I tried to come up with a little “spell” to write as a magic circle in the new script (still looking for a name for it, I’m open to suggestions!) and the first thing I could think of was “like to charge, reblog to cast.” So I guess you could put this inside or around another circle?
I think next time I make a circle I’ll try to connect the glyphs a little differently, so you get more of the actual circle and less of a weird lump.
I have also tried a different glyph orientation, but I liked this version better. In this one, each glyph’s “down” is toward the center of the circle. The first glyph is at the top and is upright, and the others rotate as they go around. That means that locally the glyphs read left-to-right, which is not how I’ve used them when writing them linearly.
The other possibility was to have the glyphs’ vertical axis to be the circle rather than radial lines, so a glyph on the right or left point of the circle would be upright and the local direction of reading would be top-to-bottom (as I’ve been writing them linearly). For some reason that one just looked wrong to me, though I’ve only tried it once.

Nice try Bioware, but I know the state of Southern Thedas better than you do.
First off, it matters if the Hero of Ferelden is alive or not. When the First Warden recalled all wardens, our hero knew that was a bad call and refused, finally splitting off from Weisshaupt after years of mismanagement and taking scores of wardens with them. Their presence and leadership makes all the difference, rallying southern Thedas once more against the blight. If you have only an Orlesian Warden Commander in Amaranthine they’re less inspiring, but as long as you’ve done Awakening they are a boon nonetheless. There is someone to lead the fight against the darkspawn while other focus on the Venatori.
If you 100% completed Awakenings and also Soldier’s Peak, the Ferelden wardens have never been so prepared. They’re organized, they’re outfitted and they’ve been ready for this for years. Also, if you allied with the Architect then you have scores of strange research to give you an edge.
If Merrill completed her Eluvian then she moves south once again and joins the effort. She’s managed to cleanse the blight before and she’s ready to try it again. And her knowledge of the crossroads gives the south an edge on their movement and supply lines. If Hawke’s sibling is a Warden they accompanied her.
If the Inquisitor let Briala have power in any way, the Dales become the leaders in the war against the Venatori, forming a formidable alliance with Ferelden, Orzammar and the Marches, the likes of which have never been seen. And if you completed Jaws of Hakkon then their alliances with the Avvar and Chasind are stronger than ever.
Of course, if the Inquisitor kept the Wardens around after Here Lies the Abyss then their numbers are bolstered. It may cost Wiesshaupt later, but that’s Rooks problem. And if you completed the Descent, then the Inquisitor and Warden had a much better idea of what was coming and spent ten years getting ready.
They will not be broken.
They will weather this storm.
#the warden commander will end the schism when the first warden apologizes and NO SOONER#im imagining this like me3's galactic readiness score. HoF multiplies the score by a lot. the orlesian commander only by like 2#there are so many other things to fit here as little boosts too#war table missions. red jenny stuff. watch towers in the hinterlands. allying with mages instead of conscripting#everyone from past games is either in the north helping rook or south helpin the warden. the sky's the limit follow your heart#a better age of dragons#dragon age#dragon age the veilguard#says Ser

That’s a very cool idea and looks great so far! It gave me some ideas, so I made my own—I hope you don’t mind!
It’s an alphabet arranged in syllable blocks, but I wanted the divisions between letters within the blocks and between the blocks themselves not to be too obvious. Below, the blocks are arranged vertically but I think they could also be horizontally, or maybe around the outside of a circle.
From left to right, they say magical alphabet, leads, cryptotheism, squirreled, strengths, and four syllables.
I've been playing around with creating a custom magical alphabet. As a challenge for myself, I wanted to make a script that functioned a bit like Hangul, where any English syllable could be represented as one compound glyph.
I've been using the word "Squirrelled" as my test format. It's one of the longest English syllables, with three consonant phonemes, a vowel, and three more consonant phonemes.

something fun i like thinking about with my wardens is the time they spend in-between the origin story ending and them arriving at ostagar. all of that time alone with duncan, when some are crossing all the way across fereldan to get to ostagar. if travel across lake calenhad is canonically a day's worth of time, then surely it must be a week or two's worth of travel, likely even longer, just for most of the wardens to even get to ostagar after being conscripted. what do they think about during this time? do they try to run? are they numb to it? how do they feel about duncan? much to think about
#dragon age#dao#dragon age origins#duncan#duncan dragon age#hero of ferelden#asharanni tabris#ranni HATES duncan. she blames him for not getting involved when she and the other women were kidnapped by the arl's son#and hates him even more for conscripting her. its a massive struggle for her to feel sympathy for alistair when hes mourning duncan.#and her time with duncan leaving denerim is spent largely in numb silence. she wants to go home but she cant.

And you know what? I'm glad we can't be assholes in Veilguard. Like not only would it make less sense for the hand-selected savior of the world, who was exiled from their faction specifically for being the kind of person who selflessly risks their own safety and position in order to help others, to be an abrasive douchebag, but also the writers potentially thought "if this is our last Dragon Age hurrah then we sure don't need to court the fucking bigots" and I respect the hell out of that decision.
#y'all wanna roleplay dickheads then go play a game that isn't predicated on selflessness and hope in the face of despair. it's that simple.#by apples#dragon age: the veilguard#da:tv spoilers#i maintain that the level of dickheadery is proportionate to the story and player characters#hawke and the wardens are peak Just Some Guys and the warden is literally always conscripted out of fucked circumstances#the inquisitor is the type to be trusted to behave themselves at the powderkeg conclave and then is under excruciating scutiny and danger#and can still; it must be noted; be pretty fuckin evil#but rook was specifically selected to be the kind of person who both could and WOULD jump at the chance to fight a god to protect others

Duncan is like the Miss Marple of Dragon Age - the moment he arrives at the Circle, Orzammar, Castle Cousland, the Brecilian Forest and Ostagar the world seems to go "Well, shit, I guess it's murder, death, and betrayal time."
#edit - OSTAGAR TOO#the man has the best/worst timing imaginable lmao#he manages to swoop in right before Alistair fully becomes a templar + saves Daveth from execution too#he saves literally all the origins from various grizzly fates#he also conscripts Ser Jory just as his wife gets pregnant#i have not read a Miss Marple book - I've only seen the shows - but the police need to have someone trailing that woman at all times#send her into an enemy warzone and they'll all suddenly end up killing each other in various complicated ways#“Release the Marple!” *scary chanting in the distance*#dragon age#dragon age origins#duncan dragon age

Pronouns
(see my pinned post for vocab and other grammar)
this is a method to refer to the same instance of an already existing noun.
as of now, it is a block connected to another noun using a line of slabs.
this block is treated as another instance of the noun it is connected to.

“a player damages themself” vs “a player damages another player”
these can branch out in all different kinds of directions as long as the lines of slabs are unbroken.

“a mob (being referred to multiple times)”
the block at the end can be replaced with a stair to refer to something hypothetically while it still exists in reality.

“hypothetically, player A would attack player B. In reality, player B is just perceived by player A.”

TO BE, OR NOT TO BE, that is the question: Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them? TO DIE—TO SLEEP, NO MORE; and by a sleep to say we end The heart-ache, and the thousand natural shocks That flesh is heir to: ’tis a consummation Devoutly to be wish’d. To die, to sleep. To sleep, PERCHANCE TO DREAM—ay, there’s the rub, For in that sleep of death what dreams may come, When we have shuffled off this mortal coil, Must give us pause.
I made one more change to the script since yesterday’s post. High vowels and mid vowels are swapped, so the high ones have a dot and the mid ones don’t. It looks a little cleaner that way, as the mid vowels are more common.
There are a few places where I had to make choices about spelling. The words “to” and “that” both appear in both strong and weak forms, i.e. /tu/ and /tə/, /ðæt/ and /ðɛt/ (which might also have been written as /ðət/). It’s not exactly a phonetic script—I don’t distinguish the various allophones of /t/ (hence /ðɛt/ instead of /ðɛʔ/)—but I’ve decided that I will make these distinctions when possible.
I need to figure out what to call this script so I can come up with a tag for it!

very interesting to me that if you decide to ally with the mages in dai, vivienne doesn't lose approval at the moment of picking that choice, but she DOES lose approval if you talk to her between allying with them and the attack on haven. not really sure what meaning could be behind it (my favorite guess is that she's stressed out of her mind with the arrival of fiona and the other mages and the inquisitor talking to her is an annoying distraction she doesn't need at that moment + she has to put on a show of being disapproving of their choice because otherwise she is willingly complicit which is dangerous for her), but the delay is funny to me. you don't even have to take that hit of disapproval if you just wait to talk to her at skyhold.
#it also goes the other way around– you only get her approval for conscripting the mages if you talk to her afterwards#i also like to think the delay indicates some dishonesty about how she feels about either choice. but thats maybe for another post#(<- big fan vivienne lying more to the player)#it makes sense why she would favor conscription over allying! the inquisitor openly allying with the rebel mages is dangerous for#EVERYONE involved!! including the mages themselves! not from the inquisition but from outside forces that would see allying as support for#the rebellion. and after kirkwall and the spire and the conclave and the endless fighting? that is Dangerous.#but the delay... idk. the delay feels important to me.#dragon age#dai#dragon age inquisition#vivienne#vivienne de fer#im just rambling dont mind me

replaying origins and the way mar hates duncan is so so integral to the tone of the rest of his & alistair's journey & how he feels about the wardens as a whole.
#mar /hates/ being a warden. the man tries faking his death to get out and /still/ gets dragged back#but duncan? the way he gives soris & nelaros swords and wishes them the best of luck? saying he can't get involved bc he's a warden?#absolute bullshit to mar#whether or not it's true there's part of him that wonders if duncan was testing him. or testing all 3 of them even#because duncan knew adaia. knew what she was capable of. figured she'd passed it on and is proven right when mar returns with the others#then he conscripts him on the spot.#and mar can't leave!! he tries his damndest and still he can't!!
