The thing that fascinates me the most about Harrow Nova aus is that it assumes Harrow would still love the Ninth House just as much if she weren't the Reverend Daughter. But would she, really?

What if a Harrow who was raised only knowing parents who committed genocide to create her and then rejected her so fully because their "sacrifice" was wasted, resented the Ninth that eats its own for tradition?

What if Gideon, a lonely orphan from an unknown origin, grows up to love the house who graciously promoted a foundling to princess?

What if Harrow and Gideon traded not just roles as cavalier and necromancer, but their attitude towards their home as well?

Hey, anyone else think it's super duper suspicious that the Reverend Parents kicked off their abominable baby scheme pretty much simultaneously to Gideon Nav, key to the Tomb, landing on the Ninth? Gideon's more than a year but less than two years older than Harrow. So give it nine months gestation, a few months for prep and planning, and Gideon's arrival lands at exactly the place on the timeline you'd look for an inciting event to the creche massacre

And like, the Revs didn't seem shocked when they heard Harrow had opened the Tomb. They listened solemnly to Gideon spill the beans and then quietly shuffled themselves off the mortal coil, intending to take their pint sized single-serving generation with them. As far as we know they never pressured Harrow to continue the Ninth, either. They checked to make sure she was a powerful necromancer, and that was it. It's almost like they'd been waiting for this.

It's just a hell of a lot of coincidences piling up. Makes me wonder what they knew, who they'd been talking to. How much didn't they tell Harrow?

Gideon’s greatest appeal is that she’s so hot, right? She’s a tall, buff woman with a easy smile who’s the best at what she does and she also loves getting bossed around. She literally wants a woman that will tell her what to do and be appreciative of that.

Despite that she has NO GAME. Zero. Zip. None. She couldn’t seduce a woman if she actually tried too. If a real woman walked up to her and flirted she would blue screen, get freaked out and walk away. The fact that Harrow is obsessed with her is hilarious if only because Harrow has so much game despite everyone saying she’s a wet rat.

every time I re read GtN I am caught off guard by how serious it is

Like, Gideon spends the first few pages checking everywhere for possibilities for Harrow's skeletons to ambush her. And then she nonchalantly tells Aiglamene that Harrow would do literally anything to hurt her.

You don't really notice it the first time around because of the lighthearted way it's written, but when you know the context for all of it, it becomes uncomfortably clear how intense and dangerous the situation is that Gideon tries so thoroughly to avoid here.

Paranoid Harrow has successfully kept her dark secret of terrible eyesight from Griddle for years. Until she ran out of contacts (or simply forgot them) in the chaos of Canaan house. Gideon cannot unsee the googly eyes.

Ortus' murder from the point of view of Harrow the Ninth is like. So turns out Crux isn't just Harrow's seneschal, he's her nurse. He was her touchstone for reality for years, the person she turned to to ask "did that really happen?" or "is that real?". And he lied to her.

She didn't believe him, about Ortus. He didn't succeed at pulling that one over on her, but he tried. Which kind of makes you question how many times he might have tried it before, and how many times he wasn't caught.
