the one big thing i don’t understand about the new eden plan (other than the fact that layton was a terrible leader throughout, lied to his people, made asha lie to his people) is the fact that they kept using the word “colony”, which implied to me that only a small subset of the train would be getting off anyway.
like.
even if the science was fucking foolproof that there was 100% without a doubt a safe place outside that they could live, it’s a terrible leadership move to take the entire train there and make everyone risk their lives in the process!!!
a small subset going to make a colony, that if it succeeds more people can move into years later is literally the way it SHOULD work!!!
this was actually really really bad planning!!!!!!
melanie was right to take the train!!!!!! the ending agreement is literally what it SHOULD’VE been from day one!!!!!!

day 07: legacy
[Image ID: A darkly colored digital painting done with oil brushes of Alfendi Layton, from Layton Brothers Mystery Room, sitting at his desk in his office at dawn, as seen from the back corner of the room. He is sitting cross-legged with a cup of tea in his hands and he is blankly staring forwards. Behind him is a large window with the blinds half-down showing a grey dawn sky with mutliple buildings and Big Ben in within view. The same wall the window is on also has shelves, newspaper clippings, and a framed letter of apology addressed to Alfendi. In front of him is a messy desk with a lamp, a rotary phone, and a typewriter sitting on top, dimly shining in the light. /.End ID.]
#lb;mrweek#i know im late im sorry im so sorry#i spent tonight and last night looking for my cat up in the park for a couple of hours so i havent had much time to paint#but. I really didnt wanna miss the last day. So#fun fact i started seeing bugs on my ipad while drawing this#anyways. ANYWAYS its time for me to Explain My Reasoning#originally i had a ton of different sketches right. i couldnt choose which one i wanted to do for this prompt#one was of the layton fam greeting al post-game. one was a polaroid of lucy and al posing next to the letter of apology#and the last one was gonna be an abstract-ish portrait of al#but none of them were working with me so i decided. Actually. What do /I/ Think#basically. u know me u know im always on my poor little alfendi shit.#and i was like. well. post-game#post-game hes probably still reeling from everything that happened. Fendi that is but also Al#and hes probably just. like. Holy fuck. Holy shit man#after 4 long lonely years he's finally gotten his name cleared and has gotten an apology from the Nebulous Yard#but. its not like he can go back. Its not like hes going to pretend that none of those years ever happened#he cant forget that ostracization. the alienation. the demonization. The Izations#the wounds of being left behind cannot heal just yet. and thats okay#and its just. What really is al's legacy. He doesnt fight a big robot or save the world. He fought trauma. He fought suppression. And he won#and you KNOOOWWWW my babygirl is a workaholic. you know he stays at the office because its better than being surrounded by reminders at home#AND. LASTY.... dawn is a recurring motif in the laytonverse. dawn symbolizes the end. it symbolizes new beginnings and rebirth yadda yadda#lastly* good lord#so i reallt wanted to capture that feelinf of like. Back on my bullshit with another swap au
Details below!
Layton gets the crown sometime after the experiment happens, he finds it on an expedition and puts it on out of curiosity. (I don't know what his title could be lmao) And like Simon, goes insane from wearing it.
But he's kind of like a mix of Ice King and Winter King (minus WK's selfish personality) more Ice King but British Gentleman in the mix is what I'm trying to go for with him.
Luke takes Marceline's place and gets found by Layton in the ruins of London. He is gifted a Teddy Bear. (I guess Clive could also be there too?) And is cared for until Layton can't stay in control and leaves in fear. He doesn't do the Princess thing like Ice King but he IS searching for Claire, and it's for closure more or less and everyone he finds and takes, none of them are her. But instead of setting them free, they stay in the Ice Kingdom like a massive prison. Mad ruler or scientist vibes or something??
He can't remember what she entirely looked having forgotten her face long ago. Meeting Flora for the first time in this messes him up for a moment. When he sees Luke again he can't even remember him, but knows they have a connection. He only recognizes Luke from the fact that he's popular with his puzzle-solving skills. Like "Remember You" Luke learns to accept this and forgives him for having to leave. He still calls him Professor and occasionally switches to Hershel. Which he has no memory of and assumes it's an odd nickname.
Clark isn't like Hudson but their relationship is much like how it is in Last Spectre. A misunderstanding rather than being evil and stealing souls.
Instead of what happens in canon, the time machine worked too well and sent her 1,000 years into the future. And doing what Betty does in trying to help him like how she tried to help Simon. Eventually becoming Golb in the end. Even after toying with the idea of accepting that Layton won't ever be back.
Flora is Finn in this and she grew up lonely. She had her robot family but she wanted to see the outside feel the ground on her hands and share her creations with others. She was allowed once she proved she could handle the outside when a monster had attacked the village. And she set out into the world and set up a shop for her robots. And loves to explore and go adventuring. Helping others making a certain Ice Wizard leave people alone and freeing those who got kidnapped. Flora meets Luke when she finds her apples are being drained of color. Picked from the trees and left on the ground. She caught him and he promptly apologized. They reached an agreement about it though and grew close. Siblings frfr. And Luke gives her advice when she needs it.
(Luke took the older sibling role this time)
That's kinda it for now
I hope to draw more of the sillies

Random update on the transcription of the Eternal Diva novel, aka probably the one that most people don't even care about that much to begin with
(though you should, I haven't translated it yet but I spotted a few words here and there that caught my attention such as Luke mentioning Misthallery multiple times. Also there is in the introduction a novel-exclusive scene with Janice in it, just fyi.)
To those who didn't know, most of my free time as of lately has been put into the transcription/translation website I have dedicated to the Japan-exclusive Layton content that we never got to see, and more specifically I have been transcribing the Eternal Diva novel. Because yes, now you know, Eternal Diva was adapted into a novel and none of us non-Japanese fans got to read it. And boy this novel is going to drive me insane because I have been working on it for literal weeks by now.
In terms of progress, I have reached the part of the story in which Puzzle 004 is about to start, aka right after the end of the "Layton McGuffinned a helicopter that thinks it's a grasshopper" part. I have transcribed up to page 119 (+ the ending is already transcribed and translated because past me felt like it), and there are now 74 blank pages left for me to fill. And then the translation will come, too. I am totally looking forward to it. Can you feel the enthusiasm in my exciting punctuation.
This is the shortest novel of the list (200 pages if I count the blank ones), and this is the only novel that has furigana everywhere (aka the only one of the four I can actually read somewhat properly). Yippeeeee
Anyway if you want to take a look even though only the beginning and the end are translated for the time being:
You can take a looksie right here!
The reason why I'm going through the entire transcription first and that the full translation will only come afterwards is because, at least in my opinion if I were to view this as a reader instead of as the person uploading the content, this means that you guys get to know the story faster than if I progressed through both the transcription and translation at the same time.
After all, let's see it like this: sure, you can't read Japanese, and for the most part, neither can I. But since it's been transcribed, it means that you can easily copy-paste the Japanese text into DeepL, or Google Translate, or any translator of your choice. Sure, it's more work for you and if you are of the lazy kind you will still have to wait the same amount of time regardless (not saying it in a derogatory way), but at least it gives the choice for the ones who want the whole story to get it somewhat faster.
I don't speak Japanese, and I am not translating things as I go, so I have only a vague understanding of what is going on in the novel (and obviously, the fact that I know the plot of the movie is a huge help). But I can already tell you this much:
We get the lyrics for the ending's song, obviously. This is part of what has been translated so far.
The whole novel is not divided into chapters, but rather into smaller scenes/sections (however you want to call it). Some are narrated by Luke, some others are narrated by Janice (and/or Melina, I guess it depends on the context). Just like the three main novels you may be slightly more familiar with, the narration is in first person.
Since the only narrators who showed up so far are Luke and Janice/Melina, I don't think the scenes from Emmy's POV will be included (aka the one in which she questions Nina's parents, the one in which she is with Schrader, and the one in which she finds and rescues Grosky in the middle of the ocean). Perhaps they are going to appear later in the novel, but I highly doubt it for a number of reasons (number of pages in each section, and titles of said sections).
The novel starts with an exclusive scene under the POV of Janice. It takes place three years after the case, and she is just finished singing for the last rehearsal before the opera she will play in the day after — it is The Eternal Kingdom, which she has not sung in three years, and the next day will be the second time ever this opera will be sung in a theatre with a public. Of course, no eternal life game planned this time. Janice also gets a letter of encouragement from Whistler, which is pretty sweet.
Unless I missed it and it somehow happens in the part I did not yet translate, the intro of the movie in which Luke and Layton solve the case where Don Paolo decided to mess with the bells of Big Ben is not at all mentioned in the novel. Luke in the novel doesn't give the introduction-narration speech that he does in the movie, we jump straight into the scene in which he is shown in Layton's office pretending to be pointing at culprits (and we get a fun little scene showing what led up to him doing it). Go read it, it is translated, and I do not want to spoil for you the opportunity to read Luke being a dork all over again.
We switch to the flashback telling the actual events, and this is the part that has no translation yet. I won't give many details as a result since I don't know the things for sure myself, but as I said earlier, I saw a few words that I recognised here and there: notably, Luke mentions Misthallery on at least two occasions. If memory serves, one of them is when Grosky shows up to "arrest" the puppet, and I think Luke went on a small tangent to give a small summary of the events of Last Specter (aka how he met Grosky), and also mentions Descole (though he does not give his name, since I'm pretty sure that he didn't hear the words "My name is Jean Descole" at the time, and only learned that precisely upon meeting him again in ED). On another time he mentions it, from what I vaguely understood he may be making a reference to Naiya, Janice/Melina's friend who can be found in Misthallery and who is also a singer (she's the NPC who is meant to represent the singer of Paxmaveiti, just like Yuming is meant to represent the singer of Mysterious Flower in Miracle Mask). Pretty inconsequential, but it's always fun to have continuity nods and references to the actual plot of other stories.
Finally, back to three years later, we get an epilogue narrated by Luke which is the exact same scene as the movie: Layton and Luke are listening to Janice's opera, and at some point Janice shows up to say hi. Luke also mentions what happened to the rest of the participants after the case throughout those three years; most are just what we see from the credits, but the novel still gives a few more details in some cases:
By the time of the original trilogy, Amelia is studying abroad at a foreign university, and she recently sent a letter to Layton and Luke, saying that she is grateful even after three years.
Luke is friends with Nina, who comes by at Gressenheller every now and then, and he even considers her a rival of sorts due to Nina having a good memory and studying well. (also what the heck Luke why are you talking about getting to college and how you're worried that she may be admitted to college before you do, you're THIRTEEN)
Celia Raidley and Pierre Starbuck got married "just the other day" (yes, the ship is now officially confirmed beyond just the one image from the movie credits) and the tabloids are going wild over it.
Luke is reading Annie Dretche's latest mystery novel, and he can't put it down. Annie apparently told him that she has been writing faster so that Bargland (the guy who said he did not have much time left due to an illness) can read them at the hospital. Seems like "six months" turned into three years after all, good for him!
Anyway, that's all I have to say for now, I hope you enjoyed the rambling. I hope this will reach some fans of the movie who would be excited to get a few more details!

Alright you know what I can't stop thinking about that last ask, so I'm just going to share my favorite French UF funfacts and then call it a night lol. They aren't like crazy stuff but I like them (or not, but that's kind of the point snfdfjn) <3 I must first say that French Unwound Future is REALLY close to the English version. Names are identical (The only name change I know of is the blonde guy from Pandora's Box I think, because I haven't seen anyone here call him Vlad) and so are plot points : the only thing really different is the dialogs !!
SO !!!! Small list of my favorite (or not.) changes in the French version !!
Layton :
NO ONE agrees on how to pronounce his name :') Typically in French it would be "Léton" (English = Laytonne), but since le Destin Perdu is very influenced by English… Oof lol. Team Laytonne = Layton, Don Paolo; Team Létonne = Luke, Clive, Dimitri. FIGHT
On a very related note, French version kept "gentleman" :o Although gentleman can be used in French, the word "gentilhomme" also exists. I think this is because gentleman refers more to a way of life but that could be me. Anyway NONE of them knows how to pronounce it 😭😭 "Geantleumanne"/"geanteulmanne" kbejvyd
"Puzzles" become "énigmes" (riddles). Cela me rappelle une énigme…
Layton and Don Paolo share the same voice actor, voice acting veteran Martial le Minoux. I love his work honestly, nothing more to say except that he is a perfect fit. 10/10
Luke !
He is SO weirdly rude in French- like he is insulting people but with formal old school words ?? "You're a real piece of work" becomes "Vous n'êtes qu'un vaurien" (You're a scoundrel/good for nothing). At the casino instead of saying "We gave them a taste of their own medicine" he goes "Quelle bande de poltrons" (What a group of cowards, but like coward said by a 1940s grandpa lol). Why so much hatred in your heart boy-
He has the less dialog changes so there isn't much else to say :/
He and Flora share a voice ! It suits Luke very well (energetic and passionate), although I think the English one is better. 8/10
Flora :
She sounds less confident in French :( More "frail Victorian orphan who has every disease", which may sound fun but. Yeah. 7/10
She does roast people like a queen 👌 "That was quite ill-mannered of him. Still that was an awful thing he did, right Professor ?" becomes "Quelle brute mal élevée ! Mais ce qu'il a fait est vraiment affreux. Je mérite des excuses, non, Professeur ?" (What a rude bully ! Still what he did was really terrible. I deserve an apology, don't I Professor ?) Like she KNOWS he's in the wrong and she is getting that apology kdjvdkx
Also works with getting left behind !!! "What am I supposed to do ? Sit here like a lemon and wait ?" -> "Qu'est-ce-que je suis censée faire quand vous m'abandonnez ? Compter les mouches ? Comme c'est amusant. Et quand je dis amusant, je veux dire pas amusant du tout !" (What am I supposed to do when you leave me behind ? Count flies ? How fun ! And by fun, I mean no fun at all !)
Why is everyone so fed up in French lol
Clive : (Sorry I KNOW he is the longest but also this is a Clive blog. Don't be surprised about me obsessing over his dialogs lol)
French version doesn't call him "Future Luke" but "Adult Luke", which is very funny because you know they felt the need to tell people "This guy isn't a 16 YO" njekfzb
He has the most changes in dialog, and some of these changes are freaking brutal lol
For example, he doesn't say "Please, make yourselves comfortable. Sit back and relax. After all, you won't be leaving any time soon". (You don't like that but you can't stop me). Instead, he says "Allons, mettez-vous donc à l'aise. Ouvrez grand les yeux. Après tout, le spectacle promet d'être grandiose." (Please, make yourselves comfortable. Keep your eyes wide open. After all, the spectacle is sure to be a grand one) French Clive is a goner, that guy is Robespierre or something
"Though some may call it revenge, I prefer to think of it as justice" -> "Certains parleraient de vengeance, mais il s'agit en réalité de justice" (Some may call it revenge, but it really is justice). Denial is a river in Egypt 👍
It works both ways tho !! Like he doesn't say "I- I see" after Claire tells him that scientists were to blame too. He goes "Je- merci" (I- thank you). My heart is broken
His acting is… not that good. I think this was like, the second role his VA has ever had, and it shows. Overdoing it A LOT. Positive point is that I really like his voice, even though his acting lacks experience. 5/10 would be interested to hear him redo it
There is ONE exception to that tho, and it's the defeat scene- if you had to watch one French Clive scene absolutely go for this one. Overdoing it kind of works in that scene + there is my FAVORITE dialog change. "It can't end that way- it won't end that way" becomes "Je ne peux pas échouer- je ne dois pas échouer" (I cannot fail- I must not fail). Chef's kiss 1000/10 and most definitely the reason why I have a weird obsession with modals in my writing lol
Uuuuh this is getting quite long so I won't put the others. Maybe next time, if there is a next time (I am an undecisive unhelpful person <3). For now I should go to sleep it is 3 in the morning lol

A job you had that would surprise people? not telling :3
Do you think aliens are real? no but also i guess i do but in a way that i dont care much about this question anyway because i dont think any sentient alien species would ever come into contact with humans. i think theres lots of types of bacteria and goobers and stuff on different planets tho :3

TOP TEN GAMES I BEAT THIS YEAR
In 2023, I completed 34 games, from Final Fantasy VII to Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion to PaRappa the Rapper. These are my ten favorite, in order, and a little writeup of each I had a LOT of fun doing. Enjoy!
10. DARK SOULS
Tumblr media
It’s a game I had to want to like, and maybe more than any of the others on the list, I had to meet it halfway. I’m a fan of challenging games, and - stop me if you’ve heard this one before - Dark Souls is pretty hard. But it’s not bullshit. Mostly. I ran into some hard walls here and there, but those walls turned into my favorite fights in the game once I finally mastered them. The reason it’s so low on the list is because the back half is… Well, it’s not very good, folks. Of the four bosses you need to defeat to open the door to the final area, I could call two of them good fights, and I could only do one of those without hesitating.
9. THE CASE OF THE GOLDEN IDOL
Tumblr media
I love a detective game, and what makes Golden Idol really stand out is its incredible format and mechanics. Given a series of still* images, and the contents of a bunch of random people’s pockets, can you determine what happened? It feels cheap to compare games and not just speak about what I enjoyed of a game of its own merits, but I can’t talk about this game without talking about Return of the Obra Dinn, which had a similar sort of ‘fill in the blank’ approach to its mysteries. Golden Idol’s supernatural elements, twists and reveals, and charmingly off-putting art style lend themselves well to one of the most unique games I played this year.
8. SIFU
Tumblr media
This is the best rhythm game I played this year. Finding the flow of Sifu’s combat felt like a dance, going from a steady beat to a frenetic scramble in the span of a single missed step. I’ve never hidden the fact that I’m a massive sucker for good movement in games, and Sifu’s jives extraordinarily well with its combat and environments. Really, the only problem I had with Sifu was that it felt a bit short - well, and it didn’t quite deliver the challenge I was looking for, but that’s the fault of whoever described it to me as a Soulslike first just because it has, like… a revival mechanic? Also, the first time it transitioned to a side view for a hallway fight, it basically secured a spot on this list.
7. GHOST TRICK
Tumblr media
I tried to play through this game in high school, but got stalled out on some puzzle or another. I honestly don’t remember which, but I’m SO glad I came back to it. I’ve always loved Shu Takumi’s writing and character work in the Ace Attorney series; Ghost Trick is just as good, if not better than any individual AA game in that regard. Really, the characters feel like the ones in the AA spinoffs like Investigations, Great Ace Attorney, or the Layton crossover, which are some of the best characters in the series - but with none of the self-defeating energy of having to be largely unimportant to the mainline games. Also, Missile might be the greatest character in video games ever.
6. PARADISE KILLER
Tumblr media
Some games make you fervently pitch their merits to friends, hoping that they’ll play it so you can chat with someone who gets it. This is the fate of many detective games, which live and die in the territory of spoilers. There are detective games that try to get around this by having procedurally generated cases or multiple endings with multiple ‘real’ culprits, which can often be antithetical to what makes a detective game truly sing. Paradise Killer’s answer is that not only is it never going to tell you what the truth is, but that ambiguity is the point. The clues never change, and the only objective is to find a truth that satisfies you. All that is made even better by the premise being steeped in synths and neon, with a vibrantly occult cast who are all just the absolute fucking worst.
5. TEARS OF THE KINGDOM
Tumblr media
I mean, come on. It’s Tears of the Kingdom. While I’d really hoped for playable Zelda, what we did get of the character was far more moving than whatever her deal usually is. The chasm was an incredible surprise, and since Skyward Sword is one of my favorite Zelda games, I had a ton of fun with the skydive mechanics. There’s also the building system, which managed the near impossible feat of having things control basically how you’d expect them to once you slapped a steering wheel on them. It felt like there was just so much love for the previous games in the series, without being overly reliant on them. If I had to pick a favorite moment in the game, it would have to be during the Wind Temple’s boss fight, when the Dragon Roost Island theme from Wind Waker cut through the track and made me feel like I could have taken on Ganondorf with a tree branch in that moment.
4. PERSONA 5 ROYAL/PERSONA 5 STRIKERS/PERSONA Q2
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is this cheating? Yes. But hear me out. I knew Royal was going to be on the list, and then it turned out that I liked Strikers and Q2 as much, if not more than Royal. While Royal has higher highs, it also has much lower lows - Strikers and Q2 don’t engage in nearly as much of the weak parts of Royal. But they also don’t function even a little bit without it. Strikers dragged in the gameplay department a little bit, but I loved being able to play as every Phantom Thief - and Q2 was such a vast improvement over Q1 in pretty much every department. So my number four spot on my top ten games of the year is ‘every game I played this year that has Akira Kurusu in it.’ So, since I started Tactica, maybe that counts too… and if you want to be technical, I think I played a few rounds of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in June, so I guess that has the number four spot too.
3. ARMORED CORE 6
Tumblr media
In 2023, I really and truly entered my mech era. I built Gunpla this year, I started playing in a really fun new Lancer campaign, and I played the shit out of Armored Core 6. I’d never played one before, but I was hooked from the tutorial boss alone. I beat the game once and, at the advice of a few friends, started a new game plus run - and before I knew it, I’d already beaten it again. I’ll do a third run too, at some point. Once I learned the all-consuming power of the pile bunker, I was out there decimating the arena foes like nothing else - and, once I figured out how to time out my missile strikes, I managed to slam through 75% of the final boss’ health in a single blow. That was the single most satisfying hit of this year across any game. Oh, and - keep an eye out, because I have a hankering to write some Maeterlinck-focused fic at some point. Because I sure do love me my one-off characters.
2. SCARLET NEXUS
Tumblr media
Up until the final entry swung through and claimed the top spot, Scarlet Nexus seemed like a complete and total shoo-in for number one. Very few games have ever motivated me to complete them to the degree I did this one, including getting all Steam achievements and a ton of the optional content in game you don’t need for that. Kasane and Yuito are endearing protagonists with cool powers, genuine flaws, and vastly different outlooks. There were some plot threads from chapter one I thought had been dropped, but as it turns out they were only really dropped in Kasane’s story, and were far more focused on in Yuito’s, while he didn’t engage with most of her whole deal until the endgame. She spends most of her story dealing with causality and time travel, and he doesn’t even know time travel is a thing at all until there’s maybe 25% of the game left. And at the end, it still manages to feel complete coming from either side. The supporting cast is extremely strong, too, and the way powers flow together make the fights feel dynamic, fun, and tie to the themes of combining disparate people to make things better for everyone - to stop holding onto the past and strive for a better future, no matter how much work it takes.
1. 13 SENTINELS: AEGIS RIM
Tumblr media
You should play this game. There’s no two ways about it. It’s a severely underrated title with incredible art, writing, gameplay, voice acting - 13 Sentinels fires on all cylinders. It’s half visual novel walkarounds with the occasional puzzle, exploring the individual stories of the thirteen protagonists across a variety of genres. One character is doing 80s high school movie hijinks with his exposition-loving best friend, while another is trying to solve the disappearance of her best friend. Said best friend is engaging in escapades with a small alien just like her favorite UFO movies, and a fourth guy entirely is doing Blade Runner shit. At one point, there’s a character who has appeared fairly infrequently and finally becomes available to play, and when he appears on the select screen, he’s standing in front of a sea of flames while the other characters typically appear in front of schoolrooms, city streets, their own homes. The emotional beat when you click through and hear him start talking about how he’s proud to be enlisting as a Japanese soldier in 1944 is one of the strongest in the game. Each story weaves around another and provides further depth to events you’ve already seen, while the entire chronological story is combined into a single timeline of events you’re free to look at whenever. But then, on the other side of the game from the character stories, you have the fights - or, rather, the fight. Because the combat side of things all takes place within  pretty much a single day - a grueling, nonstop battle where the characters must drive away wave after wave after wave of invaders without letting even a single one through. Each has their own mechs and certain special abilities that gear them for different scenarios, and if you want to experience everything, you have to bounce back and forth between the stories and the fighting, constantly unlocking aspects of the other. The biggest problem with the game is just choice paralysis - there’s so much to do, it’s hard to know where to start. But once you’re able to bite into it, chipping away at the Gordian plot rewards you with a deeply moving story about the plight of a generation thrust into a ceaseless strife, burdened by the heavy expectations of their predecessors to finally solve it and the even heavier feeling that there just are no answers to find in the first place. And also, there are sick as fuck giant mechs. I told you I was in my mech era this year.

alright everybody you know what time it is
time for me to once again over-analyze concept art thats in 120p except this time its in 240p!! wow!! what an upgrade... (jk)
none of these have names so im just going to make them up
another shot of the city, nothing too remarkable here besides the fact that i read "ASADA" as "Stadia" somehow and thought it was Google Stadia product placement
Tumblr media
2. confirmation that this game takes place in America, which is cool. I thought they were going to be British due to two of the main characters being named after British universites (and also the fact that its a spiritual Layton successor) but nah, its American due to that sign in the background.
Tumblr media
3. I'm obsessed with the colors in this image, it looks so cool. Though i do find it incredibly funny that if you zoom in on that motel sign it very clearly says "TV" as if thats a selling point of staying there. Isn't this a futuristic society??? i can't-
Tumblr media
4. Level-5. you bastards. i never even CONSIDERED the fact that "cyberpunk western" was an aesthetic. im OBSESSED.
Tumblr media
5. another city shot, nothing too remarkable. although the architecture reminds me alot of Katrielle and the Millionare's Conspiracy so thats cool :3 (shoutout the whole two people who thought that game was good actually. im one of them)
Tumblr media
6. OK I KNEW I WASNT GOING CRAZY. i could've sworn there was concept art of a suburb in one of the other trailers and yes!! there was!! im in love w/ the fact that theres a suburb to explore in a cyberpunk game. the cyberpunk suburb aesthetic is criminally (ha) under-utilized
Tumblr media
7. nothing too special here other than the fact that it reminds me of the train station area in Master Detective Archives: RainCode. even though that area in that game was virtually (ha) useless, it was still a cool area to explore so i hope this is much the same.
Tumblr media
8. A CYBERPUNK PIER??? FUCK YEAH??? also gramatically incorrect taco restaurant????? (im pretty sure theres a 'Los' missing there)
Tumblr media
9. WHALE. BUILDING.
Tumblr media
game of the year everyone pack up and go home they've got us beat

tag game to better know you
Ty @new-anon for tagging me! What else to do on a cold Monday morning public holiday then fill out a questionnaire about myself 🤔
What book are you currently reading?
The Wright Brothers by David McCullough Definitely has nothing to do with the fact that we can see this book on Ice's shelf next to the photo of him and Mav shaking hands after rescuing the USS Layton...
What’s your favourite movie you saw in theatres this year?
I have only seen the new Spiderman (literally 2 days ago) so I guess that! I think it was pretty good, but tbh I liked the first one more.
What do you usually wear?
Pokemon or bird themed t-shirt paired with shorts or my high school gym trackies if it's cold. I have one green overcoat that I wear pretty much any time I need a jacket, it is very versatile in what weather it can be worn in.
How tall are you?
170cm, that's 5 foot 6 inches to those USAmericans in the audience (had to google that...)
What’s your star sign? Do you share a birthday with a celebrity or a historical event?
I don't know any celebrities off the top of my head that I share a birthday with, and the only historical event I connect immediately with my birthday is a bad one lmao. Though it happened in the 1920s, so mostly only relevant when I was studying history in high school...
Do you go by your name or a nickname?
Serie! Fun fact, I made this name up on the spot randomly when playing Facebook games as an 11 year old and the RPG ones wanted me to input a name. I have been stuck with it ever since.
Did you grow up to become what you wanted to be when you were a child?
My current job didn't even exist when I was a child, so, no!
Are you in a relationship? If not, who is your crush if you have one?
No relationship, and I have not had a crush since high school pff
What’s something you’re good at vs. something you’re bad at?
Good at procrastinating, bad at resisting the lure of more wips 🙏 this makes for a wild combination haha
Dogs or cats?
Probably cats, but I am allergic to cats and dogs (and most fluffy creatures) so I don't have any pets :(
If you draw/write, or create in any way, what’s your favourite picture/favourite line/favourite etc. from something you created this year?
Probably my favourite things that I've posted this year was Dawn and well. haha. (nuts) because they were both very self-indulgent in a way that I always enjoy writing with codywan, though for very very different reasons.
What’s something you’d like to create content for?
I want to write more Aloy femslash!! I've written so much for her, but none really with the characters from the new game, and now with a canon femslash kiss under her belt, I think she deserves to be a wlw icon. Next year for femslash February I'm thinking of trying to organise a Horizon event to get some momentum not just for me but for others to create too
What’s something you’re currently obsessed with?
Val Kilmer's jaw.........
What’s something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?
I can maybe half say the Horizon: Forbidden West DLC - I liked the overarching plot well enough, and they gave Aloy a lesbian kiss so I'm not too mad, but it carried over almost all of the issues from production that the base game had, which I was keen to see fixed in the DLC. That and the lack of backstory for Seyka or the Quen, the lack of side quests and the lack of interesting stuff to do in the wilds of the DLC made it a bit of a mediocre experience for me (though after HFW I wasn't expecting anything too good anyway).
What’s a hidden talent of yours?
Not sure if it's hidden, but I'm particularly good at spotting double spaces in a document. Pisses me off (it's my editor brain going haywire... my team is always making fun of me for this at work lmao)
Are you religious?
Nope!
What’s something you wish to have at this moment?
Someone to make me breakfast </3 alas after I post this I will simply have to do it myself
Tags?
@elwenyere @tragediegh @playablekairi @cillyscribbles if you like! No pressure ofc

Ask Meme
I got tagged by the lovely @jalapenobee!! Thank you!! <3
Do you make your bed?
I neatly fold the cover open during the day so it can air out a bit? xD But when I go to bed, I always pull the mattress cover (whatever that's called in English) neatly because it often crumples up. But I don't daily make my bed, no.
What's your favorite number?
Not really.
What is your job?
I've worked at a local library for a little over a year now! It's really fun to do! I have to take care of the adult non-fiction section, which is more fun than I would've thought, as well as admin and helping people during opening hours. Right now, a colleague has been absent for 6+ months, so I've been taking on her section as well, which is youth (fiction and non-fiction) and comics. So quite a lot at the moment. But it's a really fun job!!
If you could go back to school, would you?
I'm not sure... I didn't hate going to school and it was actually a lot less stressful than adult life. I think I'd mainly go back to be my younger self again and maybe do things differently?
Or are we talking about going back to school at this age? If school was the only thing I'd have to focus on, and money and all didn't matter, I think so, yeah! Probably something creative or art history or something.
Can you parallel park?
I can.... But it's either perfect on the first try or I have to retry like 5 times. And if there's a car waiting while I'm failing... Yeah, we're going around the block again and try again afterwards.
A job you had that would surprise people?
I think my previous job. I worked in retail as a Saturday job during college. After graduation, I worked at a company for two years but I quit because it wasn't my thing and was lucky that the store I used to work at was looking for someone. I really liked working there and there was a lot of varied work (admin, window dressing, helping clients,...). But I feel like people at my current job (library) are surprised when I tell them I worked retail? I don't get it, though.
Do you think aliens are real?
Hmmmm... I don't think aliens like the stereotypical aliens exist, but there's no way the universe is this gigantic and Earth is the only place with life.
Can you drive a manual car?
It's the only kind I know how to drive. I've never driven an automatic car. I actually love shifting gears. It gives me something to do while driving, if that makes sense xD
What's your guilty pleasure?
Uhm... I don't think I have one? At least not something that no one else does? Nothing special comes to mind atm...
Tattoos?
None. I just have no idea what I'd want to have permanently on my body. So I doubt I'll ever get one.
Favorite Color?
Blue! All kinds of blue! But I really like a minty-blue, like this.
Tumblr media
But lately, I've come to love yellow as well. I'm not sure why, but it's been making me happy for some reason.
Favorite type of music?
In general I either like a song or I don't like it. And because of this, my taste in music can vary a lot. I can like certain songs by a certain artist, yet despise the rest of their music.
As for favourite artists, I love Taylor Swift, The Script and Niall Horan. I think those are my top three artists (she says without any actual proof of it).
Do you like puzzles?
Like, riddles or jigsaws? If it's jigsaws, I haven't made one in years! I'd love to, with some music or tv show in the background, but I don't have the time for it. If it's riddles, yeah, I love riddles! Doesn't mean I'm good at them but I played my fair share of Professor Layton growing up!
Any phobias?
None that I know of. Like, I'm not a fan of creepy bugs and heights and blood and all those typical things, but I wouldn't call them phobias. Like, I'm not a fan of spiders, but I'd never kill one and just put it in a jar and take it outside. So nothing I'm insanely scared of.
Favorite childhood sport?
I don't think I had a favourite sport growing up? I'm not really the most athletic person. But I do know that I was decent at shooting basketballs into the hoop, even for being short lol
Do you talk to yourself?
... Do people not do this? I do this all the time??
What movie(s) do you adore?
I'm not sure if I have an actual favourite movie, but I love Tangled and The Lion King!! I also really love Back To The Future. *looks at dvds* OH! The Holiday and Love, Rosie as well!! I think these are all films I'm always down to watch.
Coffee or tea?
I'm definitely more of a tea person. I most often drink black tea with milk (like, at breakfast, in the evening and when I'm not at work, in the afternoon as well).
I also drink coffee but when I do, I have to have it with milk and sugar and often with some sort of syrup (vanilla, hazelnut or caramel). Or iced! Iced coffee!!
First thing you wanted to be when growing up?
I think I wanted to become a farmer? At least that's what my mum told me. I can't imagine being a farmer now, I think kid me thought it would be fun to have a bunch of animals and be outside all day. Grown up me knows it's very different from that. And very often not that nice for the animals...
Also a veterinarian! But.... Y'know, blood and cutting into animals... Pass.
I'm going to tag a couple of mutuals and followers I very often see in my notes, but obviously anyone who wants to do this, can!
And don't feel obligated to do this just because I tagged you! <3

Alfie's End of Year Rec List 2024
Out of 447,090 words and 141 total fics, this year I wrote a whole 224k and 78 fics, which is a lot more than last year. I wrote for 10 different ships this year, including 3 new ones. Yay for progress, I guess.
Anyway, to celebrate a rather productive year here at the_oncoming_stormageddon's AO3 dashboard, I've decided to compile a list of all of my favorite fics that I would reccommend :D number three will shock you!
In a shocking turn of events, I lied, sorry. This is about my graphs. It's always about my graphs. All graphs are up to date as of 12/21/2023, and there isn't even a missing word somewhere that has to be accounted for!
(Did I type all of this up, realize I had another fic to post, and then have to go back in and fix everything? ...perhaps)
Anyway. Let's start with Taylor Swift.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As always, "Other" corresponds to fics with titles from other artists, "Non-Album" refers to titles from Taylor Swift songs that aren't on an album or are unreleased, and "None" refers to titles that weren't from any lyrics. Orville Peck and Maisie Peter were the big contributors to the "other" category this year. The second graph shows the percent of the number of fics, while the first graph is the combined word count. Also, I did have 1 fic with an If This Was a Movie title, and I categorized it under "Speak Now TV" instead of Fearless TV. Yell at me about it in the comments if you really care, since it's technically incorrect.
Last year, I had a big Fearless slice because of the Hey Stephen series, and it was kind of surprising to me to see how much I slowed down in doing those, with Fearless only having 4 fics to its name. The disparity between the number and word count of the evermore was a little odd to me, until I realized that my longest fic ever (Tuesday Night at Olive Garden, a destiel murder mystery) was named after an evermore song. One thing that did not surprise me was folklore only having 1 fic, because that is my least favorite album.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So...the destiel thing...
The SPN hyperfixation took hold of me in Feb/March of this year and has not let go yet. Looking at my all-time graphs (where its about 33%/40% destiel/solangelo for word count), I didn't think it was that bad, but plugging in the numbers for just this year...uh, yeah. It's that bad. Sorry.
Tumblr media
I had a really strong streak of posting solangelo every month until March hit. Again, destiel hyperfixation in visual form. This year, I wrote lokius (L/MMM, from the show Loki) and sterek (DH/SS, from the show Teen Wolf) for the first time. I also posted destiel (C/DW) for the first time (the bad destiel fics of middle school alfie are staying in locked docs where they belong).
As expected, I had a bit of a drop-off in the summer months, but it was surprising for me to see that it never went back up after school started again. Last year, I had a huge spike in September, October, and December, but this year stayed relatively mellow. Next year, I'd really like to see which trend I follow monthly.
Anyway, that's the end of the graphs I have prepared for you (I will spare yall from the more complicated ones). Next year, I'd really like to start finishing up some of the unresolved fics and series I have (mostly solangelo ones that got drowned in the destiel flood). I'm doing my first ever big bang (for the Professor Layton fandom), so katriana (KL/EP) will make it onto my graphs for next year, as will destiel and solangelo.
Thanks for reading & I hope you enjoyed :D congrats on making it to 2024!

17, 22, and 35 if you please
17. Do you have any headcanons? If yes, what?
I have many, actually! Pick your favourite:
Let's start with the obvious: none of these characters are straight. Specifically, Clive is demi and Emmy is pan.
Emmy's parents are both from Peru, with her mum being of Japanese descent. Her dad was an archeologist conducting research on Inca sites, and whose work eventually landed him on Targent's radar.
Clive's dad was an engineer; his mother worked for the National Gallery and restored paintings for a living. She spent a couple of years in France during her studies and fell in love with the culture.
People assume Clive's impressive artistic knowledge and fluency in French come from his posh education; he doesn't correct them.
Clive's first fictional crush was Emma Peel from The Avengers. If you know, you know.
Clive's current fictional crush is Edelgard von Hresvelg from FE3H. Again, if you know, you know.
Clive is very particular about his apparence and would never be caught dead in anything other than a suit. Paradoxically, he doesn't make much of an effort to hide the burn scar on his forehead, as it is a reminder of his growth throughout the years.
After his release, Clive becomes Hershel's assistant as part of his plan to atone for his crimes. He quickly realises that the Professor needs the company as much as he does, and finds himself in an unexpected rivalry with Emmy, who just came back to London and doesn't appreciate a terrorist hanging out with her friend and stealing her job.
Of course, Clive and Emmy end up getting married, and Clive becomes a stay-at-home dad to their children (both loosely named after important people in their lives), while still helping out Hershel regularly.
There's many more than I could possibly fit in this post, but rest assured that I WILL rant about them on this blog.
22. Do you have any merchandise? If yes, what? If no, would you like any? What would you get?
I don't have any official goodies, but I was able to buy a few trinkets from artists at conventions including some badges I had planned on bringing back with me but left at home again !
It's not much, because the offer is quite limited compared to other fandoms - but I do have the aforementioned badges, some nice posters, and a lovely mug with a spelling error in which I keep my pens. I'll try to post some pictures when I get the chance!
35. What Layton meme did you enjoy the most (Clive and the snails? Desmond’s bread hair?) ?
So here's the thing: after years of writing Clive and developing an entire universe around him, he has taken on many of my likes and dislikes. One irreconciliable difference between him and me, though, is the snail bit.
I cannot begin to tell you how much I loved snails as a child - my grandparents even let me keep a "snail farm" (basically, a big tank with plenty of food and humidity) in their garden when I would come visit. And, for some reason, I find it hilarious that my favourite character of all times hates them with a passion.
The fact that Emmy shares this hatred of gastropods makes it even better. Both of their kids LOVE snails, of course.
("Descole, you pompous *ss. You haven't masterminded sh*t" is also an unbeatable classic.)

In all the fun we're having voting on whatever that other poll was about, I shouldn't forget to update the losers' bracket.
Goto's Girlfriend and Lysanderoth have been eliminated in the same round, which I guess has an infuriating sort of poetry to it?
The round 3 match-ups were giving me déjà vu, and I had to check that none of these characters had faced off before. But no, in fact, it's just an incredible coincidence that all of the winners are from the right side of the tournament, resulting in this weird alternate universe to the winner's bracket.
Losers Round 3:
[REDACTED] from Persona 5 vs. [REDACTED] from The Adventure Zone: Balance
[REDACTED] from The Great Ace Attorney vs. [REDACTED] from The Locked Tomb
[REDACTED] from Detective Conan vs. [REDACTED] from Danganronpa
[REDACTED] from Gravity Falls vs. [REDACTED] from Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
Back tomorrow!

FE Engage thoughts, pre Chapter 7
All miscellany. Be civil about spoilers please.
First and foremost, I just realised that while we have Emblems, we haven't established what the Fire Emblem is yet. Possible guesses:
the ring that Alear's mother almost certainly converted to an Emblem of Emblems before dying
...yeah that's all I've got so far. We get Marth first, none of the other Lords are Fire enough afaik.
I've posted elsewhere about how the animal collecting is so adorably feral of Alear. Dragon in their natural habitat autistically collecting as many chickens as they can get their hands on, sure!
Other thoughts:
Jean's parents are called Anje and Sean. This is funny to me.
...and they all speak like Professor Layton aka "what Studio Ghibli thinks quaint British villagefolk sound like"
I'm *assuming* Yunaka has a tragic backstory which explains why she masks so hard.
Alfred Boucheron C support adorable; A support had better be gay af
Etie trains with weighted teacups omfg
I'm so gay for Chloé
Yunaka's hair is peak character design and @love-ya-ning agrees.
Also *wow* Laura Post has range, and this character makes full use of it. Her crit quotes are silky smooth <3
The way the units and the Emblems stare at each other in the support and bond and etc. character selection screens — so romantic, so much queer energy
