double page spread for one of my favorite luzo fics of all time, poly philtatos (the most beloved by far) by my good friend - @swordsmans!

I knew I wanted to do a double page spread the second I finished this fic and I drafted abt a dozen ideas before landing on what would ultimately become this. There were so many snippets and moments I wanted to illustrate but I ended up doing more of an abstracted version of the fic as opposed to 1:1 drawings of scenes 

funnily enough while the fic itself is told in zoros pov this spread is framed mostly through luffy’s eyes - his tears literally frame comp for their reunion, the moment he loses zoro, and the centerpiece of the first page which is this weird abstraction of him on the beach seeing zoros corpse-not-a-corpse in the waves just beyond his reach. 

gyro put the crane wives’ never love an anchor on the playlist for this fic which i heavily used as inspiration in picking ornamental things for the spread (the anchor, the fleet of ships by luffy, and the nautical rope splitting the second page). also just like. overall really heartbreaking lyrics guys 

there are smaller elements throughout the spread that are 1:1 references though (all i will say for these is if you know, you know hehe) i wish i had more time to do a lengthier piece for fanart for this fic bc it's one of the few luzo fics that have been rattling around in my brain forever now - once again please please please read poly philtatos if you haven't. gyro is a masterful writer and they deserve all the love! ok byeee

i love suguru geto because i love characters that ruin everything, characters that had it all under control until that one thing and made a choice to burn it to the ground and smile at the ashes

i love the sunk-cost fallacy perception of suguru geto, that to solidify his point and decision he killed his parents, because at that point he’d already killed so many and if he was truly going to go down this path, regardless of whether or not it would even make a difference, he wasn’t going to half-ass it and leave any doubt about who he was

i love the tragedy that everything he did, ruining his reputation and relationships, meant nothing in the end and he died with nothing, even died in the lense of pity from the one person who despite everything, loved him

i love that despite it all amounting to jack-shit, his ideology and choices haunt the story, they haunt gojo, they haunt his friends and colleagues and even if it’s because he was evil, his choices had an impact on everything and everyone around him.

i also love his slutty waist but this isn’t about that

BFFR you're comparing Rick Riordan trying to make his world more inclusive, changing some parts because of money/time constraints, or just making changes cus he thinks they're needed, to JKR being a terrible person!

I basically live my life in bed when I’m not actively doing other things. That’s the only way I have the energy to do anything at all ever. When I do one of my hourish rehab classes, I’m usually flat in bed for most of the rest of that day and the entire next day, because delayed-onset fatigue is a thing my life is defined by.

It’s not remotely what people think of when they think of “pacing”, but it’s much closer to the daily reality of most people who live with fatigue disorders than the “I take a break for half an hour then I’m fine to go on” people picture when they hear the phrase.

I have heard the word “pacing” at almost every medical appointment I have ever mentioned fatigue at, and never yet had the slightest advice on doing it. Not even the ongoing CBT and Mindfulness websites recommendations I get if I ever mention low mood etc. The term is applied as a panacea by people who have zero understanding of what “pacing” is, how to achieve it, or what it actually means in the context of most fatigue disorders. Or how much pushback most people with those disorders will have when actually trying to implement it, because most people, including healthcare professionals, parse resting as “not trying”.

For people with fatigue disorders, pacing is *radical* in its effects on capacity. It lets you actually have some life, which is the big thing fatigue disorders feel as if they take from you. But we are stuck figuring it out for ourselves against enormous pushback.
