What’s It All About?
Fandom: Coco
Rating: General Audiences
Pairing: N/A
Summary: He didn't catch it then, but the gears were turning in Ernesto's mind. If only he noticed
(In case Ao3 is more your fancy)
The point where Héctor would come to question everything with Ernesto came on a rooftop.
They’d drained whatever was left of the cheap tequila and spat at the world walking beneath them. Who knew being broke in Mexico City would be so damn fun?
But as the laughing died down, and the conversation grew more pensive, Héctor turned to Ernesto and finally asked, “So after all this time, what do you think it’s all about?”
“What?”
“You know,” He said, as he looked to the starless sky, “What we’re doing? You got an idea of what this mess is about, amigo?”
“Ay dios mío, that’s obvious!” Ernesto said, flopping back onto his bag and reaching up, “To be stars! We’ve got the talents, the looks-”
“I personally think you look like an ass.” Héctor said.
“Oh shut up,” He laughed. “We got every right to it! We’re gonna work our asses off, become richer than God, and then live the good life.”
Héctor was quiet for awhile, and Ernesto finally turned to him.
“What about you, then?”
“Hmm?”
“What do you think this is all about? It’s only fair I know.”
Héctor turned to look at him, smiling gently. “Easy,” He said, “To have enough. You know… Provide for Imelda and Coco. That’s all I want, at least.”
And Ernesto, too, was quiet for awhile.
“I think I’m going to sleep,” Ernesto said, rolling over.
“Night, tonto.”
Looking back, the conversation would haunt Héctor. He didn’t catch it then, but the gears were turning in Ernesto’s mind.
If only he noticed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Notes: This is a little standalone work that fits into the continuity of that main thing I’m doing (here’s the first chapter of that for those interested). Idk, it’s more of a character study of Ernesto and Hector and the conversation that may have sparked the murderous intent.
Big thanks to The Bro @loracarol for helping me edit, as per the usual, and also to my buddy who helps with the Spanish!
Critique is always appriciated :D
Pairings: Axton/Zer0
Summary: “Well then, we’ll find it,” He said, somewhat surprising himself as he did, “We’ll hunt it down. Once this is all over, once we kill Jack and everything, we can take a break from the whole vault hunting thing, try to track down your home planet, find your parents, that stuff. I’ll help you. We can do it together.”
“You don’t mean that,” Zer0 said with a little smile. Their eyes were fixed on a distant star. Axton, ever the dreamer, liked to believe that system, whichever it was, was the one their family resided on.
“I do,” He insisted. He’d given up on saving face, at this fucking point. He had no filter. He’d just hope they’d both forget in the morning, Zer0 certainly wasn’t themselves tonight. “I promise.”
whoops.
I’M SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG I HAVE NO EXCUSES. IT’S ALL UP NOW THOUGH.
I’m also just. I’m so sorry for what you guys are abt to experience. This isn’t even a Portal Fic anymore, this is just me being evil and posting it to AO3
Anyways, yes, I got into my school of choice along with every other college I applied to! I’m going to school for economics and English, so we’ll see how we’re doing once the whole world stops being a Huge Mess, and then see how my first semester goes starting in August :)
My dearest humans, beautiful people of the internet and world, the many loves of my life: It’s HERE babey! The first of many. This is, in fact, chapter 2 because I forgot to do this for chapter one.
Just, warning here, this is very minimally chelley and more really about their children. I hope you all enjoy! Btw - I have a Twitter now! Follow it so I can stalk you in a loving and respectful manner. Concrit is always welcome, your comments and reblogs exceptionally appreciated :D
(btw for those with no faith in me - the whole thing is basically already written, I’m just editing and posting now, I much prefer this format tbh)
Note
Just finished reading your works Helper and All That Never Glittered. Great work! I'm actually collecting such works and was wondering where I could view the epilogue parts you have? Thanks!
Hi! I’m really glad you enjoyed them, it means a lot to me :D
Currently, the epilogues have yet to Officially Come Out, though I have plans to get at least one (maybe two) out in the next week or two. Because you asked so nicely, though, I thought I’d give you a lil sneak peak into a few of them since I have a lot of them partially written! Under the cut for dash tidiness
From an angst-and-fluff piece following up Waffles’ It’s A No, Then epilogue for Blue Sky. Spoilers for that, obviously:
Every so often a voice in Chell’s head would chime in, as she went about some small task or the other. It would chime in and it’d say: He proposed and you said no.
She didn’t regret it. Not in the slightest. It was the only thing she could say. There was nothing worse that she could’ve thought of at the time, playing mommy-wife to anyone, least of all a man-child with no ambitions. Every so often The Incident in the woods would come to her mind and she would involuntary shudder. It made her feel guilty, sometimes, that she knew he felt worthless and sometimes she couldn’t help but think that he was right.
But she never said that to him.
He was given a large stack of books when he said, more officially, that he’d like to teach math. The new Republic of Michigan would’ve laughed him out of the room if they weren’t so desperate for teachers and if his board exam scores weren’t so shockingly high for a man who had never seen a bubble sheet in his life.
From another angst to fluff piece about Wheatley getting Betterish:
He’d been under nearly constant watch for the next few weeks, and then after that, everyone eased up. Everyone was so… Demonstrably affectionate. Not an hour went by when he wasn’t told he was loved, where someone didn’t smile at him.
He hated it.
He didn’t say anything, just smiled and told them thank you, told them he was grateful, told them he wanted nothing more than to live a happy life in Eaden. He never lied, he was rubbish at that, but it was apparent to everyone that he wasn’t telling a whole and complete truth.
He was appreciative of Garrett, though. Garrett didn’t lie to him. Garrett didn’t sugar coat anything. Hell, Garrett just spent time. That was all. He sometimes brought booze and offered Wheatley some, and Wheatley often would take it and drink until he felt somewhat better. The two of them would sit in the north field and get piss drunk - though Wheatley felt very different than Garrett seemed to feel.
Then there’s a ton of spicy angst that I want to keep a total surprise but be warned: o o f.
I hope this can tide you over until I can Officially Post The Other Things. Don’t judge those snippets too hard, they’re completely unedited lmfao. Cheers, have a good day/night/whatever time it happens to be, and be safe!! Love you <3
Ooookz! Since you feel like doing requests, would you want to write something portal related about Chell and Wheatley, just hanging out, not necessarily ship related (I'm the anon by the way lmao) BUT THERE'S A SENTIENT ROOMBA FOLLOWING THEM AROUND FOR NO REASON IN PARTICULAR and Rick accidentally destroyed the only microwave in the facility and now Chell can't microwave pre-made grilled cheese sandwiches. 8DDDD
Oh hello! I just wanted to start off by saying: I love this request. I’ve been feeling a little down and this is so off-beat, it was kinda hard not to grin while I was imagining what I could do for it. Another thing: Pre-made grilled cheese? Those exist? I have literally never heard of them, but they sound... College AU-ish. So enjoy your little college AU one-shot, I love you, you’re a star. I’d also like to apologize in advance, I have no idea where the fuck I was going with this, it’s...
Nonsensical. Enjoy.
They were engineering students. They all were engineering students, and they all did things that engineering students did, were what engineering students were: Which is to say, tired, angry, hungry, and most likely hungover. You try to sharpen a pencil with a razor-blade to 0.03 mm and not lose your damn mind, architecture is a bitch and that doesn’t even include the shit you have to do digitally.
Admittedly, it was Chell’s fault for taking a drafting class, she always had neat handwriting and was decent enough at art, she figured: Hey! What’s the worst that can happen!
The worst that can happen is your professor is vehemently against mechanical pencils and you spend the rest of your life slaving over a trash-can with eight different sharpening implements while your buddy fucks around coding his sentient fucking Roomba or whatever the fuck it was Wheatley was up to.
Yeah so maybe Chell was a little annoyed. Shoot her. This was the fifth time she broke the lead on this pencil and if Wheatley said another “Hoo-rah yay! It works!” she’d flip her shit.
This time, however, it wasn’t Wheatley who broke the silence and incited her ire, no, it was the Roomba. “Hello, Father,” It said, in that stupid text-to-speech voice he’d given it. It startled her, obviously, and for the last time that night, her pencil was nicely broken and she gave up, slamming the stump of wood down on her desk and holding her head in her hands.
I’m gonna dismantle that thing.
“Woah, shit, you weren’t supposed to say that, say: Hello, world,” Wheatley muttered to himself, click-clacking away on his keyboard.
“Of course, Father. Hello, world.” Wheatley made a noise that could only really be described as a startled squeaky toy as he looked down at the Roomba, rolling slightly towards him. “Why do you fear me, Father?”
“Whathefuckishappening- Chell!”
“Congrats, Dr. Frankenstien, you’ve made yourself a son.”
“Actually it’s Frakensti- no, wait, you’re right. Dammit. Uh... Can you, uh... Help me?”
“Absolutely not,” Chell said flatly.
“Father? Why do you desire help?”
Wheatley widened his eyes, looking down at the Roomba and back up at Chell, mouthing I’m gonna have to dismantle it.
“Father?” The Roomba pressed.
“Right, uhhh... Because parenthood is very difficult! I’m asking for help talking about uh... The birds and the bees! But that’s a talk for later, uh... Chell! Let’s go get something to eat.”
“It’s three in the morning, cafeteria’s closed.”
“There’s those shitty frozen grilled cheeses in the kitchen.”
“Don’t swear, your son’s right there,” Chell said, deadpan sounding as ever, but an amused smile playing on her lips, “Don’t want him to pick up your swearing habit.”
“You curse like a sailor!”
“I’m not a parent,” She retorted quickly, standing up and wincing as she stretched, cracking her back in a single row - she had to’ve been sitting hunched over since seven.
Wheatley followed her as she wandered out towards the shared kitchen space of the dorm, the Roomba close at his heels. “Father, where are we going?”
It went ignored by both parties as they meandered into the kitchen and stared, blankly, at the microwave, door just... Missing. Gone.
The situation had Rick written all over it, but he’d clearly gone off to cover his tracks.
“What the fuck.” Chell was beyond done. Couldn’t do a damn architectural drawing, couldn’t sharpen a damn pencil, and now, couldn’t eat a cheap frozen grilled cheese.
She was actually going to commit murder.
“Father? Why does the lady keep cursing?”
“Uhhhh.... Roomba, might be a good time to take our leave.”
[Welp, that’s that! I hope you enjoyed... Eh. This! Thank you so much for the request, I love you dearly, my good friend!]
Welp, it’s finally here, the virmel fic I’ve been hinting at for nearly a year! I finally sat down and mcfreaking wrote the first chapter. HUGE thanks to @theportalwedeserve for beta-ing for me, they’ve been a big help and you should absolutely check them out and shower them in love.
So go on ahead and give that sweet sweet concrit as you so see fit (hey, that rhymed). I hope all is well with you kids, stay out of trouble for me!
Wow, I am... The major sorry that I completely died for literal months. I got a job writing economic articles a month ago, put on top of that the work I’m doing to hopefully get published, then all the more recent developments in my life and... Yeah, I’m alive, and life is being what it tends to be: A roller-coaster.
Leave that concrit as you so see fit, I’m always down to hear what you all are thinking!
I hope life’s been a little gentler to you guys than it’s been for me, and that you’re all doing really well! Love you <3
A little sneakity-peakity into the original work I’m writing to (hopefully) get published! It’s called All Of The Birds. Under the cut ‘cause dash tidiness.
The light crept into the open windows of Cyril’s house, coming to cast a golden ray across his face. Sharp, hawklike nose, the slight mass of curly-dark hair on his head, stubbly beard, and most importantly - though, not important then, he knew, a pair of honey colored eyes, drips of amber in his skull.
Dion never knew why he remembered that.
Midterms are over!! I feel like I did pretty well, and once I knew what I was doing for this chapter, it almost felt like it wrote itself.
Y’all already know the drill, you know I wanna hear them thoughts, kids. Yeet yourselves into everywhere you can, I’m ready to hear your thoughts!
I hope everyone’s doing good, and I love you!!!
First and foremost, b’s, don’t read this until you’ve read Blue Sky by the ever lovely @wafflebloggies, cause a. That’s infinitely better written than my “trying to get out of a writing slump” unedited word-vomit, and b. It’s literally, unironically among my favorite things To Have Been Made.
This boi came out really quick ‘cause I had it mostly already written (’cause I wrote this and the next two chapters when I should’ve been working on chapter 2). I apologize for any weirdness in transitions ‘cause I did alot of it while working on studying for my midterms, but other than that, I’m pretty happy with it!
I feel like I don’t even need to say it, anymore, but I’m gonna anyways: Yeet yourself into my inboxes, the notes, the tags, whatever, just gimme that sweet, sweet feedback.
I hope y’all are feeling good, love you, bb’s!!!
Wow, that didn’t take me nearly two months to post the next chapter, what are you talking about? This took me forever and a whole lot of outline-reworking, but it’s done and I’m not too pleased with it lmao.
All that aside, the next few chapters should come MUCH quicker, just by virtue of me actually knowing what I’m planning on doing. Plus, I wrote those chapters instead of this one, heh...
You know the drill, kids, concrit and thoughts are always appreciated!! Love you <3
Fam I did it, I made Helper into a Whole Thing. I can’t stop myself. God rest my soul. Anyways, there is, in fact, required reading, here: Blue Sky by the ever lovely @wafflebloggies (though most of us have already read it). You can read Helper if you want but it’s not really necessary.
[Fun fact: This chapter was weirdly difficult for me to write because I was trying to capture the feel of someone lying awake at night on a weird train of thought, with added Wheatley Rambliness. I have no idea if it came off like that but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ too late to do anything now, it hath been posted.]
