Had this dream that there was just... this shop for unfinished fiber arts. genuinely think we should have mandated computer literacy classes. it's genuinely fucking terrifying how many of my peers (gen z. who should be the tech, heneration, RIGHT??) don't know BASIC tech skills. This may be controversial but I think every single person should learn basic tech & Internet skills and etiquette. Everybody should know how to set up and access an email account. Everybody should know how to do library research. Everybody should know the basic principles of how computers work and basic tech terms. I am dead serious it scares me how my peers, who according to the world, should know everything about computers, don't even know how the difference between a browser and a search engine. They don't know how the technology they use works. They don't know how to troubleshoot if they have tech issues. They laugh it off and joke about it but it is genuinely bad, and it's not their fault. The system- adults assuming they should just know these things and schools not properly teaching tech literacy- have failed them. And I think this needs to be addressed and fixed

with a whimper, you pout at him. "they're holding hands... and stacking things... it's cute."

his chuckle sounds a second later as he puts your phone aside, drawing you in to cuddle with him. his hand slips into your own like its home, and you feel the chaste kiss he leaves against your neck. "how about," he says in a whisper, as though someone else could overhear, "we go look at some real otters tomorrow?"

something about that makes you tear up a little more. you think it's because you're exhausted. "really...?"

"really," he buries his face into your neck. "i'll buy you whatever plushie you want."

"i'm--" you stifle a yawn, relaxing against him. "i'm gonna hold you to it."

(he'll end up buying two anyway, pressing their faces together with a "look, they're us!" just to hear you laugh at how goofy he is.)

Apologies to the people who have sent me asks or/and have tagged me in fics etc. But I've been working six days in a row for a few weeks now plus I've got some upsetting family drama happening at the moment. Raising pups with non-releaseable surrogate otter moms in our care, like Ivy (pictured here), provides orphaned pups with the skills necessary for life back in the wild. But a successful reintroduction takes a lot more than that! A recent study looking back at 20 years of sea otter releases found that the most important factors for their success were favorable weather and ocean conditions, and low competition for resources.

The study’s results will inform future decisions about when and where to release southern sea otters to maximize their chances of survival. It also provides support for expanding our surrogacy program to other aquariums, increasing our impact on recovering wild otter populations. What an ottertunity!
