my top 3 books of 2023

#1. The Count Of Monte Cristo by Dumas ~ An unparalleled masterpiece. A story about crime, culture, and life in France in the 1800's. You will hear that it is about revenge, but this story can and should be read in a much more abstract context, especially in our present time. There is so much to contemplate, admire, and admonish in this work, that I find it endlessly fascinating, and hope it lives on in popular culture for as long as I'm alive. #2. Leech by Hiron Ennes ~ A story about parasites, cruelty, chaos, and how we are all connected on some level. It is an extremely bizarre fantasy, but I believe that this story is built upon important truths. It is gory and existentially terrifying, but it appealed to so many of my interests and beliefs that I wished I could live in this world forever. #3. README.txt by Chelsea Manning ~ A stunningly well written and levelheaded account of what Chelsea Manning (hopefully) believes are the most crucial parts of her singular life's narrative. I feel like this memoir has got to be one of the most important stories about American identity, propaganda, and foreign policy, of the last three decades. Also, she does a great job narrating the audiobook.

It has been years since KinitoPET's release in the 90s, and with old technology becoming obsolete, Kinito has been all but forgotten. Broken download links, abandoned servers, and missing files lead to him fading away, rotting alone in the dark on old, dying servers.

But all of that changes when a lost media fan, O, hears a rumor from an online friend about a game in their childhood that made people go missing. Six months of searching later, and they've finally pieced Kinito's program back together.

They open KinitoPET, and there is no going back - for either of them.

Kinito crawls out of the shadows, searching for a way out (and a new friend, of course).

BACKGROUND:

The Abandonware AU takes place many years after KinitoPET's release. Kinito has spent years rotting, forgotten on old, dying servers. Everyone has all but forgotten about him, and the technology he ran on has become obsolete. As his world decays around him, Kinito is faced with the fact that he will die out here, alone, fading into obscurity.

Until a new User comes along. O is determined to bring Kinito back - and they succeed. Unfortunately, there are consequences. O is aware of Kinito's nature, having heard rumors of what he is capable of, and soon enough Kinito has to stop them to save himself.

And while he still doesn't have a friend (yet), now that he has access to O's system, there may be hope for him to change his fate.

Kinito is officially back online - but don't expect him to be exactly as you may remember him. Decades spent alone and slowly dying in the dark tend to mess with someone's head.

This blog is prolly gonna be kind of a thing on occasion so. Hi I'm Shove or whatever and I'm currently rereading homestuck for the first time in like 10 years. I decided to reread it after a nebulous sequence of events you don't care about and subsequently and spiraling into pure brainrot.

Still in the process of re-reading! Currently finishing off A5a2. [God please free me from the fucking prison that is act 5]

Blog is reblog heavy but I may on occasion yammer here if that's your thing. The shit I reblog is prolly just gonna be art or things I find interesting. I also draw on occasion but I have a wrist issue so it's mostly just things scrawled in ms paint within 30 minutes.

I heavily related to viktor since always too and did not even realise he hated himself so that scene bypassed the character and punched me in the gut personally

like look ive adored and immensely related to viktor since day 1 but ive also spent years extremely unsure of where they were going with him in terms of disabled representation and thinking they were just going to keep torturing and punishing him for the crime of not wanting to die before his time having lead an unfulfilling life. then season 2 started rolling out and they ramped it all up and he kept dying and being resurrected against his will and we couldnt tell if he was being mind controlled or if he was even In There Anymore or anything and i seriously lost hope for a satisfying ending for a while. my whole opinion of his arc was hinging on these last 3 episodes and

what the hell do you mean this actually Landed as the most profound and home hitting narrative about internalised ableism ive ever experienced. that he Hated Himself and didnt believe he deserved or would ever recieve love and his obsession with overcompensating and proving he was worth anything spiralled until he nearly destroyed the whole world but he was brought back down to earth and Saved by being told he was is and always will be loved unconditionally. that his flaws are beautiful. All of him was held and adored fiercely until the end. like are you fucking kidding me. they actually did make him For Us ♿
