New Fic: new look
The Untamed / Wangxian / 6,000 words
Modern AU, established relationship, wlw Wangxian, very soft BDSM, sorting through some Gender Feelings, doing my part to feed the Gentle Dominant Wei Wuxian tag my beloved. 🥰 Written for the Subji Mini Bang!
Wei Ying crouches to fold the bathmat in thirds, then stands and nods at the mat. Lan Zhan sinks to her knees and bows her head. Above her, there are clattering noises, and the click of clamshell containers opening and closing. “This is giving me major middle school makeover nostalgia vibes,” Wei Ying says under her breath. Then she sits down on the closed toilet seat, legs spread wide around Lan Zhan’s shoulders. “Head up,” she instructs, “and eyes closed.” Lan Zhan obeys. The instructions are oddly familiar. Wei Ying isn’t the only one with memories of schoolgirl makeovers. But Lan Zhan's aren't the kind of memories she wants to revisit... or so she thinks.

——————
Xichen,
Jiang-zongzhu moves quickly. As soon as Wen Qing was finished with her testimony, he had Yu-furen and a group of seniors travel to Dafan. Her family had been informed, and had packed their belongings, the majority of which will be moved via cart and horse, accompanied by senior Jiang disciples, but A-Die and Lan-xiansheng also sent seniors to help, and the children, elderly, and several pregnant women were evacuated by sword so as to shield them from the perils of travel. Jin Guangshan offered senior disciples as well, but his offer was not accepted given the current situation.
A man was caught in the family area of Lotus Cove, having taken a woman named Sisi hostage as she was delivering the midday meal to us, but she wears a stiletto in her hair and it wound up in the man’s chest. He was dressed in nondescript clothing, but an examination of the body revealed his affiliation with the Jin, so Jin Guangshan is on very thin ice, though he of course denied all knowledge.
The children saw the body, with the struggle having taken place just outside the area we’re confined to, and the woman was shaken and bruised. I had drawn Baxia, but the man fell before I could act. A-Die is livid with the Jin, especially since A-Sang and I could have been in danger. Jin Guangshan even tried to say this was proof Jiang-zongzhu should turn over the two women and their children as he has demanded, claiming he failed to protect them. Then Jiang-zongzhu revealed the evidence that the assailant was Jin.
So now the discussion conference is even more fraught. Jin-zongzhu hasn’t been ordered to leave Lotus Pier yet, but it seems like he could be if anything further occurs.
On the other hand, the evacuation of the children and elders of Dafan Wen went off without a hitch. Now there’s a popo who stays in the family area with us during the day, who minds the younger children while the older ones are housed in a disciple pavilion. Now that he has his jiejie and the other Wen children around, Wen Ning has calmed down. Jiang Lian is thrilled to have new playmates, as well. Wen Qing has spent much of her time since her testimony resting, and she often has a gaggle of toddlers napping around her.
The idea that the Jiang “take in strays” sounds like someone who does not value a healthy populace, snakes that want to swallow elephants. I admire the Jiang sect in their willingness to look beyond bloodline at the mettle of a person rather than their circumstances. Meng Yao and his mother are two such examples, and no doubt they will do better under the protection of the Jiang clan. His mother’s pupils are street children and former prostitutes learning to read so they may find better lives.
I’m only glad A-Die takes us back to the assigned Nie quarters each evening, and I wonder how Wangji is able to handle as well as he has. Sometimes the children are quite loud, but he simply sits beside Jiang Wuxian and seems unbothered. They’ll just sit next to each other, Wangji reading and Jiang Wuxian talking with A-Sang or one of his siblings or engaged in painting or some other such activity—though your brother always makes sure he is between them and any egress. Sometimes Jiang Wuxian will join them, and Wangji watches or follows. I’ve even seen him roll a ball with a toddler. A-Sang has been vocal about how he was always snubbed in their childhood but now he plays with random babies. He forgets the biting phase, but that was more a game for Wangji than anyone else.
The different Wen faction representatives have stopped demanding Jiang Wuxian be punished, according to the servants, after Wen Qing’s testimony revealed his depravity. Suddenly it has become more likely that he was hurting the boy and whatever curse that was placed on him killed him in the backlash. Of course, that could be a ploy to lower our guards.
Plus the body of one of the representatives who had been insistent that Jiang Wuxian be turned over to the Wen was found in the river, apparently from foul play. The man had been defending Wen Ruohan and denouncing Wen Qing as a liar, in addition to being quite rude to the other Wen factions, so it’s not exactly surprising, but it’s just a relief to no longer hear that some idiot is calling for a kid’s blood.
There are hints that the conference may end soon, rumors that the representative was assassinated and that worse is occurring in Qishan. Hopefully it won’t spill over—Qinghe is too close to Qishan for comfort.
Your brother is fine—happy, in fact, that Jiang-zongzhu has decided Jiang Wuxian will return to the Cloud Recesses with him to winter there for his own safety. I believe Jiang-zongzhu hopes by the time winter is over, Qishan will be too distracted by in-fighting to even think about the boy.
Truly, his attachment to Jiang Wuxian is close, and he is more engaged with people than he has ever been, and I suspect that’s due to their relationship. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if their betrothal leads to a happy marriage—they already seem to move in tandem. It’s odd, but very interesting to watch. A-Sang keeps sighing about yuanfen and love matches, even.
A-Die intends to accompany the Lan, I think to ensure they aren’t attacked. Strength in numbers and all, so I will get to visit you after all.
Do not worry. I will help protect your brother and his betrothed until they are safely home.
Mingjue
—————
Mingjue,
I very much appreciate the continued updates, though the news of the attempt to get into the Lotus Cove family area is concerning—even if it doesn’t seem to have been targeting Jiang Wuxian. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the Wen factions would try for Wen Qing, so I’m glad your father and Shufu sent extra disciples to protect her family as they relocate to Yunmeng.
I hope Mo-guniang and Meng-ayi are holding up well, under the circumstances, and that Meng Yao stays safe. I’m certain he’s quite worried about his mother, but he seemed to really care for his young half-brother, as well. You said in your previous letter that you’d had some good conversations with him, and I hope you’ve had more—he could use friends in other sects, especially given current events. I hope he writes at some point as well, if he’s interested; perhaps I should write to him first so he is more comfortable.
Jiang-zongzhu’s decision to evacuate the children and elderly via sword while the stronger members of the Dafan Wen community handle the more difficult part of the relocation is wise. Honestly, that Jin-zongzhu would offer his disciples for such a mission, after having just been linked to an attempt to get access to the family area by taking a hostage, is shockingly brazen in its arrogance. That sort of treatment of another major sect is reminiscent of Wen Ruohan, and a perceived power vacuum presumably left by Qishan Wen could lead to issues in the future.
While I was at Lotus Pier, I read a treatise in the Jiang library about how the loss of a large clan can lead to a fight among remaining large clans seeking to fill the void and become more powerful, based on the historical downfall of the Xue clan. I don’t recall the title, but if you ask Jiang Wuxian about it, I’m sure he can send a servant to fetch it, as I’m sure you would enjoy reading it. Wei Changze, his birth father, wrote it—apparently he was a historian of sorts. Jiang Wuxian was thrilled when I showed it to him. I didn’t have the opportunity to see if there were more documents by him, but the servants could look and bring them to you, I’m sure.
The death of the Wen representative makes it clear a sort of schism is occurring within the Wen sect and may mean rumors as to the fate of Wen Ruohan’s sons are not so far-fetched. Hopefully, it will not spill over with the defection of Wen Qing, but I have no doubt our elders will have thought of that issue. But it seems more likely that her decision has saved her branch and will prevent her being seen as a threat by anyone who isn’t an ardent Wen Ruohan supporter. I too hope any strife doesn’t spill over into Qinghe, though at least your father has warning and can keep tabs on any of the smaller Nie-affiliated sects.
I am not surprised Wangji is handling the presence of others more easily—Jiang Wuxian’s influence, again. The time in Lotus Pier has in some ways helped him grow accustomed to it so he is not so overwhelmed. I wonder if the quiet of the Cloud Recesses might have similar impacts on other children, if perhaps visits to more bustling places might better prepare them for the world.
I suspect Huaisang has the right of it. Fate brings together those that are a thousand miles apart, and it occurred in this case. Wangji seems to find more satisfaction in life since he became close to Jiang Wuxian. Wangji also believes finding Jiang Wuxian again is yuanfen—he’s quite a bit more of a romantic than I expected. I think Shufu was worried, after Fuqin, but Wangji is his own person.
May your journey be safe and peaceful. I will be happy to see you, and for my brother and Jiang Wuxian to be safe in the Cloud Recesses soon. Hopefully there will be no more complications with the discussion conference.
Thank you for your protection,
Xichen
—————
Nie Mingjue uses a chengyu: “A man's greed is like a snake that wants to swallow an elephant.” Lan Xichen uses one: “Fate brings together those that are a thousand miles apart” and alludes to another: “With love, water is enough; without love, food doesn't satisfy.” At the end of his letter, he uses another: “journey safe and peaceful,” a quote from a Ming dynasty poet, Fan Yiyi.

AU where the real reason why Nie Huaisang fainted at the indoctrination — and why it was never mentioned what exactly happened to him, where he went, or how he got out — is because Nie Huaisang's real reason for agreeing to go to Nightless City was so he could spy on the Wen.
Afterall, Nie Huaisang is the type of person who could stalk a bird for days straight until he was close enough to catch them by hand.
He's the type of person who doesn't get noticed, who blends in, who looks weak and unassuming, always the least threatening person in the room.
Nie Huaisang is the type of person who's smarter than he looks, who has managed to make faux fainting into an artform, who is frequently underestimated, ignored, and overlooked.
He's clever and patient and quiet.
And infiltrating the Nightless City when he's already been invited in? A walk in the park.
It's no trouble at all to wait a bit, until every single guard and servant in the palace knows just how useless and pathetic and weak and non-threatening he is, and then —
— pretend to pass out from heatstroke, be carried into medical rooms he probably shouldn't have access to, and then — when he hears about the other hostages being left for dead — dissappear.
No one notices him sneaking around, and if they do they don't think much of it — afterall, that's just weak, scared little Nie Huaisang! Look at how he cowers at every shadow! There's nothing dangerous about letting him wander around.
Why is he still here? Oh, that's right — he fainted right before the Xuanwu nighthunt, so he was left behind. There's no point in holding classes when it's just him, and he's useless in nighthunts, so Wen Chao must not've known what to do with him.
With nothing for him to do, and him being too weak and stupid to be useful, there's no harm in just leaving him to wander about aimlessly, undoubtedly scared out of his wits.
— and so Nie Huaisang is dismissed and ignored even when he is noticed, and anyone who notices him forgets about him soon after.
Combine this with how surprisingly stealthy he is, and you've got a great spy to sneak about your enemy's palace undetected, listening in on secret conversations and rummaging through confidential documents.
Who knows what he could accomplish!
Maybe he'll even moonlight as an assassin... 😏
(Watch out, Wen Ruohan... You were so worried about the older brother taking revenge, you forgot to account for the younger brother...)
---
Also, forgot to mention: I sincerely doubt whatever sword Nie Huaisang gave the Wens was his real one, considering how his father died...
(Wen Ruohan sabotaged his saber.)
(There's no way his da-ge would ever risk Wen Ruohan getting his hands on his little brother's saber after that... More likely, it's hidden away in a qiankun pouch.)
(I doubt they searched them going in — if they had, they probably would've just confiscated their swords then.)
So, he should still have his saber with him. Whether he uses it to fly away and escape, or to assassinate a certain someone... who knows?

I’m Tired Of Always Chasin’, Chasin’ After You
-1117 words
Xiyao modern au, hurt no comfort
AO3 upload
TWS: breakups, overall angst, cursing
A/N: they may be out of character as this is my first time writing for this fandom
*・゜゚・*:.。..。.:*・'・*:.。. .。.:*・゜゚・**・゜゚・*:.。..。.:*・'・
Lan Xichen was always slow to anger. He always had control over his temper. Whenever pissed, he always would remove himself from the situation; making sure to take a breath of fresh air. The only time he remembers actually losing it was at his brother’s husband but those two are happily married now and recently adopted a son. However, his boyfriend, Jin Guangyao, was close to pushing him over. He slept in his office instead of coming back to their shared apartment at night. The actions he took in his plot to climb the ranks at his company hurt everyone Jin Guangyao Yao was close to. His brother, father, mentor, and friends all cut ties with him. The only one who didn’t was Lan Xichen.
Xichen wanted to give his A-Yao a chance, really he really did. However, the trust that was the glue between the two was weakening to the point where it might as well have fully dissolved into nothing. Was there really nothing between the two left? Xichen didn’t want to believe that. Surely the blossoms of his love for A-Yao were still in full bloom and hadn't withered and expired yet.
He invited A-Yao out to their favourite cafe. It was where they had their first date and where A-Yao asked him out before that. It was a high tea place with exquisite china cups and teapots. On the platter placed in the middle of the table, there was an assortment of different cakes, macaroons, and other small baked goods.
Xichen was surprised that this date could even happen. A-Yao was so concerned with his job that they had to reschedule multiple times because he worked too late or took on another project, pushing their date further and further back. Sometimes he even forgot to show up, leaving Xichen at the place alone. They were only able to go out today because Xichen quite literally chased after him to remind him. Xichen had this thought that occasionally popped into his mind. What if A-Yao didn’t give a fuck about their relationship anymore. Xichen knew this was an intrusive thought and tried to push it away.
“What’s been keeping you busy?” Xichen asked him.
“I’ve received an anonymous letter detailing Qin Su.” A-Yao replied, cutting a piece of cake on his plate.
“A letter? About your assistant?”
“Former assistant, and no, not completely ” A-Yao corrected. Former? He fired her? A-Yao loved his assistant and would always sing praise about her over text, phone, and in person to Xichen. Why would he fire her?
“Not completely?” Xichen asks, confused.
Complete and utter silence from A-Yao.
“Please answer me.”
“They threatened me. They told me that all my secrets would be released unless I fired A-su.” He muttered, avoiding eye contact with Xichen. “They wanted her fired because they felt I only hired her because of nepotism.”
Xichen let out a sigh of disappointment. “A-Yao, what if they didn’t even have your secrets? Then, you just hurt your sister for nothing.”
“Babe, I had no choice! What if they did know? Then what would I have done if they were released?”
“Did you want to fire her?”
“No! Like I said, I didn't really have a choice. Maybe they were right, maybe it was nepotism.”
“How could you not have a choice. She was your assistant, a part of your branch at work. Besides, if you felt it was nepotism, why would you hire her in the first place?” Xichen scolded
“I-I was pressured into it by my father a few years ago.”
Xichen settled down. “I see.”
“I was just scared this person would just reveal the fact that I got my father and brother fired just last year..”
“You what?”
A-Yao looks him dead in the eye, pleadingly his voice shaking. “I-I felt I had to. But, babe, you don’t have to worry. You know I’d never hurt you, right?”
Xichen snaps at him, standing up and putting his hands down on the table, gaining attention from everyone else around. “You said you loved her. You say you love me, but how do I know that? How do I know you’re not just using me?! I just wish you’d thought things through before I you know, fell in love with you?” Fuck. Xichen can’t take that back. He does admit that he wanted to confront him about that. Not like that, though. He wanted to ask him about his worries, have A-Yao comfort him, and then tell him it’s okay and he won’t have to worry. Xichen fucked that up. That won’t ever happen. Especially considering Meng Yao’s reaction. His eyes widen, he mumbles something that looks somewhat like an apology, rummages through his wallet, leaves money to pay, and then he runs. Xichen felt he should chase after him and say he’s sorry, so he’s not the one who got away. But he can’t. He feels glued to his seat.
After a while and a very concerned waiter who went by the name Wen Ning from his name tag asking if he’s okay, Xichen decides he’ll go home, apologize to Meng Yao, and maybe they can move past this like nothing happened? He leaves money to pay for his portion of the bill and spends what feels like forever on public transit.
Once he unlocks the door, His apartment looks more desolate, as if something were missing. The grey colour palette looks more hostile. It reminded him of when he and A-Yao discussed painting the walls and agreed their landlord would have their heads. He walks into their bedroom when he finally notices it:All of A-Yao’s stuff is just gone, as if it were reduced to nothing by ashes. He found a note tied to a bouquet of hyacinths and rue...hyacinths and rue? Xichen wasn’t very well versed in flower language; that’s something he’d have to ask his brother-in-law about. He decided to read the note.
To my dearest Xichen,
I really cherished every moment we spent together. However, I realized I really treated you like shit. As if I didn’t give a fuck about you and as if I was only using you for protection against my father and for your status as a Lan. Towards the end of our relationship, I couldn’t give you what you deserved, and I didn’t communicate well enough with you. I want you to know I really give a fuck about you. I love you, and for that reason, I’m killing our relationship. Despite you telling me you’d die for me at one point, I feel you’re better off without me. I bid you well, my love.
With regret,
Jin Guangyao

It had been so long since Qingheng-jun had last seen his younger son that, upon meeting him again, he was filled with an unfortunate thought: he couldn’t recognize Wangji as anything more than an unknown Lan disciple.
Well. Perhaps that was not true. Wangji looked like Xichen, and Qingheng-jun had had to interact with his heir in more recent times. But if not for those moments, he would not be able to recognize either.
This did not particularly bother him. He knew his lot in life, the consequences of what he and Xiuqin had done. His sons were strangers to him; this was simply a fact.
However, though he didn’t know them, he had believed he understood his brother and the way the boys would be raised. From what he remembered of Wangji, the only behavior issue he ever had was refusing to sleep in his own bed at night without Xichen there to lull him to rest.
(Distantly, Qingheng-jun recalled that Qiren had told him of other broken rules after that incident, things that Qiren had deemed important enough to inform him of. The details were hazy now.)
Beheading sect heirs—beheading anyone, really—was not something he had believed Wangji capable of. His sons were well-behaved and had never had an emergency bad enough to warrant Qingheng-jun’s attention since the moment they were born.
As such, when a disciple disrupted his seclusion claiming that Qiren needed to see him urgently, Qingheng-jun had said no. When it was explained to him it was an issue with one of his sons, he’d attempted to dismiss the boy. Finally, when Xichen ran up—and yes, he had run, wearing robes flecked in blood, fear and confusion in his eyes—Qingheng-jun had agreed to come.
Now he understood. And looking at Wangji, kneeling nonchalantly while elders and disciples ran about in a panic, no remorse in his eyes, his clothing and skin still bloody from beheading Wen Chao in a room full of guest disciples—Qingheng-jun sighed.
He supposed they should have expected this. Wangji had always been Xiuqin’s boy, after all.
Wangji turned his cold gaze onto Qingheng-jun then.
Yes, Qingheng-jun thought, well familiar with the hatred he saw there. Just like her.

The Untamed / Wangxian / 18,000 words
Alpha LWJ/Beta WWX, starring Wei Wuxian’s Canonical Self-Worth Issues
Wei Wuxian is given clean clothes, and as much food as he wants, and a blanket. He still doesn’t know what a beta is. But he knows he is one, now. And he knows that that’s the reason he has these wonderful things.
When Wei Wuxian was a little boy, Jiang Fengmian brought him home to Lotus Pier; when Yu Ziyuan learned the boy was a beta, she allowed him to stay.
30 years later, a resurrected Wei Wuxian hangs around Cloud Recesses and waits to wear out his welcome.

(Cover by @bichen-suibian )
the thread may stretch or tangle but it will never break
Summary: Following the return of Wen Ning's spiritual cognition, Wei Wuxian doesn't pull away quickly enough to avoid Lan Wangji discovering his secret. Largely CQL-verse with some frankencanon. Lan Wangji POV
When Lan Wangji discovers that Wei Wuxian no longer has a core and learns the story behind it, he refuses to leave the Burial Mounds, vowing not to let his zhiji down. Canon diverges from there.
Explicit. WIP. 24/? chapters plus 2 side fics (so far)
Excerpt:
“I can’t… I’ve already damned myself, Lan Zhan. I can’t damn you too.” Wei Ying grabs his arm. “Don’t you get it? I’ll just drag you down, too!”
For a moment, he’s speechless. This isn’t unusual, but rarely is it due to this much emotion. That Wei Ying thinks so poorly of himself shakes Lan Wangji to his core, and he can only wonder how long he has felt this way.
But Wei Ying has never defended himself against jibes and insults, only ever stepping in to defend those he cares for—and sometimes even complete strangers. Does he truly believe he deserves to be treated poorly, to be reviled and left without protection or aid?
“No,” he says finally, when he finds the words. “Wei Ying could only ever lift me up.”
(Just a little fic-pumping)

Blind!Jiang Cheng AU
What if JC went blind sometime during the 13/16 years¹, but he was able to hide it from the other sect leaders because Zidian was capable of working similarly to Xiao Xingchen's sword by sensing resentful energy so he could still fight.
And so with the help of his loyal disciples — who covered for him and backed him up whenever he encountered something he couldn't get out of, cover up, or explain away — he was able to keep the other sect leaders none the wiser — for a whopping 13/16 years.¹
Zidian is also a large part of the reason why Jiang Cheng tends to go after demonic cultivators personally — because Zidian's ability to sense resentful energy makes him exceptionally good at tracking them down no matter how hard they may try to hide...
¹Depending upon the version of canon, the length of the timeskip is different.

posting it here too lol soo yesterday i posted chapter 1 of my new mdzs fic hehe
here’s the summary:
Wei Wuxian dashes across the distance that separates him from his husband, like a child running through the dark as if that would lessen its existence. He grabs Lan Zhan’s hand and holds the arm close to his side, to a soft breath of laughter.
“Come on, Hanguang-jun,” he half-whispers, because the atmosphere seems to call for it. “Light the way for us.”
(Wei Wuxian has scarcely known fear to be gentle — and still. It's as if there’s something murmuring down the hallway, behind the closed door, next to the window in this howling storm: I’m here, I’m here, I’ve always been here…)
Or, as Wei Wuxian starts to look into the reasons behind the unsettling notion that something is not quite right, something else starts to look back.
this is a case fic, vaguely inspired by the magnus archives. it’s on-going at 12k and partly pre-written. i’d be very happy if you checked it out! we have: married wangxian fathers of four, the junior quartet being awesome, hurt/comfort for the win, everyone being protective of everyone, (and emotional depth to everyone as a treat), musings on the nature of fear and memory, and Intrigue…
