despite their duck-like bills and webbed feet, the duck-billed platypus (often known simply as the platypus) is not a bird, but a very unique mammal. this species, endemic to eastern australia, has a number of unique adaptations. they are one of only five species of mammal who lay eggs rather than give live birth. they forage for around 10-12 hours daily, primarily for small aquatic invertebrates like crayfish; they use electroreception to locate their prey. the species is also biofluorescent, turning bluish-green under UV light. male platypuses are also venomous; they have a spur on the back of their hind flippers that produces a venom that can be harmful to humans. females have a small spur, but are not venomous. these creatures are largely antisocial and as such produce few vocalizations, as they rarely communicate among their own species.
On the topic of deer, if a human or a car were to kill a deer in the Clan territory, and the cats found the carcass right afterwards (so they know it's fresh, not rotting or sick) would they eat it? Since its pretty much inconceivable that the cats could take a deer down themselves, I feel like outside forces would be the only way this scenario could occur.
It's an amusing thought to imagine a Clan just gathered around a deer carcass having an absolute feast for as long as it lasts.
It's got to have happened at some point - or at least they grabbed a bit of it for the Clan. Just tear off chunks of the thing and bring it home. Good meat oughtn't go to waste!
Are there any Clan myths that feature non-cat animals? Like stories of WindClan attempting to find a lost apprentice, and asking an eagle to search from above? Similarly, are there any noteworthy examples of times when WindClan was in a battle and another animal came to their aid? It’s been mentioned a few times but I was wondering if you’d come up with anything specific. Thank you for taking the time to answer!
Animals show up in stories all the time! It's the only place where all animals talk like "people" (read: cats), and where a good deal of -step names take their inspiration. Everything from prey to predator will be able to speak and interact with feline characters civilly. Usually, humans and insects are the exception, but there are some fables where Mernatha asks a spider to help weave a trap, or a human acts cartoonishly evil to spook kittens.
For the second question: I don't have any specific examples, but any time another animal helps WindClan, they tend to be less direct than a full-on battle. WindClan likes to be subtle about things like that, so they'll just slyly inform a weasel that hey, there's some awfully easy-to-catch cats in this territory, or huh, this other Clan sure doesn't keep track of where all their prey goes, could be easy to steal a chunk of it under their noses, hmmm, interesting. There's definitely been a time or two where an eagle got called in as an assist in an outright fight, but it's rare.
