from Security Breach on Pinterest, and then when I found and started reading @bamsara's Solar Lunacy I was hooked, line, and sinker for the series.

Lego Monkie Kid wasn't something I was initially interested in. I remember when I tried getting into it for the first time that I couldn't make it through the first episode without being turned off for some reason. But then I found some fan art, and specifically I found @swagginmun's art of the monkeys and MK and they spoke so excitedly about it that I decided to give it another chance. Then I was hooked and making fanfiction for the cartoon soon after.

Mass Effect Andromeda. Has aliens. Has weird space magic. Has exploration. What can I say. I love the Mass Effect series and I liked the continuations. (clears throat then whispers) Also I suggest reading this fanfiction called "The Holes Of My Sweater". It's a Jaal POV story and it's so good guys~

💌 Is there a favorite trope you like to write?

I like those transformative tropes: friends to lovers, enemies to friends, friends to hated rivals to enemies to tentative friends to lovers, friends to family, and not just these types of transformative tropes either. I like the ones where the hero becomes the villain, or when a villain becomes a hero and they fully embrace it and or hate that they have morals, people become monsters, monsters becoming people. That shit that H.P. Lovecraft was on to make all his weird ass monsters and how they made people mad with the knowledge. 👍 It's good shit~

Hey. So. I just realized... I can decently code on Renpy, which is used to make visual novels... Namely dating sims...

I am now very tempted to make a Solar Lunacy Dating Sim 😳

Would y'all play it? It would follow a similar plot to Solar Lunacy of course, with limited action choices to keep it more in line with the actual plot... I would still have to come up with some things on my own for smaller choices, but yeah! Thinking about keeping in line with plot, the player would probably already have some amount of personality, like in the game Sucker for Love, but you can still make certain choices and what not

Idk details yet, just thought of it. I will totally make at least a mini version, but I'd be willing to make it more in depth and longer and what not if you guys would be willing to play it

Kitsune/Ghostwire AU

Y/N is half human, half kitsune fox, making them a hanyou or half yokai. They moved from Japan to America when their father’s work relocated them there. They needed a change of scenery and were happy to have a fresh start.

This happens when Y/N was in elementary school, around 6-10 years old, and they actually got to visit the Pizza Plex a few times as a kid. Their favorite animatronics were Foxy (duh), Bonnie, Chica, and the Daycare Attendants. They felt intimidated by Freddy, Roxy and Monty at first due to them being their natural predators.

Timeskip forwards to now, Y/N has graduated from their junior year of high school, but decides to get a summer job to help their father make ends meet. Practicing their kitsune powers in secret doesn’t exactly pay money, even if Y/N uses them to help people or banish evil spirits.

Cue applying to Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizza Plex! They get a simple job with non-regular hours, and befriend the robots while keeping their supernatural traits secret as per usual (but not for long of course).

As a kitsune, Y/N would be able to summon foxfire, perform illusions and shape shift but only to a certain extent. They’d be able to disguise their black furred fox ears and tail and transform into a few other forms, including that of an actual fox. I imagine they would use this ability to escape Moon’s clutches, stunning him in the process. Naturally, he and Sun are the first to find out Y/N’s not exactly human and Sun especially is fascinated by the concept.

I can see him rubbing their ears and being like ‘OMG, these ARE real!’, like in The Helpful Fox Senko-San. Y/N’s reaction to this is shivering from his cold, metallic fingers. 

I also imagine this being a crossover with Ghostwire Tokyo, so Y/N could also have some ethereal weaving abilities? Those would come in handy when the fog that hit Tokyo hits the city the Pizza Plex is in.

I can also see Y/N fighting Vanny (like a fox vs rabbit cat fight), or just protecting Sun and Moon from malevolent spirits that try to possess them, such as the one possessing Moon.

This whole scenario is inspired by my love of Japanese yokai and folklore, Solar Lunacy by @bamsara, and the vocaloid song Amatsu Kitsune by Marasy.

Night and Day Duo

The elemental forces of day and night have always been considered polar opposites. The day, ruled by the sun, is bright and inviting. The night, ruled by the moon, is dark and often considered mysterious. It's no surprise that when two characters have abilities or traits based on these forces, they form a duo of Foils.

Despite their inherent differences, these characters usually form a team rather than fight in opposition. After all, keeping the balance is necessary in works that believe in The Sacred Darkness and Dark Is Not Evil. As such, this duo typically works together, even if it's just an Enemy Mine.

However, any pairing of a sun character and moon character can fit this trope, so long as both characters have abilities and/or traits centered around their element. If the characters have powers, you can expect certain patterns.

Day-themed characters typically have fire or light-based powers and may be associated with holiness, purity, or mental discipline, such as:

The Power of the Sun

Shock and Awe, due to the electrical currents that move through the Sun's plasma

Light 'em Up

Playing with Fire, especially if the night/moon character has ice powers

Holy Hand Grenade, holy or radiant damage, the power of "good"

Healing Hands, whether healing wounds or purifying the body, mind, or spirit

Night characters will instead have powers based on darkness, cold, or their connection with the moon, controlling water and the tides:

Lunacy

Casting a Shadow, or in exaggerated cases, The Power of the Void

In addition, a pairing that merely has some of these powers isn't enough; they must be powers based on their association to day and night, rather than being incidental. A Red Oni, Blue Oni situation will generally have the red oni as day and the blue oni as night.

Asami yawned, sat up, and then realised that someone was standing next to her bed. She did the first thing that came to mind: she threw her pillow at their face and tried to kick them in the stomach. What was her security doing? It should be impossible for someone to get all the way to her bedroom without her being notified.

Her opponent ducked under the pillow and twisted away from her kick. Asami rolled out of bed and sprang forward. It was difficult to make out her opponent’s features in the gloom, but she could always knock them unconscious now and ask questions later. Her first punch was parried, and her followup kick hit nothing but air. Whoever they were, they were damn fast, and they knew what they were doing. She upped her speed, feinting high and then driving one fist toward her enemy’s solar plexus followed by a kick aimed at their legs. Her fist was batted aside, and although her kick connected, her opponent barely seemed to notice the blow.

She was about to launch another attack when the shadowy figure gestured. The room was suddenly bathed in blue light as azure flames lit up the scented candles beside her bed. Asami stopped midway through her attack. She might still have been shaking off some of her sleepiness, but she wasn’t stupid. There was only one person in the world with blue fire.

“Your Highness.” Asami stepped back and inclined her head. “I...”

“There is no need for you to apologise.” Princess Azula smiled. “Indeed, I’m pleased you showed such initiative when startled. Had I been any ordinary opponent, you would likely have knocked me unconscious within moments.”

“I... see.” Asami finally had the time to take a better look at her surroundings as her eyes adjusted to the light and her adrenaline faded. Presumably, the princess wasn’t here to assassinate her. Setting aside how unlikely it was that the royal would handle such issue herself, she would surely have used her fire by now if she was serious about killing her. Asami was good - she’d trained hard for years to ensure that - but she had no illusions as to how she would fare against the princess in combat. There was a reason soldiers from the Earth Kingdom often surrender the moment the princess took the field.

Belatedly, she realised that the princess wasn’t alone. There was a smiling girl dressed in pink standing by the door while... wait... Asami blinked owlishly... was that the Avatar next to the window? Yes. It had to be. She’d seen the Avatar once, years ago, during a trip with her father before everything had gone wrong. She had an excellent memory, and she rarely forgot a face. There was no mistaking it. The Avatar was standing right there... and she was covering her face with her hands and looking absolutely mortified.

“Azula,” Avatar Korra said. “Why do you have to make everything weird? We could have sent her a note or something. Instead, we snuck into her bedroom, and then you got into a fight with her. What if she’d punched you in the face?”

“Then I would have congratulated her for her skills,” the princess replied. “And she fought quite ably. Had I spent less effort conditioning my legs, that leg kick would likely have hobbled me.”

“Wait... shouldn’t you two be trying to kill each other?” Asami asked. “Because unless I’m mistaken, the Fire Nation and the Avatar are the enemies, right?” She felt a headache coming on. “What’s going on?”

The princess pulled a chair over to sit on and gestured for Asami to sit on the edge of her bed. The blue candle flames flared briefly and then began to burn white. Asami’s eyes widened. She hadn’t known the princess could do that. “The enmity between the Fire Nation and the Avatar is largely a product of the present management of the Fire Nation. If things go the way I want, there will soon be new management. Me.”

Asami stared. “You’re talking about overthrowing your father. That’s treason.”

“Treason? That’s interesting coming from a woman whose father was involved in a plot to wipe out all benders.”

Asami flinched. Her father’s decision to throw his lot in with the Equalists had very nearly cost them everything. Only the reliance the Fire Nation had on their company had convinced the Fire Lord to spare her, but he’d still made an example of her father. She shivered. There were still nights when she heard him screaming. He’d burned, but he hadn’t burned quickly.

“Don’t talk about my father,” Asami growled.

Azule met her gaze evenly, and a small smile crossed her lips. “And that is one of the reasons I decided to seek you out, Miss Sato. You’re not a coward. You are also your father’s daughter, every bit the genius he was, but a great deal more sensible when it comes to politics.”

“I don’t have a problem with benders in general,” Asami replied. “Only those who abuse their power over others.”

“As well you should. What my father did to yours was monstrous. Treason against the crown is punishable by death, but publicly burning someone to death as slowly as possible is mere savagery. If you’re going to execute someone, just kill them and be done with it.”

“Azula,” Korra said with a long suffering sigh. “I know you’re at least partially psychotic, but could you at least pretend to act sympathetic? We want her to help us.”

“I think Azula is charming,” the woman in pink said.

“Thank you, Ty Lee.” Azula raised one eyebrow at the Avatar. “It’s nice to know that someone appreciates me for something other than mind-blowing sex.”

Asami’s jaw dropped as the Avatar blushed so hard it looked like she might pass out. 

“Can you not do that now?” Korra hissed.

“Wait... what?” Asami was beginning to wonder if she was in the middle of a cactus juice inspired hallucination. “Can someone please explain what’s going on?”

“In simple terms,” Azula began. “The Avatar and I have come to an understanding. That understanding just so happens to involve fantastic sex in addition to a plan to save the world. We want you to get involved.”

“Do you mean with saving the world or with the sex?” Ty Lee asked. “Because we’ll need to get a bigger bed if it’s the latter.”

Azula gave Asami a frankly admiring look, and Asami belatedly realised that she was still in her nightgown. “We’ll have to see, but right now we’re here about the saving the world part.”

“...” Asami got up, pulled on a robe, and then sat back down on the edge of her bed. “Explain.”

“My father is a fool. Sozin’s comet is coming, and he plans to burn the entire Earth Kingdom to the ground.”

“That is -”

“The most monumentally stupid thing you’ve ever heard? Yes, it is. There simply aren't enough fire benders or enough time to get anywhere close. Still, his plan is simply a symptom of the disease. My father has lost all sense of perspective. The longer this war drags on, the more ruinous it will be when the Fire Nation eventually loses it. And we will lose it. We can’t fight the entire world and win, no matter what my father and his cronies think. I intend to seize control, so I can bring an end to the conflict - an end that will allow us to keep as many of our gains as possible while negotiating from a position of strength.”

“Do you plan to challenge your father to Agni Kai?”

“Of course. I’d hardly win any support by murdering him in a back alley. I need people to see that I am the better leader. My father has spent much of his life hatching mad schemes from the capital. He is powerful, yes, but his bending has not been honed in the crucible of war like mine has. I have no doubt the battle will require considerable effort on my part, but I will defeat him. The hard part will come after. A Fire Lord cannot rule alone. They need the support of the nobles, the merchants, and many others besides.”

“And that’s where I come in?”

“Indeed, Miss Sato. Despite your father’s follies, your company is one of the most important in the Fire Nation, and you are an exceedingly wealthy woman. You would make a potent ally, and you could look forward to far better treatment under my rule. Naturally, I could arrange for my father to have an unfortunate accident after I have defeated him.”

“An accident?” Asami scoffed. “You’re willing to kill your own father to get me on your side?”

“Make no mistake, Miss Sato. I am a patriot. Everything I do is for the Fire Nation. My father is a fool who has brought us to the verge of ruin. One way or another, he is going to die. I simply cannot leave him alive to rally dissenters. I can, however, allow you to do the deed, so to speak.”

“Azula,” Korra said. “I thought we talked about this. Vengeance doesn’t solve anything.”

”Is that you or the previous Avatars talking? I seem to recalling you being quite pleased to watch General Zhao drown after he wounded your mother and almost killed your father. The wave that dragged him under wasn’t a normal one either.”

Korra’s eye twitched. “You’re insufferable. You know that, right?”

“I’m insufferable because you know I’m right.” Azula glanced at Ty Lee. “Refresh my memory, Ty Lee. How did Korra react when she drowned General Zhao?”

“She was cackling pretty loudly,” Ty Lee said. “And her Aura was a wonderful blend of pink and red. She said some pretty nasty things to him too.”

“You watched her murder General Zhao?” Asami asked.

“Part of General Zhao’s brilliant plan involved killing the spirit of the moon. I don’t think I need to explain why that would be pure lunacy - pun completely intended. If General Zhao just so happened to pay for his idiocy with his life, well, the world is a far better place for it.” Azula’s lips curled into a smile that was equal parts cruel and amused. “And he was one of my most vocal political opponents. His demise was so convenient.”

Asami rubbed her temple. “So you want me to politically support you after you overthrow and murder your father?”

“Correct.”

“And then you’ll end the war?”

“Correct.”

“And the Avatar, of all people, is helping you with this scheme?”

“Also correct.”

“And you and the Avatar are a thing?”

“Again, correct, and don’t forget Ty Lee.”

“...” Asami took a deep, deep breath. “What sort of support do you already have?”

“I have good support amongst the nobility. Many of them can see the writing  on the wall. They know we can’t keep fighting this war, and they'll be glad to have a way out of it that allows us to save face and keep some of our gains. I’ve also managed to cultivate support amongst the military. I am, of course, the Fire Nation’s foremost field commander, and I have countless victories and achievements to my name. As for the merchant class, well, I do have some support there, but that is what you can help me with.”

“Even if I support you, there’s no guarantee that others will follow.”

“Miss Sato, my father executed your father. For you to support me, you must either be insane or be privy to information that suggests my victory is a foregone conclusion and that the best course of action is to join my faction - at least, that’s how it will look to the other merchants. And if there is one thing that most merchants can be relied on to do, it is to look after themselves. I am not my father, but they don’t know that. Fear will pull them into line long enough for me to demonstrate that I am the leader they have been waiting for.”

“You’re not very modest, are you?” Asami drawled.

“No, I am not. But why should I be? I’m not a monk. I am a princess, and my pride is well founded. Merely look at what I’ve already accomplished in my life.” Azula leaned forward. “Now, we can discuss the details further, but before we do, I need to know. Are you with us?”

“And if I’m not?”

“Ty Lee here is probably the most adept chi-blocker in the world. There are ways to cause short-term memory loss. You would wake up tomorrow with a headache thinking you must have worked too late again.”

“You wouldn’t kill me?” Asami asked incredulously.

“Of course not. I abhor waste, and killing you would be such a waste. You are intelligent and driven, and you are living proof of the meritocracy that I wish to implement.”

“A meritocracy?”

“Why not? Why should someone’s birth alone determine their ability to rise in society? I have known countless nobles who have done nothing at all with their wealth and power. They survive solely due to the deeds of their ancestors. They are, in every way, the lesser children of greater sires. I have also seen incompetent nobles lead thousands of men to their deaths because they were given command due to their name instead of their competence.”

“This sounds odd coming from a princess.”

“Perhaps it does. It is true that the title of Fire Lord passes through my family, yet I believe it should only go to the worthiest members of my family, the ones who have proven they have the ability to rule well. I have that ability, and when the day finally comes when I must hand over the title to a successor, I will ensure that whoever I give it to is worthy of it.” Azula smiled. “The Fire Nation is the greatest country in the world. I believe that with every fibre of my being. Yet to reach even greater heights, we must be willing to adapt and change. It will take time to implement the reforms I want, but I dream of a Fire Nation where the nobility must earn their privileges and where those of sufficient ability and talent might rise to become nobles themselves.”

“An interesting dream,” Asami murmured. She weighed her options. The princess would never have approached her if she wasn’t already confident of her chances. And if the princess did succeed, it would be far better to be on her side than against her. “Very well. I’ll join you.”

The princess extended one hand. “You won’t regret this, Miss Sato.”

“I should hope not, Your Highness,” Asami replied as they shook hands.

Ty Lee smiled at Korra. “See? I told you they’d get along.”

Korra sighed. “I still think we could have handled this without sneaking into her bedroom.” She paused. “And now we’re going to have to sneak out as well, right?”

“Naturally.” Azula stood. “Miss Sato. We will contact you when I am ready to make my move. Be ready. And do get better security. Your current bunch are awful.”

“I just wish Mai could be here,” Ty Lee said. “She loves sneaking around.”

“I would like to have Mai here as well, Ty Lee, but someone has to keep my brother from getting himself killed. I’ve already sent her a message telling her to meet us in the capital in a week. That should give her enough time to convince Zuzu not to do anything foolish.” Azula nodded at Asami and walked toward the window. “Until we meet again.”

Azula’s scheming continues. As you can see, the timeline here is a mishmash of The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra. We’re getting closer to the pointy end now too. It won’t be long before Azula is ready to make her move. Will her schemes go as smoothly as she hopes, or will she find herself fighting a far bloodier battle than she’d like. Oh well, if she has to step over a few corpses to claim the throne, she’ll do that.
