Finished Reading Padawan
These are just some little facts/snippets throughout the book I really liked, really along the lines of temple life.
Spoilers for Padawan below!
┉┉┉◤▲◥┉┉┉
Obi-Wan tugs on his padawan braid when he is anxious
Bolla Ropal (the Jedi that was killed guarding the holocron in TCW) was Obi-Wan's childhood frienemy. The two played pranks on each other.
Obi-Wan paces outside Qui-Gon's chamber doors as he's trying to figure out what to say what he needs to.
Obi-Wan feels most at peace, most calm, when he is practicing lightsaber forms and says he could do it all day and never bore of it.
Jedi specialize in certain fields, such as communication with animals, and if such a conflict arises based in that Jedi's field, they are sent to help
Jedi who are ready to take have a padawan meditate and the force guides them to who they're meant to train, leading to shared interests.
The temple has several dining halls. There is a padawan meal hall and therefore one for the other ranks. They offer such a variety of food Obi-Wan said one could always find something new to try. And I could've made this up but I'm also pretty sure they said the dining hall for padawans was almost always open, so one was always be able to get a meal.
Some Jedi Masters put a table and chairs in their rooms so they can share a meal with their padawan in their personal space
Qui-Gon doesn't even have an extra chair in his room.
Ships can be requested/reserved down in the hangar. A padawan is allowed to do this without approval from their master (Obi-Wan is told by Qui-Gon to do do but is not directly confronted when he does it alone).
Talking and communicating with animals is actually one of the harder skills to learn and master as a Jedi, so many opt not to. Meaning Ezra's ability to communicate with animals as well as he does is not something all Jedi could do, especially for his age
Nautolans, can live outside of water (we do know this) but since they are an aquatic species, there is a constant strain on their gills and results in them being in pain if out of water for too long.
Obi-Wan thinks Kit Fisto is really strong, he notes Fisto does not seem to be affected by this.
Obi-Wan notes some of his padawan friends have dabbled in physical relationships. But he sees it has an obstacle not as a temptation, feeling that, kissing for example, was a betrayal of himself and the Jedi. He wonders if he'd ever get to a point where it does not feel like that.
┉┉┉◤▲◥┉┉┉
Honestly this book was a really cute read and the planet it takes place on was very captivating. I really liked how Kirsten White writes Qui-Gon too and her references that any prequel fan would love catching.

[image 1 id: a photo taken of one of the pages from the padawan novel (transcribed below):
"Oh, I know!" Obi-Wan smiled at the warning, touched that Casul didn't want Obi-Wan getting his hopes up. "I can't form attachments like that, anyway." Couldn't he, though, if he didn't go back? Was that something he would even want? It had always been so forbidden, even thinking about it was like holding his hand right next to a lightsaber blade. He knew some of his friends had dabbled in physical relationships—suspected Siri would have been open to it, had he ever wanted to—but it had always seemed like an obstacle, not a temptation.
"And besides," Obi-Wan said, rushing to change the subject for himself more than anyone, "I would never want to be in a relationship with a leader. Too close to politicians or royalty. I'm sure if I ever fell in love, it would be with someone calm. Peaceful. Easy to get along with."
"So you want someone who doesn't challenge you."
Obi-Wan laughed, then shrugged. "I don't know what I want, if we're being honest."
Casul mirrored his shrug. "Not many choices around here. I don't think love is in my future, either, and I'm fine with that. As long as I have the Power to keep my family safe, that's enough for me. Though I will admit I've been curious about kissing and why Audj and Zae-Brii enjoy it so much. So if you're ever curious, too, let me know."

[image 2 id: another photo taken of one of the pages from the padawan novel, continuing the passage (transcribed below)
Obi-Wan blushed. "I will. Let you know, I mean. Not that I will do that, right now, with you. Or anyone." Would he ever get to a point where kissing someone felt like anything less than a betrayal of himself and the Jedi? And if he did get to that point, who would he want to kiss? The Lenahrans were confident and charismatic, which attractive. But he couldn't imagine just...kissing any of them.
Maybe he didn't want to be with any of them but rather to be more like each of them.
Or maybe he wanted to kiss all of them. Not Mem, though, because he had a feeling that would upset her very much.
He wasn't going to kiss any of them, regardless. Everything on Lenahra seemed simple and felt impossibly complicated, and that would doubtless make it all worse.

“What’s this important information then?” Obi-Wan snapped.
“Master Qui-Gon Jinn didn’t choose you.”
“What?”
“He didn’t choose you. After your trial.”
Obi-Wan felt the planet tilt on its axis. “What are you talking about? Of course he did.”
Bolla shook his jewel-green head. “Yoda assigned you to him.”
“But...that’s not how it works. Masters choose their apprentices. When they decide to take on a Padawan, they’re guided to the right one. The Force puts us together so we can learn from each other. You know this, same as I do.” But even as Obi-Wan tried to deny what Bolla was telling him, something inside him was already seeing its truth.
“That’s how it usually happens, yes. But not in your case.  Qui-Gon didn’t choose you. Yoda made him...I mean, asked him to take you on.”
Obi-Wan didn’t know what to do with this information. He and Bolla clashed more often than not, but the Rodian wasn’t a liar. It felt like the hallway was spinning around him. The Force hadn’t guided Qui-Gon Jinn to take on Obi-Wan as a Padawan. Had he even wanted to, or had Yoda somehow pulled rank as a Council member and made him? No wonder Qui-Gon was always troubled. He hadn’t wanted to train Obi-Wan in the first place, and Obi-Wan was struggling so much. A rush of humiliation flooded Obi-Wan as he imagined how frustrating he must be for the Jedi Knight. A problem he had neither asked for nor planned on.

“I’m going to miss your short hair,” she said, reaching over to run her hand through hair that had started to grow past the standard Padawan trim. “It was always so nice and neat.”
“Maybe I’ll grow it out to annoy you. Have you seen how Obi-Wan’s hair flows in the back?” he asked.
“No, please, anything but that,” she said, prompting both of them to break into laughter.
what absolute blasphemy!! the both of you, just NO. Do they mean this hair?! this glorious stunning hair??!:

Interesting that Dooku’s departure from the Jedi Order got retconned in Tales of the Jedi… Here, the events of Phantom Menace and Qui-Gon Jinn’s death are the critical point that cements Dooku’s fate with the dark side. He is still in the order at this point in the new show. Political corruption of the Republic is the starting point still, but Qui-Gon Jinn’s death is the final straw.
Yet in previous canon Dooku had already walked away to from the Order and moved off of Coruscant (without blowing his cover as Sith) while Qui-Gon Jinn was alive. The crux of the book Padawan hinges upon Obi-Wan’s fear that Qui-Gon Jinn will abandon him and leave the Jedi Order, following in the footsteps of Dooku. So Qui-Gon Jinn is very much alive and well and has nothing to do with Dooku’s fall.
In timeline order, this canon book falls after Dooku: Jedi Lost and prior to another Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan adventure Master and Apprentice. It’s a shame Filoni felt the need to change Dooku’s motivations when he is such an interesting character in his own right.

So....Star Wars.
It's great! It's wonderful! But it's fans have got to learn to be more open! First it's Moses Ingram getting racist comments. And now we have what seems like a huge amount of people complaining because Obi-Wan was questioning his sexuality in this new book 'Padawan.'
First off, questioning ones sexuality is a normal part of life. It's fine! It hurts no one!
Second off, let's say Obi-Wan was bi or asexual. Is that hurting you? Does that ruin the charecter?
No, it doesn't. Because it does not change a thing about Obi-Wan's personality, nor does it change any of the books or movies!
I get on YouTube and see hundreds of people liking videos and comments explaining how Disney and lucasfilm DESTORYED Obi-Wan and how nothing Disney does is cannon anymore. Because why? Because a charecter might like guys and girls?
Look, all I'm trying to say is for some reason, I was shocked at the sheer number of Star Wars fans that are homophobic assholes. Every single one of you who are angry and think Disney is ruining Star Wars because they made a teenager in a book question his sexuality for 0.2 seconds need to re-evaluate where your motives are at and exactly why you are so against this in the first place.

A passage from Padawan by Kiersten White confirming Canon Bi / Acespec / Aromantic Obi-Wan Kenobi, pages 172-174 (full transcript under the cut)
