Fetiche Sonoro's Best Albums of 2023
Guys! these are the best collection of recordings issued as a single piece of 2023, and we are very excited that you can enjoy these delightful albums.
Madres by Sofia Kourtesis
At first glance, The Peruvian's first album appears to effortlessly combine European house music with Latin American influences, exuding a predominantly joyful atmosphere. However, beneath the surface, it reveals itself as a profound, emotionally intricate, and contemplative work that invites the listener to dance. While addressing weighty themes, the album remains fundamentally grateful, joy-infused, and celebratory in its essence.
Corsé by Clara Peya
The Catalan artist has assembled a talented group of thirteen diverse performers known for their exceptional interpretation skills, combining profound lyrics with dynamic shifts in emotion. Every track on the album exudes the same level of passion and elegance, each in its unique style. The impressive production –driven by a subtle form of electronica that doesn’t overpower the rest, and featuring a piano with graceful touches– is truly remarkable.
Habita by Pahua
The Mexican musician has continuously released songs since 2020 but this time she finally releases her debut album, which is jam-packed with international collaborators. While not overly ambitious the production aims to experiment with different genres gracefully encased in dazzling electronic folk.
Lucha by Y La Bamba
It's unusual for a project to realize its complete potential after so many years, but that appears to be precisely the case with Y La Bamba from Portland. Luz Elena Mendoza's music has taken on an unprecedentedly smooth, immersive, and surreal quality, as familiar sounds continuously transform into unfamiliar forms. The unique dimensions, layers, and shadows within this music are genuinely perceptible in this production.
Vidrio by Titanic
Exploring innovative pathways in contemporary composition, jazz, and art song, Guatemala-native cellist and vocalist Mabe Fratti collaborates with Mexico City multi-instrumentalist Hector Tosta. Their artistic direction defies genre constraints, with each composition centered around the distinct clarity of Fratti's prominent voice. The musical journey traverses a spectrum of styles, ranging from jazz and chamber pop to intricate guitar polyrhythms.

#Rola | Pahua & Barzo | Sigo Tus Pasos
Tumblr media
Pahua and the Dragon's Secret is currently scheduled for a fall release with a third book coming out at a later date
And yeah I remember it being announced as a standalone as well
I love this imprint but it is so hard to keep track of everything
I hope the sequel is as good as the first book, I remember really liking it. I think I'd have to at least skim the first book again to refresh my memory of it.

MAY'S MONTHLY MUSIC!!!
Coco Jones' "Here We Go (Uh Huh)" is lush and spectacular R&B track. It has drama without losing its sleek touch and feels like an instant classic for anyone Going Through It.
"Chained Up" Snow Strippers is great, nostalgic track that samples Skrillex--all of the joys of listening to an AMV-ified Skrillex without the actual Skrillex.
Queen Bee's "Headless Angel" is a hard left turn from the previous track! Experimental and constantly switching things up, this Japanese track commands attention and might be more of an acquired taste.
"Limosina" 1tbsp. Vibrant and bouncy, this is a club track with a twist.
"Diorama" Yves. Ethereal and digital, this song slides against you and leaves a trail of glitter and sweat. Kpop for those who feel too pretentious for it.
"Armageddon" Aespa. An inverse of this, if you are used to Kpop Bullshit.. this is a track for you. Chaotic and yet...
Normani's "Candy Paint" is a work out anthem for the sluts out there. Not exceptional but catchy as hell. Will say, the pre-release version is better than the official version, cause it had some an instrumental element that invoked Ginuwine's "Pony" that they stripped out?? Still fun.
"Animetal" Within Destruction. Kinda what it says on the tin--metal that feels a bit anime.
"Paris, Tal Vez?" Perdido" and "No Me Molesta" by Alex Anwandter are nostalgic dance tracks with extra layers and fresh twists included. They're not TOO similar but if you like Kavinsky or some of the newer Justice stuff, please this entire album a chance
"Big Wigs" Forest Claudette. Bright vocals, horns, and a beat that twirls you around. This song is warm, even if the lyrics aren't necessarily.
Coheed and Cambria's "The Joke" isn't my fave by them but if you think this list is too dance-y, this is a song that think it's very serious and hard. Is it actually? Well... you judge
"The Sea" Yangbans. Just chill as hell.
"Picor" French Braids & Pahua. Tropical meets disco.
"Holy Touch" Suzy Clue. For the Metric girlies who wanted the drums to go off a bit more.
I listened to the BMTH album, I understand the appeal but something about it just reminds me of AMV music. Like... Skillet, Thousand Foot Krutch, Meg & Dia. But updated for modern audiences. Not a complaint, I grew up on that. I liked most of the album but I guess "Die4u" and "Limousine" stood out on first listen and "[ost]puss-e" might appeal to ppl who liked the Snow Strippers tracks.
"I, Vibrator" Say Anything. Didn't know this group still existed, anyways... this is like if Say Anything thought they were making a Modest Mouse track. Is it good? IDK. Idk where else to talk about it.
"Endless Summer" Leat'eq. Generic dance track, so you know I have to rep it here.
"Ratatata" by Electric Callboy & Babymetal. This song is 15 hooks in a trench coat. Pure hype and fun with a wee bit of screamy-singing on top.
Not from this month but STILL:
"All the Same" Fat Dog. Makes me think of the instrumental of Engel by Rammstein (who I no longer listen to) with an 80s dark synthwave vibe.
I'm definitely missing many tracks but this month just gave too much! I kinda just added music at random I'm SORRY BUT LISTEN TO RATATATA

Tagged by@martius-mensis so here are my replies.
Last song: Last Night on Earth by Paloma Faith
Fav color: green. Preferably deep, rich green.
Currently watching: The Thin Man. After introducing my oldest to Bringing Up Baby, she's all about B&W movies with amazing gowns and screwball humor.
Currently reading: like, a physical book that doesn't need batteries or wifi? Pahua and the Soul Stealer by Lori M Lee, swiped from my youngest who doesn't realize it yet.
Last movie: Sitting in Bars with Cake. The name and the first act does not prepare you for the rest of it.
Sweet/Savory/Spicy: sweet.
Relationship status: life-bonded to my husb.
Current obsession: Loki. My oldest has watched all but the last two episodes with me, and my husb has watched all but the very last episode with me, and I am trying to wait for them but I already know how it ends thanks to Tumblr but I want to watch it anyway and what-the-what is wrong with those two that they aren't eager to see it?
Last Google: scholarships. My oldest will be going to college next year and I'd like money, please.
Currently working on: craft wise, Christmas presents. I've mostly finished a beret for my younger brother's gf (waiting until she comes for the holidays to finish the edge so it fits her head instead of mine). Also a third (quarter) of the way thru knitting a scarf. I have 3 more hats on my holiday gift list. Writing wise, I'm 3k words deep into a Northanger Abbey modern AU that is titled, "What Starts in Vegas." I need to decide if I want to backtrack to a point where I can branch off to a sweet ending or if I need to figure out how to power thru a sad bit to tack on a bit of fluff on the end.
Current game: is juggling WIP a game?

BIOGRAPHY .
more ocean water than blood in him, his mother used to say. born the eldest in the ehekatl family, the summer court’s finest shipmakers, kazakir took to the sand and sea far more quickly than he took to walking. his father was a builder and his mother, much like him, was too restless to stay on land for too long. it became a pastime for them, taking the ships that his father built and testing them at sea where both thrived in stranger tides. when his siblings were born, he carried on that tradition with them.
at sea, among the waves and the water-wraiths, his mother taught him the importance of learning the way of water. it was his family’s duty to provide the ships that guarded and fought for the summer court, their reputation a fearsome one. his mother was a fighter, his father a builder, and somewhere in between, was kazakir.
as gifted at building with words as he was his hands, his connection with both people and the sea earned him a position as the naval commander of the summer court as favorable eyes turned to his family. within its inner circle, he felt at peace. there he could be both sea and shore, just as he always had been.
in time, once the lesser fae rose and the summer court rose with them, his talent for warfare made itself known. just as the sea could embrace, it could also drown. just as the sun could warm, it could also burn. and under his command, the summer court’s navy was a guardian to its people and a bane to its enemies.
but war makes warriors weary and when the fighting was over, the night court having so generously splitting their forces, kazakir observed a sea more bone than salt. by whatever means necessary, whatever it took, there would be no more. a torn hope rests inside him and shifts with the tide.
