thinking about a reader who exists in the periphery of yukimiya's life (as a childhood friend that he never fully outgrew, someone that he walks home with after school every now and then, that he observes fishes and other small creatures in the city's numerous off-side pet shops with once or twice) and the narrative irony of his optic neuropathy getting worse the more he pours himself into soccer and consequently, away from you

you've always been looking at him and admired the way he kept his gaze sternly fixed on his dreams. you have a low maintenance friendship (the result of both of you growing up and moving into different social spheres, you know? your friendship was born in the sandbox of your neighborhood's playground and stayed there, stretched over slanted sandcastles and little plastic tools) and you never took his absence personally because you think you've outgrown your silly unrequited crush on that impossible boy. his eyes never quite truly leave your mind, though, and you've made your peace with that. he's not exactly someone you can forget. but there are bigger, better things for you to look at now. taking a page out of his book, you step out of that nebulous space you both keep your friendship in to pursue your own dreams

distantly, you hope that you can muster half the fire yukimiya had in his eyes when he told your friend group about his return to blue lock. it was after the blue lock v japan u-20 match. he was back home for their break and looked so assured back then. you've given up any hopes of reciprocated affections because your friendship began in the sandbox of a playground neither of you visit anymore and stayed there, but that doesn't make your admiration of him any less genuine

you hope he gets what he wants. he shines brightest when chasing after his dreams, after all

(and one day, when the flashing lights of his would-be career are off and the spots in his eyes won't fade no matter how long he waits, he'll try to recall the warm things that made up his life before blue lock. like walking home with friends after school. like going around the city to windowshop at random places, like independently-owned pet shops. like the playground he used to frequent as a child, before the headaches and doctor visits tore his dreams away.

he'll recall you and feel his heart ache when he can't remember the shape of your smile. he'll recall the feel of you walking beside him but won't remember the sound of your voice stretched over his name.

he thinks he really liked the sound of it once. the way your voice had cradled his name like a bird on the ground that you found in your youth. you said it so freely back then. he can't remember the last time he's messaged you or even heard your voice at all

and that's the terrible thing about living in his periphery. he doesn't even know you aren't there anymore)

Alright. So I have done at least upwards of 30+ replies (starters, replies and asks) necessary to cut what I owe down to a very sizable chunk. So I will be lifting my activity lock. Tomorrow I will resume activity fully! So any threads we may have plotted will start happening tomorrow!
