The thing about revision, for me, is that it's difficult to get into. I need certain music that suits my subconscious mood, something that's enough to keep me interested - and yet, something that wouldn't distract me. Sometimes it's classical music, sometimes it's something upbeat, sometimes it's something hypnotic, electric. It's like my mind is doing many things all at once - there's a part that focuses on the rhythm of the music, another part that drifts along with the tune; then you have another part of the mind that processes what I'm reading, combines it with what I already know, then consolidates it by putting everything into perspective and linking everything together. Imagine a web of neurones, and everything lighting up at once. A cascade of connections - and all of a sudden, everything makes sense. That's the best bit about learning: putting pieces of the puzzle together, fitting them in the right place; and voilà, the bigger picture.

The thing with revision, is that I need to be in the mood to do it - but unfortunately, that impulse rarely arises. It's probably a subconscious reluctance; the horror of having to face an enormous pile of work, the trepidation of having to learn everything and retain the information. But when I do get into the mood, it's like getting into the 'zone', so to speak; where learning is efficient, and recall is as easy as breathing.
