I'm sorry for my absent but then again an AU for Project sekai!

So here we are: Canon but add a lil AU

Usually, people without phantometal only could see the illusion by people who express themselves through songs(aka rap). But for people who had Sekai, they were different. They could use illusions as much as they want doesn't care if it was for acting, singing and drawing.

When they found their true feeling, a phantometal would be created for that reason. But unfortunately, they has their own side effects too.

Now if we use to much phantometal's illusions in ParaLive you will end up having a flashback about your darkest past, metal erosion and death. But for people who had Sekai, they only had flashback about their happiest memory before it takes a dark turn(ex: Saki loves her brother and happy with her friends before hospitalize, making her all alone and missed out so much of her childhood. She doesn't want to cause trouble to everyone and doesn't want to be alone).

When you had Sekaimetal(Sekai's phantometal), they would have a little drastic change about their live(ex: Mafuyu brace herself and confessed to her mother, told her mother that she wants Mafumom to understand her feelings) because of their friends.

Now for which team that use too much Sekaimetal, I think it was WxS since they need the 'vibe' for their show(even tho Rui decide to use a real one...). Followed by VBS, More More Jump!, Leo/Need and Nightcore at 25:00 a.m.

THE WARLORD'S SWORDS

Primarch: John Carter

Homeworld: Barsoom, a world that suffered a massive ecological catastrophe and is only habitable due to a network of canals and an atmosphere generating factory. In addition to the obvious problems inherent on living on a mummifed corpse of a world, only the toughest and most ferocious fauna survived the ecological collapse, and they're all hungry. And of course, the human (sort of, more on this later) survivors were constantly at war for resources. Or were until John Carter changed everything.

Notes:

Battlecries include "I/We Still Live", meaning that so long as they continue to draw breath, their victory is inevitable; and "For the Golden Jeddak and the Warlord!", these being their titles for the Emperor and their Primarch

Are notably long-lived, even by Astartes standards.

Hold to a stringent honor code. Most notably, when engaged in infantry combat, they will, whenever possible, attempt to match their opponents with "equal or lesser" weapons. Because of this, have a preference for swordplay, and have occasionally been known to go into battle without the Astartes' signature Power Armor.

Despite the above, are masters of naval and aerial combat, with one of the largest spacefleets of any Space Marine faction. Will not acknowledge the contradiction.

During the Great Crusade, rather than direct conquest, would prefer to find a dissident faction and support them in rising up and overthrowing the current rulers; the new rulers would then, of course, accept Imperial rule. It was not unusual for members of the Legion to allow themselves to be captured to facilitate finding these dissidents. Again, will not acknowledge the contradiction between this and their ideals.

Make extensive use of auxiliaries made of the Barsoomian abhumans called Green Men; who are hairless, stick-thin, 12-15 feet tall, and have green skin, tusks, bulging red eyes, an extra set of limbs that can be either arms or legs, and some really ridiculous lifespans. Resemblance to Orks is entirely coincidental and cosmetic. Green Men are their most vicious and brutal fighters, but also, paradoxically, the most committed to the honor code. Note that in addition to their obvious physical prowess, their primary combat role is as snipers.

Utilize traditional Barsoomian military structure. Obviously, did some tweaking after the Legion was broken up into Chapters, but still use the traditional titles, with their Chapter Master be referred to as the Jedwar.

Librarians are experts in Teleportation and Astral Projection.

Said Jedwar is Tars Tarkas, a Green Man who was John Carter's best friend and second-in-command, who in defiance of all logic was able to take the Warlord's genessed and become an Astartes (which yes, made him taller than his already enormous 15' height, and also caused him to bulk up), despite his age and abhumanity. It is said that it was his innate nobility and/or the fact that this worked that convinced the Emperor to accept that the Green men were, in fact, abhumans, and not xenos. Being well over 10,000 years old does not seem to have slowed him down any, and he has even recently crossed the Rubicon Primaris (and yes, got even bigger).

Doylist Thoughts:

-Alt. titles, Successor chapters: Immortals, Peacebringers, Red Fliers, Green Horde, Black Pirates, White Survivors.

-Really wanted to include some stuff involving Barsoomian technology but not sure how to do that without messing up the setting or getting into VS Debate territory. Also wanted to address the chivalric romance aspect of the source material, but not sure how given how Space Marines work. I kinda wanna make Issus a Daemon of somekind, it feels like it makes sense, but not sure of the details.

Next part of my final project

I introduced you the plot of the movie (still available on Amazon Prime Video btw), my primarily sources will be the themes used for the main characters: Miles Morales,Gwen Stacy, Hobbie Brown and Pavitr Prabhakar (I could also use the one for Miguel O'Hara but irrelevant for the topic I want to put forward) and scenes from the movie obviously ! My secondary source will be: Sekarini, Siska Ayu Diaz, Khadija Albar Hanafi, et Isna Shofiyani Fathoni. « THE INTERTEXTUALITY OF CULTURAL REPRESENTATIONS AS SEEN FROM SPIDERMAN ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE (2023) AND MS MARVEL (2022) ». CrossOver 4, no 1 (30 juin 2024): 95‑144. https://doi.org/10.22515/crossover.v4i1.9513. It shows how Spiderman Across the Spider-Verse strenghten superhero stories by putting cultural identities. With a way to not only ameliorating the character development but also by demonstrating the potential of global media to bridge cultural gaps, by raising some kind of empathy and understanding. Today I'm going to focus on Hobbie Brown: Hobart Brown as a full name, he is one of the main characters who got Miles' team out of trouble even if he brings trouble wherever he goes paradoxically. He is the embodiment of the Afro-Punk movement, Anarchism, rock'n roll and the idea of "Audiences" from the chapter of the Negus where he is a rocker, a fighter against fascism, for political actions and creating moral panic at each concert aiming to criticize society and music industry. Moreover he even helped Miles escaping from the Spider Society, giving him his watch and hope of freedom "Whole point of being Spider-Man is your independence." In his theme, you have the famous electric guitar, bass and drums. Therefore this is clearly a reference to a punk band and really similar to "Cerebral Ballzy- On the run" without the vocals.

I don't know much about Fragaria Memories (I just listened to some songs) and like I said, I thought about this crossover because it seemed funny.

Sonic and pokemon crossover. And I gave this underappreciated Jackal some love. Also most of the pokemon are named after his old squad. In this AU his team was killed by rampaging pokemon that were scared off or in a panic state due to Eggman's new test project, a Paradox pokemon. Only three of the pokemon made it, Zorro was thankfully able to help get Zero up to higher ground, Trois became a ghost type after the rampage as a Zorua, and Cin was released before the tragedy. While brought to sorrow and grief, Zero made a promise to build a team that reminds him of those who were lost, and won't ever let that happen ever again. The other pokemon who came to the squad have their own stories in how they became part of the team.

Do your OCs read comics? Any faves there?

Most of them don't, just because a lot of them are from comic-based universes to begin with and that brings up a lot of potential paradoxes. But there are a few...

Katherine, of course, is a big comic book fan, with her favorites being X-Men and Black Panther (particularly the crossovers with Storm AND Black Panther, that's a win-win)

Jasper likes to read comics as well, but isn't dedicated to particular series or characters - they mainly just bounce around based on what looks interesting at the time. I think they'd be partial to Gambit and Rogue, though, partly because Jasper is also Cajun and would feel connected and partly because they're just such a fun relationship dynamic together.

Quinn's for sure read the Sandman comics, especially since she's already a big fan of American Gods and would logically branch out to some of Neil Gaiman's other projects. She probably read through the volumes while she was in the hospital - and then doesn't really re-read them, since even as much as she loves the comics, it brings up memories of the hospital that she doesn't want to acknowledge.

I could see Kestrel being introduced to the Nimona comics by one of the kids, since Kendra or Seth were probably reminded of Kestrel while reading them to begin with, and they'd really enjoy those! Aside from that, they don't really have much exposure to comics.

And everyone else is either from a superhero universe already, or died before comics became a thing (cough cough Jimmy)

New AU Idea (Dang it, I'm already working on Shackled Revelations----)

So, I've seen several Kieranpon AUs, a few Kieranrunts and Terapagos Kieran AUs. So, that actually got me thinking, since Kieranpon can literally transform into a humana and back. That got me thinking:

IT STARTED WHEN AN ALIEN DEVICE DID WHAT IT DI-

Ok, in all seriousness, I wanted to make a Ben 10 crossover AU with Pokemon for quite some time and I feel that this is the perfect time. So, long story short, Kieran found the Omnitrix when he was 8, and the usual happens like what happened in the Classic Ben 10 series. However, he took the Omnitrix off when he was 10 and only took it back on when he was I guess 13? So, he has some kind of protective instinct to reach to his left wrist when he gets bullied. He does do training with his main team. This all takes place before the DLC.

However, 8 months before it starts, Kieran got a message from his father about the Highbreed Invasion (Basically, beginning of Alien Force Arc) and not put on the Omnitrix since he has it, but Kieran's confused as the Omnitrix is in his room back at Mossui Town, during the Teal Mask DLC, he immediately bolted to his room. Where he keeps a box containing memorabilia, and he finds his Omnitrix. Carmine, who obviously knows about it, is worried and concerned about. he does encounter Albedo and some familiar foes. I'll explain more in depth stuff next time. But this is all I have for now. I really wanna show you his design, but I'm terrible at drawing so, yeah.

Now, since in its canon alternate timelines exist in Ben 10, I figured that Kieran does canonically enter alteante timelines either by accident or by Professor Paradox. Specifically, Toxic Chain Possession AUs. Namely, Project Venus, Toxic Consequences and Bridged Toxicity. Mainly because I helped work on some of them so I figured it would maybe be ok, PV as I contributed several ideas. TC for the name and Kieran's corrupted team idea and BT just for the name. So, maybe.

If you wanna know more about the AU, we could. But not now, well, what are your thoughts and opinions on this AU? and that's all I have folks. And remember, the journey through the Kieran-verse is just beginning...

Mighty Gazelle - Steel or Electric. That said, I do think he should have an Iron Hands on his team so yeah definitely Electric

Jody - whichever type has the most cat Pokémon. Normal feels right but given the Purrloin line, Incineroar and Meowscarada are all part Dark…

Robert - as tempted as I am to give him something like Grass, Fairy or Normal (he’s my favourite though I’m never giving him Normal), I think he has to be Fire because it means he gets Ninetales and Delphox, literally Golden Foxes. This post exists because I was thinking about Falcon as a Champion and Robert as an Elite Four member so he needs two more Fire-types I can’t think of (because somehow I’ve forgotten than Kalos is one of the only regions that does it like this (I vaguely remember Kanto in LGPE doing this too actually now that I think about it). I don’t like saying Kalos sucks or anything but you do gotta wonder what was going on in the heads of the people at Game Freak when they decided no Kalos Gym Leader has more than 3 Pokémon and no Kalos Elite Four member has more than 4 Pokémon) but for some reason Nickit (who is unevolved and pure Dark) comes to mind. He’s probably got a Flareon actually (possibly shiny because it’s closer to gold)

Baba - I’m tempted to give him an Iron Moth or a Miraidon (Iron Serpent) as a joke about his machine being called the Iron Tiger so probably either Fire, Poison, Electric or Dragon, all of which make some level of sense as Baba’s type speciality. If we wanna go with more tiger-like Pokémon… Incineroar???

Goroh - Steel because it’s where Pawniard, Bisharp and Kingambit are and I don’t want him to share a type speciality with another member of the Original Four. Water also comes to mind because of Samurott (yeah okay I’ll admit it, Samurott’s a samurai) and Greninja. Also Mantine. It’s a mantra ray not a stingray but I don’t think there are any real stingray Pokémon

Pico - Dark no question. Next!

Falcon - Flying. Also Electric because he represents the series and Electric is associated with speed (unless your name happens to be Iron Hands or Raging Bolt). Actually, so is Flying for some reason. Guess he’s undeniably a Flying trainer then!

Octoman - Water. Maybe Fighting for the Clobbopus line

Mr. EAD - idk probably Fairy but his Pokémon probably all have the Stellar Tera type

James - Dragon

Billy - Normal (no this has nothing to do with Rillaboom the Unrivaled, it’s because of Meowth)

Kate - Fairy because as far as I’m aware, that’s the type most associated with singing (maybe other than Normal. And Psychic). Her team probably consists of Primarina (probably with Liquid Voice), Jigglypuff, *looks up the move Sing to see what Pokémon can learn it* Scream Tail, *sees Lapras learns it by level up and remembers Lapras was one of the Pokémon in the Project Voltage artworks* Lapras, Cottonee (apparently it can learn Grass Whistle, which is basically Grass-type Sing) and… *is really tempted to go with Hatterene* Sylveon. I do wanna give her Toxtricity but I already decided her signature type is Fairy and Toxtricity is not part Fairy (she could have one with a Fairy Tera type though)

Zoda - You know for everyone else Mr Zero’s scared of I’m going with Dark. Zoda though I’m not so sure on. Electric and Poison both stand out as types that make sense for those who love to experiment (so he could have a Toxtricity. Cool)

Jack - Electric. His surname literally comes from the same word as Paldea’s Electric Gym city (yep, he’s definitely getting a Toxtricity)

Bio Rex - Dragon. He’s probably got half the Past Paradox Pokémon on his team (everyone saying the Future Paradox Pokémon are less original than the Past Paradox Pokémon okay tell me why all five of the Past Paradox Pokémon with higher base stat totals than the rest of them share the Dragon type while their Violet counterparts don’t share a type (well, the Neo Swords share Psychic but Miraidon wasn’t interested and that’s the only type Valiant didn’t get from its modern-day counterparts). Also the whole Past Paradox counterparts of Pokémon with two Paradox counterparts all being part Fighting while Treads got Ground/Steel, Moth got Fire/Poison and Miraidon got Electric/Dragon meaning none of their types are shared between them. Also until Wake and Fire existed the only Paradox Pokémon not to share either type with another Paradox Pokémon were Bundle and Moth (both of which seem to get featured heavily in merch - they both represented Future Flash alongside Valiant and they’re the two with those cool lights that are coming out in November. Damn I need those lights). And then there’s the animations)

The Skull - Ghost. Or Dark (probably got a Sableye)

Antonio - if Goroh has Steel, Antonio has Fire (or Fighting). If Goroh has Water, Antonio has Grass (or Electric)

Beastman - Fairy (it was the closest thing I could think of to something supereffective against Dragon without being Dragon itself)

Super Arrow - Flying

Mrs Arrow - possibly also Flying but probably something cooler like Electric

Gomar and Shioh - whatever type is the most known for having counterparts (I was thinking Electric bc Plusle and Minun but Fairy would make sense for Clefairy and Jigglypuff/Spritzee and Swirlix)

This work is based on the visuals in The Copied Factory, the first alliance raid in the “YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse” questline released in Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers.

Balancing economic development with natural resources protection

It’s one of the paradoxes of economic development: Many countries currently offer large subsidies to their industrial fishing fleets, even though the harms of overfishing are well-known. Governments might be willing to end this practice, if they saw that its costs outweighed its benefits. But each country, acting individually, faces an incentive to keep subsidies in place.

This trap evokes the classic “tragedy of the commons” that economists have studied for generations. But despite the familiarity of the problem in theory, they don’t yet have a lot of hard evidence to offer policymakers about solutions, especially on a global scale. PhD student Aaron Berman is working on a set of projects that may change that.

“Our goal is to get some empirical traction on the problem,” he says.

Berman and his collaborators are combining a variety of datasets — not only economic data but also projections from ecological models — to identify how these subsidies are impacting fish stocks. They also hope to determine whether countries might benefit instead from sustainability measures to help rebuild fisheries, say through new trade arrangements or other international policy agreements.

As a fourth-year doctoral candidate in MIT’s Department of Economics, Berman has a variety of other research projects underway as well, all connected by the central question of how to balance economic development with the pressure it puts on the environment and natural resources. While his study of fishing subsidies is global in scope, other projects are distinctly local: He is studying air pollution generated by road infrastructure in Pakistan, groundwater irrigation in Texas, the scallop fishing industry in New England, and industrial carbon-reduction measures in Turkey. For all of these projects, Berman and his collaborators are bringing data and models from many fields of science to bear on economic questions, from seafloor images taken by NOAA to atmospheric models of pollution dispersion.

“One thing I find really exciting and joyful about the work I’m doing in environmental economics is that all of these projects involve some kind of crossover into the natural sciences,” he says.

Several of Berman’s projects are so ambitious that he hopes to continue working on them even after completing his PhD. He acknowledges that keeping so many irons in the fire is a lot of work, but says he finds motivation in the knowledge that his research could shape policy and benefit society in a concrete way.

“Something that MIT has really instilled in me is the value of going into the field and learning about how the research you’re doing connects to real-world issues,” he says. “You want your findings as a researcher to ultimately be useful to someone.”

Testing the waters

The son of two public school teachers, Berman grew up in Maryland and then attended Yale University, where he majored in global affairs as an undergraduate, then stayed to get his master’s in public health, concentrating on global health in both programs.

A pivotal moment came while taking an undergraduate class in development economics. “That class helped me realize the same questions I cared a lot about from a public health standpoint were also being studied by economists using very rigorous methods,” Berman says. “Economics has a lot to say about very pressing societal issues.”

After reading the work of MIT economists and Nobel laureates Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee in that same class, he decided to pivot and “test the waters of economics a little bit more seriously.” The professor teaching that class also played an important role, by encouraging Berman to pursue a predoctoral research position as a first step toward a graduate degree in economics.

Following that advice, Berman landed at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Evidence for Policy Design, a research initiative seeking to foster economic development by improving the policy design process. His time with this organization included five months in Jakarta, Indonesia, where he collaborated with professors Rema Hanna and Ben Olken — of Harvard and MIT, respectively — on a portfolio of projects focused on analyzing social protection and poverty alleviation.

The work, which included working closely with government partners, “required me to think creatively about how to talk about economics research to several different types of audiences,” he says. “This also gave me experience thinking about the intersection between what is academically interesting and what is a policy priority.”

The experience also gave him the skills and confidence to apply to the economics PhD program at MIT.

(Re)discovering teaching

As an economist, Berman is now channeling his interests in global affairs to exploring the relationship between economic development and protecting the natural environment. (He’s aided by an affinity for languages — he speaks five, with varying degrees of proficiency, in addition to English: Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, Portuguese, and Indonesian.) His interest in natural resource governance was piqued while co-authoring a paper on the economic drivers of climate-altering tropical deforestation.

The review article, written alongside Olken and two professors from the London School of Economics, explored questions such as “What does the current state of the evidence tell us about what causes deforestation in the tropics, and what further evidence is needed?” and “What are the economic barriers to implementing policies to prevent deforestation?” — the kinds of questions he seeks to answer broadly in his ongoing dissertation work.

“I gained an appreciation for the importance and complexity of natural resource governance, both in developing and developed countries,” he says. “It really was a launching point for a lot of the things that I’m doing now.”

These days, when not doing research, Berman can be found playing on MIT’s club tennis team or working as a teaching assistant, which he particularly enjoys. He’s ever mindful of the Yale professor whose encouragement shaped his own path, and he hopes that he can pay that forward in his own teaching roles.

“The fact that he saw I had the ability to make this transition and encouraged me to take a leap of faith is really meaningful to me. I would like to be able to do that for others,” Berman says.

His interest in teaching also connects him further with his family: His father is a middle school science teacher and mother is a paraeducator for students with special needs. He says they’ve encouraged him throughout his academic journey, even though they initially didn’t know much about what a PhD in economics entailed. Berman jokes that the most common question people ask economists is what stocks they should invest in, and his family was no exception.

“But they’ve always been very excited to hear about the kinds of things I’m working on and very supportive,” he says. 

“It’s been a really amazing learning experience thus far,” Berman says about his doctoral program. “One of the coolest parts of economics research is to have a sense that you’re tangibly doing something that’s going to have an impact in the world.”
