My Review of Tomo-chan is a Girl!
Tumblr media
How did I get into this anime? I’ve seen this advertised on Crunchyroll weeks before premier and a few hypes elsewhere. Okay, let’s see what you’ve got.
Tumblr media
Tomo Aizawa has been best friends with Junichiro Kubota (or Jun for short) for years. They attended many schools together and were bros for the most part. Once high school came around, things changed for Tomo. She seems more worried about being seen as a girl and has developed feelings for her long-time friend Jun. Tomo even said, “I love you” in the first minute of this anime to Jun. And all she got in return was a, “Ah, I love you to bro”.
Tumblr media
Jun is a dumbass! It’s clear that he wasn’t aware that Tomo was a girl for the longest time. It was probably in middle school when she wore a girl’s uniform. Despite that fact, Jun still treats her like one of the guys…which also includes butt-slapping. Jun really should think twice about slapping anyone’s ass.
Tumblr media
When I saw him slap Tomo’s ass, my mind went straight back to an old King of the Hill episode. It didn’t end well for Bobby. But I digress! Tomo, I doubt this meat-head will ever see you as a love interest, let alone a girl. We have about 12 or 13 episodes to see if this changes for the better.
BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: Holy shit! Same day dub? You’ve gotta be yankin’ me! Okay Crunchyroll, you’ve upped the game yet again. We haven’t been treated to this since the days of Space Dandy. And another rarity these days, the English cast actually sings. It doesn’t happen that often nowadays, but we did get Lexi Nieto sing karaoke in the dub. That was actually comical. That whole scene was. Good job Nieto! Before I go to the cast, something surprising happened in the cast.
A RARE OCCURRENCE: So, I’m about ready to eat my hat when it comes to this. Back when I reviewed Love Live Nijigasaki, I was pretty vocal on the fact that the fans wanted Mia’s Japanese seiyuu to voice Mia in English. I snarked and said it would never happen. Jump to this anime and holy shit, we have someone voicing the same character in both Japanese and English. Even though it is very rare, it has happened before in the past. I’m not including Pokemon here because it should go without saying that Ikue Ootani as Pikachu is a staple everywhere.
Tumblr media
Sally Amaki voices the ditzy blonde friend Carol. Because I had the privilege of watching this anime dubbed, I got the chance to hear Sally in English. Hearing her felt weird yet somewhat familiar. I think it was mostly me trying to pinpoint who is actually voicing her. I didn’t figure out that it was Amaki until like six weeks later. The familiarity was because I had heard her once before. It’s because she was a member of 22/7. Damn, I knew I heard her before. Sally Amaki is someone I expect to hear more from in the future. And the fact that she’s fluent in English surprised me. I mean, REALLY fluent! Okay, that’s enough gushing over this. Here’s the cast.
JAPANESE CAST: *Tomo is played by Rie Takahashi (known for Emilia on Re:Zero, Megumin on Konosuba, Sumi on Rent-A-Girlfriend, Mash on Fate/Grand Order, Ena on Laid Back Camp, and Shino on Girlfiend Girlfriend)
*Jun is played by Kaito Ishikawa (known for Kiawe on Pokemon SM, Genos on One Punch Man, Naofumi on Shield Hero, Iida on My Hero Academia, Sakuta on Bunny Girl Senpai, and Rokudou on Rinne)
ENGLISH CAST: *Tomo is played by Lexi Nieto
*Jun is played by Ricco Fajardo (known for Tatsumi on Zombieland Saga, Mirio on My Hero Academia, Sakurai on Uzaki-chan, Natsuya on Free!, and Kyousuke on Danganronpa)
Tumblr media
FAVORITE CHARACTER: Misuzu…my girl! I love you, but…there’s another! Even though I relate to Misuzu on so much…I’m jumping on the Carol bandwagon.
Tumblr media
Carol for the win!
SHIPPING: I’m sure something will progress by the end of the season. That was my premature take on the matter. Now, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty of the main ship.
Tumblr media
At the beginning of the series, it felt as though Jun didn’t seem to be affected by the love-bug or even aware of how girls feel at a certain age. It’s going to take some time for this idiot to get the message. And when it seems like he’s showing some sort of emotion towards Tomo, Jun says something double-standardy. Like other women can do this, but not her. At least that’s how it felt to me.
Tumblr media
Later in the series, we notice that Jun is really starting to see Tomo as a girl and question little bits of their relationship. In fact, in the first episode when Tomo confessed, he thought it really could mean an actual confession. We even got flashbacks throughout the series with how these two really were. And yes, Jun really was that fucking stupid and didn’t know Tomo was a girl until much later. But that’s when he started to feel something there.
Tumblr media
I’m sure you’re waiting for me to mention Carol and Kousuke since there was a very powerful episode that involved some revelations and “I love yous”. But um, I think everyone here is forgetting some important matter to this cutesy crap.
They are cousins.
Tumblr media
Oh yeah, the Misuzu debacle. She just used Jun to further her own advances of getting him together with Tomo. And Jun kinda did the same thing. The whole thing ended in less than two days and their relationship hasn’t been pleasant from that day forward.
Tumblr media
ENDING: There has been some turmoil between Misuzu, Tomo, and Jun. Misuzu has been feeling guilty about all her advances of girling Tomo up in order to win Jun’s heart. Misuzu ends up distancing herself away from Tomo, but Tomo still lures her back with her forgiving nature. Now comes the Tomo x Jun dilemma. Tomo likes Jun and has been dropping hints at him throughout the majority of this series. Jun likes Tomo and the feeling has been blooming in him for quite a while. Things finally erupted when Jun admits he likes Tomo. But then he also revealed about playing it off when Tomo first declared her feelings in episode 1. So, things didn’t go that well if you’ve got Tomo calling Jun an idiot after he says “I like you”.
Tumblr media
The two eventually have a long talk. They both really like each other. But Tomo has been thinking this through more than Jun. If they go into a relationship, everything changes. And depending on how things end up it can be either successful or will destroy the relationship they already have. But Jun wants Tomo as a buddy, a bro, and a girlfriend. They even go on a date to the movies. Unfortunately, another wall stands in their way to a happy romance. That wall is Tomo’s dad. He refuses Jun to be her boyfriend unless Jun faces and wins a match against him.
Tumblr media
Tomo did not take this well. Jun of course was very worried as he knows he’s not going to win this one. Tomo’s dad is like Bluto in a judo uniform. Regardless of the situation he’s in, Jun is going to go for it. The end result, Jun was actually able to put a dent in Tomo’s dad and was able to make his hands hit the ground for a brief sec. Guess that’s a W here. Tomo x Jun is a go and this ship has sailed.
Unless of course we get a second season and we get a secret lover of some sort?!
No? Okay. Still a great 13 episodes though. Yes, this was a very cute high school romcom. Literally, all of the characters were likeable. Even ones that are rarely in it like the parents. Seriously, Carol, Tomo, and Misuzu’s mothers are something else. With everything that has happened in these 13 episodes, do we even need a second season? The manga is over and with only 50+ chapters, I don’t know. Manga readers, did they cover everything here? Is there any more material to make a second season, movie, or special? I know Tomo and Jun are together. And Carol even got a chance at love. But Misuzu seems to be left out. Is she going to remain the status quo or will she eventually end up with that twank that’s been following her since the beginning? I forget his name. I’ll call him a twank. I personally would rather keep this anime at one season. I wouldn’t mind a special episode in the future, but best to leave things as they are. Any high school romcom fans, come over here. I approve.
If you would like to watch Tomo-chan is a Girl, Crunchyroll has this available in several languages.

I did check on WtW later the VAs but couldn’t be bothered go add notes, but ye!
I was like “surely they won’t get Ikue Ootani to voice a minor background character like this, that’d be a massive waste”, and yeah, Kokoro Kikuchi makes more sense (and I’m always happy to hear her voice <3)
And Ryoko Shiraishi reprising Opossumon was so cute, not just since Opossumon had an amusement park episode in Psi, but also since she was a prominent Hunters Digimon, where we got Jokermon in an amusement park episode... Like it’s a loose connection at best but it’s cute anyways, and it always makes me happy when VAs can reprise their roles ;w;

Pop Team Epic Season 2 Cast
Since the season isn't done yet, I'll be updating this later. Look forward to that!
Note:
Cast will be listed as the following order: Popuko and Pipimi
I will italicize which ones out of the episode I prefer more. The purpose of this is for those who only want to watch one part (since A and B are the exact same except for the voices and ad-libs)
If both are italicized, that means I liked both enough to vouch for watching both
If neither are italicized, that means I haven’t watched the episode yet.
Reasoning and my favourite roles will be listed under the cut if I wish to do so.
Episode 1:
A) Aya Hirano and Minori Chihara
B) Kazuhiko Inoue and Ryo Horikawa
Episode 2
A) Romi Paku and Rie Kugimiya
B) Nobuyuki Hiyama and Toshiyuki Morikawa
Episode 3
A) Ikue Ootani and Inuko Inuyama
B) Junya Enoki and Yuuma Uchida

Comments:
Episode 1:
A) The amount of joy I had watching this episode was
Episode 1:
A) It was a joy watching this pairing. This pairing is particularly known for Haruhi Suzumiya. It felt like watching something straight out of the late 2000s or something. They played off each other so well. Their bit at the end was also really sweet.
B) It’s not that I didn’t enjoy this pairing, but I thought they could’ve been even crazier with it considering the nature of the show. I feel like they probably had more significant roles together in the same show, but the first thing that came to mind for me was Naruto since they played Kakashi and Itachi respectively.
Episode 2:
The writing in this episode had significantly choppier writing. By that, I mean it was far less consistent in terms of getting laughs. Some segments felt like a waste of time.
A) At first, I felt like the roles should’ve been reversed UNTIL I REALIZED IT FIT PERFECTLY. Romi Paku plays the short blond Edward Elric and Rie Kugimiya plays the taller and blue Alphonse Elric. I was a fool. Their segments were genuinely good.
B) They were also really good, but I don’t recall a famous show that I’ve watched with this pairing since it was probably before my time.
Episode 3:
I really like the obvious spoof to Dora the Explorer. It was funny. "Can you point out the filthy old geezer as we chop his [bleep] off?"
A) OH MY FRICKING GOODNESS, THEY GOT PIKACHU AND MEOWTH!!! Yeah, it was fun to watch. They played off each other well. I thought this was going to be an easy win for the other side, but it was pretty much even. The only thing that made part B better were the ad-libs.
B) They are a well-known pairing as of recent anime like Jujutsu Kaisen and Kono Oto Tomare, but I wasn't prepared for how many funny ad-libs they were going to make. I mean, the amount of dick and other dirty jokes were hilarious. When I said this one was gonna be good, I MEANT IT. 110%. This actually made me smile all of the way through even when it wasn’t supposed to be particularly funny. I know not all of their ad-libs made it in (according to them), but they let in SO MANY AD-LIBS. IT WAS AMAZING. That's the only reason why I bolded them.

Natsu-Mon! 20th Century Summer Vacation details detective agency, fireworks, and museum
Gematsu Source
Tumblr media
Publisher Spike Chunsoft, and developers Millennium Kitchen and Toybox have released new information and screenshots for summer vacation adventure game Natsu-Mon! 20th Century Summer Vacation, introducing the Bugle Woods Detective Agency, fireworks shows, and the town museum.
Get the details below.
■ Investigate Incidents with the Local Children of the Bugle Woods Detective Agency
The “Bugle Woods Detective Agency” can be found attached to the “Shibuya Shoten” shop in front of the station. Here, you can enjoy stories in which you investigate the mysteries and incidents of Yomogi with the local children. For example, one case involves the fence behind a shrine breaking, and the pig cherished by the shrine priest escaping. To find out who did it, the kids go to the scene of the incident and interview those involved.
Tumblr media
—Originally opened for children, the “Summer Vacation Independent Research Research Institute” eventually became a detective agency run by the children.

■ Summertime is Festival Time! Help the Fireworks Dealer Light It Up!
A summer festival is held in mid-August in Yomogi. Participate in a Bon Festival dance with everyone, go around the town with a portable shrine, and enjoy circus performances and fireworks shows. And at stalls, you can play mini-games such as target shooting and smat ball. Achieve the high score and you may even get a prize.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fireworks dealer also resides in Yomogi. He is worried about the new fireworks they are working on, and is looking for opinions from a spectator point of view. To help him out, you can come up with a program for the fireworks show, watch a launch test, then give him your thoughts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
■ Help the Museum Gather Things to Exhibit
On the outskirts of Yomogi is the municipal museum. In order to attract more visitors, the museum director is planning a special exhibition of rare insects and fish. You can donate the rare creatures you discover while exploring Yomogi to the museum to help complete the special exhibition.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In addition to rare insects and fish, you can also donate fossils to the museum for exhibition purposes. When you come across an unusual hole, dig it up and bring what you find to the director for appraisal. Other than fossils, there are plenty of earthworks or junk to dig up, but they can also be used for other purposes such as fishing bait.

Some character notes and episode notes for HZ042, writing them down for future reference.
Liko and Roy spend some time at the beach with Landau. Meanwhile, Friede and Murdock go shopping together for a barbecue (thus depriving us of seeing shirtless Friede, greatest tragedy of the show etc). Murdock was being thoughtful there too, praising Mollie and Orio for their hard work (and how they deserve a treat once in a while), advising Liko and Roy not to wander too far off on their own (which I like, how they keep stressing the fact that the kids have to be watched over), and encouraging Roy to play a lot so he can work up an appetite.
Liko invited Dot to come with her to the sea, but Dot declined (and explained her reasoning too). It's nice how they keep showing that Dot is okay with some things, but not with others. In ep 27, she participated in the curry with everyone, but in ep 34, she didn't want to attend the party and participated in her own way (making the video for Diana). Later on, she was okay with going out shopping (ep 39) and even told her mom that she started enjoying the outside world but it doesn't mean she is suddenly okay with going to the beach. Yet, she attended the barbecue at the end because she is learning to enjoy food more and more. She has her boundaries, and everyone is accepting of them. It's all good.
Liko and Roy and their Pokemon play around a lot too. Nyahoja is always doing her thing, like running around and interacting with other Pokemon, she even played with Landau too. I feel like it's possibly the first time we saw Nyahoja being close to anyone else than Liko as she usually doesn't accept just anyone in her space. She is opening up. Hogator is also enjoying time on a float (and the sunglasses from ep 37 came back).
Liko and Roy meet Irukaman after he saves someone. Some group of snap kids want to take pictures of Namiiruka's transformation sequence as no one has ever seen it before. Liko thinks about how she doesn't mind not seeing it and guesses that if no one has ever seen the transformation sequence, it's probably because Irukaman doesn't want anyone to see it and she wouldn't feel right trying to see it in this case. She understands Irukaman's feelings (who can sense Liko's thoughts too) and the way it wants privacy. Liko was really good this ep (her empathy was highlighted, and I felt she had fun tsukkomi moments, I like when characters like her have these kinds of moments).
Ensues a whole sequence explaining the way Irukaman works after the latter saves Hogator from drowning as he was washed away on his float. It clarifies things about the Pokemon, and shows how Irukaman goes on about saving people during the day (some random CoTD he saved was voiced by Ootani Ikue, I think, the voice was similar to Shouta's). The snap kids once again lament the fact they can't catch the transformation sequence, and decide to make (fake) trouble so Irukaman could show up to save them.
Back in the ship, Dot is reading some messages from her fans and wonders what could possibly be fun about the sea. Someone asks her if she knows about the hero of the seas, and Dot thinks about Irukaman (though the person who asked wasn't referring to the Pokemon, but someone else). Dot seemed to think that Irukaman's Mighty Forme is cool, and I kind of appreciate seeing these sides of her a bit more. During chapter 1, when it came to Nanjamo, she was acting more as an equal to her as they were both streamers (even though she wanted to catch up to her in terms of popularity), but I feel like HZ041 and this episode shows that Dot also has people or Pokemon she admires, just like Liko and Roy (she was embarassed about Nanjamo reading her message, and she openly says Irukaman is cool). Roy also admires heroes, and Liko is a Gurumin fan, etc.
Back to the snap kids, the one who pretended to be in danger actually ended up being in danger and asked for help. Irukaman didn't want to transform as the snap kids were ready to take pictures of it, but Liko took action (encouraged by Nyahoja) and used Magical Leaf to distract them so it allowed Irukaman to transform without anyone looking. Though, Liko's actions earned his trust and Irukaman decided to transform in front of her (making Liko the only person who has seen the transformation sequence).
Irukaman struggles against the Gakegani, and the one coming to his rescue is none other than Landau... who also has a secret form, Mighty G (feels like it's a nod to All Might, especially since Landau's hero form has a time limit too). Landau casually revealed that he has another Pokemon (which makes me wonder if he has any other Pokemon, he initially didn't mention anything about Nuoh until HZ011 back in chapter 1) and saves the day with a deadly hug to calm the Gakegani down. Honestly, the whole scene was funny and gave me both Precure and Sun and Moon vibes (Precure because cheering on Irukaman to give him strength is just like the whole "Precure, do your best" cheers that help the characters, and Sun and Moon because the specific style change for Landau and the crack tones reminded me of the humor in that series.. specifically the baseball episode. Anything reminding me of SM is good.)
After everything is solved, Liko and Roy talk to the snap kids. Roy kind of "scolds" them for lying about being in danger and they promise not to try to see Irukaman's transformation sequence anymore. Liko tells Nyahoja that they should keep the fact that they saw the transformation sequence a secret. Liko and Roy go back to Landau whose back is hurting (the only thing stopping this grandpa is back problems, honestly ww). They tell him about Irukaman and Mighty G and wonder if they'll see Mighty G again. Roy is certain they will, which makes Landau think his secret was out (I wonder if Roy has suspicions though, since he already guessed Dot was Gurumin before). Liko and Roy don't suspect anything though. Nyahoja might have guessed since she kept staring at Landau.
At the end, Roy is showing Friede the pictures the snap kids shared with him. As they look through them, Landau notices a strange building in one of the pictures and the swim trunks guy explains that a bunch of suspicious people recently put that in, which makes Friede suspect it's connected to the Explorers.
This episode was the second one written by Kimiko Ueno, btw (first ep she wrote was HZ037).

Persona Q2 Special Talk Show
First off, THANK YOU Atlus for uploading an HQ version of this little event on their channel because the one on Periscope was so LQ.
The participants in this talk show are voice actor/actresses Fukuyama Jun (P5 Protagonist), Ootani Ikue (P5 Morgana), Inoue Marina (P3P Female Protagonist), Koshimizu Ami (P4 Amagi Yukiko), and PQ2 producer Kanada Daisuke.
I'm not going to translate the whole thing but here are some of the highlights of this event:
- First of, everyone speaking in their characters' voice (Hamko and Akiko imitating Joker's "Hm!" 😂).
- While the game trailer was showing, Inoue said that "P5 characters are so... unique." and Fukuyama's like "Yup we are."
- Kanada said that the game was designed to be a bit more 'retro'.
- Fukuyama and Inoue talked about how their voice recording went. Four of the protagonists don't have many lines like other characters, but they have a lot of “Hah!” “Hm!”, and they have to shout at least 300 persona names.
- Kanada said that the reason they decided to add P3P Female Protagonist is because a year and a half ago, he saw a P3P Female Protagonist drawn by a fan during the 20th Anniversary Persona series event, so he talked to the staff and they ok'ed the decision.
- Inoue said that it's her first time in 9 years (or if you also count the year she recorded her lines, 10 YEARS) to voice P3P Female Protagonist, but it doesn't feel that long to her because there were also stage plays. (Well it feels like ETERNITY for us fans!!!!!)
- They showed a scene where the P3 Protagonist and the P3P Female Protagonist meet for the first time! Kanada also said that this scene is very important to the story.
- The first PQ theme was "a meeting can change a person", but in PQ2, the theme is "a meeting can make a person stronger".
- They did a bokosuka generator, where each of the voice actor/actresses have to shout the line of a character they get.
- Fukuyama got P4 Protagonist, Koshimizu got Morgana, Ootani got Ryuji, and Inoue got Ann.
- When they thanked the audience, Inoue almost slipped the name "Hamko" (which is not an official name) and was like 'Oops I wasn’t supposed to say that'. 😂
- Kanada said that PQ2 is going to be the last 3DS game Atlus makes. Meaning that if they ever decide to make another sequel, it would probably be on Switch or other console.
...and that’s pretty much it! Thank you to lovely @fourzeikouze as always for checking my grammars. <3
