i can't get over how mark's innie deals with grief the same way his outie does. innie mark throwing the photos of petey away. leaving irv's funeral early. outie mark getting severed to avoid dealing with gemma's death. somewhere in mark scout's core is the instinct to run away when he has to deal with loss and that makes me craaaazyyyyyyyyyy

i got a couple comments/asks about this so im just making a post teehee:

peter is an unreliable narrator

not that we can't trust him for most of what he's saying, but there are a few things that we can not trust. one being his perspective that tony doesn't see him as a son (which is the most obvious) but another being that gotham hasn't noticed spider-man or peter parker. jason's pov when meeting benny and maps (and co) was indeed a glimpse into what we didn't see in peter's pov. it's not that he doesn't care about these instances, but he has so much going on that he has zeroed in on what we actually saw. what was a seemingly insignificant moment for peter, so insignificant that he didn't mention it, was a very impactful moment for maps. he made a small difference in his neighborhood without even realizing. there's also the fact that peter doesnt want to get attached, and that's another reason he has distanced himself emotionally from these actions. there is a POV later from maps that might shine some light on this + a scene where we see some familiar faces. and there's also a scene in Ned's POV later that highlights New York missing spider-man. Peter also isn't aware of just HOW large that portion is. when he thinks about home, he thinks about the Avengers and then the people he knows personally. but the city does miss him

very interesting how this was supposed to be an attempt at manipulation from naraku that worked wonders, but saint hakushin's situation directly mirrored kikyo's. she fully empathized with his feelings and told him textually she tried to also live without doubt, to make no mistakes, to not cling to life and be "above" such things. having been in his shoes very recently since she was brought back, she tells him there's no shame in crying over wanting to live.

now, we had naraku use such candid words to tell hakushin he was revered but not thought of, not cared for, that he didn't allow himself "any doubt". he goes as far as to tell hakushin he wanted to live. to come along with him and live. "live along with me" (lol, ever think maybe he could've told kikyo this—).

FURTHER MORE...! it was quite obvious, that naraku and kikyo are each other's utmost opposite, but it's also so fascinating that naraku made use of hakushin and manipulated him at his most vulnerable moment, while it was kikyo that granted him understanding, clarity, and set his soul free.

in the databook, naraku and kikyo are the only two characters whose map of souls - the souls that compose the shikon jewel, aramitama, nigimitama, kushimitama and sakimitama - is full. they embody all these sentiments that compose the jewel, both good and bad, but both chose to utilize this potential for totally different quests.

in the end naraku clung to remaining miserable and making others miserable (so his shikon map just remained malignant) and kikyo used her tremendous soul strength for fighting off evil and protecting life, at the expense of herself. two very strong wills/spirits that directly opposed one another in actions and thoughts.

Map part for the hole dwelling map, starring... Not my ocs! I wanted to use ocs, but I don't have any-- so I just used the characters from a fic I was reading at the time 😂

Turns out, the symbolism was so much fun to twist into the 11 seconds I had to work with, I ended up going way more complex than I meant to. If you wanna read the fic this was based on, please do!! And tell the author I said hi! :D

i do find the wider response to the MAP/NOMAP terminology to be fascinating

i do find the terms to be largely unhelpful in their goals of destigmatization (I am of the opinion that this goal is best achieved by destigmatizing the word pedophile itself, and that attempts at new terminology tend to be other unuseably clunky or read as deceptive)

but i find it interesting just how many people ive seen that treat "MAPs" as some distinct and organized group lurking around every corner

even in spaces where ageplayers and pedophiles are explicitly accepted, the spectre of MAPs specifically draws ire and suspicion, which i find fascinating, considering ive met plenty of self identified MAPs in my life, and not once have they been meaningfully distinct from pedophiles except in their choice of language, so where is this paranoia coming from?

as an aside, they did go hard with the flag though, i can see why it accidentally ends up on merch so much its very pleasing (one of the only pastel flags i actively enjoy the look of)
