finally marked all the 8th grade maths tests and like. i've only just met them this august but 1 of them has 0 correct answers. 0 points out of like 50. i have no fucking clue what is happening in there. i have no clue how he's gotten to the second to last year of compulsory education and he doesn't have a standing appointment with a special teacher

Heavily inspired by @deafenedsaltwater 's concepts. Idk what was in that post, but it sparked me to make a whole heap of sketches and ideas. Dunno how far I'm gonna roll with this concept, but for now it's rollin kinda far.

Loads of info below:

Four is the math teacher with X as his TA. Four's one of those teachers that really knows the material, but because they know it so well he thinks it should be easy for anyone to get. So they're kinda harsh with the students if they get something wrong.

Whereas X gives more positive reinforcements for students, and isn't as harsh with them. X doesn't know as much of the material, and probably looks to the teacher's textbook if they're lost. One of those teachers who kinda learns with the class.

Airy is the school's nurse and teaches the Home E.C. class, and he's awful at both jobs. When he's not starting fires or teaching the course like it's some kind of wilderness survival camp, he's mainly works as the nurse.

As a nurse, he misdiagnoses things constantly if it's not an obvious injury, and uses a bunch of herbal remedies for the few things he does know how to help with. Mainly scrapes and stomach aches.

Two often times subs in for him when Airy has to take care of a sick student, who often times will fake being sick so they can get Two to teach the class.

MePhone teaches coding and AutoCAD as an extra circular, and probably typing for lower grades. I keep slappin' a bunch of classes onto 'im cause I remember taking so many throughout high and middle school.

He doesn't enjoy teaching coding or typing since he doesn't see them as creative as making actual models for things in AutoCAD, even though the other two can be used creatively. MePad's kinda left to teach those classes despite being a TA.

Also it's a very hands off class where he gives them the basics of how to use the program, and the rest of the class is leaving the students to make whatever thing fits the assignment.

He's the kind of teacher who's real in tune with internet culture and reality tv so he uses a bunch of modern slang phrases or casually gives hot takes on shows if he overhears the students talking about them. Everyone thinks it's cause he wants to be "hip with the kids" when in reality he just has brain rot.

Clock's the history teacher. He discusses each history point with the same tone and enthusiasm, and remembers the years and eras with pinpoint accuracy. Kinda put too much emphasis on the dates, and how long events lasted, over the content of those events.

He's the teacher you can get to go on a long side tangent about something unrelated to the material, but they'd always find a way to bring it back to history.

Idk I also think it'd also be funny if he co-taught an economics class with Four (thinking there'd be a lot of math involved) when it's really more so about theories.

Out of all the teachers, Four and Clock are the most knowledgeable and could probably teach college level courses if they wanted to.

Animatic is the PE teacher with too much energy and gives the harshest workouts but thinks they're easy. Mainly cause he does them alongside the students and always has energy after to run laps around the school. Two would have probably told them to tone it down.

Speaking of-

Two is the health counselor and sub for Home Econ., but also has a bunch of unofficial jobs. They're the unofficial vice principal mainly cause the rest of the speaker boxes are kinda incompetent at their job, and they have to mediate not only students but teachers too (mainly Four and Animatic). As well as sub in for Airy, or even act as a supervisor, when need be.

Some other ones I haven't drawn yet are Daddy Long Legs as the music teacher, Popcorn as the theater teacher, and Hourglass as the English/Literature teacher.

The speaker boxes are the principle/VP/admin. They all kinda interchange with each other, considering how similar they all are also cause they switch out a lot in the original show.

Dunno who the science or art teacher would be, cause I'm mainly going after object shows I've seen. Honestly I may just swap some roles around.

Mainly doing this as a thing for funsies, but boy howdy is it a rapidly rolling snowball.

Hi! I'm the anon from Shirecorn's ask- I feel like my specific situation is very different. I'm not saying teachers Need to help (sorry if it sounded like that- bad with words. I wish you were allowed to, though) but in my district, for some reason, they refuse to at least stand by and let us work on student safety if that makes any sense? EX. we blocked some sites (like Kongregate and Newgrounds type sites, plus Instagram, Pinterest etc, exclusively non-school appropriate games and social media) and a bunch of teachers at multiple locations got extremely mad at us for some reason. We have a librarian who gets really. REALLY weird about us blocking anything explicit too. She's worse than the parents for some reason.

I know all districts are different, but also thank you for putting up the good fight at yours. 🙏godspeed soldier. May administration be conveniently looking the other direction

LOL they got mad because it also blocks it for teachers, which meant they couldn't go on instagram at work. They SHOULDN'T be going on instagram at work, mind you, but I'd be willing to bet that's why they got pissy (at work we also connect to the school wi-fi. yes it's a nightmare. yes it's slow. I worked at a school that had separate wi-fi for the teachers once, and that was heaven lmao). It's also possible you blocked some sites teachers were using as rewards. In order to motivate students, I've seen a lot of teachers basically say "if you finish early, you can play games on your laptop" in order to allow slower workers a chance to finish within the plan while not boring the faster students to absolute tears every class period. I've also personally run into the problem where students would go to increasingly sketchy, virus-ridden gaming sites because all the safe, popular ones were blocked by the school. Not saying they're right to get pissy at you (you're just doing your job, they should get pissy at the school board if they're gonna lol), just a few reasons, good and bad, they might be getting irritated.

A lot of teachers also get... I would say morally opposed to censorship. You have to remember that the association with censorship that teachers will have is very bad, books that aren't allowed in the library and an idea of "children's safety" that involves keeping them from learning anything about history, their own bodies, the memory of hired mobs screaming and calling them pedophiles at school board meetings (I work in English so I have a significant number of colleagues this exact thing has happened to. One of my closest work friends got called a faggot at one of those.)

A lot of teachers (honestly myself included sometimes) have a kneejerk reaction to a censorship-based concept of children's safety, because their primary experience with it is one that's built not around children's safety but around control of children. Most educators (and librarians) are inherently morally opposed to this kind of thing and will react negatively to any hint of it. When kids are coming from homes with "child protection" monitoring systems to schools with anything problematic blocked, it becomes an issue of control. This is potentially where some of the teachers and the librarians are coming from and why they're reacting that way.

The problem is at the same time, admin is often blocking us from teaching internet safety in a helpful way that isn't just revolved around blocking Instagram and Pornhub. In almost every school I've worked or was placed in for observation, lesson plans had to be approved by admin the week before, and they had to have a core curriculum connection, and internet safety ain't in there. That's supposed to be the job of comp classes that don't exist at any school anymore (comp class was where we learned internet safety when I was in school in the 90s/00s). Best I could ever do was internet literacy, because I'm an English teacher and there's a core curriculum about research that I could connect it to.

Needless to say, I wish we could help too, since just blocking sites (while necessary imo just for like... keeping students on task? a lot of ppl don't seem to realize children in schools from middle up have literal constant access to a laptop and are on it all day every day in all classes) doesn't really do anything to teach kids internet safety. Parents aren't doing it (parents are often the source of the problem too) and if teachers aren't allowed to... it just doesn't get done, full stop, as those are the only two kinds of adults we tolerate around kids.

I see Othello as quite a confident person

He may not seem it at first glance, especially when in comparison to personalities like Grell and Undertaker, but I think he’s quietly confident in his own way

That said, completely different story when it involves his S/O

I suspect he gets all blushy and a bit nervous the first time he asks them out on a date (assuming they didn’t get in there first)

Probably quite a bit of hesitation and should I hold their hand? I mean, I want to, but would they mind? Should I ask or would that ruin the atmosphere?

To be honest, you’ll probably end up making the fist move in that sense

Once he realises its okay with you though, all that nervousness is going to go out the window

He’ll walk you back to your place, likely give you a goodbye kiss on the cheek

He’ll get more comfortable with you the longer you two go out together

More little touches just to keep a bit of contact, more hugs

He probably kissed you first as well

Othello is definitely introverted, but not to the point of trying to avoid company or being nervous around others

I’d probably call him a charismatic, confident introvert

He’s obviously very clever - I wouldn’t be surprised if he came up with some of the forensics techniques used by Dispatch, purely because he went to use the original methods then thought ‘there’s a better way of doing this’

He has a real passion for science, beyond just work

He’s probably the person who sits in the canteen purely to tell other people about new discoveries he’s made (other people being Grell, albeit begrudgingly and because wherever she goes, Othello manages to be there)

That’s only when he has time to, though

Most of the time, he stays in the lab to carry on working

I have a headcanon that all the reapers are literally surviving on coffee and he is no exception

He’s always so energetic, so I kind of picture him as the kid who sits in the back of the class drinking a flask of black coffee mixed with some sort of energy drink

Sleep schedule? What’s that? For that matter, what’s sleep in general?

Likely dozes off at his desk more than he ever actually goes to bed

Even when he’s at home, I think he falls asleep in his armchair/on the sofa more often than anything else

Food-wise, I think Othello is either the sort of person who eats like one sandwich at lunch and that’s it, OR he looks like the kind of person who only eats one sandwich at lunch but he actually eats everything all the time

In all honesty, he’s probably the second one

I see him as someone who snacks constantly as well, rather than eating many full/balanced meals

I mean he’s a reaper, he can absolutely get away with doing that and nobody is going to stop him (his own body included)

Othello finds the human world interesting, certainly, but probably more in the ‘ultimate science experiment’ kind of way

Humans are very interesting to him, certainly not something to be frowned upon, but again likely because he’s very curious about them

Really, the thing that would make him very happy is to just corner a human of any variety and full out grill them on the human world and their life in it

He wants to know everything. Literally everything

That said, he would also be open to having a human S/O

I mean it’s probably illegal (according to Dispatch) but as long as he’s careful and quiet about it, then what does it matter?

It’s certainly not going to detract from his work or work ethic

In fact, his S/O would be really helpful in him understanding their world better

He doesn’t get down there very often (though he makes far more effort to see his S/O) so he doesn’t get to carry out field research very often

With a human S/O, he has his very own personal tour guide

And if the S/O other also enjoys science or is a scientist themselves, this dude is absolutely smitten

AND THEN if they willingly help him carry out research/provide him with information, he is going to be in love foreverrr

Othello might not be as bold and ‘out there’ as some of the reapers, but he is still involved in the social aspect (such as it is) of working at Dispatch

He rocked up to the Christmas party wearing the most hideous jumper he could find - a reindeer with a flashing nose - and antlers with tinsel wrapper around them on his head

Grell, dressed only in her finest, was utterly appalled by the display, which really only made it funnier for Othello

He does wear more normal things if he’s going out for after-work drinks though

A lot of the forensics division go out together on a fairly regular basis (for how irregular their schedules are), with the occasional reaper from admin, assuming they’re incredibly bored and don’t mind everyone talking science for the whole evening

As a kind of overall picture, I see Othello as the incredibly smart professor with multiple PhD’s who rocks up to lectures with steaming instant noodles in hand wearing something incredibly scruffy and who only tells his students his first name

A group that’s well known for being hired bodyguards rather than hitmen. They’re seen as neither good nor bad, but rather a neutral that sits in the grey area of the dark shady dealings within the underworld.

Though they don’t take on as many hitmen jobs as most, they’re still one of the groups that has a high number of requests from popular celebrities to important officials.

Known for being the best ‘stone wall’ their defenses are impeccable and impenetrable. Practically everyday they’re evolving their tactics and skills to ensure that the fortress they’ve created won’t be disturbed or broken into if a moment of weakness happens to arise.

Though they did have a rough start with Karasuno, they’ve been able to mend the relationship between the rookies that caused the brief tear.

ʏᴀꜱᴜꜱʜɪ ᴋᴀᴍᴀꜱᴀᴋɪ

An outspoken male who isn’t afraid of saying what’s on his mind and choosing to strictly keep the order and hierarchy that has been established-- though he’s most often the one who shows the least amount of respect for his seniors.

Unsurprisingly, he’s seen in arguing the most with Futakuchi. Each argument varying in degree of legitimacy to pure pettiness over a simple assignment.

Despite his harsh and outspoken personality, he’s the second in command with the Date Tech team. Though he doesn’t show respect to his seniors, he shows-- or at least tries to-- the most respect to their leader.

He’s mainly known for his competitive spirit and desire to relieve stress via close combat. It’s not often that he’s sent out for a mission, and more often times than not he’s the one who handles the dirtier aspects of their business.

Besides being one of the best combatants at Date Tech, he’s known to give the best sorts of threats. Not only that, but he’s rather good at meandering his way through and out of a threat directed at him.

“Tch, damn pessimistic know it all bastard...”

Irritation clearly permeated the air as the tall lone figure briskly walked his way through the crowded Saturday party route. It was unsurprising that his target in question was in such a highly populated place, and despite what his group was known for the assassin couldn’t help but feel a rush of adrenaline surge through his veins.

The unsuspecting would always end up slipping up after all. With that in mind, the male in question couldn’t help but feel a smirk grace his features as he leisurely made his way into one of the clubs. A lucky day for him as the members of Aoba Johsai gave him an easy slip in to simply do his job. Though it pained his paycheck that he had to give a cut to them, he couldn’t help but still give them a miniscule sense of thanks.

After all, his target was in one of the VIP rooms with minimal to no guests. His smirk now blooming into a full blown grin, the male couldn’t help but eagerly make his way towards the room. His stress levels have been rising as of late, and he really needed to take Moniwa’s advice to punch it out.

His appearance is unsurprising to most if not all. With sandy blonde brown hair and deep brown eyes always fixated into a scowl or glare, he’s the perfect picture of easily irritated.

In comparison to all the members at Date Tech, he’s the one who garners the most attention as he’s the one with the most tattoos and piercings-- though in comparison to other hitmen he has the bare minimum.

A large and strong build that none can easily overtake, he prides himself in his physic and works with both Aone and Koganegawa to enhance and solidify their strength.

When it comes to having and s/o, Kamasaki is known to be rather prickly with them. For the members of Date Tech, it wouldn’t be hard for them to have a relationship that’s on the pure side-- yet for Kamasaki and his brutish ways he would much rather have someone who is familiar with the job he does. Both good and bad.

It goes without saying that once he falls, he falls hard and won’t hesitate to beat or even kill someone if they threaten to hurt his s/o.

ᴋᴀɴᴀᴍᴇ ᴍᴏɴɪᴡᴀ

The one who no one suspects to be the leader of Date Tech. As a soft spoken and kindred spirit, it’s a wonder how Moniwa has become the leader of a bunch of hitmen.

It’s only during a minor inconvenience between Date Tech and a company that the members of Date Tech truly understand why he was given the title of ldeader.

It’s to the surprise of no one that Moniwa is a decoy. As someone who enjoys interacting with people, he finds it easily-- almost amusing -- how he can weasel his way into someone’s life before squeezing all their secrets out of them.

In contrary to all the other leaders he’s met, Moniwa much rather prefers a shared hierarchy than the traditional one. A key example of this being that he actively seeks the advice and thoughts of his fellow hitmen. 

Though this does make many within his division question his motives and solidarity as a leader. (This is quickly debunked as those who end up questioning end up baring witness to Moniwa’s terrifying wrath.)

Inquisitive brown eyes searched anxious ones as the client before him nervously tapped his fingers against the glass table. Despite feeling the clear hesitancy of the billionaire seated before him, the decoy did nothing but offer a false sense of security.

Softly inhaling, Moniwa allowed the stone features he bore melt into that of a soothing and warm smile as cat like eyes mellowed to that of a understanding and kind therapist.

“I understand your hesitancy and lack of desire to hire us, but I can guarantee your safety from the people who are out for your head sir. You can trust me...”

Contrary to what many may think, Moniwa is one of the most innocent looking leaders within the hitmen business. With his wide eyes and fluffy black hair, he’s the epitome of the shy college student.

Like many others at Date Tech, he has little to no tattoos. The only thing that gives a glimmer of curiosity to those who meet him in public are the amount of piercings he has decorating his ears. 

Unlike a majority of Date Tech, Moniwa isn’t as bulky. He’s a lot more lean.

With his s/o, he’s an absolute sweetheart. Someone he’s fiercely protective over and wants them to have no ties to the harsh work life he’s used to.

Though if his s/o is someone who has dabbled with the fine line that his group is in, then he may make an exception for them to join his team.

ᴛᴀᴋᴇʜɪᴛᴏ ꜱᴀꜱᴀʏᴀ

Intimidating in stature, it comes to the surprise of many that Sasaya is the group’s tech expert. With his physic and strong build, many would assume that he’s one of the many who actively go out to field to protect clients. 

Instead, he’s behind the scenes helping with their transactions they receive whilst creating allies with other hitmen groups. 

Unlike the others, he’s at the very least supportive of the underclassmen in their group. Going as far as assigning them distinctive missions under Moniwa’s back. (Of course this garners a harsh smack to the hand by the leader and now all assignments are assigned after both Sasaya and Moniwa review them.)

Despite spending most of his time in the lab and keeping himself up to date with the newest and latest code, Sasaya actively participates in any sort of training hosted by his fellow peers as he finds it a necessity to at least be able to defend himself if an ambush were to arise.

The flickering of the screen and the consistent sound of typing filled the dark void as a haggard young male sat before a pile of unkept files. It had barely been a couple of hours since the last attempted break into their digital side and already the male was in the works of creating a new line of defense to ensure all of the information they kept was sorted safely and soundly within the 1′s and 0′s.

Letting out an irritated sigh, the male in question decided to finally push himself up and away from his desk. A stretch towards the right and he could slowly feel the knots in his back unwind at a torturously slow pace. 

“I suppose I should take up Futakuchi’s offer...”

With that, the figure eased his way out of the dark room he had crammed himself in and  towards the training facility a couple of floors down. The ache and desire to relieve stress in the form of fighting sounding much too pleasing to his ears as a sinister smirk formed on his face. After all, he was certain that Futakuchi brought in some fresh victims.

Intimidating to a fault, Sasaya-- despite being one of the shorter members within the group, is one of the more intimidating members as he’s usually seen with a serious or foreboding expression on his face. 

He’s a lot more built than one would expect from a strategist and technician, but he takes pride in being able to stump the assumer. 

Similar to the many members at Date Tech, he has little to no markings to his body. The only real significant one being the stud piercings he has on both earlobes.

With an s/o, he’s rather honest and respectful. He isn’t afraid to tell them the truth about his career-- though he’ll only do so if he feels a strong connection with them.

If he can, he’ll try his absolute best to keep them from getting involved with his line of work.

ᴋᴇɴᴊɪ ꜰᴜᴛᴀᴋᴜᴄʜɪ

One of the few juniors at Date Tech who holds little to practically no respect for his seniors. This is evidently seen as during almost every meeting hosted prior to an important mission, Futakuchi will make it his mission to be as annoying and problematic as he can.

Despite his easy-going and sarcastic attitude, he’s a brilliant close combatant and interrogator on the spot. Out of all the various hitmen group, Date Tech comes second to Nekoma in terms of gathering information; and this mainly stems from the fact that a majority of their close combatants are skilled in the art of beating the information out of their victims with brute force and psychological strategies.

Being known as the problematic and instigator of trouble within the group, practically everyone within Date Tech is aware that Futakuchi is fiercely loyal to the group and won’t hesitate to go out and crush rival hitmen group.

He does consistently question Moniwa with why their particular group dances the fine line between good and bad, but soon comes to an understanding after a nasty run in with a smaller hitmen group.

“Really? And here I thought you’d at least make this at least somewhat entertaining.”

Smug and clearly finding enjoyment in the situation, the light haired brunette couldn’t help but feel a smirk grace his features as he flicked the end of his dagger against the soft plush skin of his victim. 

The victim before him could only let out wretched pleas of forgiveness and that of sparing his life, though he knew fully well that wouldn’t be happening-- but it was good to at least have a little fun every once in a while. Besides, Moniwa couldn’t be upset with him if he brought back valuable information.

“How’s this? You tell me the information I ask for and I’ll gracefully spare you your life, but if I sense any sort of a lie I’ll rip each of your fingernails out. Alright?”

Tall and intimidating, Futakuchi takes pride in his sturdy yet lean build. Though when not in his work clothes he has the appearance of the sassy boy next door. Soft brown eyes naturally side swept and slightly rounded eyes. His appearance is deceiving to most-- especially when he begins to speak.

As the problematic junior at Date Tech, he’s one of the few who possesses at least a minimum of 3 tattoos. Smaller ones decorate his body, but the main three are located on his shoulder blades and the nape of his neck.

With an s/o, it’s without a doubt that they won’t be getting any sort of special treatment from the close combatant. He’ll be blunt with them, and at times can be insensitive to what he may say.

He wants his s/o to be in a similar line of work as he finds a relationship with someone with strong morals can prove to be rather disastrous. (He had witnessed a relationship go awry)

ᴊɪɴɢᴏ ꜰᴜᴋɪᴀɢᴇ

Quiet and seen mostly behind the scenes, Fukiage is a man of little words. He does as he is told and is to be known as a part of the intimidation squadron. 

With the newest members of Date Tech holding a strong grip with height and intimidation, a new path is carved out for Date Tech as the line teeters more towards a question in moral as they begin to pick up more jobs that require protection of corrupt officials.

Contrary to what many may think, Fukiage is one of the few snipers on the team. Though he isn’t as talented as many of the other snipers within the hitmen business, he holds a steady ground in being a silent and promising sniper.

Breath in, breath out. 

A reminder to himself to steady his heart as he narrowed his sights on the target before him. A simple mission at best. One that involved a sudden double cross to one of the clients they had. In all honesty, it had come as a surprise to him. Especially as their leader had been the one to assign him this mission.

So it came to no surprise that he felt sudden pressure. Yet even as he laid on the rooftop, he couldn’t hep but feel a sense of justice run through his veins as a sinister smirk form on his usually stoic features. Revenge never tasted so sweet. 

“This will hopefully serve as a reminder that Date Tech isn’t just some bodyguard business...”

Similar to Futakuchi, he holds a sturdy and lean build. Though he’s much more agile than the other despite his height, he poses as a strong threat with the insane amount of agility he possesses. 

Like many of the other members within Date Tech, Fukiage holds a stoic and stone like appearance to those who first meet him. A perfect addition for the group well known as the great defense. 

When if comes to his s/o, he’s patient and understanding of their possible qualms with his career choice, though he’ll most likely still actively pursue the relationship if they show signs of wanting to stay with him. Though similar to many others, he would rather have an s/o who has a similar job or understanding of what he goes through daily.

meng yao starts working for nie enterprises when he’s 16 as a part-time janitor. he has two other part time jobs and is studying for his ged.

one day he solves some kind of problem that nie enterprises is having and nie mingjue likes this guy and promotes him to his personal assistant on the spot

nie huaisong is always flitting about his brother’s office etc, and they become friends and meng yao helps him with his homework.

when huaisong is getting ready to go to small posh private university, he will definitely need tutors. mingjue is happily persuaded into converting meng yao’s job into full-time huaisang babysitting tutoring, including paying for yao’s tuition and room and board to get a degree himself; his job is to make sure huaisang gets good grades and not in trouble. meng yao sees this for the golden ticket it is and very happily agrees. this is going to be the easiest job he’s ever had, and he’s got job security as long as huaisang doesn’t mess up too badly.

first day of classes, meng yao is 22 and looking around at the 30-odd 18-year-old trust fund babies with a sinking stomach telling him that he does not belong here.

this is a philosophy and ethics class like. in a literal ivory tower. this is possibly the last place he should be. 

and the most gorgeous man he’s ever seen in his life walks into the room with the professor. and he’s introduced as “and this is our TA, lan xichen.”

lan xichen smiles at the room with the kind of look that makes it feel like he’s making eye contact with everyone. and then he makes real eye contact with meng yao. “he’s attractive as hell,” they both think, and then think nothing of it.

but, it’s a small class. and it meets 3 times a week. and lan xichen shuts down someone who pokes at meng yao’s age, and meng yao asks questions perfectly tailored to making sure that huaisang and the other students actually understand the material. and by the end of week 2 they’re both saddled with an extremely unfortunate crush that they both need to get a handle on. for professionalism’s sake. they’re at work goddamn it.

and one day meng yao comes to office hours to ask a question that’s much more advanced than what they’re talking about in class, and in lan xichen’s tiny ta office talking about ethics, they are exceptionally and perfectly polite and appropriate and within the exact bounds of a ta-student relationship.

they are also both about to catch on fire.

this continues all school year, because it’s a two-part class. meng yao comes to office hours, and he and lan xichen are stringently appropriate the whole time, and at no point do they so much as brush fingers. they see each other every single day. 

huaisang thinks this is 1) absolutely hilarious and 2) the perfect distraction. he wingmans the hell out of meng yao in class, he third-wheels on office hours specifically to make it worse, and he arranges “chance” meetings between them outside of class. (he got some details about lan xichen’s daily schedule from wei wuxian, who he is eternally surprised is actually somehow getting information from lan wangji the silent wonder)

(he’s not getting it from lan wangji; lan xichen is wingmanning his little brother. the info wei wuxian is passing on is straight from the horse’s mouth.)

nie huaisang thinks he’s being very clever and sneaky in arranging his classes and portfolio to make it look like he’s just taking electives when he’s really planning on switching to a fine arts major at the last possible minute

he is being clever and sneaky, but meng yao knows what he’s doing anyway

meng yao is keeping that ball up in the air as long as he can though, because that’s a later-problem. 

in addition to falling in extremely professional love with his ta, his asshole dad has also come out of the woodwork and is trying to involve him in corporate espionage. which is less than super great. 

on the one side, asshole dad who hasn’t supported you in 22 years and didn’t care when your mother died when you were 16 and pushed you down the stairs because you had the audacity to ask for help, who will gladly frame you even if you don’t help. on the other hand, your boss, who has treated you well for a boss, but has explicitly told you your job depends on keeping his little brother as out-of-trouble as possible and who you don’t think will believe you

in this au, he’s solidly with the nie clan because: Golden Fucking Ticket, where the strings are “don’t let huaisang fuck up too bad,” and where “fuck up” means like. drunk driving or failing a class. he’ll probably even keep his job after huaisang’s art degree reveal. all dear old dad is offering is a jail sentence.

but he still needs to somehow convince jgs that he’s double-crossing nie enterprises without actually doing that, so that he doesn’t get framed for doing it.

it’s stressful.

lan xichen’s life isn’t roses and pearls either, though it’s not nearly as stressful as playing double-agent corporate espionage while also babysitting huaisang and getting a degree

lan xichen’s life is all about being the Dutiful Eldest Son so that lan wangji can have an inch of freedom

this includes becoming a corporate accountant (a job he’s bored just thinking about) and marrying a Good Girl From A Respectable Family (he is extremely gay), and eventually having 2.5 children and a white picket fence and a dog (he’s a cat person and doesn’t know what to do with children). he tells himself it’s all for lan wangji and it’s almost enough to make him want to do it.

being the ta for his thesis advisor’s philosophy and ethics class was supposed to be his Fun Indulgent Treat because he has no idea what “fun” or “indulgent” or “treat” mean

but now he’s in love with one of his students and that’s. not. good.

he’s all of 21 and he’s pretty sure he’s going to be blacklisted from all jobs for his entire life unless he manages, somehow, to keep anyone from knowing how entirely unprofessional he’s being. 

he is trying very hard to distract himself from his gayngst by helping wangji with his own. 18-year-olds can be so oblivious in love, he thinks, failing to see any irony at all.

he’s also been telling his bff mingjue about this extremely painful experience this entire time, under a pseudonym. if mingjue has to hear one more word about “Y”’s dimples, he’s going to scream and then he’s going to force Y into a closet with xichen and not let them out until they’ve solved this. he’s very tired.

at one point when he’s about to pass out from extreme eye contact, he gives meng yao his number so that he can “pass it to nie huaisang, in case he has any questions” and just. prays really hard that meng yao will text him after classes are over and he’s back to just being a grad student and they can be friends.

BUT. BEFORE HE HAS THE CHANCE. IN THAT TIME BETWEEN FINALS ENDING AND GRADES BEING TURNED IN.

lan xichen begins his summer internship at nie enterprises in accounting. and meng yao returns to fill in for an admin on her maternity leave. and they see each other in the break room. 

both of them: *internal gay screaming* Hi, what a coincidence, how are you doing? 

(boys, you are in different departments, nobody cares if you date as long as you don’t start fucking on the desks. they don’t know this because they’re young and very concerned with being Professional and with Career Advancement.)

they have Very Professional lunch together every day. and will buy each other coffee, Professionally. and it would be much more professional if they would just actually make out and then come to work like normal people instead of clearly wanting to make out every time they see each other and instead being Very Incredibly Professional with their words and actions.

mingjue clues in that this is Y. meng yao is Y. Oh my god, first i didn’t want to know that, second this is going to be so easy, and then i’ll never have to listen to xichen wax rhapsodic about his eyes again, he thinks.

he is incorrect. 

the harder he tries, the more vehemently perfect their professionalism becomes. which means he’s watching them have extremely intense eye contact at work and can’t actually say anything about it because, it’s just eye contact? what is he going to say? stop looking at people when delivering tps reports?

he also can’t say anything outright like “just. kiss. him.” because. he’s both of their Entire Boss. at the moment he’s xichen’s boss’s boss’s boss. he can’t do anything without probably violating sexual harassment laws.

mingjue is tired.

meanwhile the corporate espionage double-agent act is still ongoing and meng yao continues to be stressed

mingjue is alerted to meng yao “stealing” secrets and has a freak-out; he hasn’t slept in three days and he trusted meng yao and how could he? was this his plan all along WAS HE ONLY PRETENDING TO BE DELICATE AND POOR

xichen steps between them and insists there’s a reasonable explanation and jesus christ mingjue have you slept when was the last time you’ve eaten you look terrible let’s get you to bed and talk about this in the morning

(meng yao doesn’t realize that he’s clutched on to lan xichen’s suit until after he releases it and lan xichen is trying, very hard, to pretend that it didn’t happen because he won’t be able to think of anything else if it did)

xichen, immediately after mingjue is in huaisang’s care: i believe you, but what the fuck is happening, yao.

(if he wasn’t so rattled by the entire mingjue-reaming thing yao would be able to savor lan xichen saying fuck sooooo much better.)

(once yao explains it is a strain not to kiss him right then and there in that empty conference room but he deserves better than lan xichen, who can’t bring anything to the table and can’t even bring him home to eat at his table, because he is the Dutiful Eldest Son and his closet needs to be made of motherfuckin steel)

(huaisang knows exactly what the fuck is up and talks mingjue down, because meng yao is sneaky but he wasn’t counting on huaisang like. actually caring.) 

this is also the exact same day where lan wangji brings wei wuxian home for dinner and this goes. as well as might be expected. given Uncle hates everything about wei wuxian from his motorcycle to his leather to his attitude. but wangji is happy and he’s smiling and that’s why lan xichen is doing this. that’s why lan xichen is doing everything. 

the next day the 3-zun make a Plan to trap jgs and then get them audited by the irs, since if he’s doing shady espionage stuff he’s also almost certainly doing shady tax stuff (they’re right, he is)

after the internship is over, that very evening, lan xichen asks meng yao if he wants to “hang out, as friends”

oh, you thought this pining dysfunctional trainwreck was going to end here? buddy. lan xichen is in fucking narnia, he’s so deep in the closet, because he must be Dutiful.

they go on several not-a-dates doing Friend Things. and several study sessions where no studying is done. and eventually.

lan qiren: so when are you introducing me to your boyfriend? he seems like a good kid, nothing like that wei wuxian character

turns out lan xichen’s self-sacrificial bargain with the universe was borne from a place of living in a heteropatriarchy and not actually from the reality of his uncle’s beliefs, who knew

(lan qiren loves his nephews and wants them to be happy. he also has eyes, in his head, that connect to his brain. he knew xichen was probably gay by the time the kid was 14, and started reading books with titles like “how to accept your gay son” in the living room. xichen assumed this was about wangji, because he also has eyes and wants his baby brother to be happy. wangji bringing a boy home was actually a big surprise to his uncle. this family does not actually talk to each other about things.)

anyway the next friend-not-a-date that he and yao go on, he asks yao on a real date.

Hi! I just read your wonderful fic Remain Nameless and it is out of this world amazing. I just absolutely loved it!! You have such a gift with words, and I’m so glad Im able to read your work. I do have one question regarding appointing Astoria as Associate Director of the foundation. Wouldn’t it be a little regressive having a pureblood as ‘head’ of this muggleborn initiative. Isn’t the purpose of this foundation to help and normalize relations with muggleborns and their family and most importantly facilitate their entry to the magical world? Because in a situation like that, the board of directors and the staff need to be majorly muggleborn as they can and should work from their experience. Even if Hermione is still the actual founder and head of the organization, the day-to-day activities are managed by Astoria, which defeats the purpose of empowering the voices of muggleborns. I’m not saying that Astoria is prejudiced, clearly she is not but in this case no matter how much of an ally one is, you cannot speak of the experiences of a marginalized group of people. Astoria shouldn’t be speaking for muggleborns. Idk it was just a thought to point out as this scenario is even more pertinent in today’s society. I mean no offense I just wanted to have a discussion on this point.

I’m not really sure what kind of answer you’re looking for here, all I can tell you is how I envision Hermione’s vision of her eponymous charity. Hermione is the head of it. She is the name, face, and genius behind it. Nothing happens without her say-so.

As Draco tells her:

“Because you’re Executive Director and nothing happens without your approval.” (Chapter 31)

And later:

“…this is your legacy Granger, relish in it.” (Chapter 46).

If you really want me to get into the nitty-gritty of how I head-canon it: Hermione sits at the top as Executive Director and she has a volunteer Board of Directors that will serve terms and once the charity takes off, there’s a nominations and elections process for this (which would be majority muggleborn/muggle parents. Though Hermione would probably welcome a pureblood or two like Arthur Weasley given his experience drafting The Muggle Protection Act referenced in Chamber of Secrets).

As Hermione tells Astoria in Chapter 45: “…though I do have final say, I prefer this fund to run as democratically as possible.”

Further, as you said in your ask: “the purpose of this foundation is to help and normalize relations with muggleborns and their family and most importantly facilitate their entry into the magical world… the board of directors and staff need to be majorly muggleborn…”

Which, it is. The makeup of the initial staff is majority Muggleborn: Hermione and Dennis (chapter 45) and then as shown in chapter 46, they’ve added Dean Thomas and then Mr. Creevey (a Muggle).

Astoria’s position as Associate Director is day-to-day, in-office, behind-the-scenes work (everything she pitches to Hermione in chapter 45 is in this vein: finding physical headquarters, posting job openings, gala arrangements, an orientation schedule). It would include duties like reading through contracts if other organizations want to partner with them, ensuring the train is scheduled and dinner happens on time or the Ministry received their budget or Mcgonagall received the list of family members attending or if Maureen Tyler has time for a flying demo or determining which board members want to attend...

It’s certainly a lot of work. She’ll eventually have an admin, but I don’t see a top-down structure for the other staff (so Dennis, Dean, and Mr. Creevey aren’t her subordinates, they are just all responsible for different facets of the fund and Astoria is the one circling the wagons, so to speak, so it all runs smoothly and stays within Hermione’s original vision.) I’m not sure how this undermines anyone that would benefit from this fund. Astoria is not speaking on behalf of Muggleborns.

Dennis has the more visible role, as he should given his life experience, as outlined in chapter 45 when they discuss together his title of Family Outreach Coordinator: “Dennis’s ultimate goal was to make sure the whole family felt accepted by the magical world…”

Chapter 46 sees his vision (and just one small part of his role) realized as he rounds up the muggle siblings of the incoming students to answer their questions, while Mr. Creevey leads the Muggle parents on a tour of the castle, and Astoria handles luncheon logistics in the background. There’s a brief description in this chapter of how Dean recruits volunteers for their fund and has initiated an internship program for students.

Hermione recognizes Astoria as a good source of knowledge for wizarding society and culture given her pureblood upbringing, but she does not put stock in the superiority of certain families based on circumstance of birth. She can be a source of “this is a certain common wizarding custom that muggleborn children might not have awareness of,” and can perhaps help advise how to bridge that cultural divide for children and families brand new to the world of magic without teaching that this way of life is better. 

But again, Astoria’s role is mostly taking the tedious logistical load off Hermione’s shoulders (does Hagrid have permits for some of the creatures he wants to show the kids? Would Madam Rosmerta be willing to send up some of her magical beverages for the parents? How much gold does Hermione want directed towards school supply funds this year? Are there enough places for the families to stay in Hogsmeade during orientation? Mcgonagall banned all WWW products on Hogwarts grounds, but George Weasley wants to send free gift baskets to all the families, how do we tell him “thanks but no thanks?”).

If Hermione wanted just any pureblood involved for the sake of having one, she could have just asked Draco. Astoria asked to help not because she wants credit (she’s not asking Hermione if she can go around making speeches in her stead or give interviews to the Prophet), but because she cares about Hermione’s vision of a more equitable magical society.

So that’s a whole lot and I’ll just end this by saying it’s perfectly okay if a certain plot point didn’t work for you.

sien, do you have any tips for starting a roleplay? i've been wanting to start one of my own for a long time now, but i'm a college student and i'm afraid i won't be able to keep up with the work of being an admin, especially if i'm the only one. since you have an rp of your own, i'd love some advice on that, or just advice in general for running a group. ( also tbh i just rly love ur blog <3 )

❞ HI DARLING !! First of all, thank you so much -- you are so sweet, and the fact that you enjoy my blog means the world to me. Now, for your question. As a college student myself, I would suggest to do everything at your own pace, dear. Especially when it comes to creating a main -- write down a nice plot ( if you have a plot-inspired group, of course ), put thought into your rules, your application, your roles if it isn’t an appless group. Know where you want to go with your group !! If it involves plot drops, make sure to think those out beforehand -- or at least a few, so you won’t have to do that anymore when you are going through the first weeks of roleplaying. Because I would say that the first weeks are the hardest ones to get through. 

If you aren’t confident enough to give your main a makeover, or you would like to have a more ‘ experienced admin ‘ beside you, I would absolutely suggest looking for a co-admin first. Because, like you said, as a college student you might get too busy to be online sometimes so it will be very nice to have a co-admin or admin team to fall back on, trust me !! And if you aren’t certain where to find a co-admin right now, you can always wait until your group is open and running and see whether some of your members would be willing to help you out. Particularly co-admins who are not all in your timezone might be a great way to boost inclusiveness, because otherwise it is often easy to forget about other timezones and make events or acceptances and what not only be suited for the people who live in the same zone as you -- and that would immediately create a divide. So, keep in mind that people from all over the world might end up being part of your group -- and having admins from all over the world might actually help navigate times and stuff.

Further, I think it is super important to be open-minded and willing to listen and adjust, as an admin. None of us are perfect, and we all have to learn and keep learning every day. The rpc is a place with a lot of people who are all very diverse in so many ways. There is so much we can learn from one another. So if you said something that might have been perceived wrongly by a member or a lurker, or you have something on your main or in your group that is concerning to someone / some people, always listen. Don’t try to justify what you did, regardless of whether you think it’s right or wrong, simply because it’s your group and you don’t like being made aware of a fault. Everyone makes mistakes, but what separates a good admin from a bad admin is how you handle those. You should always be open to receive criticism ( but not hate !! If something cannot be said in a mature way, then there is no use listening to it... Because everyone makes mistakes, even the people on anon who sometimes seem to forget that ) and take advice to heart. If someone tells you there is an issue with a psd you are using, change it and don’t get defensive. If someone tells you, you should promote more diversity and take measures to have your group be more diverse, change the way you are doing things to accommodate diversity. I cannot stress it enough how important it is to listen and learn, and make changes instead of get defensive. I definitely think that is something to keep in mind, when starting a group -- realise you might get feedback, and be open to that and see it as an opportunity to learn and improve your group, rather than an attack. Don’t give up on your group -- but try and keep working on it, keep improving it.

And then lastly, I would also suggest to keep on going. Even if your group doesn’t get the amount of attention you would like it to get, from the get go. Not every group gets dozens of apps from the moment of hitting the tags, in fact, very few do. So don’t be alarmed when it takes some time, and don’t get discouraged. Keep sending out shoutout requests to rph’s, keep hitting the tags by setting up a queue, keep asking for feedback to see whether you maybe can improve things to make your group more appealing to applicants. If you really want to open a group of your own, and you really want to make it work -- then try everything to make it work. Don’t give up straight away, because then you will just lose without even putting up a fight. It’s important to keep members you have engaged, get them to connect to one another, create a solid basis. Once you have a solid group of members, your roleplay won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

what we all know: A quiet Hufflepuff, Dirk has never been one to involve himself in fights. Often, he just does what he can to survive. Even when he was in Hogwarts, Dirk stuck to what he needed to do to get through the day and then would keep to himself past that. Now working in the Ministry, it’s hard for him to keep to himself like he would prefer, but he makes it work. Something he doesn’t tell people about is the reason for him being quiet, is the trauma he faced in school. That when he says he was just trying to survive, it wasn’t an exaggeration, and those who did it in school have continued into adulthood.

For some people, the stories that they adored as children only seem to come to life in their heads, but for Dirk, his life was like it jumped off the pages of one of his mom’s books. Dirk is the only child of an English professor and author from Edinburgh. While they didn’t have much, they did what they could to make sure their son had everything he needed. What they did realize was that all Dirk wanted was to hear the stories they told him. He loved imagining what it would be like to fight pirates, travel to space, and even cast spells like a wizard. Dirk had never really cared that his family didn’t have a lot in terms of money or things, because they had a lot of fun together. There was so much more they could do with it just being them.

Something his parents hadn’t expected was the odd things their son could do. Small things that would happen around their son that they couldn’t explain. Even Dirk found himself questioning why he was suddenly lifting small objects without touching them or changing things without being near it. Eventually, the answer had arrived in the form of a visitor, someone who explained that the Cresswell’s son was a Wizard. Even without being born to a wizarding family, he still developed powers and would soon be eligible to go to a wizarding school for young witches and wizards. At first this was too much for his parents to process, but Dirk was in love. Suddenly he was given the chance to live out some of his favorite stories. He was given the chance to learn about all things that had to do with wizards. The young child almost couldn’t believe it was actually happening. As the man said, his letter arrived in the mail and soon he was off to what he believed to be a great adventure. 

Hogwarts was overwhelming for the young wizard. Going from one world where you knew how it worked to another world where you had no clue was more of a shack that he had anticipated. Especially when it came to the idea of a hat knowing who someone was and where to place them. Dirk himself had been placed in Hufflepuff, where he seemed to fit in with the other students perfectly. They all seemed to have similar ways of thinking to him, which helped when Dirk learned one of the hardest lessons of being a wizard. What Dirk hadn’t expected when joining the wizarding world was the hatred people felt towards wizards like him, towards muggle borns. Of course Dirk never could understand why someone hated a group of people so much. Muggles were just people living their lives like anyone else. There was no threat. Not only did he learn that people generally didn’t like muggles or muggle born wizards, but that they were willing to do anything to prove the point that they didn’t belong. Dirk had spent years being tormented and treated terribly over the years, traumatizing him a bit. However, with Dirk being who he was, he continued to try and power through as best he could. 

Lessons at first were a little difficult for Dirk. While other students had known about the wizarding world and some of the things that go with it, Dirk knew nothing. Everything was new to him, but eventually he started to get the hang of it. He was able to pass all of his lessons and even do fairly well on his tests, giving him the chance to do just about anything once he got out of school. Outside of lessons, Dirk did fairly well for himself. He was a Hufflepuff that made friends easily, and was open minded to others opinions. Even met some people who didn’t agree with the idea of muggle borns in the school, but still seemed to accept him as a friend once they moved passed it. Having met so many people through school gave Dirk some new perspectives on what it was to be a wizard, and potentially where he would go with his career. 

Finishing up his time at Hogwarts, Dirk now was left with the choice of what he wanted to do with his life. Of course he wasn’t going to leave this magical world behind, but he also wasn’t going to leave the muggle world behind. He made sure that he kept up with his family and friends from the world he was raised in, while also keeping a life going in the world he lived in now. Using his strengths to help his career, Dirk found himself working in the Goblin Liaison Office. He's naturally good at bringing people together and being able to form some sort of solution for those involved. Dirk was actually so good at this job, he quickly found himself becoming the Assistant Head of the office. His goal is to eventually become the Head of the office and see things between Goblins and Wizards become more civil, but that is a hope that will take a few years of work. 

One of the harder things for Dirk to cope with right now is the war that’s been brewing. People he knew in school, and those he now knows from the ministry, voicing how they believe Muggles should be rid of. People that could include his family and his friends, vanishing. With everything this war was bringing hitting home for him, Dirk found himself on the edge of trying to figure out what he wanted to do. Part of him actually wanted to help, wanting to fight, but he couldn’t help but think about what that could mean for his parents. He never told them about the war, not wanting to worry them, but he worried about them getting found, getting hurt, just because of who he was. So he decided to lay low. To keep to himself, but if someone were to pay close attention, they might find him providing some help to the side he believes in most.

EMMELINE VANCE - Dirk has been friends with Emmeline since she started working at the Ministry. She’s a good friend to him and he has always enjoyed her company. 

BERTHA JORKINS - Bertha is someone Dirk doesn’t understand. She’s always been a bit rude to him, even though he doesn’t really talk to her. He has no clue what he ever did to her, but maybe one day he’ll ask. 

AMYCUS CARROW - Amycus is one of the people that actually haunt Dirk’s dreams. He can’t actually prove that Amycus has ever come after him, but he can almost remember it happening. He’s so sure it was him, but what can you do with no proof?
