I think two months ago I talked about feeling drawn to a certain color of nail polish because I felt that it had magical significance but also a check in and reflection of this new energy that I was stepping in and that I should embody more of.
Onychomancy is a form of divination, where the source of messages comes from the nails of a person. There's occultic meaning behind the shape of your nails, the health state of your nails, and metaphysical properties that signify intention of what you're attracting, based off the style of how you wear your nails.
I've read a lot of interpretations of what certain nail shapes, specific changes (both good and bad) in nails, and nail aesthetics. But I feel like more analytics behind the significance of nail polish colors is hard to find or there's just simply not much information that is out there.
I've found a new comfort and interest in investing in my nails and thought it would be cool to start a new series based off of my personal observations of wearing specific nail colors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This post will be about my magical experience with wearing brown nail polish.
✦ The Symbolism ✦
Planet: I personally associate the planet Saturn with this Nail Color, but I've read that in Vedic Astrology, Brown in general is also a color of Ketu.
Season: Fall! Without a doubt I associate the color Brown with this season. This could also explain why I felt the urge paint my nails with this shade, but what I find interesting is that Libra season starts during Fall, and Libra exalts in Saturn.
Element: Earth/Air
Numerology: 7 (Ketu)
Chakra: Root
Animal: Snake. Before I get into the spiritual and magical effects of wearing brown for nail polish, I'd like to mention that I noticed major Kundalini energy from this, and Kundalini is normally represented by a snake which could also explain the ketuvian influence since Ketu is also represented by a snake.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
✦ The Effect ✦
From what I initially gathered thanks to this article. Brown Nail Polish metaphysically symbolizes vigor, tenacity, stability, consistency, and perseverance.
Now based off of my personal experience from wearing brown nail polish for a month and pairing it with astrology, the magical effect behind brown nail polish initiates drive, powering through new transformations in your self concept, surroundings, relationships, opportunities, and priorities when you come across moments where you internally feel too stubborn or stuck to adapt to what's changing for you and what needs to be left behind. Fall is the part of the year where we naturally feel more sluggish and are in need of a push in taking care of both ourselves and our goals.
The Saturn in Libra vibe that I got from this, was how it promoted more balance for me. On one side of this, it's making commitments towards getting things in order, following through on when I needed to stand on business which at times could feel like I was detaching myself from the more pleasurable things in life like romance and knowing when it's time to rest. An increase in my initiative for hard work but also measuring my limits while learning more on how to improve my time management.
On the other side, was more about what I was attracting and was unconsciously giving. I attracted a lot of good opportunities with money and even compliments from people on almost anything the more that I took time in pouring back into myself. The effects from how this color made me achieve more balance, was receiving creative ideas for both small and long term goals for me to act on, but the patience to work on things thoroughly, slowly, and in a realistic lens.
I found myself embracing the small things in life like enjoying being outside to look at simple stuff like the sky, trees, or just feeling how good the air is, knowing that it is safe to spend money and that I have time to explore things in my city or to do things outside of school and work.
The aesthetic behind this nail polish for the people that noticed that I was wearing it, intrigued them because they never thought to wear such a color on their nails, I saw this as a representation of how the energy behind the nail polish introducing newer ways of seeing things related to beauty, moderation, healing, and timing.
Extras: If you like this shade of brown that I'm wearing, it's called "Dark Horse" and you can get it here from this brand called Moon Cat 🌙
I hope that this post was insightful for you guys, if you have any recommendations for how I can make this more in depth, interesting, clarifying, then your feedback is much appreciated.

A new beauty routine I’ve recently invested in is getting my nails done at a salon.
I haven’t seen a lot of people discuss the esoteric significance of doing your nails more intentionally. Onychomancy is a divination tool that explains how a person’s nails signify energies that one intends to attract more of in their life. Essentially, the shape, health condition of a person’s nails as well as how it’s colored and/or designed carries messages from each person’s psyche and divine source(s). Once i’ve learned of this magick, doing my nails have helped me to become more aware of the energies that i need to embody more and which for me to release.
I thought it’ll be cool to analyze the inspiration behind my new set and discover what it is that i’m trying to manifest with them. 🎀🤍
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is what my new set looks like !
At first glance it’s pretty apparent that i’m going for a wintery snow vibe overall. Perfect for the colder January - early February days. Aesthetically, i was most inspired by:
clean, crisp, winter days when the branches turn to icicles.
The look of glaciers and ice during sunny mornings which in some shade turns everything white to a gorgeous translucent blue.
The waif-like elegance of figure skaters. Especially, the way a body could be disciplined to move, bend, and twirl on harsh and frozen surface.
The icy and delicate femininity of an “ice princess” appearance.
The catch however, is in my choice of coffin tips which is where onychomancy reveals the true inspiration and intention behind it.
Tumblr media
🧊Grace Kelly in Rear Window (1954)
“She’s not cold. She’s a volcano covered in snow”
This quote from Alfred Hitchcock summed up the energetic essence of my nails. When Hitchcock was asked about his distinctly cool, blonde female leads, he disagreed with the consensus that she was merely icy and sterile or submissive. Instead, underneath the cool mask burns simmering passion and emotional complexity. Despite the calming or icy effect of the designs (depending on how you perceive them), coffin shaped nails according to onychomancy, corresponds to fire. I’m personally aiming to activate my tropical chart’s water houses 4,8, and 12, aka houses of things hidden and the subconscious. These houses in my chart are ruled by the fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius).
This set is less about manifesting an outcome and more focused on embodying a persona. In the book Hitchcock/Truffaut, Grace Kelly recurring presence on his films was described as a paradox between the inner fire and the cold surface: “she is sensitive, disciplined, and very sexy”. Such duality makes Grace and other women sharing similar roles on screen a compelling and mysterious force of art.

🪞Kim Novak in Vertigo (1958)
So my current nails shows rather than tells about the wearer. In a book of Onychomancy, it states how glass tips are like windows. A purely transparent set express full candor yet if it is embellished, the wearer may enjoy a bit of poetic license in its revelation. This is for someone who says “please look. but don’t touch”. I like how the book also states the support glass tips provide for setting boundaries and discernment which is something i’m trying to incorporate in the otherwise explosive self-expression of my inner truth. When I do express my emotions outward, I’m reminded that not everyone deserves to know this side of me. Color wise, my set can be placed in the light blue category. Based on color psychology this shade of blue symbolise patience, peace, and calmness. I view this color as Saturnian in nature. Because boundaries + coolness vibrates with Saturn.
A person whose fire elements is in her hidden houses posess a lot of passion and energy within a calm surface. There’s a tendency to hide this side of myself out of shame. I was made to feel that this authentic side of me was too much even frightening, thus not meant to be seen. I think my set wants me to feel safe expressing more of my fiery creative side by being assured that I’ll naturally remain “cool-headed” while doing so. I’m encourage by the intensity of my emotions and expressing my passions unapologetically without the fear of losing my mind. The addition of a 3D snowflake heart on my mars fingers (thumbnails) represents heart-centered willpower. Even if she’s a little cold, she’s not without life.
I find the women of Hitchcock thrillers act as invitations to explore the hidden inhibitions of his protagonist. If they aren’t capable of maintaining a healthy sense of mind, they’d lost it in the pursuit of her mysterious secret inner world. I think her independence, range, poise, and determination is something I like to embody more of recently💋.

*I don’t claim invention or expertise of onychomancy. For more depth on the subject you can check @/occult nails and @/taibunnii on Twitter.
*Ki Lunula books such as : “The Ancient Art of Onychomancy” and/or “Explorations in Onychomancy”are great sources of knowledge on this subject.

I love these nails. These nails have a lot of Yin energy from the square shape (Earth energy) to the Black glass color (black absorbs light which is also Yin energy). The glass tips are so pretty and they protect boundaries but also is open to being seen/observed. The gems at the base of the nails is what I love most (i love sparkly nails of any sorts); the base of the nail represents sacral energy which is your sensuality/emotions, so it naturally stimulates yoni energy as well.

Onychomancy aka Nail Magic 💅🏽
Tumblr media
Although, I am a glamour witch. I was never the kinda girl who got her nails done.
You:
Tumblr media
Me:
Tumblr media
I did paint my nails often, so yes i was still doing nail magic. So you might be wondering what even is Onychomancy?
Tumblr media
Onychomancy is a form of glamour magic and divination. For this post I’ll be focusing on the glamour aspect of it since I’m more familiar with it than divination. I will be referring to onychomancy as nail magic for the rest of the post. There are there are four aspects of nail magic you have to think about.
Color
2. Nail shape
3. Length
4. Finger placements
I’m going to use my own nails to breakdown these concepts
Tumblr media
they’re super cute aren’t they?
Colors: nude, red & pink
Color magic is one of the oldest forms of magic yet a completed one. I encourage you to embrace your uniqueness when it comes to color magic. A lot of the information online is from the White Western perspective regarding the meaning. Use your lived in life experience too to guide you in this form of work. With that disclaimer out of the way, I am going to be using a mixture of personal western and eastern color meanings due to my background.
Nude: This color is used for the base of the nail. Nude are seen as simple, elegance, and authentic. The reason a lot of the wealthy tend to wear it is because it seamlessly blends in.
Red: The color of love & passion, which is highly favored during Valentine’s Day. The thought of red roses, and hearts but the red is not the focus of this nail set. It’s used to accent the piece.
Pink: Seen as a color of innocence. While being associated with girlhood, it also pleads to the girlhood dream lover. There is just something about wanting and seeking true love.
Bonus! for the nail art. It’s a French tips with hearts and kiss marks which furthers points to the romantic energy I’m looking to receive and give this month.
2. Nail shape:
I decided to do a coffin this time around; I wanted to use fire energy which is about forward movement. My moon is also in Aries so I want to speak from the heart.
3. Length:
My nails are short. Which keeps me grounded to the reality of my situation.
4. Finger placements:
Each finger has a difference planet and tarot card assigned to them. There are kiss marks on my ring and middle finger. Ring finger is the sun and the middle finger is Saturn. Is it cheeky that I placed two kiss marks on Saturn? Very much so; I’m trying to get on Daddy Saturn’s good side and my sun. It is almost like a thank you moment
In summary, this February I’m seeing my romantic relationship with elegance and cheeky flirty energy. There won’t be any complicated interactions due to the heavy influence of the nude color but romantic gestures will be received and given.
Within week of getting this set, my partner gave me red roses and I’m determined to bake him a cheesecake for Valentine times day.
I hope this helped get you familiarized with this topic of glamour magic. If you have any questions please let me know! Blessings to you darling 💋

Went down a brief Wikipedia rabbit hole and discovered onychomancy: the practice of holding fingernails up to strong light and divining meaning in the "signs" that appear on the nail.
Aka, palmistry but even sillier.

Also. I felt drawn to paint my nails brown and decided to look up the onychomancy behind it because nail polish magic is a thing. And the meaning behind it really does resonate with the energy that I'm aligning with.

Long squared tips embody Yin and Earth energy; manifesting luxury vibes and abundance. There are multiple gems which can indicate some kind of concentrated energy depending on the number and placement of the gems. All gems are placed on the left ring finger (Apollo) which enhances your creative practices and assists in inner child healing and joy. Hot pink/fuchsia is a color that symbolizes soft power; specifically a passionate, flirtatious, and sensual/sexual vibe. The lace detail is so cute and girly! In many cultures, lace symbolizes wealth. 💖🎀💅

Three nails fell of on my right hand.
The pointer, middle, and ring fingers.
Surely this most mean something since it's all happened with my right hand...
According to kikimancy's article
The right index finger: practical moves
The right middle finger: reflect on work, career & finances
The right ring finger: how to have fun, creative expression now and outer world
Also according to kikimancy's article says it could just mean a new cycle. I'm so excited with this news because I've been praying.

Finger Injuries how do they pertain to your consciousness?
Tumblr media
Overall pain, trauma, illness, or injuries to fingers can mean you feel unsure where you fit in, need to establish your identity, be validated, or don’t feel supported when doing things.
Fingers are complex in the way that each finger has a different psychological reasoning behind the injury but also each finger correlates to the birth-chart, tarot and chakra system.
Reading finger nails in itself is a whole method of divination so when considering fingers there’s a whole host of information per each digit. I will not be covering the palms in this discussion but will be considering the thumb to extend from the tip/nail all the way to the wrist.
Thumb
Associated with Mars, life force, and consciousness. In astrology Mars is also associated with the head and the feet both having to do with willpower. When experiencing injury or ailments to the thumb consider if you have had issues with the head or feet as well or if your subconscious is being nice in hurting your thumb rather than your head.
Injury to the thumb nails:
- Right Thumb Nail is the cue to check in with your higher self. Do your plans make logical sense? Are you expressing physicality/sexuality in a way that works for your highest good? Are you being stubborn or forcing a situation?
- Left Thumb Nail is a message from your guides/ancestors. (The left side of the body is feminine energy associated with ancestry and lineage.) Time to pause any plans that feel out of alignment, and rest to reach clarity. (Information from “The Ancient Art of Onychomancy in the Modern World” pg 12)
Injury to the Thumb itself:
- Often related to our relationship with authority. Feeling betrayed, controlled or taken advantage of by authority figures or someone who is triggering old unresolved trauma/issues with an authority figure. You feel you cannot take hold of a project due to fear of failure and attacking criticism. You may feel incompetent when executing tasks and important goals. (Information from “Metaphysical Anatomy” pg 380-381)
- I’d also like to add there could be an over abundance of anger or resentment you can’t let out, you could have Mars in the first house, or not be walking on your own path due to fear of punishment from authority figures. Also an imbalance in your feminine and masculine energy.
Stay tuned for the other fingers!
