General Motors has, at every turn of their EV game, flubbed their naming scheme.
They started with the 1997 General Motors EV1. Kinda simple, but it became rather iconic, and nobody was doing simple names like that back then. The vehicle itself was thrown into infamy, so even though it was discontinued, repossessed, and destroyed, surely GM would want to cash in on that infamous name with their second electric car, right?
WRONG! We're calling it the 2012 Chevrolet Volt. After the electrical unit. EV2 is sooo last decade. Oh, but we're gonna keep with the theme, and in Europe it'll be called the Opel Ampera, after the ampere electric unit.
Great! So we have a few other electric units to work with. We've got the Watt (and all its prefix variants). We've got the Ohm, too. That'll be a fun naming scheme for a while. We can also always go back to calling them the EV[#] once we get back in the business of full-electric cars, right?
WRONG AGAIN! We're calling our new fully-electric car the Bolt. After lightning, cause that's cool. What? You're saying that's too close to the "Volt," and people will get them confused? Nahhhh. We'll slap "EV" on the end of the name. That way nobody will confuse them (they did and still do.) Don't worry, though, we'll make up for in Europe where we're calling the car the... Ampera-e... even though it shared zero parts with the plug-in hybrid it's named after, and "Ampera" itself was already a word jumble of ampere, but now we're bringing back the letter e, but slapping it on the end with a dash... so........ But don't worry! We'll try again. This time we'll come with even better names!
WRONG AGAIN AGAIN! We gave up. Now we're calling all of our EVs by the nameplates of our gas powered models with "EV" slapped on the end of the name, even thought the Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Silverado EV, Sierra EV, etc. share no parts or even visual similarities with their iconic gas-powered counterparts. It won't confuse consumers. (It will, and it does.) Don't worry, though! We won't mess up the name in Europe, this time, because........ we left the European market and sold Opel to Stellanis. Goodbye.

P.S. It looks good, it drives well, but there are still two very big problems here: 1) GM itself, because it has yet to prove that the Chevy Equinox is not another compliance electric car that it does not want to mass-produce and even less sold by dealerships, (Chevrolet Bolt/Opel Ampera was a huge flop in Europe and Europeans will remember for a long time how GM cheated its customers and run away from Europe); 2) primitive passion of American consumers for poor quality and uneconomically huge land yachts...!
The Chevy Equinox is definitely not a competitor to Chinese electric car manufacturers outside of the US car market. I still haven't seen anywhere, any relevant data on export plans and potential prices for this car outside USA. So, economies of scale still work in Chinese electric car manufacturers' favor because American car manufacturers try to sit on three chairs at the same time (gasoline, diesel and hybrids) and they will lose all three...! Chinese EV manufactures are pretty safe...

Srećan deseti rođendan, Ampera – Opelov prvi električni auto
-Revolucionaran: Ampera je prvi auto u novom segmentu u Evropi 2011.

Rüsselsheim, 27.2.2021.  “Ako želimo postići buduće klimatske ciljeve, udeo električnih vozila mora se znatno povećati“, kaže Opelov izvršni direktor Michael Lohscheller. Shodno tome, Opel će na tržištu imati devet elektrifikovanih vozila (EV) do kraja ove godine - od Corsa-e, Mokka-e, Zafira-e Life, Grandland X plug-in hibrida i sledeće generacije Astre, do Comba -e, Vivaro-e i Movano-e koji su laka komercijalna vozila. Do 2024. godine brend će ponuditi elektrificiranu varijantu svakog modela.
Međutim, Opel je svoj prvi doprinos povećanju prodaje EV već dao pre deset godina, 2011. godine lansiranjem Ampere - prvog električnog automobila proširenog dometa evropske marke - Opel se postavio kao pionir na putu ka električnoj mobilnosti. Revolucionarna, uglađena i praktična Ampera bila je prvo evropsko električno vozilo koje je omogućilo mobilnost „idi bilo gde u bilo koje vreme“. Kada je puštena u prodaju krajem 2011. godine, Ampera je osnovala potpuno novi segment vozila na evropskom tržištu automobila.
Uspeh: Ampera je ubedila medije, oduševila kupce i pobedila na reliju Monte Carlo
Opel Ampera je imala oduševljene kupce širom sveta. Više od 5.000 „e-pionira“ izjavilo je da su potencijalni kupci i pre nego što je automobil krenuo u prodaju.  Mediji su bili podjednako impresionirani, žiri vodećih međunarodnih novinara izabrao je Opel Amperu i njen sestrinski model Chevrolet Volt za dobitnike nagrade „Evropski automobil godine u 2012.“. Dugoročnim testom koji je iste godine započeo nemački automobilski klub ADAC, Ampera je pokazala svoju trajnost prešavši više od 200.000 km za osam godina.
Ne zadovoljavajući se samo popularnošću i nagradama, Ampera se dokazala i u konkurenciji.  2012. godine Opelovo električno vozilo proširenog dometa pobedilo je na 13. međunarodnom reliju Monte Carlo za električne automobile i alternativne pogonske sisteme. Pobedničku Amperu vozili su francuska legenda relija Bernard Darniche i Joseph Lambert, a još trojica završili su među prvih deset.
Ampera je potvrdila Opel kao lidera inovacija i odmah je postala najprodavaniji evropski električni automobil u 2012. godini, sa 6.631 jedinica i oko 21 odsto udela u evropskom segmentu električnih putničkih automobila. Vodeće tržište za EREV bila je Holandija, zatim Nemačka i Velika Britanija. Po završetku proizvodnje 2015. godine, registrovane Ampere iznosile su više od 10.000 jedinica.
Voltec električni pogon sa produžetkom dometa
Prednji točkovi Ampere su u svakom trenutku električno vođeni. Litijum-jonska baterija od 16 kWh napaja naprednu električnu pogonsku jedinicu od 111kW/150ks da bi isporučila između 40 i 80 km čistog električnog pogona sa nula emisija - u zavisnosti od terena, tehnike vožnje i temperature - kada je potpuno napunjena. Prema tadašnjim propisima za merenje potrošnje goriva i emisije CO2, Ampera je trošila 1,2l/100 km i emitovala 27 g/km CO2 kombinovano u NEDC ciklusu.
Na putu, Amperin električni pogonski sistem Voltec osigurava živahne performanse. Trenutni obrtni moment od 370Nm omogućava ubrzanje od nula do 100km/h za oko devet sekundi i maksimalnu brzinu od 161 km/h. Ampera nudi gotovo tihi električni pogon pod napajanjem iz baterije i prefinjene performanse čak i u režimu vožnje produženog dometa. Zahvaljujući inteligentnoj i praktičnoj Amperinoj mogućnosti proširenog dometa, vozači uživaju u miru jer nikada neće ostati na cedilu sa ispražnjenom baterijom.
Pored čiste baterije, domet vožnje sa nultom emisijom dovoljan je bio da zadovolji dnevne potrebe većine evropskih vozača. Ampera je takođe obezbedila ukupan domet vožnje veći od 500 kilometara zahvaljujući svom benzinskom motoru koji proširuje domet. On se bez problema uključuje u proizvodnju električne energije kada baterija dostigne minimalno stanje napunjenosti.
Električna pogonska jedinica, smeštena ispod haube uz benzinski motor, sastoji se od električnog motora, električnog generatora i seta zupčanika koji poboljšava ukupnu efikasnost smanjenjem kombinovane brzine rotacije elektromotora. Za razliku od konvencionalnog pogonskog sklopa, ne postoje stepenasti prenosnici.
U režimu proširenog dometa, koji se aktivira kad god bi baterija dostigla minimalno stanje napunjenosti, pogonska snaga generatora neprimetno se isporučuje na električnu pogonsku jedinicu. Generator pokreće visoko efikasni benzinski motor od 1,4 litra snage 63kW / 86ks.
Vozači su najčešće birali jedan od dva glavna načina vožnje: Normalni i Sport.
Režim ‘Sport’ povećava osetljivost papučice gasa. Postoje dva dodatna režima za posebne situacije u vožnji: „planinski“ režim osigurava dovoljno energije baterije za održivu vožnju alpskim putevima. Režim „Zadrži i napuni“ zadržava preostali energetski kapacitet baterija aktiviranjem benzinskog motora.
Paket baterija u obliku slova T, 198 kg, 16 kWh, postavljen je u središnji tunel vozila. Sadrži 288 litijum-jonskih baterija, konfigurisanih za optimalne performanse i trajnost. Koristi sistem za termičko upravljanje tečnošću i u to vreme je bio jedina masovno proizvedena baterija koja se mogla zagrejati ili hladiti - prva u industriji.
Ampera je isporučena sa šest metara dugačkim kablom za punjenje koji je smešten u prtljažnik. Korišćenjem utičnice od 230V / 6 ili 10A, vlasnici su mogli u potpunosti napuniti bateriju za oko devet ili pet sati i programirati vreme punjenja.
Dizajn enterijera i eksterijera: Elektrifikacija izgleda dobro
Jednako revolucionaran kao i njegov jedinstveni Voltec-ov električni pogonski sistem bio je i Amperin privlačan dizajn. Elegantan, aerodinamički efikasan stil objedinjuje kabinu koja zamenjuje konvencionalne brojčanike i merače ekranima u boji visoke rezolucije i funkcionalnošću ekrana osetljivog na dodir.
Kabina odražava revolucionarnu prirodu pogonskog sistema Ampere. Dva interaktivna ekrana u boji visoke rezolucije označavala su jedinstveni karakter automobila.
Kabina nudi sav prostor, udobnost i pogodnosti koje biste očekivali od modernog kompaktnog automobila: fleksibilnost sa pet vrata, udoban smeštaj za četiri odrasle osobe i prostor za prtljag sa podignutim / spuštenim sedištima  do 310 / 1.005 litara.
Zabavna za vožnju – šasija pravljena po evropskim zahtevima
Ampera se ponaša kao tipičan Opel. Razvili su ga Opelovi inženjeri u Russelsheimu, a njene karakteristike šasije su usavršene da zadovolje očekivanja pronicljivih kupaca.
Napredni sistem kočenja sakuplja energiju koja se stvara tokom kočenja. Omogućava maksimalno regenerativno kočenje pomoću električnog motora, puni bateriju prilikom kočenja i neometano uključuje frikcione kočnice kada se papučica jače nagazi za brzo zaustavljanje.

P.S. This test is quite important for used electric car buyers. However, it should be remembered that the Opel Ampera-e (Chevrolet Bolt) project began when the brand was still owned by GM. The charging speed of new electric cars manufactured by Stellantis, including Opel electric cars, is much better, and there are no new, more modern variants of the Ampera-e in the European electric car market...
