So Watcher is launching a Dropout (it's not called Dropout but they're clearly using the same template format platform thing idk what it's called, and the same pricing structure), and the reaction so far has been wildly different than what I remember from Dropout's launch. I was curious about why that was or if I was just misremembering the Dropout launch, so I went back to the Dropout launch video to compare them and I think I can see where some of the difference is coming from.

I wanna clarify first though that this isn't a knock against Watcher or the fans who are reacting one way or another or anything like that, I genuinely am just fascinated with how different the reactions are to what seems to be the same business decision. This also isn't a 'wow watcher sucks and dropout is so much better' I'm just using them for comparison because they did the same thing with different results. ALSO this isn't about the business decision itself, just the presentation! Disclaimers out of the way, here's the analysis.

Title and Thumbnail So the Watcher.tv announcement video is titled "Goodbye Youtube" and the thumbnail is Ryan, Shane, and Steven sitting on a couch looking serious, with a dark background. That really makes it seem like they're quitting (which, ok, they are quitting youtube but not quitting quitting). Viewers are already primed to be upset, and it's easier to go from upset to angry than upset to excited, curious, or neutral.

Compare to the dropout announcement video: "How the Internet is Ruining Comedy" - inline with other collegehumor video titles, might make you curious. Thumbnail - Big News! with Sam smiling and a bright background. We know its big news, but he looks happy, and the exclamation point let's us know they want us to be excited. Viewers are primed to be curious and excited.

Tone The Watcher announcement has 2 main tones. The first half is very sentimental, almost sad or wistful at times, and while there are parts that veer into pride at achievements, it's mostly bittersweet and sentimental. The second half is a bit more uplifting, but still quite serious. It reminded me of a tech announcement, like when they introduce the new iphone or something like that. Very professional, sleek, and serious, which isn't automatically a bad thing! But I do think that's not the vibe a decently-sized chunk of the audience expected or wanted. Many people watch Watcher for the cast's dynamic with each other, humor, and the more relaxed/conversational/friendly feel that most of the series have.

Compare to dropout - excited and comedic tone. Still professional, but also fits the expectations of the viewers. People watch collegehumor for the humor (it was in the name, after all). They also poke a bit of fun at themselves, which lightens the mood, shows self-awareness, and alleviates some of the bad feelings about paywalling.

Focus The Watcher announcement focuses a lot on the creative journey of the cast and company, as well as how this move will benefit them. Which isn't a bad thing, that's actually quite interesting! The problem here, I think, is actually more about what isn't here - a solid explanation of how this will also benefit the viewers and why the viewers should be excited. There's a brief description of one new show, and the promise that existing shows will get an upgrade, but we weren't given many specific details about how they'll be improved, and there's only one new show to tempt us into subscribing. Some people will be excited for that, some people won't, and some people will be excited but not enough to subscribe. Having 2 or 3 series (even if it's 1 fleshed out plus a few teasers of what's in production or what is being planned) plus some more details about how existing shows will be improved would've helped. Without that, it really does seem like it'll just be the same stuff viewers were getting for free, but now paywalled, rather than new and exciting stuff. That makes a big difference. I think with the fans not getting as much focus, this also led to some (accidental, I hope) hurt feelings. Based on what I've seen from fan reactions, all the talk about hitting the peak of what they can do on youtube and wanting more, translated for many people to 'youtube isn't enough' which became 'you (the current viewers) aren't enough.' Which I don't think was their intent! But I also don't think fans are wrong for feeling hurt by that.

Compare to dropout: They clearly explain how the move will benefit fans, and reassure viewers that existing content will stay where it is, and only new content will be behind the paywall. (Watcher clarified this too, but in a comment. It's not in the video itself, which is a huge problem.) They include clips of several new (at the time) series that would be premiering on dropout, including things that specifically could not be made on youtube (due to weed, violence, and sexual humor), so the reason for the shift is clear to the audience.

Advertisers Both videos contain the sentiment that being monetarily successful on youtube means working to appease the advertisers, and that over time what the advertisers want and what the creators want drifts further and further apart, putting strain on the creators.

However, I think the message gets lost a bit in the Watcher vid. Instead, it leaves viewers with the idea that the main problem is just ads are annoying instead of advertisers putting constraints on content. I'm not even sure what the specific constraints are for watcher, because they didn't give any examples. And the focus on ads being annoying leaves viewers frustrated because people typically either don't mind ads or they already have an ad blocker.

Timing and Size Okay, this isn't exactly about presentation, but it is still a factor that impacts perception so I'm tackling it. And I'm actually going to do dropout first. CollegeHumor launched dropout in September 2018. Pre-pandemic, but also pre-Sam Reich as CEO. The company was still owned by IAC. It was a Company, and while it wasn't huge it wasn't tiny either. So launching dropout was a Company Decision, a Business Strategy. Some people were upset about, but it wasn't a personal betrayal (generally, anyways). If I remember correctly, this was also not a high point for the company. They kinda needed dropout to do well to keep things running smoothly (which is why they shut it down and sold it to Sam just 1 1/2ish years later), so the sudden shift made sense.

Watcher Entertainment is a company, but it doesn't feel like one. Ryan, Shane, and Steven own and operate things, but they're also the faces, and they're youtubers. Which makes every business decision they make feel more personal to viewers, especially those who have been watching for a long time. They've also seemingly been doing well on youtube, which makes it more difficult for viewers to understand why the sudden change is happening now. They do talk a bit about it, about the company expanding and wanting to do things that advertisers don't like (which I've already covered). However, mostly the choice to start a streaming platform is framed as 'the next big step' without much clarification on why it's the next big step. Plus, it's post-pandemic, and a lot of people are still struggling financially with the ripple effects of that. Yes, $6 isn't a wild amount of money, but there have been some months where $5 absolutely meant the difference between paying all my bills or not, and I know I'm not the only one. This, coupled with a lack of clarity about why exactly they're doing this, leads to fans feeling hurt, betrayed, bitter, and frustrated.

Now, presentation and framing isn't everything. No matter how perfect your announcement is, some people are still going to be upset. It's a big change, of course people will be upset! But I do think a more careful presentation would've alleviated some of the hurt and anger that fans are feeling. While I do think a lot of the reaction we're seeing is due to the decision, I think (based on what I've seen) that some of it is also based on the poor communication in the video itself, and that could've been avoided!

So I'm gonna get a little speculative and describe what I would've done. In this hypothetical, they've decided to launch the streaming service and brought me on just for the announcement.

Firstly, switch the title out. If they're married to Goodbye Youtube then add a (and hello...?) after so it's at least obvious they aren't fully quitting. The dark color scheme of the thumbnail fits their regular vibe, but they want everyone to be excited so they should look excited. Next, let's lighten the tone up. Being proud of what they've done so far is great, but we don't need the sentimental music and bittersweetness. Remember, the goal is to get viewers excited about what come's next - so let's focus on what actually comes next! Talk about specific show plans and mention why they wouldn't work on youtube. Then, take some time to reassure the fans. Predict a few likely worries and address them in the video. Acknowledge that it's a big change, that it will take time to get used to, and that not everyone will be onboard, and let the fans know that it's ok if they aren't onboard.

Like I said, this wouldn't fix everything. There are a few differences in between dropout and watcher that don't have anything to do with presentation. Dropout launched with primarily new shows rather than new seasons of existing shows, and they continued uploading to youtube relatively regularly in addition to the content behind the paywall, which I do think went a long way to keeping fans happy. At this point it's unclear if watcher will do either of those or not. But, while I don't think it would fix everything, I do think improved communication in the announcement would've helped.

Hello guys I finally FINALLY know how to embody a state. Story time ahead.

About a week ago I joined a theatre group for just a week,like a substitute of someone else cuz she was having some severe injuries and they made me play a character name Angela which that girl used to play. And the director of the play she told me to think like Angela as if I'm the real Angela and I was like ok. And then for a week I was thinking as if I am Angela,so director gave me a template of how Angela is her character,her habits everything and it 360° of how I actually am.

So Angela is a comic character and her comic timing always have to be perfect.

She's very confident.

She is hard working.

Even if it's acting I have always find it hard to play confident character and this was literally my FIRST TIME ACTUALLY performing and I did so well for like a week I start embodying myself as Angela with a funny humor, hardworking confidence and all those stuff. And lastnight after the play was done my sister-in-law said something making me question myself,"did I just embody a state the whole freaking week!? IT'S THAT EASY". She basically said the whole week I was behaving like the character that I was playing.

And I was not at all thinking of this as loa related it was serious business guys,I was just thinking like to get Angela's confidence.

And not juts me those actors in movies also get effected by the character that they play.

I think it's call alter ego something I read about it before I think the post was from Fleur.

Anyways I was thinking about this the whole way from the theatre to my home and I execute my plan I open my note pad and made a whole character,I wrote few thing that I want myself to be for now and tried to embody as thought I am her and I affirmed "I'm Venus" and boy I feel alot more confident.

Him As a Fake Boyfriend | Genshin Impact

✧ So, my inspiration is from a movie, there are so many like these and they're always fun to me, sooooo I wrote about it! I hope you like it! The "plot" is generic, don't mind me. Also, usually I'll have a template for consistency but I didn't really come up with one here- sorry, I just really wanted to write it lol.

✧ Characters: Diluc, Kaeya, Thoma, Wanderer, Tighnari, Kaveh

✧ Extra: As per usual, (w/n) stands for wanderer's name in the event you wanna use the one you chose

Your sister is getting married, so of course you would be attending. The problem was... your ex was going to be there as well. As much as you disliked them, you had to attend. You had already lied a few times to your family that you did, indeed, have a boyfriend and planned a whole breakup story before actually attending the wedding. That's when your sister mentioned to you that your ex was attending.

Of course, she also told you to bring your boyfriend so that you could show him off. One problem: you didn't have one. So what was your plan?

You were going to hire one.

✧✧ Diluc ✧✧

Well, you're bold to approach him to be your fake boyfriend. You two were... barely friends, really. So he flat out rejected you the first time you asked.

You had to give him a whole explanation, practically begging him to reconsider. It took a while, but he finally accepted, declining when you said you'd pay him.

He told you to consider it a favor, and that he'll definitely be asking for one back in the future. You agreed- seeing as how you had little choice you had.

Diluc is pretty good at faking it. He's the type that keeps around you, comes up with replies really fast. He's good at remembering everything- all the information you gave him.

Definitely a no-nonsense boyfriend. If you're lying to yourself, he'll let you know. He also makes sure to remind you that you lying to everyone won't help either and it's best to resolve the issue quickly.

However, he also plays his role really well. There are no slipups, he's super confident, and he definitely scares your ex. The glares he sends your ex's way are just... so good.

You can help but be attracted to Diluc toward the end... he was pretty amazing...

✧✧ Kaeya ✧✧

He is definitely smirking and making assumptions on why you came to him, specifically. Of course, he teased you for a few minutes but eventually agreed. However, you'd owe him now.

He sat you down somewhere private and asked you seriously why you were asking for this. You gave him a quick rundown of the situation and he listened quietly before affirming that he'd be helping.

He's good at memorizing all your family members names, their faces, likes, dislikes, all that. You give him a lengthy speech before getting to the town where the wedding was going to be.

Kaeya is really good at calming you down, making sure to say the right things when any family member upsets you. He's not all that intimidating at first glance and he's ok with that.

He keeps your ex away by being all over you. The second your ex is even approaching you, Kaeya's arm is around your waist, pulling you against his chest, and kissing your cheek.

Honestly, your entire family is convinced Kaeya is so head over heels for you and keeps telling you that you should marry him soon. Of course, Kaeya happily agrees to it in front of them, but says nothing afterward.

At the end of the day, this was just a fake boyfriend situation. Or was it?

✧✧Thoma✧✧

You and Thoma weren't the closest, but you knew of him and so... you tried anyway. Thoma was shocked for sure and a little unsure at first. But you needed help so... he agreed. He wanted you to keep the money, but you insisted, telling him to just treat it like a job since you two weren't that close.

He had little to no trouble remembering names, likes, dislikes, and problematic people. You explained that some family members were really obnoxious and sometimes got into arguments with one another or insulted you.

Thoma memorized everyone and assured you it would be fine. You also gave him an explanation on that dumb ex of yours. Thoma picked up on your discomfort and touched your shoulder. "Don't worry, we'll be fine."

You two were staying in a family member's large home, in which you and Thoma shared a room. He offered to sleep on the floor but you didn't mind sharing the bed.

Everyone LOVES him. He's entertaining, kind, sweet, and very comforting. If someone says something that upsets you, he makes an excuse to pull you away and immediately says the opposite. Someone makes fun of you? He's telling you how gorgeous you look.

Your ex can't even get a minute with you. The second they look at you and are coming over, Thoma's grabbing your arm and taking you somewhere else.

He's the comforting boyfriend and it almost makes you a little sad when you're both heading back because you know this charade will be over soon. But it was definitely fun while it lasted. Maybe.. you might ask him out to a real date soon.

✧✧Wanderer✧✧

First of all, why him? Second, he wants that payment upfront. Every mora. He's rolling his eyes the entire time you're explaining why you wanted him to help you.

However, he does listen well when you're telling him names and personalities. He asks questions and makes sure he remembers everything to keep from embarrassing you.

He... doesn't stand for anyone making fun of you. Old friends, family, that dumbass ex. Right now, you're his and no one's gonna insult what belongs to him.

It was actually endearing. He may have been a bit too aggressive, but the way he defended you almost made you feel sad you weren't actually with him.

He's, of course, the no no-nonsense boyfriend, letting you know if you're being a doormat for everyone. He is, however, encouraging. Telling you what to do to actually be happy- as an unbiased party watching you crash and burn. That made you laugh for sure.

Your ex had managed to pull you away for a minute, telling you that they were better than (w/n) and that's when your "boyfriend" swooped in. Pretty much insulted and threatened your ex before dragging you off.

All in all, you enjoyed the wedding with (w/n)- a lot more than you thought you would. You were almost tempted to ask him out on a real date. He might've even said yes, who knows...

Tighnari thought it was a joke at first and actually laughed before his smile faltered and he apologized. You explained the whole reason- practically holding nothing back.

Tighnari felt bad so he agreed, he also insisted you keep your money. You explained that you'd need to stay at your family's home for a few days and he agreed to that too.

You two went through the family names and all that- but he almost made a point to ask what you were comfortable with. Hugs, kisses, PDA- all that. You knew there wasn't much of a choice, you two needed to look like a genuine couple... so everything was ok.

Tighnari's interactions with your family made him seem like he fit in almost perfectly. Your family loved him, but there were some that were skeptics. Especially your ex. Tighnari simply explained you were a new couple, so you two were still getting used to one another.

He took really good care of you. He made sure you didn't drink too much, he kept you from anyone who didn't like you, countered any insult that was thrown your way, and was just so perfect.

He showed his affection through touches and light kisses, rubbing your wrist before grabbing your hand and placing a kiss on your knuckles. The event went so smoothly with him there.

At the end of it, you were quite sad that you weren't actually with him. You made sure to thank him repeatedly but he only chuckled and waved it off, saying he had fun. You heavily debated asking him out right then and there.

Kaveh... wasn't sure. Pretending to be your boyfriend? That would just lead to more problems. Especially if he slipped up. He refused at first, but you really asked him.

He was dead set on rejecting you but when your eyes met his and he saw that desperation in there, he kinda froze up. You really needed help and what kind of man would he be to turn you down? So, he agreed- but he didn't want to be paid for it.

Learning about your family was hard, especially in one day. Of course, that didn't mean he didn't give it his darndest, but he couldn't remember them all before the day you were supposed to be at the family home.

Even if he couldn't remember them all, Kaveh has a very shiny personality and easily won your entire family over. He was so easy going, such a goof, and really kind! Your ex, however, didn't like him.

That was the entire point, every time he talked near your ex, Kaveh just went on tirades about how perfect you were for him and how lucky of a man he was to have such a sweet person loving him. Honestly, your family was already planning your wedding while still at your sister's wedding!

He was definitely the sweet, touchy boyfriend. He always had an arm around you, he often gave you kisses, don't forget dance practice! Honestly, he had so much fun- even if half of it was fake. Before you two knew it, the wedding was over and you were headed back.

You really had fun and throughout the party you kept comparing Kaveh to your ex. He was so much better- kinder, more fun, more loving, even if it was fake. There was a dull ache in your chest as you were going home and you were heavily debating on whether or not you should ask him out for real.

girl (nonspecific, just used here as an interjection, i know there are several of you reading this) i know it's been a lot and like shit got so hectic i updated that i had a backsplash and then nothing but listen i've been unpacking stuff into my

NEW KITCHEN

which is fully operational and move-in ready it's just missing the door to one cabinet and a bunch of little pieces of trim and whatnot but

FEAR NOT

i will give you the scoop once i can figure out where i left off in the updates.

Max mixed up a batch of grout and set to grouting the tiles, now that the adhesive or mortar or whatever had cured overnight. Jim, meanwhile, installed the dishwasher to be ready for the plumber, and installed the vent hood.

He also used a sheet of paper to cut out a template so he could cut the odd-sized piece of trim wood to cover the bay windowsill. "I got a whole roll of paper," he said, "but I only got one piece of wood." "Measure once, cut three times," Max interjected.

Finally the plumber rolled in-- Kyle, who'd been here before. He'd said he'd come Monday, but on Thursday when Jim called to confirm, he said he could push it up and come Friday instead. Which was huge, because it meant a working stove and working sink and working dishwasher and really, working kitchen, really really.

Jim bartered for a part from him, to hook the stove up-- he had one of Kyle's tools, left behind on an earlier job. Kyle was like ha I don't actually need it back I bought a replacement BUT i will give you the nipple you need anyway. (Yes! It was a nipple. That's a pipe fitting thing and I get a gold star for not giggling.)

So while Kyle was in the basement, hooking up my dryer and repairing my laundry sink (I had arranged to pay him separately for that, as neither thing were part of the kitchen job, and he figured he'd do those first so his boss would have a chance to send an invoice so I could pay him before he left, much easier all around), Jim and Max installed the stove and got it painstakingly leveled.

They did a really thorough job on this, which involved pulling out that lower drawer so Jim could reach under to the rear adjustable feet with a wrench to fine-tune the position once the stove was shoved into place.

"Aw," I said, "now I gotta find the owner's manual to find out how to set the clock on this stove again," and Max wordlessly tilted his head, looked at the control panel, unerringly punched the button with a picture of a clock on it, and said "what time is it?" so I told him, he punched it in. "Kids," Jim laughed, and I said "so good with technology." Finished, Max hit the clock button again, and erased his work. "Oops," he said, repeated the process, and this time hit the "Start/OK" button at the end, which worked and actually entered the time.

Then the real excitement began, because Kyle finished mucking around in the basement and came up and put together the sink. Max, having now attached all of my cabinet door and drawer handles, had now mostly run out of work to do by then so he leaned on things and watched kyle work, which was also what I was doing, LOL.

But the moment of excitement came very soon.

No leaks! Hooked up! So exciting. He then ran a quick cycle on the dishwasher to make sure it didn't leak either, and lo and behold it did not.

Meanwhile Max lit the stove and ran it until the air was out of the line.

Literally, now we're cooking with gas.

So, everyone was done and wrapped up before 3pm on Friday afternoon, and they all left in high spirits. Jim will be back to put on the final cabinet door (they made it wrong! the custom cabinet people fucked up my door! I never knew because Jim had already sent it back) and all the crown molding, and a couple of other little details. He might come Monday but if the pieces aren't ready for him then he won't come until they are. In the meantime, I can use the kitchen to my heart's desire.

He gave me back my house key, since we were moving back into the house over the weekend, so I'd be present.

The first thing I did was put all my grungy old unwashable dishwares into the dishwasher to see if it melted them, hence my post on this topic. (Update: Nothing so far has actually gotten ruined! Amazing.)

But the second thing was that we went back over to dude's mom's to retrieve our cat. <3 <3 <3 and then i got to sleep in my own bed with my beloved cat.

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

He's a moderately affectionate person. But the catch is - only with you and in small ways. What I mean by that is he'll remember things like the kind of flower you like or your favorite color and show in different ways that he's committed to memory those pieces of information. While not against public bigger displays of affection, he reserves them more for when you're in private, not because he doesn't want to - but those kinds of gestures he feels are ones only you deserve to see and have. Smaller signs of affection may include kissing your knuckles or resting his hand on your back lightly when close to you.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

He's not opposed to it! Though he may not admit it outright, he enjoys embracing you more than he lets on lol. His preferred way of holding you is by spooning, with arm draped around your waist and his legs tangled up in yours. It keeps you safe and secure in his arms.

At some point, yes, that is the goal Ganondorf wants to strive for: a spouse to rule alongside his status as king at the Gerudo throne. I will say though, he definitely gets his fair share in of laying with others before he gets to that point. Though it is treated more as learning experiences for him so as to be able to please his partner. Ganondorf is actually not a bad cook at all. He's not particular with what he eats exactly, but the man likes his food well-seasoned, and sometimes you just have to make the food yourself to the tastes that you'd prefer. He's personally cleanly, but I honestly don't think he cleans himself, no. He does take advantage of some of the perks of being chief, you know?

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

There's a yes and no to this answer. Looking at him you wouldn't think that he's capable of a more benign demeanor, but I assure you - his upbringing has given him space for being more than just a conqueror and a warrior. Physically there is always a time and a place for when weapon wielded hands are meant to provide comfort and reassurance. Emotionally is a little tougher, while he knows there are instances where he should be, can be kinder, being the only male sets a heavy expectation on him - to be strong, to be tough, to be a provider. He knows his heart should be more open for you in that sense - but an open heart lays the ground work for weakness, and as chief he feels he can't be weak when he has a whole society to protect.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

He likes them - but they are few and far between. When Ganondorf hugs you though, it's more like a protective hold. Very safe, very secure. Still tender! But you get this feeling of security in his arms. He's largely muscular and huge in comparison to you, so when his arms come around you, they kind of literally engulf you. He can lift you into his arms during these hugs without issue too.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

Haha...so my headcanon with Ganondorf is he won't say those words outright unless it's in passion or under distress. More often than not he'll either imply it by action or through a different way of saying it. Like for example, you tell him 'I love you' and he'll say something along the lines of life, 'You give meaning to my days, my love'. Something like that - substantial enough to imply your importance in his heart - but never quite 'I love you'.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

Oooooooh I go 50/50 on this. He's not inherently a jealous person - who would be? He's a king, has the physique of a god and is an accomplished warrior - but should you laugh a little too hard with someone else or if someone else tries to pull your attentions away from Ganondorf more than is necessary, well let's just say Ganondorf is not necessarily fond of that. It honestly doesn't even take much to keep the person at a more appropriate distance from you either, the man need only give them a stern look - that often tends to be enough to shake most.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

Depends on the type of kiss! The Gerudo chief is capable of light kisses, like on your hand or your shoulder. Or more passionate kisses like your lips. His favorite sfw place to kiss you is probably your shoulder blade. It's just intimate enough to be a show of affection but also not inappropriate to do out in public. On him however, Ganondorf, when not being kissed on the lips actually likes being kissed on his forehead. There's a lot of power in one's third eye, and he considers it a high form of endearment when you place loving kisses there. Almost feels like a blessing to him, you know?

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

Stern, but sympathetic. Ganondorf can be hardass toward children that require some discipline (for their own good - like kids who are jumping off of several flights of stone steps, knowing they can hurt themselves but do it anyway for fun? Those kind of kiddos), but he is not without a heart. Children who require nurturing or guidance are not without a genuine father-figure should they find themselves in his care.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

Should you prove yourself capable, whether it be a fighter, scholar, what have you - he's protective to only the extent that you'd need him. You have a weapon's master and sorcerer on your arm, there isn't a single thing he can't use to protect you, thankfully. As for protecting him, you'll find he most likely won't need it. Though should you try to protect him - deep down he'll find it admirable. Just don't get hurt or it'll turn into a lecture on your safety.

Anyways!! Catherine Chun is honestly my favorite deuteragonist in gaming because of how well she's written (sorry Wheatley (he's a close second though)). On my first playthrough I (and I assume a lot of other people) just immediately decide "OK, she's the only other sane 'person' on this station, so she's automatically a friend", and hell, it seems that's how Simon himself views her from the moment they first speak at Upsilon's comms center. But reading into her dialogue, she really doesn't seem to view Simon as a buddy at all up until like.. Their heart-to-heart at the Climber methinks. Just look at how she speaks with him whenever he starts getting existential.

She speaks to him as more of an annoying coworker at times. Considering her attitude towards other sentient machines, I think it's extending even to Simon. She sees him as a means to an end, or at least tries to, up until she has to copy and paste his mind into a new diving suit. And then, when she fails to hide the original Simon from the newly created duplicate and he is rightfully distraught and furious - I think that's when the actual weight of it all hits her.

This interaction still fucks me up a little. The distress in that "Please, stop" as Simon (very righftully) lashes out at her. It's even worse when you consider this is how most of the people she scanned treated her. They're all desperate. They hope that when they sit down in that Pilot Seat and close their eyes, they'll open them in paradise. But when they end up exactly where they were. and realize a copy of them is going to be living it large on a spaceship while they continue rotting down at Pathos II, it's no wonder they'd suddenly view the whole thing as cruel and disgusting. It's still wrong and selfish, of course - especially directing that anger at the one person responsible for preserving humanity simply because you refuse to understand how brain scans work. It's worse when you realize she never got to defend herself from all of it, and in the end she was killed by her own desperate coworkers. And now she's experiencing it again. Unknowingly, Simon's putting her through the exact same thing her human template went through over and over and over again. She viewed him as a means to an end, but I think that stopped after she had to go through that. She shares her memories of home with Simon. I'd say they only REALLY start getting along at like, Phi, which makes the exchange immediately after the ARK is launched that much more gut wrenching. The thing is, while I think Catherine stopped viewing Simon as a means to an end, Simon didn't stop viewing her as one. From the moment she tells him about the ARK, he was probably itching to get on it. Sure, saving humanity is great, but you'd probably also want to be saved aswell, no?

The fact that this is her last exchange and these are the last words she manages to say is absolutely fucked up. You can just imagine what was going through Catherine's mind as she was saying this - Simon telling her she's "Fucking disgusting!", a sentiment echoed by people she considered acquaintances (people she was saving), seeing her own corpse with it's head bashed in by a wrench.. This wasn't just aimed at Simon, I think. This is basically her finally standing up for herself. Her standing up to everyone who despised her simply because THEY didn't understand how brain scans work. She did everything right, she saved humanity - and she was still treated like garbage in the end. And she doesn't even get to finish her sentence before her chip fries and she dies for the second and final time. And if Simon saw things from her perspective for once, he would have the time to pull her Omnitool out and save her from that.

Aoi is pretty much still processing the whole "being reborn" thing, hence their reactions to their new face and humans are along the lines of "it's ok, I guess." But they would eventually come to realise that they are genuinely grateful for being saved.

Aoi can no longer do the monster-creating, face-stealing part of their repertoire. Their magic from here on out is just the usual mage magic, but in a spooky, but harmless flavouring. It's a reason why they prefer the way of the sword instead. Luckily for them, Lema also knows his way around a weapon, and can at least teach them the basics during their travels together.

As for the alternate universe version of them that they look up to, it's Ymir. He is basically a Reborn who is in constant denial about being saved and his life having worth, and had to do the healing and redeeming all on his own. Also, he's from my little OC story-idea, and I just wanted to make a little cameo.

Ex-Dark Lord

Thoughts on HP Banana: Like, Average, Dislike Do they prefer their previous or current job? Previous (Factory worker), Current (New Lumos guard), Neither Mental strength: Strong, Average, Weak Actual personality: Good, Average, Bad

Rui's ok with HP Bananas. He even eats some when he's at work, haha. For his job, it's a little different because he's juggling between the old HP Banana worker one and the current New Lumos guard one. Obviously with that arrangement, he prefers neither and wants something better.

The best I can describe Rui is that he wants to be like Neo:Blood Mage from DFO so bad, but he cannot as he is just a regular person stuck supporting his brother and himself. The added irony is that Aoi actually does pull off the unhinged mage vibe better than he ever could, look no further to their Dark Lord act.

Rui's guard duty in New Lumos is more out of guilt and self-imposed penance. The monsters there seem to be too placid to ever try breaking out, no doubt thanks to Aoi's Curse influence weakening by the day. If nothing else, Rui gets to do some magic practice whenever he's there.

Also, Guardian really did ask Rana to go beat up a 20-year old lmao…... I'm sure all of the party members are older than him, too. So it goes with my OCs.

Great Sage

Do they know other magic than Cure-type spells? Yes, Sort Of, No Physical strength: Strong, Average, Weak Had a mentor in the past? Yes, No Thoughts on helping others: Like, Average, Indifferent

(First one was tricky to translate, but I think the gist was that it's asking if your Great Sage knows more kinds of magic than Cure/Cleric spells, like what's implied in-game.)

What else is there to say about Lema? Bnuuy. Your average prettyboy Sage. His father was his mentor on earth communion, Lema's other type of magic. This was what made the Darker Lord especially dangerous as he could now directly manipulate the environment. It's also how the Darker Lord made the Otherworld, by tearing a hole in the sky in a show of power.

It's also why his version of the Darkest Lord looks like a merging of him and the Otherworld/Darker Lord's Domain! It's the apex of Lema's specialty, but in the trappings of a final boss. (You gotta hand it to Aoi as the Dark Curse sometimes, they know how to pull off the villainous vibes regardless of their host, haha)

Lema can never compare to the iconic nature of Great Sage Yumil for me, but I still like how he turned out in the end.

Rana is pretty standard, the only thing that stands out from her is that in regards to fighting: she sees it as an unavoidable, sometimes necessary, part of life. It's just that her kind nature meant she would rather do anything else sometimes. Guardian Spirit is more of a guardian angel figure in my version, so she thinks positively of him.

(Who am I kidding, Guardian is pretty much Great Sage Yumil in a different role lmao)

Fukuzawa and Ranpo romantic themes essay

First off y'all are focusing too much on Fukuzawa. Sorry but if you look to Fukuzawa only Fukuzawa/cats has merit. Even with FukuMori it's Mori we get 90% of the ship content from (silver fox?? Can you not hit on him for FIVE SECONDS MORI-)

You have to look at RANPO. And so we will, mostly, in this response.

Now I did say "themes" first so you're all gonna have to deal with me doing both. I’m just gonna lead with the thing that I see the behavior in the og tweet with the most:

Antis almost never fail to say "father and son" in their captions when they post screenshots of this anthology chapter.

As the translator of this anthology I will tell you it's not father and son. It's tsundere boyfriend.

How is this tsundere?!: “I’m not worried about you, baka, I just don’t ever want to see you sick—play sick nurse for you again!! So take better care of yourself!! Here’s a snack!! Feel better or else!!” + this phrase "I never thought I'd hear such caring words from you" is your basic tsundere trope template in JP.

Why does that mean it’s romantic?!: Tsundere behavior is mostly reserved for love interests – particularly this bit.

He’s just offering him a snack!!: Look at the shojo background in every panel. Look at the sparkles. Look at them setting the fluffy lovey-dovey mood. Look at Fukuzawa’s saying he’ll take them to his heart. You can hear the “Kyaaaa, Yukichi-kun was so close!!!” if you listen carefully.

But- but- FATHER AND SON!!: you may now see why it took a Fukuran shipper to translate this 4 years after it was released, despite the scanlation boom over covid ;)

But that’s an anthology! It’s not really canon!

Moving right along then, this is Bones only, but:

Seeing color because you meet someone is literally the basis of an entire subset of soulmate AUs.

I bookmarked two romance quotes in the last 6 hours that center on romantic love bringing color into someone’s life. This is an extremely common romantic trope and I still can’t believe Bones went there in Origins. a. “But Nova!” they cry, “lots of parents say their children bring color into their lives!!” True!! And you’ve just said why this isn’t the same! Fukuzawa brought color to RANPO’s life, not the other way around. This is why I say to look to Ranpo for this ship!

There are about 104 examples of “Unbroken Vigil” on TV tropes. Exactly two of them are children waiting by their parents, and they’re both from live action film. This trope, across all categories of media, is absolutely owned by romantic couples. Notably in the anime and fanon sections there are no examples of family members doing this. I won’t say there aren’t any anywhere, though. JJK exists. But that’s a good example of how different Ranpo’s reaction is from the usual “caretaker is in the hospital” mood – sure Yuuji’s sad when his grandpa dies, but he’s gonna be ok. Ranpo’s, as Yosano says, devastated. Ranpo’s devastation fits squarely in the romantic box for this one boys.

Point of reference: Fukuzawa

I’m gonna hit two points at once in this section:

Ranpo’s kneeling to Fukuchi here but he has no loyalty to Fukuchi. He’s kneeling out of loyalty to Fukuzawa, so in truth he’s kneeling to Fukuzawa’s will. He’s acting as Fukuzawa’s knight. Even if we pretend King and Lionheart wasn’t a fandom phenomena for years, this isn’t a parent-child thing. Ranpo is steadfastly faithful to his king.

But lo?? Ranpo’s a lying liar. He’ll face away from the president under exactly one condition: Fukuzawa’s life is hanging in the balance. Then he’ll go against the only thing he himself has said he’s willing to stand for. This is not how the parent-child trope works. The parent says “live for me, I’ll die for the greater good” and the child cries and the parent dies. It’s like. The most common movie plotline in the universe when adults' parents are in movies.

Instead Ranpo actually does something that another stated romantic couple in this series does.

Goes apeshit on the threat.

Then later he’s not even remorseful. He tells Fukuzawa they did it and eats a bunch of cake without a care in the world after. He’d do it again and we know it.* So his moral compass isn’t to follow the president, it’s actually to follow him up to his own good and then burn the entire city down if it’ll keep him alive. This is really the most damning of Ranpo behaviors that screams of something more than familial affection.

Fukuzawa’s lines when he's poisoned are “we must not fight the port mafia. My life isn't important, protect this city (from the inevitable damage the fighting will do).”

Ranpo’s argument to disobey him is that the port mafia will start taking their families hostage to get them to give Fukuzawa up. “And if that happens, even the detective agency will be forced to give in.” His argument isn’t even “our friends will be in danger,” it’s “if we don’t fight we'll have let them kill President Fukuzawa.” Which, you know, Fukuzawa already said was preferable to fighting.

So this whole argument is literally that ship meme: “I will sacrifice myself to save everyone.” / “I will sacrifice anyone to save you.”

*Ranpo’s near-complete lack of punishment for this is a subtle sign of Fukuzawa’s bias too but this is already too long.

Shirushi

Or the 4th season's opening song. This has not been easy I tell you WHAT most of the translations for this song’s lyrics leave something to be desired and song lyrics are hard to understand. Anyway, we have Shirushi, which Luck Life's vocalist said was about Ranpo and Fukuzawa. And it’s. Well I wouldn’t exactly call it a love song because it’s bigger with “you gave me a reason to live” as one of the recurring lyrics. But the song’s got more lyrics about wanting/wishing/pleading to stay together: “I want to stay here // please, let’s just stay here // I want you and I to continue” and them being together, the “here” in question, is called “the place where [my] heart belongs.” It’s so sweet aaaaaa and it most definitely sounds like a love song.

"I will be his shield"

Here we have the rare Fukuzawa point.

Ok can I skip explaining this it’s very very obvious and I already went over one of these things.

Normal thought process: I should keep an eye on this kid. Fukuzawa thought process: I will become his shield, his sword, his shelter, to allow his magnificent mind freedom to work its magic--

Two halves of one whole

This is a weak ass point but I always found it thematically contradictory to the father/son interpretation, particularly when it comes right on the heels of a certain line fancops like to reference.

At the beginning of Origins Fukuzawa literally parkours across a room, backflips and everything, shocking the guy with all the papers with his mad skills. And Fukuzawa thinks “What? Why? That wasn’t impressive.”

He’s hinted to be the physical counterpart of Ranpo’s hyper competence. I.E., Ranpo is the one-of-a-kind mind and Fukuzawa is the one-of-a-kind body. Together they become unstoppable.

This implies a bond that won’t end?? But parent & child plotlines always have a theme of the child growing up and moving on. Atsushi and the orphanage director, though they’re fucked up, personified it. But they’ve clearly established that Fukuzawa and Ranpo are two halves of one whole and neither of them are planning to separate at any point. What’s Ranpo gonna do, go become a regular cop?? This just doesn’t suit a father and son dynamic.

Jealousy

Alright this next part will take some effort but FIRST we must all agree there’s romantic tension between Fukuchi and Fukuzawa. When I initially drafted this the finale had not come out, but we STILL had this going on:

Ok, so we also have the finale and we know Fukuzawa has some Strong Feelings for Fukuchi too. And Ranpo friggin' hates it.

I don’t aim to eradicate the platonic reading of Fukuran or anything, Fukuzawa and Ranpo are cute together no matter what! So this does smack of a teenager mad about having a stepdad taking all their mom’s time. But I cycle back to what Fukuchi cites as the focal point of Ranpo’s jealousy for the other easy interpretation.

The only time in my life I’ve thought “Aw I wish we’d met sooner :/” and felt a little envy towards someone's high school friends was with someone I was dating. I’d never think anything to this effect about a family member, certainly not enough to get violently jealous of their old friends or, heaven forbid, significant others.

What Ranpo is wishing for here is to have known Fukuzawa longer than Fukuchi, which could not happen if he was Fukuzawa's son. Fukuzawa was too young to have children when he met Fukuchi. So Ranpo's jealousy doesn't seem strictly platonic.

Praise

I will never understand how anyone sees the praise scene and thinks it’s normal father-son behavior. Teenagers wouldn't wouldn’t be caught dead doing this. Adults are far beyond it. Ranpo’s 26. Yes he likes candy and can’t ride the train, but the trains in Japan are WORSE than driving and neither of these behaviors mean he's a literal child. He has a driver’s license and investigates corpses for a living. He’s an adult.

This is a textbook praise kink.

But what about-

Now, I did mention the line I know all the antis are getting ready to comment with, and I just don’t think this would be complete without the inflammatory “well actually” section. There have been many a tweet saying “Fukuzawa says he sees Ranpo as his son!”

Actually, he never does. They're explicitly called partners/buddies, however.

NOVA IT’S RIGHT HERE!!

Bad news kids: this isn’t an exact translation. It’s very sweet and all but that’s not what the Japanese actually says.

This line is closer to “I have a child in my care for my own reasons, too.” He didn’t say Ranpo was HIS child, there’s no possessive grammar here (heh no の). I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone argue that Fukuzawa didn’t see him as a child when he was, you know, a child, but the series doesn’t take place when Ranpo is a child. Also I don’t see how that has anything to do with Ranpo’s feelings at the time.

Well that’s semantics, Fukuchi says it too!! See??

This 1) is Fukuchi who has about 1000 reasons to be a fukuran anti that have nothing to do with ages and 2) isn’t a direct translation of the Japanese text either. It says “little favorite” in Japanese, and that’s it! “Little favorite” just sounds weird in English so the translators used a common phrase that people generally DON’T and SHOULDN’T use for their own kids (imagine if everyone knew you liked one of your actual kids better than the rest D:). I have it on good authority that the official Italian doesn’t say “favorite son” and I know the Japanese doesn’t, so this line is not cannon.

Well how about this!!!

I’m not really sure why this is referenced when it’s clearly the center of the chapter’s joke – the point is that Ranpo ISN’T 5, he just acts that way.

Plus I can throw this panel back from the same WaN chapter as an argument:

“Ranpo’s grown so handsome” or if you prefer, “Ranpo looks so virile now...” – rare simp Fukuzawa.

Well you can’t possibly deny this!!!

Congratulations, this is the only one with any merit! What it fails to do is prove Fukuzawa said it or remove any of the stuff already mentioned here. Ranpo could very much be in love with Fukuzawa. This line in origins is narration, not dialogue or thought, and it isn’t carried through in the narrative so it’s relatively easy to view it as a joke. The same book christens them “Tantei [Sou]jin,” same sou as in “[sou]koku,” with kanji meaning “Detective duo/detective twins/double detectives/detective partners” though I’ve also found it to mean something very near “equals.” The kanji are ‘subtitled’ as "Detective buddies” in English (katakana) in the Japanese book. All this throws multiple wrenches in the idea that they’re broadly viewed as parent and child or even as having a significant power imbalance between them.

Which brings me to my final point: none of this proves anything definitively! There’s plenty of material for both interpretations. The entire point of engaging with media is to develop your own interpretation and have fun with it. But freaking out and screaming your headcanon when a scene hits you as slightly different than that headcanon is very much screaming at the sky. Lord knows I’ve seen these four arguments enough times that if they were going to convince me of anything they already would have, and Asagiri sure can’t hear you.

I think everyone who doesn’t think this could be romantic at least from Ranpo’s side expects that romantic imagery/themes for this ship can only appear from Fukuzawa, and only if it’s predatory? Like as long as I don’t whip out a canon image like this

they’ll say “I would definitely do that with my parent” to every argument even if in reality they never, ever would.

I did recently see someone saying "why would Ranpo even like Fukuzawa, he's 30!" and listen, I can't help you there. I've had crushes on actors twice my age since I was 10, it's ingrained in my wiring. A sexy badboy bodyguard who declares himself to be at your service AND buys you food will never not be hot to me.

"What's attractive about Fukuzawa" requires another essay, however, so this is where I leave it. Obviously much of this is open to interpretation, but I don’t see people making skk posts that just say “BESTIES BESTIES BESTIES” or “BOYFRIENDS BOYFRIENDS BOYFRIENDS” ya feel. It’s always on panels like the ones I brought up, because people do recognize a romantic slant when they see one. You don’t learn to detect that from media, you learn it from living long before you start caring about morality politics in shipping. Thus I interpret the screaming very much as LALALALALALA I CAN’T HEAR YOU-

P.S. actually I do want to add one final note because I know what the fancops will say even if they take all this at face value: Grooming refers to “actions deliberately undertaken to befriend and establish an emotional connection with a child, to lower the child’s inhibitions in preparation for sexual activity.”

Dating someone you knew when you were underage does not equal grooming. Grooming is a purposeful crime. “Even if they’re dating now that’s grooming!” incorrect! Please do not only listen to your friends about the law, they may also tell you a cop has to tell you if they're a cop (they do not) or any number of other very wrong things. Google is free.

You had accepted his offer to accompany him for a stream, making sure to finish your work before sitting beside your demon boyfriend who was setting up for his stream

Vox muting the mic to greet his beloved, pulling a chair next to his own.

“Love, hey glad you can make it, just get yourself comfortable and if you need anything, don’t hesitate to let me know ok?” He gives a warm smile at you, squeezing your hand gently.

But unfortunately, you were already roughed up from the amount of work given to you so most of the time, you were trying to keep your eyes peeled open to Vox’s PC screen.

To no avail, the moving pictures keeps on hurting your sleepy eyes so taking a short nap would be fine right?

Yeah no you doze off half of the stream with your head on his shoulder, grumbling whenever Vox moved his arm slightly to adjust his position

His voice became background sound for you, lulling you more to sleep from his honey-coated suave voice.

Vox would actually notice that you dozed off but didn’t want to question it because he knew how hectic your work was

In the middle of your beauty sleep on his shoulder, he draped his haori on you gently, making sure you were comfortable.

He was playing games on the living room while you were tired af from stuffing your face with work

He isn’t dumb enough to not realize it; I know man’s a lil shit who doesn’t know how to differentiate mold and chocolate but he isn’t THAT of an airhead when he spots the dark bags underneath your eyes

“Come onnnnnnn, come here and give your boyfriend a hug, will ya?” He gives a wide grin, holding out his arms wide open for you to crush in them

You begrudgingly did, taking a sit on the empty spot beside him. He would pester you off work to have you sat beside him while he plays some games

It did work though, you manage to doze off for a good 15 minutes, only for your body to suddenly jolt when Mysta jumped from the game scaring him.

Man quickly dropped his controller to recover from two jumpscares straight away

“Babe, oh shit, you fucking scared me there. Is everything okay?” He has this concern tone, wrapping his arm around your shoulder.

“Mhm… just sleepy from all the work… it’s alright Mysta just continue your game.” You ushered him to go back to his game.

“Ok but go get some shut-eye alright? Just rest your head on my shoulder like you were sleeping earlier.” He excuses himself for a bit going in his room to grab a blanket and wrapped you around with it

“There you’re now all nice and comfy!” He gives a peck on the forehead before grabbing his controller and go back to the game infront of him

He’d lean his head against yours and even at one point slip his arm from beneath your armpit to interlace your fingers.

“You should give yourself a good break or two, y’know?”

Luca Kaneshiro

He was actually finishing up a collab stream with a few other members of Nijisanji, as for you, you were sleep deprived from the 0 days of sleep you got thanks to the amount of art commissions

When he ends the stream and turned off his PC, he immediately went out of his room to find you and pester you if he finds you unoccupied with your commissions

Its been awhile for him to spend time with you so he’s trying to steal some moments with you

His heart immediately sank when he sees you slouching infront of your computer screen colouring in the lineart the night away

He would sit beside you, poking you constantly just to get your attention and when he finally does he just gives the cutest smile he can muster and you swear you can see an imaginary tail wagging

“Let’s eat some cheddar cheese pringglesssss !!! I know that can cheer you up, POG!!!”

Literally is just trying to get you distracted from your work so you can get some rest

“No Luca, I need to do this okay? We can pog later once I’m done.”

Frowns sadly but he stayed there, waiting patiently for you to finally be done with work, he would be munching away some pringles or distracting you with his fugma jokes

But your eyes began to feel heavier as time goes by, your body getting sluggish from only consuming caffeine (my lifeblood), ending up falling asleep on Luca’s shoulder beside you.

At first, he was shocked from the sudden weight but smiles happily from you succumbing to sleep. Not forgetting to save your progress and switching off your computer. He leans his head against your shoulder.

“Go get some rest, baby, I’m always here if you need me okay? Hope you’re having pog dreams, hehe.”

Ike Eveland

Ike was watching youtube videos in bed at the ungodly hours and you were there beside him, watching his phone screen alongside.

You both couldn’t get some sleep for some reason and it’s all the more reason to just watch some videos on the internet to get your eyes all tired

So here you both are cuddling against one another, tucked beneath the fluffy blankets while Ike holds his phone horizontally

How you both are positioned is comfortable, your body is flat on the bed however your head is still positioned upwards, as if you’re reclining on the bed, leaning against the small pillows, cushioning your head from the hard wood headboard

“Are you comfortable, sweetheart? Want me to get some snacks? I heard that chocolate is  good to get you sleepy.” Ike pulls you in closer, nuzzling your head which is resting on his shoulder.

“Sure, let me get them then.”

You were about to move out from the little cuddle pile before Ike stopping in your tracks and run out of the room

When he came back, you were sat up to a cross legged position and had a pout on your face, arms crossed making him chuckle from your little antics.

“Oh, come on, I couldn’t just let you, you looked all nice and toasty.” He placed some of the chocolates on the nightstand of your side, walking to the other side of his room to repeat the action.

He grabbed his phone and continued to watch videos with you while nomming some of the chocolate

The next 4 or 5 videos, your eyes felt heavy for some reason as if the bright screen infront of you is hypnotizing you to sleep.

Shuffling a bit to get a better spot to fall asleep in, facing to the side so you can hug him close, nuzzling your head together as you slowly drifted to dreamland

Ike noticing this a bit late, was too engrossed in the next video that was playing, pulled the blankets so it can properly cover you, giving a kiss on your forehead.

“Good night, sweetheart. I hope we’ll meet in our dreams later.”

Shu Yamino

Man is infamous for staying up at ungodly hours but would legit be so concerned of you, seeing your dark eyebags ogling at the bright screen of your laptop while your fingers clicking the keyboard pieces to finish your essay that is due in god knows when!

He needed to come up with a temporary solution to get you to bed or just take a break from what you are working on

He was being shupport to several of his kouhais and senpais when he heard his door creaked open slightly

“Shu? Are you still up?” Your voice croaked from the other side of the door

He quickly muted his mic and see you enter his line of vision, giving you a wave at your entrance.

“Hey, babe. You finally finish?” At first man’s was happy that you finally decided to stop and take a well-deserved sleep.

“Nope. I was thinking on working right next to you if that’s okay, it just needs a bit more editing and proofreading.” You rubbed your eyes sleepily, Shu cursing in his head mentally. Literally.

He, of course, lets you sit next to him, on another note, a good thing for him! Because he can keep an eye on you and can minimize your writing tab when he thinks its enough for you for the day

As he’s talking to his colleagues, he would steal occasional glances at you, reminding himself about when to minimize your tab

But what caught him by surprise is that, while he was explaining to his senpai how to revert their Windows 11 back to windows 10, he felt something on his shoulder. He peered down to see you knocked out, your arms making their way to loop around his left arm, hugging it close to you.

He smiled from the sight, leaning forward to save your progress and put your computer into sleep mode.

Shu leans his head against yours carefully, not wanting to wake you up from your peaceful nap, as he continues to chat away in a hushed voice, typing in the channel for vc that you were sleeping next to him and he didn’t want to disturb you.

He mutes his mic for a quick second just to give another kiss on the temple while rubbing your knuckles softly.

“You can continue this tomorrow, lovely. Ot’shu’kare for today.” He chuckled at his own pun.

Hi guys! Year is coming to a close and I don't have it in me to make another piece, so I thought I'd just go ahead and share this now 😁

Ok so hmm... not much to say in comparison to my 2022 one! I definitely feel my sense of color has changed; my color palettes are way more dark and muted in comparison to last years. I also didn't draw as much in general so there's less to compare to... I actually feel like I kinda regressed in rendering and color because of how many breaks I took LOL

Not to say I didn't improve on anything tho!! I just focused more on facial structure than anything for some reason 😭😭

additionally I also didn't hit a lot of goals I made from 2022 either. I feel like a lot of the art I made was mostly self-indulgent without thinking too hard about my technical skills... which I don't think is necessarily bad because I enjoyed making all of these pieces :3 art as a hobby is fun

For 2024 art goals, I'm gonna borrow my 2022 ones: do more interior spaces, dynamic framing, and ofc better anatomy! I also wanna challenge myself to make more original pieces if i ever feel inclined to... Fanart is my favorite thing to make but I gotta learn to pull from my own creativity sometimes lol
