Greetings, it's finally the weekend and it's time to look at my choice for today's #gameoftheday, OutRun 2. Originally released in arcades in 2003 this Xbox port was released a year later in 2004. While there have been several spin-off's, ports and various other versions of the first OutRun game, this is the first true sequel in the traditional sense. This new installment stays true to the racing format set by its original 1986 predecessor, in that you get behind the wheel of Ferrari sports car with your girl in the passenger seat and navigating through 5 stages all the while racing against the clock. For the first time in the series, OutRun 2 features an official license from Ferrari so not only can you drive the ACTUAL iconic 1986 Ferrari Testarossa from the original game but there are several other Ferrari sports cars to choose from. New editions to this game are time attack modes and heart attack modes. Time attack mode is exactly how it sounds, beat the clock one stage at a time. Heart attack mode is an add-on to the standard game where your girlfriend will make special requests like drifting a certain distance, weaving by cars or staying in one lane for a certain length of time. If successful you gain heart points that fill up your girlfriend's satisfaction meter for which you are then graded on at the end of the race. This is an awesome game and it's a nice throwback to the original game. It features rearranged music of the originals plus a bunch of new music for this installment. Also as a nice bonus, this game features an emulated version of the original arcade game built into this. This is a perfect package for any OutRun fan or fans of simple arcade style racing games.
