Have you got any song recs? Songs that you like and listen to (may or may not be on stream) that you think more people need to hear? Can write any comments about the songs, I love hearing about people’s music tastes :3
Here we go. This is a long one so strap in (idk how to do read more on mobile but i wish i did)
I'm a *really* big fan of wordplay and lyricism, as well as story telling. AS WELL AS really nice chordal progressions.
(so my arch nemesis is maroon 5's Memories. I know it's Pachelbel's Canon. That doesnt mean its good for a song in 2020. That chord progression is so... overused in pop and was from 1680!!!!! STOP USING IT ok rant over)
Because of being a big fan of wordplay and lyricism, I'm a big fan of Dave. A South London born rapper, who grew up experiencing immense difficulty surrounding a lot of his early life (Father deported to Nigeria at a few months old, homeless in his early life with his mother, at 11 his brother was sentenced to 18 years in prison for his involvement in a murder, at 15 his eldest brother was imprisoned for robbery)
At 24 now, he's had Brit Awards, Mercury Prizes, GQ Man of the Year awards and nominations, number 1 billboard charting songs, and I really love his music because of the conscientious poetry in some of his songs. "Question Time" has countless references to the rule (or lack thereof) that the UK Government had at the time, "Picture Me" encourages the youth to explore their own paths. Finally, the most heart-tugging song is "Black (Live at the Brits)". In this performance he adds an exclusive second verse, calling out the government for systemic racism, on an award show watched by millions. It's a BRILLIANT tribute to Jack Merritt, who was murdered by a terrorist on London Bridge, while protecting others, during a prison rehabilitation program that Jack led.
i realise this post is SO long but i could talk about music for EVER, it's one of my favourite things. Some of the wordplay is quintessentially british, and/or football related for some of his songs (like Thiago Silva)
someone else is bound to ask about music so i will go through another artist when they inevitably do :)
Edit: link for the song rec! the others on here are on all major streaming services, but this one's only on YouTube

yes I‘m a music nerd
so I’ve been listening to MCR lately.  (ten years late, I know.)  and this morning it occurred to me:
youtube
that melancholic piano riff?  that famously overwrought yet triumphant guitar chord progression?
totally Pachelbel’s Canon in D.
youtube
I guess it’s good that Rob Paravonian isn’t going to run out of material anytime  soon XD

Hey :D I don't remember if it was you wrote about it, but I think you will feel my pain even if it wasn't you. Because you love music. Classical music. I do too. And nearly nothing is more painfull then watching movies/series when there is someone who is really really bad at "fake-playing". When you can see that the finger positions don't make sense, the movement of the elbow or the breathing is wrong , even the whole posture. I was watching a drama. You have and "orchestra" with (1/2)
a cello, flute, saxophone, guitar, violin, 2 trumpets, trombone and an accordion. And the piece that was overlayed was Pachelbels Canon :( Trumpets!! Trombone!! Only two string instruments! asdlfösölsdölsdöölsda!!! So horrible!!!! I am suffering. So yeah, I think I will never complain about asynchron playing in any other movie again. I hit rock bottom with fake playing.  I don't know how that obvious mistake got through production. Sorry for yelling in you askbox. Hope you are well :D (2/2)
I feel like that’s something I might’ve mentioned before (because I’m, like. super passionate about this) but Y E S.
The sheer number of times I cringe watching a violinist/violist (LOL when would mainstream media actually show a violist though, lbr) on a show or movie and they’re just. all wrong.
The bow would be like all over the place, not even matching the sounds that we hear, the left wrist would be doing the Thing(TM) -- you know what thing, and the movement of their fingers just. DO NOT MATCH THE SOUNDS.
And then oh my goodness, that combination of instruments playing Pachelbel’s Canon???? NOPE NO THAT’S A BAD IDEA.  How the heck is anyone supposed to hear the strings with that sort of balance?  Don’t these people realize that the piece was originally written for strings????
I’m just,,, embarrassed for the music director or composer or whoever for that movie, like,,,,, how could you have allowed that to happen? Like....that’s a rookie mistake.
*exhales*
Anyways, yes.  I feel your pain.  I can rant about this all day.
Hope you’re well, too! :)

I rediscovered the Pachelbel Rant, which is an old classic
And I’m wondering if James Landino and Falk Au Yeong wrote Yinu’s battle theme after being made aware of the Pachelbel Rant, because it SHAMELESSLY declares it’s just the boss-theme variant of Pachelbel’s Canon in D
