I'm actually not sure what exact month she dies in but given the context of what they do in that episode (play on the beach, walk around a garden etc.) I think it's safe to say she dies before winter. A frase de Lia fez com que ele parasse, dando uma risada inicialmente. "Uhhhh, será um fantasma?" Brincou, levantando as mãos em sua direção. Entretanto, ela parecia um pouco séria demais para brincadeiras. Os seus olhos assustados fez com que Quincy ficasse em alerta - não ao ponto de demonstrar medo, apenas olhando ao redor. "Acho que pode ter sido apenas algum bicho, Lils, nada demais." Deduziu. Não tinha ouvido nada, já que ele preenchia o silêncio entre eles, mas não seria burro ao ponto de procurar saber do barulho. "Vamos apressar os passos, já estamos perto e os dois devem estar famintos." E rapidamente deu passos mais largos, tocando gentilmente no braço de Lia, direcionando-a novamente para o caminho que trilhavam.

THE HOUSE HAD NOT been this silent in a long time.

for the past week and a half, her and her boyfriend had been locking themselves in different rooms during their free time to get together as much research as they possibly could on two very different political situations. hasan, who had an upcoming debate with the man who was a former friend and podcast cohost, and her, who had little time to prepare for the upcoming australian election before she had to fly there to cover the lead up to the count.

hasan's family hadn't been around as much since the start of last week because of it. she loved his family but there was something incredibly peaceful about the atmosphere being so silent that every shift in the air could be heard. especially when she had twenty tabs lagging out her laptop and could feel another blue screen threatening to interrupt her once again.

it was late afternoon, the sun mellowing outside the window as she lounged on her stomach across the floor of the open-space living room. the loudest thing that greeted her ears was the sudden heavy footsteps on the hardwood flooring. lost in thought as she scrolled endlessly through an article to ensure it withhold as much bias as possible, she didn't look up at hasan, not even when he stepped over her, bending slightly to scratch the top of her head in a silent greeting before sitting down next to her on the comfortable rug.

he waited for her to speak first, not wanting to break her out of her train of thought. he watched the time tick to two minutes at the top of his phone as he retweeted a post before she spoke. "hey," she lifted her head to look up at him, a warm smile bubbling to life. "how was stream?"

"same old," he said simply, tilting her chin up a little more to press a kiss to her lips. "i tried to finish as early as possible for you." he'd explained at the start of the stream that it wasn't going to be super long one because he had other commitments, namely his girlfriend, and so once he covered everything he needed to plus a few extra things, he was queueing up the outro song and turning off his camera.

"aw," she hummed, turning back to glance at her laptop again. she glanced at the time down in the corner of her screen. "did you want me to make us something to eat or . . .?"

shaking his head, hasan reached over to the coffee table that she had pushed closer to the couch earlier to grab his laptop. "ordered us your favourite already." he knew she was busy and didn't want to interrupt her, so he took the initiative to order from her favourite cafe to treat her. he had walked past her multiple times within the past couple of hours to go get food or a water refill because she didn't come in to drop off any when she got her own like she normally did due to the amount of research she was stuck under.

it meant that he knew she had not eaten much either, and they were going to be on the floor for a while until they called it quits . . . he was getting ready for it to be a long night.

"ugh," she groaned in delight, "you're a lifesaver. this is doing my fucking head in."

with each day of campaigning changing the narrative, there was so much constant work she had to do to keep up until her flight out to australia in a few days time.

"talk to me," hasan hummed, opening the lid of his laptop and typing in the password. the document that already had links and bullet point lists under subheadings already took up two pages and it wasn't even in full detail yet.

"they want me to talk about literally every party, basically," she tried not to sound like she was complaining too hard, but she was genuinely just frustrated. not at the workload — at the fact that the country was slowly turning to shit and people were genuinely falling for the lies of all the conservative parties that got far more votes than they realistically should. "there are people genuinely considering voting in the next trump and elon because they listen to the australian equivalent of fox news and do no further research, like they're straight up just ignoring the fact that peter dutton and gina rinehart are gonna fuck things up so bad, and people believe their nuclear power being cheaper bullshit." she spoke so fast she was quickly out of breath.

hasan did not know as much about australian politics so a lot of it did not stick out to him, but he gladly listened to her every time she spoke about it. the information got stored into a compartment in his brain that was labelled 'aus politics for when i need it' and it got added to every time his girlfriend mentioned anything about it. he didn't have to understand her to be attentive.

"and there's this dickhead who makes a new right-wing party every election 'cause he has too much money," she rambled on, melting under the sudden feeling of his hand tracing patterns on the skin that was exposed on her back from her shirt riding up. "guess what it's called this year."

"uh . . . trump part two?" hasan answered unsurely, partially kidding. his jaw dropped when she didn't immediately say he was wrong.

"basically," she admitted, "it's called trumpet of patriots. it sounds like a super bad meme."

that was news to him. "you're . . . not joking?"

"nope."

laughter tumbled out of him, his hand stilling on her back for a moment. "that's so unserious."

"it's basically the unserious version of the us election," she shrugged, switching to a different tab. this time, an article about how cost of living is swaying younger voters. "anyway . . . how's yours going?"

the words on the document he had open were staring holes through him. "i'm definitely mentally preparing for this shit way more than preparing notes, that's for sure." he didn't do debates because they showcase as more of an entertainment thing than an actual way to get your point across to the other party involved. he was willing to have a conversation with his former cohost and friend, but he knew how it would unfold. everyone did. it would hardly be productive, and so all mental preparation would go towards harbouring extreme levels of restraint and calamity.

her fingers hovered over the keyboard, pausing. hasan maneuvered so that he was laying stomach-down on the floor, his laptop beside hers as he got comfortable. "we both know how its gonna go down."

"uh huh."

"he's gonna talk over you, mock your stuttering, and be a child about literally everything," she easily listed off, annoyance simmering underneath at the thought of it. sometimes she sat in the armchair in the corner of the room while he streamed when she wanted to be in his presence without being on camera. she, however, would absolutely not be sitting in on that debate because she could already picture how much of a mess it would be. she planned to watch it from afar, but even then it was going to be a hard watch.

there was no denying it. hasan could only sigh. they lapsed into a comforting silence, basking in the warmth of the late afternoon sun shining through the windows. the peaceful levels of quiet were only broken by the repetitive pattern of keyboard keys echoing clicks and when kaya dug her wet nose into hasan's arm to try get attention before doing it to her other owner.

a brief cuddle session break that was lengthened when the food arrived lasted a little longer than it perhaps should have, but then it was back to scrolling through videos, social media posts and articles to compile as much as they could. hasan was interrupt her train of thought to ask "does this sound okay?" whenever necessary, and she did similar, instead asking, "is this okay enough?" because all she really needed were unbiased facts to at least try combat the problem of political presenters sharing their opinion when they shouldn't be.

it only lasted until the sun was pretty much gone and they were bathed in darkness when she shut the lid of her laptop and rolled onto him until she was laying directly on top of his back. "wanna play stardew valley?" was all she had to ask and he was closing his laptop lid and trying to stand up without her falling to the floor, research long forgotten as they booted up the xbox to play their split-screen farm.

I'm re-reading A Study in Scarlet and I can't believe how petulant, annoying and child-like Holmes is when compared to his personality in the later stories. Instead of being the noble, selfless dude who lets Scotland Yard take all the credit, in the first book he seriously considers not solving the murder because he doubts he'll be acknowledged. Peak example of character development, or a deliberate continuity error to make the public like him more?

ALSO, another change I notice is that in A Study in Scarlet, Holmes is described as being a very early riser, yet in The Hound of the Baskervilles the first line is "Mr. Sherlock Holmes, who was usually very late in the mornings, save upon those not infrequent occasions when he stayed up all night, was seated at the breakfast table."

Was Watson's first impression of Holmes just that he rose early because he'd only ever witnessed the occasions in which Holmes didn't sleep? Or did Holmes just get hit hard by his growing age?? Or, could it possibly be that this is just another example of Doyle's absolutely shocking continuity???

not really a question, but I LOVE the little staticky glitchy sound effect that you’ve been adding to the end of your videos lately!! It scratches my brain so nicely !!

This probably isn’t intentional, but I find it to be so weirdly versatile. It’s loud enough that you can tell when the audio’s ended, but not so loud that it’s startling or upsetting. In a way it sort of enhances the feelings of any given audio? Like, hearing it at the end of a comfort audio feels like a warm hug goodbye, but hearing it at the end of something like the Withered Finn audio makes it eerie and foreboding.

I’m just an audio nerd who enjoys some good sfx. You, sir, have chosen an excellent noise lol

I can't take too much credit for that, because Thoo was responsible for the specific selection! When I was giving her notes on what I was thinking for the outro video, I had three possibilities.

Complete silence.

Subtle queues, potentially with softspoken outro by character.

Gentle background music.

I think she found the perfect transition sound. It doesn't intrude, but is distinct enough that it's doesn't go unnoticed. It's a very ambiguous sound, like you've mentioned here, you can attribute a lot of different vibes to it. The big thing was just making sure it doesn't aggressively rip a listener out of the scene, because audible whiplash when you might be balls deep in imagination land is a bad time.

I'm hesitant about things like intros too, a ~10 second bump at the start wouldn't hurt anything, but I feel like it very rarely adds anything. Something that is flexible and showcase-y without being a big jerk off session would be cool. Not to double down on Marvel references today, but their intro that showcases various characters and moments as we pull out to see the big Marvel title card, with the music, is pretty fucking great in that regard. What could essentially just be nonsense (ironically I feel that way about the Star Wars helmet thing they do now, because it's entirely restricted to Droids and Helmet havers, if I recall correctly), is now an anticipatory part of the intro. The score, the visuals, all contribute to telling the story while reminding the audience that this is YOUR shit. They already know, but if it's done well enough, it builds hype. The lights are dimming, everyone has put their phones away, and the show is starting. I love digging into stuff like that and trying to figure out why it works.

I don't think my brain is big enough to come up with something quite that dope for my own stuff at the moment, but it's certainly a thought. lol

What's your favorite holiday? Or day of the year generally?

My favourite holiday...probably winter solstice? Or Lunar New Year! All workplaces let employees go home early on winter solstice so they can have dinner with their family and it's such a nice sentiment! And if there's no family to celebrate with...well...you get off work early!

Lunar New Year is similarly all about family with the added bonus of lots of food and red packets so $$$

I don't have a specific favourite day of the year but I like winter a lot since I love the cold and abhor the heat...my mama always jokes that I run the electricity bill through the roof during summer and make up for it during winter 🤪

Current progress on super secret project:

A STACK of 6"x6" panels. I think there are about...*squints* 16-18 of these. At the moment I have been completing an average of 1-2 a day.

-Two of these still need the lines completed and inked, hoping to get that done tonight or tomorrow and then I can move to the next stage, which is "coloring" (shading) them with ink

-About half of these are actually pretty simple so I'm hoping to be able to knock the shading out really fast, the other half, ehhh less simple but I'm crossing my fingers at still being able to process 1-2 a day.

-Then after that we move on to the touchup/effects, scanning, and cleaning up stages

-I can already tell some of these are a little janky but there are so many of these things I have Accepted them as part of the charm lmao

-Technically, this project is going to need an intro and outro as well (so that's 2 more panels!!) but I'm going to do those separate from this whole batch to see how I'm feeling in terms of "level of detail" 🤔

I should probably remember to take progress shots between stages. Still can't really share anything yet but it's looking cool so far! Really satisfying flipping through all these.

Miles Kane at Cavatina Hall 15th May 2024, Bielsko-Biała, Poland - concert report:

- first of all: the location was really important to me because that's where my adventure with Miles, TLSP and AM started. I got there my first job as a professional after uni, and every day for a couple of months I was walking to the office listening to Miles and the rest on shuffle 🥰

- I was so positively surprised by the turnout of fans! (the town is not very well known even for Poles, and it's not super easy to get there from every corner of the country)

- I loved how many people showed up in self-made t-shirts and jackets with 'One Man Band' caption + today date 💛

- even though the venue was seated, (mainly) the younger audience grouped an improptu crowd just next to the not-so-high stage (and I felt really old, the second seated row suited me well, haha)

- I got the exact same setlist Miles and the band played at Electric Ballroom back in February - I could complain, but hey! the reception was amazing and everyone had loads of fun (including me vibing and taking it slowly whenever I couldn't catch my breath anymore 😂)

- it looked like the people weren't really familiar with older songs/they knew only the latest record (?)

- the band were so kind to show up after the concert and sign anything they were requested, pose for any photo/selfie and chat with the fans. Miles was super kind and patient, even though he seemed quite fatigued

- I was able to hand him a gift 🤗 - a model of a car which made the town famous and you might have heard that Tom Hanks is obsessed with it (didn't take a photo as there were other fans in the queue and Miles really wanted to go to the hotel, but the toy looked like this below)

- unfortunately we didn't get a reprise/extended outro of Don't Forget Who You Are (as it's usually done on the British soil), but I get it why.

Super grateful for the gig as it was a moment for me as the history has come full circle. Dropping a few photos, videos coming tomorrow!

The setlist is not mine and I couldn't get the girl's name/IG account as she was so happy and shaking with excitement that she barely made it standing 😅 (Thanks again if you'll stumble across this by any chance!)

Hey there, everyone! Did you know that requests get priority in the queue? Thank you, anonymous friend!

This is a very cool arrangement of this track! I love the full band feel of it all, while still retaining the heart of the original. The piano adds so much here; I immediately want to draw comparisons to the Planet Wisp suite, even though this track is heavier than any of those. The bass in this one is incredible too, especially in the chorus--all those sweeps up and down the neck really add some pizzazz. In the second verse, a synth bass and more synth sounds are used, which is a nice bit of contrast in both style and in volume. The chorus goes just as furiously as it ever did, only now with more guitars, and even a little bVI-bVII reharm. The switches from half time to the blistering straight time modulate the intensity from "groovin'" to "zoomin'" in the space of a phrase. And it all ends off with a sweet little piano outro. What a cool tune!
