(Shout out to Narasaka Toru from World Trigger, who I just found out about, for looking EXACTLY like Peter (which means I FINALLY have a good ref for his dumb hair))
Iska: Zu...Zu-noh-da. Jess: Tuna-dah. Snapdragon: Hahaha, close but no. Chance: Wait, wait, Say-jee is actually your first name, right? Can we call you that? Snapdragon: You could. Or, you could call me Snapdragon. Jess: Snapdragon? Snapdragon: It’s a nickname, from school. It’s easier for most people than Tsunoda. I had pink hair back then.

Chapter Three
Chapter Three Calliope You see a lot in hospitals. Amputated body parts, distraught families, jubilant newbie parents, idiotic college students with spoons taped to their eyes... Okay, so maybe that last one isn't quite so common as the rest, but it does show up every once and a while. "Why?" There is no question I have other than this. Not why spoons? or why are you such a child? Just straight up WHY? The left spoon's tape peels off and the plastic utensil clatters on the desk. "I got off an hour ago," my boyfriend explains with a good natured shrug. He takes the spoon back in his grasp and tries to reattach it, as if what he just said actually serves as an explanation. Of course, it does not. "It's cute and all, Kaito, but why are you taping spoons to your eyes? That has got to hurt!" I say, reaching out to snatch them, but stopping when I realize how badly it would burn if I did so. The tape is pressed right into his eye lids, so one rip could definitely cause some damage. It probably wouldn't be intense damage, but a little screaming and crying would be in order. Kaito blinks, causing the spoons to wave at me. "Just bored." I shake my head, clasping my hand over my mouth to muffle my giggles. "Sorry to keep you waiting," I say through my laughs, gesturing towards the sliding door behind me. "My shift is done. Wanna head out? Or would you prefer to stay here and entertain the rest of the staff?" "Oh, trust me; they are not entertained by this. That one lady with no eyebrows, the one who orders you around all the time? She called me immature and said I should be fired," Kaito informs me, rushing to get out of the swivel chair he'd been inhabiting and follow me as I made my way out of the hospital. The receptionist who took Kaito's place was sitting at her computer, placid as a wax figure. She didn't even react to any of Kaito's shenanigans even though he was only two feet away from her, at the exact same desk she sat at. "I don't think that could have happened though, right? I mean, it was after my work hours and I wasn't bothering anybody. All I did was sit in a chair and tape spoons to my eyes." "Miss Wole doesn't understand joy." My boss, Miss Wole, is colder than the Arctic Tundra. She makes polar bears quiver with fear. The Wicked Witch of the West turns into a puddle just from laying eyes on her. "And you are immature." Kaito throws his hands into the air. "Of course she'd be a miss!" "I love how you even care I called you immature." I slip my arm dutifully around his, raising myself up on my tip toes just a bit to reach him. He's got at least half a foot on me, which makes it difficult to make many intimate gestures without him having to crouch down. It's cute. He shrugs. "Why deny the truth?" "Love that attitude." "It's not attitude. It's Kattitude." "I'll pretend you never said that," I tease. Kaito brings his car keys out of his pocket and starts up the silver PT Cruiser he's been cruising around in (pun intended) since sophomore year of high school. We gave it a nickname- Silver Bullet- but it lost its magic after the car started refusing to go faster than thirty-eight miles per hour. Nothing about thirty-eight mph gives the impression of a bullet, but it is still silver, or at least a very nice grey. "Get in the car, Boss," Kaito instructs, opening the passenger door for me. I stand there, defying him. "Don't call me Boss." He gasps, clutching his chest to communicate the pain we both know I didn't cause him. "But you are my boss! You are a higher up in the hospital!" "Higher up than a receptionist, yes. I'm not your boss though, so don't call me that!" "Whatever, Boss. Just get in the car!" He slaps the hood of the car. "Call me Boss one more time," I challenge, wincing at the clanging sound the car makes after Kaito hits it. He grimaces. "Whoops, that was louder than intended." "You're adorable," I admit, walking up to him and laying a single kiss on his cheek. "Stop calling me Boss and I'll make you chocolate chip cookies when we get home?" "Oh man, deal!" my beaming boyfriend shouts, pounding his fist in the air like a character from an 80's movie and smiling down at me with the most precious lovesick puppy grin I've ever seen. To so many people looking on the outside, it might even seem a little pathetic. Those people have never been in love before. ------* Between work and school, there never seemed to be enough time for much. One thing Kaito always made sure there was enough space on the clock for was baking cookies. Chocolate chip, macadamia nut, peanut butter- there was always time for cookies. I'm pretty sure that's his philosophy. Although there might not be time for homework, there is time for cookies! This brought up issues, especially during high stakes time such as finals week, but I never really minded. You could multitask while baking cookies. Once they're in the oven, it's very easy for you to crack out a textbook and start memorizing different kinds of information, most of which your teacher will not even include on the test. It's also quite a nice time to bring out your laptop and connect with your study group of fellow nursing students and help you keep your sanity about your trembling grade point average. Few nursing students, according to our teachers, actually keep any average they've maintained throughout high school. Nursing is a different kind of major which requires more than most students are willing to give. I am willing to give whatever they will take. My grades are not perfect, they never have been, but they are better than many of my classmates who gave up so long ago I don't think they even remember why they tried in the first place. These kids don't care about achieving anything... I do. "Burning!" Kaito is calling, rushing past me and retrieving an oven mitt. He cracks open the oven, careful to keep to the side as smoke rises up and caresses the ceiling. "Yikes, didn't you hear the timer going off?" My psychology textbook is propped open against the toaster, giving me a very nice drawing of the different parts of the brain and what they're functions are. I find that my eyes have been trained on this the whole time, even if I never really saw it. "Sorry," I apologize, laughing it off while I watch the tall boy bend down to retrieve one of the baking sheets. "I was daydreaming." "My lovely scatterbrain," he chuckles sweetly, placing the hot pan down on the stovetop. The cookies are an unappealing muddy brown, much darker than what the recipe recommended for them to be. I shrug this off and think to myself we can just dunk them in milk, soften the rocks up, because we both know these things will be able to break teeth just by looking at them. "Aren't you lucky to have me and my razor sharp focus?" "Razor sharp is a little far, babe," I argue, slamming my book shut. No point in trying to drill into my memory what use the frontal lobe is now. I'm too distracted for this stuff. Kaito pulls a large plate out of one of the cupboards and starts fanning the cookies with it, as if that will actually help them cool down. "Fine. My mediocre focus, better?" he jokes. "Much." Five minutes later, I manage to scrape the cookies off the sheet and get them on the plate, hoping they're safe for consumption. "They shouldn't be burned this badly! I couldn't have gone that long without hearing the beep," I complain when we sit down on the couch to partake in our guilty pleasure cartoon from the nineties. Every night at ten, one of the TV stations starts playing nostalgic programming for the local college kids. Kaito and I always tend to watch our childhood favorite about a group of kids who live in a cul-de-sac when we get off work. "Well," Kaito sighs, thinking to himself, "our oven does kind of suck. It somehow manages to burn stuff even when you put it in for less time than recommended." I nod, shoving one of the bricks into a glass of milk. "True. It's a cheap piece of junk." "It's better than nothing." "Better than cooking over an open fire." Kaito nudges me, narrowing his eyes. "That is actually not that bad. I've done it before, when I was living with the Johnsons. They were the outdoorsy types, so we went camping a lot. Cooking food over the flame like that, it makes you feel on edge because you're always worried about being burned, but that somehow makes the food taste even better. I think it might be the thrill from getting away unscathed." "Wow. That's actually pretty cool," I tell him, leaning my chin against my shoulder. Kaito wrestles his arm around my waist and brings me even closer. "Why haven't we ever gone camping?" "Cause camping requires leaving and leaving requires taking time off work," he responds, hiding his disappointment well. I set my glass of milk down on the coffee table and turn to him, watching as his eyes avoid mine. "We can take some time off this summer, during the weekend or something. There's that lake about fifty miles from here we can visit. We can take Gabe and rent a canoe and go swimming. Ooh, and we can make s'mores over a fire while we tell scary stories!" Towards the end, I notice Kaito's lips twitch a bit. He wants to smile so badly. "See? I'm not as high strung as you always accuse me of being. I can take time off work, have fun." "You don't have to, love," Kaito insists, giving my cheek a feathery kiss. I feel blood rush to my cheeks at his simple touch. "That sounds amazing and all, but I know how much you love your job..." "I don't love it nearly as much as I love you," I whisper, brushing my hand against his cheek so that he will finally look at me. Once we're face to face, I smile the smile I reserve just for my Kaito, the one that is so large it physically hurts my face. I use every single muscle I can to force this smile and it pays off when I see the way Kaito's own grows across his face. "And a weekend at a lake, relaxing for once, sounds better than anything I can think of." "Better than a chocolate milk shake from the Campus Café?" he pushes, referring to my favorite snack in the whole world. The café has a secret ingredient they use in all their milkshakes that make them taste like heaven in a cup. I've never found out what it is that creates such a perfect blend, but this one kid who works there, Jimmy, suggested that it might be a weird kind of organic milk they order from Canada. "Better," I insist. "Better than an all night Cards Against Humanity tournament?" "Yes, even better than that!" "Better than winning the lottery?" "If we won the lottery, we could buy a house at a lake and not bother having to sleep in a tent," I point out, wrapping my arms around my boyfriend's neck. He returns the gesture, sliding his free hand onto my waist. "If we won the lottery, actually, we'd buy a house by the ocean." "Could I adopt a dolphin? You know that's at the top of my bucket list." I'm laughing too hard to get out an intelligible response, so I nod and lean in to kiss him straight on the lips. Kaito accepts, his hands slowly making their way up to my cheeks and holding them tightly. "Instead of kids, can we just adopt a bunch of dolphins?" Kaito mumbles, drawing away with the most childish smile. "We can open our own version of Sea World! We'll have dolphins and sting rays and reenactments of Jaws..." "First of all, no. We are having actual, human kids!" I clarify, shaking my finger at him. "And second, Sea World would never do reenactments of Jaws! They try to educate people on the life of aquatic animals, not..." "Jaws was based off a true story." I stare at him, wondering how hard he would yell if I punched him on the cheek as hard as possible. He has sensitive cheeks, so they shout would probably carry far enough for the neighbor to hear. No, it's not worth it. Instead, I opt to simply smack him in the arm- a less touchy area- and watch him let out a slight gasp, one more out of shock than actual pain. "Hey, this is the point," I inform him, lifting one hand. I raise another. "And this is what you just said. Get it? It is beside the point!" Kaito shrugs, enclosing his fingers around my fists. He doesn't say anything. All he does is lead me back into his embrace and hold me, his head resting against mine while our hands remained locked together. I imagine we look like those corny people from movies who snuggle together under blankets and bask in their own happiness for an awkwardly long scene that takes up some time that could be used to further the plot but instead just focus on the joy these characters feel together. I like that image. Kaito would like that image. "I was talking to that one guy in my anatomy class, that pudgy kid who lead the play last year, and he said that the theater group is going to Karaoke Night this Friday. Apparently, they're going to reenact the opening number from Hamilton," Kaito brings up while we watch the screen before us fade out from the color and life of the cartoon to the deadly boredom that is an insurance company commercial. The generic blonde lady complains about her insurance company not helping her out after she crushes her car and a voice over tells her that if she'd switched to this company instead of that company, she would have gotten 'the help she deserved.' I roll my eyes and mute the TV. "Okay, that's actually awesome," I say with a bit of laughter. Imagining all those over the top kids getting together to perform such a powerful number will definitely be the highlight of this Friday, except for maybe the final number. It's customary for each performer to get up at the end and perform Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up as a group. Kaito and I have never missed a Karaoke Night since starting college and we have no interest in ever not being a part of such a wonderful choir. Kaito starts to speak, but stops quite suddenly. His lips froze while forming the world can't. I stare up at him, wondering what was causing him to act so oddly, but then I feel it. A pinch, right on the right side of my neck. The feeling reminds me of the dizzying pain of getting a shot... All I see are colors. There is no shape to the world, no definite lines or symmetry. I reach up to touch the aching spot and pull something out. In my hands, I feel it up and I know what it is. It's a needle. I slink down and don't get back up.

Bob Marley’s Son and The Reggae Collective, White Tiger Society
White Tiger Society is a New York-based Soul, Reggae, and Hip-Hop collective comprised of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Dajla “The White Tigress” and Grammy Award-winning engineer/producer Comissioner Gordon Williams. They recently released their new single, Why, featuring Bob Marley’s son, Stephen Marley.
Why is from their debut album, Sound of the White Tiger, set to be released on September 15th via Lalabela Music Group.
Comissioner Gordon Williams adds, “Stephen and I have a long relationship in music, going back to the days of The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill, all the way up to Welcome To Jamrock, on which we worked together, as well as his latest album, The Fruit Of Life. Stephen actually picked Why to collaborate with us on, and we are thankful to have ‘Ragga’ as part of the White Tiger family!”
The song combines reggae, heart-felt soulful vocals and that positive feel similar to what we’re used to hearing from the music legend himself, Bob Marley. It’s difficult to listen to Why and not feel that uplifting feeling.
Comissioner Gordon Williams is a legend in the music industry, with his nickname given to him by KRS-One. He’s won multiple Grammys including two Album of the Year Grammys for The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill and Santana’s Supernatural.
Dajla is a musician to the core. A student of classical and jazz piano from ages 6 to 16 at the national music conservatory in France. She also found inspiration at home, listening to her parents’ Soul, Jazz, Reggae, and Blues record collection. Dajla has released two albums and an EP to date, while sharing the stage with the likes of Angelo Moore from Fishbone,De La Soul, Nneka, Sa-Ra, and The Brand New Heavies.
White Tiger Society was born in In 2013 when Gordon and Dajla met in New York City through their work as a writing/production team.
We had the pleasure of interviewing White Tiger Society below. Play their new single, Why, featuring Stephen Marley and read the full interview below for the FULL White Tiger Society experience. Dajla answered some and Comissioner Gordon Williams did others as noted.
Where does the name White Tiger Society come from?
DAJLA – It comes from an Asian legend – The White Tiger is a mythical creature that appears when the world goes off balance. It represents Justice. Although it does not harm people, it becomes angry when the ruler of the land conducts evil deeds.
How many musicians are in your group?
DAJLA – WTS is a collective fronted by Gordon Williams and myself, and we work with musicians in the studio and on stage. For live shows, we have different line ups, DJ sets, or a full band.
Where are you from and how has that shaped the musician you are today?
DAJLA – I was born in France, on the west coast. The great thing about my hometown was that I could attend the national music conservatory, so I studied classical and jazz piano and music theory there from age 6 to 16. It gave me solid music foundation that I would use years later for songwriting. But my influences were shaped at home, as I grew up listening to my parents’ reggae, soul, rock, funk and jazz record collection, and artists such as Bob Marley, Ray Charles, James Brown, Michael Jackson and Carlos Santana.
What instruments did you play when you were younger?
DAJLA – I started playing piano age 6 at the conservatory, also did Oboe for a couple years but it gave me migraines lol. I taught myself the bass age 17.
Are there an instruments that you currently wish you COULD play?
DAJLA – I would really like to learn to play the guitar. Great for some writing and performing solo.
Tell us the story of how you started creating music on your computer?
DAJLA – In 2005, a producer friend of mine introduced me to Digital Performer (music software) and showed me how to use it. I slowly started making simple beats and used it to make demos of the songs I’d write. I had a very simple set up, good enough for me. My Macbook Pro, an M-Box, a couple of Genelec speakers, a Brauner microphone, a Nord Electro and my Fender Precision bass. It was great!
What was your favorite studio moment when producing your newest single, Why?
DAJLA – My favorite moment was to go visit Stephen Marley in his studio in Miami. He and Comish go way back, and it was the first time I met him, so I was really honored. After listening to the track a couple times, he just went in the booth and instantly came up with his part. Truly amazing and memorable experience!
What was it like working with Bob Marley’s son?
DAJLA – It’s like a childhood dream come true.
What do you like to do when you’re simply hanging out – aside from music?
DAJLA – I like to spend time with my close friends and family. Love to go dancing too. NY has some good club nights (Timmy Regisford, Tony Touch…).
Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
DAJLA – I coach young artists – piano, vocals and songwriting, to help them prepare for recordings or live performances. Gordon has a music Academy – The Lalabela Music Academy that teaches music and music engineering to under-privileged children and teenagers, in the US or abroad. I am joining the Academy as a music instructor and to create a brand new modern, fun and hands-on approach to teaching music. Music can also act as “therapy” for some of the children I work with. Music heals!
Who are your musical influences?
DAJLA – Each period of my life helped me discover amazing artists – There was reggae from early age, and funk/RnB with James Brown, all the jazz greats, too many to mention…From Billie Holiday to Thelonius Monk – a solid hip-hop foundation in the 90s, with bands such as Public Enemy or the  Fugees, Lauryn Hill of course…Also hung a lot in the ska scene and absolutely love Jamaican music (The Skatalites, Ken Boothe, and the electro scene, Drum and Bass, House, Garage…Most recently I have been listening to a lot of Ethiopian Jazz – Mulatu Astatke is one of my favorite artists.
What DAW do you use and why?
COMISSIONER GORDON – Pro Tools. I have been a Pro Tools user many years. I am the most comfortable with it, but I do like Studio One as well.
Do you have a typical music production process? If yes, can you explain it?
DAJLA – I usually write songs on the piano, basic chord progression and lyrics. I let Comish hear the song, think of a style or direction, i.e. reggae, soul, ska…depending on the beat he hears. He then gathers a team of musicians to cut it in the studio. He then adds beats/effects, and finally mixes it, adding his magic touch of course.
Who has been one of your favorite artists to collab with?
DAJLA : So far Comish is the best artist I’ve collaborated with. His vision with regards to my songs is always on point and his experience in recording and writing pushes me to another level.
What is your favorite MIDI Controller or instrument to produce with right now?
COMISSIONER GORDON – Can’t say that I have a specific controller. I have worked with so many. I still use my original MPC 3000 from time to time. And I like the MPC Renaissance
What is one of your favorite or go-to VST Plugin?
COMISSIONER GORDON – mmmmmm trade secret lol
Do you have a key production tip for our young producers out there?
COMISSIONER GORDON – Be true to the music that is inside of you.
What are some of your favorite venues to play and why?
DAJLA – I really like medium capacity venues, which are more intimate and create a great experience and bond with the audience.
What is your favorite color?
DAJLA – I love all colors
What food do you eat the most?
DAJLA – Mainly vegetables and fruits, nuts, seeds… At home, I mainly cook North African/ French Mediterranean dishes, and I also enjoy Caribbean food…And Tunisian cookies
Do you have a favorite in-studio snack?
DAJLA – Does Pinot Noir count as a snack? lol
What is your favorite social media platform and why?
DAJLA – Each media has something great to offer… Facebook because it allows fans to reach out directly to us, and it’s very practical too for events. It is also a great tool to find and connect people.
What is next for White Tiger Society?
DAJLA – We’ve just dropped our new single Why ft Stephen Marley here in the US, and more music will come out this fall. The next step for us right now is touring the US and Europe, this fall and in 2018.

Of Monsters and Men Hey! Hey! Hey! I don't like walking around this old and empty house So hold my hand, I'll walk with you my dear The stairs creak as I sleep, It's keeping me awake It's the house telling you to close your eyes And some days I can't even trust myself It's killing me to see you this way 'Cause though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore Hey! Hey! Hey! There's an old voice in my head That's holding me back Well tell her that I miss our little talks Soon it will all be over, and buried with our past We used to play outside when we were young And full of life and full of love Some days I don't know if I am wrong or right. Your mind is playing tricks on you my dear 'Cause though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore Hey! Don't listen to a word I say Hey! The screams all sound the same Hey! Though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore You're gone, gone, gone away, I watched you disappear All that's left is a ghost of you Now we're torn, torn, torn apart, there's nothing we can do, Just let me go, we'll meet again soon Now wait, wait, wait for me, please hang around I'll see you when I fall asleep Hey! Don't listen to a word I say Hey! The screams all sound the same Hey! Though the truth may vary this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore Hey! Don't listen to a word I say Hey! The screams all sound the same Hey! Though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore Though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore Though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore 111) Tag 10 people @ghostriderofthearagon and anyone else up for it.
