Hey guys,

So I went at all 14 parishes, for the first time in 2019. Most of my touring was for work, I worked with a research lab for a while. However, I did go touristing for fun. Here’s a recap:

St. Thomas

I went to St.Thomas several times in 2019 primarily for the beach.

St.Thomas

St. Thomas actually has a nice beach that isn’t too popular and it’s pretty easy to get to. Besides the last time I went, the water was beautiful. To get to the beach, I’d have to take a Morant Bay coaster from Downtown for $250 then take a Lysson taxi from Morant Bay town centre to Lysson’s beach for $100. To get into the beach it’s $300, it was $250 earlier this year and if you’re a UWI student it’s free but you’d have to get the pass from SAS before going there. This is a beach in St.Thomas. It cost $700 JMD from downtown to get there and go back.

You’re allowed to carry food on the beach and that’s usually what I opt for but there is a cookshop directly beside it you can opt for. For a reasonable $2000 or less I could pay for transportation, access to the beach and food.

Portland

Portland is my all-time favourite parish, I hope I can live here in the future. I went twice in 2019 for different reasons.

The first time was for work. I was working side by side with the vector control team for one day for research purposes. Since I was working, I didn’t really get to explore but I did go to a new place which was Snow Hill. I bought lunch from a roadside shack selling Jerk Chicken and festival. It cost under $500 and it was really good.

The second time, I went on a road trip with some friends. I did way more exploring here because, well, I had the time to. I spent maybe around $2500 on transportation, access to the beaches and food. My first stop was the Folly Ruins.

The next place I went to was Blue Lagoon, this was also a free option. I’m not that great of a swimmer so I didn’t venture off into the approximately 200ft lagoon.

After Blue Lagoon we went to Winnifred beach, it was my first time there and I absolutely loved it. The water was literally transparent. There was somewhere to buy food but I was saving my money for Boston jerk pork. There was also no cover charge but they asked that you contribute any amount. I did, maybe about $200.

After Winnifred Beach we went to Boston Beach. It was my second time there. This time I decided to try the jerk pork and I fell in love. I don’t remember how much I paid for it, maybe around $600 for the quarter and I paid for some festivals. They gave and charged me for an extra one I didn’t ask for but I can’t get mad in Portland. It wasn’t enough pork but I got what I paid for, next time I’ll stop being cheap and buy more. While I’m not 100 per cent sure of the cost for everything, I know for a fact I spent less than $1000 though. To get into Boston beach, I believe was $200 JMD.

St Mary

I never stopped and did anything in St.Mary in 2019 except drive through but I was there so it counts. In 2018 I went to Hamilton Mountain and the surrounding environs to help with vector control activities and lab work.

St.Ann

I went to St.Ann once in 2019 for work. I was helping with training at Shaw Park. Food and transportation was covered by the company of course so I only paid my regular fare to go home from work after we got back to Kingston. I did charter a taxi to get to the lab at 6am though but that wasn’t from my pockets either. Everything would have totalled $900.

I drove through St.Ann another time but that was also for work.

Trelawny

I went here for the first time. We stopped at a gas station right across the road from the sea. Really excited to come back here and find hidden gems. No one really speaks about Trelawny and what it has to offer but I’ll be figuring that out in 2020.

St. James

2019 was also the first time I went to St. James. I went maybe three times, all for work. It was also the first time I went to Montego Bay and as a Kingstonian, I think Mobay looks much better than Kingston.

Transportation was covered by the company, I spent maybe $500 on some food when I was in Mobay.

Hanover

I spent a whole lot of time in Hanover, okay I spent maybe 3 days but it was a lot of time to me. It was the first time going to Hanover and yes guys, it’s real and it’s beautiful. Hanover reminds me so much of Portland with its beauty. I went here for work and so transportation was paid for.

I wish I was able to explore the parish more but I only went from the hospital in Lucea to Cacoon Castle to help with vector control and gather things for research.

Westmoreland

I also spent a lot of time in Westmoreland for work. I mostly stayed in Negril but went to a couple other more rural places to collect data. When it rains over in the west, it pours. I learnt how to walk on steep surfaces in the pouring rain and not slide on swampy lands. Of course, transportation was paid for but I did spend some money on a box food and Popeyes in Savanna La Mar. All of that would have been maybe $1000 total.

We stayed in a quaint little resort across the road from the beach.

Pure Garden Resorts where I stayed. They’re very reasonable.

After work, I’d go over there for dinner. They’re not cheap, I bought some fried chicken strips and fries for maybe $700. I liked it so I got it the next time I was there and drank water. I save a lot of money just drinking water. The company would have helped with some of the cost of food on these trips though.

Burbon Beach

I liked Bourbon beach, not just because there was no entry free but the sunset was beautiful.

St. Elizabeth

I went to St.Elizabeth both for work and fun. While we mostly drove through St.Elizabeth I did get stranded outside Santa Cruz. Driving through St. Elizabeth to get to the rest of the west for work was always the most tiring part of the journey. It felt never ending.

Right at the border of Westmoreland and St.Elizabeth, you can get seafood or you can go up the road to Middle Quarter for shrimp. You’d spend no more than $1000. I spent nothing because I brought snacks and protected my pocket, even though I was travelling that time for work.

I also went to St. Elizabeth for a wedding. It was right outside Treasure Beach. I was tagging along with my mom so of course, I didn’t have to worry about transportation.

Manchester

I spent quite a bit of time in Manchester, primarily Mandeville and Porus. This was again for work and so transportation and food was primarily taken care of. I had fun walking up the steep hills and steps in Porus and Mandeville, it was a good work out.

Clarendon

Clarendon was mostly a drive through parish for me this year but I did stop at the Juici Patties in Toll Gates a couple times for a cheese patty.

St. Catherine

St. Catherine was another drive through parish for me. Hopefully I can explore this parish more this year.

St. Andrew

This is where I spent most of my time. I attended workshops, award ceremonies, movies, anything. You can read about it here:

I did touristy things too like go to Devon House and explore Gordon Town for the first time.

When it comes to St.Andrew, I get most of my fun from exploring restaurants. I went to South Avenue Grill for the first time 2019 for my solo birthday dinner.

Always looking for new experiences and restaurants in this parish. St. Andrew touring isn’t really considered travelling per say so I’ll leave the budget out of this one. I should mention that I got a free movie pass from work, entry to some workshops for free and free food so I still saved money.

Kingston

Ironically, Kingston was parish 14 even though I’m so near to it. I did a couple things in Kingston like boarding the coaster to go to another parish, attending an art festival, attend workshops like

Fare to go to Kingston and get home is capped at $200 and I didn’t pay for any of the events I went to.

My favourite thing about Kingston 2019 was seeing Waterfront and the Art festival. I sampled all sorts of wine from ackee wine, to sorrel wine and passion fruit wine.

Well, there you have it, a brief synopsis of what I did in all 14 parishes this year. I didn’t spend much out of pocket which was primarily because of the nature of my job. There are ways to cheaply tour Jamaica, the places I did go for fun didn’t break the bank either. I find that carrying food cuts down on the cost. You just have to do some planning. How can you defend shows like South Park?

because its not as black and white as "theyre trying to make people believe these sorts of things are okay" the reality quite literally is shock value with shows like south park, they are looking to offend you on some capacity and its been the primary goal of the show even when it was just some poorly made christmas special made to air once and only once on comedy central. in fact, south park creators matt and treys idea behind getting things through censorship is making one extremely awful joke that they are fully aware will offend people so that the other offensive things don't seem nearly as bad - while that works and it doesn't seem very ethical, it was their way of showing "hey you see these things? theyre bad and if you see people doing this stuff, know theyre bad people and feel free to treat them as shittily as possible." if you actually sit down and watch earlier seasons of both south park and family guy youll definitely see a stark different between older and newer seasons - however youll also notice that south park has always been out to show you offensive thing where as family guy was just supposed to be an easy parody of the simpsons.

anyone will tell you that family guy characters did have redeeming qualities in the beginning, they were actually slightly diverse characters rather than the unfunny, cynical cardboard cutouts they are now. however, later seasons were when things started to take a nasty turn - primarily starting with he blatant abuse and bullying of meg for no other reason than "we need to pick a character to be hated by the family how about the daughter" when that sort of dynamic was never actually in the show. both chris and meg were treated pretty much the same in early seasons (in fact, meg wasn't treated as the butt of jokes nearly as much as she is now) but as soon as they made that character dynamic shift everything started getting worse. it isn't character development its just they needed to 'spice things up' so they decided to dig more into the idea of shock value, taking notes off of south park whos main goal, again, was to shock people and offend them.

family guy could have been an endearing and enjoyable show, but seth funnymans shift in humor was to suddenly just be as offensive as possible to follow the south park formula. wanna know why? because seth doesn't know how to make anything original - his entire premise for family guy was to just copy the simpsons and when that started becoming stale he decided to steal the "be as disgusting as possible" from south park while also stroking his ego and pretending like hes making some sort of grand commentary on the world that south park OR the simpsons has already done. all of his other shows have the same formula as well, none of them actually stand out because he just chooses to not show any type of creativity - of the three hes had the only one thats even mildly enjoyable is the cleveland show and that was cancelled because nobody wants to watch his shit anymore. the only people who watch his shows anymore are frat boys and middle aged adult men while everyone else just keeps it on as background noise.

to assume a show molds you as a person and your personality is totally bogus - keep in mind a lot of people grew up watching both south park and family guy, even robot chicken, the simpsons, futurama, the boondocks, archer, frisky dingo, aqua teen hungerforce, the venture bros, squidbillies, and so many other shows with offensive and gross humor. i watched all of those shows as a kid and yes a lot of the time i was offended and i understood if other people were offended by them as well. i was also fully aware, even when i was like 13, that it wasn't okay to use those types of jokes in public. its more of an issue to do with maturity and self-awareness rather than the "snowflakes are too offended" syndrome. people lacking in self-awareness and maturity most of the time don't fucking understand why something is offensive so they assume everything MUST be offensive in some way and that theyre just being targeted for no reason. even seth funnyman has this sort of thought process because he himself cannot believe his creations are in any way untasteful.

yes im offended by a lot of the jokes and themes in shows but i still watch some of them because theres still some sort of entertainment in shows like south park. family guy, however, is on a whole different level for how mind-numbingly terrible it is. if thats the hill i die on im chill with it because i fucking hate family guy and its writers.

Choosing the right hotel, ryokan, or other place to stay in Kyoto is important—not from the perspective of having a comfortable bed and the most high-tech toilet (although having the right temperature of heated seat is important), but primarily due to location. (Last updated July 16, 2019.)

No matter how long you’re staying in Kyoto, you will not have enough time. This is something we’ve stressed in our posts about Kyoto, and it bears reiterating. There are such a high number of compelling temples, shrines, and other points of interest that it’s impossible to see it all during a single visit.

We’ve visited Kyoto multiple times over the last several years, and have stayed at several hotels, ryokan, and Airbnb rentals. In this post, we’ll make specific recommendations concerning where to stay within Kyoto, offer a few specific and generalized hotel recommendations, and offer the pros and cons of staying at a ryokan or Airbnb rental.

Let’s start with location, as this is going to be important regardless of the style of accommodations you choose. If you’re visiting Kyoto for 2 days or less, I’d recommend extending your visit. But seriously, in that case, you should determine which region of the city appeals to you most, and choose a place that is convenient to those points of interest.

In 2 days or less, you are not going to be able to see it all, so it’s best to not even try. Instead of criss-crossing the city, wasting time in the process, pinpoint an area. See as much as humanly possible in that area, and save everything else for a future trip.

In this case, my recommendation is staying near Inari (more on that below), which provides convenient access to Fushimi Inari, and relatively easy access to Higashiyama. If there are other things in Kyoto that pique your interest more, consider a different location. There aren’t any “wrong” answers here.

If you’re staying 3 days or longer, I think choosing a location near a transportation hub makes more sense, as this enables you easy access to all of the regions of Kyoto. The obvious pick here is Kyoto Station, which is Kyoto’s main artery for transportation. Not only is it easy to get anywhere in the city from here, but it’s easy to get to Osaka and Tokyo from here.

We also are really fond of staying just north of Kiyomizu-Gojo Station in the south part of Gion. We’ve done this twice now, in the exact same Airbnb, which is pictured above. We’ll likely return to this Airbnb, as it works perfectly for our needs.

For one, the Gion area is lovely, and being at its southern edge is cheaper and away from the touristy area where the hordes flock. Second, it’s convenient to the Keihan Line, which is our favorite railway line in Kyoto. Finally, it’s an easy walk to the Higashiyama District. As discussed below, we also like staying near Fushimi Inari for similar reasons.

Okay, now let’s break down the various types of places to stay, starting with hotels…

Hotels

Beyond location, one thing you have to consider with regard to hotels is whether they are Japanese or western style accommodations. While this is true no matter where you go in Japan, the two most popular tourist spots in Japan are Tokyo and Kyoto, and the former has far more western chains that offer familiar accommodations to Americans.

In Kyoto, western chains are far less common. There are a few popular hotels, such as the Hyatt Regency Kyoto (pictured above), which earns bonus points from us due to its location in Higashiyama. Another option in this same general (desirable) area is the Westin Miyaka Kyoto.

There’s also the Ritz-Carlton Kyoto in this same area, which is one of the nicest Ritz Carlton hotels in the world. If you’re a real high-roller, Four Seasons Kyoto (pictured at the top of the post) is superlative. Soon, the Park Hyatt Kyoto will open in the best location of all–the heart of Higashiyama. Kyoto Century Hotel, or as I call it “Lamp Shrine Inn,” is one specific hotel at which we’ve stayed that really sticks out to me as being good, both in terms of location and quality (the top photo of the giant lamp is its lobby…hence the moniker). It’s about a 5-minute walk from Kyoto Station, which is about as close as you can get. Like many hotels in Japan, the exterior is fairly nondescript, but the inside is nice and the rooms are a cross between Japanese and western styles.

There are a lot of other hotels in Kyoto that offer western style rooms, and my only general advice beyond the above is to not be tempted by ones that are downtown. In Kyoto, downtown is not the best place to stay. Fortunately, most of the nice hotels that pitch themselves as downtown are actually near Kyoto Station or Higashiyama. (I think they probably realize there’s allure to “downtown” for foreign visitors.) If you’re looking for a hotel beyond what we’ve listed, just consult a map and make sure the location is good.

Ryokan

A ryokan is a traditional style of Japanese accommodation that originated during the Edo period, when such inns served wayward travelers en route from place to place. They exist today as something between a remnant and an homage to the past.

They typically feature tatami-matted rooms, traditional yukata for guests to wear, and common spaces for guests to interact with other patrons and the owner. They also sometimes (but not always) feature communal baths (the idea of this was extremely awkward to me at first, but I’ve come around). Due to the more spacious nature of the ryokan, it’s typically something you’ll only find outside of Tokyo.

Now, it wouldn’t surprise me if some of you took one look at the above photo and instantly ruled out the ryokan. Perhaps the bedding looks uncomfortable or the idea of sleeping on the floor turns you off. Or, maybe you are like me and don’t like the idea of going full frontal in front of a bunch of strangers.

Well, let me “reassure” you: the bedding is about as comfortable as a normal hotel mattress in Japan and…well, at least you won’t get hurt falling out of bed? Also, the public nudity thing is something you get over quickly once you realize no one cares about what you look like naked. (Or perhaps that’s just me…) In any case, many ryokan have private bathroom options for “shy” tourists.

In all seriousness, before you rule out the ryokan, give it serious thought and look at some of the options. We consider the ryokan to be one of the quintessential Japanese experiences, and it’s definitely worth trying to get over some of your hesitations for this. If the idea of a ryokan is a non-starter, you probably should stick to an American chain in Kyoto. Japanese preferences favor firm mattresses, and we’ve had some that make ryokan pads feel like floating in a floor-level cloud by comparison.

Machiya

Machiya are traditional wooden townhouses that are iconic to Kyoto and probably what you picture when thinking of a traditional Japanese townhome. Machiya were popular with Kyotoites in the last century, up until around the post-World War II development boom in Japan that resulted in more ugly concrete towers (to put it charitably).

Many machiya survive today, and there has been a concerted effort in recent years to restore and redevelop machiya, and even build new structures in this classic style. Machiya continue to serve as homes to Kyoto residents, while others have been converted to vacation rentals, shops, and restaurants. There’s even a Starbucks in one converted machiya!

Machiya interior design is quintessentially Japanese. Inside, you’ll find tatami mat floors, minimalist decor, fusuma doors/screens separating rooms (which sometimes serve dual purposes), and exposed wood. The design of machiya is deceptively simple, but like most Japanese design, there are many pleasing details that make the spaces lovely and inviting.

We’ve stayed in a variety of machiya throughout Japan, and highly recommend the experience. In Kyoto, most machiya are found in Gion and Higashiyama, which are great areas of the city. (You’ll also find some in Arashiyama, but we don’t recommend that part of Kyoto quite as enthusiastically.)

Best of all, you can book machiya via Airbnb or your preferred hotel booking site. In both cases, you’ll pay a bit of a premium over non-machiya accommodations, but we’d argue that it’s worth the money for the unique, distinctly Japanese experience. We’d recommend going the Airbnb route over booking a machiya hotel. Speaking of which…

Airbnb Rental

Pretty much whenever we travel internationally, we check out prices on Airbnb–particularly if we are visiting during a busier season. In Japan, we’ve visited during sakura season (cherry blossoms), fall foliage, and Golden Week, and have thus encountered high hotel prices. Instead of paying those rates, we looked to Airbnb. In case you’re unfamiliar with Airbnb, we have a post on our Disney blog that discusses our Tips for Using Airbnb and provides some general background.

We prefer Airbnb to booking hotels because it gives us the option for a much larger room, usually an entire apartment. Japanese hotel rooms (that are not Western chains) tend to be very small, and using Airbnb is the best way to avoid this issue. A lot of Airbnb flats are “ryokan style” in terms of the guest quarters, which also provides a slice of authentic culture. (If this isn’t for you, just made sure to get an Airbnb with proper beds–a variety of styles are available.)

Obviously, the lower price is the biggest selling point of Airbnb. It’s also nice that many rentals can accommodate larger parties without an extra per person charge (as is common in Japan). Plus, Airbnb hosts often include free MiFi so you can use the internet on the go. We’ve had some fun experiences staying at unique Airbnb locations throughout Japan and really cannot recommend it highly enough. We’ve had several excellent Airbnb experiences in Kyoto, including two month-long stays (one near Kyoto Station, the other near Fushimi Inari). For a longer trip with side trips elsewhere in the Kansai region, we’d recommend being near Kyoto Station or in Gion. For a short 2-3 day trip, the Fushimi Inari area is absolutely perfect.

I don’t like visiting Kyoto for fewer than 3 days, but if we ever have another short stay in Kyoto, I’d book the Fushimi Inari Airbnb we’ve used in the past once more. (The one we rented is pictured above. If anyone wants more info on this unit, let me know in the comments–I’ll dig up our reservation details.)

Of course, you don’t necessarily need to rent this same unit–the general location is good enough. I like this area because Kiyomizu-Gojo and Inari are both on the Keihan Line (separated by 4 stops), making it convenient to accomplish everything along the spine of the Higashiyama mountains, starting with Philosphers’ Path and ending with Kiyomizu-dera Temple. You can then do Fushimi Inari late at night, or early the next morning.

This works because Fushimi Inari is one of the few spots in Kyoto that is open 24/7. If you have limited time in Kyoto, doing Fushimi Inari early in the morning or late in the night is pretty much a must. Not only does it allow you to extend your day, but the experiences at Fushimi Inari without crowds are second to none. (We have done Fushimi Inari at sunrise and late at night many times.)

I think that about covers the pitfalls and our recommendations for where to stay in Kyoto, and which kind of accommodations might appeal most to you. I’m guessing I made the decision of where to stay in Kyoto slightly more complicated, but hopefully I didn’t overcomplicate the decision for you. I will say that some “complication” is good here, as it’s easy to make a bad choice when it comes to Kyoto (we did on our first visit!) On the plus side, it’s pretty easy to make a good decision once you have a bit more info–and hopefully this post has set you on the right path!

1. That was not the argument at hand in the OP: The argument was whetehr or not the shows you listed where better than RWBY.

And 2. I actually did compare RWBY to them. And I even pointed this out the last time you tried this and said how it was an example that RWBY stands up even to professional shows.

But, guess it’s easier to fight a strawman huh?

Primarily out of curiosity. To see if they still held up even after all these years, and to see how they compare to RWBY. IMPO, they are BETTER. Oh wait, that’s an opinion that makes RWBY seem mediocre in comparison, no WONDER you think that all I do is bash RWBY despite the fact that I want to love the show. It makes SO Much SENSE NOW.

And I realized that the show, Beast Wars, one of the very FIRST 3D Animated shows ever aired, is better than RWBY.

So no, you were not saying an opinion, you were trying to pass off an opinion as fact. As you are still doing now. And half of your argument is strawmaning me for pointing this out by twisting the facts: if you are so right, you wouldn’t need to do this.

1. So, if Cinder is supposed to be hated, why are we shown her having regrets about things? Why are we shown her to be in pain? These are things that are done to give us a reason to sympathize with a villain, but we have yet to actually be SHOWN or even TOLD what her reasons are for wanting power. She’s supposed to be sympathetic in those scenes in Vol 4, but earlier she acts like a villain who is aware that she’s evil, and is okay with that. Also, the Joker is a force of nature, no villain can top him. But Rampage utterly DEMOLISHES Cinder in the ‘motive’ department.

because she was give n some humanity, some flaws, to make her less two dimensional. By this logic, because the Joker has a tragic backstory, we are meant to feel sorry for him when that is clearly not the case.

And here’s a problem I stated in the argument: Beast Wars is finished. RWBy is not. In the future, we could very well get more information on Cinder’s motives. You can’t make judgements like these until you have all the facts: And yet you are making broad strokes about RWBY.

No...The Joker is not a “Force Of Nature” villain: Darkseid is an example of that type of villain. The Joker is the “Insane, tricky, unpredictable, chaotic trickster” type of villain. This is a problem you have here: You cannot tell the difference between two types of characters. It’s like saying Shinji Ikari is a better protagonist than Goku: they are not compatible. In fact: That in and of itself is a problem here. Rampage was built t be the “Tragic insane” character whereas Cinder is the “power hungry manipulator” villain: they are not compatible thus the argument comes down to who you like subjectively better and in an argument, that means jack shit.

And another thing: You STILL don’t explain jackshit abut your side: How does rampage crush Cinder in motive? Why does he? You can’t just claim these things as fact.

Cindy is the girl who is jealous that her title of “The Smartest” was toppled, and Libby has an obsession over music - something that EVERYONE has, or at least KNOWS a person who is.

Except that I don’t feel like an outcast because of my intellect, in fact, it wasn’t because I had something over other people but rather I LACKED something from them. So Jimmy would seem pretentious and entitled to me. Not everyone has a weird obsession and definitely doesn’t have medical conditions. And you missed the ACTUAL chance to be right and say “Kamina or Simon The Digger”, two characters I heavily look up to. Instead, you bring up an attack on me that makes you look like an ass.

Weiss has her overcoming her racism, learning to put aside her grievances with Ruby to work with her and become her best friend and her admiration of her sister Winter. Blake has her cowardice, her martyr complex, her issues with Adam as well as her inability to let people help her. yang has her maturity, her depression and overcoming it, her good nature, her relationship with Ruby and her father, her duality with her mother and her tendency to be harsh towards those she cares about. You do not give an example of how they are better characters beyond being relateable which RWBY has as well.

Rotzooi. this isn’t actually a swear word, but it is something i say a lot. and with living abroad people think it is a swear word, and i do use it as one. it literally means garbage or crap. in terms of “swearing” i basically only use rotzooi and fuck. it is just what i say whenever something goes wrong.

if you could send two things from your country into space, what would they be? this is a difficult one! definitely something about our war against the water, because i just think that is a really fascinating and cool. i think it is really something that shows of how smart people can be. i love how much land we reclaimed, and that we made a lake for safety reasons, but also that we have created specific places with the intention that they can be flooded (like a parking garage/park/mall that acts both as a dam and as an area that can be flooded instead of other parts of the country)

I love the actions about “making space for the river”, and how now with increase in sea levels, some of the more extreme people are already suggesting how maybe some parts of the country need to be given back to the sea. and how we should make the ijsselmeer (our man made lake) deeper and create extra dams. it is just so cool.

so i would probably go for information about the deltawerken/delta works (it is considered one of the seven wonders of the modern world, so go us!! it is really impressive i think), and information about the ruimte voor de rivier (space for the river) project and everything that means.

we just have so much cool stuff about water, and both reclaiming land from it, but especially in more recent times, learning to respect it and that you still have to give it space. and just learning to manage the water so you can coexist in a peaceful way. it is impressive stuff!! (my region had like nothing to do with it, because we are in no danger of water, but it is impressive and cool)

what other nation is joked about most often in your country? okay so where i am from, south limburg, we primarily joke about the hollanders (and also the rest of the country, we just tend to refer to everyone who isn’t us, as hollanders, which is a little dumb) i think it is because we are located so close to the neighbouring countries, but so far from the majority of the rest of the country. but if we had to choose one neighbour it would definitely be the belgians, and i think that is true for the entirety of the country. it just makes sense because the majority of them speak the same language, which makes it easier. plus they are very easy to make fun of. they’re a little strange sometimes, and as a group they don’t have their shit together. (they do as individuals but if you look at the country as a whole, then it is a mess)

The police officer (whose name I can't even read on the ticket because it is just a scribble) gave me a ticket for speeding and failure to stop at a stop sign. Honestly I was not paying much attention because I drive through this stop sign everyday but I distinctly remember there was a car already at the stop sign coming from the left so I HAD to stop. There was absolutely no one else coming from any of the four sides, so I might have not stopped completely but I did slow down almost to a stop and then kept going. Then like I said I was going at 36 on a 20 zone. This was at 2 a clock in the morning when there was literally not a soul around. The police officer was practically hiding in a dark, empty parking lot and came out of no where. I really don't want to make excuses for myself. I know what I did was wrong and I'll admit it.
