The Late Latin word incubus ("a nightmare induced by a demon") is derived from Latin incubō ("nightmare, what lies down on one whilst one sleeps") and further from incubāre ("to lie upon, to hatch").

About Haarlep:

First and foremost, this is a heavily headcanon based RP blog as in game we only see a few moments of Haarlep. What we do know is that Haarlep is an Incubus and he was sent to Raphael as a distraction via his father, Mephistopheles.

This blog will be following the more traditional style of Incubus, and therefore Haarlep identifies as a he/him (however, he still changes into a female glamours and will then go by she/her--depending on what his company prefers).

While Haarlep is mostly in the House of Hope, for RP sake, he is not bound to The House of Hope and can travel using the portal system inside the premises. Raphael may not like this, but he has no hold on Haarlep. Often, it is opportunistic for Raphael as he can gather more potential clients (souls).

Let it be known that there is a very sexual based relationship between Haarlep and Raphael, and that will be noted. However, Haarlep is in contract with Mephistopheles. This means he is willing to aid Tav with stealing the Orphic Hammer as his loyalty is not to Raphael. Haarlep's feelings when it comes to Raphael are... complicated, and more can be read in my headcanons tag.

Haarlep is a top. You will not have your way with him. Ever. Even if you think you do, it's a trick of charm.

Haarlep does not remember who he was before he was reborn as a fiend. My Haarlep was forged from Mephistopheles with the soul purpose of keeping tabs on Raphael.

If I am not writing with a Raphael, then I am happy to partake in writing him if the thread calls for it. There will be a constant presence of Raphael on this blog as well simply due to his ties with Haarlep (pics, gifs, artwork etc will be shared also).

Canon divergences:

If Tav has killed Raphael (and I'm not specifically writing with a Raphael), I tend to diverge from canon here in the fact that Mephistopheles did not kill Raphael when he was devoured. However, he has been imprisoned in Cania and will serve at least 9 years in said prison, stripped of his powers. Haarlep will maintain in contact with him.

General rules:

Due to the sexual nature of this character and blog, this is a 21+ blog only. Minors please DNI. You will be blocked on sight. I generally will only write with other mods who are around my age, because it will honestly make me feel very uncomfortable if you aren't.

As a canon muse, you don't have to agree with everything I write, however, it isn't an invitation to be childish about it. This is my take on Haarlep, and I will write him how he comes to me.

I will not dilute his character. Haarlep is an Incubus, you should be aware of what comes with that. Despite being a devil, Incubus lore has flipflopped when it's come to demon/fiend/devil over the years. Whilst Haarlep is a devil and lawful evil, he is highly chaotic leaning. This blog will contain manipulative themes.

Shipping will still be chemistry based despite Haarlep's enjoyment for sex. Sex doesn't mean he has feelings for someone. In saying that, he is considered to be Raphael's lover and he will please him so long as Mephistopheles orders it (and a romantic ship can absolutely stem from this depending on RP partner).

No hate/phobia/ism of any kind tolerated here.

While it's obvious that this blog will have sexual themes, the mod is a big ol ace and therefore I would actually like to build relationships and not focus entirely about just smut in threads.

I hope this doesn't come across as offensive, but I was your post about demigods celebrating greek holidays and I was really curious about it. The reason I personally never tried to write about it, was because I didn't want things to come across as offensive because I didn't know much about it. What I'm trying to say is, do you know any reliable places/sources that have accurate representation of how people would be celebrating it and where I could do some research?

I’m going to be honest, most of the sources are either based in a personal belief (not the actual representation of ancient practices and actually someone making it their own and sharing) or... very misleading.

I can recommend a few sites but again, the info isn’t fully accurate and for some is based on UPG (unverified personal gnosis-- basically meaning their personal beliefs that may or may not have any support by our writings or historical record). UPG work is totally valid, stars know I have my own, but it’s also not historical.

There isn’t a lot of information on our holidays, a lot of information was lost, and most sources are college textbook style or in books. I have access to a few but they’re fairly expensive.

A lot of sources are also conflicting, and people disagree a lot, and translations get updated and opinions change.

This calendar has a pretty comprehensive list of holidays, along with information on them if you click the holidays (open to new tabs for easy viewing). It is an Athenian based calendar, and the site as a whole is fairly good, but it’s also heavily based in the site mods UPG and thus should not be considered completely historical.

This site also has good holiday information and brings up all of them as far as I can tell, but is overall fairly vague on the holidays themselves and do it alphabetically, by the original Greek Names, rather than by date. They hold a mix of very historical and a community UPG for their stances on things. I don’t agree with a lot of what they say, but they have some good resources. They’re also Orphic (a specific branch of Hellenism) so their holidays and beliefs reflect it.

Those are the two big sites that I referenced originally, most other sources would be in books (and I am still building up my resources there). There are other sources that have information, but while these two sources have some issues, many other sites... well they’re either entirely UPG or extremely traditional to the point of insulting the more modern practices and I don’t want to link stuff to them.

Please keep in mind that unlike something like, say, Christianity, Hellenism is very personal in it’s practice and there are a lot of different ways to practice it. All of this information is helpful, but many Hellenists won’t practice them exactly as the sites say

I personally used the first link I showed you as the basis of my Heliogenna.

I should explain more about Heliogenna as well. It is a modern festival, created by Hector Lugo, here is the source of information. the reason we celebrate this modern festival is because though we know that the Ancient Greeks celebrated something around the solstice, we don’t know what. Heliogenna was created to effectively fill this slot, it honors the deities connected to light and home (Helios being the main focus) and the chthonic deities (underworld deities).

Anyways, these are the most reliable free sources I have for you, and I did extra searching as well to see if there were any other sites but no others fit my strict requirements for sourcing and general respectfulness to other practitioners.

You are welcome to send me asks for more information on anything or if you’re wondering about anything the sources say. If they don’t have the information you’re wanting, or you want to know my thoughts on the holidays please shoot me an ask or even a dm. I tend to grab second opinions from some other pagan friends when I answer those questions, or even for my own work, so you will have a variety of opinions given.

i’m in bed and i’m really thinking about light yagami especially in the you know whole orphic “light lives” au going on and about how he could go about being this new figurehead for the task force and L and everything.

so the way i approached it was him having the attention. the fame. bc light loves that shit. loves being devoted to and worshiped. but like ... it would be so obvious if hes still alive bc in reality wouldn’t kira have killed him already? anyone with a brain could put the pieces together. the task force for nothing ? a rouse to seem like it’s doing its job.

so i was thinking about maybe like ... what if he can pull it in a way to introduce this new world order? being this figure now, he has the power to say that they are accepting kira as this source of judgement. of course speculation could occur. was the task force no more? or would they be the line between the real police and kira. aka light communication with himself.

i mean, if we think about it, when the US backed out of looking for Kira in the show, what would be the reaction? Was there much? and now we can think about it in this more accepted way years in the future. the first step towards a shift to acceptance. to new laws being made world wide. agreements.

then, it begs the question i myself have thought about a lot. would light come out? see i want him to in my own like... au i personally would like that to happen. but in all actuality, would it? if a decade passes and this becomes the norm, would he seek that direct worship and fame? when he mentions having wings in the beginning of the show, it makes me think about his desire of being known as a god. and would the world figure out eventually he needs a name and a face and kill him on his throne? when would we know it is safe enough and most widely accepted? there are of course radicals. those who would die for his protection. and those who would seek to end the chaos. and if those justice seekers were government? or would the government already be changed with this coming acceptance?

or would he remain safe, quiet, a god without a face? and think about the documentation in that case. who would write his script? his transcending journey to godhood? would he want it written for generations to come? is it all worth the risk if they were still the sources to kill him? would he feel like he really is a god if his identity must remain hidden? would be really be satisfied?

it’s 2am and i’m really thinking hard on this. do NOT think these are my only questions and thoughts, this is just a taste of what i think about on the daily. just a TASTE. there’s so much more to think about .... and my fingers don’t have the strength to type it all.

About that issue I could only find an email in the Spidertangle newsletter, Sept. 16, 2007. (The old link williamjamesaustin.com/orphicsheet002.html doesn’t work anymore, of course).
