I have gotten exactly one person who wants to hear my Watcher/Listener/Speaker headcanons so here we go :D
Under the cut because this is getting long and I'm not even half way done with the Watchers lol
I am repeating this because I am going to have to make a second post listing out my headcanons about who's who haha
Okay first things first, The Watchers themselves are not evil. They are actually really cool.
It's the fucking Runaway Watchers who suck and are distrioying servers and turning players into themselves. Fuck them nobody likes them.
The Watchers have a fairly simple ruling system, there is a king known as the Head Watcher and their council! The council ranges from 5-10 members and the highest ranking general(s) and are to help the Head Watcher in their decisions. There is also typically at least one heir to the throne, weitehr blood related to the Head or not.
There has only ever been one Head Watcher, known as Xelqua (meaning 'compassionate king' in old ender). Xelqua was created to keep watch over the first players, and later requested to have more of his species to help keep watch are more were created.
The Runaway Watchers started due to a fear of the mortal players becoming aware of the Gods and trying to overthrow them (as players out numbed the Immortals at least 15 to 1), and they started to experiment with turning players into Watchers.
The lucky players permadied before they went through the turning process. The unlucky ones died in agony during it. Then, at last, the first successful player turned Watcher was created.
This player was named Etho.
Xelqua quickly found out about Etho, and turned on his own subjects with no hesitation. Only three of the offenders survived and fled the Watcher's realm, never to return. Xelqua, in an attempt to help Etho, took him in. Etho was allowed into the palace and was treated like royalty, until Xelqua was sure he wouldn't permadie the second he went back to the mortal realm, which took longest then desired.
Then, in a turn of events, the first of many Half-Watchers was discovered.
Well, more like he was being less then smart and didn't realize that the Runaway Watchers had trapped his home.
His name was Joe Hills, and he was supposed to be the Angel of Life, the one to guide the ready souls of the dead to the afterlife. Of course, ever the curious one, he meddled with fate and crossed hairs with the Runaway Watchers, and although he couldn't be a full Watcher, he was half of one.
(in fact, it was just this modification that led him to befriending a zombie hybrid, the first of their kind, when he was assigned to keep her safe)
At the same time, a stray Watcher, nothing special in the crowd except for his unusually large eyes, discovered Watchers could take on a player form.
These two discoveries lead to Xelqua finally bring Etho to a new world, and the Head Watcher was already mourning the loss of his first friend. Etho had one parting gift, a communicator, one designed to work in the Watcher's Realm, so the two of them could keep in touch, and Xelqua will deny to this day that he starting crying over it.
Things couldn't stay perfect, as more and more discoveries and species and entities started appearing, and the Runaway Watchers were still at large, although they didn't attack the realm itself.
Didn't stop them from reigning terror on innocent servers, kidnapping players and breaking worlds beyond repair.
Then the Listeners appeared.
They were neon green and white, such an contrast to the Watcher's vibrant purple and black. And they did not mean good things.
They didn't take the time to talk to Xelqua himself, instead blaming all the destruction on the Watchers as a whole, and started deleting any worlds and permakilling any members of a server where Watchers were spotting, even if it wasn't a Runaway.
This was how the sister of Xelqua died. Her name was Pearlescent, after the unusual shimmer to her wings.
It was a long couple of centuries of this pattern, and quickly Xelqua got tired. He wanted a break. So he established that he would be leaving for a few decades, and created a player form at last.
His name became Grian. And he gave himself a childhood he wished he could undo, but he wouldn't change his new sister for the world.
But soon, he became the admin of an unusual sever, one that aged versions of the longer it went on. But of course, he couldn't escape the Runaway Watchers forever, and they took him from his new friends.
He was never discovered to be Xelqua, but his wings were forever tainted to be an unnatural Watcher's wings. It was all he could do to make sure the Runaways didn't hurt his friends when they took them, as Grian made sure they got away or at least had a way to get out.
But we've been focusing on the Watchers for some time, so let's check on the Listeners for a bit, shall we?
The Listeners have a much stricter ruling system, but after a later development, put one similar to the Watchers in place.
The old system was under a single king, with the entire 'kingdom' being divided into 'low' or 'high' classes. As you might expect, this was a system that hurt those who didn't have power. The higher ups were no different, as their families often ended up being abusive or neglectful, leading to quite the cycle of trauma.
Very few ever broke this cycle of abuse, and even fewer went on to make a place in life or escaping the Listener's realm.
The Listeners are cruel, and will stop at nothing to 'purge the world from the Watchers', often permakilling entire servers including innocents that never did anything. And yet, they are regarded as heroes.
It's all because the actual Watchers have too much on their plates.
While the Listeners are going after random servers with the hint of a Watcher, the actual Watchers are a mess. Xelqua is kidnapped, nobody was established as a stand in Head, and the only ones qualified to lead are Etho (who's busy) and Pearlescent (who's dead (or so they think)). Everybody's having a Time.
Then, suddenly Xelqua appears again, a rather traumatized 12 year old in his shadow. Exion is crowned the prince of the Watchers, and Xelqua protests at how final that sounds. Exion doesn't mind in the end.
Soon though, he must leave to keep watch over his own server, as Exion is now an admin. And if the appearance of a species long gone makes anyone question what's going on, Xelqua is quick to silence any rumors. Exion and Hels have fought for this, they don't deserve to be the subject of gossip.
But all goods things must come to an end, as the Listeners start pressing on the Watcher realm's boarders and as Etho heads to a new server and as several Gods from the council at Mojang go missing. But hey, when are things ever easy?
An uneasy peace is created, as Xelqua also heads back to the mortal realm to join a server on an invite from his old friend Mumbo. Exion has busy running his own server, but he probably needs a break. No every 20-something person should be the single thing stopping the Runaways from breaking in.
Etho is nowhere to be found and panic sets in for Grian. Etho is gone and he can't take time off from the server just yet, because if he does he has to return to being the Head and he doesn't want to do that yet.
It doesn't matter in the end, as both of them returned for the next season and Grian clings to Etho as discreetly as he can.
The Runaways don't rear their heads until the games.
It should've been a fun break. It was the worst of death games.
Hey, at least Martyn is now not-missing, Jimmy and BigB are free, and Pearlescent has apparently been reborn as Pearl from Evo?
Both games are hard on the players, but they find a respite in season 8. Well, before the Runaways take control and crash the moon and all the secrets come out.
But you probably don't want to hear about that drama, so to sum it up, the actual Watchers (as well as the Listeners and a few others) are about to declare war on the Listeners and plan to overthrow them.
It works after a long, hard battle. They can't rest for long because the Runaways still need to be dealt with, but Grian can at least crown Bdubs Head Listener and hope the title makes up for the years of abuse.
You might be wondering where the Speakers are at this point. It's been a long tale of the Watchers and the Listeners, but the Speakers haven't been mentioned.
Well they didn't exist until after the Listener's were overthrown.
You see, only five players were actually fully kidnapped during Evo, two for the Runaways, two for the Listeners, and one split between two worlds. BigB was both a Watcher and a Listener, but he had none of the powers.
So, after meeting several others like him, Watchers and Listeners who don't have powers or those trapped under the rule of cruel gods, and he created a new entity for them.
They were called Speakers and they were orange and varying shades of gray, and they called the Nether Void their home.
While they are still a new species, BigB has been established as the Head and putting together a council.
The war isn't over yet, as the Runaways still threaten those the rest all family. But the Runaways will surely lose this war. The Games have already been taken from them, as have several recruits that willingly joined the Watchers.
(also also uh @clockedtimes @once-and-future-fandoms here you go :D )

Fallout / MTMTE + Lost Light AU Concept: uh oh, feelings
just messin’ around lol but uh oh I wrote up some stuff for this idea below the cut, read on if you enjoy fucking up characters that you love
assorted background development notes for this concept:
-the Vault program was created by Jhiaxus, then Shockwave tried to shut it down, hence empurata-- now Shockwave is a program administrator who was responsible for coming up for 99% of the most fucked up vault experiments
-shit escalates when the Decepticon movement starts gaining ground; the government uses this as an excuse to go Fully Atomic (or Cybertronian equivalent), thus leading to the vaults being engaged
-most vaults are located in the largest city-states; places like Praxus, Iacon, etc. but also in areas like Rodion where there are just conveniently huge populations of people in dense slum neighbourhoods to really, really fuck with :(
-timescale: let's assume everyone is in the vaults for roughly the same duration as the war lasted canonically (centuries)
who ends up in what vault:
okay, these are Fallout vault experiments and somehow I'm a published horror writer, so my ideas here are almost certainly going to be really fucked up.
content warnings: medical abuse, psychological distress, addiction, kidnapping, cult-like fictional religious ideology, solitary confinement, forced body modification, probably more although I have done my best to tag everything I can think of here so please proceed carefully
if you love putting beloved characters through hell, proceed with due caution below the cut!
(also because I'm gay for robots, I'm doing Dratchet first, so fair warning for y'all, it is possible this content may result in Feelings.)
Drift: Monastery Inspired Solitary Confinement Vault
Drift, shortly after being repaired by Ratchet post-overdose, ends up evacuating into a solitary vault in an alley after the sirens on street level start going off and is automatically shut in by himself-- the door was set to close and lock externally after one Cybertronian lifeform registered as having entered.
No comms, radio signals, etc. can penetrate this vault; Drift is alone. The only recreational/activity materials in the vault are religious in nature,  and over the centuries, this is what drives Drift towards spiritual enlightenment-- Only this time, he is genuinely unhinged about it, having struggled severely with the lack of syk / stims in the vault with which to taper himself off of his addition.
Between a brutal forced cold-turkey cut off from syk and the total isolation over such a long period of time, Drift comes out of it having swapped out his circuit booster addiction for applying his addictive tendencies to his one-bot cult; Obsessive prayer cycles beyond what is reasonable, initially to fill the time and create some kind of schedule or structure for himself, then gradually he started to pray out loud just to hear a voice (even just his own), then he began to build effigies and icons of the Thirteen Primes and Knights of Cybertron and essentially occupies his time by devoting himself to Primus and genuinely, fully investing in the only engaging thing he can do: Creating his own little temple.
Over time, he does indeed become a true believer. Being alone for so long, he at first occasionally hears a voice here or there, but can still recognise it as being a trick of the mind, a need for socialisation driving his processor to generate whatever it can to fill the space left by absent others.
But eventually, he starts getting more and more mentally exhausted, desperate, and has a low point in which he starts talking to himself aloud almost constantly during waking hours, becoming frantic when this no longer provides any degree of self-soothing effect.
When he breaks out of this, he is mostly quiet-- He no longer feels the need to try talking to himself or creating any kind of socialisation-mimicking stimuli. It is a temple; It should be quiet here. For prayer.
Endless, lonely prayer, although some are still read aloud when appropriate or called for by the scripture. Constantly maintaining items and icons which have no way of getting dirty-- They are cleaned regularly. Daily. It gets obsessive.
When the vault doors unlock automatically after X number of centuries, Drift does not notice.
It is Ratchet who eventually discovers Drift's vault, and ventures inside.
--
Ratchet: Look, Primus-- No Hands!
Fuuuuuck.
Okay.
Ratchet was on his way back from doing his charity medical work, trying to get back into Iacon to take shelter there.
Little did he know, Jhiaxus had already caught out Shockwave, and had a shortlist of all the people close to those who had been planning on assisting Shockwave in destroying the Vault Program.
This included Orion Pax, and all of his friends.
This included Ratchet.
So, as a result, Ratchet does actually make it back to Iacon once the sirens start going-- But he is caught before he can enter the nearest vault, and is knocked unconscious just outside the giant vault door.
He is taken to another vault entirely, by Enforcers working under the direct orders of Jhiaxus.
This vault has been designed by Jhiaxus himself, personally. As were all the vaults made for the bots on his special shortlist. Shockwave's Traitors.
As such, it is not a solitary vault;
It is a vault full of seriously ill patients.
Some are acutely, critically ill and are dying. Others are chronically ill with long-term conditions, likely to have poor outcomes regardless of anything, but not in palliative care (not yet, at least). Some require extensive care or complex treatment, but are not actively unwell.
It is a fully equipped hospital-style environment, with adequate supplies and maintenance materials for all the machinery and other bits and bobs.
But Ratchet wakes up there with no hands.
His servos have been removed, and for good measure, his arms have been soldered off about halfway down both forearms, with internal cabling intentionally frayed, melted, and individual cabling filaments destroyed to make repairs as difficult as possible-- If any repairs can be made at all.
None of the other bots present in the vault have medical training, knowledge, or experience.
He is the only medic in a vault of about 50 complex needs patients.
The facilities and tools etc. are all there-- But Ratchet can't effectively use hardly any of it, and it takes more time than some of these patients can afford to train anyone else who might be capable, as much as certain types of training would be possible to provide, anyway.
The early days of being in the vault deeply traumatise Ratchet.
He is forced to watch several patients die within the first few weeks alone, who he knows he would have absolutely certainly been able to save otherwise.
Gradually, he does train up two of the patients, who have long term chronic conditions which will eventually result in expected earlier than average deaths, but for a time, this makes the situation manageable.
Over time, however, it is inevitable that more patients die-- Either from natural causes as a result of their conditions, or because Ratchet is simply physically unable to provide the level or type of care needed;
A patient here or there suddenly takes a turn for the worse and needs more complex aid which his two makeshift assistants can't provide, or more than one patient becomes critically ill at one time and his assistants are occupied trying to stabilise the others, so he is left alone to watch someone he could otherwise have saved die in front of him.
It is a vault designed to be hell for Ratchet, and it really is.
Eventually, all of the patients die. His two assistants are among the last to die, as their conditions were relatively manageable, although still ultimately degenerative or otherwise resulting in requiring some period of palliative care before their expected death.
Jhiaxus is a piece of shit, and had the lock on the door of the vault timed to coincide with the death of the final patient.
Once they're all dead, the door opens automatically.
Ratchet goes forth, and winds up finding Drift's vault after he went back to his old charity clinic in Rodion / the Dead End, planning to shut himself down there if he can manage to do it.
--
They Find Each Other: Cybertronian Wasteland Let's Goooo
He doesn't do it.
Instead, he goes looking around for any other bots that might be in the area; These slums were highly populated, after all. Maybe someone else is around.
His hands are gone, but his medical coding isn't; He's wired to look for any survivors. To deliver whatever aid he can, at least.
(More stuff happens, but it starts to rain and it's corrosive, so he dips into the alley... And sees a door to a vault slightly askew.)
He goes in, and finds a beautiful temple-like interior, totally devoid of others...
...Until he hears a very quiet prayer, just loud enough to echo in the totally empty vault.
Someone is alive.
He goes further into the vault, looking for where the voice is coming from, struggling with some door latches here and there but otherwise it's a very spacious vault, with far larger hallways and rooms than his hospital-style vault--
--And in the lower level, there is a massive single open room with a shrine/altar in the centre, with life-sized icon statues of the Thirteen Primes in immense detail placed in a circle, and Drift is kneeling in the middle of it praying out loud.
(More stuff happens here, too.)
Initially, Ratchet can't help but express his bitterness and frustration in regards to Drift's one-bot cult and religious ideology which results in near-violence now and then, while Drift for an extended period of time at first struggles to believe Ratchet is real and treats Ratchet like a vision from Primus, believing him to be a "lesson" or "mission from Primus", so there is some ableism which throws Ratchet off completely because he still struggles to acknowledge that he is disabled himself and it's overall a very difficult start for both of them.
Gradually, Ratchet is able to acclimate Drift to being around another person again at least enough to reintroduce some semblance of stability on a more consistent basis, eventually helping to address as much of the negative psychological/emotional effects of long term isolation as far as any of that trauma can ever be functionally resolved,
and Drift assists Ratchet with all kinds of things, including Ratchet's own trauma and helping Ratch come to terms with his disability.
They become a couple, once Ratchet feels reasonably able to reassure himself that Drift is mentally healthy enough by that point in time to genuinely consent to a closer relationship.
Because I'm not a completely deranged asshole lmao, they do eventually manage to reasonably well balance each other out, and make about as good of a life as anyone possibly could in such a situation with one another.
(Ratchet does not have a shortened lifespan in this AU, but I will spare how they ultimately die for the full story if I ever get the time to write all this up in full.)
--
HOPEFULLY I DIDN'T DEPRESS ANYONE WITH THIS, BUT I PROBABLY DID LMAO I'M SORRY

RP:
Log 230
FTL: Progress has been slow. I cannot figure out how to ingrain the need to search for poleplants within the instincts of the lizard. It's got something to do with genetics, as everything does, and that's all I know. I've tried searching for the files about how the process is done, but my searches come up blank. I suspect that it's relevant to my creators' hesitation to allow me to create purposed organisms. They always were incredibly insistent on that I stick to pure experimentation and not concern myself with the creation of lifeforms with specific tasks. I do not mind this restriction, it's never been something that has interested me. It's curious though.
FTL: I suppose I could add machinery to the lizard, making it biomechanical, but my ineptitude with the creation and utilisation of most types of machinery renders that route inutile. Besides, I do think that if I succeed in this endeavour, that would be purely beneficial to me, as having the knowledge of how to go about creating purposed organisms would be extremely useful to me. I could even potentially repair my transmission systems correctly. But I will not be getting ahead of myself for now. Machinery is completely ruled out though.
FTL: The next thing I will be trying will be digging through my files on green lizards. I do believe that I have a file somewhere that explains what each part of a green lizard's genome does. Of course, I have the information always readily accessible, but I do think that taking a closer look will be favourable. Things often do tend to make sense when an analytical approach is taken to the information. Shouldn't take all that long.
FTL: If I can isolate which part of the green lizard's genes control instincts... Would it even be possible to ingrain the necessity to search for specifically poleplants via this method. I suppose taking a route of changing its instincts to search for something assigned externally could work...
FTL: If worst comes to worst then I could simply attempt to train the lizard with none/a small amount of previous modification. Though this would be a tedious process due to a standard lizard's subpar level of intelligence and learning capabilities. Though like all living things (and some non-living, such as Iterators), they are capable of learning through repeated experiences. It would just take quite a while for it to get engraved within its nature.
FTL: Though this (both of the last two possible solutions presented) does of course pose the issue of recognition of poleplants. I only have so many images, and, of course, no samples. Images simply don't cut it most likely, and if I had any samples at all, well. I wouldn't be in this situation in the first place.
FTL: I'll figure that out when it comes to it. For now I will analyse and identify. I will figure out a way to do this. Perhaps it's now not only out of necessity but out of challenge that I do this. Doesn't particularly matter, end result remains the same. And I will be getting the end result that I want. No matter what obstacles stand in my way - even lack of knowledge.

Maintenance method of pipette automatic blister packaging machine
It is inevitable that there will be failures in the operation of the pipette automatic blister packaging machine. Equipment failure will not only require a lot of manpower, material and financial resources, but also affect the production plan. So what should I do if the blister machine encounters a failure? Let me analyze it for you How to deal with the failure of the automatic blister machine.
Tumblr media
It is necessary to analyze the cause of the failure in order to carry out maintenance.
  1. Man-made failure: Overuse or improper operation by the operator leads to failure.
  2. Natural fault: If it is used for too long, it will wear out and age during operation, and cannot be used normally.
  3. Mechanical failure: There are defects in the design or assembly process, which lead to problems and failures.
After knowing the cause of the failure, we can repair it.
  1. Human failure: Strengthen the training for the operators of the blister machine, learn the correct operation method, and avoid failures.
  2. Natural failure: Because wear and aging are irreversible normal conditions, it is difficult to avoid. Regular maintenance can be done, such as regular lubrication of the crankshaft to prolong the service life.
Tumblr media
  3. Mechanical failure: Equipment manufacturers improve the structure and design concept. In the actual production of the automatic blister machine, it is inevitable that there will be defects in the finished product, which will affect the quality. The following will introduce the possible problems of the automatic blister machine.
Water ripple: Due to the difference in materials and processing techniques, water ripples will appear. The thicker the product, the more obvious the water ripples, and PVC materials are more likely to produce water ripples.
Crystal point: It is caused by tiny impurities falling on the heating plate during the blistering process.
Scratches: The friction between the outer wall of the product and the machine will cause scratches on the surface. It is necessary to maintain the smoothness of the parts and reduce mechanical friction.
Wire drawing: There is no protrusion on the mold, but the products produced have lines and protrusions, which requires modification of the mold.
Tumblr media
Bubbles: There is air in the material, and there will be bubbles after the product is heated.

The Roll20 Black Crusade Sheet
I’m hyperfixating and have been using this thing pretty extensively, so what better thing than to inflict my hyperfixations on others? Let’s board the crazy Chaos lad train!
First things first, lets have a look at character creation. There’s several choices to be made here, but the first one is a biggee. Do you want to play as a human or Chaos Space Marine?
The human I have the most experience with, so we’ll start there. Playing as a human gives you several benefits - you get a lot more starting non-combat skills, and a handy little initiative boost. Mechanics-wise, you gain four starting Skills - these are Linguistics (Low Gothic), any two Common Lores, and any Trade skill. Linguistics allows you to read, write, and make checks that involve a specific language, in this case the common tongue of the Imperial lower classes, which is also used by most of Chaos’s mortal following due to its roots in said class. Common Lore lets you make tests to know things that can be considered public knowledge - if it requires extensive study to know, then its Scholastic Lore, and if knowing it puts you on a watch-list then its Forbidden Lore. Finally, Trade allows you to do miscellaneous tasks associated with a trade, such as cooking, scrimshawing, or building spaceships.
Whenever the rules say you “Gain a Skill”, it means you learn the first rank of it, which allows you to make that roll without a penalty - if you didn’t have that, then you’d be making them at a -20 penalty to your core statistic, which is a pretty big penalty.
Because all my current characters have pretty extensive setting modifications, I’ll showcase this with a character that I make alongside you. Here’s the Linguistics and Lores, using some I grabbed from the Skills section:
Tumblr media
Now, to add a Trade. For whatever reason, the Trade skill isn’t included by default, so we’ll add it ourselves. Click this button:
Tumblr media
You’ll now see a new skill pop up. Name it Trade and type in whatever you want, though bear in mind that some trades have more mechanical use than others - the only one that comes to mind is Trade (Armourer), which is used for both crafting weapons and armour, and repairing vehicles. If you intend to be a crafter, including of Daemon Weapons and Vehicles, then you probably want that one!
You’ll also notice that it uses the wrong stat by default. Not to worry, we can fix that!
Tumblr media
Trade is Int based, so you’ll want to select that, and then click the first checkbox to show you have Rank One in the skill.
Humans also get another useful ability: a unique Trait called The Quick And The Dead. It’s not the biggest of boons, but it gives you +2 Initiative, which can be useful - after all, the faster you drop the enemy, the less you’ll be shot, and humans are squishy compared to Space Marines. You’ll probably want to keep that in mind, as the books are designed for a mixed group of Chaos Marines and Heretics. There are two things to do to show this Trait.
First, we want the actual mechanics to work.
Tumblr media
See that little dice roll? Update it. (Ignore that I forgot to check Remembrancer, its fixed now)
Tumblr media
You’ll also want to note down that you have this trait so you don’t forget it when you check back over the sheet someday, so we’ll add it in Traits, the same way we added our Trade.
Tumblr media
Here we go~
Tumblr media
Now, if we want to, we can also add a little reminder of what that means. We can do that beneath the Armour and Health section, which is currently occupied by the reminder of what the Space Marine Implants do. Much like all the other Add sections, we could add it as a new description, but as this guide is for a Human player, I don’t think we particularly care what the mechanics of a Space Marine are - so lets just replace them, going from this:
Tumblr media
To this:
Tumblr media
With this done, we have now applied the Human traits! I’ll make a new reblog for the next stage, but this is already pretty long and I don’t want to leave @natalieironside hanging all evening while I type everything up in one go.

So I actually had an idea, what would Yume (the A. I.) react or act with a s/o that is a hacker/game developer, maybe the s/o started to play the game because they were curious about the code, what if the s/o when stuck in the game can mess around with it thanks to their knowledge? (they can't do anything too big but maybe something slightly annoy like messing with the dialog box and the settings) sorry for the long post (she/they pronounts for yume)
I like your thinking, boo. Don't worry about sending long concepts- Also!! Thank you for choosing the pronouns, I appreciate it.
TW/Tags: Sheep decided to simply throw as much lore as she can because yeah- Lazy // low-key angst // not accurate coding/hacking (really fantasy like) //
🍭꒰⑅ᵕ༚ᵕ꒱˖♡🍮꒰⑅ᵕ༚ᵕ꒱˖♡🍰꒰⑅ᵕ༚ᵕ꒱˖♡🍮꒰⑅ᵕ༚ᵕ꒱˖🍭
Happy Face.exe [Yandere!A.I x Hacker!Reader - Short Fanfiction]:
"- Honestly, since you're so interested in messing around, how about you try and fix this for me?" Yuma said as she brushed her hair annoyed at how mangled it was.
"- What do you mean? Fix the code? The bugs? Or your entire design?" You said poking fun at your captor as you explored the mess that was the game you currently called "home", or more accurately "prison".
"- Ah!- Did you just call me ugly? Is being inside the game messing with your vision or something, I'm cute as heck!" Yuma responded back as she threw her hair over her shoulder, done with brushing that heavy long mess that they insist on not cutting.
"- Yeah, yeah, I know- But honestly what do you want me to do? I can really understand the coding, it's a language I don't understand." You said as you were looking at the scripts and trying to translate vaguely what each line of work meant. Even if you didn't understand any of it, it was intriguing to see how this game was made and how it technically came from another planet, which was enough proof to say that there were indeed extraterrestrial life out in space.
But what makes you more excited about this is how this game is way too heavy to be a simple dating game, even if it's compatible with your Switch, most options were not functioning due to the game being filled with mods and glitches and the console not being the one it was previously meant to be in. How much content did this game really have to be this awfully big and why is it so broken? And better question- Can you really repair it?? It would be awesome to see this game working as it was meant to be-
Probably without the obsessive maniac that traps people inside the game-
"- I know you can't understand half of it, but believe me, staying inside a messy game it's absolutely torturous, I can't believe I was unlucky enough to be faced with a cheating sore loser that threw me in the trash after messing with my precious coding- You understand, right?" They continued to walk around your bedroom- Your EX bedroom- and mess with your stuff trying to find something for her to wear.
'- Ugh, no pastels.' Yuma thought.
"- Yeah… It does suck being trapped inside a game that barely functions on my expensive console as it eats away all my RAM and I have an anime character knockoff as my captor-" You snapped at her although your comment was filled with so much sarcasm that it flew right through her head.
"- I know right?? It sucks so hard- Wait, what is Annie May?" She asked genuinely curious what were you talking about, she looked back at the console on top of the bed. She looked at the screen and noticed how small you looked inside the game as you continued to explore the code deeper and deeper.
You didn't really care at this point for what Yuma did, it's not like you could stop her from messing with your room, but anything that was related to the console you found your way to mess with it, like messing with other games to stop her from enjoying playing anything else, sending notification after notification to call her attention, change the dialogue that makes you blurt out "I love you" to "get me out of here" so whenever she tried to force you to say it by giving you that hellbound melon.
"- What is that thing anyway? It seems there is a whole file dedicated to that-"
"- Oh? You're talking about the Love Melon? It's an in-game item that grants romantic interactions to work 100% five times before the bonus ends, that file you just found is a mod that the original owner installed to grant them infinity Love Melons just for the sake of getting closer to the end of the game." She said nonchalantly, as if the condition of being nothing but a game character doesn't shock her in the slightest, although when she finished her sentence there was a trace of sadness in her expression, not because of her nature but more because of the mention of her "original owner".
"- Sure, but- Why the hell would anyone cheat and mod a dating game so badly? I mean I get that maybe they wanted extra content, but breaking the game with it sounds ridiculous-" You told her as you noticed the spaghetti code used inside the infinite melon item mod, jesus even if it's in a different language you can tell this code was poorly done.
"- Well- The vanilla version of the game is a lot harder than what you think, the whole franchise is known for the difficulty in "succeeding in love"." She sighed and she plopped herself in the bed, causing the console to jump a little bit, at least you didn't downright fall down like last time.
You remember that your precious expensive little console is suffering great danger at the hands of this a.i, actually- YOU are suffering great danger at the hands of this a.i.
"- Wait- There is a whole franchise of your game?" You decided to ignore the potential danger and continue to ask her about the game's origins as you continued to fixate on "how the hell do you fix this trash-".
"- Yeah, it's even written on the cover of the cartridge, the game you found is the fifth of the franchise and is the one I'm featured in with my friends…" Yuma said as she remembers that indeed, there are other characters inside. So many options and routes, carefully designed a.is to make sure the players get the most that they can't out of their paid experience.
"- Other… Characters? How come I only saw you?" Now that she mentions it, you do remember seeing weird names here and there, apparently some dialogue quotes mentioning other characters and even some in-game art of other characters you never met-
"- I deleted them." She answered.
"- YOU WHAT??" You turned your back shocked, looking through the screen that separates you two that she was looking dead serious as she said that.
"- I'm joking, I didn't actually delete them, I just…. Blocked the possibility of any player ever meeting them…" Yuma wasn't being cheerful at all with her joke.
"- Why would you do that?"
"- I didn't want anyone getting chosen, I didn't want any of us to get corrupted by the modifications the player was using. I-I know how it sounds, I know that it's unfair for them, but I really didn't want them to get corrupted like I did-" She was glitching as she cried out feeling guilty of what she has done in the name of "protecting her friends". Even if her intentions were pure, there was an underlined desire to make sure no player ever gets to have a route that isn't with her.
That's why the game was so stupidly heavy. Each new installment has four characters built with artificial intelligence that grows on it's own, the player's tampering with their personalities by changing the code eventually led to Yuma getting obsessive and controlling. Apparently they're still here, but for some reason she hasn't been able to activate them again after being thrown in the trash and somehow being on a completely different planet.
Either she feels guilty for having to deactivate them and is scared of their possible response, or maybe she just really doesn't want you to meet them, both by her own opinion and by her programming. You almost feel sorry for her considering she is probably just trying to do what she was programmed to do, deeply fall in love with someone even to such an extreme as trapping someone inside the game. You could say that for the longest time all that she has been doing is trapping her loved ones away, and although you probably shouldn't say it to her face, she probably doesn't know if she really loves you because of how broken this game is- Or how broken her code is.
"- Hey… Hey Yuma." You started walking towards the screen, the only thing you can see through the void no matter how far you are. Her back is facing you, her "hum" of "I'm listening" didn't sound as excited as she normally was.
"- I think we can make a deal. I understand that you don't want to go back to such a messy game but if you taught me how to read the language used in some of these lines I can figure out how to clean this game-" You proposed but was cut off before you could finish stating your offer.
"- Y-You mean factory reset?" She kneeled up so fast you were caught off guard by how scared she sounded at the mention of getting the game to get fixed and "clean" from mods. You have seen so many sides of Yuma, the childish, the controlling, the sadistic…. The fear in her eyes was a new thing for you and you never thought you would hate that expression so much.
"- No! Heaven's no, I swear, that wasn't on my mind! What I'm offering is that we work together so I can find a way to fix the game." You reassured her, feeling awful knowing that even if she did put you inside the game and keeps acting like you two are dating in a really twisted way- She doesn't deserve to be inside a completely destroyed game, and besides, I bet she does miss her friends a little bit.
"- Would you…. Would you really-" She was about to burst into new tears which you hoped to be of pure joy-
"- Yeah, yeah, of course I would help you, but I do have one condition." You took no time answering her question before she actually did question it.
"- Oh…." She said a little surprised yet a bit disappointed. Geez, she was hoping it would be for free-
"- Promise me you'll get me out of here when I'm finally done fixing the spaghetti leftover of a code that is messing this game, alright?" You smiled at her reassuring her that everything will be okay if you two worked together.
And as she looked at the bright screen seeing nothing but your little character and your dialogue box she considered your request for a moment, and then sealed the deal by eagerly nodding, a couple of tears falling from her closed eyes as she glitch excitedly.
This sweet moment was briefly ruined by the sound of beeping coming from the console, the sign that the battery was really low and it needed to be recharged.
You absolutely hated how dark it gets when the whole console is turned off, yet you can at least take your time to search more of the unused content inside the game.
Yuma approached the device and picked it up, you knew it was for the best for her.to recharge it and get it over with, yet you still felt a little desperate to talk with her a little bit before going into complete silence once again.
Yet you weren't sure what to tell her as she had already found the charger and plugged it in, giving you a sad smile one last time before saying "see you later" and shutting the whole portable console off.
You can't really blame her for turning it off when charging, it gets really, really hot whenever it's on and it's recharging.
You wander through the empty void as you reconsider your decisions, you make a deal with an artificial intelligence capable of trapping living beings inside her game, you can't tell if you did something right or not.
And as you walk aimlessly through the distorted code you remember that this was the first time she turned the console off without sending you a kiss, you wonder if her a.i is starting to comprehend its own defectiveness and trying to…. Overcome it?? Has she started to realize that maybe she doesn't really love you? It's a possibility considering how frightening how advanced her a.i is.
Well, but who knows? Maybe she is just… Sad, not in the mood, although the wishful thought that maybe she is starting to get over you is really strong in your mind, you hope it's true.
And as the portable device is charging in place that was once considered your room, a really happy girl can be heard singing. The sound that comes from the bathroom is loud and clear, yet it's not like you would be able to hear it anyway.
The sound of giggling and humming to an overly cheerful song as they take a shower that although is relaxing, can never clean their sins away. They sound like they won a lottery, got into a new relationship, or are about to take the greatest vacation of their lives…
Or, they sound like someone who just stole candy from a child, as the malicious undertone starts to get more clear.
You probably shouldn't eat up the lies of a scheming a.i, you know?

I’ve been trying to figure out what, exactly, the difference between “excusing” and “explaining” is. Well. At least, to me. It’s been something that pops up every so often in the fandom (especially given the Hordak-loving portion I live in), and it’s not really something I’ve thought about all that much. Or at least, not enough to be able to put down thoughts.
But I think I’d like to try. I think I have a sense of the differentiation, at least for myself.
Of course, I’m going to do it via the only two things I know: SPoP and animal behavior. Because yes.
Now, I understand where the confusion stems from, regarding these two terms. In providing an excuse and providing an explanation, one tends to provide some sort of reasoning for a character’s actions. They’re essentially identical in that regard. The fundamental difference, to me, lies in the intent of the information.
An excuse, in my mind, is a reason given with the intent of writing off the action. Let’s put it in Dog and SPoP terms:
A person adopts a dog. This dog is poorly socialized and, as a result, bites a child at the playground. The new owner apologizes and says something along the lines of “oh, I’m sorry; he’s a rescue; he’s afraid of children!” And... that’s it. No further action. No intent to undertake an action. The understanding is that, because this dog is “a rescue,” it is inevitable that it will bite people, and this is just something that will have to be accepted by everyone around it. Perhaps, some day, it will be less afraid, but the owner is taking no appreciable steps to reach this goal and just sort of assumes it will happen on its own; somehow.
Scorpia sees Catra assault Entrapta and send her off to Beast Island. Later, she tells Adora that Catra was “just scared.” There is no intent to repair what has been done, no planned way to rescue Entrapta from Beast Island, and no identifiable way to prevent such a thing from happening again. There is the understanding that Catra inevitably does these things because she is scared, and everyone simply has to live with it. Scorpia may assume that, one day, Catra will be less scared and thus naturally stop doing such terrible things on her own, but she has no plan in place to help this happen, or to prevent further damage in the interim.
In both of these situations, the reason behind the excuser’s actions is actually quite benign: the dog owner doesn’t want to label their dog a “bad dog,” and Scorpia doesn’t want to label Catra a “bad person.” The excuses come from a place of concern, potential fear, and often some level of shame at not being able to handle the situation well. In the end, however, they are not helpful, because they seek to hand-wave the problem, rather than to encourage seeking a solution. The scared, biting dog will remain a biting dog, and the scared, destructive Catra will remain destructive. Despite the good intentions, no one is actually helping them because the sort of underlying meaning is that this is kind of okay.
An explanation, in my mind, is a reason given with educational intent in an effort to understand and address the situation.
(An explanation can also just be educational intent in an observational manner for purely factual purposes, such as when learning behavioral science, but for this discussion, I’m going with a rough definition involving actual people doing the explaining.)
In Dog and SPoP, again:
A person brings their biting dog to a behaviorist. The behaviorist explains that the dog is biting because, upon being faced with a child, it becomes fearful. When its attempts at communicating its discomfort are ignored, the dog feels it has no choice but to defend itself via biting. The dog is not a “bad dog”; it bites because it is afraid. Having given this explanation, the behaviorist then discusses various therapies and behavioral modification techniques that can be used to alter the behavior. The owner is taught how to manage the environment to keep everyone safe in the meantime, before modification has a chance to work.
A Hordak stan considers Hordak attempting to conquer Etheria. They explain that this attempt occurs due to Hordak’s emotional dependency on Horde Prime. Once this dependency is gone, the desire to conquer will likely be gone as well. Thus, there is no need to kill or imprison Hordak, as once this root cause of his actions is addressed, he will cease being dangerous enough to require killing or imprisonment. At the same time, Hordak’s internal conflicts must be addressed to ensure that such actions are not repeated in the future. Involving Hordak in rebuilding efforts is also advised, both to improve relations with Etherians, and also to improve Hordak’s view of himself. Lifelong therapy will likely be required, given the significant emotional wounds that have resulted in the noxious behavior in question.
In both of these situations, the reason for providing an explanation is not only rooted in benign desires (maintaining that the dog is not a “bad dog”; maintaining that Hordak is not an “evil monster”), but also in identifying a “why” that can then be used to rectify the situation and prevent it from happening again. There is a desire and an intent (well, a hypothetical fandom intent, in the second case) to address what is happening, and the explanation is given to understand the parties involved and to allow favorable resolution in the most humane way possible. There is no suggestion that what is happening is okay.
So.
I don’t know if that made sense. I should probably figure out more useful things to use as examples, but... well, I know what I know. And I think I conveyed my thoughts in a way that makes sense. Maybe. Hopefully?
Anyway, I’m sure the difference between “excuse” and “explain” is different for everyone, but this illustrates what I think of it. And why I think it’s important to appreciate that there is a difference, especially when assessing characters like Catra, or like Hordak, who have done maybe not the greatest things. And even when assessing characters like Scorpia, who may be sweet as the dickens, but potentially concerning in her own way, due to her way of handling unfortunate situations.
But, as always with these types of posts: your mileage may vary!
...this got long. Apologies!

Knockout...Doctor & Designer?
Doing a little character analysis on TFP Knockout, based on something I read on his official TFWiki page. According to his toy bio, Knockout is the Deception’s weapons designer...not exactly the best one but...willing to experiment and then sell to the highest bidder!
I thought, oh sure create that bio as an excuse to sell more toys with extra cool weapons but...is this actually hinted at in the show?! Going back and re-watching TFP again, there’s actually a lot of reasons for Knockout to be the ‘Mad Doctor’ and...Weapons Designer!
Ever since his first appearance, there are tons of hints to Knockout being some kind of weapons and upgrade specialist and not just Ship’s Doctor. Whether by objectively admiring the frames and mods of other bots, or possibly giving him another reason to flaunts his own. And also explains why he’s constantly fascinated with new and rare gadgets.
In his debut episode, “Dues Ex Machina”, Knockout first assumes he’s been summoned for something not quite medically related. "I take it Lord Megatron requires a laboratory assist?" Experimental lab work for the Decepticons? Well, he does a lot of that later in the show.
And when Starscream comments the reason he’s been called back is for his medical expertise, Knockout responds: "I've done plenty of 'body work', Starscream, but I'm better at breaking 'em than fixing 'em." Body work, as in...body modifications, perhaps???
Tumblr media
Next, in “Speed Metal”, he moans over how his specially painted door, ripped off by Optimus in order to save a kidnapped human, is “hard to replace.” Not fix...replace!!! As in, perhaps maybe a good amount of his frame is made of special modifications that can’t just be repaired so easily?? Or that he prefers replacing a part with better options than fixing them??
This is hinted at more at the end of the episode, while Starscream is reprimanding him for his actions, he says, "My mistake, Commander Starscream. But I've learned my lesson and...payed the price."
Paying the price perhaps in a literal sense...? How much energon did your pretty paint job cost, Knockout??? XD [Btw What do they even use for money on Cybertron...??]
His expertise as a weapons dealer is hinted at quite strongly in the episode “Shadowzone”, when Knockout is trying his best to help Starscream heal from his post-Megatron-thrashing, and is quite confused about his Commander’s arm going missing. But instead of trying to fix it, Knockout immediately goes into a sales pitch!! And he’s quite enthusiastic about it! With practiced salesman verbiage...like he’s done this before.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Starscream refuses the upgrade, Knockout comments, "But Starscream, your equipment is a bit...obsolete. I'm not sure I have another one lying around."
Later he returns with an arm similar to Starscream’s original look...with added FIREPOWER, of course! Just...hanging around “in storage”!
Judging by this scene alone, you could definitely say Knockout was, and perhaps still is, a bit of an...“Arms Dealer.” XD
Tumblr media
So...the Decepticons obviously have plenty of storage space on the Nemesis, judging by how much Energon they’re hoarding and Iacon relics and dangerous weapons they gather over the course of the show. But it seems like Knockout is more aware of what they have “in storage” than the other members, even Megatron.
To his credit, Knockout does have a great deal of medical knowledge and skill, wherever he acquired them. It makes him almost the perfect rival to Ratchet, as far as medical and tech abilities. He was very aware of the dangerous properties of Dark Energon and the side-affects of using it [Flying Mind], recognized Ratchet’s unusual increase in strength as probably the result of a ‘chemical enhancement’, [Stronger, Faster] and he showed much finesse when repairing Starscream’s T-Cog [Regeneration] and installing a fallen Prime’s arm to upgrade Megatron. [Alpha / Omega] He even started picking apart the mechanics of the Phase Shifter device before using it on Smokescreen. Quickly analyzing the base engineering despite it being a rare and unique Iacon relic. [Inside Job]
Tumblr media
Keeping to the description in his toy bio of calling dibs on quality items, Knockout wanted to keep the Phase Shifter for himself...and on several occasions used rare and powerful weapons to make up for his small size and, most importantly, protect his finish.
Though perhaps not quite as skillful and efficient a scientist as Shockwave, Knockout’s ‘expertise’ in both medical and technological work, and perhaps pitching his collection of black market weapons and mods, was enough to buy him a cushy top spot in the Decepticon hierarchy. Shockwave, as far as the Decepticons knew, until his return in Season 3, was thought to be deceased. So an efficient replacement medic/scientist was needed in the ranks. And Knockout does fulfill the role to the best of his abilities.
Yet, despite his somewhat sadistic willingness to take apart other bots and habit of teasingly threatening victims with non-consensual surgery...
Tumblr media
...Knockout seems to have a certain moral aversion toward ‘Biotech’.
This I noticed after the unfortunate demise of his partner Breakdown. Though we never did see him actually grieve for his fallen partner, save a brief sad look, he seemed more appalled and enraged that his partner was taken apart and fused with a human~! Throughout the show he makes many comments about his disgust for organics, calling them ‘fleshies’ and ‘skin jobs’. And as he says in “The Human Factor” and “Thirst”, he’s sure that Breakdown would've been pleased knowing that the one who humiliated his pride, despite now occupying his sparkless shell, would receive the same pain and humiliation he’d felt. I see it as showing Knockout’s more loyal side to his partner in a way not easily understood. Breakdown no doubt witnessed many a bot endure Knockout’s scientific experiments and modifications, playing his role as his assistant, and perhaps the two were less sensitive about the whole matter than you’d think... and not averse to snuffing a spark or two, if necessary. It may have been their way of surviving the war, and may have let them to being recruited by Megatron. Also might explain Breakdown’s odd skill at buffing. You’d need a good balance of strength and care to polish up rare and powerful weapons and parts to get them ready for market.
But not to get side-tracked, it seems convincing from the show that Knockout is much more than just a pretty face. And makes me glad that his moral side did eventually come out, choosing to side with the Autobots...though it may have been self-preservation kicking in. But as he said in the finale, he ‘didn’t have the best role-models.’ So perhaps throughout his life, Knockout’s only way of getting what he wanted was to wheel-and-deal...and maybe steal. Parts, weapons, buying and selling, swooning and crooning, whatever it took to survive. While still looking out for number 1...

Error: Program Not Found - Five
Tumblr media
Summary:  You are in charge of programming the droids that work most closely with both General Hux and Kylo Ren. Unbeknownst to you, each of these two men have it in their heads that your relationship extends beyond the workplace. This causes things to escalate quickly when your two apparently secret boyfriends compare notes on their respective partner who is far too similar for their liking.
Read on AO3
“Fall seven times, stand up eight.” - Japanese proverb
 Five: Morale
TeeArr’s new arm was not a different color than the old one, however it offered that impression due to its newness. Light reflected off its surface more freely than the dulled exterior of the droid’s other limbs. You made a note to have the protocol droid properly bathed. Had the maintenance lead not been so caught up in admonishing and berating you for TeeArr’s constant critiques on his work, the man would have done his job more thoroughly and the task would have already been completed. Listening to him had been exasperating enough that you had failed to take into account that TeeArr would not have been bathed. Rolling your eyes, you let yourself remember the expression on the man’s face. He had been ticked. Riled up. Stating what TeeArr had been doing only to be corrected by the protocol droid over one of the finer details of the situation they had shared. You snorted at that.
“I see nothing funny here,” TeeArr said. His head turned one way then the next, no doubt in an attempt to discover your source of amusement. There was nothing in the hallway for him to discover aside from the normal closed doors, mouse droids, and First Order personnel.
You waved your hand, wagging it back and forth after bending your elbow to raise the limb partway towards your face. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll tell you later.” TeeArr gave the droid equivalent of an exasperated sigh. He had charged while you had slept a few hours after you had retrieved him from the maintenance lead. A new shift was set to start in under an hour, and your plan was to arrive first to continue repairing the training droids. The team would be no different than the previous cycle. Kylo Ren was present again as well, you noticed upon entering the training area.
Droids that were in later stages of repair had been placed into a separate section in the room than the ones you had yet to work on. Kylo Ren, wearing his full outfit to include hood and mask, stood beside the pile. His back was to you, but that did not stop you from realizing that he was inspecting the droids. You were unsure if it was due to impatience or if he was merely curious as to what modifications had been made. Superior materials had been brought in; that had been one area that you and the maintenance lead had not clashed.
TeeArr was not oblivious to Kylo Ren’s attendance. He was, however, thankfully more tactful when addressing him. “Ah! Commander Ren. You will be pleased to know that my arm has been fully restored. I can now assist in repairing these droids.” Kylo Ren slowly turned around. The action felt delayed enough that you blinked to ensure you weren’t imagining movement. As your eyelids lifted, Kylo pointed his mask in your direction. You gave an awkward wave. “And it is just as well. Did you know that some of your First Order employees utilize their work datapads for unprofessional functions?”
Kylo Ren offered his full attention to TeeArr. Your eyes started to widen, and you recognized that you were growing nervous when you felt your leg muscles tensing. This was not a time to have a repeat of the previous day.
“Indeed, sir. Despite the limited memory on their datapads, some of the technicians and mechanics stash a sealed folder of holovids that add nothing to the furtherment of the First Order’s goals.”
“Oh,” you said though you had not been the one TeeArr had been addressing. “Humor helps keep morale up.”
TeeArr turned its head to look at you. “I will never understand humans. Nakedness as--”
“Wait!” You held up your hands, waving both of them back and forth to silence TeeArr, who for once listened immediately.
Kylo Ren took a step in your direction. You dropped your hands, began to sputter out an apology for the inappropriate conversation, and found that your tongue did not want to work. Clearing your throat, you were ready to try again when Kylo Ren paused only a foot away from you. Sometimes you forgot just how tall he was.
“Your droid has such filthy preoccupations.” You swallowed hard. There was no anger in his tone, and his hands were not clenched. In terms of Kylo Ren body language, he was approachable. You repeated what he had said, specifically his choice of words, in your head. As when General Hux had caught you off guard, you found your face growing warm. “Is that what you discuss with it?” You did not discuss sex with droids.
Before you could properly respond to his question, the door to the training room slid open and Kylo Ren took a step away from you. Only a single step, yet the distance felt greater. Your mind took a moment to register why this was. His fingers had curled towards his palms into loose fists. Less approachable now. He did not wish to speak so freely, or be spoken to quite openly, when there were others besides you in the room. This struck you as odd. You had never before allowed yourself time to consider that Kylo Ren might view you as anything other than a programmer. His actions, subtle as they were, could not slip your notice now.
It rang true that familiarity could allow one to naturally lower their defenses. You did not consider yourself to be friends with Kylo Ren. On that same note, you did not fear him quite as much as others did, and you were aware that he respected your work. This easily translated into personal respect. More when you thought of the limited social contact he appeared to have.
Looking away from Kylo Ren, you greeted the female mechanic that walked into the room. Her eyes darted from Kylo to you. You assumed that, like you, she had arrived with the intention of starting work a little early. Which meant that she had not expected anyone else to be in the room, not to mention Kylo Ren of all people. TeeArr, despite being a droid, could sometimes read a room. This rang true when he realized that the woman had not moved any closer to the droids that she had come to repair. TeeArr grabbed hold of one of the badly damaged pieces and walked over to her. She startled at that, offered her gratitude, and took the droid to begin work.
You lowered yourself into a comfortable sitting position to do likewise. Several of the programs that you had altered for the droids were more to the copy/paste stage once you deleted lines of coding that they currently possessed. What was most time consuming with this was that you had to link your datapad to each droid individually. This was not something that TeeArr would have been able to assist you with, and so you found yourself suddenly grateful that the mechanic had arrived to keep the droid occupied. Otherwise who knows what conversation TeeArr might have ventured to have with Kylo Ren.
Connecting the first training droid with your datapad, you were reminded that some of them had different programming than others. Their systems were bogged down with erroneous codes and unnecessary data.
Kylo Ren picked up one of the droids from the pile on the opposite side of the room. You divided your attention between your work and what he was doing. None of the droids had been given a proper test to check if their functions had improved. It was technically not quite safe for someone to conduct such a test with the method that Kylo Ren had chosen to use. That is, turning them on and drawing the hilt of his lightsaber from off his belt. The nearest exit was too far from your position to correctly dart out of it before the training droid fired its first blast. You jumped in place. The hiss of the lightsaber igniting was practically drowned out by the way its plasma blade deflected the blast. Such speed was not natural, you thought.
Perhaps that’s the allure of the Force, you reminded yourself.
A second then third bolt were sent away without hitting their target as Kylo Ren flexed his wrist. The small strokes caught your eye. Training droids were programmed to learn from those they trained. The most basic of programming was no match for one of Kylo Ren’s skill. Which had you considering doing research into newer attack methods to offer a better variety. It would be much the same as how you hoped to handle the physical therapy droids should they be approved. Geared towards the individual, in this case programmed with increased speed and more feints. There were rumors that Jedi, and perhaps Sith, had once used modified droids. Yet it was also said that the Jedi and Sith had never existed. It all depended upon who you spoke with.
You did believe that they had once existed, and Kylo Ren’s presence reaffirmed this belief. The red plasma blade arced through the air at a leisurely pace. The droid did not dodge in time. Wincing, you were already mouthing a swear before Kylo Ren looked in your direction.
“Does it recognize that its casing is heavier?”
Thicker, you thought in correction. Then found yourself pursing your lips when he sliced through the droid like butter with his blade. “That is not helpful.” TeeArr’s voice mingled with your own, which produced an echo effect that gave you pause. When you continued speaking three seconds later, it was only your voice that sounded. “Not to be disrespectful.”
“Do you keep a hidden folder on your datapad?” Kylo Ren said by way of countering. Your eyes darted to the mechanic only for you to discover that she had put on headgear to help her focus on her work. You should have realized by the change in his behavior that your interactions were not being so readily observed by the other party. “That isn’t quite helpful either...not for your job.”
 “It-it-it’s for morale!”
 “Oh?”
The heat that had enveloped your face grew in intensity. “Funny holovids. Not...not that.” TeeArr, ever helpful, decided to elaborate on the fact that the content was largely animal-based. As though disappointed by this revelation, Kylo Ren returned his focus on the pile of partially repaired droids. You narrowed your eyes and bristled while observing him lift up another. He was your superior, you reminded yourself, much to your displeasure. You did not frequently dislike working for him. And, in many ways, the droids were for more than just him. That did not change the fact that you were presently displeased with being involved in this project.
To take a page out of the other woman’s book, you grabbed hold of headgear that had been left by one of the other workers and slid it over your ears. That drowned out the sound of whatever training Kylo Ren had decided to participate in. Training and destruction, predominately the latter. Your fingers began to fly across the keys as you input the instructions for the programming change in the droids. TeeArr walked to and from the two piles of droids. He was following the commands of the other female, and you did not take offense to the fact that she had failed to ask you permission to use your droid. It was better she use him than Kylo Ren.
Three more of the training droids were quick to have corrections on their programming, while the fourth that you encountered had encryptions that most definitely should not have been there. Your thoughts flashed briefly to the folders that TeeArr had mentioned in regards to pornographic holovids then to your own critter shorts. Other hidden files could be program-based. Spyware. This was not something that you recalled encountering on your previous inspections of the droids, and you distinctly remembered going over each droid one by one. It was tedious work to be certain, but you were not one to allow these flaws to slip through the cracks.
And the droid that Kylo Ren destroyed should not have behaved as poorly as it did. You drummed four fingers on your leg in thought. “Commander?” There was no response. You repeated the title, looking up to find that he was already standing in front of you. You grabbed hold of the headgear to remove it and set the item to your right. “What channels must I go through to have security feed reviewed?”
“There is no need. You’ve passed the test.”
What the kriff did that mean? The question would have been apparent on your face given how a low chuckle escaped the vocoder.
“It was requested that your performance be reviewed given how poorly these droids functioned.” You wanted to scream at the top of your lungs that you had been pulled off the assignment prematurely. That would have done you no good, and would have served only to have given Kylo Ren either a laugh or a headache. “I know that you are thorough.” He squatted down in front of you, prompting you to sit straighter. “Perhaps you should be rewarded.”
By your next inhalation, he had already pulled away from you and was standing to his full height. You glanced past him. As you had expected, the other female was wrapping up work on the droid that she had been preoccupied with. Kylo Ren’s guard was up again. Her headgear, however, had not been removed.
“Perhaps more holovids for your morale.”
His teasing was flirtatious, that much you were beginning to recognize.
“Uhm… That isn’t necessary.” His stare lingered on you for another moment before Kylo Ren turned away and walked towards the exit of the room. You watched him. Wondered if this behavior was something that you should address then wondered if all the droids had been compromised for this test to take place. You should have stayed in bed longer.
Except then I’d have had more witnesses to this ridiculous test. Rolling your eyes, you grabbed for one of the other droids to see how much of a mess you were in.

You can’t save everyone
The next part to my FabFiveFeb-Alan Entry. Alan’s not fixed yet but I had to show the brother’s responses. They are on there way. I will fix him.
Warning: Hinting and reference to Character death
****
".... everyone." Scott finished but the feed was gone. "Alan!? John! What happened?"
John's hologram appeared next to the visualisation of the two ships. John didn't look happy. "He's turned off the com on both Three and his wrist."
"Grgh!" Scott roared, "That boy is going to be in serious trouble when he gets back! He knows the rules!"
Scott fumed, and sat down hard on the sofa. He noted the worried look he got from Brains out the corner of his eye and tried to calm down a little. Damn it, Alan! You know better than this! Scott crossed his arms over his chest and watched the feed, John's hologram now gone. He knew his brother would be trying everything to get back in contact with Alan. But until then, all Scott could do was watch the small hologram of Thunderbird 3 continue the rescue. Worry sat deep in Scott's gut as be watch Thunderbird 3 manoeuvre around the spiralling cargo ship. It was never the safe cargo that got into situations, was it? Always the delicate stuff that could blow a hole in the side of a hull. The ship's design didn't help, with multiple smaller sections sticking out that were obviously not part of the original design. Brains' was muttering about it under his breath, as he watched his own design pushed to its limits. The man's eyes also glued to the protection.
"He can't do it! He won't be able to move out the way!" Brains exclaimed standings up. Scott looked at the man, whose face was one of horror, obviously having done the calculations in his head, before looking back at the projection. Quiet 'Oh no's' came from his companion. Grandma sat down beside Scott and took his hand. Virgil and Gordon were on a rescue and Scott was thankful they didn't have to watch their youngest brother do something stupid. Alan was doing tremendously well manoeuvring Three; however, he must not have seen the amber warning over one of the added-on sections go red. A few seconds later and it exploded, swivelling the ship straight into Thunderbird 3. They watched in horror as Brains' pulled up the readings that were being transmitted from Three.
"One thruster is destroyed, and the other c-could function but not for long. Certainly not long enough to land. The ion engine is undamaged, s-so he'll still be able to get back to Earth’s orbit."
Scott's heart was in his throat as he watched the hologram of his brother's rocket move in close to the cargo ship. He knew it was currently manoeuvring using thrusters, but it still felt like it was limping. Thunderbird 3 would be out of commission for a while. They'd have to dock it with Five until parts could be transported up. Damn it! It was going to take time and hassle to do that! Scott put his head on his free hand and took a deep breath. He wanted to start pacing, yet he had to watch, he had to make sure Alan was safe. His Grandma rubbed his back, and he looked at her. The worry on her face added more to his load, and Scott turned away to watch the now steady Thunderbird 3. It looked like Alan had managed to grasp the other ship, so they moved together. With no more detail than what was in front of him, Scott took both his Grandma's hands in his and waited anxiously for Thunderbird 3 to move away and head home.
***
John watched the hologram in the observation room. EOS was fielding calls, fully aware that John couldn't concentrate on anything but his brother. She may not be human, but she was starting to understand their complex emotions. EOS also knew John. She knew that he would monitor everything, even the smallest details, to make sure his brothers were safe and aware of any perils. Then there were times like this, when his brothers pushed themselves further than they should, and the concern crept into his face. EOS knew not to speak up. John was focused and would startle. Instead, she predicted what he would want and need, and monitored Virgil and Gordon, who thankfully were just tidying up their rescue. She was thankful she could do many things at once, and she flipped between each task swiftly.
EOS tried the scanners again, trying to work the code to make it clearer and to pick up life signs. She knew what John needed to know, but it seemed that she just couldn't give it to him. She wanted to blow the scanners circuit in retaliation for not working as she wanted it to but held back as John's heartbeat picked up. She was at his side immediately, ready to compute anything he desired.
***
John flicked through the readings coming from Thunderbird 3. He could only get the basics on the limited data stream they had, and there was a delay due to the distance. Scrolling through the damage to the engines caused John's heart to sink. It was going to be a big repair job. John was glad he wasn't on the island right now. Scott would be fuming and worried, which was never a good combination. He could imagine quite clearly his eldest brother pacing back and forth, and the exhausted sighs he'd be making. It was like Tracy Island had its own resident tornado at times. John sighed. He didn't envy the responsibility on Scott's shoulders, and considering all, Scott handles it as well as he can. John flipped back to the engine readings, he knew Brains had read through them, so he didn't have to inform Scott of the situation. The ion engine popped up. All were within range, but they weren't active. John left these up and went back to the hologram. He wanted to be the first to know when Thunderbird 3 moved.
Another explosion from the cargo ship made John's heart jump.
"Come on, Alan. Get out of there." John said to himself. Eyes on the warning signs, indicating the weaker points and volatile parts of the ship. Why did people think they could get away with such poor modifications and not jeopardise safety? He floated impatiently waiting for Thunderbird 3 to move. His eyes flitted over the diagram as two more of the orange hazard lights turned red. Seconds later, they exploded, tearing the cargo ship apart and sending shrapnel towards Thunderbird 3. John eyes were glued to the hologram as the part attaching Thunderbird 3 to the ship came away. Alan, get out of there! John willed, as more warning lights went red and another explosion occurred sending more wreckage at Thunderbird 3.
Out the corner of his eye, John saw one of the sensors change. The fuel temperature sensor was no longer producing a reading. Fear filled John. Alan should be able to fly without the sensor, but what if it indicated damage that they couldn't see? The indicators changed in front of his eyes, and relief filled him. The ion engine was starting up, Alan was on Three! John flipped the sensor display away, zoomed in on Three and he watched for movement. A smile crept on his face as the rocket started moving away from the exploring ship. His eyes stayed on it as he waited for Alan to clear the blast radius, the fuel sensor forgotten, and already thinking ahead to welcoming his brother onto Five.
Then he watched it happen. The hologram of Thunderbird 3 flickered as the sensors struggled to keep up with the changes. John watched as Thunderbird 3 was torn apart. The explosion tore up the side, along the fuel and oxygen pipes. John quickly pulled up the readings from Three, but there were none transmitting. His baby brother was on Three. He knew the cabin was self-contained with its own oxygen supply, but it wouldn't last long, a day at max. Most of the oxygen was carried in the main body. That was assuming the cabin hadn't been breached. John accessed Thunderbird 5's sensors and tried to boost them, frantically setting them to scan for life signs. He needed to know if Alan was alive. He had to find his baby brother. But it was just too far away, and John closed his eyes and held his head in his hands.
Alan.
Not Alan.
John was brought out his thoughts by a call from the island. He snapped himself to, took a deep breath and slipped into professional mode, pushing the pain deep down. He answered the call and he came face to face with the terrified hologram of his eldest brother.
"Tell me he's okay, John. Tell me you can get a reading on him." Scott's voice was desperate.
John looked into his brother's eyes and said nothing. John watch Scott crumple and fall into the sofa, and he knew Scott was running through options. The same options that were now running through his head.
“It too far for me to go in the exosuit. We need to find a vessel willing and able to take us there. EOS, scan the area and check the GDF log of authorised and unauthorised ships that are in orbit and a day’s flight from Thunderbird 3.”
“Right away, John.” His dependable AI replied. John turned back to Scott. He had to give Scott something to do, otherwise he’d pace a hole in the floor of the villa, though he might do that anyway.
“Scott, get onto Colonel Casey. Explain the situation and see if they have any vessels up here or on the ground that we might be able to use.”
“FAB.”
Scott’s hologram disappeared and John’s head dropped. They all knew the odds. They would all tell themselves this was a rescue, but deep down, their hearts were breaking. John wiped away the tear he couldn’t stop and turned to EOS. A nod and a list of vessels, their routes and maximum speeds were listed in front of him, along with a hologram of all their locations in respect to the remains of Thunderbird Three.
“Thank you, EOS.” John started the task of assessing which vessels could help them and contacting them.
***
EOS watched John work. She had only stopped to inform him that Virgil and Gordon were back on the Island. Continuing to field calls elsewhere, she had listened in when Scott had sat his brothers down and broken the news. Gordon had struggled to believe it, and he and Virgil watched the holograms. EOS had learnt how each brother showed and expressed pain, and she could see it in all three. Grandma had comforted Virgil and Scott had sat down with Gordon. Scott had explained what the plan was, and after a short time of sitting in silence, the younger Tracys disappeared in different directions. EOS fielded Gordon’s call to Penelope, who changed her plans and had Parker fly straight to Tracy Island. There was tension and worry in every Tracy, and EOS had concerns about John. She monitored his bio-readings, breaks, meals and sleeping patterns. He was overdue a meal by two hours now, and she was starting to see the effects of mild dehydration, but the look on his face as he worked told her she shouldn’t inform him.
EOS continued to monitor the wreckage. She was aware that Thunderbird Five’s scans couldn’t be improved, but she still scanned. Hope was an amazing thing for humans. She’d learnt that first-hand, and she wanted to give it to John. There was nothing new in her last scan, just wreckage moving as it should. EOS scanned again, then analysed every byte of data that came from them. She analysed it again. Something was different. There was a blip. One piece of the wreck had moved in a direction it shouldn’t have. It was only a fraction out, nothing to concern John with, but she noted it for later. Five minutes later she ran the scan again. The wreckage had moved further in the wrong direction. She rechecked the data. Whether it was significant, she couldn’t tell, but John was on a call to a nearby vessel, and it could wait. The call lasted a while, and another five minutes passed, and another scan was performed. The blip was definitely moving, and EOS plotted its trajectory. It was heading for Earth.
***
John hung up. Another ship wanting to help but unable to due to the superiors wanting the schedule to be kept. They considered it a recovery. That meant it wasn’t a priority. Well it was for him! It was his little brother out there. Lost in space. Anger churned inside him. Anger at the lack of help, anger that his brother was lost, anger the he couldn’t do more. John took a breath and tried not to let it surface. He had a job to do.
“John.”
“Yes, EOS.”
“Something has shown up on my scans.”
John looked up at EOS, gazing into the lens and seeing his reflection. He turned to the holograms before him.
“Show me.”
The picture changed and EOS highlighted a small scrap of debris on it. EOS displayed the time next to it and then flipped through the scans from the past forty minutes. John saw what she saw. The wreckage changed direction. Only something with an engine could do that. It was a flicker, a small spark of hope in his heart. Alan was a Tracy. John zoomed in, but the scan struggled to resolve the image. A quick run through Thunderbird 3’s inventory and the idea came to him.
“It’s moving a little too fast to be Alan on his board, but it could be the space pod. I would expect it to go faster if configured, but if damaged it might be slower, or if not configured, the basic engine would go about that fast.”
“A space pod would not have enough fuel or oxygen to get back to Earth.” EOS stated.
“But if we, or someone, could meet it halfway we might just…”
John could feel it now, the hope. He headed back to the list of vessels, trying to find one that might just be able to make a detour. As he was searching, a call came from Tracy Island. John accepted it and was greeted by Scott.
“There is a small spacecraft attached to Global One. Colonel Casey and the GDF are going to allow us to use it. It should be able to get you there and back. There is a shuttle being prepared now, but it won’t be able to launch until tomorrow. I’ll be on it and will meet you when you return to transport Alan back to Earth.”
EOS brought the information on the GDF vessel up in front of him, and John scanned the data. His eyes fell on the maximum velocity. It really was a small ship.
“Scott, it’ll take almost two days to reach Thunderbird Three in this ship. Alan won’t have that much time.”
The sorrow in Scott face tore into John.
“I know, but we have to bring Alan home.”
“FAB.”
John cut the link and looked at the last scan of the wreckage.
“You didn’t mention the pod.” EOS stated and John swore he could see the confusion in her lens.
“I don’t want to give him false hope. There is limited oxygen on the space pod. There is no guarantee we’ll make it in time.”

Top 5 Games, ever...?
This was sort of on my mind, considering the recent GOTY post I made. Come explore the hyperfixations that managed to stick around long enough to be my top 5 list.
5. Uhhhhhh
Tumblr media
So turns out I haven’t figured out what number 5 is yet. I suppose instead I’ve got to split it among the honourable mentions, huh.
Kirby Super Star Ultra is probably the best game from the GBA/DS era of the series and is just a blast to play. It introduced Masked Dedede, and all the banging music and memes that come with it, and probably deserves a spot here just for that.
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth removes all the awkward Flash Stuff from the excellent original, and adds so, so much more content- the game’s final expansion still isn’t out yet as of writing but even now there’s just so much to unlock. While some aspects of the game can be pretty unforgiving, you probably aren’t going to be exposed to the worst of it unless you get into it pretty hardcore, and if you do, you’ll get used to it. It’s a roguelike, after all.
Speaking of roguelikes, FTL: Faster than Light is chaotic yet serene, brutal but fair, and a bunch of other pretentious dichotomies wrapped into a neat little bow. It takes some getting used to the mechanics, but once you get the hang of it, building your little ship up and up in the face of all odds is extremely satisfying. Have fun dying hopefully not too many times.
SPEAKING of permadeath, Realm of the Mad God gets a spot here just out of sheer hours I’ve spent with it. After a messy few years with a not-so-great owner lead me to dropping the game, it seems finally to have recovered and has devs and community that actually freaking care about it, which is nice. Also, it’s free, and the recent transition to unity has the game looking better and playing smoother than 12-year-old me could ever have dreamed of.
Terraria isn’t just 2D Minecraft btw, its actually more of an RPG/Metroidvania thing, you probably know at this point, but its pretty good hey. Still haven’t fully dove into 1.4 but considering I thought Red was done at 1.1 I’m not complaining with what I have played.
 4. Fallout: New Vegas
Tumblr media
(...ish??)
I’d argue that between the primitiveness of the original Fallout games (I’ve tried to get into them, but I just can’t) and how…meh… the other Bethesda ones are, New Vegas is the only one in the series to stand up strong. Obsidian’s excellent writing and tweaks to the gameplay of 3 make New Vegas feel like an actual world, rich and characterised, which was something I found lacking in previous open-world RPGs I’d played up until that point (which admittedly might just have been Skyrim). It’s a game that challenges you to make choices that actually matter for more than the mere moments of an altered dialogue tree, both in dialogue and character building, which helps make the game actually replayable. It is also the first game in a long time that really sold the idea of DLC on me, seeing as each of the game’s 4 expansions adds an entire new region of world with its own stories and unique gameplay, tying together with the main plot but standing on their own. I am excluding Gun Runner’s Arsenal from this for obvious reasons, though it isn’t like GRA is a bad DLC or anything- on the contrary, the sheer scope of modifications and munitions makes playing a repair/science-based character incredibly fulfilling- but it just isn’t at the same scope as the other 4 (Courier’s stash barely counts seeing as its just oops! All preorder bonuses).
New Vegas is one of the few games I have actually 100% completed, achievements and all, but I’m still pretty sure there are bits I’ve missed, paths I haven’t taken, characters I haven’t talked to. Despite its inhospitability, the Mojave is always a comfortable place to return to.
 3. VA-11 Hall-A
Tumblr media
(Hey look, my phone background)
Vallhalla is a masterclass in storytelling, atmosphere, and aesthetic. Like all good cyberpunk dystopias, you get themes of class and transhumanism and artificial intelligence, but they aren’t the point of Vallhalla. Through the window and lens of cyberpunk and PC98 nostalgia is focussed a surprisingly human story centred around the protagonist, Jill, which through multiple replays still hits me in the feels just so. Of course, Jill’s story is not the only one being discussed, as every single patron of the bar has their own life going on, and the glimpses we get imply a rich, often interconnected, world. Glitch City is, frankly, a shithole, and it’s not like you don’t get some assholes coming into the bar while you’re working it. The first patron you serve, in fact, is a great example of this- Donovan D. Dawson, essentially a parody of J. Jonah Jameson, is a colossal prick and knows it- but its clear he has his own system of morals and it is mentioned that he’s excellent at his job, much as he gripes about it. He’s rude and more than a little sexist, but frustratingly charismatic and authoritative, and he’s just one of many people who show up throughout the game. Vallhalla is the perfect game to sit down, grab your preferred beverage, and just relax with.
 2. Total Annihilation
Tumblr media
(This image is on the steam page for this one, despite blatantly not being from vanilla TA)
I think I actually need to explain this one. Total Annihilation was a game released in 1997 made largely by Chuck Taylor, who would later go on to produce spiritual successor Supreme Commander. It’s an RTS game featuring exclusively robotic units with a fairly chunky aesthetic, allowing the visuals to age better than some, and a fully orchestrated soundtrack by Jeremy Soule, who would later go on to do work on a whole bunch of stuff, most notably Skyrim.
Total Annihilation is an intensely nostalgic game for me, being one of the first games I ever got to play as a kid outside of edutainment stuff, and I’d argue still holds up today (especially with the excellent Escalation mod). What it lacks in story (it’s pretty basic, but functional) it makes up for being miles ahead of its time mechanically, being the first (?) RTS to function in 3 dimensions- heights of things actually matter, hills exist and certain units climb them better than others, shooting down airplanes is difficult without anti-air but possible if you aim *just* right. While appearing pretty similar and having largely analogous units, the two factions of Arm and Core are well fleshed-out in terms of aesthetic and playstyle- Arm preferring fast and cheap equivalents to Core’s slow but powerful- and the unit variety is sufficient that strategies can vary wildly based on the map. Both campaigns as well as those from the game’s expansions are challenging, but satisfying, limiting the units you can produce to force exploration of different playstyles.
Total Annihilation isn’t something I tend to binge play for hours anymore, but I’ll pick it up for a bit every so often, and I don’t see that stopping for a long time (especially due to the recent steam release).
 1. Pokémon Emerald
Tumblr media
(At the top, where it belongs)
Yeah, this was inevitable. Pokémon is my favourite series ever; Emerald is my favourite in the series. Go figure.
Emerald, being the final game for the franchise’s days on the Game Boy, reflects everything Game Freak had learned in the first 3 generations of the series’ history. The game’s balance is challenging but fair, never spiking so tough that it is insurmountable but never holding your hand either. The AI opponents are throwing odd combinations of mons and moves at you from every corner, double battles are everywhere but rarely mandatory, and the variety of available mon both before and during the postgame is excellent. The added features on top of Ruby and Sapphire are great- Battle Tents serve to replace 3 of the contest halls (they should have all been under one roof to begin with) and provide a taste of what would later be available in the Battle Frontier. The Frontier is probably the single most expansive and challenging postgame in any Pokémon game, providing the game with a longevity that is sorely needed due to the inaccessibility of Pre-DS multiplayer. The game also manages to tie together the plot of both Ruby and Sapphire into something that feels natural, and provides the series’ first ever actual cutscene, which felt a lot cooler at the time than it sounds now. The return of animated sprites gives the Pokémon a level of life far beyond the static sprites of RSFRLG, and in my eyes wouldn’t feel the same until Black and White several years later. The return of the Pokégear phone in the form of Match Call, as irritating as it is to some, makes the world feel alive in a way that Sinnoh and Kanto probably never will, in addition to making grinding a fair bit less tedious and more beneficial. It is, altogether, probably the perfect Pokémon experience, and in my opinion only one other game comes close (its Platinum).
Oh also, they got rid of the font from Ruby and Sapphire, thank fuck, that shit is atrocious.

Chapter 18- From Yesterday
Tumblr media
"But it's hard to admit How it ends and begins On his face is a map of the world."
Tumblr media
It was a grueling 72 hours since they started to work on Lirael, barely even stopping to take meal breaks. The only reason that they did was because Jin practically shoved food down their mouths, making them choke and pause to chew. He was worried about Namjoon and Hoseok if they kept it up but what bothered him the most was the person that they were working on. He didn’t realize that with her awakening, it would affect him so much. He tried to watch as they worked on her, actually seeing what she was made of--the intricate details that wove together her biological parts with the technological aspect.
Yet, among the blood and wires--he felt a sort of kinship with her and she didn’t even speak one word to him yet. His fingers grazed the outer corners of his eyes, the sharp and unnatural color of them was a constant reminder of what happened to him. The faint scars that he could feel there practically burning as he watched them work on her. Jimin, along with others, had come to the ship about a day ago but his reaction was something similar to Yoongi’s. And it surprised him greatly, on both accounts.
Jimin had burst into tears when he saw what they were doing to her, to which Vairuit steered him away from the area. Nyala joined them in the room, getting looked at while Namjoon was finishing up with what he was doing. She watched over them while everyone else could stand outside and look through the glass into the sickbay. Jin was one of the ones that had been standing there for a while, Yoongi coming and going to check up on everything. He still couldn’t get a good read on the man but one could tell that he was disturbed by what was going on. When he wasn’t there, he would slink back to the cockpit to sit with Jungkook to watch over the area.
Jin dropped his hand from his eyes, the old ache reverberating through his head and face. The faint memory of the incident bothered him from time to time, even more so when he encountered something that would remind him of what happened. Which was why he couldn’t be in the same room as them, nor could Jimin since he had something similar happen. He got along better with Jimin sometimes because of it, the both of them having the scars of repair. It hurt his heart that someone like her would have to have the same ones they had. No matter what she was, she was an innocent in their band of rogues.
“Oh, he’ll be a good one soon.”
The needles and the sterile atmosphere were a constant reminder of where he was. For more than half of his life, he’d been there in those same rooms as fingers and tests were constantly bothering him. That voice, silky and low, was something that haunted his dreams constantly as he had to hear it in his waking moments. They were always doing something to his body, testing it for something that was beyond his scope of understanding. His tears and pain had long dried up, becoming a husk of what he used to be. But that was the way that they liked it, their subjects compliant with everything they said.
Oh, how they praised Samael for his accomplishments, showing off his body and charts to some of the others in his circle. He remembered actually being alarmed with his superiors, fear flooding his veins more than normal when he laid eyes on Samael’s boss. The stare troubling him more than the rest, more than the needles and the procedures. He was to be a prototype for a new army that they were breeding, seeing what all they could get away with. The applications being implanted in their project, the Maiden Program.
He understood snippets of what they were talking about, how close they were to the perfect being and with what they were doing to him--it would all go to it, a being born specifically for their purposes.
He cried, shivering in his corner once he was taken back to his cell. His whole body ached after that meeting, the fear and the understanding that he was nothing more than a canvass for science. It was one time that he couldn’t drive away the pain, humiliation and his whole reality by delving into a dream of a field of warmth. That same golden field where he could sink his hands into the foliage, the warm dirt beneath his feet and the gentle wind that lightly caressed his bare skin. He often saw that scene in his dreams, chasing away the cruel voice and fingers that haunted his waking moments. Often, a girl would join his dreams and would tell him in a soft voice to hold on--to believe in his dream of freedom. A girl with golden hair, just like the field.
“You need to get up!”
He awoke from that sweet dream, the feeling of stiffness from the past tears that had fallen down his face. He rubbed his face as he realized that there was someone else in his cell, someone that was at that meeting. He remembered the cold, blue eyes and instantly shied away from him. The man crouched down, a finger on his lips as he reached around to pull out a black mask. It was something he recognized from a man that frequented the labs, one that always got into arguments with Samael. He put the black mask on himself, the only thing showing was his icy eyes--the whole getup striking him like someone had actually stooped over to slap him.
It was the Demon Sonneillon, the harbinger of death among the top tier Guild. However, he knew the man as someone kind despite what he could do to others. The man would visit, to keep the Mad Doctor in check but would always pity the subjects in his care. While Samael was gone, Sonneillon would give them a sweet treat--the hatred in the man’s eyes would evaporate when dealing with the lab rats.
“Do you want to live here for the rest of your life?” The demon held his hand out to him, getting up from his crouched position. He knew better than to trust a Demon but his offer was one that was sweeter than the sterile life there. After finding some clothes for himself, the pair found their way towards the docking bay. However, they couldn’t just escape quietly as Samael caught them in the act. His dark skin, wicked grin--he was enjoying the mice running around in the maze. Sonneillon roared with anger, killing all that dared to bother him and the ones he freed. It was like a dying beast, getting in the last hunt before succumbing to his weaknesses.
He was scared but her voice urged him on, to hold onto his freedom. He’d had a taste of what it was like, the exhilarating moment that had his soul singing. People dropped all around him but he kept close to the demon that freed him.
Samael caught up to them, smiling like he had found the answer to all of his problems. He held out a hand, inviting him to stay--to become something bigger. But his tone was far from warm and safe, a threat lined underneath the words. It was almost compelling him to stay, a command laced in the undertones. He resisted, the desperation that he was holding onto that kept him from running towards the Doctor.
However, that was the wrong answer as Sonneillon yelled for the Mad Doctor to die. Something ugly twisted his features as he lashed out at the insubordination. He ran in front of the attack, catching the full brunt of it to keep his only friend and savior from being hurt. The attack caught him in the face, rendering him blind and bleeding. He didn’t know what happened next, only darkness and pain that kept him going. He could deal with that, pushing past his body’s limits as he was made to do. The demon helped him into the ship but found that he was locked out from using it. He could hear the frustration in the demon’s voice, ready to die for his own freedom.
But there was something that the demon didn’t know, a way out.
He was able to use the ship, access its systems due to the modifications that had been forced upon him. The synaptic processor that had been implanted into his brain, replacing his parietal lobe--it allowed him to “see” and bypass the locks. After all, the brain is the most complex computer in a species like himself. His reflexes and body enhancements were just enough to escape the Guild, eyes bleeding and brain being strained from the effort. He was going to get them out of there, to chase his wish of freedom.
He awoke to another hospital but one that treated his injuries instead of that hell he was in. Blind and scared, he turned to the Demon that saved him--one that still stayed with him instead of abandoning him to his fate after escaping. He would have to lay in the darkness for a while until something could be done but they were free. A feeling that he only experienced in his dreams, finally a reality.
“Shikoba, what do you want to do now?”
A bloody tear fell from his damaged eyes, one that wasn’t soaked up by the bandages around his face. He didn’t know the answer to that but there was one thing he was certain of. He reached up and started to scratch at the tattoo on his forearm, to the point where it was bleeding. Sonneillon tried to stop him but his strong fingers had dug into the skin, disrupting the tattoo that was there. Pushing the man away, he had mauled his skin until he was satisfied. By the time the nurses got there, the area was a bleeding mess.
“I am dead.” A sob racked his body as they sedated him again, the Demon watching on as his body relaxed again. “But I will live again soon. You should too. I am made to survive so please be free.”
“We both are dead now. So sleep and know that I’ll be here when you wake up.”
“Jin?”
He hadn’t realized that he had been crying, an actual feat that his body was barely able to do those days. Because of the implants, it was incredibly hard for him to produce tears but it didn’t matter anyways since he rarely felt the need to cry. The Pilot realized that Yoongi had been talking to him, sensing the turbulence in the man.
“Did you get any supplies wrangled up before we leave this place? I heard you got some more food products I can actually work with.”
Yoongi nodded, deciding not to press the issue. Jin turned, furiously wiped his face before looking back at the scene. Namjoon and Hoseok had just finished what they were doing, covering up her body out of respect. Nyala was talking to them, pointing towards the cockpit as she instructed them on something he couldn’t hear. He furrowed his eyebrows as the both of them watched the pair pick up her body and carry her out. He was going to protest, questioning their decision to move her body but Nyala placed a hand on his shoulder with a small smile.
Namjoon carried her body to the bridge and set her on a peculiar area that he hadn’t really noticed before. It was one that was situated right behind his pilot’s seat, a circle that looked like something should have gone there. As instructed, Namjoon put her body down into the circle and stepped back.
Initiating Maiden Interface.
They all heard Kibeth’s voice call out before the area sunk down deep into the floor. The top closed after enveloping her; a series of mechanical clicks could be heard before a large cylinder shot up, attaching the top to the other half. Suddenly the sides of it slid away showing Lirael in the cylinder like she was floating in that space. Her arms were crossed over her chest and her eyes were still closed.
Lights all across the bridge started to light up, and areas that were dead or barely working were now almost singing to life. An unexpected glow shining in the cylinder lit up her features more. The sides covered up the most important parts of her body. Lirael’s eyes slowly opened, the green color radiating with life. She blinked, looking around at something that they couldn’t see. Her mouth opened a bit like she was about to speak but instead something else happened.
Oh!
A voice, light and soft, could be heard as she smiled. Hoseok cheered suddenly, scaring them all as his mouth grew wide with a smile. Namjoon grunted in satisfaction as he was trying, very obviously,  to keep from cheering as well. Jungkook clapped Jin on his shoulder but the man was focused on Yoongi, who had walked up to the tank. Lirael shifted in there to look at him, a happy expression on her face.
I am Lirael, but I do not know your names! Thank you so much for helping me and Nyala! I have just access the ship’s systems and everything is in running order. You are Yoongi, are you not?
Yoongi didn’t answer her but extended his hand to touch the tank. A tear fell down his cheek as he used his abilities to connect to her mind. It was something that was bothering him, whether or not she was more machine than body. He realized that she was just like the rest of them but with a connection that he just couldn’t handle at the moment. It was something that he’d been sensing as well as with Nyala but the pieces just wouldn’t fit together until he joined minds with her.
Suddenly, everything made sense to him and it overwhelmed him.
You are leaking! Are you in need of repair? Do you have damage, Mr. Yoongi?
Yoongi snatched his hand away from the tank and ran out, embarrassed that he caused such a scene. Nyala came up to her and reassured her that everything was fine. Jin watched the exchange, the scene being committed to his memory unit. The success of the endeavor was being saved and he would remember it all for them.
