April 30, 2024 - Fiji Parrotfinch (Erythrura pealii) Found only in Fiji, these estrildid finches live at the edges of forests and in gardens and suburban areas. They mostly eat grass seeds, along with some insects, spiders, and sometimes berries and nectar, often foraging on the ground in flocks. Probably breeding from January to April and July to August, they build domed grass nests with side entrances in trees. Females lay clutches of four, or sometimes three, eggs.

Blue-Faced Parrotfinch (Erythrura trichroa)
Blue-Faced Parrotfinches are typically seen in patches, occasionally with 30 or more birds, but the number of birds that are seen together increases with sufficient food sources. The females typically lay an average of four eggs - with a maximum of eight - and incubate for 15 days. The male is responsible for feeding the nestlings, which fledge after roughly 21 days.

May 1, 2020 - Blue-faced Parrotfinch, Blue-faced Finch, Green-backed Finch, or Blue-headed parrot finch (Erythrura trichroa)
Found in parts of northern Australia, Indonesia, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Micronesia, and Palau, these estrildid finches live in forests, shrublands, and grasslands. They mostly eat grass seeds, along with other seeds, small berries, and insects, foraging on the ground and in grass or low bushes. Pairs build oval nests from grasses, ferns, leaves, moss, and roots, often in trees or shrubs. Both parents incubate the eggs and feed the chicks.

The grass is alive with the sound of chirping Coming out of my bure, the fijian hut, on the way to dinner, the moving redspecked grassturf caught my attention. Moving. Redspecked. Grassturf. The flock of small, green grazing parrotfinks continued eating unabated. This bird is endemic to Fiji, and is another species that has adapted to humans and our constructions effortlessly. Like the easyness to get to food when the humans has shortened the grass. And relative safety in us finding them cute. They were regulars every afternoon around sunset. And they gave the sort of peace you get when animals graze in a pasture and the sun is setting after a hot day. #Erythrura #pealii https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiji_parrotfinch #sunset #view #dinner #visitors #pasture #grazing #red #parrotfinch #tavewa #foodie #2009CE #Fiji #fiji #pacific #island #retreat #talesofthepacific #yasawa #yasawaislands #archipelago #tiny #humans #tall #palmtrees #mountains #2009 #beachlife #bula #fijian #sunset #bluesky #jungle #islandlife #backpacking #aroundtheworld #circumnavigateglobe #2ndtime #worldismyoyster #pt2 #Nikon #D300 #Nikkor #20mm #70_200mm #f2_8 (ved Coralview Resort Fiji) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDHPjSfpRJ6/?igshid=bmw6b6ny7i7z
