Consider, dickheads, how people can care about multiple things at the same time. Of varying importance, too!

Reminded about Oppy again :( I’m still sad

It’s going to get dark and quiet for a while...

Not sure how dark. Not sure for how long. But it will feel like both forever and the blink of an eye...

...Then one day something will shift. Ever so slightly, but softly. Then louder. And then closer. A little louder. A little closer. A little more louder. A little more closer. And as it gets closer the small bits of weight and darkness will slowly but surely come off...

...until all that red dirt is off to the sides. And after a few metallic clangs meet some rays of sunshine and the warmth of a new battery pack: a spark will come back. Eyes will re-open. And after a long sleep the first sight to see is a group of smiling astronauts. And a voice will say, either through radio signals or the dusty air or both: 

“Welcome back, Oppy. Sorry it took us so long.”

I will never ever completely stop mourning Opportunity the Mars River. (Same way I refuse to stop mourning Grape kin the penguin.

I might not of had a huge interest in NASA but the fact that a robot had final words “My Battery is low, and it’s getting dark” sound like on their deathbed pleading not to die absolutely wreaks me.

My battery is low... 

Today, a collection of cameras and steel was pronounced dead. She sang to celebrate herself, survived a marathon of miles, shared, and showed her redburned hollow home. We gave her iron claws to drag along a planet's spine, and when, one morning, the sensors would not wake, we shouted out a thousandfold: 'Are you okay?'

To no response.

She had a name. Between hurricanes and stars, we tend to love what kills or dies, ripping up our teddybears in Sunday morning rooms till stuffing snows and tickles throats, brings water to our eyes.

Stuck on an arbitrary globe, we compose 'Space Oddity'. Dream of escape, at least embrace the ache of rust she cannot feel. There is both humor and humanity in loss.

She might be us. Cross-winded, heading straight into the dust. We weave the trails into a 'why', frantic scramble metaphors, and with our scraped up hands, mold her dying code into a poem.
