The "King of Bugs" which governs all Insect Digimon. Its stronghold, the "Under Forest", exists deep underneath the darkest forest, and it is said that it only moves at night. It is able to manipulate every Insect Digimon at will, so it almost never fights in person. Due to the high density Chrome Digizoid which compose its shell, it is thought to be impossible for ordinary Digimon to even scratch it. The red-hot explosion {attack} which it emits from its entire body (Shine of Bee) is impossible to defend against, and instantly reduces all of its opponents to ash. Also, its "Bee Cyclone" summons all of its insect followers, to construct an impenetrable wall of bugs.

A common misconception about tri I want to address

I do find it strange whenever I see digimon fans complain about the public forgetting about the events of odaiba in tri and claiming it’s a continuity error purely because they never actually forgot about said events in the first place. As shown by these screenshots of the newswoman literally stating that greymon has appeared multiple times in the past after the greymon vs kuwagamon fight (I should note I got these screenshots from animebinge which steals official subtitles from crunchyroll purely because it’s impossible to screenshot that streaming service).

The only real reason I can think of as to why someone would think the digimon fanbase would think this way is because they misinterpreted this line of dialogue (and one or two others) as meaning the public did forget rather than the much more likely meaning that the public still knows about digimon… it’s just that they still don’t know where they come from and also don’t know that digimon are called digimon (remember, the international chosen children aren’t public knowledge in the events of 02 and tri).

Honestly a part of me does blame the tri abridged series for making a joke about the public forgetting and random youtubers spreading this misconception but I highly doubt these people were doing so intentionally. I know at the end of the day what said abridged series did was just a harmless joke and even I think I might be taking this too seriously and this is just random guess work on my end. But at the same time there is a reason why the saying “it’s funny because it’s true” exists. Because when a joke is reliant on an objective truth to be funny and then it turns out said truth is objectively wrong than it stops being funny. I know not all jokes are like this and some are funny because of how incorrect they are but at this point you should already know what I mean. I just wanted to clear up a misconception about tri and why I believe said criticism doesn’t work by bringing up facts, lines of dialogues and their actual meanings, not how certain fans misinterpreted them as.

TLDR: There was no continuity error involving the publics knowledge of digimon in tri in the first place because they never really did forget about them, they just still don’t know where digimon came from and what they are called during the events of tri. Wow this got off topic at the end, apologies if I come across as pretentious.

Anime i’ve Watched

That begin with a D (Part 2)!

Yep this is how i’m going to bring over all the anime and manga i’ve watched and posted about on the old blog. It’s not so detailed but it will have to do. Anything new I watch or read from this point on will have their own posts.

Digimon Adventure tri. 1: Saikai (Digimon Adventure tri. Reunion):

Genres: action, adventure, comedy, film, drama

Synopsis:  The gate to the Digital World has been closed for three years. Taichi Yagami and his friends have since moved on, and now that he is in his second year of high school, it is time for him to grow up. While everyone else knows what they want to do with their lives, Taichi remains unsure. Meanwhile, the group drifts further apart as they follow their own paths. One day, a rogue insectoid Digimon called Kuwagamon materializes and disrupts electronics all over the city. Taichi recklessly chases after it and ends up cornered by the attacking Digimon. Suddenly, the Digivice that he still carries—a digital device that serves various purposes including helping one's Digimon partner to evolve—glows, and Agumon appears. The two are able to defeat Kuwagamon, but why did the Digimon cross over to this world in the first place? What is happening in the Digital World, and how exactly does this involve Meiko Mochizuki, the new transfer student in Taichi's class? [Written by MAL Rewrite]

My Thoughts: Ahhh nostalgia. How bittersweet and not always entirely satisfying. Also.... after watching almost the entire run of Adventure Tri I can’t help but wonder why they released it in film form instead of a series... Let’s not dwell on that too much though. Part one is very much a reunion as the title states. Were introduced to all of the old characters (older now), a few new ones and are quickly thrown into a new adventure. This is just the beginning. 

Digimon Adventure tri. 2: Ketsui (Digimon Adventure tri. Determination):

Genres:action, adventure, comedy, drama, film

Synopsis: Time has passed since Alphamon appeared, and restoration work has moved ahead little by little in the town of Odaiba."I had decided once I got back to Japan, I'd be sure to take a dip in a big bath!" shouts Mimi. Because of that and a desire to make their new members Meiko Mochizuki and Meicoomon feel welcome, the DigiDestined go to a nearby hot springs theme park. Everyone has a good time, but Joe doesn't show up.Joe feels caught between the imminent reality of college entrance exams, and his responsibilities as a DigiDestined."Why do we have to do this again?"Just then, another infected Digimon appears in Odaiba. It's that proud virus type, Ogremon... As a TV station helicopter relays a broadcast of his rampage, Mimi and Palmon spring into action."We'll show people that there are good Digimon, too!"Mimi and Palmon ignore Koushirou's attempts to hold them back, however, and their battle brings about unforeseen consequences...Joe and Mimi each have their own troubles. Then on the day of Tsukishima General High School's festival, that man appears before them...The adventure now evolves once again...

My Thoughts: Better than the first installment but no where near perfect. Perhaps i’m too old to thoroughly enjoy Digimon anymore.... pretty sure it still managed to make me all sorts of emotional though so there’s that. 

Digimon Adventure tri. 3: Kokuhaku (Digimon Adventure tri. Confession):

Genres: action, comedy, adventure, drama, film

Synopsis:  Taichi and friends can't hide how disturbing it was that something suddenly went wrong with Meicoomon, causing her to destroy Leomon and disappear beyond the distortion. "If Meicoomon was infected, I want to find out what caused it. Were there any signs it had happened? And when in the world did it occur?" Faced with a situation beyond imagination, Koushirou struggles to come up with some countermeasure. But with no effective means at his disposal, he ends up grilling Meiko for information. "Please remember. I need information if I'm going to find out what's behind the infection." Meiko hangs her head, unable to offer any answer... Agumon and the others had been quarantined in Koushirou's office to protect against infection, but Patamon starts showing signs of it anyway... At the same time, Agumon and the others are informed via the voice dwelling within Hikari about an important secret concerning the Digital World. "The time... draws near..." Then during the battle against Meicoomon when she shows up again, said "time" arrives. Taichi and friends agonize over the revealed secret. As the feelings of each of them intertwine, they arrive at a certain determination... "If we wait around for 'someday', before you know it we'll find ourselves having grown up." My Thoughts: Each installment is an improvement... or perhaps i’m simply becoming more and more attached to the characters and world. You be the judge. 

Digimon Adventure tri. 4: Soushitsu (Digimon Adventure tri. Loss):

Genres: action, adventure, comedy, drama, film

Synopsis: First there was Meicoomon's rampage, and then the reboot ended up happening. Taichi and friends left Meiko behind in her anguish, and headed for the Digital World. They reunite with their partner Digimon, who have lost all their memories up to this point. Even so, the DigiDestined decide to reach out and rebuild those bonds, and their Digimon respond in kind. The sole exception is Biyomon, who is openly wary even after digivolving to her Rookie stage... "I told you, I don't know anything about 'the past'!" Sora's kindness in putting others before herself only makes Biyomon that much more suspicious. This leaves Sora stunned and hurt, and Taichi and Yamato are at a loss for what to say to her. As everyone discusses what they should do from here in the Digital World, Meicoomon suddenly appears and then vanishes. For some reason she still has her memories, as she wanders around with tears in her eyes, looking for Meiko. Seeing this strengthens the kids' resolve to travel through the Digital World in order to save Meicoomon. But then before their eyes appears that man who had been with the Dark Masters. Meanwhile in the real world, Nishijima receives word that Himekawa has gone missing. As he investigates, he determines that there's been some hidden agenda behind her behavior up to this point. My Thoughts: And clearly I spoke too soon about how each installment was an improvement on the last. The fourth installment was the weakest yet! It just moved sooo slow and added very little to the story overall. Weak. 

Digimon Adventure tri. 5: Kyousei (Digimon Adventure tri. Coexistence):

Genres: action, adventure, comedy, drama, film

Synopsis:  Fifth Digimon Adventure tri film.

My Rating: 7/10

My Thoughts: WOW that synopsis sure is descriptive... and i’m not going o be much more help. Honestly if you’ve come this far in the film series you clearly intend to finish it out so I don’t think I need to sell you on this one. I will say that this installment was thankfully a step up from the last... not much of a step up but i’ll take what I can get. Guess I should get my butt around to finally watching the last installment eh?

Episode 1

So That's Zarkon without his helmet

It seems that a timeskip has taken place and that everyone has been taking up Shiro's absence with a stiff upper lip

Note how when everyone mentions how important meeting Shiro was to them, Keith again doesn't explain about their earlier meeting

So the BoM guys just jump out. Yep, yep, I can see Keith being related to some of them.

Seems like the Paladins and the BoM are fully allies now, they interact with Kolivan rather casually here

So hunks claw thing can attack defensively, too!

Interesting how we get to see this whole bunch of Galra & their range of features, something of their society

act merciful then reassign him to space siberia. That's one establishing character moment right there.

But one interesting thing here is that while he's sneaky and manipulative he IS a fighter.

Keith is not the world's most diplomatic person but what he's saying IS the truth

Episode 2

I guess a theme of this episode seems to be that the characters are all capable of more than their straightfoward designated 1D roles. 

It's not just lance they were all sorta identified with their niches.

Hunk loving Yellow so much is so adorabs tho

Reminds me of this thing in guilty crown where a once wimpy character was inspired to „become“ a more confident one

Quirky miniboss squad has varied designs.Lotor has such a punchable face

Episode 3

So they go in when they can barely fly... They were fairly ragtag when Shiro took over tho – It wasn't TOOO bad thinking from Keith, he thought of placing the tracer

So Lotor's a genius pilot, too. They even THINK similarly „Don't waste the enemy's time of weakness.“

Again the formation gag

Allura is REALLY not good at this

So there is a „Voltron Feeling“, intersting

I feel ya so much Keith. I can't into group activities either.

Thing is he is actually a good planner he can even bark out orders well but he's used to risking & utilizing only himself with no further consquences.

I just hope the discourse squad isn't gonna hate on him too much, like, he said he wasn't cut out for it he's improvising as best as he can

There's a little Zethrid in all of us

Lance has this complex of not having a special role, but, he's kinda the ~Versatile~ guy, stepping into whatever roles are needed (just like water flows & changes shape)

& right here he's trying hard to be the glue

It's sort of a reversion because usually it's the charismatic guy who's the leader and the prioritize-the-mission guy who is number two (See Kirk & Spock)

Still I would like to stress that what Keith's doing here is his consistent trait of prioritizing the objective

I did not expect Allura to get this deep character moment but it makes sense

I wonder what we can infer from this about lance; Blue remains mysterious

They're all getting into it~

„I'm a leg“ Yeah now we know we've seen Allura without her mask

I must admit I got a mild case of the feels at this point

Opportunity, heh? He's got a plan. Probably capturing it for himself

Well this one cuts to the chase right away. Not much downtime this season.

Again I didn't expect Allura to get the focus this season.

Not having Shiro as a co-leader is srly fraying her nerves & making her feel the burden of her task. From the beginning she was always characterized as somewhere being an ordinary girl put portraying strenght because of the burden of her father's legacy – When you think about it, she is so, so stranded & this possibility is gonna compromise her bigtime

It's kinda like the plot of  „The Doctor's Wife“

There comes another favorite, the negative space wedgie

I like it when the technobabble includes references to how they are actually determining things („Gravity isn't being diverted“ etc. )

Its like a magic Event horizon!

Her whole Arc in season 2 was growing out of the black & white Mindset that Zarkon's betrayal left her in (ie, realizing the BoM and Keith are good, finding out the evil Haggar is Altean) but this takes „For Want Of A Nail“ even further

Still, a bit anticlimatic; I'd expected more of a finale than just „The lion senses him“ & no explanation for what happened, or will that be filled in later?

So... that didn't contain what I think it would & contained lots of stuff I didn't see coming. In a way it was a huge break from the format, really nonstop plot instead of the previous slower pacing & focus on character interactions.

I would have expected the revelations from season 2 to play more of a role (Keith's origin, Allura's newfound magical capabilities, who or what is Haggar)

I mean it makes sense because it's an exceptional situation with Shiro being gone & Lotor hot on their tails. I wonder what season 4 is gonna be like, thankfully it might be there soon.

It's been a bit since we had a Hunk or Pidge episode & I was looking forward to less utilized interactions such as Shiro with Lance & Hunk or a episode where Pidge & Keith go on a mission together

IDK there's so many dangling plot threads and now there's MORE but even so most of this was  good writing when seen for itself.

There wasn't a lot of Pidge content which isn't that bad given that she got to be showstealingly hypercompetent in the last two seasons but they better give us a Hunk episode in October.

So Allura's weapon is a flowy gymnastic ribbons thingy... kinda like a shinier version of that whip Zarkon's so fond of tho

I'm glad we got to see her kick butt with it before handing the Blue Lion back to lance

This fight scene well utilizes the bunch

AH now there's explanations, or at least an aknowledgement of a need for one. And again we see that Keith & Shiro sort of have a special confidence between them. Shiro allows himself to sound audibly distraught here. He looks to weird in such casual clothes, too. We never saw his pajamas in ep 2 so I guess now we know.

At which point during these last few eps did Keith acquire those bags under his eyes? Is it me or does he seem a lot more in control? Or perhaps its just the familiarity.

That moment at the end tho, aww. No one minds saving you, Shiro, because they all LOVE YOU TO BITS, especially Keith.

Ahhh I wanted him to keep the hair. But I guess he is the proper sort/ feel a bit less like a plant when he's clean-shaven. Yes bby tell them how proud you are.

How's this even gonna continue, is Shiro just gonna do mission control from now on? I'm gonna miss Keith doing Keith stunts if he's gonna be tied up as the boss man.

Even so, the teleport question is still no answered.

I was beginning to think they couldn't wrap up THAT much in just 2 episodes but they seem to have taken this as a challenge. T'is a rolacoaster.

Hey isn't that the guy from the first episode? In any case you almost have to sympathize with that random Galra comander.  Poor bastard. Two invading parties. +Is there gonna be a confrontation now? Keith Kogane and the Halfblood Prince. Ohh this buildup of epic music cant be good

the four way battle with the generals was interesting/ pretty cool like theres one for each of them to smash. Are they setting up miss scaultrite thief for a high heel face turne? I hope not that would kind of be trite.Some are saying she might be part of his long-lot family, but wasn’t Keith’s mom supposed to have been with Marmorites instead of the Empire? 

Keith PLUS mission control Shiro would seem to be its wholly new desaster to adjust to. Keith did not ask for nor deserve this you can tell he hates every minute of it.

Ep 7

At this point its srly weird how the opening is still the same, especially after they set up all those elemental associations for everyone's original lions.

So lotors mom WAS altean but it wasn't Haggar herself as far as I can tell.

I'm smelling a gendo ikari type backstory here but i hope theyll be creative about whatever they do. And ooh, allura's parents in the backround her mom looks just like her.

There goes my headcanon that the original green paladin was olkari. But also ooh backstory.

But hey I think Pidge's predecessor was also a girl? And Lance's is... also very obvious. Alchemy!

Oh wait it is Haggar, and that WAS, indeed, the Galra homeworld. Classic „overdid the black magic“ backstory & went bonkers backstory Though Zarkon seemed to be lowkey authoritarian & obsessed with destructive potential well before he went bananas. I suppose the series has stuck to classic tropes.

Interesting choice to top it off with the backstory & let that be the twist/ finale with the character arcs themselves being left dangling – Last we saw of Keith, it seemed like whatever sense he had that he was getting the hang of it had just kinda crumbled away again and he seems so miserable, like, glancing away even at the end of the conversaton with little resembling a resolution.

And we still don't know what actually happened to Shiro. Did we even see how Zarkon got his scar? 

Also, did our Evil Overlord Couple make Lotor before or after they turned into zombies?

Any partner headcanons for characters that weren’t shown with any? Some of mine:

Shin: Kunemon -> Thundrrballmon. Just because of the implausible, comedic gag (trope?) of using Thunderballmon as an improvised defibrillator.

Shū: Otamamon -> Gekomon. IDK folk music?

Jun: Gazimon -> Witchmon. I know this isn’t a canon evolution, but both species suit her IMO.

AU!Osamu: Kudamon -> Reppamon. I like the idea of him with a fox, but Renamon doesn’t quite fit.

Mantarō: KoKuwamon -> Kuwagamon. NGL I got lazy with the Inōe siblings and just used components of Chimeramon.

Momoe: Falcomon -> AirDramon.

Chizuru: Gottsumon -> Monoclomon.

Hiroki: FanBeemon -> Waspmon. I have a headcanon that Archnemon is a subconscious tribute to Hiroki, who had an insect-like partner.

I never thought about it before... Like, I've gotten a ton of ideas for Jun but barely made anything "official" (as in, nothing i've accepted 100% as headcanon) regarding this.

I'm a Motomiya family enthusiast (everyone knows that already) so I only ventured with headcanons and such with her and never tried something with anyone else before.

For her I had like, three or four digimon partners depicted in some of my works before. First I had the concept idea of her being partnered with two of my fanmons -- Sapphmon and Nixmon.

[ On a note, I never liked people's complaint that "all girls get bird-like digimon" because that's a blatant lie: Mimi got a Plant-like, Hikari got a mammal digimon, Shaochung/Suzie got a rabbit, Yoshino also a plant-like digi, Nene had Mervamon as partner too, Eri got an appmon that looks like nothing based a bird. Even in games girls like Sayo, Rina and Mirei had no bird-like digimon. And within Advverse Catherine got a Floramon, and Rosa a Gotsumon. Lola/Laura and Anna had nothing that were bird-like digimon either! So only a person uninformed in the franchise would claim girls always get bird-like digimon. Ikuto is a boy and got Falcomon, so what's their argument now? ]

Later, I felt too drained to draw Nixmon so I changed it to a Chibimon whose evolves into LordKnightmon. That's a good idea I thought. He got its own story later.

But I recently wrote a story with Jun having a Bibimon as partner. I think Pulsemon is a very cute and interesting digimon so I'd think it would fit her.

Once I thought of giving her Aegiomon as partner, as a joke of her having "two Daisukes to deal with" but i never went far than that initial idea.

I also had the idea about her having Impmon as partner, but yeah maybe not...
