Kamen Rider Zi-O

This Kamen Rider drama had a really interesting storyline, it actually truly intrigued me, Sougo's lifelong wish to become a king and Geiz's and Tsukuyomi's determination to stop him from turning into an evil overlord and destroying their world, first by killing him outright, then later on, when they realized that Sougo was good to the bone, sweet and kind and loyal, by watching over him. I also liked that we got to meet so many other Kamen Riders while Sougo was collecting their rider watches. And I loved the relationship between Sougo and Geiz. And the final battle was incredible, the drama truly went out with a bang and not a whimper.

But!

But the writers also sacrificed emotional impact for flare. Don't get me wrong, the really emotional scenes - always between Sougo and Geiz, go figure - were incredible, well written and well acted, but they were few and far between. When you compare it to, for example, Kamen Rider Revice, it really doesn't hold water because Revice was hitting those notes every other ep or three, even at its weakest point, it was all about the feels. Whereas Zi-O went BIG, sacrificing a lot of the little emotional things at the altar of a blockbuster. I wish they'd found a better balance because that would've made the drama perfect.

ngl that was the cutest line delivery I've heard in a while, it was so good and a bit unexpected. Like Tohma's voice raising a bit at the end indicating that he actually thinks it's really adorable how his boyfriend keeps attracting attention, like he admires it (even if we know he's the jealous type lol). Also the perfectly timed raise of his fingers like he's internally going "yay" just to lighten the mood since Natsume was worried. Chef's kiss Toyoda Yudai.
