what's that? An old study inbetween? IT IS. I started this one way too small, so I had trouble getting the details in, but yeah! I love being messy with oil paints.

i had my first ever exhibition yesterday, my work was there and so were a few others. i feel really proud of myself with how far i have come.
the art statement for my piece says "Family tree is an acrylic on canvas painting portraying an old-fashioned family, except the family members are half deer half human. Deers are symbolic for many cultures and religions and convey messages such as rebirth and innocence – I wanted to focus on this and depict purity, continuing my studies from this by creating a second painting which may show that purity destroyed. But for now, I have painted this portrait, and using human life situations that may contrast with the subject of my painting – the ‘hunter’s lodge’ and ‘taxidermy diploma’ on the walls behind the family, which heavily contradicts the entire painting. Deers are often hunted, yet in my painting the roles have reversed, which may seem unusual or unnatural. Taxidermy is a family business for the characters shown in my painting, But the unsettling feeling comes from the questionable aura that may give off from the certificate and the family being non-human. Are they humans, with heads of deer’s they hunted? Or are they animals forced to learn to live the ways humans do? "
