i remember back when i was started off in the magical girl fandom- particularly the madoka fandom - the gaandus over at magicalgirlfanproblems were trying to gaslight people into thinking that madohomu is the most toxic and abusive ship ever and if you like them or even homura, then you're just as bad as an actual abuser.
but now that i've grown up and am into more media i have to say - bitch madohomu is the TAMEST "toxic yuri" out there. i hope none of you who screamed abuse because of rebellion's ending never get into revue starlight or avemygo. y'all would be sent into cardiac arrest when you're exposed to kuromaya or like.. any of the ave mujica ships. compared to all those, madohomu seems healthy. hatsune misumi from ave mujica makes homura look like a well adjusted character.

I really love the way DID is depicted in AveMuji because I've been thinking about it and I don't think I've ever seen it handled better than this in any other media? Not in any that explicitly say a character has DID, at least--a lot of my plural faves are mostly accidental representation (ex. Rumi JRWI, Dirk Strider). I'll try to split this up to make it more easily readable because I'm the ramblerrrr.
There is a bit of a setback in that they refer to her as having a "split personality" rather than saying "dissociative identity", but I'm pleasantly surprised that, even if it wasn't purposeful that they did, they got so many of the details right.
Mortis is formed or defined with a specific job in mind, to keep the band together and protect Mutsumi, and when she's fronting, they describe Mutsumi as being "asleep" while she's not near the 'control setup'. There is a headspace that they depict more than once with representations of both Mutsumi and Mortis (Mortis is always in her AveMuji costume because her personality is based entirely around the band, around her character, around acting--Mutsumi is represented as a little plush doll of herself, which probably has implications surrounding her feelings about having a lack of control or autonomy), within this headspace they show how memories are shared between them, on the TVs.
All of their friends are surprisingly chill about the fact that there are two people within Mutsumi and get a grasp of how to distinguish between the two. Some of them are dicks about it (cough NYAMU) but in a way that still acknowledges that they're not both "Mutsumi" and are distinct. I thought the whole bit with Raana was a little funny where she just... knew that Mortis was fronting even though I'm pretty sure they've never fucking met before? She literally just points at her and goes "there are two people in there." and then walks away.
They also show that Mutsumi has a front trigger; she's afraid of performing, especially singing, so when she sees Raana fucking shredding the hell out of the guitar, Mortis is briefly pushed back.
The episode where AveMuji announced their disbandment (I think it was 5?) when Mortis vents out her feelings to Saki and straight up tells her she hates her to her face because of what she did to hurt Mutsumi was so fucking good. And I think it's cool that they provide an explicit traumatic moment that caused Mortis to define herself. I don't know, I'm impressed by the way they present DID to the audience. It's not demonized or anything, you're supposed to empathize with her; there are moments where Mortis and Mutsumi fight for control and argue amongst themselves out loud in public, but they show the way people respond to it (fearful, recording her like it's a spectacle and posting it to YouTube and Twitter) as being cruel. It's a really humanizing depiction of mental illness that I genuinely don't think I've seen before.

avemuji watchers really do not understand that like. the writers don't necessarily want us to think that the aunt/niece reveal is like. a good or healthy thing???? Or like, ANY of "uika's" behavior up until this point???? just bc the narrative is currently centered on her doesnt mean she's like. meant to be a 'good' or 'healthy' person.

I would just like to say, to any avemuji/bandori fans that struggle with moral scrupulosity or engaging with media that has/alludes to problematic elements;
You are not a bad person for enjoying said media. You are not a bad person if you don’t feel any particular way about something having problematic elements.
Obviously if it makes you really uncomfortable please take a step back and do what you need to do to make yourself feel better (blacklist tags, log off, etc.), but don’t feel like you have to completely purge yourself of something that you find entertaining/comforting just because something in it is a bit unsavory. All types of media and art dabble with darker themes.
You’re not a bad person for being interested in things, I promise.

One thing about avemuji ep 11 I haven’t seen anyone talking about yet is how (if her story IS at least partially true) Hatsune’s obsession with Saki started because she had everything she didn’t have:
She was a legitimate child of their family and thus had her existence accepted and loved, at the same age as her also
She was happy, rich, had a loving family and a healthy childhood
She was allowed to be close to her family (while Hatsune grew up hearing about how she was a secret, not supposed to exist, was prohibited from getting any closer to her other side of the family, and especially from that random girl her age for no reason she knew of)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like yeah I did ship them at the start but if we put the ship aside for a moment to think about what this episode brought to the table, there’s SO MUCH to think about yk?
Whether you think her obsession is love, platonic or whatever (personally, I think it is limerence, in the platonic way just bc limerence can get that crazy without being romantic, but I do get where yall are coming from if you think it’s inherently romantic)
What intrigues me the most is that it didn’t start all that emotionally attached, it was mostly the forbidden factor. The fact that she wasn’t allowed to meet this one girl who had everything she didn’t, and I’m damn sure it could even be the start of this forbidden “love” also, attraction for what is forbidden even though she hates herself for feeling that way
Tumblr media
But then she actually got to learn about Sakiko through Uika (if Uika exists), she learnt that she was kind and liked adventure, liked catching bugs, didn’t bother making friends with a lower class girl, and ultimately, she met her herself and became human for the first time because of her…
Tumblr media
That tells me so much about how it started, how it progressed and how it got this bad, you know? And damn I think it is intriguing, definitely not romantic bc I really don’t think they’re romanticizing any of it, but like… That’s kinda how mental illnesses work
As a neurodivergent myself, I really appreciate how they’re picking the taboo aspects of mental illness and portraying them through these characters. Especially Hatsune, who’s clearly shown multiple times to feel so much shame for how she feels
I’m soooo damn sure she doesn’t want to feel that way for someone she’s been prohibited to meet all her life, much less her niece, knowing she’s her niece 😭😭😭😭 she knows it’s wrong, and super embarrassing, she freaked out when Nyamu sent that message, she got scared by her own intrusive thought of killing Saki’s bff just because of her possessiveness, she’s scared of herself!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is also why I think she may be exaggerating, especially those aspects of her story that paint her as the villain yk? She can’t see herself as anything less than the evil villain so she makes up excuses as to why she’s guilty for everything, and damn that’s so real of her you knowwww 😭😭😭😭
Like I mentioned though, I ship uisaki more platonically right now LOL I really wish they could develop a more real friendship going forward, the relationship they have right now is purely on Hatsune’s head, a fantasy, and Saki is painfully aware and uncomfortable by this at this point
But like Saki showed in this episode, she still cares about her and is worried about whatever is going on, so I really don’t think their potential is lost already 😔 they definitely need to start as friends and with Hatsune growing out of her limerent obsession though

avemuji 13…… i think the juxtaposition with mygo really puts into focus that ep 12 was intentionally not a satisfying ending. they did not fix any of their problems: mutsumi and mortis are still existentially afraid, nyamu is plagued by insecurity, umiri cant earn anyone’s trust; and worst of all are uika and sakiko. i was right: sakiko’s response of “lets forget it all” was not reciprocation, it wasn’t domestic bliss, it was a bid to control her own destiny by locking them all together in hatred forever and ever

avemuji 11 spoilers!!
(this is just some stupid rant post with my opinions about it)
following avemuji 11 i think it’s really funny that the uisaki (hatsaki?) fandom (and the fandom in general) is going nuts about the reveal. like guys lets all take a breath and think about this.
on the one hand, i can kind of get being mad at bushiroad for the random ass “they’re related” bit. and i suppose that them being related doesn’t change the story, so why did they make it that way? hatsune is OBSESSIVE and all they did was make the obsession "weird"/ more defined by making them related. she's obsessed with sakiko because hatsune wanted to have that same relationship with sakiko, because she was being gatekept. they mention this multiple times in the episode, if that helps.
"there was no foreshadowing to this!" idk guys. that two uika theorist got it pretty bang on like 5 episodes ago. if you come across this post i love you btw because as weird and outlandish your theory was, you were right.
as a fandom we’ve already witnessed so much in the last 10 episodes. canon DID, inferiority complexes, alcohol as a way to cope, essentially a homeless minor, stupid awful minami mori, so why is hatsune being obsessive different? because they didn't confirm your ship? oh no!
“it’s queerbaiting” i hate to break it to you but i think that people are allowed to be obsessed with something they socially shouldn’t be obsessed with without it being yuri. even though we were all pinning it to be such, it wouldn't change the plot at all. you know. the same way you're all saying that hatsune and sakiko being related doesn't change the plot. real queerbaiting was little witch academia and the anime adaptation of bloom into you.
on the other hand, bandori already has a history of a girl being obsessed with a relative (for example, the hikawa twins from ogdori) and i guess this comes as a shock to avemygo fans, but to some fans from 2017-2020? we’re surprised?
so for any of you guys still shipping uisaki, i’m right here with you all. at the end of the day, they're fictional characters. embrace your inner freak. ship uisaki.

avemygo spoilers (especially for avemuji ep 4 and beyond)
ave mujica might just be the only bandori band i dont want to get back together #tbh. not because their music is bad or anything, dont even joke, but because its so detrimental to the mental health of literally EVERYONE INVOLVED.
i cant say that about any other band that briefly split up in the animes (just ras and mygo i believe? even then ras didnt really split they just had a falling out) because they were at least SOMEWHAT beneficial to everyone. they gave their members a space. being in ave mujica is the same as being in a torture chamber and i hope they make history by being the only bandori band to fully split up (if they dont i wont be surprised or even mad, im sure theyll find a way to make it less. Hellish. i suppose)

I CAN FINALLY TALK ABOUT THE FIRST EPISODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
going to put it under the cut since not everyone has ^^ i watched the first global premiere in december so i've been sitting on this for So long
sakiko is my sweet baby who has done nothing wrong in her life and deserves only good things. her side of the story with crychic broke my heart the first time i watched it and another time today u_u she never meant to leave!!!!! she loved the band!!!!!!!!! it was somewhere she felt like she belonged, something she genuinely enjoyed being a part of. but life is not kind to my poor little meow meow.
when i watched it live the audience collective went Aww :( when she got that beer can thrown at her. very relatable, me too. i just wonder where she's going to go next.
with ave mujica unmasked, they've lost their escape. uika says that being part of avemuji is refreshing compared to her sumimi activities. aside from how her dream of being with sakiko forever has come true, it seems that avemuji and the character of doloris were important forms of escapism to her. and now because she has been unmasked, she has lost that. even if she continues playing the character of doloris, people will see her as sumimi's uika first and foremost.
this can be further seen when oblivionis and doloris take off their masks willingly: sakiko smiles despite her obvious distress and although i am not very familiar with uika's character i got a very strong sense of Fakeass Idol from her smile. very interesting.
the whispers from the audience when they're all unmasked intrigued me. aside from sakiko, they all have another identity attached to them. amoris is livestreamer nyamuchi (part of the reason why anon was interested in the concert), doloris is sumimi's uika, timoris is known as another band's umiri, and mortis is the daughter of two well known entertainers. sakiko isn't recognised as any particularly notable person to the public (likely because she is no longer affiliated with the togawa group) but of course anon and soyo are shocked by her reveal.
of everyone, mutsumi seems to be the most distressed at being unmasked. i wonder if this ties into how she has only ever been known as her parents' daughter. very excited to learn what the hell is wrong with her.
the next episode is titled "the outcome justifies the deed" which makes me 🤔 because it also seems like nyamu was proven right (that unmasking them would make even more people aware of avemuji) but we also see soyo's conflict and mutsumi's misery...... very interesting indeed.
