Whenever I see antis saying that Zuko was rude or selfish to confront Katara about her anger towards him, I always have to roll my eyes at the attempt to make a big deal out of a conflict that was already solved in canon, and there's a lot to be said about how Zuko is actually the only one to care enough about Katara's emotional state to recognize that she needs help, and that's something the show literally spells out by having the others just sit there confused (even though they were there when Katara told them about how she felt about Zuko and his betrayal in Ba Sing Se, so it's odd that none of them seem to understand what's going on when it's quite obvious to the viewers.)
But another aspect of this is that Katara's behavior is explicitly a cry for help. A lot of her angry and dramatic reactions towards Zuko are extremely over-the-top, not to characterize Katara as unreasonable, but to show that Katara's bitterness towards Zuko is masking the hurt she felt towards him. In "The Western Air Temple," she spells this out to the gaang, telling them that she felt like he was really confused and hurt, and that she felt sorry for him, but then states that he was just pretending to be a real human being. Of course, Katara does not really believe that Zuko is not a real person with feelings, and her confrontation with him later in the episode reveals that her anger at him actually stems from knowing that he's actually all too human. Because she knows now that he's capable of making mistakes, even when his intentions are good.
The fact that Katara chooses to confront Zuko alone at the end of this episode also makes Zuko confronting her at the beginning of "The Southern Raiders" a circular part of their arc. What's that about yin and yang always circling each other?
But what's more, is that Katara continues to have these exaggerated reactions to Zuko, often going out of her way to needle him. This is not the behavior of someone who wants nothing to do with another person. It could be behavior indicative that Katara wants to hurt Zuko because he hurt her, but then you have situations like her asking to hear his tea joke, which she wouldn't do if all she wanted was for him to stay away from Aang.
Then, when Zuko saves Katara from falling rocks at the beginning of "The Southern Raiders," her reaction is immediate and accusatory at him landing on top of her. It's a very obviously romantically coded scene, and a large part of the humor is derived from Katara acting like Zuko is doing it on purpose, which of course he is not. There's no way Katara would really think that, right? So why does she accuse him of it?
I would argue that she did it for the same reason she confronted him alone in "The Western Air Temple," the same reason she makes exaggerated statements about his lack of humanity, the same reason she is constantly needling him.
Katara wants Zuko's attention. She wants him to know how she feels, all the anger, hurt, and betrayal, and thus, all the things she did feel under Ba Sing Se, when she thought it was possible that he was someone she had connected with. And she wants to know if he feels the same way, and is angry if he doesn't, or angry if he does, because that makes the betrayal even worse.
So when Katara makes another needling comment towards Zuko before stalking off, while everyone but Zuko continues to sit and puzzle over what could possibly be wrong, I'm pretty sure that some part of Katara wanted Zuko to follow her, to ask her what was wrong, to care.
The fact that she forgives him at the end of the episode is confirmation of this. Zuko is not admonished by the narrative or told that he should mind his own business, or forced to learn a lesson about how it was selfish of him to ask for forgiveness. The focus is on Zuko trying to figure out what Katara needs, recognizing that she needs something from him, and even being able to admit that he doesn't specifically know how to give it to her but letting her figure it out for herself.

MDNI - So Fuckin' Done with You (s.jy)
a/n: This was requested by 💘 Yapper Anon’s ask.
Tumblr media
The night of Sunghoon’s dinner party changed everything. You don’t even really remember how the argument started. But you damn sure remember how it ended.
“Sweetheart, can we please not do this here?” Jake says closing the back door to Sunghoon’s house. He approaches you, trying to gently put his hands on your shoulders to calm you down. But you pull away.
“You care more about them than you do about me!” You yell.
“Is everything okay?” Sunghoon asks, coming into his backyard to check on the situation. He can immediately tell by the exasperation on Jake’s face while you yell at him– things are definitely not okay. In typical Sunghoon fashion, he does not help. At all.
“Ah. Jake’s princess is throwing yet another tantrum,” Sunghoon snickers, taking a sip of his beer. You flip Sunghoon the bird before storming out of the backyard. Jake runs his hands down his face. Then he hears the engine of his car starting. He and Sunghoon make their way through the same path you just took, connecting to the front yard, just in time to see the tail lights of Jake’s car. Heeseung comes out into the front yard and hands Jake a beer.
“Just give her some time to cool off, man,” Heeseung pats Jake on the back before walking back into the house.
“Your girl is crazy. I hope the make up sex is worth it!” Sunghoon laughs. Jake takes a long pull of his beer, staring off into the night.
----------
It’s two in the morning when you hear footsteps in the hallway. You’ve been waiting for Jake to come home and crawl into bed with you. It’s like that every time. You pluck his nerves and start a fight. He tries to defend himself. Then you run away. Sometimes he chases you. Sometimes he doesn’t. Either way, he ALWAYS ends up back in the same bed with you for sweet and gentle makeup sex. Cuddles and all is forgiven… until the next time. The scripted drama that is your relationship with Sim Jaeyun. Anticipation of reconciliation alone makes your pussy wet. But the footsteps stop. The bedroom door doesn’t open. What the hell is he doing? Why is he taking so long to come to bed? You wait a little longer and the house remains completely silent. You slide out of bed, already geared up for another confrontation because he’s making you wait too long. You open the door and walk into the hallway. It’s dimly lit by the bathroom light escaping from the door that’s slightly ajar. You push it open. The room is empty but for his clothes piled on the floor in front of the shower. You turn off the light before continuing down the hall. He’s probably drunk and passed out on the couch. I’m sure he and his boys talked shit about me the moment I left… Just as you turn the corner to enter the living room, you're grabbed by your arm and spun around. Your front is pinned against the wall. You scream bloody murder and Jake doesn’t bother to silence you. The room is pitch black. Streetlights barely peeking through the blinds. You know it’s him from the smell of his cologne. He doesn’t say anything. But having your arm pinned to your back like you’re under arrest is enough to tell you he is not happy.
“Jake!” you yell. “What the fuck?!” He still doesn’t respond as he uses his free hand to lift up your oversized t-shirt and run his hand over your bare ass. No panties. You’re so predictable. First, you brat. Then you expect him to apologize for something that is absolutely not his fucking fault so he can once again be in your good graces. Which means you’ll let him make sweet love to you. Not this time. He’s so fuckin’ done with you and your attitude. Jake chuckles as he rubs his hard cock against your ass. You immediately realize he’s naked and start to relax; pushing your ass back against him. This is exactly what you want: Make up sex. He teases your pussy with the tip of his cock. You spread your legs, clearly eager to have him inside. He’s got you right where he wants you so he releases your hand. You pull your shirt up and over your head. Tossing it away. Completely naked as you press your breasts against the wall. You reach back, trying to grasp Jake's cock and get to the point. He smacks your hands away before pressing the tip of his cock against your asshole.
“Jake, fuck my pussy–” He pulls your hair.
“SHUT UP. I don’t want to hear another fuckin’ word unless it’s an apology. A DAMN GOOD ONE,” he growls, pressing in deeper. You grip the wall for purchase. “Mmpphh. I’m not apo–” He covers your mouth with his hand, pulling you back and impaling you onto his cock. You cry out into the palm of his hand. You’re on your tiptoes, trembling. The sting of the sudden stretch makes your heart rate soar as a layer of sweat covers your body. There’s no way, he’s not ripping you with no prep. No lube. No mercy. Jake’s hand slides down to your neck. A firm squeeze as he hisses.
“Do you think it’s cute to embarrass me like that in front of my friends? Say it. Fuckin’ apologize,” Jake’s demand seems to rumble down through his cock and into you.
“Nghh. NO.” He puts both hands onto your shoulders and presses you against the wall, hammering into your little hole. You whine and he laughs. “Fuck! FUCK!” You reach your hands back to try to slow him down. He smacks your hands away.
“Apologize!” he yells. Your broken cries only egg him on. “Tsk, tsk,” he clicks his tongue. Jake grabs a fistful of your hair, arching your back and now you really are feeling every inch of him punishing you more than before. His hips are slapping against your ass.
“Jae…” You whimper, exhausted. Head spinning. Cunt dripping. You can’t even feel your legs. If it weren’t for Jake and the wall, you’d be on the floor.
“Yes?” he says, keeping the pace, despite how pitiful you sound.
“M’sorry… sssorry,” you blabber. Jake releases your hair and relents to a few slow, long strokes. Then he fills you up completely with his cock before cumming into you with a loud groan.
“Good girl.” He pulls out of you, turning you to face him. Jake hugs you tightly as your legs are so wobbly. He gently kisses you. “Apology accepted. That wasn’t so hard. Was it, Sweetheart?” he murmurs softly between breaths. His lips pressed against your sweaty forehead. You nod against his chest, too fucked out to verbally respond. His cum dripping out of you and onto the floor as he picks you up bridal style and carries you to the bathroom.

Everybody sit down and strap in, 'cause I have a doozy of a tale to share.
I've had anxiety for literally as long as I can remember. I've had periods of my life where it was so intense it became legitimately life-threatening (don't worry I promise this is going somewhere funny). And this was really bizarre because I have zero childhood trauma. Like, my family life is so idyllic it's almost comical. Therapists would do abuse screenings on me and look utterly baffled when I told them everything was fine at home. They'd interrogate my parents just to make sure I wasn't lying. I have one friend who I'm fairly sure believed I was just severely gaslighting myself when I said my family was great, school wasn't too stressful, and I've never lived in a dangerous neighborhood or experienced poverty.
Anyways, despite no one being able to figure out where my disorder was coming from, my doctors were able to help me manage the symptoms so that I would like, not die, and actually be able to finish high school. Which was awesome. Now fast forward to late 2021. My big sister (who has also had intense anxiety her whole life which no one could figure out why) is finishing up her doctorate and getting her physical therapist's license. Somehow, during all her studying and schooling, she finds out about this thing called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, which explains literally everything that was going on with us. EDS is a connective tissue disorder that kinda fudges up your body in a whole bunch of little ways, including dysautonomia (episodes of very fast heart-rate that kick your body into fight-or-flight mode), and hypermobility (unusual flexibility). It's a spectrum disorder, so the severity of symptoms vary from person to person, but we definitely checked almost every box on the diagnostic list. My sister went to see a specialist, and yep, she was diagnosed EDS positive. She immediately calls my mom and goes "I know what's wrong with Niki" (thanks, sis, that's real encouraging lol). Initially we're like "okay Katie, that's nice" because honestly this kind of sounds like jumping at shadows, but I go in to see the specialist anyways just to make sure.
One consultation and diagnosis later, and suddenly my entire life makes perfect sense.
Now we get to the funny part. See, the diagnosis stuff happened in early 2022. So by the time late 2023 comes around and we're looking for a new dog (I promise this is relevant), we've been riding that chronic illness diagnosis for a while. Once again, my sister, ever the proactive one, decides she's going to help us get a new dog. She scours the adoption website, sends us photos of the cutest dogs available, and helps us make a decision. This is how we got Beverly, who has been an unstoppable force of chaos in our lives ever since we signed the papers (but she's also really cute so she can get away with it). Now on top of being a very excitable and anxious pupper, Beverly's got a weird little gimp in her hindquarters, which makes her sit all splayed-out and funny-looking, and while it doesn't seem to be causing her pain, we take her to a vet to get it checked out. Vet finds absolutely nothing. X-rays are taken and examined. Still nothing. At this point, they go "well, we could try a CT scan of her brain, which would run about $5,000, and maybe we could find something--" but my parents are already packing this dog into the car like "well that is a HARD nope." So we decide, look, Beverly seems happy and healthy, and those gimpy legs don't seem to bother her, so we'll just leave it be until it becomes clearer what's wrong with her because we do NOT have a cool $5,000 to throw around here.
Readers more astute than my family and I will likely have already figured out where this is going.
This morning, my mom is looking at Beverly sitting in her funny sprawled-out way, and something in her brain goes "wait...weird physical symptoms with no tracible cause that vets can see..." She does a bit of googling. Can dogs have EDS/Hypermobility? Yes. Yes they can. And the listed symptoms describe Beverly to a T.
So not only is my sister the one to finally figure out what's wrong with me, she also unknowingly got us a dog who has the exact same chronic condition as us. Meanwhile my poor dad, who is the only Normal Person in our house, is coming to terms with the fact that he is apparently just fated to always love chronically ill people and animals, and there's absolutely nothing he can do about it.

So obviously it's still too early to properly analyze the exact relationship dynamic between Jax and Gangle in canon. I promise this is less of me trying to find legitimate proof of any character speculations, and more just a string of very quick, messy personal thoughts on the topic. Context and motivation for their behaviors are likely to be explained in future episodes, and until then there's still quite a lot of uncharted territory left to explore. (Although I will say that both these characters are surprisingly more active and engaging with each other upon rewatch. aka, their willingness to be around one another seems mutual, the bullying is not.)
The only information that we can currently gather about Gangle are her canon appearances, the preview screenshot Glitch posted on the official account and to a lesser extent, Gangle's concept art sketches: Alot of it being about her fixation and dependency towards her comedy mask. We don't know whether she's fixated on the actual sensation being happy 24/7 or just the ability to appear joyful around everybody else just yet, or What her real-world equivalent of the mask was, or even if there ever was a real-world equivalent to begin with. But, Personal indictment is that she does genuinely want long term companionship and meaningful connections with other people. Or at the very least, not be subtly ostracized out of social convention. I think she believes that curating her outward demeanor might change the way others perceive her, and hopefully the way they interact with her as well. It doesn't really help that each of the circus crew are all a bit too much in their own heads to notice, one way or another. Even if they do mean well at the end of the day, it's never quite what she's really looking to accomplish. (It also doesn't help that her digital design is so detached from being human either, she's essentially a flat face on a piece of string. One can't really blame her for trying to make the most of what she's able to display tbh.)
So far, we know Jax is apathetic, violent and generally antagonistic towards everyone in the main cast, sometimes deliberately towards the girls. I think it isn't all that farfetched to believe he latched on to Gangle because she was malleable enough to target without facing most of the consequences. Subsequently, there's also the idea of him relating Gangle's tragedy mask to her willingness to comply: It's an emotional vulnerability for her (She already sees herself as less deserving of human interaction in this state, she won't have anyone else to go to, she doesn't seem to like being left alone). It's not farfetched to assume Jax sees the tragedy mask as a more "complied version" of Gangle, more entertaining and easier to string along. Me thinks he prefers it, but again. It's too soon to tell. Anyways something something designated role in group activities something something internalized self-worth I think Gangle and Ragatha have very similar philosophies when it comes to people pleasing and it almost makes me believe in the theory that they secretly don't get along even more.
(btw plz feel absolutely no pressure to respond to any of this at all - Again, very messy thoughts that I barely had time to collect. Ribbun is an unexpected infection with unfortunately very thought consuming brain fodder to me personally. Have a nice day.
I like these thoughts! It'll be really interesting to see how the Comedy and Tragedy masks work for Gangle.
I do agree Jax probably prefers Tragedy Gangle as even if it's only as deep as "she's funnier like that." And Gangle is the easiest victim for him in that state.
We've seen everyone (but Kinger, who Jax kind of doesn't bother too much, and you could argue it's because Kinger doesn't give an entertaining reaction) fight back against Jax's behavior in some way. Ragatha yells at him, Zooble isn't afraid to get physical, and we can tell Pomni had death on her mind when he threw her off the truck. The most Gangle has done is timidly resist for a few seconds before compiling. Steps on her mask, pushes her, grabs her and puts her in the drivers seat, she doesn't say anything.
She has a couple of bite back words, but then Jax just bites back and it shuts her down. Which is interesting because when Ragatha yells at him it's clear he thinks its funny and merely snarks back at her, often getting her to yell more. He gets different reactions out of everyone in the group and picks different entertainment from that. Gangle might be the one he knows he has proper control over.
As for the Ragatha and Gangle thing, I was really interested in the fact no one cared when Gangle broke her mask in the pilot, not even Ragatha who is our outwardly most caring. You could say it's because she had tunnel vision on Pomni, but I immediately interpreted it as, yeah Gangle's mask breaks all the time, she's crying all the time, eventually people stop caring. The boy who cried wolf, etc etc.
Even if Ragatha doesn't have direct conflict with Gangle, the fact Ragatha is someone who internalizes everything, and projects a positive outlook, I imagine someone like Gangle would make her pretty uncomfortable.
Here Ragatha is trying her darnest to keep it together and remain positive, meanwhile Gangle is crying all the time behind her.
"It's not so bad here Pomni, I promise!" as Gangle cries in the background.
Gangle being a constant reminder of how Ragatha, and maybe all of them really feel about being stuck here. Too early to say if Ragatha resents Gangle for this, or how she really feels about it. But if she does that's so sad because (we also don't know yet) Gangle has no control over these feelings, it wasn't her choice for her avatar to work like this.
Which honestly could be a good allegory for how certain people view mental illness in the real world too. Ragatha being a loved one who's uncomfortable with Gangle's moods, or even believes if Gangle just tried hard enough like her (example: keeping her comedy mask safe) she'd be fine. Ooh sad comic ideas.

Royalty at the Grid Gala
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Big thanks to @/itmethanh on Twitter for hosting!
Full details below:
Rita
I really wanted to see Rita in a three-piece suit and the way I wanted to design it is to make sure there are still elements that would connect them to butterflies.
Most of the inspo for the coat does come from their original concept design as I decided to have embroidery with the Gokkan sigil on the sash. It still has the snow effect but I also decided to have God Papillon's wing pattern on the coattails as well. I've thought about giving them Blue Admiral wing patterns but I thought paying homage to God Papillon would fit better.
The butterfly accessories were placed similarly to Rita having their earcuff and bracelet so the hairpin and broach were placed along the same line.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Himeno
I originally wanted to give Himeno this giant ballgown filled with flowers and such to represent Ishabana, but I realized my skills with that was limited. But what stayed from the original design is her hair which I wanted to point out to be styled like a bouquet of roses. I also had her blonde after some color testing and her usual blonde hair was perfect.
I then thought "Well she's named after the Orchid Mantis which uses camouflage to look like a flower so I can just... turn her into one" which led to her design. Her outer skirt would be flower petals while the inner skirt is similar to a mermaid skirt.
I also included a lot of mantis claws in the design because I noticed her outfits don't really use that much so i wanted to try that as it would also fit with Ishabana's sigil.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Morfonia
Morf, I always saw as someone who would wear something simple yet also elegant but also keeping the layered aspect of her character design.
Her dress has more liberty to be designed more like butterflies such as her bodice and outer skirt. The spot pattern and gradient is based off the Blue Morpho while the shine is more towards the Pearl Morpho.
I also added a matching hair ribbon so she and Rita can match.

DISCLAIMER i have not worked my way through all the eris dialogue yet so if she says something that contradicts all of this uhh. ill explode or something idk
anyway i feel like eris and hypnos actually have the potential to become besties when you think about it! like at a glance it does not seem like they'd vibe (and maybe wouldn't for a while) but i absolutely think they could
they both stand out to me bc (and honestly are both my faves bc) they don't really follow the same adherence to rules and responsibility that p much every other god does, particularly in the nyx family. hypnos constantly slacks off at work in hades 1, and the only reason he starts putting in effort is basically bc he wants approval from than and nyx. eris criticizes mel all the time for being so uptight, as well as nyx and than for being such strict rule-followers. they could both really connect over having someone else who is similarly opposed to that workaholic mindset (worth noting for eris, she refers to than as "brother number i dont even know anymore" and specifically doesnt care about him bc he's uptight like everyone else iirc, so i think she'd really appreciate having someone in the fam who isn't that way)
also, like. yes eris can be pretty cruel to mortals but hypnos is also pretty callous towards them most of the time? like he's pretty comfortable with the topic of death (which does make sense, given his job) but he just doesn't take it very seriously at all, like with natural causes he's just like "wow! sucks to be a mortal lol." plus that whole bit when he just suggests that thanatos just kill everyone all at once so they can hang out more like his ass does not care 😭 so i dont think he'd really care about eris tormenting humans, and in turn i think she might really like someone finally just being chill about it rather than looking down on her basically for being strife. also she'd probably find it funny how nonchalant he can be abt this, and in turn hypnos would enjoy her particular brand of chaos lol
thematically though, part of eris' whole thing is about how she feels ostracized from the rest of the fam bc strife is literally in her nature, while hypnos is shunned bc of his constant sleeping. both are pushed out bc of their very natures. but where they differ is hypnos prioritizes his relationships to the rest of the family and is willing to fight against his nature in order to do his job at the House and thereby impress/appease nyx and than, restoring his relationships to them at the cost of his personal happiness. meanwhile eris believes in being true to herself above all else, and if that means severing ties, then so be it. she mentions at a few different points that she's not going to change her nature for what anyone else wants, and that they shouldn't be surprised at how she acts, given that she's literally strife incarnate (an argument I've seen plenty of people give wrt hypnos sleeping at the job while being sleep incarnate). i think if they interacted more they could actually learn a lot from each other and maybe both move closer to the middle of that spectrum
also hypnos is usually seen as the childish one throughout hades 1 but eris is specifically stated to be one of the youngest in the nyx family so i would love to see some older brother hypnos content 🙏

Sango being outspoken about the fact that she finds the monitoring part of the mission boring and that she'd rather do anything else is funny but also really interesting to me because she doesn't seem to care about the mission to an extent? Or at least, she doesn't seem to view it as a high priority? (She isn't even trying to hide herself in this scene, she is in full view, while Onyx at least tries to remain hidden) Especially in contrast to the other admins who seem adamant on fulfilling Gibeon's wishes (Onyx wants to be serious and he wanted to keep monitoring the group, Amethio is invested in the mission, Spinel seemingly has his own agenda and it's in his own interest to help Gibeon but he is still meticulous about gathering info about the RVTs and researched things with Agate to create the resonance generator to lure Rayquaza). So, Sango being the only one so far who goes "this is a drag, I'd rather have food right now" is really intriguing to me, because why is she there then.
The way she keeps bringing up food really stands out to me too because she is the only one in the Explorers who actually has a "hobby" for herself. It's been brought up multiple times now (she went to specific places for cakes in HZ043 and HZ047). Like, her going to these different places for food is actually something she does for herself! She has things she wants to enjoy outside the Explorers setting, and she is the only admin who does (Spinel has a personal interest in Friede and in the mystery surrounding Liko's connection to the pendant, but I'm not sure I would call that a "hobby", and the others are still shrouded in mystery so we don't know much about their likes). And she decided to go eat churros in the episode instead of continuing to monitor the group (so she prioritized what she wanted to do over the mission).

Hello! How much pop culture knowledge do you think Hera has? Has she seen star wars?
hi! that's an interesting question. the simplified answer is that she doesn't have pop culture knowledge - the only media she has any firsthand knowledge of is whatever goddard deigned to give her access to. she's never been on the internet. most likely, the only movie she's ever seen is home alone 2. but that gets fuzzier - and more complicated - when you ask what, exactly, she has in her databanks. what's on the hephaestus's servers? "my databanks indicate janis joplin died in -"? that's pop culture trivia. "well, i don't know what i want, but i know how to get it" is a fun punchline, but there's no way she's actually heard anarchy in the u.k. - is she just remembering and quoting a previous reference back at eiffel? even recognizing bach - does she have prior knowledge of classical music? does she have access to sheet music and the ability to read it? i'd believe that as something cutter would consider useful... education? socialization? for lack of better terms, but we don't have much information on what goddard AIs are exposed to pre-assignment.
i hold to the belief that hera's claim that she's going through "all the writing - i think it's all in here, more or less" stems from an inability to really conceptualize just how much writing there might be. her whole life has been split between high security goddard labs and deep space, and she's met, like, a dozen people ever. i think it would be entirely reasonable for her to see a few thousand books of historical and literary significance and to think, well, that's probably most of it, right? probably everything important, anyway. (and i think she'll be very embarrassed and very overwhelmed when she realizes.)
and then, well. of course, there's eiffel. he speaks in pop culture references to the point it's practically a second language; of course hera has picked up a ton of secondhand knowledge just from connecting the dots and inferring what he's trying to say. hera hasn't seen star wars (though it's maybe inevitable she will, back on earth), but she's heard eiffel talk about star wars and describe star wars to her beat by beat and reenact scenes from star wars from memory (his own voices and sound effects included), so she probably feels like she's seen star wars. ... more or less.

You came here for Ravka. I came here to chain you to my stove.
Siege and Storm- Chapter 18
Tumblr media
Skip your duties (that can help feed the country) to watch me be cool doing stuff! Anyone less important would do it for me!
This could've been sweetly melancholic if:
a.) The country they live off weren't collapsing and a few of Alina's lightballs could grant them at least a drop of much needed resources.
b.) Grisha don't get sick... and what has Alina's childhood, adolescence and life in Cofton been like? Malyen truly isn't bothered by it, is he? Either he's an idiot, who didn't connect the dots, and doesn't see it as weird, that Alina HAD been sick for such a long time, or he simply doesn't give a shit.
c.) Other Grisha... if he can't have her as ordinary otkazat'sya, he's willing to settle for ordinary Grisha. As long as she's NOT special, and has plenty of time to focus on him.
d.) As stupid as their party date was, it could've been something to distract Alina from her duties and the pressure put on her. This wouldn't be even spending time WITH Mal, just watching him be the skilled cool guy.
e.) Of course he hates the place that made Alina MORE than him. If it weren't for her time in Little Palace, she wouldn't even think about wanting more than to follow him around like a lost puppy.
Tumblr media
Perhaps put some effort in it?
If Mal can so miraculously fit in everywhere, what's stopping him from taking his duties seriously? Not just mope around near Alina, but try to truly become captain of her guards? Learn about strategies and best ways to protect her, exercise and train action with the twins, look for more guards, train them and WITH them, consult Botkin...
Do more than just go where he's invited, act as if he WANTED to PROFESSIONALLY protect Alina instead of playing hero, when others can see it?!
Not to mention he can make himself useful even at those parties. If he does notice nobles hate Grisha, he can at least make a list. They're careless around him, why not listen? Why not consult with Nikolai to learn who they might need?!
He isn't there for Alina, he's there to drag her back into obscurity as soon as an opportunity arises.
Tumblr media
Now, that he's doing something FOR Alina, he misses their period of stagnation, when she was slowly killing herself.
He admits it, while caressing her self-mutilation scar aptly representing their relationship.

And here Alina should pull: Never deign to deny. Instead her puritan shame kicks in.
I know Malyen isn't friends with anyone in Os Alta, but if he weren't such a jerk, he could've catch Nikolai for a moment and discuss a strategy. It's not like Kolya doesn't have an interrest in this too. ...and knows how to deal with Court gossip.
I think "We need to discuss what to do about everyone thinking you're a whore." could be added to post-strategy discussions with Alina too. If Malyen can sit in Alina's council AND act like her captain of guard, they deffinitely DO have to spend time together.
If only he'd become interested in reality and its requirements, quit seeing himself as a knight in shining armour, destined to save feeble helpless Alina, and acted according to her actual needs and requirements.
Perhaps sort his priorities differently and instead of bringing up his one-night-stand with Zoya and inviting Alina to make fun of Suli focus on your damn fucking job!
Tumblr media
And you didn't read my mind!
Tumblr media
And Alina accepts all the blame.
Tumblr media
This could be Malyen spiralling. Or simply jumping to another reproach as soon as Alina attempts to address the previous one.
valid concern
digging into Alina's fear of corruption
reminding her right after she chose it (so the stress is really her own doing)
Tumblr media
Yup! This is the crux of the matter.
Alina might operate under faulty assumptions, she had to be physically dragged back to Ravka, but eventually she's attempting to DO something.
Malyen saw what the system does to people like him, to his friends... so he decided to pack his gf and bail on it all. And when he finds himself back in the middle of it all, he's simply waiting to drag her away from it again, no matter what SHE wants.
The Collar is temporary, her position of Saint is temporary, her leadership of Second Army too.
They reacted to life-changing events in a way that made them two diametrically opposite people, but Mal's sticking around in hope for Alina's regression. And eventually he gets exactly that for all his trouble.
I'll keep the rest for an extra post since some extra shady bitch is chiming in.

Is High Lady a legitimate position? or was that just made up to make Feyre legitimately the most powerful fae (like her mate)? Does being a high lady require a different set of socio-political functions than any lady in Prythian? Or are they just ladies in positions of power who are really really powerful?
Also, should Elucien be the main couple in the next book, how do you want SJM to explore other courts since Lucien is connected to a lot of them?
Lastly, idk if you answered this but what attributes from Feysand and Nessian made you shy away from them becoming high king and queen? After seeing your posts about characteristics of Elucien that make them suitable to rule, I'd like to hear more from you!
This is not a hater question if you ship the canon couples. Hope you have a great day.
High Lady was a legitimate position at one point though it seems to have fallen out of favor as of late, probably because certain "dictator-like" High Lords who wed had / have the mentality that their wives are not their equals (i.e. Beron, Rhys's father).
Tumblr media
I imagine the way Sarah has written it is that High Lady is different than other Lady's in society in that they are the rulers of a court. They share in the same decision making process / voice of authority for a court that a High Lord would. I actually think it has less to do with power and more to do with being the ones to set the laws, where those who work for them are expected to follow their orders when they do issue commands (a sometimes necessary thing).
Tumblr media
Where their purpose is to ensure the safety and well being of their people.
As for as Elucien exploring other courts, I feel like Spring is where they'd spend a good bit of time because Spring is the court that needs the most work. The people have been ignored, the land is beginning to die and it's army is something the NC needs as an ally (not to mention a strong force against Beron).
Day I think they'll travel to in order to learn more about Elain's powers.
I think Autumn will be where they visit after Beron is defeated so Lucien can reconnect with his mother.
The human lands to meet with Jurian after Vassa is forced to return, I think we'll also see Elain finally put Graysen in his place.
Feysand are decent enough leaders.... To the Night Court. Everything they do is to protect the people of Velaris (not even so much other territories there) and while it can't be denied that they do love their citizens, they have proven they are willing to use the people of other courts as collateral to prioritize their goals.
Yes, they fought for all fae and humans during the war but Rhys's first priority during Amarantha’s reign was Velaris. Feyre was willing to displace innocent people in Spring in order to get revenge on Tamlin.
So while they do often care for many, they are still willing to sacrifice them at other times. A High King and High Lady will not make good rulers if they're already showing favoritism.
Nessian, I think it's a bit of the same not to mention Cassian is clearly uncomfortable with the political game which is territory being in charge comes with, like it or not. Nesta does fight for others but that character trait typically comes out only when she sees someone truly in need of a fighter and only when she deems it to be something truly unjust. I.e., she did speak up in the High Lords meeting but only after Beron declared the meeting was over. And Feyre initially asked her to tell her story during the meeting and Nesta refused. Nesta is a lot nicer to those she considers weak than those who are equal to her or more powerful. And she chose to ignore the people of Velaris after the war, choosing instead to drink and gamble for a year. I'm not faulting her for that, I understand she was depressed. But I think someone who is a leader tries to move forward and focuses on the needs of the people rather than letting themselves get sucked into themselves. It's kind of why Tamlin isn't the best leader, he let his depression overtake the needs of his court.
But Elain, after losing her father and Graysen and her humanity helped the fae in Velaris rebuild their gardens after the war even though we know she was still struggling. She made an effort to learn what fae traditions meant to them though she grew up fearing their kind. She became invested in the people rather than focusing on her losses. Her personality makes it possible for have decent a relationship with all personality types versus her her sisters who at times come off as combative towards others.
And Lucien? Though he's loyal, we've also been shown that he cares about the needs of the many. People get so caught up on how he didn't do more for Feyre but that's because to him there were many who also needed something. The people of spring, it's High Lord being able to help the court get back on its feet. Not to mention his choosing to help the humans rebuild after the war and sort out their politics. His willingness to help the NC.
Lucien doesn't have blind loyalty to just one place, he cares about many and to me, that is the kind of personality that would make for a fair and just High King.

Bridgerton season 3 (part 1) review
Thoughts on polin this season:
I stand corrected, people. I loved Penelope and Colin this season. I found the writing of those two as individual characters and a couple (on the show) to be mediocre before, but my god, it's like they jumped straight out of the fourth book this season. It's like I finally got to meet book Penelope and Colin (especially Colin). And the chemistry of the leads really surprised me too. I don't know what was going on before this season, but they are great together now. The writing/portrayal of the personalities of the two characters and their connection was spot on, and I honestly have no notes. I wish they had kept this same essence since the beginning, but I get why they were saving this until their season. As I expected, the execution of the translation of this season and couple from the book to screen was the best out of all three seasons. I wish the past two couples got the same attention and treatment (specially kanthony), but alas, there's nothing to be done about that. RMB is my fourth favourite book in the series, but this season is honestly my favourite. The dialogue, costumes, locations, aesthetic of the sets, and even the silent moments between the leads were so poignant. And this season made it clear how a show having a female show-runner can impact it so positively.
Now, on to the other things:
I really liked how they handled Penelope and Eloise's friendship and its fallout this season. Their friendship was written more subtly and with care this season and resembled the one in the books for the first time ever for me. And how they both changed as individuals by the absence of the solace the two of them found in each other in the past as they stood against the confoundedness and cruelty of society was written so well.
Kanthony were adorable and really cute and it's such a shame that we got so few scenes of them. At least they are together and happy.
I hate how they keep making a mockery of Benedict's character. It's clear that he should have already met Sophie and gotten his story cause his character feels lost among everyone else, but the poor boy is still smiling, so that's something I guess. I just wish they would for once properly focus on his love for art and improvement of his talent instead of his little dalliances. It's almost like the writers think that he has no other values/interests beyond that. I feel like the writers are so much better at handling Eloise's character and preparing her for her season than they are at writing Ben's. For god's sake, they should at least give him a best friend, or further build his relationship with one of his siblings or Violet to give his character some substantiality.
Eloise was really great this season and seemed so much more mature and grounded. Her costumes were immaculate too. I just wish we had seen her bond with Francesca more cause they're really close in the books.
As for Francesca, I'm sorry, I didn't like how her character or story was written this season. She was never meant to be this.. idk... plain and quirky? (no one come at me cause I'm a book Fran apologist). After watching these four episodes I feel like Ruby had a better grasp on Francesca's character than Hannah does but it could also have something to do with the very bland writing. But then again, most of what we know of Fran is from WHWW and she is more mature in it, so like polin, her character could also get major development later on as she gets older. But I don't have high hopes for that. And dare I say, I also didn't like how John was written either. He was always way more confident and outgoing in my mind (I also expected them to cast an actor of a larger build and screen presence to play him). But I do see how this version of him suits the new version of Fran. But all in all, neither of them were this particular in my imagination. I hadn't had any hopes for the adaptation of Michael's character since last season came out, so this is literally the nail on that coffin for me. At this point, I'm very desensitised to being let down by this show and prefer to be pleasantly surprised, so who cares.
The soundtrack was great (though nothing can beat season one's in my opinion). But Snow On The Beach playing in episode four at the exact moment it did was really poignant and sweet so it's my favourite song they used this season (so far).
Favorite quote:
"Eros and Psyche battling it out." "What you are trying to say, Miss Cowper? Are they not old friends?" "The oldest of friends, really. Ever since the Featheringtons moved in across the street." "Across the street from the Bridgerton house?" 😭 (argghhh! why is that the cutest thing? whoever wrote that deserves a raise!!!)
Suffice to say, I'm very excited to see how the rest of the season is written. I hope they handle the whole LWD thing with care too.

Hate when the entire fandom misinterprets one of your favorite characters and you literally can't find any fan work where they actually act like their character

matilda and mob psycho 100 are the only works of art ever about gifted children. i'm not interested about the rest.
#i love how their powers do carry the narrative but in a way that is so them#to pursue the things that are right to them#i also love how the adults in there are portrayed for different reasons#matilda is like yeah kids it is right to hate your parents. a power fantasy for me honestly#and mp100 has reigen fucking arataka. who is also shown to be in the wrong but has genuine love for this kid AND shows it#their messages are also opposite but not exactly?#matilda calls for rebellion against unfair adults from a kid standpoint. something i feel gifted kids perceive even more deeply#but it ends with her making a genuine connection with someone who sees her and gets her the accomodations she needs#making her quote unquote normal#and mob psycho 100 is explicitly about a gifted neurodivergent kid who got really lucky#his family supports his weirdness and never pushed the special one title on him#reigen also does this and also teaches him to see it as just one thing he happens to be good at#and yet he hides it bc he's aware it's not just superpowers what he has#in the same way gifted kids aren't only just smart a lot of the time. it's also a difference in perception of reality#and his character arc is insanely compassionate bc of this luck he had#and also filling in the aspects of himself that were hard for him to explore and grow in bc of what makes him different#this wholesomeness can only happen bc the ppl surrounding him are mostly kind#matilda's revenge is the only way she can fight to protect herself due to the environment she's in#they are both very close to me <3

I’ll get better photos later, but Ottie got a funny haircut at the groomer so we have more time to solidify a new home-grooming routine to accommodate for her sudden addition of full body fluff, so we don’t end up with a big mat again :) This will be easier for our adventuring too cos it’s hard to not get her hair in her favorite harness, which weakens the strength of the Velcro, and causes her to get free. She’s easy to catch but we live VERY close to a VERY busy road so I am VERY nervous about her getting loose. Maybe now I won’t need to put her in two harnesses 😅

also another thing that frustrated me was how like they seemed to forget where kara came from over the years? like she could be alien but not kryptonian.
