Little Zephyr ghoul ficlet <3, the lack of content for ghouls from the early eras makes me so sad so I caved and wrote something a while ago, this is incredibly self indulgent

The night was quiet, peaceful. Like the world knew of the soft moment happening in a room, down one of the many halls of the abbey. A secret shared between the earth, and the two individuals swaying back and forth together, dancing to what ever vinyl was grabbed and set to play.
An awfully sweet scene, really. Ones arm wrapped securely around the others waist, supporting their forever aching body, head tucked into the neck of their partner whilst they quietly hum along.
It was rare for the pair to get a moment like this, a chance to just exist together. One, if not both, flooded with tasks or having a particularly rough time with their bodies ailments day to day.
As the track faded into the next song, Zephyr raised their head from its resting place, taking in their partners appearance, lovely eyes taking the time to memorize the same features they can't help but see as a painting, a song of love and tragedy all the same.
"Why me?" They ask, soft, a whisper that could've been mistaken as apart of the song in the background. But their partner has spent to many hours in the day, to many in the night, listening and remembering their voice to mistake it for another's.
"Why not you." Is the response, murmured instantly, not a thought to it. It would be the answer to that question in any lifetime. Always them, forever for them.
"There are many other options." The air ghoul reasons, there was stronger options, sweeter options
Options that are less of a waste of body.
They try not to think so negatively, but it's hard sometimes, when to them, it's so blatantly true.
"None of them are you, my king." The amusement in their partners voice was evident, like the thought of being with anyone else was silly; and to them it was. Why would any one but Zephyr be the pinnacle of their universe. The sentiment made Zephyr melt, a dopey smile growing across their face. Tucking their head back into its rightful place against their partners shoulder, nose tucked against the pulse of their neck.
"What did I say about calling me that." A laugh threatened to break loose from their chest, their shoulders shaking gently.
"Forgive me." A returned silent laugh, an equally dopey smile. Two lovers swaying slowly to a soft melody. A gentle moment no one else would know of, a gentle moment shared between two people, for no one but themselves.
