I have this thought for quite some time, coming mostly from my twitter and Reddit interactions.

I kinda love the amount of hate I see towards Buggy. People hate how Oda loves this clown and keeps bringing him up, how he is getting more connections to story, how he gets that high bounty. They hate him because he doesn’t have powers, or isn’t smart.

And the fact that so many of them try to cope by putting Mihawk in place of Buggy is incredible. Mihawk is not some lost friend who is having insanely deep contention to shanks, BUGGY IS.

But I guess he’s not “cool and powerful” enough and they don’t get why shanks could be friends with “someone like that” (actual take I saw a lot).

I can’t wait for buggy to be more important just to see everyone lose their minds. If he gets to laugh tale, the best day of my life. And I’m not even that big on Buggy

These takes make me so angry because they're just??? Not true at all??? Most of these opinions come from the general audience and dudebros who don't take the time to analyze Buggy and just accept his character the way other characters see him. Instead of stopping for a second and thinking about why he does what he does and why Oda likes him so much, they just assume he's the lame clown everyone in the OP world thinks he is. Saying Buggy isn't smart is uhhh. It's just not true. I'd be scared af if I had gone through all the things he has, honestly. Like- People- People just ignore Water 7 and the whole thing with Usopp being a coward but wanting to be more than that because of his dream and that being scared doesn't necessarily mean something bad??? I think people just forget entire arcs and scenes to post these things. Buggy might not be the bravest but he understands the pirate world better than anybody and he's genuinely smart, he's just constantly placed in situations that force his character to be scared af (for obvious reasons) and everyone looks down on him for that. Which makes total sense for his character because his whole thing is feeling inferior and being compared to others when he has many talents himself. He isn't dumb, he just has the worst luck in the whole fucking world. Or the best. It sort of depends.

I think he lost his bravery and sense of adventure when he gave up on his dream, but now that he's being more confident in the fact that he could achieve it, we will see him using his full potential. And I am so, so excited for that. The speech he gives in chapter 1082 changed my life and it's easily my favorite chapter from the whole manga. I really, really hope they do something with that. I want him to have all the wonderful scenes he deserves.

And, okay, about the Mihawk thing: I don't agree with that that much? Like, okay, I can see people often making Mishanks relationship more than what it actually is, but tbf, Mihawk is barely a character here because Oda hasn't given him screentime of his own. He's always there for another character (Shanks, Zoro, Cross guild, etc). What we do know about him is that he went all his way to find Shanks and tell him about Luffy?? Like. Okay, babe, I know what you are. What we do know is that Shanks and him have something going on and I would really like to know WHAT exactly. I'm not even a huge Mishanks shipper but I completely understand why people like it. I prefer other ships like Shuggy and Cross Guild but, well, I don't think they use Mihawk to take over Buggy's place. I think they just want Mihawk to have some story because Oda barely gives him one. But I can see where you're coming from, though. I can see a lot of people using Shuggy's dynamic for them sometimes and it bothers me because these two have their own thing and they could easily just?? Ship both things??

People saying they don't understand why Shanks would be friends with somebody like Buggy is so funny to me, because we barely know anything about Shanks either, lmfao. He's the cool and powerful role model of the main character. He's literally the most cliché thing in the whole wide world, shut up. And I absolutely love him and he has wayyy more personality than these types of characters usually have, but I am tired of seeing takes like this as if Buggy wasn't one of the most interesting characters in this manga. But, also, Shanks would just?? Kick these people's asses for this shit. Saying you don't understand why Shanks would be friends with Buggy is just admitting you think the same way people in-world think about him, which is just admitting you don't understand his character. At least people in-world think that way because they don't know Buggy's story. You know Buggy's story. You should know why Shanks is friends with him and cares so much about him. But also?? Even if Buggy truly was a fucking loser with no talent and no dreams. Saying Shanks needs a reason for being friends with him is so dumb. Have you considered that... Sometimes... Most of the time... People don't have a reason for being friends with somebody and you don't need to find a reason for somebody's love?? Like- Perhaps Shanks just fucking loves Buggy because that's his childhood friend and he doesn't care about his abilities or talents. Perhaps he just loves him for who he is. I don't think it's that hard to understand, honestly.

You're not that big on Buggy, but I am. I really am. He's probably getting a tragic ending with Shanks but I do not care. If he ever gets to Laugh Tale or- Or if he ends up believing in himself finally. If he gets closure with him (which he will get, because Oda loves these two too much to leave them without closure). I will be the happiest person in the whole world. My mind and body say "Luffy king of the pirates!!" but my heart cries of happiness every time I think about Buggy being the king. “Okay, but the hunters are coming here.  What are we going to do about the ghosts then?  Even if we convince them they’re all in costume, they’re too good as costumes!  It would be too cool!”

“I think you’re still overestimating the coolness of costumes,” said Tucker.  “It’s an easy mistake to make, I know I–”

“Miss Fenton?  Jasmine?  Oh, there you are,” said Mr. Lancer, sounding relieved.  “No one had seen you since you went to talk to the ghosts, and– What’s wrong?”

[Video starts, showing a crowd of people of various ages in a school cafeteria.  Most of the people are either children or middle aged.  There are several people sitting at the front of the room.  Static obscures many of their features, but they all appear to be glowing and have odd skin tones.  The video is shaky.

WOMAN #1: Damn, I should have gotten a better camera, this one is spazzing out.  But the phone one is bad, too…

The angle of the camera changes slightly, and shows a low-angle profile of a woman.

WOMAN #2: Bought it out of town?

A door in the corner of the cafeteria opens, and the camera turns towards them.  A group of teenagers comes out.  One of them, a girl with long red hair and a large amount of flour on her shirt, is carrying a megaphone.  

TEENAGER: Hello, Amity Park!  I know you’re looking forward to cake, but we have an additional surprise for you all.  This is now a costume party!  The drama class will be bringing you your costumes shortly.  Thank you for cooperating and making this Community Cake Day a success.

The teenager lowers the microphone, and joins the other teenagers, who have started swarming the glowing people.

WOMAN #2: When was the last time you checked the forums?

Danny dropped through the ceiling into the bathroom and transformed.  He pulled back on the fake hazmat and grimaced as he noticed a tear.  Maybe he could– Could he do a partial?  He’d never done a partial like that before on purpose–

“There you are!” shouted Jazz.  

“Oh gosh,” said Danny.  “This is the boy’s ba–”

“That doesn’t matter!  Come on!”

“But there’s a tear–”

Jazz shrieked in frustration and shoved a fake Danny Phantom top at him.  The gloves and belt were sewn on, and it looked very crooked.  

“Where did this even come from?” he whispered.  “Did you make this?”

“No, there were about fifty of them backstage of the theater, but no one fit this one.  It’s too small.”

Danny, who had gotten it on over his head with no effort, glared at her, but then the rest of her words sank in.  “Fifty?  Why does the drama class have fifty of these?”

“I don’t want to know, do you?  If it makes you feel better, it was right next to the surplus Ember stuff.”

It did not make Danny feel better.  

Even so, he let Jazz continue to herd him into the cafeteria and then sit him between Lunch Lady (dusted in flour and looking very pleased with herself) and Kitty, which was really unfair, he thought.  At least it wasn’t between Spectra and Skulker.  

“Jazz,” said Danny, eyeing the cafeteria.  “Do you want to tell me the plan, now?”

“I would also like to know the plan,” said Kitty, who was currently wearing cat ears and badly done facepaint.

“You’re all just people dressing up as ghosts,” said Jazz, “like mascots.  Because it will get you free cake.  Danny, you’re not the same person they ran into earlier, got it?  You’re someone different.”

Danny definitely needed a few quiet minutes to process all this, but it almost, sort of, kind of, made sense.  “We’re making them think everyone is a fake.  Just more fake ghosts.  Not even original fake ghosts.”

“Yeah,” said Jazz.

“But– But what about Mom and Dad?  You know what they’re like.”

“Don’t worry about it,” said Jazz.  

“I’m worrying about it.”

“Don’t.”

“I’m worrying about it, too, actually,” said Sam, who sounded very out of breath.  “Any of you guys seen Val and Dani yet?”

“No,” said Danny.  They must still be at the hospital.

“Listen,” said Jazz, “someone else will take care of it.  You just sit here and eat cake.”

“Isn’t that what Marie Antoinette said?” asked Danny.  

Jazz made a face.  “You really do only know the one historical quote, don’t you?”

“Heh, she’s got you there,” said Kitty.  

“And you do need to eat more,” said Lunch Lady, pinching his cheek.

“Fine,” said Danny, “but don’t blame me when things go wrong with whatever you’re planning!”

So I finished The Earth is Online.

Lemme start by saying that I started this novel because a lot of ORV fans were saying that the MCs were similar and also their relationship was similar, let me say that this is all bullshit. The two MCs from The Earth is Online and the two MCs from ORV are completely different. They aren't even close to being the same in the slightest. Unless people think that smart people = all similar. So if someone tells you to read this novel cuz it is "similar" to ORV then you'll be highly disappointed.

With that out of the way The Earth is Online was great and a very fun read!

Tang Mo is a very easy-to-follow MC and the kind of guy that doesn't like dealing with bullshit. He is here to do one thing and one thing only: Survive. And he does this very well and in very entertaining ways. He isn't the kind of guy that likes to fuck around unless he's fucking someone over. He is also very serious most of the time and is only playful once he gets into a relationship with Fu Wendou. Without a doubt, he is following the stoic-cold and logical MC trope and I think he fills that role extremely well.

Fu Wendou is a cool and powerful ML and the secondary MC. He is calculating, smart, and very powerful. He is without a doubt busted, OP, and the one that highlights the MC Golden Halo the most, sometimes more than Tang MO. He is very tactical due to his military background but he also has an awkward fun side to him in which he likes to tell jokes but no one ever gets them or seems to understand that he is trying to joke. He is also a stoic-cold face and logical MC but add that to the fact that he's busted.

Honestly, when I first started reading this I wasn't sure how these two were going to get together when both of them pretty much share too many character tropes to the point that they feel far too similar at times, but that's the point. The two are very similar and that's why they work so well together and know how to fulfill a role that the other might be lacking and that's because they know each other so well.

Now, I say that I wasn't sure how the two were going to get together but to be honest, that isn't the point of the novel at all. The Earth is Online might be BL but it is obviously a novel that wishes to be a story first and foremost and not a romance or a trope of the BL genre. The Earth is Online cares more about the story than any of its characters and relationships and it shows. The novel is the strongest when they are playing deadly games, or when they are fighting the tower and the bosses and to be honest, that's what I was the most hyped about.

Yeah, sure, I wanted Fu Wendou and Tang Mo to develop their relationship but midway through the novel, it was obvious that this was gonna be a deadly, and hot slow burn. In fact, the relationship between Fu Wendou and Tang Mo starts very slow, and then steps on the gas and runs off a cliff cuz as it turns out the two are already into one another and once they find out who they are, the relationship develops even faster. Fu Wendou and Tang Mo aren't romantic either, and they aren't big on words, they have a few moments here and there but nothing that's praiseworthy tbh.

But I was having the most fun when reading the games they were playing and the deadly battles and that's why you should read The Earth is Online, because the core plot is amazing. Some of this shit was too high IQ for me and my pea brain but I was still so invested that I couldn't put the book down until I was done.

A solid 9/10 as a Shonen story, and a rough 6/10 as a BL. Finally a solid 8/10 as a whole. The reason why it isn't higher is cuz of the lack of character development and also the relationships in between characters felt too fragile at times, which I understand makes sense due to the setting but it still left you feeling thirsty for some kind of development or attachment.

If you read this expecting the gay Shit Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk have got going on then no, this isn't it chief, in fact Dokja and Joonghyuk are more romantic and gayer than these two gay men.

When they call her old. It's one thing to like, call her old-er in text when she's having like, a convo with Nami, but it's another thing when they go FULL Milf mode. I think some people don't realize what 30 like, actually means? (ok maybe i have a soft spot for a milfy Robin in like, certain settings wink, but some people go overboard. 30 isn't old)

When he's reintroduced post-timeskip sitting on the forest floor meditating in front of Otohime's grave. FMI is all about reintroducing everyone, and Jinbei's such a special case because he's actually the one we've seen the most recently, but his context gets to change now that the Summit War is long in the past. It really amplifies his position as just peacekeeper really early on, and sets the tone for his character going forward. He has this capacity to be really strong, to kick ass, to get riled up (as seen by his fight with Sanji not long after this) but he needs the peaceful reintroduction. He feels like he properly seeks solace, he still holds mourning in his heart, he sits in his feelings.

Nami- 25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

Ohhhh I'm so glad you asked this one. So technically, my first impression of Nami I remember comes from 2004. I wasn't allowed to watch the 4kids dub when I was a child (misogyny kept me from catching that stray bullet), but I would see ads for it on tv and I loved loved loved Nami. If you asked me what one piece was when I was 9, I would have said its the story of a cool pirate girl and maybe some other guys are there too. One Piece, in my head was Nami's show more than it was anything else. I could pick out Nami from a lineup before I knew that the main character had stretchy powers. EB Nami sits in this pocket of 00s Beach Girlies that I looooooooved growing up (think like, KH Kairi, etc. Skorts and water shoes and a cute little haircut). Actually watching the show in my late 20's shifted my opinion (I'm obv more Robin aligned, but that's because 2000s Me didn't even KNOW what was in store. I think if me and my sister had been allowed to watch op as kids + the dub wasn't shit + merch was plentiful, my sister would have been Assigned Nami and I would have been Assigned Robin, which is a correct alignment to make.) When I actually started the show, she really captured me Orange Town through Arlong Park, I actually don't revisit AP very often because it's so emotional, OOF.

Currently, I'm having a lot of fun with Nami. She's mid Ulti fight in Wano for me rn, loved her trying to manipulate Big Mom, anxious to see how this Zeus sub plot pans out?? This Prometheus/Hera/Zeus/Nami abusive love square is currently my favorite driving conflict, it's so weird and funny to me. I'm excited to see her properly fight Ulti, I feel like she hasn't had a GREAT fight of her own wits for a while. Sometimes I wish she got to use some of her science smarts, I think they've been dulled a bit to just "weather magic" but she's really so smart. Thanks for letting me Nami ramble.

TAG MBTI

Since I got into MBTI a few months ago, I've been trying to type every single person I know - real or imaginary. There are quite a few people out there like me who like typing TV characters, but there have been very few sources out there that talk about the MBTI of the 2015 Thunderbirds Are Go series. So I thought I'd discuss my thoughts on a few more controversial (main) characters on TAG. Keep in mind that these are just my thoughts, and may not be 100% aligned with the theories. This is all in good fun.

Disclaimer: as Gordon and Alan's types are quite straightforward and widely accepted, I will not be discussing them.

Most commonly accepted types:

Scott: ENTJ/ESTP

Virgil: ISFP

John: INTP

Gordon: ESFP

Alan: ISFJ

The Hood: INTJ

Not confirmed:

Kayo: ISTP/INTJ

Starting off with Scotty. People (myself included) call him the Commander, ie. ENTJ according to the 16 Personalities website. I've done the test myself on his behalf (self-righteous me haha) and the results are quite conclusive: ENTJ. This is quite accurate, given his decisive demeanour in the field which corresponds with dominant Te. That's why I think ESTJ wouldn't be too far off either.

As for ESTP, they're known to be very spontaneous (and frankly, crazy...no offence intended!) The main reason people get this idea is because of certain episodes (High Strung) that suggest Scott was something of a 'thrill junkie' as a younger person. However, the episode also suggests he is not proud of his past and is not like that anymore (or at least tries not to be). So my conclusion is that he has grown into his role as head of IR, which requires an ENTJ personality, while suppressing the extraverted sensing which is dominant in an ESTP.

Next up, Virgil. Virg's known to be the family artist, and ISFPs are the stereotypical artists. In that sense, ISFP is pretty correct - but Virgil doesn't exactly strike me as (and I'm making a big generalisation here) a crybaby. So what are the alternatives? First, I'd agree he's mostly an introvert, though he sometimes does give off a more E energy. Next, I'd say that he could he either intuitive or sensing, and he seems like the kind of guy to come up with a plan at the scene. So I'd go so far as to say he could be an INTP. Conclusion: ISFP/INTP.

Now with Johnny, most people can agree that he's INTP. I once read somewhere that he's INFP, however, which I thought was interesting - INFPs have the stereotype of being ignored all the time, which relates to John's situation of being the guy stuck on the lonely space station and the middle child. But it doesn't feel as if he has dominant Fi, so I agree with the opinion that he's INTP. INTPs are stereotypically nerdy, and although John isn't a complete dork, he is shown to be afraid of crowds (and in general, people!) particularly in episodes such as The Man From TB5. So INTP is fair.

Kayo is an interesting case. I have found literally zero consensus on the net on Kayo's MBTI, so I have just gone ahead and typed her as ISTP/INTJ.

Kayo is, how shall we say it, very cool. Even aloof, like an ISTP, the typical lone wolf or cool guy. ISTPs also tend to have good street smarts, being very versatile quick learners. That is what makes them good candidates for being spies, or in Kayo's case, covert ops. She's formidable because of her skills, quick thinking and determination in protecting her ideals (her insisting that IR get involved in the 'bad guy catching business') - dominant Ti.

Some people also think she's an INTJ for obvious reasons. In Legacy, she reveals she has all sorts of contingency plans for Tracy Island, and even her uncle, the great mastermind, fell into her trap. That sort of scheming is very INTJ. It's probably an influence of her having the Hood as her uncle.

You could argue that Kayo is completely INTJ, and I'd say that's possible as well. The reason I've put ISTP is that some of the things she does are a bit too physical and real-world, things that typical INTJs would die from. Of course, she could be an Fi and Se developed INTJ. It depends on how you look at it.

Now finally...our favourite villain, Hoodie Guy. INTJ, the mastermind. No one can deny that the Hood is the ultimate criminal mastermind, with his scheming plots and evil smirk (!) However, there are some qualities he has that aren't exactly INTJ, which is why I'd argue that he's an INTJ/ENTJ hybrid.

First, he's very impatient. We see this in a lot of episodes, and in Signals Part 2 he even admits he was short-sighted (and therefore impatient) to have tried to commandeer a Thunderbird. That's quite unlike an INTJ, who must be patient in waiting for their plots to unfold over time. The Hood is almost too rash to be an INTJ.

Secondly, INTJs are known for being cold and calculated, and although the Hood is that, he's also very personal. And by personal I mean he gets very hung up on personal vendettas, namely the one against Jeff Tracy. INTJs don't usually put the focus on people - unless the person is merely an obstacle in the way of them getting what they want. They do not act on impulse - dominant Ni ensures that. ENTJs, however, can be 'personal'. They have vendettas, and they will use dominant Te to act even if it's not exactly wise.

Finally, he's too famous. INTJs do not thrust themselves into the spotlight as the Hood did even in the first episode - that is way too not subtle for INTJs, who work from the shadows and get what they want without anyone being the wiser. ENTJs, on the other hand, are known and feared by the world. Sound familiar?

Of course, the many cliffhangers we get informing us the Hood has gotten exactly what he planned tells us he's still an INTJ - but not entirely. Things like personality typing are never black and white, and no one is completely 100% one type or another.

Vindictus - F2P Action MMORPG & Why We Love It

Hi all, it's been a minute since Ismaire and I got to let our hair down, so I'm just gonna take a sec to share my love of Vindictus. 

I don't always talk about how a game is underrated, but man, I will stand by Nexon/DevCat's first free-to-play action MMORPG. I've heard many people put it down for how "unoptimized" this game is. I'm not a PC gamer, but I feel that with today's technology, you can definitely play this game on today's graphics standards. 

Obviously this isn't a comparison to the new Vindi in development, but I'm just impressed to see how far this MMO has come.

PaikMyungJin (left, Evie/Choi) and Ismer (right, Lann/Ismaire) make a comeback to Vindictus in 2024.

The game can overall feel pretty simple and low-graphics to some, but frankly, I just see that as the dev team being smart with their resources. The only hang-up I can think is if you have a slow internet connection, it might be a difficult game to play with others, but it's pretty solo-friendly for the first 2-3 seasons.

I'll have to do a separate post that goes into the game's history. There's so much that could be said when the game first rolled out on October 13, 2010 for the US release. Izzy and I dating coincided with us finally having a game we could play together, since a lot of console games weren't prioritizing couch co-op as much (except for Resident Evil 5-6). [[On a separate side note, I just realized where our points of influences could be traced back to about here. All the more reason why we just love some of our old fandoms...]]

The nice thing about Vindictus is that you can play it solely with a keyboard (our preferred controls), a mouse + keyboard, or a gamepad. The game is pretty versatile for people with preferences. Most of the characters respond pretty well to the keyboard controls. The few that I noticed were difficult to maneuver in combat was Kai with his bow and crossgun, and Hurk with his teide (sword + shotgun combo), more for precision reasons than anything. Ultimately, do what's comfortable for you!

Alts, alts, and more alts!

Yes, this game will make you play so many alts. And it's worth it. I find this comparable to FFXIV's multi-job branches that your WoL can unlock, but instead of it all stockpiled to one character, you have multiple MCs with various backstories and even special connections to one another! This game being so lore-heavy actually deserves to have multiple characters for the player to explore with. You'll find over time that you'll catch some things you didn't think about from your first playthrough, and it'll just hit you differently... 😭

Final thoughts:

Being a casual player, I personally can't give a testimony on how the overall MMO culture is like in Vindictus nowadays. We did have a generally good experience since we weren't the types to go ham about stat comparisons and just genuinely want to have fun. You'll likely run into cool people as long as you're a nice and polite gamer. But of course, we weren't exempt from being driven away by guild dramas, which then later caused us to have an on-and-off hiatus from the game since 2014...  (wow it's a decade already...) Just be prepared that you may get inundated with a lot of female characters in very... curvy skins. Some of the costume/outfitters come with special enhancements, and Vindictus really doesn't hide the fact that it's a rated-M game 😳🪭 Personally it does shock me, but at the same time, props to people who aren't afraid to flaunt it 😂

Because there's so much content to push through, DevCat did their due diligence in balancing the first 3 seasons of content with gear that rewarded for progressing. If you do appreciate a little bit of a challenge, though, I recommend keeping on the lowbie gear till you know you need the damage boost. And if you ever find yourself not liking the aesthetics, the game is usually good about giving you aesthetic coupons for you to "rent" through events and the AP shop. 

As far as solo/duo-ing experiences go, Izzy and I were able to catch up to Season 3 on our own. We found that we're not able to go through Redeemers currently, but I'm curious to see how well we might be able to duo the battles soon as we're properly geared from endgame :) I'm only hesitant to pug with others because we're not sure if our internet connection could handle a crowd of 2+ external connections. But then again we're working adults who pay for good speed so maybe? lol

Rambles on Transformers 7 plus the other 3 energon universe issues I was behind on

Man, these comics continue being so so good aaaaaaaaaaah. I don't have anything smart to say I'm just hype lol.

First of all SOUNWAVE SUPERIOR YEAAAH. vEry interesting development, Soundwave got to lead the Cons in Marvel too but he wasn't like your G1 Soundwave. "You kicked my Ravage" so good. He's been questioning Starscream this whole time so this was the natural development (also the summary spoiled it months ago lol) but still, it makes perfect sense. I think it'll be interesting to see a Decepticon leader who is as brutal as the rest of them but also genuinely cares. He's probably stepping down as soon as Megatron shows up, but I'm eager to see his time at the top. Very good dynamic with TC

Starscream is too iconic to be killed of for real so soon, so he's proably coming back. That's fine because this is how I like my Starscream (unhinged little shit), but if DWJ actually had the guts to off him that would be a very bold move, mis respetos.

Speaking of, I do think they need to dial a bit the introducing characters only to kill them right away, any more and it'll feel tedius. I really hope Kup isn't permadead, I like him.

Elita is glorious and perfect.

We love to see an Arcee who regrets her own adept at violence, yes. I love this idea of Magnus as her mentor, it's a good role for him, we get varied dynamics between the bots and it links her to the movie cast she was originally a part of event tho she's on Earth with the season 1 guys.

It also works to get to know other Autobots better like I said last time. Oh, and the Decepticons too! Really good they're being displayed as characters.

Like I said last time, Cliffjumper not killing Starscream is less about it being the moral choice and more about CJ as a character and introducing conflict with his relationship with Carly. She's certainly having a time. Spike is too. I am liking the children very much.

Interesting to see that Optimus apparently has Spike's memories now. If the Matrix contains the memories of all previous holders it makes sense his would be added to the bunch, I made a joke about Spike hanging with the previous Primes last month lol. Anyway, it could help to bridge OP and the Autobots to the human experience.

Ok so the rest of it

Void Rivals: The Hunter guys is Solila's brainwashed brother which is pretty cool but this series continues to be so slooow. Like, look at how much Transformers gets done per issue. The art remains great so the pacing can be forgiven to a degree but still.

Cobra Commander: Coco makes for a pretty good villian, the series does a good job selling him as eerie and disturbing

Duke: Oh my god, they really aren't doing anything to make me like Duke. Like

When the military stuff shows in TF, it feels like it's there to create parallels and bc of genre, DWJ tries to keep it vague so I'm willing to play along and let it be. I was willing to do the same for the Joe guys since it seemed they were going to become some sort of anti-Cybertronian unit, but unlike Transformers this series seems to have a genuine hard on for the US military and all the macho 'murica stuff and god... it's also by fa the weakest of the EU titles and doesn't offer anything to counter balance and keep my interest. At least Baroness is cool (and she's also right)

i’ve answered a question similar to this in the past before, but i absolutely don’t mind retreading my tracks or elaborating on stuff! i think if presented with the opportunity to go back and change or start life over again, iovitus would not take it. it seems contrary to their entire being, seeing as they’re so stuck in the past and essentially refuse to move on, but iovitus does really love the people they surround themselves with nowadays and would not have met them had they still been in the legions. they have a lot of remorse and regret for the things they did, violence they committed, people they hurt etc but, well, that’s legion life! especially considering their specialty in the legions, they’d likely continue to hurt and be hurt ‘till the end of their days. now, though, free from the shackles of the legion, iovitus can do almost anything they want – all without putting themselves and the people they care for at risk. they learned a lot after their expulsion, and ssssort of became a better person? they’re a lot nicer, that’s for sure. they still fall into their old bad habits every now and then, and continue to lie to pretty much everyone around them.. but they’re not killing other charr in the name of the blood legion or whatever anymore so thats cool i guess

 its hard to say if their life would have been for the better or worse, because they left the legions at the height of the charr civil war. if iovitus had continued to stay and fight they’d probably end up losing more and more people around them. the war doesn’t last forever, however, and iovitus’ warband wasn’t involved with any of the orders nor did they spend any time doing elder dragon shenanigans, so they’d have nothing to worry about in that sense. so, like, things would still suck while the war was ongoing but then they’d suck less after it was over. i’m not entirely sure where iovitus would have ended up if they stayed with the legions – most likely, they’d work as a free agent and refuse to join another warband for a long time till their loneliness gets the best of them. regardless, though, the love they feel for their current friends & family would hold them back from trying over!

🦊 (fox) - How intelligent is your oc? Are they a mastermind pulling all the strings? Or are they more dim-witted with a big heart? If they are smart, what do they use their intelligence for? To create? To get ahead? 

iovitus is quite intelligent! they’re not super duper book-smart, but that’s not to say they’re stupid; they’re just smarter in different ways. before they were expelled from blood legion, iovitus’ warband was a spec-ops unit that served as a sort of jack-of-all-trades, meaning they had to be very adaptive and learn things quickly. they had to think on their feet very often, modifying themselves and their situation accordingly. iovitus enjoys problem solving and thinking things over, easily imagining themselves in the places of others and figuring out how they personally would work through the issue at hand. this eagerness to resolve problems falls short when it comes to iovitus’ own personal complications, though. they’d rather just ignore them till its too much to bear or rears its ugly head, literally or otherwise. they’re also very emotionally intelligent, more so than most charr are – they can read others and respond appropriately very well, though they don’t really think of themselves as an empath (for lack of a better word), it just comes naturally. iovitus’ smarts come in hand with their current occupation as a mercenary alongside their cousin, thinking up solutions for things and proposing new ideas where others might have not. they aren’t the type to use their intelligence against people and/or manipulate them, though they do lie often. it’s not something they actively think about, it just happens. iovitus is also good at altering their behavior/personality to mold better with others, though this takes a bit longer as they’ve got to get to know the individual(s) better first. they just want people to like them :(

saboady and impel down were so fun i really enjoyed both of them! it was great to have some idiocy moments w buggy back and stuff, and yeah exactly the carousel of returning character cameos and everything was neat! saboady was just SO good and i thought the last fight w the pacifistas and kizaru and all were really good like the tension was so high in them even though i knew ultimately where everyone ended up yknow?

no same god i felt the exact same way going into marineford like. i know whats going to happen AND i dont even get to see any of the besties for emotional support?? but we soldier on !

BABYTRAPPING HELP thats so fucking funny yeah youre right its way better to phrase it like that. i loved the flashbacks soooo much like they are so cute and silly and brothers<3 ace really fully tried to kill baby luffy though it made me laugh so much like. he does nawt want you around bud, sorry!

i just finished up dressrosa, which i also really enjoyed! it drags a little towards the end for me but overall i found it really interesting and fun, maybe just bc the setting was quite cool. faves from that arc are viola and corazon i wish we got to see even more of them but obviously the arc isnt about them + theres a lot of random guys introduced in dressrosa in a sort of similar Assortment way as impel down which was exciting, like bartolomeo and cavendish who are just so fucking funny i really really enjoyed them too.

fave 'new' characters are ofc sabo and law. im such a sucker for like, 'disillusioned guy who has a shit family runs away to become a feral dude w a good heart' sort of stories so sabo is my bestie forever. also, lead pipe<3

laws abilities are soooo cool am obsessed w him + the way he is so smart and has really well laid plans...except then luffy happens is so so funny. sorry you are losing everything so badly all the time buddy</3 im really glad hes sticking around i hope he gets to have a win someday...

actually insane to think about how fast everythings moving post-ts i didnt realise it was all SO quick. like from the vague things i knew it seemed like soooo much stuff happens in terms of plot and each arc getting longer that i assumed it took a little while in the story timeline as well but thats not the case at all. i know in general the 'timeline' is very unspecific and fluid (like even just thinking about how the entire pre-ts story takes place over probably less than six months ???? is crazy to me) but i definitely feel like oh shit ok everything is just at hyperspeed now bc its all so Serious, alright !

Posting a proper review now that I’ve rewatched both parts because watching them with the gap in between didn’t stick.

So is this what it’s like to never watch Naruto and jump straight to Boruto, because that’s what I’m doing here lol Clearly I’m here because of my Ucchi/Ayu bias and I know nothing about NanaTai beforehand, so everything I know is from watching these two part movie/OVAs.

Here we go, Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh

Anyway, I was really hoping to like Tristan. His design is everything to me, with his long hair and long eyelashes, his shorts and thigh high boots combination and his little tail coat. I don’t know anything about him, so seeing that this version of him only exists in this movie has piqued my interest, I’m definitely willing to start the Four Knight of the Apocalypse eventually. 

Unfortunately I don’t think I was too big on what we were given from the movie. I mean right off the bat he sounds too OP, given that he has both Goddess and Demon blood in him and they’re both present and usable. (Like saying Maka Albarn has Weapon and Meister blood in her. Sounds fake and something a 10 year old would write.) 

I prefer the parts where he’s a kind boy and afraid of his demon blood from coming out lest he hurt someone again. But then there’s the parts where he’s pretty generic shounen, jumping into situations without thinking and hoping to put on a brave hero front. (We have to do the right thing, save people, punish the bad guy.) I don’t actually know if this OVA/movie is written by the actual author/mangaka and I don’t know if he’s any different later when he shows up in 4KoA a bit older. 

Maybe it was just the writing of the movies, or the humor of the series just never really hit with me (either it’s too shounen comedy or its just too anime) or the fact that it was CG and not 2D animation that some scenes just felt like “okay, this is happening I guess”. (The scene of Tristan jumping off his horse trying to make a grand appearance and almost landing on his face. The  fact that he announces that he almost fell on his face instead of just thinking it?)

The first half of the movie really felt like we were going on Tristan’s journey of growth but the second half of the movie felt like it became the Lancelot show. Which, I don’t think is bad because Lancelot is fun but feels just as OP, if not even more OP than Tristan. (Having blood of both his parents and being able to use it. [TBF I don’t know what Ban’s abilities are, but I guess he’s strong and I don’t know if Lancelot inherited that or not] Being able to “tame” Tristan’s demon blood in a fight. Smart and calculative but also strong enough to wield two weapons.) The movie ends with Lance walk cycle, and I guess this would be a lead in to 4KoA since I think I know he’s in the main cast so far.

I don’t know anything about the original 7 Deadly Sins (if that’s what they even call themselves, I guess??), but seeing them take on the bunch of Empties could have been cool to me if I did watch the original series. I think I would have liked what Melodias and Ban had, if their few interactions in the movie was accurate to what they were like in-series. Also I also really like Elizabeth and Diane. I don’t think they’re doing anything groundbreaking, but I do like the gentle and kind but strong queen (like how I like Princess Peach) and a giant woman. The scene of Melodias rubbing into Elizabeth after her recovery would be a reason why I would never watch the OG, but I thought it was really sweet when it transitioned into “man I love my wife”. 

Also, I’m not familiar with what the 7DS world is like, but it does feel like a generic fantasy with the few different races. If more of the series had what was in GoE with Deathpierce being racist because of things that happened to him, I would like to think that it’s not all black and white in the story. I don’t know if certain races stick to their generic personalities (Tristan’s line about fairy-form Lance not feeling like a fairy and feeling more like a human) but I hope not. 

Anyway, I came in for Ucchi/Ayu interactions and I’m glad I got the food I came here to eat, because I wasn’t actually expecting much from Tristan and Lancelot besides maybe being old friends, or their dads knew each other so we could be friends. Part one was good, some silly banter here and there and Tristan’s traumatic flashback of their fight. Part two had me sold, not only from how Lance always seems to be babysitting Tristan but also how he’s pushing him to go all out. Yeah it’s because Lance is strong, but I like that Tristan trusts him enough to stop him. Also, the movie is telling me that they’re something, so I’m taking it. I'd like to see more of them, I want to see Tristan doing something for Lance, because Lance seems too OP. Like I never for a second doubted he could get out of any of the trouble he was in.
