It;s been months since I first read it but I’m still obsessed with “The Fearful” from Batman: Urban Legends 8-9.
The plot is this: It’s about 20 post Future State: Gotham and Future State is now an apocalypse timeline. Duke has become a Warlock (he keeps getting  called Duke of the demon arm and his left looks noticeably different from his right), and is sending Black Lightning (who is currently cursed to be an elemental being trapped inside the sword Soul Taker) back in time to kill a guy and avert this.
The guy is Jonah Winfield. He was experimented on by Scarecrow, got inject with two different strands of fear toxin (several years apart) and this cause him to start excreting fear toxin like pheromones. So everyone he comes across gets infected and somehow the existence of this guy is the major difference between Fear State and Future State.
Black Lighting doesn’t actually want to kill this guy but he didn’t go back in time far enough to have many other options, so he goes to his younger self and the Outsiders for help. They are all very confused but go along with it.
They find Jonah, start arguing with each other what to do about it which gets enhanced bu the fear toxin Jonah’s putting off. They get rescued by Tim, who somehow already knows about this guy and has a cure for him even though Jonah can only have been like this for a couple of hours.
They go after him again, Scarecrow tries to stop them. But Duke gets around him with the cure and saves Jonah. All of this last fight scene gets narrated by future!Duke as he’s hanging from a ceiling having been captured by future!Jonah who went full villain.
The cure takes affect, future!Duke’s chains disappear, his magic arm becomes a normal arm and a normal looking Black Lighting comes to check on him. Duke cheers about Black Lightning’s curse being broken. BL says “WTF are you talking about I still haven’t aged in 30 years” and then they go to fight a different apocalypse? As there’s a giant  rock monster in the background screaming about how it’s going to humanity. There’s a group shot of the future Outsiders of this new timeline and the story ends.
This story fascinates me, but I don’t understand a single thing about it.
Why was time travel necessary to fix this? Tim seemed pretty on top if it and it honestly felt like the Outsiders were just in his way
Black Lighting being cursed is an established fact from a few other Future State titles, but why is Duke magic now?
Duke gets described as being one of the most powerful mages alive. Is he Zatanna level powerful? How does his magic interact with his Meta gene?
Duke gets a cat familiar named Teekl. Teekl the cat who is normal Klarion’s familiar, but honestly looks like Pantherlily from Fairytail in this.
Everything about Jonah confuses me. They way he got powers makes no sense and they hardly seem apocalypse level when we do see him in the future.
The ending gives hard “New day, Same crap” vibes and I have no idea how this new timeline is any better than the old one..
In conclusion this story is nonsense, but I still kinda adore it for some reason.

Melting Iron
Chapter 1 - A Medival Fantasy Gajevy AU fanfiction
Read Here on AO3
“I’m sure you’ll be fine Levy; you have nothing to worry about” reassured Princess Dragneel, the motivation however, fell on deaf ears as the bluenette continued to fret over the thought their new arrivals, her eyes unfocused, her heart racing and her mind working a mile a minute trying to figure her way out of the inevitable.
She had no problem meeting new people, sure she was not the most social person in the kingdom, but she could withstand the average amount socialness required to not seem abnormal or rude. It was however a certain group of individuals, that at the mere thought of them had the young lady’s skin crawling and her fight or flight mode kicking into hyperdrive. Scholars, professors, court advisors any job within a kingdom that required a high level of knowledge or education, it was not the position itself that infuriated her but rather the type of people that held these positions. Being a woman had its fair share of challenges as did being small, as did being young, when mixed these three factors create a brilliant target. She had struggled all her life to be taken seriously despite her clear unchallengeable intellect and because of this she could fill a book with all the times she has been unjustifiably belittled, and she fears something similar is going to happen soon.
The day was bright unfitting to her mood as the two ladies strode down the hallways into the entrance hall in preparation to greet their new guests. King Natsu was already stood tall and proud, with guards and servants posted around the hall. All the necessary preparations were already in order, the food was harvested from their thriving farms, and the most luxurious wines bought from the finest vineyards, all put together by Mirajane the lovely head chef and her dedicated team. The palace was scrubbed to withing an inch of its life, and the marble floors glistened and the light from the stained windows giving the palace a magical glow. Everyone was in place as the princess stood at the head of the entrance next to her husband. Levy took her place near them as she was a vital part of what was about to take place.
The giant doors opened and Prince Redfox ‘The Iron Dragon’ emerged, a hulking form of a man, all eyes were drawn to him, his intimidating presence demanding their attention and the room fell deathly silent. He had the eyes of a warrior who had seen a hundred lifetimes, his black steel armour thick and seemingly impenetrable covering him entirely from the neck down as his heavy footsteps echoed throughout the hall. He was quickly followed by several guards and a few servants all impressive in their crisp and tidy uniforms, but that was to be expected, and finally, three old grey gentlemen walking gracefully in their drab and old-fashioned cloaks, by the gods she already bored to death just looking at them.
She could not look away from the fascinating prince as she was entranced by the display. He showed no clear sign of emotion on his face as he marched along to stand at the foot of the Dragneels. A smile graced the royals faces as the formalities began. “Prince Redfox we are pleased to welcome you to the fire kingdom” The king began “I hope you had a safe journey” It was clear to all that knew him that he was trying his best to be formal though it was not something he was suited for or enjoyed, although she can hardly blame him as she felt the same way.
The talked for a small while exchanging pleasantries that neither were that interested in doing, until it was time to depart. “Miss Lisanna would you be kind enough to escort Prince Redfox to his room” It was getting late and the official work would start in the morning. Just before the prince turned to leave his eyes ghosted over Levy, taking in her petite form and colourful dress as she stood out from the crowd with her blue hair and a long flowy orange dress that seemed to sparkle in the sunlight, it was only brief but their eyes met and it felt as if she was holding his stern gaze for an eternity. And just like that he was gone, everyone dispersing and getting back to work as the prince and his entourage were all heading to their rooms and getting prepared for a grand meal that would be hosted later that evening.
Levy released a breath that she did not know she was holding when the room was almost emptied, and the new arrivals were out of sight. Turning to the princess, they smiled at each other and both visibly relaxed. “Well that went rather well I think, don’t you?” Lucy seemed pleased as she should, the next few weeks are going to be particularly important for both parties and a good first impression could make all the difference. “yeas, it was quite successful, I think he’s pleased” Lucy’s eyes lit up at this and a mischievous smile appeared on her face “Oh yes, I would definitely say he was pleased with what he saw” She teased. The two women had been friends since childhood, so this kind of informality was common when no one new was around, newcomers would probably be surprised or appalled at the way a servant would speak to a queen so they kept up formalities in front of quest as to appear professional.
A blush covered the smalls girls face “What are you talking about Lu? You are crazy”
“Please, I saw that little look you two gave to each other” She was trying to contain a squeal as she inched closer to the girl, Levy crossed her arms and shook her head. “That wasn’t anything he was just looking around the room and we made brief eye contact, hardly anything to gush about” Natsu just playfully shook his head at the two of them already knowing what they were like and gently wrapped an arm around his wife’s shoulders and pulling her away muttering something about getting washed up before the banquet, he gave a passing look at Levy and she nodded at him for saving her from her friends incessant interrogation, he really was life saver in more ways than one.
Brushing off those childish remarks, Levy made her way back to library which was basically her second room judging by how much time she spends in there and on more than one occasion accidentally slept there. It was silly teasing and nothing more she assured herself, Lucy did that sort of stuff all the time, even so there was no way a man such as himself, a prince and soon to be king and esteemed warrior would be interested in her and just on look alone no less, she never really considered herself a prize. He wasn’t even her type, most brutish were mean, hard headed and stubborn, who usually wanted nothing more than a simple little wife to sit still and look pretty and birth a healthy heir, and surely prince Redfox was exactly the same, that was not the life for Levy she decided that long ago.
Later that evening when the moon had risen, a handful servants and butlers arrived and began to serve the food with practiced elegance, everything looked delicious anything you heart or stomach could desire was placed perfectly on the elegantly decorated table, the room was lit with candles creating a wonderfully calming atmosphere, the plates and cutlery adorned with gold, the dining hall was exemplary from ceiling to floor and most certainly fit for a king.
There were few places set at the small table, as this certain dinner was only for the people involved in the plans for the alliance and approaching war, it was meant to make the stay more hospitable and hopefully ease the tension between the royals.
Everyone took their seats Natsu at one end with Lucy by his side, and Prince Redfox at the other with who she expected to be his right-hand man on his right, she heard from Lucy that his his name was Pantherlily. The three ‘ancients’ as she has nicknamed them, sat stiffly together looking as dull as ever, a long blue haired beauty was also there although her role at the moment was unknow, our captain of the guard Erza Scarlet sat opposite me, her eyes were stern as she scanned the room for anything potentially dangerous, she was seriously devoted to her kingdom and her job, she was a lovely woman but she could be truly terrifying when the time called for it, and to her left Jellal Fernandes a brilliantly clever battle tactician and although they never showed any outward affection in public everyone knew they were courting. Levy was a communication expert and all round ‘know it all’ she helped with anything she could usually involving books, scrolls, languages, or even runes and she was damn good at her job despite her young age.
Everyone began tucking into the gigantic feast and the mood lightened as everyone was dazzled by the display of food and put at ease by the abundance of alcohol, light chatter filled the room as people began to become familiar with one another when one of the ancients began to speak up “I am looking forward to this impressive team of scholars that you have spoken so highly of your King Natsu” His words were polite but his tone was dismissive. Thankfully Natsu swallowed the abnormal amount of food in his mouth before he spoke. “You already have” he stated at then motioned towards me with one hand and grabbing more food with the other. The room went silent and all the new arrivals were clearly shocked, it was unusual for a woman to be in such a position so this feeling was hardly new to her, especially the old ones, everyone was looking at her and she began to feel a bit awkward so she did a quick little wave and hoped that would do. “This one woman?” It was not so much of a question as it was an accusation, it was evident that he did not like the fact that I was a woman not many noble men did but he didn’t want to be so open about it and risk damaging a new relationship.
She looked over to the prince to try and get a gage on how he felt about the issue, but she could still tell nothing, his eyes were locked on her but so were everyone else’s. She hoped it would not cause a problem as it had in the past. “Is there a problem with that?” Natsu’s tone was raised slightly. Despite not knowing the king for long he had already grown protective over his wife’s best friend and it was extremely sweet, but she desperately did not want to be the cause of a big scene. “No, no, no your highness, of course, that is not a problem at all” he backed down thankfully, but he shot a nasty glare at Levy before averting his gaze that no one seemed to notice, or so she though, so things slowly began to settle down again.
The prince stayed quite throughout the majority of the meal but their eyes met every so often, she was beginning to worry that he would think that she was weird, so she took to chatting to the fellow bluenette on her left. She was a shy lady, but they seemed to get on quite well and she did not know who this Gray man was but the way she described him made him sound like a god.
Deserts came and went and Erza nearly stabbed the king she swore an oath to protect for trying to take the last of the strawberry cake. All were merry and having a good time just as Cana promised, why we trusted her to choose the alcohol was beyond her as even she was beginning to fell a bit tipsy from the two small drinks she had. As the evening progressed people began to filter out of the room until it was just her and the prince who still seemed unaffected despite the large amount of alcohol he consumed, not that she was watching or anything mind you.
You could taste the awkwardness in the air, as she took another sip of her drink successfully finishing it, and in her mind planning on a quick yet courteous exit. But just as she was about to get up to leave, he grabbed a somehow unopened bottle of whiskey names ‘Los demonios beben’ also known as ‘The Devils Drink’ no wonder it was untouched nobody would dare at an event like this, it was most likely Cana’s work that it was even got here. “Would you care to have a drink with me?” He asked but he was already poring it into his small glass and was moving to grab hers. “I am not sure if I should” She was a little bit of light weight but did not want to admit it. “Why? Can’t you handle it?” There was a small glint in his eyes and a slight smirk on his lips as he challenged her, fine if that’s the game he wanted to play, she would bite. “That’s rich coming from you, a man who’s basically swaying on his chair” It was subtle, but she was observant and just managed to pick up on it.
She was a bit taken back from her own response as her mind stopped working, she had just insulted the fearsome prince! just as her mind started whirling trying to put an apology together he let out an odd little gihi as he placed her drink back in front of her. It was far too strong for her taste but there was no way she would let him know that, after her first small sip she glanced back at him to see he had already finished, his cockiness all over his face, that smug bastard. Now determined she gulped her drink down as fast as she could without spilling and then snatched up the bottle and pored herself another. What had gotten into her? This was not like her, plus this was an especially important mission she could not embarrass herself like this in front of a prince. But it seemed it had the opposite effect as he looked rather impressed. But of course, he had to one up her by taking a large swig straight from the bottle, and as to not fall behind so did she.
Before she knew it, the bottle was empty, and she realised they were entering dangerous territory as his predatory eyes raked over her. “Well I have had a very nice evening, but it is time I turn in for the night” she said standing and giving light bow and hoping it didn’t look like she was stumbling, luckily she didn’t slur her words too much or at least she didn’t think she did. His dazzling smile only wavered for a second before he too stood up and starched out his hand “You’ve been a worthy adversary, but I’m sorry you lost” Ever the diplomat she grasped his hand in a solid handshake and returned his light hearted banter “please I let you win, goodnight Prince Redfox” And with that she left.
On her way to her bedchambers she passed by Mirajane and Lisanna who both smiled at her and nodded she prayed they didn’t realise she and the prince were the last ones out or she would never hear the end of it from any of the girls and that’s really not what she needed right now.

Fairy Tail’s Fairy Tale’s Chapter 8
((Part 8 of my contribution to the fairy tail big bang by @ft-ez-bb ! I hope you enjoy! Please comment/like/reblog/ect. if you did!))
"Gajeel, do you wanna be in the next story?" Wendy asked. "Sure, what is it?" he asked curiously. "Aschenputtel!" Wendy read, happily. "Bless you." Gajeel said. Levy laughed, "Aschenputtel is the German name for Cinderella." she explained, "I think it's very fitting for you." "Really?" Gajeel asked surprised. "Uh-huh. " Levy nodded, "You have a history of holding women against their will." she said, smiling. "When are ya gonna let that go?" Gajeel asked, annoyed. "Never." Levy replied.
"Hey, we want to be part of the story too!" Jet said determinedly. "Yeah!" Droy agreed, "We wanna act with Levy and Gajeel!" "There's not really any other characters. . ." Wendy said, "I guess you could be the evil stepsisters?" "We're in!" Jet declared. "Yeah! How hard can it be?!" Droy added. Levy opened her mouth to object, but Gajeel quickly covered it, "This'll be great." he whispered to her, grinning. The team headed backstage.
ASCHENPUTTEL   CINDERELLA
"Once upon a time, the wife of a rich man fell sick. And as she was dying, she told her daughter to be good and kind. After the woman had died, the little girl planted a hazel twig at her mother's grave, and she visited so often and cried so much, that it grew into a large, beautiful tree. And when she sat beneath it, if she made a wish, a bird would grant her it. Her father had remarried to a woman with two daughters of her own. All three were beautiful of face, but vile and black of heart. The step-sisters treated the little girl cruelly. They made her wear rags while they wore fine dresses, made her do all the chores, and instead of a bed, she had to sleep by the fire. Because of this, she was always covered in ash, and so they called her Cinderella." Wendy began.
Levy walked onstage in rags. Jet and Droy walked behind her in fine suits. "Wait- we have to be mean to Levy?!" Jet exclaimed, "I can't be mean to Levy!" "I can't either!" "Guys, you're called the evil stepsisters." Levy pointed out, "What did you expect?" Gajeel's loud laughter could be heard from backstage. "That jerk. . ." Droy glared. "He knew this would happen!" Jet yelled angrily. "Guys, relax. It's just a play." Levy assured, "I know you're not actually being mean to me." "That doesn't make it any easier!" Droy wailed, tears streaming down his cheeks. Levy couldn't help but laugh, "It's okay, guys. Really. We need to continue with the play." The boys sniffled and wiped their eyes. "Okay. . ." "Fine." They agreed. Chelia leaned towards her friend. "Your guild is weird." she whispered. "I know." Wendy nodded.
"The King proclaimed that there would be a three day festival to find his son a wife. All of the eligible maids in the kingdom were to come, and Cinderella was told to help her sisters with the preparations to go to the ball. Cinderella helped, but was sad, because she wanted to go to the ball, but her stepmother would not let her. She said Cinderella didn't have nice enough clothes and couldn't dance, Cinderella would embarrass the family. The stepmother and sisters left for the ball, and Cinderella went to her mother's grave." Wendy explained.
Levy sat on the ground and looked up at the ceiling, "Shiver and quiver, little tree, silver and gold throw down over me." Erza used her magic and in an instant Levy was clothed in a beautiful gold and silver silk dress, and silk slippers. "I'm off to the festival!" Levy dashed offstage.
Gajeel lounged on a large, iron throne at one end of the stage, he was in a fine suit with a crooked iron crown on his head. His hands were behind his head and his feet were draped over the side of the chair. Jet and Droy stood onstage, a little ways off, as did Pantherlily, now in his large form. Levy walked onstage and looked around before walking past Jet and Droy to Gajeel. "Who's that?!" Droy asked, watching Levy eagerly. "I don't know!" Jet answered, "Must be a foreign princess."
Gajeel whistled as Levy approached. "You clean up nice, Shorty." She gave him a playful pout in reply. Gajeel sat up properly and offered her his hand, "Wanna dance?" "You're a jerk." Levy declared, happily taking the hand. Gajeel stood and rested his other hand on her shoulder, "Your jerk." he reminded smirking. Levy shrugged, "It's not my fault I have bad taste in men." Gajeel laughed and they began dancing. "The prince danced only with her." Wendy narrated.  "Mind if I cut in?" Jet asked politely. "BUZZ OFF, SHE'S MINE!!!!" Gajeel yelled angrily, pulling Levy closer to his chest. Jet sulked over to his 'brother', "This sucks." "Let's get out of here." Droy agreed. The two left and Levy stepped away from Gajeel, "I have to go. I'm sorry."
Gajeel blinked, "Oh. . . Well, can I walk you home?" "No." Levy ran offstage. ". . . Whaddya mean no?!!!" Gajeel yelled after her, offended. He sat in his throne again and crossed his arms over his chest. "What a bitch!" he snapped angrily, ". . . I hope she comes again tomorrow."
"She did come again the next night." Wendy continued, "And again the prince danced only with her." Levy came on, this time in a beautiful yellow, lace dress, which Gajeel twirled her in. "And again Cinderella ran away as quickly as she had entered." Wendy continued. Levy ran offstage again.
Gajeel sat in his throne, glaring at the floor. He and Pantherlily were alone onstage. "If you're trying to burn a hole in the floor, it isn't working." Lily informed his master teasingly. Gajeel slammed his fist on the arm of the chair and whirled on Lily. He leapt to his feet in fury "TWO DAYS!!!" he yelled angrily, "For two days I've fallen in love with the same woman, tried to find out who she is, and failed! I'm marrying her if it's the last thing I do!" he slumped back into the throne.
"But, Gajeel, tomorrow is the last night of the festival, you have to do it then, or you'll never find her." Lily said worriedly. "I know!" Gajeel suddenly sat up and grinned, "I'll trap her!" Pantherlily stared at his master for a moment, "YOU HAVE A PROBLEM!!!!!" he suddenly yelled. Gajeel was taken aback, Lily rarely raised his voice. "Levy told me what you did to Mirajane!" he scolded, "I know you crucified Levy when you first met!" he added, "WHY IS YOUR FIRST INSTINCT TO HOLD A WOMAN AGAINST HER WILL?!!" Pantherlily sighed and ran a tired hand down his face, "Whatever. Your poor life decisions are your own problem. I'll spread pitch on the stairs. . ." he walked offstage. Gajeel stared after his exceed in shock, then turned his glance towards the audience, ". . . What just happened?"
"The third night, Cinderella returned." Wendy narrated. Levy walked on in a beautiful white ballgown, a veil sat on her head and Gajeel stared at her in awe. ". . . Woah. . ." he breathed. Levy walked up to him, smiling. "Gajeel?" she asked, "Are you okay?" "You look beautiful. . . " Gajeel said. Levy blushed and beamed, "We're supposed to dance." she gently reminded. "Oh, right! We're in a play!" Gajeel remembered and quickly took her hand. They danced a bit and Wendy continued narrating. "That night, Cinderella left again." Levy ran offstage, but left a glass slipper behind. Gajeel picked it up, "I'll marry whoever fits this shoe." he vowed.
"The prince searched the land and at last came to Cinderella's house." Wendy continued. Jet and Droy stood onstage, as did Levy in her rags. "He tried the shoe on the stepsisters, but finally gave it to Cinderella." Wendy continued. Gajeel carefully eased Levy's foot into the shoe. "They got married and lived happily ever-" "Hang on!" Droy interrupted the little sky slayer, "We're not gonna try on the shoe?" "Yeah! That totally ruins the suspense!" Jet agreed. "Well, in the original version, the stepsisters cut off parts of their feet to fit in the shoe. . ." Wendy explained. Jet and Droy looked horrified. "Well it's a good thing we skipped that part then." Levy said, in an attempt to ease the men's horror. "The end!" Wendy declared.
She turned back to her book happily. "Next is. . . Tufty Ricky." "Oh, I love that story!" Freed exclaimed, putting a hand on his heart, "It's about how love changes you for the better." "Perfect!" Wendy said, "You and Laxus could do it! You could be the prince- and Laxus could be the princess!" "I'm playing a damn princess?" Laxus asked, glaring. "Well," Freed said , "You can either play a beautiful, dumb, princess, or the hideous, smart, prince." Laxus sighed. He knew Freed was the smartest person in the guild. Laxus wouldn't have made him Captain of the team if he wasn't. "I'll be the pretty princess. . ." Laxus grumbled, heading backstage with Freed. "There's a sentence I never thought I'd hear Laxus say." Bixlow mentioned.
TUFTY RICKY
"Once upon a time, a little prince was born so ugly that the queen wasn't sure he was even human. But a fairy was there when he was born, and promised that he would be as smart as he was ugly, and blessed him with the power to give intelligence to the person he loved most in the world. The prince was named Tufty Ricky for the small tuft of hair on his head." Wendy began, "In a neighboring kingdom, a queen gave birth to two princesses. The older was beautiful, but the youngest was horribly ugly. The fairy was also present at that birth, and promised that the younger would be so witty, that no one would notice her lack of beauty. But the older would be dumb as can be. The fairy, however, blessed the older that whoever she loved most, would be as beautiful as she."
"As the daughters grew, the mother praised the younger for her wit, but could not help but reproach the older for her stupidity." Wendy continued. "I don't like my part in this story." Laxus announced as he walked onstage and sat on the ground. "You chose it!" Mirajane reminded from the bar. Laxus flipped her off.
"One day, the elder princess went into the woods to mourn her cruel fate, and that's where she met Tufty Ricky." Wendy added. Freed walked onstage and knelt at Laxus's side, "My good Sir, I must confess, I can't fathom why one with such beauty as yours could possibly be so unhappy." "That's very kind of you." Laxus said simply. He wouldn't meet the other's eyes. "Beauty," Freed continued, sitting by the slayer, "Is an asset. Why with a beauty like yours, nothing could trouble you so much." Laxus glared at him, " I would rather be as ugly and as smart as you, then as beautiful and stupid as me." he replied, bitterly. "Oh?" Freed asked, smiling fondly, "I happen to think that the greatest mark of intelligence, is believing you don't possess it. It is the very nature of smarts that the more one has- the less they believe they do." Freed declared dramatically, standing up to do so.
Laxus just stared at the other in confusion. Freed quickly returned to the blonde's side, "If that is all that is troubling you, then I can easily put an end to your suffering." "How?" Laxus asked. "I have the power to give whomever I love most in this world intelligence. If you will marry me, you'll become the most intelligent person on this earth." Freed stood and turned his back to the other, "I'll give you one year to-" "Fuck it. Let's do it." Laxus said. Freed blinked, 'Uh. . . Alright. We'll get married in a year." With that, the two left the stage in opposite directions, and Wendy took over again.
"The day after she met Tufty Ricky, the older princess was more intelligent. The kingdom loved her, and she had many suitors, but none were as intelligent as her. But one day she found a man that, while he wasn't as smart as Tufty Ricky- would do just fine, and she was debating whether to marry him. She didn't realize that it had been exactly one year since she had made the promise to Tufty Ricky. The princess was in the woods, thinking about what to do, when she found him again." Wendy narrated.
Laxus walked onstage, staring at the ground thoughtfully as Freed bounded up to him, "Well, my love? Are you ready for the wedding?" the rune mage asked. "I gotta be honest with you- there's another guy I like." Laxus said bluntly, "And I know I promised to marry you- but I was dumb back then! And I'm having a hard time making a choice." he confessed. '"Well, let's make it easier then." Freed offered, "Apart from my ugliness, is there anything about me you do not like? Are you unhappy about my birth, my intelligence, my character, or my manners?" "No." Laxus answered, "I love all of those things about you- more than I love the other guy." "Then we have reason to rejoice." said Freed, "The same fairy that blessed me, blessed you. You can give the gift of beauty to the one you love most." Laxus shrugged, "If it is my gift to give, then I happily give it to you."
"In that moment, Tufty Ricky appeared the handsomest man in the world." Wendy began again. Laxus opened his arms and Freed eagerly ran to his embrace. "There are some who say that there was no magic at work here and that love alone caused the transformation. The two were married and they all lived happily ever after- the end!" Wendy declared.  Freed was positively giddy as he exited the stage.

uhh... fairy tail youtuber!au (pt.1?)
because i'm on a vlog squad hype, i wanted to make this
eh i’ll probably make more later
okay so everyone has separate channels except natsu, gray, gajeel, mira and lisanna
natsu gray and gajeel share one channel where they occasionally do podcasts with people, play games together and do random shit that often ends in chaos and giggles
but they also have their individual channels- natsu who does alot of vlogs and WILL prank his roommates (firing off fireworks around the house is a guilty pleasure)
gray mostly does gaming videos and the occasional vlog
gajeel’s videos consist of only music and compilations of his cat. while he isn’t the best at singing, for some reason, he has the power to play any guitar he picks up like a god
mira and lisanna make diy videos and baking vids separetaly, called ‘’strauss creates’’
juvia doesn’t have a channel herself, but she does appear in a lot of the other’s videos since they kinda all know each other??
natsu, gray and lisanna are childhood friends, natsu and gajeel are cousins, levy is gajeel’s girlfriend and lucy’s best friend, juvia is gajeel’s step sister and that cute barista that gray totally doesn’t have a crush on
lucy’s channel consists of many show/anime reviews and vlogs while levy’s channel is ALL about books, book reviews, the books she’s read and little challenges. she does book hauls every month and talks about the latest stories she’s read
she’s also lucy’s #1 fan!!
seriously girl tho that novel needs to be published stop denying your talent
yeah so juvia works at this cute coffee shop and she’s good friends with lisanna
ju’s also the reason why gray comes in all the time
ok to the real story now
natsu and lucy first run into each other at walmart, ironically both were looking for stuff for a prank
levy has been ditching her for her mysterious boyfriend a lot of times this month so obviously lucy has to get back at her
and natsu naturally just wants to fuck up gray and gajeel’s life
again, ironic, because they were both recording
lucy actually is the first one to talk since she recognized him as that one pink-haired weirdo that dropped off levy at her house once
so like: ‘’omg hey i know you!! wanna run down the aisles of walmart screaming and prank our friends together?!’’
and that’s the day natsu fell in love
kidding
but he does end up liking her a lot right there and then
so yeah, natsu and lucy became good friends and quickly became the best chaotic duo when it came to pranks
they also start to appear in each other’s vlogs A L O T
and when she’s doing her reviews, natsu loves running into lucy’s room and crashing her entire vid
he kinda just,,, lays down on her bed or beside her and says stupid stuff off and on camera
same goes with lucy!!
so like he’ll be recording in his room before the door fucking slams open and lucy starts screaming and jumps on his back
and clings to him for the rest of the day
it’s so cute and annoying everyone gets cavities and throws up
lisanna and juvia are besties!! they share a love for baking and often exchange recipes
juvia also tends to end up in lisanna’s and gray’s videos the most, making snide comments behind the camera when everyone least expects it
at the beginning, gray wanted nothing to do with juvia since she knew he was a youtube celeb and he didn’t want to deal with an annoying fangirl all the time
so for a while gray is an absolute cold-hearted douchebag until gajeel snaps his bones beats some sense into the guy and he finally opens his eyes
juvia is all forgiving and an absolute angel, how can you not love her
when she finds out about gray’s not so secret love for lemon sponge cakes, she makes a habit of making some for him more often than not every time she visits
levy called it bribery
juju called it payback, making him fall in love with her
gray is fully aware that she has his heart in her hands and has no problem with it
but lord knows what will happen if she hurts him
(the guys will come after her)
gajeel and levy
oh boy
they’ve actually been dating a few months prior their friend groups merging together
they became friends when levy realized he was nursing a little kitten back to health in his apartment back before he lived with natsu and gray
she helped him take care of pantherlily (it’s a badass name, no matter what anyone says) and it turned into some sort of co-ownership
later gajeel asked her out when he realized he’d fallen hard for this tiny goddess with messy blue hair and a personal library that probably rivaled the library of congress
(fortunately) she said yes and ever since they have a pretty nice relationship
but dear god
when they’re both in the same room you better fucking run because they turn into the sappiest morons in the world
it’s so disgustingly sweet and makes you wanna barf rainbows and shit sparkles
who knew gajeel could do romance??
ha he can’t
he just has a lot of experience charming ladies when stupid 13 year old natsu did something stupid in front of them
he did it to mask his shame and disappointment
why his dumbass cousin thought it was a good idea to try juggling with two staplers he will never know
ah whatever they love each other

luli short fic
Lisanna was terrified of small spaces.
Sitting in a small room, her hands in chains, her light blue dress streaked with blood, tears, and mud, she started to lose hope. She couldn't call anyone for help. Fairy Tail was too far away for them to notice she was missing, especially when she took a three - day mission to a different city.
       And she was scared.
No. She mustn't lose hope. She was a wizard of fairy tail, for god's sake! She could do this!
She squeezed her eyes shut, and focused on transforming. Come on come on come on turn into an animal any fucking animal please -
       No effect.
She curled up into a ball, and started to cry.
       ---
Lucy could sense that something was wrong. She had a strange feeling in her gut, but she couldn't exactly pinpoint what it was. Deep in thought, she ordered a beer at the bar, and put her head down, frowning.
"Luce, you okay?" asked Natsu, coming to sit beside her. "You don't look so good."
"I don't know. I just... have a feeling that something is off. Like something bad is happening to someone I care about. I don't know why, but it's nagging me."
       "You wanna ask Cana?"
       "That's - a surprisingly smart idea."
"The fuck you mean by surprisingly?"
       "Thanks, Natsu."
      "Hey, don't ignore me!"
       ---
       She kicked, pulled, screamed.
       "Let me go!!"
A dark-haired man with a scar over his left eye and a sick grin on his face hit the floor in front of her with a loud thud. She jumped, whimpering. "Or what, snowflake? You're gonna bite me?" He grabbed Lisanna's face, and leaned close.
"You're here for my entertainment, you know - oh, FUCK!"
He reeled back, as Lisanna snapped her jaws on his finger, glaring.
       "Don't you fucking touch me."
He stood in silence for a while, shaking. Then he turned around, and faced her again. "Oh, you're gonna pay for that, you bitch." He murmured something Lisanna couldn't make out, and suddenly, the whole room turned dark. Lisanna screamed. Oh god, no, she hated small spaces, especially when they were dark, especially - She felt a hand crawling up her leg, and kicked violently. The hand jerked her leg and slammed it onto the floor, causing her to cry out in pain.
The room returned back to normal, and the man was now at the entrance.
"You're gonna see exactly what happens to women who aren't obedient." He smirks, and slams the door shut.
       ---
"Well, the tarot cards say that someone you know is in peril."
       "Wait, what?"
Sipping her drink, Cana turns to smile as Lucy slams her hands on the table.
"Wait, who is it? What kind of peril? You can't just say that and expect me to be fine Cana Alberona are you listening - "
"Hold on a second, babe." She took a quick swig of whiskey, and then turned back to Lucy.
"My cards say something about danger, relationships, and cats."
"Cats? Wait, is happy dying or something?" She turned around to look at said cat, who was currently in the middle of challenging Pantherlily to a duel. "He seems fine. What about cats?"
"I don't know, babe. That's just what my card says."
Lucy sighed and started to get up. "Thanks, Cana."
       "Wait."
She turned around and faced Cana, who suddenly looked a lot more serious. "What is it?"
"Lisanna went out on a job, right?"
       "Yeah, what about i - "
She froze in her tracks. Cats. Relationships. Danger.
Lisanna could reequip into cat armor.
       "OH SHIT - "
       ---
She could hear footsteps echoing across the floor. The room was dark. She didn't know how much time had passed, or if it was even the same day or not.
God, she just wanted to see her friends again. Natsu, with his smile that could light everything up. Gray, with his sarcastic personality that was surprisingly sweet at times. Erza, with her fearful stance that went soft in a second when she heard of cake.
       And Lucy.
God, she missed Lucy so much.
She heard a loud bang outside of her room, and prepared herself mentally. If she was going to go down, she was going to go down fighting. She was a wizard of Fairy Tail.
       Click.
       "LISANNA!"
That voice. It sounded familiar. It sounded strangely like -
       "Lucy?" She whispered softly.
"LISANNA, ARE YOU THER - " Her voice got cut off suddenly, and she heard a thud.
"Lucy?" She whispered with more urgency. "Lucy, is that you? Lucy? Answer me!"
No no no no please tell me nothing happened to Lucy please tell me she's okay please tell me she won't be captured as well please -
No. Lucy was a capable wizard. Far stronger than she was. She could handle herself. If that was indeed Lucy, and not some hallucination the villains were making her hear, then she could take crae of it with ease.
       ___
       Lucy was struggling.
She was surrounded by wizards, all of them men over 6 feet. "LISANNA!" She called out.
After Cana told her about Lisanna, she immediately asked Mira where she went. Mira had managed to pinpoint her to this location, with words of 'be safe'. It took her about three hours to get there, and she had sprinted out of the train and probably knocked over five passengers.
It wasn't long before she found the villain's hideout. It was easy to spot since Virgo was digging holes all over the place and searching for them. She burst open the door and immediately got struck with a ton of magical bolts of lightning.
And now here she was, trying to stay alive.
She heard a soft whisper of "lucy?" from the other room. It was her! Thank god! She was alive!
Now, to deal with this small problem.
"You'll regret messing with us, girl." A man with blue hair and an eyepatch cracked his knuckles. "We'll teach you exactly what we do to pretty girls like you who don't know their place."
       "Oh really? And what's that?"
"This." The man charged at Lucy, hand open. The rest of the gang followed.
"Open, gate of the lion! Loke!"
With a scream, the man was knocked backward ten feet, and fell on his head. Loke had his hand outstretched. the floor in front of them was scorched.
"What would you like me to do to them, Lucy?" Loke said, glaring.
"Hmm... whatever you want." She turned to stare at them, and narrowed her eyes.
'I'll show you what happens to anyone who hurts my friends."
       ---
" - And then she burst into the room yelling my name." Lisanna finished recounting. "Romantic, right?"
Erza nodded in approval. "That's very brave. We need more wizards like you in Fiore."
Lisanna giggled and leaned against Lucy, who was rather red. "She's so brave."
"I mean, not really. I just did what anyone else would have done, you know, like, it's no big deal." She curled her fingers around Lisanna's hand. "Just rescuing my damsel in distress. Just like a fairy tale."
Lisanna laughed. "Just like a fairy tale, huh? That's a pretty weird fairy tale."
"Well, this guild isn't exactly known for being normal."
They stared at each other, and giggled.
"Well, maybe I like this fairy tale better than the rest."

C O B R A
Given the name I’m going to use FT as the fandom for this~
C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will.
Miralax. I mean... Miraxus. It was one of the first ships I ever put on my blacklist. The amount of things I’ve seen from fans of the ship back when I rped on tumblr... I can’t... I don’t have the strength...
O - Choose a song at random. Which ship or character does it remind you of?
"Heaven Knows” by Pretty Reckless - for the Had Bad Dads Trio? (Laxus/Gajeel/Cobra brotp) sorry the Had Bad Dads Trio is a name I’m never going to let die lmao
B - A pairing–platonic, romantic or sexual–that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind.
Zancrow/Cobra brotp, they’re such shits to each other and everyone else at the same time
R - Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favorite in fandom?
Natsu and his weird pseudo-sibling relationships with the other dragon kids
A - Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don’t have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed.
OTPs: Cojeel #1 OTP. Followed by Fraxus, Miracer, Stingue, Lucano (i’m gay leave me alone), Acnorena, Chendy, Doranhar, Totovia
BrOTPs: Wendy/the other dragonslayers, Erza/Cobra, Kinana/Cobra, Natsu/Lucy, Natsu/Gray, Pantherlily/Gajeel
Don’t let me go on about all of them... we will be here until all the spin offs are over...

You Can Talk to Me
Stomping down the forest path, Lucy fumed as she muttered under her breath. She couldn’t believe the nerve of the mayor withholding most of their pay because the town hall had been damaged. It wasn’t even Natsu’s fault this time! It wasn’t their fault that the monster had come into town and they’d had to fight it in the middle of the square!
--------
“LUCY! Watch out!!” Natsu shouted as the monster swung its tail towards the Celestial mage. Natsu’s eyes widened in horror as he watched from across the square. Loke dashed through, catching Lucy around her waist and tossing her towards the Fire Dragon Slayer just as the monster’s tail swept through the spot Lucy had just been standing. Loke went flying into the building destroying the roof and Lucy screamed his name as Natsu caught her just before she hit the ground. “NOOOOO” Lucy cried out, struggling to get out of Natsu’s tight grip. She pushed him away and ran towards the collapsing building looking for Loke. Natsu fell to one knee, shaking at her close call, before his eyes darkened and he sprang towards the monster that had dared to attack his Lucy.
--------
Trailing behind her, Natsu walked slower than normal. His head was down and he kicked the occasional pebble with his sandal. Every once in awhile he’d look up at the back of Lucy’s head, wince and look down again. Natsu was used to Lucy’s quick temper, but this had lasted hours now and he was at a loss on what to say or do that wouldn’t get him in more trouble with her. His chest tightened and he caught his breath, what if this time she can’t forgive me, shot through his head.
Happy was riding on Natsu’s backpack, clutching the pink strands of the Fire Dragon Slayer’s hair to keep his balance. His eyes flicked back and forth between Natsu and Lucy. “Natsu, do you think she wants one of my fish?” the little Exceed murmured to his friend.
“I don’t think that’s going to help this time Happy.” Natsu replied in a soft voice. They both watched the Celestial mage for a moment longer before glancing at each other again and sighing.
“Happy, what if she leaves us…”
“Lucy would never do that, she’s our family”
“But, she hasn’t said anything to us in hours now.”
Just ahead of the the Slayer and Exceed, Lucy was caught deep inside her own panicked mind. That job had been her last hope to pay her rent this month and she didn’t have enough now. Her landlady had been clear, if rent was late one more time she would be evicted.
Tears sprang to her eyes. She’d failed. She’d tried to live free from her father and his money and she’d failed. Loke had been hurt saving her and she’d failed. Lucy clutched the keys at her side and let the tears run down her face, too tired to let her pride stop them from falling.
Natsu stopped dead in the path as the scent of her tears reached him. Oh no.. no..
“Luce?” Heart pounding in his chest, Natsu spoke louder, hoping she would turn around and acknowledge him.
Lucy stumbled and Natsu leapt forward to prevent her fall, grabbing her by the shoulders and keeping her from hitting the path. Once he had her back on her feet, he couldn’t let go. Fear of what he would see on her face kept the Fire Dragon Slayer frozen in place.
Lucy rotated inside Natsu’s arms, burying her face in the warmth radiating from his chest. Natsu’s breath hitched as he felt her arms wrap around him, dragging him closer to her as her shoulders shook and she cried. He felt his fears ease a little as he held Lucy in his arms.
“Luce?” he repeated, hoping this time she would answer him.
“What am I going to do?” Lucy hiccupped against him, her voice muffled.
“What’s wrong Lucy?” Natsu rubbed his hands up and down her back slowly letting the heat from them seep into her, trying to comfort his best friend. He wanted so badly to tip her face up and kiss away the tears. Mavis, he hoped she’d return his love someday.
Lucy relaxed a little as Natsu’s heat soaked through her skin. Whether quick hugs, being caught in mid-air, or those butterfly inducing mornings when she was surprised to wake up with him tucked in bed next to her, being wrapped in Natsu’s warmth was the safest place she knew.
“I.. I’m going to lose my apartment…” Lucy managed to say in between small sobs. Natsu’s forehead wrinkled in confusion.
“Why would that happen?” he asked.
Lucy tilted her head back to look up at Natsu and replied “I don’t have enough to pay the rent and Mrs. Galley is out of patience with me. I’ve been late too many times and with all the damage we’ve done she isn’t willing to let me stay anymore. This job was my last chance and they didn’t pay us the full amount.”
Natsu’s stomach plummeted. They’d cost Lucy her home? “Oh Lucy, I’m so sorry!” he said as he tightened his arms around her. Natsu peeked over his shoulder at the blue Exceed on his back. Happy’s eyes were huge as he returned the look, this was worse than they’d thought.
Happy rose into the air. “I’ll find us a spot to set camp,” he said, flying off ahead of them. Natsu picked Lucy up in his arms and set off down the path behind Happy.
“Natsu?” Lucy questioned. It wasn’t that unusual for Natsu to carry her after a mission, but usually she rode on his back. The way he was holding her now was more intimate and she felt her face flush a little.
Natsu tried to answer her, but his throat was too closed up to do more than mutter a soft “I’ve got you,” as he pulled her close.
It took Happy no more than three minutes to find a clearing large enough for them just off the side of the path. Natsu followed him over to the site and set Lucy down carefully. Lucy turned away to wipe her eyes and compose herself while Natsu rested one hand on her shoulder. Both felt uneasy and weren't quite sure what to say.
Natsu stepped away knowing they needed a moment to collect themselves. “I'll get firewood if you have Virgo bring the tents.”
Lucy nodded and pulled out the golden key, summoning her trusted spirit. Together Lucy and Virgo swiftly put up the two tents while Virgo filled Lucy in on Loke’s condition. While Loke had been badly injured, he was healing well back in the Celestial Realm. “He’ll be fine with some punishment,” Virgo stated before patting Lucy on the shoulder and disappearing in a golden mist. Lucy shook her head, reasonably certain that punishment was not what Loke needed.
Happy and Natsu worked together quickly gathering enough wood for the night. They talked to each other about the bomb Lucy had just dropped on them. While they didn’t have a plan, they agreed that no matter what, they had to make sure Lucy stayed. In the past, Happy may have teased Natsu about it, but he understood that Natsu truly did LIIIIIIIIIIKE her and that if Lucy left it would devastate his Slayer. Happy had spent a lot of time talking to Gajeel and Pantherlily about Dragon Slayers and one of the many topics had been mates.Given his reaction to the very idea of Lucy leaving, Happy felt pretty confident that Lucy really was his mate. Natsu was a mess.
By the time Natsu and Happy got back, Lucy had cleared a spot for the fire. Natsu quickly created a bonfire and for the first time in hours Lucy smiled. She settled down across the fire from Natsu and watched the flames dance.
Natsu watched Lucy closely, seeing his flames reflected in her eyes. When he saw her shiver, he stood and moved in back of her. Settling down behind her, he tugged a little until she rested her back on him. Lucy curled her body up a little, soaking in the warmth radiating from both the fire and the Fire Slayer.
“We’ll figure out something Lucy. You know that right? You know that we’ll find a way to keep you with us. Fairy Tail wouldn’t be the same without you,” he stated.
“Aye!” added Happy as he settled into Lucy’s arms.
Lucy dipped her head in a slight nod. Now that Natsu had snapped her out of her spiraling thoughts, she knew that the guild would have her back. Natsu rested his chin on the top of her head, letting her scent surround and relax him. He could feel the tension leaving her body as she warmed up and calmed down.
Natsu felt a sense of peace drift over him holding the Celestial mage in his arms. It just felt so right having her tucked into him. “You could sleep with... “ he started and then paused, suddenly realizing what he was saying. Nerves froze his voice for a second before he shook his head a little to clear it. “You could stay with me,” he finally finished.
His arms gripped her as he fumbled out, “I mean.. You can have the room and I’ll sleep on the couch!” He closed his eyes, half expecting to be slapped.
“Really Natsu? You’d let me live with you?” Lucy was surprised.
“Yeah, of course! You mean every...” Natsu caught himself again. “I mean, the house isn’t big and it’s a mess, but I’ll clean it up for you. Just, don’t leave us... me.” His voice died off a little at the end.
Lucy stilled, having caught his quiet correction, was she really hearing what she thought she was hearing? She turned her head so that she could see his face and gasped at his expression. Lucy caught her lower lip between her teeth and his eyes snapped to it. Natsu’s eyes were wide open as he looked down at her and there was something behind them that she’d only ever dreamed of seeing. The partners stared at each other in silence, both barely breathing.
Happy wriggled in Lucy’s lap, mischief gleaming in his eyes, before he sprang up, shoving the back of Lucy’s head towards Natsu. The two were so close that the sudden motion caused their lips to brush against each other. Happy shot up into the air on his wings, knowing he needed to get out of Lucy’s reach after pulling that trick.
Quickly, he turning in mid-air to see what direction the attack was going to come from and nearly tumbled back to the ground in shock. Natsu had wrapped his arm around Lucy, angling his head and kissing her like he’d never let go while Lucy clung to him.
“Yes! Finally!” the little Exceed crowed before flying off into the trees to give them privacy. Not too far though, he needed to be able to share details with Gramps in the morning.

Nicknames
So I tend to nickname anime characters. It might be because I can’t remember their name or I’m too lazy to say their name or a lot of the time just for the hell of it and this is my list of every nickname I have ever given to an anime character. Some of these are outdated and not used any more, some characters have multiple names and I still use all of them, some are ones I started using today, couldn’t stop using and though ‘well hell, now that has to go on the list because it’s stuck’. Some are combination nicknames (for multiple characters as a group) and some are nicknames used for multiple characters separately to each other. After seeing those D&D posts you reblog, it got me thinking... D&D class headcanons for Fairy Tail characters? I’d do it myself but I know nothing about D&D
How about some general D&D headcanons, lmao
Sagittarius is a centaur ranger that rolled a nat1 at the beginning of the game and now the entire party thinks he’s a dude in a horse costume and can’t be convinced otherwise.
Sagittarius also dumped all his points into his accuracy but one good hit on him and he’s out for the count.
Lucy, a warlock, always gets hit but for some reason the DM consistently rolls low for enemy attacks so it’s a running joke that her clothes are taking all the damage.
Rogue plays... rogue.  Named Rogue.  Because he blanked when it came to naming his character.  He’s teased relentlessly about it.  Mostly by Sting.
Sting, meanwhile, is a paladin in service to Weisslogia, whom he consistently refers to as “Dad” instead of by his proper name.  He insists that the god doesn’t mind because if he did the Holy Dragon would have smote him by this point.  Has also tried to fight his god.
As a barbarian, Natsu ends a lot of fights with his battle rage.  Which lead to him gaining the majority of the EXP until the DM decided that it would be shared among the whole group instead of individually.
The Celestial Spirits can’t make it to sessions very often or for very long, but Lucy keeps the schedule of when they can come so it’s a running thing that they’re a part of her warlock contracts.
Natsu gave his character motion sickness, and constantly rolls low on constitution checks on moving vehicles.  What started as a joke became quite a liability as the game progressed.
Wendy is the only cleric and entered the game about halfway through.  Before that, the party got knocked out a lot.
Erza is their elderitch knight fighter and their main tank - even over Sting.  Pretty much nothing is able to damage her, except when she uses a skill to temporarily increase her attack by sacrificing her defense stat.
Happy isn’t a player character and neither is Carla - they’re the magical companions to Natsu and Wendy and are played by them.  Pantherlily, however, is a player character.
Laxus plays a super muscled sorcerer specializing in lightning magic.  The group thought it would be funny if Laxus was just as ripped in the game as he is in reality.
Mirajane and Gajeel are both bards, but for some reason Gajeel always rolls really low on performance checks.
Juvia another sorcerer, but she specializes in water spells.
Another person who blanked on their character name, Gray plays a monk.
I think that’s all I got for now.

Fairy Tail Fan Impressions: THE FINAL CHAPTER (545)
(Be aware; spoilers for the latest FT chapters can be found below!)
Me: Well...that’s that. The final chapter.
“I miss them so much, already!”
Me: Miss them so much more, than having NaLu and Jerza totally canon?
“Hey, you know they’re canon in their own way, and that’s what it is!”
Me: Well, I have no doubts about them, either. But you know the ones that totally are canon?
“...Like what?”
Me: ...Max and Broom.
“...Ohh, yeah! I thought you mean Gajevy, along with Alzack and Bisca.”
Me: Yeah, that one, too.
Well...ladies and gentlemen. This is it. This is the moment that most of you probably didn’t want to actually happen (just like I was), but were eventually ready to accept it. *takes a deep breath* Man, it still feels so strange to have it happen, despite still being into this series.
Anyway, here it goes. After 11 years of action-filled adventures, drama, angst, romantic/shipping moments—you name it...the final chapter has finally come, for Fairy Tail. And, with that, I bet many of you fans out there were wondering a few things that came to your mind, after Zeref and Acnologia were defeated. In fact, I even had them, from the previous FTFI post.
So, most of you were wondering about what’s in store for the penultimate chapter of FT: Did the chapter take place in a time-skip? What happened to the characters—major, and minor? And, finally, the one that a large part of you wanted to know...were the major ships actually confirmed?
Alright, so, let’s start off the first question there—and then work through the second one, by going through the chapter itself. Apparently, there wasn’t much of a time-skip in the actual chapter itself, where it usually takes around 8 or more years, for the final chapters of those other shounen manga works. The beginning of chapter 545 states that it takes place in August X793, only one year after the end of the war against Alvarez.
First, we see that there’s quite large crowd gathering in some sort of place. There’s a pretty good reason for that, ‘though, and that’s because they’re celebrating the success of one particular character that we’ve come to know, and love. Yes, they’re throwing a party that celebrates the success of Lucy Heartfilia, who has won an award for her most recent novel that she wrote!
I have to say that this is something I like, from this chapter here, because it actually shows that one of Lucy’s life-long dreams has been fulfilled. Despite her book not selling enough copies for her to become quite wealthy, she’s satisfied with the way she’s been chasing a personal goal of her own—and, managing to be successful from it. Not only that, but she’s also gained further recognition, from winning the prize. I like that...I really do.
Not only are the general public there for the celebrations, the whole freakin’ guild is also attending the party, as well! We get to see the moments that we’ve seen before, whenever the guild members are hanging at their building. We got Natsu and Gray causing a ruckus—followed by Erza doing a haymaker on them, to keep them from causing further chaos. We see some drunkeness, with Juvia not handling her alcohol well...and (as we’ll see later), Lucy, too.
Then, we get to see what happens to all the other characters...y’know, the ones who aren’t from the FT guild. We start things off, with Anna, of all people!
Now, I actually discussed about this, from one of my previous FTFIs, over whether or not Anna will meet with Lucy, especially in the final chapter. And, guess what? She actually does get to meet with her greatest grand-daughter, in this time and place!
It does get mentioned, from Lucy’s narration, that she found it ‘weird’ to see her ancestor from 400 years ago. However, it’s also mentioned that she does go to visit her, on some occasions. Furthermore, it’s revealed that Anna is now a school-teacher, in a small village somewhere. How nice is that?
And, then, we get to see an exchange between Natsu and Gajeel...in front of the two blonde Heartfilias. The only notable thing that stands out, in this scene, is Gajeel finding out something, after Natsu notes that both Anna and Lucy ‘have the same smell’. I think most of us know what that something is, too. ;)
Anyway, here’s more of what has happened to the other characters, since the end of the war. Good news, for those keeping track of Chelia Blendy, as she’s actually managed to regain her magic! This is happening, as Wendy and Carla are visiting the Lamia Scale guild, to perform for the Thanksgiving Day events over there.
Then, we see what happens to the folks at Sabertooth. Apparently, Minerva has won the eating contest of that year. I pity Sting and Rogue for this...
Elsewhere, with Blue Pegasus, Ichiya is actually elected as the guild master...by all the handsome men! Who knew that doing such heroics against a gargantuan threat of a dragon can get you that far?
Oh, and we see the three major girls of Mermaid Heel, as they’re all doing photo shoots for Sorcerer Magazine, all of them being ‘exclusive models’, for said weekly magazine.
After that, however...we get to see what happened to Jellal, and the people closely associated with him!
So, according to Lucy, she cuts to the chase, and explains that the King of Fiore—Toma E. Fiore—has abdicated the throne. As a result, Princess Hisui is crowned as Queen, in which she is able to establish a diplomatic relationship with the Alvarez Kingdom. Because of that, ‘though, it meant that all the members of Crime Sorciere—including Jellal—were pardoned for their past crimes against the country. Hisui, now the Queen leading the country, justifies her action, by stating that while she recognizes their past actions, she’s actually much more concerned about what entails for the future, moving forward.
Furthermore, the Queen tells them to ‘live for the future’—and Jellal can certainly recall this very phrase that’s familiar to him...which was originally spoken to him, by a certain red-headed female. Hmm, I wonder who’s that, exactly?
But, before I touch upon Jellal’s relationship with her—that’ll be covered, later on, in this post...let’s talk about Makarov!
Yes, the elderly Guild Master whom we’ve come to know, and admire, for the most part. So, we’ve all already heard what happened to him, in the Alvarez arc: He was thought to have died, after deploying Fairy Law, for what seemed to be the final time...and then, he somehow came back to life. Makarov, however, does appear in the final chapter, alright. Although, he’s now confined to a wheelchair, after the functioning of his legs got worse. Also, he’s quite sloshed, being surrounded by Doranbolt...and, a very disapproving Porlyusica—who doesn’t take it that well for him having alcohol, whilst recovering.
And then, we come back to all the other guild members, who are having quite the time of their lives, at the party: Pantherlily asking Jet and Droy where Gajeel and Levy are; Max having a not-so-dull moment with Warren, and somebody else, with a broom in hand; Macao and Wakaba chasing after a pretty woman, with Romeo lamenting to Asuka about it—not wanting to grow up, exactly like his father; Reedus painting for Alzack and Bisca; Finally, we have Nab spouting out something random...much to the annoyance of the others. This is all before Lucy finds herself entranced, as if everything that happened around her, were to be a dream...well, maybe not.
Okay, so with those first two questions answered, for the final chapter...we come to the third, and final one: were the major ships actually confirmed??
Before I cover all four major ships, I wanted to mention a couple of things, or so, which actually surprised me.
First, we have quite a brief moment in that sequence, where you’d miss it—if you skimmed past it. In the same panel where Nab spouts out something random, we see Laki Olietta talking to Kinana (yeah, remember her?). Laki, like some of us, is surprised at the fact that Kinana has, apparently, a boyfriend. Kinana tells her that his name is Erik.
I was actually surprised at this, because Mashima actually confirms this relationship between her, and Cobra. I mean, people have been suspecting this, for quite some time, given the (few and brief) moments regarding those two. It was just surprising that they actually are in this relationship, through only one small line of dialogue given by her. Personally, I can feel like I can get into this kind of ship—well, I mean, she was originally Cobra’s snake companion, in Cubelios...but, it somehow works out.
And then, there’s Laxus. I think that a lot of fans and readers out there have shipped Laxus with more than one character. There’s folks shipping Laxus with Mira (one of my favourite pairings of FT, to be honest), there’s also folks shipping him with Freed, and there are others who like to ship him with Cana. In this particular chapter here, we see that two of those three aforementioned Laxus pairings actually do get mentioned by Lucy! However, what I didn’t even think of, when it comes to shipping Laxus with somebody...it would be shipping him with Lisanna! Seriously, do people ship him with her? I dunno, but it’s something remarkable that was tacked on by Mashima.
On the other side of things, ‘though, I believe Mashima himself may have acknowledged that people are shipping Laxus with Lisanna’s older sister. It’s especially when Lucy notes that the rumours of them being together have ‘circled around for a while’. Yeah, I’m willing to bet that Mashima acknowledges those kinds of shippers.
Now, what’s even more surprising to me, is the appearance of Zeref and Mavis! Or, as they’re now called...‘Arius and Mio’. Yes, I was quite surprised, as you were. Most of us were surprised. Hell, even the more-prominent guild members attending the party were, as well! Considering how their relationship with each other had went, recently in the story...it was rather astonishing to see them, in the final chapter. Granted, they’re actually reincarnates (or doppelgangers, the way I see it) of the original duo—but, I can’t help but think why Mashima would include those two, anyway and anyhow.
Oh, and then, we have Elfman and Evergreen together in one panel. Really, Bickslow and Freed make note of this, even in jest. However, Lucy apparently ships them, too!
Okay, with all that being mentioned...here’s what happens to the four major couples, in this chapter. Let’s start with Gajeel and Levy, as they’re the more obvious ones to be together.
Now, I was squealing and screaming at this part involving them—alright, I was actually overly-excited inside my mind, instead of that...but, seriously, it is a pretty significant scene involving both of them! I mean, they’re a foregone conclusion for sure, considering what happened to them, for the past few hundred chapters, or so. You also have to consider that their future children were featured in a light novel, too...so, that helps!
As for the scene in question...so, we have Gajeel meeting up with Levy, and she has something to tell her. *dramatic gasp* What could it be?! Well, given by Gajeel’s reaction to what she had to say to him, and with Lucy (and Wendy) inferring things...I think it’s safe to say that either: A) Levy’s telling him that there’s a bun (or two) in her oven—or, B) she wants to have those children with him. Either way is okay with me, because, just like everybody else...I already know that they’ll still be together for the foreseeable future.
Then, we move on to Gray and Juvia. Again, just like what happened with Gajeel and Levy, they’re a little bit more obvious. For this chapter, we see that Gray has to deal with Juvia, after she’s had more than enough to drink. Pulling her to somewhere else, just to be by themselves, Gray initially scolds her for what had just happened, before he notices that there’s a scar on her body. Juvia then points out that he also has a scar on his body, too. And, before you know it...Gray theorizes aloud (right in front of her!), and struggles with it. Much to the love-filled delight of Juvia, of course. Also, Wendy is the one to hear these kinds of things again, dragon senses, and all.
If Gray and Juvia being together isn’t as obvious, as shown in this final chapter, then I don’t think nothing will. Ever since their first encounter with each other, fighting as enemies (instead of friends), the two of them have slowly and gradually become closer towards each other, as the time goes on. I think what really solidified them together as a couple, would be from the fallout of the war against Tartaros. I mean, it still makes sense for them to be together; Gray’s magic complements Juvia’s magic, and vice versa. I don’t think there’s any sort of skepticism or doubt, as to how legit their relationship is, with each other. Sure, the development of their relationship isn’t like what is usually expected in works of fiction, but the fact remains that they are still together, and that Gray now (at least) reciprocates her feelings towards him.
Alright...so what about Jellal and Erza, in this one? Now, I know that a large part of you Jerza shippers wanted the both of them to have a happier outcome to their relationship—either they get engaged, married, or something quite significant of that magnitude. However (and this also applies to Natsu and Lucy, which I will get to, in a moment), just because you expect these things to happen...it doesn’t necessarily mean that they will happen.
As Lucy explains it, in this chapter, it sorta gets a little murky at first. However, she does mention that, with news of Jellal being pardoned had finally arrived, Erza now spends her time brushing her hair every day. This is rather symbolic, because you have to recall back to how her relationship with him started. Around the time when the both of them were enslaved as children, Jellal actually complimented about her hair. I mean, he still does this, on the few occasions where they’d meet afterward. But, I think this was a nice touch that Mashima did, in terms for the two of them.
When you put Jellal’s reaction to the insistence that he should live for the future (which I mentioned earlier, above) together, it does make quite some sense. Sure, we didn’t get to see a kiss, a proposal, a marriage, or anything significant like that...but, it’s still considered symbolic for the both of them, based on their moments in this chapter. I thought it was good enough for that couple.
And now, here’s the part of the post that you’re probably waiting for: My thoughts on Natsu and Lucy, for this chapter!
Before I can even express what most shippers (and readers) find to be ‘controversial’, with Natsu and Lucy...let’s go through exactly what happened in the chapter, that led up to this.
So, the party’s long over, and it’s all been a distant memory...or a dream, as Lucy thought it to be. Waking up in her apartment unit, she discovers that this was no dream. Then, she discovers another thing: Natsu and Happy being in her apartment, like all those other times before. However, they’re there in her unit, for a reason—he had to carry her back to her home, after she had collapsed from alcohol-induced drunkeness (mainly from Cana!). We get to see what actually happened from there, as Natsu helped her to change into lighter clothes, and Lucy letting them sleep closer to her sides, for the night.
Of course, Lucy herself (now in her sober state) is completely ashamed by it. But then, we see Natsu telling her to join him on a job of sorts. This is actually where we get to see one of the more significant parts about them—the other one being the more ‘controversial’ one. After she reminisces of the moments they shared together, from the start of the story, Lucy tearfully approaches him. And, before you know it...she hugs him, and embraces him! *fanboy squealing, a la Steve Dangle*
Right from the bottom of her heart, Lucy is thanking for him everything—and that she would not have lived through any of this, without him. Isn’t that so sweet? And, look at this! Natsu returns her hug! Look, I must apologize for this, but I couldn’t help it; I actually do like these two, as a pairing. This is something that I’ve come to totally admire about them, especially when Natsu comforts her in a way that no other guy can!
Aaaand, we get right into the controversy!
So, Lucy just admitted her feelings towards him. Now, what is he going to do next? Well, for starters, he grabs onto her arms, telling her that he also wants to say something to her, too. But, what is it? What is that something?? Lucy also wants to know this too!
Just when she expects something different from him...Natsu drags her along for their next adventure! Lucy is, understandably, pissed off by this...but Natsu somehow knows this. He then tells her, just before they set off for their new journey, that ‘we’ll be together forever, from now on’.
Now, I’ve seen the many reactions by a lot of folks, who have stumbled across this. Many of which, who are NaLu shippers, were initially upset over how it went, for the two of them. Maybe it’s because, like Lucy, they expected Natsu to return her feelings, by either kissing her, or proposing to her. Then, we have more of the same—only, this time, there was a heapin’ amount of doubt and skepticism over whether NaLu is canon or not, based on this.
Look, I’m going to get this out of the way, and express personally that I think Natsu should have reciprocated her feelings, by kissing her. It doesn’t have to be a kiss on the lips, maybe a kiss on the cheek (or forehead) would be fine!
With that aside, I can understand why a large number of readers, especially NaLu shippers, are upset by this. However, you have to consider what Natsu went through, during the war against Alvarez. He had to fight Zeref, discover that he was E.N.D. the whole time, had to fight his best friend in Gray, had to be on the verge of death—due to the dragon and demon seeds, had to be told that Makarov was (seemingly) dead, had to fight Zeref yet again—and being on the verge of death again, before having to finally fight Acnologia once and for all. I think it’s fair to say that Natsu has been through quite the ordeal, in such a small amount of time...and that he needs to recover from having those very experiences.
Also, it’s important to know that Fairy Tail isn’t just about romance. As much as we all like to see those kinds of moments between the two characters we ship, this isn’t what Fairy Tail is supposed to be. It’s about friendship, sacrifice, adventure, and action, too. It would’ve been also considered too out-of-character for Natsu, considering that he doesn’t usually express those kinds of romantic feelings towards anybody.
Then, you have the other side—mainly doubters and skeptics—who argue that NaLu isn’t canon, because of this scene. In fact, they even claim that their relationship is a fully-platonic one. I also understand why they’re arguing this. However, if I have anything to say to that group, I would tell them to look at every single moment that the both of them are involved, from the start of the story. Take a careful, closer look at every single one, and tell me that they are still in a platonic relationship.
For what I know, Natsu still cares for Lucy more than anybody else...and that Lucy also does care for him more than anybody else, too. Sure, there wasn’t anything that significant to suggest that they are official—but, when you consider about how Lucy felt for him right there, and that Natsu told her ‘we’ll be together forever, from now on’...it does seem significant, in a symbolic way, doesn’t it? To suggest that they’re in a platonic relationship, without going deeper into the moments involving those two, would be considered ignorant of the contrary. So, you doubters and skeptics out there can eat it (or as The Fonz would say, “sit on it!”)!
So, what do I really think of this whole debacle? Well, at first, I really did thought Natsu should’ve at least return her feelings, with a gesture that complements it the best (the kiss on the cheek, or forehead, that I mentioned about, earlier). However, after looking through the arguments of some readers...I’ve come to agree with it, and that I’m okay with the way things were, for Natsu and Lucy. There may not have been a romantic kiss or proposal involved, but it was still a symbolically-significant moment for both of them. Maybe this scene could get addressed, in the upcoming anime adaptation. The only question, is whether this scene gets kept, or will there be something else?
Now that I’ve discussed about everything, answering all three of the questions at the same time...what do I think of this penultimate chapter, overall?
Well, I thought this final chapter provided closure that was good enough, for almost all the characters involved. However, there were a few questions that I have, afterward. Chief among them, was Aquarius’ key, and what happened to it. Before, it was stated by Lucy that she wanted to look for it—but that never got addressed, in the final chapter. I’m hoping that matter would be resolved, either through a light novel, a spin-off manga, or in the upcoming anime series.
Also, there’s the matter of the surviving 12 Spriggans. Whatever happened to them? Again, I’m hoping that they’ll be featured in the new anime adaptation, somewhere around the end of it.
And then, there’s the question of who’s actually the Guild Master for Fairy Tail. We know that Makarov is still kicking around, in the final chapter...but, considering what had happened in that arc, nobody actually knows if he’s still the Guild Master by now, or if anybody is. Hopefully, this sort of confusion gets sorted out, by the author himself, soon.
Aside from those concerns, I’m satisfied with the way the story ended, especially with Natsu and the gang going on the Hundred-Year Quest that was previously unfulfilled by Gildarts. It leaves the ending open as much as it can, allowing for any spin-offs, light novels, or anything (hell, maybe a sequel!) that would be based upon.
Now that the story’s been finally over, I’m now getting myself a little bit gloomy again. 11 years of quite a wonderful, and adventurous journey, for everyone involved. But, what does this actually mean for me, after it’s already over?
Well...to tell you honestly: Despite being into this series for almost four years, I’m still interested in it, to this very day! In fact, I can say that this is still the beginning for me, as I have yet to come across every single thing about Fairy Tail. I have yet to finish both anime adaptations in their entirety—let alone, the two movies, and the O.V.A.s that I haven’t seen yet! There’s also a whole bunch of fanart and fanfics that I haven’t shared with all of you, yet...including a few lemon fics (almost all of them focusing mainly on NaLu). What I’m trying to say is: I will still commit to the FT fandom around here, as much as I can.
As for how much longer I will still be into the series, ‘though...it may be longer, it may be shorter. I’ll be the one to decide for myself, on how much longer I’ll stay on board, with this fandom.
Before I end this post, I want to thank everybody in the FT fandom around here, for their generosity and support. You are the ones who have brought us those wonderful fanart, and you are the ones who have provided us hours upon hours of fanfiction to read. You are the ones who have stuck through the tough times, and whatever worse things that came your way. Best of all...you are the ones who have brought this entire fandom on the map of all fandoms here on Tumblr—and without your support, all of this would not have been made possible. In fact, I would not have been a long-time fan of this series, if it weren’t for you guys! So, to everybody who’s been part of the FT fandom around here—past, and present...I salute to you all—and here’s to a better future for this fanbase!
“Aww, that was a pretty good speech! Nice work!”
And so, I must conclude this FTFI, on a proper note. That is it, for this post; a huge thanks to those who have read this, from the top. Click on the heart, if you like this post; hit that ‘Follow’ button to follow my blog; re-blog this to all of your friends...and the adventure never ends here. In fact, I will leave you with this passage that’s been used at the start, and the end, of this story, here:
“Do fairies have tails? Do they not? Do fairies even exist? Do they not? This eternal mystery will continue as an eternal adventure...and that’s the origin of the guild’s name...and beloved friends.”

Must Love Cats- Chapter One
Levy hadn't planned on being a pet sitter when she'd moved into the city. She also hadn't planned on pet sitting for a sex god either, but here she was.
AKA the one where Levy is a pet sitter, Gajeel is her client, and Lily is the glue that binds them together.
So it turns out y’all really liked the idea of the Pet Sitter!AU, which is good, because I really liked it too. I’ll most likely shoot for updating this thing once a week. (Most likely on Wednesdays given they’re my days off.) But this week we’ll make an exception since Chapter One doesn’t really count since it’s just the prompt from the Gajevy Week Challenge that got us onto this idea to begin with. Expect the actual new chapter within the next day or two! Also, I love to get feedback, so if at any point you’d like to throw me some constructive criticism or some love, hit a girl up! Thanks in advance for swinging by, and a special shoutout and thank you to those who read the original warmup prompt from the Gajevy Week and asked for more! Y’all the true MVPs and this one is for you <3
******************************
As far as jobs went, being a pet sitter wasn’t all too bad. Sure, the days were long if you actually wanted to make any money, and the driving all over the place sucked, but the freedom of being able to work when you wanted and to be paid to hangout with other people’s pets honestly made up for it. Levy had been a pet sitter for about six months now and while she certainly hadn’t moved into the city to do it, it was paying the bills while she was pitching her movie ideas around town. Weirdly enough, she’d ended up pet sitting for big names in the industry and though she never actually met any of them– they probably wouldn’t need her services if they were home– it did seem pretty cool to know she was still just one degree away.
The house she was currently headed to was one of her regulars. The owner, one Mr. Gajeel Redfox, had been gone for about two months now and requested that he have the same sitter as much as possible. Given that she worked six days a week, the man’s visits ended up on her schedule more often than not. She was going to really miss seeing Pantherlily almost everyday when his owner finally returned. (Now that she thought about it, she was sure he was supposed to be home soon.) He almost felt like her cat at this point. In fact, she almost felt like she even knew this Redfox character too. She could deduce from the dark furniture, clothes abandoned in various areas around the apartment, and lack of sentimental items such as photos that he was most likely a bachelor. A bachelor with money given he had an apartment overlooking the ocean with walls made entirely of windows just to look out over them, and the ability to pay for visits twice a day for two months straight. She quickly did the math in her head as she pulled into a guest parking spot in the parking garage for the man’s apartment complex and shuddered. She could pay her rent in her apartment with her three roommates for almost five months with what he’d paid for the visits for so long.
“Must be nice,” she mumbled to herself as she hopped out of her car. Locking the door and clipping her keys to her belt loop– she had a really nasty habit of locking her keys in her car and learned this was the best way to avoid anymore unfortunate incidents– she pushed her sunglasses to the top of her head and on top of her scarf she had had tied around her azure hair to keep it pulled back. Walking into the lobby through the door in the garage, she nodded to the man at the counter as she sauntered by. He’d stopped having her sign in after a few weeks, knowing full well that she had the code to the lockbox on the Redfox residence’s door and that if she did do something terrible the security could easily apprehend her. (Her small frame was both a blessing and a curse with this job, not that she would ever steal from a client, but it would be nice to know she could at least have a small semblance of a chance to get away if she did.)
She got into the elevator and pressed the button for the 5th floor and waited for the short ride up. Levy admired herself in the reflection of the mirrored elevator, and chuckled to herself as she took in her disheveled hair that tried to escape her scarf, the worn jeans with a stain from an earlier visit and her shirt emblazoned with her company’s logo. The first time she’d arrived to this visit she had been so self conscious and had felt so out of place. She had been certain that for a second the people at the front must have thought she was a homeless person wandering into their lobby, especially since she distinctly remembered she hadn’t showered that day and had pulled on her oldest pair of sneakers and some sweats. It wasn’t like the pets cared if she tried, but had she’d known she was going to end up some place like this, she would have at least brushed her hair. How quickly that had changed with time. Now she felt almost like she was returning to her own home. It helped that she always started her days and ended her days with Lily. It was just a short walk from the elevator to the front door, where she quickly pushed the numbers into the box so she could open the little door that would allow her to get the key.
As she started to unlock the door, she heard the purring that signaled the black cat was awaiting her just on the other side and the sound filled her with joy. His owner wasn’t one to respond to updates, but he had replied once and all he had said was that Lily didn’t like just anybody. That was pretty obvious just by looking over the updates that had been sent in on the days Levy didn’t work as the sitter that covered her shifts when she wasn’t working had yet to meet Lily at all.
“Hello handsome,” she cooed as she pushed her way into the apartment. The Bombay purred again in response as he started to rub himself against her legs. Squatting down, she started to pet him to make sure he remembered that even though his owner still wasn’t home he was still very much loved. “You’re the best way to end the day, ya know.”
“So I’ve been told,” a deep voice replied. Now, Levy liked to think she was very rational. When faced with a problem, she was very level headed, and thought through every possible scenario of what could happen and every possible solution to find the right one. But in that moment, the only possible explanation that came to her mind was that Lily had just responded to her. Which, was definitely new to say the least. She stared at the cat wide-eyed for a fraction of a second longer before the logical part of her brain realized she wasn’t the only human in the apartment. An inhuman squeak that could probably only be heard by Lily and any other animals in the close vicinity escaped her lips as her head snapped up to see a very tall, very muscular, and very half naked man standing in the entrance between the living area and the bedroom where Lily’s stuff could be found. He had long black hair that looked almost as unruly as hers was, eyes that seemed to stare straight through her, and more piercings than should could count. (And that was just from what she could see. Not that she was thinking about any she might not be able to see. Except, he was very attractive.)
“I-” she started, before locking eyes with the man and completely losing her train of thought. After another couple of seconds she just placed her hand on her chest and said “Pet sitter.”
Wow Lev, she thought to herself as dryly as one can possibly think to themselves, you write entire movies with their own worlds and characters and you can’t even string together a full sentence. There was another long pause before the man burst out into raucous laughter.
“I am so sorry,” he said, smiling at her. His smile was like the smile of a devil, beautiful and dangerous. “I forgot to inform your office that I was getting home early and that I didn’t need the visit this evening.”
This was when she should respond, she knew that. It was just that that damn smile had erased any thoughts from her mind, at least all the ones that wouldn’t get her in trouble for saying out loud. Even that annoying ass voice in her mind was dumbfounded. It was possible that since it had been so long since she’d even had any contact with the opposite sex, but he was the single most sexy human being she had ever seen. It was that, or she was cat sitting for an actual sex god. That was also a possibility. After everything they’d been though, you’d have thought Lily would have told her.
“Since you’re here, if you want you can still spend the 30 minutes with him. You don’t need to feed him or anything, I already took care of that,” the sex god continued, apparently unaware he had the power to strike mere mortals speechless. “You must be the girl he seems to love. He’s a great judge of character, you know.”
That snapped her out of the trance as a smile broke across her face.
“Thanks!” She beamed in response. “I love this little guy. I’m not supposed to pick favorites, but between you and me, he’s mine.” She stage whispered at the end and winked. Oh god, what had even gotten into her. She looked back at Lily and smiled at him as well before scratching behind his ears. Had she continued looking at his owner, she’d have seen the blush that spread across his cheeks.
“Well, make yourself at home, I suspect you know where water is if you’d like to have some,” Gajeel said. “I just got back and was headed for the shower, feel free to leave early if you want, just lock up when you go.” She nodded in response as he turned to go back into the room. She sat down next to Lily, who at this point had laid down and rolled over to get his belly scratched. “Oh, and Levy?” Her heart leapt when she heard her name roll off his tongue.
“Yeah?” She asked, looking up. The man smiled that damn smile again.
“Thanks for taking such good care of Lil while I was away. I know I’m not supposed to pick favorites either, but between you and me, you’re mine.”
And with that, he went back into his room, unaware that he had just completely stopped her heart and left her there like she wasn’t going to need medical attention. Once she heard the water turn on in the bathroom, she looked down at Lily, who was looking up at her and wondering why she’d stopped scratching his belly.
“You really could have warned me about your owner looking like that.”
****
He knew that the sitter would be gone by the time he got out of his shower, but that didn’t stop him from being slightly disappointed when he got out of his shower and saw Lily curled up on the foot of his bed all by himself. He didn’t want to say he was jealous of a fucking cat, but here he was jealous that his cat got to spend so much time with such a breathtaking human being.
“God dammit, Lil,” he growled as his heart stuttered when he thought of her wink. “You really could have warned me about your sitter looking like that.”

Remember Me: Novice.3
Previous Chapter
Natsu was rather down about it, Navi being gone and all, but Lucy and Happy convinced him that he simply needed to go out on a job himself, put his mind off it. He agreed, but only one that seemed to be short. He wanted to be there, after all, when she got home. Lucy was glad to find Lisanna home, having just finished her shift at the guild, and the woman easily agreed to watch the twins for them for a couple of hours (she, after all, had Ajax anyways), allowing the celestial mage to accompany her husband and the Exceed.
They decided to eat a quick meal at the guildhall before leaving though, which is what they were doing when they were approached by a very serious Marin and Kai.
"Salamander," the boy greeted with a nod. "Navi's mom. Happy."
Lucy frowned some, at the children, but Happy and Natsu, both pleased with their titles, only nodded in return at him.
"Did you need something?" she asked. "Navi's with your brother and sister. So-"
"On a job," Kai agreed. "Like we are. Right now."
"Really?" Happy was pleased for the children. "Wow! Who hired you guys?"
"Aunt Lissy," Marin told them.
"Is somethin' botherin' her?" Natsu thought hard, trying to place the last time he spoke with Lisanna. "Why didn't she ask for my help?"
"Considering she pawned it off on them," Lucy remarked softly, "I doubt that it's that serious."
"It's plenty serious!" Kai didn't like the insinuation of otherwise. "There's a thief in our midst!"
"Really?" Lucy still seemed skeptical. "And Lisanna went to you?"
"We're mages too." He sounded whiny then. "And Marin's a dragon slayer! So she's super strong. Probably stronger than you, Navi's mom."
"I do have a name."
Everyone did. He just wasn't great with them.
"What does it have to do with us, anyways, huh?" Natsu finally truly addressed the children. Kai chalked it up to the slayer connection. Really, he was just tired of them ruining his meal. "We didn't steal anything."
"At least me and Natsu didn't," Happy agreed. "Navi's mom though, who knows about her?"
Lucy only ignored him though as she asked, "What was stolen? Marin?"
'Well, Aunt Lissy said her cleaning stuff went missing," Marin began slowly. 'And then Mommy said that she had noticed some bottles from behind the bar were gone. And towels that had been washed before, when she left the hall, were turning up used. And then Ms. Kinana said that she did feel like she could hear someone, sometimes, late a night when she was-"
"You don't have a thief." Then, truly, slayer to slayer, he informed Marin, "You have a ghost."
"A what?"
"Natsu," Lucy told him with a frown.
"I'm serious, Luce." He even nodded his head. "You kids got a ghost. On your first job. Imagine the luck!"
"Yeah!" Happy, who'd been standing on the table before, jumped into the air at the thought. "Mages and ghost hunters? You're going to have a huge resume!"
"There isn't a ghost," Lucy told the kids with a frown at her husband. Kai seemed rather excited at the idea, but Marin far more relieved at the celestial mage insisting this. "Ghosts aren't real."
"Ghost are very much so real," Happy insisted to the pair. "What would Navi's mom know?"
"About spirits?" she asked with a raised eyebrow. "Really, Happy?"
The cat only slowly fell back down to the table as his wings dissipated. To Kai and Marin, he said simply, "Good luck on your job. Maybe Lucy's right, maybe it's not ghosts." But he winked at that, because it definitely was, and wow, Kai was going to need to reevaluate this situation if this was all true.
Marin was going to have to reevaluate a lot more though, if it were. Like how hard it would be to back out of a job…
In Haiko, the children were deep in their own mystery as, though their guards were still up, when they were welcomed in by the new purported mayor of the city, they only agreed. He reenacted the barrier though, before leading them to the residence.
"Here," he said before allowing them entry, producing from his pocket some folded pieces of cloth. "You will want to wrap these around your faces. It is not a...pleasant scent that awaits you, passed this door."
It was already hitting them, honestly. Navi, after having lived with her father, an Exceed, and two little babies for so long didn't think she could ever be bothered by strong stenches, but gosh, she was wrong.
"What is it?" Haven asked as each child, without question, did as they were told. It could have been a trap, of course. Ether soaked, potion dipped, anything really. It wasn't, but it could have been. A learning curve. The cloths had been soaked in something though. Peppermint oil. No doubt to attempt to conceal the stench.
It did little to help.
"We've been trapped inside of this building for weeks," the man told her simply, "for fear of an attack."
"Yeah, well, try not stealing a city from people in need then," Ravan retorted. The situation was a bit hard to follow, but he was nearly certain that was what was going on. Maybe. "Then you won't get attacked."
"Steal a city? Who has stolen anything?" And the man wrapped a cloth around his face as well before they entered. "I am as I told you. The Mayor of Haiko. If anything, it is us who are under attack."
He was opening the door then, allowing the children their first glance inside. It wasn't pretty. The building seemed filled to the brim with people, some fit and fine, sure, but many were stretched out across blankets and mats, diseased and sickly as they coughed and hacked, buckets at the sides of many and the well scurrying around the room to tend to as many as possible.
"And these," he told the children with a soft, sad sigh, "are my poor citizens."
"What's happened to them?" Navi asked quietly though all three children hung back. Ravan most of all. He'd seen sickness wipe out a village, back in his days on the coast. Whatever was going around was not something he wished for. And when Haven took a step forwards, to follow the mayor deeper into the mansion, he only reached over and grabbed her arm, tugging her back. "What's really going on here?"
Noting the children's hesitance, the mayor turned back to look at them. "No one here is contagious any longer. Honest. The quarantine was quite effective in that regard. Once the fever dissipates, the body is merely left extremely weak and has a complex road back to what it once was."
Haven jerked away from Ravan then, taking that step forwards then. "This doesn't make any sense. If you're the one that requested our help-"
"I very much so have. You are Fairy Tail, are you not?"
"We are," she assured him. "But there was a man, in the city, who we met with. He told us that he was the mayor and that it was you who have trapped yourselves in here, refusing to vacate-"
"That man is not the mayor!" He huffed did, the assumed true one before them. "The men out there, they ran my people out of their homes, out of their businesses. After the capital refused our call for aid, they arrived, claiming to be a guild who could assist us. We were still under quarantine, but he insisted that he had mages who would solve all our ailments. What was I to do? Other than let them in. And now...now..."
"How do we know that you're the real mayor?" Ravan asked. Still, he hung near the entrance. "Huh? And not him?"
"Look around, boy." The man gestured to those laid about. "Who would fake this? And why?"
"Why," Navi found a question of her own, "would he want your town anyways? What's so special about this place? What would a dark guild even want-"
"I don't presume to know the minds of the evil and vindictive, child." Then he sighed. "Whatever it is that they wish for our city, surely it is misguided. There is nothing here to offer them. Not even protection, truly. I hope that you wizards are able to right this mess for us and drive these invaders out of our city."
The kids looked between themselves then. His story felt real to them, in that moment, but the one that they'd been given by the other man, back in the town, had felt equally as truthful. And yet…
"Locke." Haven had a sinking feeling. "We have to go check on Locke. We left him with the others. If they are not who they say they are-"
"You gotta drop the barrier, again," Navi told the mayor. "And quickly."
He only shook his head at them though. "Come closer. Show me your emblems, so I can be sure of you. Then I will add you as exceptions to my barrier and you can pass through it freely."
They did so once more, for the man they now recognized as the Mayor of Haiko, who in turn granted them the enchantment of freewill.
"Return," was his only command, "when you have secured our city."
But Haven didn't care about his stupid city any longer. No, she was far more concerned with the fact they very well might have just left Locke all alone with the enemy.
His father was worried over him as well, back home. Or at least wishing for him then Levy was making him sit there, listening as Erza's dumb brat and the Master's only slightly less dumb brat grilled him on his whereabouts the night before.
"We have a thief, Mr. Black Steel," Kai told him with an angry gaze. "Or a ghost. I'm not asking much. Just for a full history of where you were the day before. And you can't answer me! Everyone else knows where they were last night. But you. It's pretty suspicious, don't you think?"
"Look, you little brat-"
"I dunno, Gajeel," Pantherlily agreed as Levy, thoroughly enjoying the entire charade, only sat at the man's side, hiding a giggle into her palm. "The boy makes a point. It is suspicious."
"Why are you all houndin' me? Huh? And what authority do these kids even have over me anyways?" Huffing, the man looked Kai dead in the eyes as he said, "If you don't scram right now, I'll whack ya one. It would do you good, anyways. Little runt."
"This is a job handed down directly by guild staff," Kai threatened as Marin, seated on the side of the table with him, only threw her hands over her eyes, peeking through her fingers as she watched in sick anticipation. She didn't want Kai to get 'whacked' by Gajeel, but at the same time, it would at least be interesting to see. The suspense was killing her. "Mrs. Lissy and Mrs. Master both told me that this is my job to get to the bottom to. If you're not gonna cooperate, well, I might just have to-"
"Kai."
He froze too, at the sound of the only voice he feared.
"What are you doing?"
Erza was back, it seemed, coming to collect him no doubt. It was getting late and she'd probably just finished her final workout of the night.
He only grinned sheepishly though as she came to stand before the table.
"Are you bothering Gajeel and Levy?" she questioned as Marin still only peeked through her fingers at the swordswoman. "Instead of learning your magic?"
"I'm on a job, Erza."
"A job?"
"Lisanna thinks that someone's been stealing stuff, or something, around the guild," Levy explained for the boy with an easy grin. She was actually rather enjoying the kids. Sort of. Kai could always be a bit much and she usually found herself just feeling sad for Marin, but watching her husband get so worked up was always enjoyable. "So Kai and Marin are gonna get to the bottom of it for her and Mirajane."
"It can be a thief," Kai told the woman, "or a ghost. Or a mixture. But that's what I'm here to figure out."
"Well, I ain't either," Gajeel told the boy with a heavy glare. "So you better just start barking up another tree."
"I will not," the little boy went right back to his interrogation voice (it was quite scary, if Marin did say so herself), "until you have answered the questions. Don't make me go to Master with this."
"You can't," Mirajane sighed as she passed by with a tray of beers for a nearby table, "go to Master with this."
"Don't make me go to Mrs. Master with this," Kai revised. "And I dunno if you know this, but Marin here's a dragon slayer. That probably means she's stronger than you."
"I," Gajeel growled at him and oh, did he wish for his son then, his sensible, respectful son, "am a dragon slayer! And not one of those fakes, like your little friend here."
"You are?" Kai considered this new information. He'd been standing, practically, from his side of the table, and only sat back on his but then on the bench. "Well, from one slayer to a fake slayer, do you think you can pass the info off on Marin? That'll clear things right up and I can remove you from my list of suspects."
Gajeel was seething and Erza, with a roll of the eyes, move to grab the boy back of his collar and pull him out of his seat.
"Come," she ordered Marin. "It is time to go home."
"It's alright," Kai assured Marin as Erza none too lightly dropped him back down to the ground. "We'll finish our interrogations tomorrow."
Not to mention, it would give him a good chance to prepare for what he truly thought was at the root of all the problems. Ghost hunting had never been something he was called to do, but oh, he was going to throw his all at it in the morning.
The sunset was on the horizon in Haiko as well as the three children rushed down the empty streets, hoping to find their friend as quickly as possible. The whole situation was still a bit fuzzy for each child, but they knew there was a high chance they'd just fed poor Locke to the wolves.
All the eyes they'd felt on them before were absent then as no one peeked out at them from the building windows. The place had felt deserted before, but it was completely empty now. As they made it back to the building they'd previously been in, they found they could enter, but in vain. Locke and whoever that man were had long vacated, along with all those supposed townspeople.
"Haven," Navi whispered after they'd searched the apartment building top to bottom, calling out for their friend, eventually meeting back on the bottom floor in defeat. "What are we going to do?"
She didn't know. And she really didn't like how Ravan and Navi kept looking at her as if she should. But she couldn't tell them that. Laxus wouldn't say that, if he were there. He'd know what to do, honestly, probably, but even if he didn't, he'd still act as if he did. Obviously. Always.
So she had to pretend too. Even though she had no clue.
"We'll search the town," she told them. "Duh. It's not like they'd have gone far. If they're trying to keep those people trapped in the barrier, they wouldn't leave. They must be around here somewhere. Or close by. Or...or… They just have to be."
And they did. She knew it. Because whether they were the good guys or the bad guys, it made no sense that they would flee when there was so much going on at the moment. They were somewhere. Wtih Locke.
"We should split up," Haven told them outside.
"You should never," Ravan glared, "split up."
"We have to find Locke."
"I know that. But-"
"Then you go that way, I'll go this way, and Navi- Navi, wait!" Haven was mostly annoyed that she was going in the opposite direction than the one she'd planned to point the other girl in. Annoying. "Where are you going?"
But she didn't stop to explain and, with a growl, Haven rushed after her. Ravan, who never wished to split up in the first place, was glad to find an easy remedy. All three raced through streets now, zagging down different ones, attempting just stay in one another's eye sights. Haven was pissed too, as she finally caught Navi, the younger girl coming to a stop in front of a random building, nearing the gates around the city. It wasn't an apartment, like the one they'd been in previously, but rather seemed to be a shop of some kind. Or at least it was. Before the quarantine.
"He's in here," was all the pink haired girl said, but the other wasn't just going to take her on her word.
"How," Haven griped with a glare, "do you know that? Huh?"
And Navi blushed, just a bit, as she looked down to the ground, kicking at it. "It's a new magic I've been working on. Kind of. I wanna… I wanna be like my dad and be able to trail people too. Like their scent. But I can't. 'cause I'm not a slayer. But I...I… I've been working on a new spell. That he found for me. I can't track scent, but I can see a trail a person leaves behind, if I mark them first, with it. And I kinda sorta...well… I may have put one on you guys, since you're my friends, and I didn't wanna loose you or anything, while we were on our job."
Haven only blinked and considered the implications of developing this spell herself. Ravan, however, just felt violated.
"You marked me?" he growled at her. "You creep! What kind of freak does that?"
"She said," Haven retorted as, finally, she moved towards the door of the shop, "that she did it to her friends. So I imagine you're not marked."
Ravan shoved her, but Navi, still slightly embarrassed over this, only followed the pair, keeping quiet then. The building was unlocked, anyways, and as the trio entered, they all listened as well as they could, hoping to pick up on something. Anything. That would assist in assuring them that yeah, Lcoke was somewhere in there. He was their real target then, really. They hoped to find the guy they were looking for, but above all else, they just really wanted their friend back.
"His path goes into the backroom," Navi assured them as they walked through the tiny, deserted bakery shop. "And then- Look, there's stairs."
The basement.
There was no doubt that, at the very least, Locke was down there, but they all probably felt a slight fear then, or at least Ravan convinced himself they all did, at the thought of going down there. No foreseeable way out other than the exit. He'd watched enough horror flicks on Erza's movie lacrima to know that nothing good happened in basements and cellars.
Nothing.
"Stay up here," Haven told Navi before nodding at Ravan. "In case something goes wrong, run back to the barrier."
"I can go down there. I-"
"One of us has to stay," the older girl insisted. "And Ravan's such a baby, he'd probably just run right now."
"I would not, you stupid-"
"Come on then!" And there was a door that led down to the basement, which they'd opened, but everything beyond it was dark. Haven held up an arm, electricity flowing brightly through it, providing a convenient light along their way. "You hear that Locke? We're coming!"
Navi felt useless and silly as, apparently, a lookout of sorts, but at the same time was glad not to have to go down into the dank, dark place. It was certainly somewhere you sent Happy, not go yourself. Ravan wasn't too keen either, mostly because without a torch of some kind, he was relying on Haven to see. And he could hardly rely on the girl to do something other than be completely useless and dumb. It was her main functions, after all, being useless and dumb.
The air got colder as they descended down the rickety wooden steps and Ravan worried about what they would do, if they were coming upon an ambush, and had to race back up them. Especially if Haven ditched out on him. Then he'd be completely in the dark. He didn't mind it, the dark, he wasn't a baby. Had no fear of it. But trapped in the dark with a dark guild, well…
Erza wouldn't care none though, he reminded himself. At all. She never did. About anything. All she thought about was completing her mission. Full stop. She might be afraid sometimes, fine, maybe, and she might even worry. But she'd never failed. Not that he knew of. Not once. And he didn't want to either. No way. Whatever was at the base of the stairs, whatever waited him, well, it was all he could do to face it. To beat it. There was no other option.
It came in glimpses, the large basement beneath the building. Haven seemed to just wave her arm about, attempting to get good looks at what awaited them herself, spinning in a tight circle. There wasn't much to see. Just storage bins and the like. There was a door tough, no doubt leading to a freezer, and through the disjointed vision he was given in the darkness, Ravan rushed forwards to throw it right open.
"Locke!" Haven tripped over something in the darkness, but stumbled right on to the doorway, arm still alight, the electricity that jumped forth shocking Ravan a bit, who she'd fallen into, causing him to shove at her once more. She hardly cared. "Locke..."
"He's not dead," Ravan grumbled as, walking into the freezer, he went to kick at the unconscious boy on the ground. "Just all tied up."
"Stop kicking him."
"I'm trying to wake him- Hey! Don't fucking electrocute him to death!"
She didn't. But she did full him up with some lightening in, hoping to arouse him. It did little. And Ravan and Haven only considered their options with a few sighs.
"We can't just leave him here."
"Duh."
"I'm just saying, Ravan. I'm sure you want to."
"I mean, it's not like we can do much else with him, if we can't even wake him up."
He had a point. The basement seemed to be clear and it was only Locke, apparently, in that building. And he was getting so much bigger than the two of them. It would be no easy feat, getting him in the narrow stairs. Between the two of them certainly they could lift him, but the pathway back up was too slender…
"I'll grab his feet," Ravan offered, "and you grab his head."
But they had to do it in the darkness then, given Haven couldn't light the way without shocking the kid some more (and though she'd love the opportunity in normal times, she was afraid of overdoing it). They nearly dropped him more than once, and it was much more difficult, traveling up the staircase with him, but they had no choice. Navi was more than a bit shocked when they dropped the restrained Locke at her feet.
"What happened?" she asked with round eyes, but Haven only shrugged as Ravan got down on his knees, summoning a short blade which he used to cut the ropes binding the other boy. "Is he...okay?'
"I dunno," Haven said as, after untying the ropes around his body, he found that they weren't all there was. "Hey, what's that on his wrists?"
"Some sort of cuffs or something, I guess," Ravan remarked as, trying to cut at the thick pale substance did little. "It almost feels like...metal, maybe? But there's definitely something magical about it."
"Maybe it's what's keeping him passed out," Navi whispered and this sounded as good of a concept as any to the children.
Slowly, the three all sat down around Locke, the final light of day streaming through a single window. Ravan only reached into his pocket, producing the final two biscuits from the morning, wrapped in paper and a bit smooshed.
"Here." And he passed them off to Navi. "I'm not hungry."
"We're not," Haven griped at him, because she always had to be upset about something, "going to just eat them because we're girls and your a stupid boy and your pitying us."
Navi, who was already eating hers, only frowned. It was fine though, she reasoned as she only tried to pass the other off on Haven, because that wasn't why she was excepting. Regardless of Ravan's reasoning, hers was simply because she was hungry. She'd grown up in a home with two of the most ravenous, bottomless pits alive. You ate your food or someone else did.
End of story.
But Ravan had been hungry before. Whether it was back at home, in his village, or when he and Kai began their trek to Fairy Tail. He was the older brother, so if there was only enough for one, or even only enough for half of one, then Kai was always the half. Not eating for a day wasn't too big of a deal anyways, he felt, and was a bit annoyed that Haven was causing such an issue over it.
"Fine," was all he growled in response, snatching the last biscuit from Navi before setting it atop Locke's chest. "He can have it when he wakes up."
"So what are we going to do?" Navi finally ventured because that's what they were dancing around anyways, wasn't it? "We have Locke now, and that's good and all, but we still have to find the guy who locked him up. And all the other people. Where did they go? There were so many people-"
"My grandfather," Haven spoke up then, as if a bit uncertain, "can make it seem like there's other people, other things, happening around you. When they're not. Ivan. Laxus' father. Remember, Navi?"
Faintly. It felt like so long ago, in the eyes of a child, the passage of only a few years. Though she was not the biggest fan of Ravan nor his little brother, it was impossible, really, to consider a life at the guild without the two of them. To think of Erza as all alone in her home. Childhood felt so short and yet so infinite at the same time.
"Maybe," the Dreyar girl went on after Navi's nod, "it's kind of like that. Because there's no way that that many people are in a dark guild. Women and children and… And… We shouldn't have left Locke all alone with him. That was so stupid. I'm so stupid."
And she was pouting then, Haven was, while, uncomfortable, the other children looked away. Navi thought she should mention that, well, it wasn't like they knew they were leaving him with an enemy. Rather, they'd left him there under the assumption he was going to be helping the sickly. Though Haven had been the one to direct him to stay behind, in no way was that the wrong move, considering what they'd been told. It was only a poor choice in retrospect.
But Navi didn't know how to say all that. She rarely had to comfort Haven. The girl typically was more on the offensive than defensive. She didn't even think Haven would like it, if she did comfort her. She'd probably see it more as Navi mocking her.
Haven always thought that people were mocking her. The girl was born with a constant chip on her shoulder, it seemed.
"Are you just gonna sit around feeling sorry for yourself?" Ravan finally grumbled to her. "So you got your stupid friend hurt. Who cares? We're here for a reason, you know. A real reason. We have to find where all those guys went, from before. Maybe you're right and there's was some kind of spell that made people appear. Fine. We still know at least one person was real. That mayor, probably, but even if it wasn't him, then someone. Someone did this to Locke. Why?"
Haven was still glowering, but Navi only looked curiously down at the passed out boy.
"And then to just leave him," the younger girl remarked. "Like...like they didn't care to have him or keep him. Just to get him out of the way."
Huffing rather loudly, Ravan jumped to his feet then. "I guess we should at least take him back to the barrier. Where he can be protected. If he wakes up and gets out of his cuffs, then-"
"No."
"Haven-"
"We left him before and that's how he got all injured," she insisted. "So wherever we go, he has to go."
Which poor Locke probably would have detested the idea of as all the children agreed carrying his heavy lug around was not going to work out to well for them. So, instead, Ravan grabbed one foot and Haven grabbed another, dragging him along behind them. Haven especially liked this idea, as it punished Locke for getting them in this mess in the first place.
She was quickly forgetting her role in the entire thing.
Yes, felt like it was completely Locke's fault.
Of course.
"So," Ravan began, glancing over at where Navi mostly seemed concerned they were doing moire harm than good to poor Locke. "I'm guessing you didn't put a tracker thing on the mayor? The fake one?"
"Well, no-"
"Good going, Navi," Haven added on. "How are we going to find him now?"
"I didn't think I needed to."
"Well," Ravan agreed with Haven, "you were wrong."
Without Locke there to stick up for her, all Navi could do was kick at the ground as they walked through the empty street, the rising moon providing them light then.
"We need to think about," Haven took command once more, "what's going on. Really going on. We know that there was definitely a sickness and it hurt the people of the town. They went into a quarantine. But once the disease had finished spreading, they found the capital wouldn't seen them aid to rebuild. So a dark guild offered them help and then stabbed them in the back. They holed up under the barrier and the dark guild has been here ever since. But why? Why would they do that? What do they want? And what's this sickness anyways? No other city around here experienced its spread? At all? That doesn't make sense."
"I guess what I don't get is," Ravan complained as he glared back at Locke. Dragging him around was getting annoying… "How come they tricked us in the first place? The dark guild? What was their ploy? Why interact with us at all?"
"I guess to feel us out, maybe," Navi whispered.
"But they sent us right to the enemy. Or at least their enemy," Ravan insisted. "Why would they do that? They had to know that we'd know they were liars then. What good did that do? What good is any of this? Ugh! It's hopeless. None of it makes any sense."
"I bet Locke could figure it out," Navi whispered. "Like one of his puzzles."
"Puzzles," Ravan retorted, "make sense. None of this makes sense. That's what I just-"
"How did they know that we wouldn't get sick?" Haven asked, ignoring the others mostly. "The quarantine is past, right? Why? Who deemed it that? Who took them off it? If the capital or their local government is just leaving them to fend for themselves? Was there a quarantine at all?"
"If a bunch of people," Ravan turned his annoyance onto her, "all got sick, then yeah, they probably can just section themselves offs by themselves. That's a quarantine, ain't it?"
"So they just gathered all the people up in their town, moved them to the mayor's mansion, and then what? All planned to die together? No. And not all of them got sick. They must have been the ones to care for the others. But why didn't they get sick?"
"Not everyone catches sickness," Navi pointed out. "And he said that once the fever passes, you're in the clear."
"Still. If they were smart enough to quarantine themselves, then how did it get so bad? How long must this have all been going on for, for them to need assistance from a guild? Just to get back on their feet?" Haven shook her head. "I just feel like someone's lied to us."
"Someone did lie to us," Ravan pointed out. "That first, fake mayor. He lied to us."
Still. She felt like there was more to it. A lot more.
After traveling aimlessly around the city for a good while, they figured they'd make something of a camp. Or at least they got tired of dragging poor Locke around. So they stopped, there in the street, just sitting on the curb, all three defeated and lost.
"This has to be the most boring job ever," Navi told the others. "Dad wouldda just beat the crap outta someone, until they figured out what was going on. Or my mom could have figured the whole thing out."
Ravan spit in the gravel on the ground, just staring at it. "Erza would've never fallen for the fake mayor anyways. She's too smart for that. She'd probably already be home by now, getting ready for her night training."
But Haven didn't speak on her mother and father. Because she didn't care to. Her mother was super powerful, fine, but she was also super stupid. And dumb. And trusting. She'd never figure out what was going on, Haven was sure. And her dumb father didn't even take jobs. Not since she was a baby. What good would it be to have him out on one? Sure, he was super strong and great and all that, but at the same time, he was pretty no nonsense. She doubted he could even be an effective mage anymore.
Guild masters were just old, boring losers who liked to harp on the fun, young mages.
She didn't like it though, thinking of them. Especially Laxus. He was definitely going to rip her a new one if she didn't figure this job out soon and head back home. Back home. Where she could go to bed and not be stressed about anything and...and…
She drifted off, just a bit, her head in her hands, and it wasn't restful in anyway, but it did shock her a bit when, suddenly, Ravan jumped up and yelled.
"We have," he told the others suddenly, "to get back to the barrier. And fast."
"Why?" Navi had been busy pushing little stones in the gravel road into a pile, but stopped at his words. "What good will that do us?'
"Think about it," Ravan insisted. "If it's like Haven says and someone in the dark guild can just...make people...puppets...whatever, then what if they made some that look like us? That would trick the people at the barrier, right? And they might let us in? And then they could get...whatever it is that they want from the people of this town. I dunno. But I do know that if they got in there, with the others, it won't be good."
But when Haven, through yawns, went to grab one of Locke's feet and Ravan the other, Navi finally spoke up and offered, instead, to help them carry him.
"Since it's not too far," she added when the other two seemed opposed. And, well, they didn't completely hate the idea.
It was as much as of a mad dash for the barrier as you could have, really, when you were lugging around an unconscious body.
"Oh, great," Ravan remarked when they made it to it to find, of course, exactly what he'd fear going on. "Just what we need. Two Havens."
Perish the thought.
She dropped the leg she was holding then, Haven did, at the sight of another her, there, banging on the barrier, requesting entrance. The other mayor, the real mayor, was on the other side, weary and seemingly confused.
"Hey!" she yelled as, now with a disproportionate amount of weight on their hands, Ravan and Navi dropped Locke as carefully as they could. "You stupid faker! Don't let her in! I'm the only real Haven!"
"She's definitely the loudest," Ravan grumbled as Navi only checked to be sure Locke was, at the very least, still breathing.
But Haven was too concerned with the fact that someone was sullying her good (debatable) name. Mimicry type magic, as well as Takeover, might not be her specialty, but given her lineage, she knew it well. And nothing annoyed her more than the idea of someone pretending to be her.
It was so rude.
And, not one to stand for being disrespected (it helped now that she wasn't going up against a full grown man, but rather, another child, herself, even if just in appearance), she had no problem with allowing massive amounts of lightning to begin jumping from her body. Running full blast at the other her, she tackled the doppleganger to the ground before raring back to slam a fist full of electricity to her face. And man, yeah, she did get it. Why everyone always wanted to hit her. Her face was rather punch-able.
"What," they heard exclaimed from inside the barrier, "is going on?'
"It's okay," Navi assured the real mayor. "We're taking care of it."
Ravan had never been given a clear shot to slice Haven up, no consequences and, well, summoning his favorite sword, one Erza had rewarded him with once, he came running right over to do that.
"You foolish brats!"
And Haven was shoved off, finally, by herself, but the other version was changing, anyhow, into something else. Something different. And as she stared in shock, the other her was turned promptly into the fake mayor from before.
"Why," he continued on as, getting to his feet, he only glared at them, "are you so annoying? And I see you found your little friend."
Ravan, who came to a stop by the staggering Haven, only held his sword cross his body, studying the older man. "Yeah, we did. I dunno what you did to him, but-"
"You better wake him up!" Haven added as, to her feet once more, she only ran at the man once more.
Okay, so many it wasn't the fact her enemy was a child that she was so willing to attack. Rather, she was always willing. No matter what. To her own detriment or not. She was a Dreyar and that meant, obviously, she was better than everyone else. Out right. Add in a bit of Strauss and, well, forget Raijin, who needed gods when you were the embodiment of all power ever. All fearlessness. All strength.
If Laxus was deluded, Haven was so far gone, she was almost a lost cause.
Almost.
"Haven," Navi warned, but softly as, suddenly, she felt it. The eyes. All about them. Turning, she saw them then, other men waiting around, in the shadows of the streets that led to the one they were on. "Uh, Ravan-"
"Huh?" He glanced around then, at the approaching foes, no doubt somehow affiliate with the fake mayor, and while he knew that some of the people from before, that they'd seen peeking out from buildings and such, had just been facades, these guys were definitely real. He could feel the magic radiating from them. Growling, he only shouted over to the quarreling Haven, "Navi and I got these guys. You take care of him."
"As if," she growled as the man, having evaded her wild punch, kicked then, a heavy boot into the young girl's stomach, which sent her flying backwards, "I needed your direction."
She and the man eyed one another, separated now a bit. As she heard Navi call out the name of spells and Ravan made all his stupid loud noises he did when he was swinging his heavy weapons about, she could only sneer at her foe.
"You're some kind of dark guild wizard, huh?" she questioned. "And you tricked us, right? Just to use us to get into the barrier? Well too bad! We're not just some dumb kids, you know. We're Fairy Tail wizards! And that means something."
Something, fine, but she wasn't too sure what yet. At the very least, she got the boastful, pigheadedness of the other members down pat.
Arrogance was earned, but after spending all those years watching the blowhards up at the guild, Haven felt as if she'd more than paid her dues.
He only sneered right back at her though, the stocky man did, as he said simply, "I did not lie to you, child. I once, truly, was a general in the royal army. And yet you think that you somehow will be able to defeat me in battle? How is that? Hmm?"
She didn't want to think about it.
"How could someone that works for the King," she asked with a heavy frown, "turn out to be a bad guy? How could you do that? How could you spend so much time saving people and now decide to hurt people?"
"Hurt people?" He snorted that time. "Have you asked yourself, kid, why exactly you think the people of this town are so innocent? Huh? Is it because they requested your help? That makes them trustworthy? You're kidding yourself. You think I just happened upon this shit place and decided to take it? Ha. They have something and I want it. And I'm going to take it!"
"If it belongs to them," she growled as, once more charged up and ready to continue on with her attack, "then it doesn't matter what it is. I won't let you have it!"
He wouldn't hit her though. Only evade her. Somehow, that was much more annoying to the little girl. Frustrating. Laxus got like this sometimes. He'd just eat her lightning. It only would serve to piss the little girl off.
"Why," she growled at him, "won't you just attack me?"
It happened then, right after her words, when she was so close to connecting a punch, but barely missing, and she wouldn't have, anyways, if the man hadn't had to use some sort of defensive spell that, when Haven connected with the little white ball that he shot from his hand. It threw her back, causing her to tumble a bit from the force.
It was as she hit the ground though that, from behind her, she heard softly, "Where are we?"
"Locke!" She couldn't help it either, at the sound of his voice, as she turned to glance over to him. The boy was trying to sit up then, struggling a bit when he found that his hands were still restricted by the cuffs.
"Wha- What's going on?" he asked in mostly shock. "Wha- Haven?"
But she didn't go over to him. Only frowned some, glancing from him to the man. He was throwing her off some, given the fact she still hadn't landed a clean blow on him, but something clicked in her head then and, as if she needed any help with it, Haven felt back on top.
"I get it now," she accused loudly. "You're almost out of magic, aren't you?"
The man only glared. "What are you talking about?"
"You're the one that did the big trick before, didn't you? Making it look like there were all those people in the buildings and things? Then you overpowered Locke, you used some sort of spell to knock him out, you did a terrible rendition of me, and now, when you just tried to block my attack, your spell on Locke wore off, didn't it? Because you've exerted yourself, haven't you?' Haven couldn't help it. She smiled in victory though there was still much to be done in front of them. "If that's true, then you might as well give up. You hear me? Because you might be out of power, but I haven't even gotten started! I-"
"Wow, Haven," Locke snickered as she stopped talking as her growling stomach kind of deflated her some. "Skip dinner?"
"Shut up! And work on getting out of those stupid cuffs, idiot. Because you're not getting any of the reward, considering you haven't done anything!"
"That's not fair!"
"Yes, it is, Locke. You're the one that got caught. That's your fualt. Not mine. You're the one that decided to sleep the whole day. I'm gonna tell you're dad that you were just lazy the whole time."
"You better not!"
"I am!"
"Then I'll tell Master about how you were cursing, before, when we were in the forest and Ravan threw that spider at you."
"I can curse! If I want! We're on a job! Mages can do whatever they want!"
"Tell it to Master."
"Locke, you- Hey!"
And she'd gotten so distracted, arguing with the boy (she'd gone the whole day without doing it; so it went without saying that given the opportunity, she took it without question), that she didn't notice the man approaching her. Snatching her up, he held her high in the air, by the back of her collar, danging her above the ground.
"Hey!" Haven complained. "Put me-"
"I don't need magic, brat, to destroy you," the man said simply. "Did you miss what I said before? I'm a former general. You think that some stupid little girl is a concern for me?"
"What are you gonna do? Order her around to death?"
Both Locke and Haven glanced up then as, finished it seemed with their respective duties, Navi and Ravan stood together, glaring at the man. It was the boy that spoke, of course, and from his reequip space he'd produced the one thing that Erza gave him and yet never rightly let him experiment with. Well, Erza wasn't there then, was she?
"You almost skewered me!" Haven yelled as, when the boy hurled the sharpened javelin straight towards her. The man had the wherewithal to drop the girl and jump out of the way. "Who were you aiming for?"
Well, it wasn't like Ravan to let an opportunity to pass him by, was it?
"Locke!" Navi rushed to the boy's side. "You're awake."
"Yeah," he said with a nod. "But I have the worst headache-"
"Haven's right though," Ravan insisted as, not too disappointed in his javelin missing whoever it was he was actually aiming for (he'd probably have gotten in big trouble, anyways, returning home with her slung over his spear, like caribou; but what a visual…) "You're all outta magic. And we're all revved up on ours. So are you gonna just surrender? Or do we gotta kick your butt first?"
"I vote," Locke growled as he still struggled with his cuffs, "to kick his butt."
Navi, being sure of Locke then, only got to her feet, fists blazing as she nodded at Ravan before the pair ran forwards to aid on Haven. It had been simple for him, dodging Haven's uncoordinated attacks, but between the three children, he was easily subdued and eventually, after avoiding a ball of flame from Navi and being caught off guard by a lightning strike from Haven, Ravan had enough of a distraction to shove the man to the ground before standing, victoriously now, truly, over him, sword pointed at his neck.
"This is preposterous!" The man almost shoved up, but Ravan did look ready to skewer his neck if he tried. "I am a general in the royal-"
"I thought," Haven snickered along with the other children, "you said former?"
"Can one of you guys get the key? Or something?" Locke complained from where he'd finally gotten to his feet, but still with his wrists locked before him. "Or something?"
"If we have to," Haven sighed as Navi, with Ravan still holding the sharp point at the man's neck, began to search the fake mayor's pockets for something to release him. But as they worked on that, the oldest Dreyar did feel her eyes drift, over to the barrier, where the true mayor still stood, having watched the entire thing go down.
He looked pleased with the children and Haven wanted to be pleased with herself, but something still bothered her. Though she was certain they'd rid the city of one plight, she had a bad feeling, beyond the barrier, they were hiding another.

Bye, Bye Lucy: Part 1
In my experience, you're always in for a good time once the author starts off by saying the characters will be OOC.
Surprisingly, the actual events of some of these stories don’t even start before we run into trouble with canon. It’s common for fic writers to mistime Lisanna’s return from the end of Edolas to after the first Grand Magic Games. Often, this isn't even apparent until later on in the story and I'm honestly not sure if these guys realize they're even doing it.
The reason as to why will be important to a point I’ll talk about later. However, if this important detail is changed for the sake of the story, I can pretty much tell already that the writer cares more about their story than working alongside the canon universe. I actually think that time is the best time for a fic like this to happen, but it's off-putting to see such an important detail messed up.
At or before the beginning of these stories, Lisanna comes back and most of the guild ignore Lucy. Her friends ignore her. Natsu starts dating Lisanna and they spend all the time together. There are only a few people that will talk to her.
I feel as though some people might expect me to rip Nali in these stories. And many people probably would if they were to talk about this. However, I’m not going to. Not just because I already made a post about them.
Don't get me wrong, it's kinda weird that so many people are okay with writing Nali in a world with tons of canon problems, including the ones that a Nali relationship apparently entails in these stories and that are clearly worthy of its own post. Still, I want to believe in a world where Natsu and Lisanna end up together immediately after her return and this is the kind of thing I’d want to see in a fan fiction. I have no problem with this. (This isn't going to happen a lot, so don't get used to this.)
Why should I believe the guild would immediately ignore Lucy just because Lisanna came back? The story usually goes that she was just holding Lisanna’s place.
In the entire guild.
That's never implied pre-Tenrou. The closest thing we get is Levy saying that Lucy is kinda like Lisanna.
Even if it's just Team Natsu, which will be important later, it still doesn't work. Team Natsu wasn't made until Lucy joined.
With Lucy as one of the first members.
Before Lisanna was even named as a character.
See the issue?
And isn't the implication of having a spot for Lisanna to take upon her return that they expected her to come back, to begin with? Even though she's been dead for two years?
Besides that, if I was actually supposed to think Lucy was let in as a replacement for Lisanna, I'd hope that the same people that agreed that Lucy had “the most Fairy Tail spirit” would have grown to like her as an individual by the time Edolas arc ended.
If I really try, I could understand Lucy feeling jealous about attention being diverted to Lisanna. There wasn’t as much excitement when she joined the guild as when Lisanna came back. Though, that's because, to borrow the words of the Father in the story of the Prodigal Son, Lisanna was dead and is alive again. And yes, that death was equally as literal in that story.
Anyway, let's talk about the people talking to her because they're really important. It's always a group of the same pool of people talking to her in these stories: Mirajane, Cana, Romeo, Wendy, Carla, Elfman, Levy, Jet, Droy, Gajeel, Pantherlily, Makarov, Juvia, and, on occasions, Gray, Erza, and Happy. I feel like I read one where Jellal talks to her for some reason and that's bad for obvious reasons.
Part of me finds it weird that writers do this. It's like, “No one talks to Lucy except for most of the relevant Fairy Tail guild members.” But hey, that’s an issue with grammar and syntax and not with canon relevance. At least this list makes canon sense, right?
One day, I will ask a question like this and the answer will actually be yes. Not this time.
Some of the people on the list make sense. I’m going to ignore Mira and Elfman because I want to talk about them later. Given the timing of these stories, it makes perfect sense that Cana would talk to Lucy. She actually did start hanging out with Lucy after Edolas. Makarov talking to Lucy is a given and I'd be scared if he wouldn't talk to Lucy. He doesn't usually talk to her as much as the average person would, but I'll go with it. Of course, that brings up problems later, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
There's also no problem with Levy. As Lucy's friend she'd definitely still talk to her. I find it weird that the rest of Shadow Gear goes along with it but that's not a big deal for me.
However, that doesn't mean that Gajeel or Pantherlily would talk to talk to Lucy because of their relationship with Levy. In fact, that reasoning fails because Gajevy had its big moment during the Tenrou arc. That's not to say the ship meant nothing up to that point. It just means that it's too early to associate one with the other, in a shipping sense. (Because it would be okay otherwise.)
There is no reason that anyone in Team Natsu should be talking to her in a story where they will kick her out of their team. And that's not to say that they should kick her out, to begin with. (We'll get to that.) But if you're going to go that way, don't have them do things with her before. Especially Natsu’s (other) best friend, Happy. This includes Wendy and Carla, even though they’re the newest members of Team Natsu at this point in the series. If Gray won't talk to Lucy, then I'm not sure Juvia would either. Even if that wasn't an issue, there's still the whole “love rivals” issue.
Romeo is often lumped in, but it's usually just to pair him off to Wendy. Lucy saved his dad, but that's the end of his relationship with Lucy. If anything, I could see him get crushed by his hero's actions later in the story, but that's another issue.
Stepping away from those issues, why does Lisanna coming back have to be the reason no one talks to her? This is supposed to be before the S-Class trials. Why not have everyone ignore Lucy because they’re all going out and doing missions?
You know, like what actually happened after Lisanna came back and the parties ended.
And come to think of it, Lisanna didn’t even try to get better for S-Class Trials. If anything, that would have been a great time for her to start to get back into the swing of using magic. Next time we see her after the parties, she’s talking with Carla and Wendy about Carla’s new powers. The guild isn’t anywhere close to caring about Lisanna over Lucy. If anything, they’re both being ignored.
Why can’t they talk out whatever issues they may be having out? Is this because of that stupid trope where plots are driven by miscommunication/no communication?
These issues cover what usually is the first half of the first chapter. In fact, this singular post is longer than it takes to know if Lucy is being ignored in these stories. If I’m reading a story and this is the way it starts, I'm obviously not thinking about most of these things as I go through it. Still, I’m not going into it expecting much from the rest of the story in the way of “capturing the Fairy Tail spirit”.
That doesn't mean this set up is terrible. In fact, I think this could be a set up for an interesting story. But if you can’t tell from the name of this series of posts, it doesn’t get much better from here on out.
To be continued...
