The last news Agam Berger's family heard of their daughter, who was doing her second day of military service when she was abducted from the Nahal Oz base on Oct 7, came in November 2023. It was from some of the released hostages. They told her that Agam was praying and observing Shabbat in captivity and was in good spirits. That was nearly 14 months ago. Nothing since.

Agam is a talented violinist. Back in August, her family marked her 20th birthday with music, including performances of some of her favorite pieces on violin, piano, and oud. When they heard that Agam was trying to observe Shabbat in captivity, her family started observing Shabbat.

Agam is on the list to be released with the four other military spotters: Na'ama, Daniela, Liri, and Karina. Israel believes them all to be alive. Their release, or the release of their bodies, will be the third group after the civilian women (tomorrow afternoon Israel time) and the Bibas children Kfir and Ariel and their mother Shiri.

Whenever I say I give my peafowl mice as treats, I am always, always always met by surprise. But they're omnivores, and on the high end of omnivorous, so I'm not sure why it's a surprise. They need 24-30% protein in their diet; compared to cats, obligate carnivores, who need 26-40%+, or chickens, also omnivorous fowl, who need 16-22%, peafowl are pretty high up there. The protein has to come from somewhere and it's not plants. Bugs, rodents, lizards, snakes, amphibians, fish, even baby birds are not safe from the fancy velociraptors. If they can catch it and it will fit into their face, it's going down the hatch. Gulp!
