confession time no one asked for:

back in july 2021, i wasn't sure if i wanted to start watching young royals because it's a little odd thing of mine maybe, but i am not very fond of getting engaged in new things and of change in general lol anyway.

first episodes in, i fell in love with the cinematography first and foremost. i adored how wilhelm broke the fourth wall. i began to warm up with the (beautiful) story, the characters, the plot, the vibes, the music.

but nothing, i say nothing, prepared me for simon calling his elitist snobbish classmates out on their bullshit causing me to unironically begin applauding in the middle of my room whilst whisper-shouting:

"i knew that kid was something special the moment he entered the frame. bravo, new fictional best friend."

it was at this moment that i realised this show and i were going to have a long history together.

and i was so right.

getting BTS news as someone who's interested but doesn't follow music industry news at all, and also finds it difficult to invest in celebrity news generally, means I'm mostly just seeing headlines trending on Twitter and trying to poorly piece together context

this summer has been a rollercoaster. first they drop a new album and i'm like 'oh? they can do that?' (still havent heard any of the new songs lol) and then they announce they're 'taking a break to work on solo stuff' (and their label's stocks PLUMMET) to which im like 'yeah makes sense its honestly about time, dont they have to do military stuff soon too?' (also Hobi drops that album which I only bothered to watch one MV for and loved and never listened to the rest rip)

but then they're not taking a break because they keep posting group stuff on their youtube?? and now they're doing shows I guess?? i'm confused but like OK sure?? short break I guess

it started trending on Twitter yesterday that they officially announced they're going to do their military service (which like?? yeah?? I figured??), 'starting with Jin' (my fave but also he's a year overdue so this isn't surprising) 'after he releases his solo album' (!!!!!) which is actually just a single (... still excited but a single isn't an album...)

anyway and now it's trending that South Korea expects to lose a bunch of money if these boys do their mandatory military service (which is basically the exact same reaction after their 'break' was announced). wonder what will be trending on Twitter tomorrow

no, because i was doing the exact same thing yesterday (removing the "needles" from the green beans and removing the peas from the inside of the larger ones/ preparing them for being cooked in general), and, boy, I WAS NOWHERE NEAR AS HOT* AS OMAR DOING IT.

Thoughts and pictures - S3E1

So after digesting my first watch a little bit, I'm starting my rewatch of this season and I'll share a few thoughts and reactions (and screenshots) because I can't keep it all to myself 😱

I was happy that we dived directly into the (sort of) trial and confrontation between Wilhelm, Simon and August. I do wonder how much time passed between the speech and this scene though. It sets the tone for the entire season for Wilhelm: he's gonna be alone, with no support whatsoever from his parents. He enters the room alone, his parents arrive after him and his mother doesn't even look at him... Simon arrives with his mother and August with his stepdad. But Wilhelm has to deal with the situation alone (aka how to get incredibly mad at Kristina barely 5min into the season 😤)

Simon looks so pretty and so sad. (And how did Omar manage to look even younger this season??) He wants to be done with this whole thing. Also I checked but 1.2 millions kronor is not as much as I thought it would be (it's apparently around 107 000€, which is not bad, but I was expecting more)

I see what you did there Simon 😏 (Can someone gif this scene and put it in parallel with Wilhelm seeing Simon's room for the first time and saying "cozy" in season 1? :p)

The boys coming back to the meeting: very smooth. Nobody knows what you were doing. Nop. Not at all. (We can see Linda kinda smirking when Simon sits back whereas Kristina looks like she just ate a very sour lemon). Wilhelm arranging his hair and Simon smiling at him: they might be in the middle of an important meeting and at the Palace but they're still 2 teenage boys in love (and I love them for that 💜)

Rickard looked and sounded like such an idiot in the previous seasons that I didn't expect him to actually be competent! But I guess we were mostly seeing him through August's eyes... I know Rickard said he was the best lawyer in the country but I have to admit that I thought he was just bragging ^^' Also: August is such an asshole. Did he really need to rile up Wilhelm like that? He's got quite the confidence to attack him and tell him how he just fuck things up on his own, in front of everyone like that, including the queen. Who, again, is not defending her son!! She tells them to shut up but she says nothing to August for talking like that to her son 😠

(They look like they've been called to the principal office). Kristina doesn't look at them immediately, she looks at Erik's picture on her desk first. Then she looks at August. And then finally at Wilhelm. She is so awful to him this season... Right from the start. And then she breaks down crying for Erik.

While Wilhelm holds her. I wasn't expecting to see her grieve so much this season. We didn't see that at all in season 2. Is it because she repressed all of her emotions too much? I hate that she breaks down like that just after Wilhelm publicly coming out. How can she not be there for him. I get that it must be hard to lose a son, but she still has a very alive one, who needs her.

Kristina is not getting redeemed in this season but Linda kinda is! I was super happy to see her get in mama bear's mode at the trial ^^ It was about time!! But here: I'm sorry Linda but it's not your son's role to keep you updated about what's going on in your house! You're the mother! Stop putting everything on this kid's shoulders!! Maybe he never tells you but do you ever ask??

Simon being truly angry at Sara is so good. I am so happy so he's able to feel that way and to not feel like he has to repress it, to forgive her, to help her. She did something truly bad and he's allowed to be mad. Also look at his angry lil' face 💜

In things that made me laugh: Wilhelm's reaction and face to learning that Simon is grounded all semester xD He was talking all smoothly/flirty and then his tone changes so dramatically when he realizes he won't be able to get his boyfriend in his bed very soon! Horny boy is horny (and frustrated :p)

This faaaaaace ☹

I'm happy to see that Simon still has Ayub and Rosh here to support him. I wish they would have told him that replying to comments online was a bad idea though. You know the saying kids: don't feed the trolls!!

Wilhelm looks like such a normal teenager when he gets back to his room. First time we see him so carefree. It breaks my heart to know that on the other side Simon is so unwell already.

Wilhelm waking up happy and smiling. And being just a teenager (for the first time in a very long time): thinking about his boyfriend, redrawing the heart on his hand. It's such teenager things!! My boy just wants to have a normal life... (And then he's immediately reminded that he's actually not just a regular teenager with Farima's text).

Simon's worried face when he asks about Wilhelm's initiation. You can see he's truly horrified at the idea that he might have gone through what's been described in the article.

And then it starts: the piling up of everything on Wilhelm's shoulders. First his mother looking really unwell and breaking down (even though she hasn't been said to be officially ill yet), and now the negative impact of his speech on the school... Which Vincent takes great pleasure in reminding him about.

This first episode is really good at setting things in motion. We see already the beginning of what's gonna go down during this season: Simon not feeling well, dealing with online hatred, struggling with his new place next to Wilhelm in the spotlight. And Wilhelm trying to finally live a carefree life at school with his boyfriend now that he's officially out but slowly getting crushed under the pressure of his role as Crown Prince and the increasingly obvious lack of support from his parents.

Club meeting p. 1

Angelina sat at the chipotle table on campus, deciding to take her long break alone in peace. While she ate her burrito bowl, a boy walked up to her and stood next to her table. 

“Hi angel, can I sit?”

“Of course Omar, have a seat.” She smiled up at him, welcoming him to her table, and breaking her loneliness for the moment.

“Why thank you, madam. I assume your friends are coming by so I won’t stay too long, just wanted to catch up with the most fun girl on campus.”

“Damn straight. What’ve you been up to?” She asked him inquisitively.

  “I was in my office hours for finance and there was this really cute redhead senior, and this bulky freshman I talked to, I’m going to study them tonight.” He beamed with energy, showing that he was very enamored by his new friends.

“Mmm they sound fun…” Angelina snickered lightly, snapping her fingers. “Remember the spiral, Omar.”

“Whaa…ohhhh… Yes, my queen.” Omar’s face went blank and his eyes glassy as his brain turned off, back to the way Angelina kept her pet boy. 

“You still have the spiral on your phone, Omar. Show them your phone and make sure that they come to our secret meeting tomorrow. Leave and wake up like nothing happened on your walk home.” Angelina continued to softly laugh in a confident way, admiring the hypnotized student in front of her took in everything he said 

“Yes, my queen.” Omar stood up and walked away inconspicuously, on a mission his conscious mind didn’t even know that he had to complete

Angelina picked up her own phone and dialed her roommate Jasmine. “Hey babe, two more are gonna be joining us tomorrow night. We can make the preparations tonight.”

If you could pick ONE person to make it to the Final Season with Clem, outside of the obvious choices (Lee, Kenny, Luke, etc.) who would it be?

Optional: How do you think they'd affect the course of season 4?

If I could pick one person? Duck. Surviving with Clem from S1 to the finish line, I feel like there's some things he can change.

If he woke up in the room with Clem, he'd could probably be a bit of a mediator between the two, he'd probably take charge a bit and not let her size Tenn up.

In terms of people he'd get along with, Willy, Brody and Mitch come to mind. Once that slightly laid back personality starts coming out, I feel like Aasim would try to lump him in Louis. Duck would probably respect a lot of Louis' outlooks on post-apocalypse life.

During the card game at dinner, I bet answering questions would be hilarious.

C: "What's the grossest thing you've ever eaten?" V: "Oh that's easy, uh, horse eyeballs." M: "Slugs." L: "Cantaloupe." C: "I ate a guy's leg once?" D: "No you didn't!" C: "Oh, right, that's was you." D: "Y-... Hey!" V: "..." M: "..." L: "..." D&C: "We're kidding!" L: "... Are you?"

I imagine, the night they find out Marlon & Brody's secret, I feel like he would either go with Clem or she'd ask him to stay with AJ.

If Duck was there, would he see AJ and stop him? More than likely not on time, the moment he saw him (because literally nobody saw him, but Duck has good hearing and a good eye as we see in S1). Duck would see AJ the second he's about to pull the trigger and it's too late.

It's morning, AJ asks if he's a murderer. Duck would instantly tell him no, but try to explain what he did was considered murder. Naturally, confusing AJ. So Clem would take over.

Tenn comes and gets them for funeral, they come back and wait for the vote. They have to leave.

I feel like on the walk, Duck would quietly ask Clem if it's possible they can try Richmond, but Clem would say it's still too risky.

I mean just imagining Duck running into Lilly again and all I can hear is:

"Kenny's kid...?" "Lilly...?" "Great. I don't suppose your dad's around here, is he?" "Lucky for you, he's not." "Hmph. So he's dead then." "Well, duh...?" "???"

I think he'd be a sharpshooter from the windows. So when Lilly grabs Tenn, he'd shoot her in the arm. I think Tenn would get him to move, and I don't think Mitch would charge then. So... Mitch spared?!

Would he be captured? Yeah, I think so. I think he'd sacrifice himself for either Vi or Lou.

Would Duck be maimed on the boat? Oooh, I dunno. I think since he's more survival toughened, he wouldn't talk more than the Delta found permissible unlike Louis, even though Louis was trying to help Aasim and Omar.

But, when the bomb goes off, hearing in one of his ears is damaged. It's a bit more muffled.

He'd probably be strong enough to fricking yeet Tennessee on the other side of the bridge the minute he pulls that stunt with Minerva.

Which may or may not lead to him being bit. He doesn't get devoured, but Tenn does get him bit. Which pisses AJ off. So Duck missing one of his arms? Ye?

I think he'd get Clem up before she's bit herself, but that doesn't mean we might not have to ditch her leg because of what Minnie did to it on the bridge.

Sorry, it's all over the place but these just came to mind as I was typing, lol!
