Denuncian que el político ha sido encerrado una y otra vez en una pequeña celda de hormigón sin ventilación como castigo por su supuesta desobediencia civil y que tampoco se le permiten ni visitas de familiares o abogados, ni llamadas telefónicas. “Pese a tener fiebre alta, tiene que pasar todo el día de pie”, lamentan, en alusión a sus recientes enfermedades, que le hicieron perder hasta ocho kilos de peso. La carta exige que Navalni sea examinado por médicos independientes y le permitan recibir atención médica como han pedido 600 doctores, cien abogados y otro centenar de diputados municipales rusos. Hello everyone and am I glad it’s Friday today?? 😅 It’s my first week back to work post COVID and even though I don’t seem to be experiencing long COVID symptoms, I’ve still been very tired. This book haul was a treat after I met bestie @keeperofpages in London for a catch up. 🥰 When I Sing Mountains Dance was a cover/title buy but I’m totally won over by the synopsis too. It’s described as being as much about the mountains and mushrooms 🍄🤨 as about the human drama that unfolds in their midst. I’m intrigued. Secondly, I’ve had my eyes on Maps Of Our Spectacular Bodies for a while. It’s described as a passionate coming of age story, a meditation on illness and death and a kaleidoscope journey through one woman’s life - told in part by the malevolent voice of her disease. Yes please. Next up, Hurricane Season which I’m planning to read quite soon. The Witch is dead. And the discovery of her corpse by a group of children propels the whole village into an investigation of how and why this murder occurred. Finally, I picked up this title because… how could you not?! Drive Your Plow Over The Bones Of The Dead is a suspenseful and entertaining re-imagining of the detective genre interwoven with poignant and insightful commentaries on our perceptions of madness, marginalised people and animal rights. It has been one long hiatus, a lot of things happening in life took over my attention. I don't think I need to explain myself, it is 2020 after all. But now that I am back and have new books on my shelves again that I cannot wait to devour one by one.

When this collection first reached home I was visibly suprised to notice that they were all fiction. Some weeks ago I had written this really long entry into my journal where I talked about how it was almost getting nerve wrecking for me to pick a good, fresh fiction novel again because of how choosy I had become over the years. I had transitioned to non-fiction a long time ago as I thought everyone does eventually and also, it suited my academic needs very well back then. And ever since then, other than a few short stories here and there, or some really mad popular novels that I am recommended more than a dozen times, I had hardly gone beyond the non-fiction genre. Coming back home during this pandemic I found myself in front of a stack of all fiction novellas from my preferences 6 years ago. I am embarassed to say that I immediately looked down upon them and proceeded to read a few memoirs and academic papers on my laptop instead. The fact that I ended with this stack right here shows how I did not stick to the heavy stuff like I planned to either.

I am learning about my own reading habits, with a lot of introspection involved. I am consciously trying to change a few things that I find problematic right now even if they weren't a few years back. It is a process, and all I need is some patience and more books around me.

Avete sentito? Ma che mondo è questo? Today I went to the reading circle for the first time. I was also invited to read a part of the book “Opowieści Bizarne”. It was actually more fun than I expected. the group was quite small, mostly older people. My friend Mary and I were the only younger ones. We read and then we talked about the stories. I found the discussions very interesting because we all had different opinions. It was fascinating to see this generation gap, which did not hinder us from discussing what we think. I also got some constructive feedback on how to read out loud, which was pretty nice, as I can improve my own skills thanks to this.
