FFXIV players: If you have light sensitivity, you might want to be aware that the quest "The Case of the Fiendish Fugitives" in the new Hildibrand questline in patch 7.25 has a few instances of bright, quickly-flashing lights. It's a bit more intense than we usually see in this game, so take care if you need to.

BRANCHBEARER MOUNT FOR MAMOOL JA SOCIETY QUEST REWARDS CONFIRMED!!!
Needless to say I started the quests on day 1 of patch 7.25.
I love these things. I really really hope we get some kind of lore for them during the course of these quests. I mean, a carnivorous plant in the shape of a bird that's bioluminescent? I love all of those things! I really really hope that the quests shine some light on how these magnificent creatures came to... shine light, among other things.
I'm dying to see if there's a canon origin for them, but just in case we don't get one, I already wrote a headcanon origin myth for them during last year's FFXIVwrite event.

I love it when XIV gives you those dialogue options and you can get the answer to a question wrong.
I'm doing the Mamool Ja Society quests and I can 100% see Ishi working with everyone to come up with solutions to their bug woes. But when she doesn't have the answer, of course Ruvoll Ja can quickly think and have an answer cuz he's a local and knows more about the endemic life there than she does. Ishi isn't the type to get defensive when she's wrong, she gets excited seeing other people talk about things they are knowledgeable of and commends them.
Just fun little character building moments.

Okay, I've finalized Ravy's second mage outfit. I really wanted to experiment with green again to see if I can make it work this time.
I was kinda sad that it didn't work out for his first outfit. :')
So, I tried using gentle/softer green colors for this outfit. And it turned out nicely! I think it goes well with his staff and especially with the type of magic he uses. :D
I'm gonna get back to Ava's outfits then hopefully Valeria.
But first I must run off to bed. 7.25 is tomorrow. I hope it'll be a good patch.
Do not use or repost.

okay after sitting on it for a bit and seeing other people say it I'm gonna post the fresh-off-the-stove take that the 7.2 trial might be one of the worst visually designed fights for a mandatory story progression fight. I don't have any color perception problems or any visual impairment but this fight has some pretty unclear visual indicators. God help the people doing the EX version because I imagine it's worse/the consequences of dying are more severe.
Pics below the cut of The Problem
So, this is one of the moves you can get where the boss does the pizza-cut attack (six sections) on the floor, combined with an in-out circle. Sounds easy enough, except for the fact that 1) the effects on the circles and slashes is a lot going on to the point where I can't for sure tell where the in-out ends and where I can step to the side to be safe and 2) the floor is an ugly yellow-beige combo that makes the slash indicators REALLY hard to see on TOP of the in-out circle mechanic.
This only gets worse with THIS version of the mechanic:
Which is arguably the same conceptually, only instead of the slashes coming one at a time, its only the slightly red slices that get the attack AFTER the first in/out attack happens. This one is arguably WORSE than the one above for the same reasons--the fillagree for both the slices and the in/out is too much to the point where the safety denotation is hard to make out, AND the color difference between the active and inactive slices is bad and barely distinguishable! Even when the attack goes off its still hard to decipher what's happened.
In my experience the mandatory fights in XIV are usually designed well enough to compensate (emphasis on mandatory here--I know that Phoinix in P3 was and still is a nightmare) but this is just not good. I know Beatrix from FF9 has a specific aesthetic to her but some of these visual decisions were just bad.
It super sucks because 7.2 was SUCH a good patch. I think the character writing in this was great, the dungeon wasn't AS intense as the others but still fun with great visual direction and neat mechanics, and the raid tier is phenomenal! 7.25 is also going to bring a lot of goodies in May. It's just a massive bummer the trial is such a let down for me.

I'm very passionate about this. Despite being from Kentucky, which most people would consider kinda sorta the south, I'm still very much Appalachian. I'd argue I live in a deeply Appalachian spot. And let me tell you just how bad it can be here.
Like it will break your spirit. (Rant below)
Just driving down the highway, you will see 75% of houses in a constant state of disrepair. Some a whole lot worse than others. I'm talking wood panels slapped over a fully exposed wall type of bad. The type that would have it condemned if it was anywhere else. Water damage from rain leaks into roofs, and soon enough, the entire house is caving in. I've seen people patch it and move on, ignoring the mold that is 100% there. Not because they want to, but because they can't afford the money for wood or shingles or any equipment to fix it. And this isn't just a one or two or even five time instance. This shit is every other house. It's so bad here. One drive, and you can see a perfectly kept mansion next to a falling apart trailer.
It's heartbreaking that I can easily name five people in my personal life who can not afford running water. Even worse is I was one of those people from ages 9-18. We didn't have a stove, washer or dryer. (I won't go too deep into it because it's a lot, but just know I speak as someone who lived at the bottom.) I know too many people that came to schools dirty and matted because their families could not or would not fix their hoarder tendencies. It was so bad my school had free food for every student because 90% of the school couldn't pay. And to make that situation even worse, they had to actively give kids food to take home over the weekends if they knew the situation was extra bad. Again, I speak as one of those kids.
It's too easy to drive down a highway and spot a house with 10 plus abandoned cars in their yards because they're broken and don't run and can't afford to have it towed to the scrap yard. Or even worse, they need it for parts. They pick it over using every last piece until there's nothing left but a useless frame rotting away in their yard. And again, this can be seen almost anywhere. I don't even blink an eye when I spot it. Good cars cost 15-30k. Minimum wage here is 7.25. You need a down-payment to get anything good now. It's cheaper to buy a lemon and fix it. Some people can barely afford that 2-6k for the lemon.
I had a whole rant on drugs alone. But I don't think I'm gonna post it. It's very personal and almost everyone I know has tried or used at one point. It's so easy to find here. Even without trying or searching or looking I know three dealers off the top of my head. I could easily get it. And no, not just weed, I'm talking meth, heroin, pills, etc.
Food is so bad here. You wouldn't even think about it. I have to drive forty minutes to get to the nearest Walmart or Kroger. The ONLY close option is Dollar General. And that is ten minutes away. The most "produce" they carry is lettuce, corn on the cob, and bananas. Everything else is packaged or processed food. If you want actual vegetables, you have to drive almost an hour. Not to mention, you also have to drive that same fourty five minutes to get to the nearest hospital. I have several wheelchair bound cousins. Most of them can barely get to that Dollar General. Unless you have a support system and someone with a GOOD running car you're fucked. You wanna walk to that Dollar General? It will take you TWO HOURS AND FIFTY MINUTES ONE WAY. Don't believe me??
(Forgive me for blurring out stuff, but I really don't want people to know where i am. I'm comfortable saying my state, but that's about it.)

It's so common for people for people to date/marry young. I'm only 24, and already 90% of my graduating class is married or has a child. Every year, there's at least 10 kids in high-school that gets pregnant. I went to school with at least five girls who had children before they graduated. (Specifically the same grade as me.) I can't even count on my hands how many times they marry or date a man have children with him and then he kicks her and/or children out. Or he cheats, and she stays because she has no one left. My own mother stayed and is staying for that very reason. You don't even realize how little help we get here.
If you're starving, well you're shit out of luck, our last food bank stopped doing that three months ago. The church thought it was too much effort. You might be able to seek help from the Catholic church a good ten minutes away, but they write your name on a list and monitor how many times you come. They won't let you take more than twice in a month. I know because my mom did everything she could to keep us fed.
You can shit on the accent. You can shit on the memes you see of southern people. But fuck you if you think we live like this because we are ignorant. The smartest people I know can't afford schooling. The smartest people I know do everything themselves. Fix their cars, fix their houses, grow their own food, and go to the library because they can't afford to buy books. They're so fucking smart because they have to know to do everything themselves. I'm tired of the 'dumb' stereotype. The only thing dumb about us is how badly funded our schools are. We have brilliant kids. My own sister has won so many awards. (She grew up in the dreges of poverty as well.) She could be anything. But she won't be. She can't afford the tuition. Whatever scholarships she gets is all she will have.
Again, this is a very personal topic for me. This system is broken here. It's made to keep you down and break you. There aren't jobs meant for climbing. You can't make a living here. The ones that do have good jobs have to drive out of state or do backbreaking labor. Or both.
I'm begging you. Just Google Appalachian poverty photos. I do not feel comfortable showing you real people who have not consented to their houses being posted on the internet. So just take a look. Because what you see is very fucking real.
like you really aren't allowed to say shit about southerners until you have firsthand seen how people live deep in the appalachian hollers because it is fucking tragic. the poverty and the food desert and the lack of resources in general is so bad. the drugs. yall dont understand
#appalachia#poverty#wealth disparity#personal rant#stereotypes#kentucky#appalachia is rough#we are so poor here#youre considered lucky if you make more than 20k in a year#just google images of here#youll see how bad it is
