Better Bones WindClan Family Tree: Draft 1
Tumblr media
[ID: The WindClan family tree for Better Bones. It's a color-coded chart of over 122 cats, with all of the cats alive as of the newest arc marked in green, and the 'progenitors' of each line marked in yellow.]
You may also want to see:
The Three Strict Rules
The Canon WindClan Diagnosis (for comparison)
ThunderClan
RiverClan
SkyClan
For the past few days, I've been trying to make ends meet with this tree. WindClan's biggest problem is how very few cats it has in-canon, with the Erins practically forgetting an entire generation between Tallstar's Revenge and TPB. As a result, I had to make this thing nearly from scratch.
The result is before you; there are 122 cats on this chart at the moment! I've used Missing Kits to try and patch the "bald spot" in the timeline, but I admittedly did have to scrounge up a couple cats here. There are still no OCs on this tree, but some unnamed background characters have been given names.
(I am also watching authorial statements like a HAWK in the hopes they will drop more names I can use to pad out some of the single-kit litters, like Appledawn's single kid Adderstone there)
I also have tried to balance the size of this Clan with BB!ThunderClan's count by ASC. There's now a little over 30 cats in this Clan.
Most of these trees have renamings, removals, and a changelog-- this one's going to be a bit different. Below the cut, you will see Renamings, Reserves, and a Changelog.
RENAMINGS: Format: Old Name (Origin) -> New Name (Reason)
Stagleap (WC) -> Stagfur (conflict)
Robinwing (WC) -> Robinflight (conflict)
Gorsetail (Po3) -> Whintail (Serious conflict with a Gorsetail in the very next arc)
Hickorynose -> Chicorynose (ecological accuracy)
Tornear -> Torear (Minor change to prevent him from being born Tornkit)
"Brown Tabby Tom" (Fire and Ice) -> Sparrowspeck (unnamed)
Whitetail's first sibling (OSC) -> Blackfur (unnamed; will update to canon name when revealed)
Whitetail's second sibling (OSC) -> Grayfoot (unnamed; will update to canon name when revealed)
Eaglekit (SSMK) -> Eagleswoop (save)
Storkkit (SSMK) -> Storkfeather (save)
Quailkit (SSMK) -> Quailheart (save)
Downkit (SSMK) -> Downwind (save)
Hillkit (SSMK) -> Hillrunner (save)
Adderkit (Cats of the Clans) -> Adderstone (save)
Galekit (OSC) -> Galerunner (save)
Buzzardkit (Po3) -> Buzzardclaw (save)
Drizzlepaw (SSMK) -> Drizzlefall (save)
Rustlepaw (SSMK) -> Rustlebush* (save) = Suffix might change, I'm not satisfied with it
Cranberrypaw (SSMK) -> Cranberrysplash (save)
Milkfur (FQ) -> Milktooth (conflict)
Snapper (Ravenpaw's Path) -> Snapstorm (MASSIVELY repurposed.)
Brushpaw (OSC) -> Brushblaze (save/repurpose)
Quickpaw (CotC) -> Quickclaw (shuffle)
Thistlepaw (CotC) -> Thistleseed (shuffle)
Pricklekit (CotC) -> Pricklepelt (shuffle)
(SSMK = Su Susann's Missing Kits)
RESERVES: There weren't enough cats for me to even consider cutting any; instead, here are some extra characters from field guides and unnamed in the background who could possibly show up again.
"Tortoiseshell Queen" from Fire and Ice; may just be Quailheart or Storkfeather, if not, her name will be Ruffclaw
"Gray Tom" from Fire and Ice; if named, he will be called Chipstone.
Swiftstar, Dalestar, Thrushbreeze, and Larkstripe's unnamed honor sire are all characters in Ripplestar's Rot, but they're just a bit too far back to be relevant at the moment.
Hareflight (FQ) is from the same time period. If they show up again, their name will be Harefrost.
Whitetail from Tigerclaw's leader ceremony was a WindClan cat in BB; she doesn't show up to his ceremony in this story, but she could appear on the tree at some point. If she does, her name will be Whitetuft.
From Code of the Clans, I am holding onto; Pebblefur, Acorntail, Morningcloud, Cloversplash, and Gorseclaw who would be renamed to Whinclaw.
Several leaders and Clerics could appear if BB ever went further back than Ripplestar's Rot. Swiftfoot, Stonestar, Duststar, Dovestar, Featherstar, Fallowstar, Rabbitstar... plus Mudpuddle, an ancient deputy.
Wanderkit and Muddyclaw from the Adventure Game are from WindClan; but currently not needed
Brightheart's surrogate kittens, Ambermoon, Snowbush, and Dewnose. Some could show up here if needed.
NOTE: If any of these characters show up again in canon, or are confirmed by authorial statement to have a different name, I will abide by that and update accordingly (unless the name is, of course, a conflict).
CHANGELOG: I tell you why I did the things and also point out what's different
Because this Clan was so empty and full of orphan warriors, I was able to completely make it however I wanted.
I also tried to make sure that MODERN WindClan is still VERY clean. Most of canon's "orphan warriors" are totally capable of being mixed with just about anyone else who's around in WindClan.
This is so I can accommodate just about whatever the Erins throw at us... within reason of course. Never doubt the Erin's ability to ruin a family tree.
In BB, Sunstrike and Furzepelt have expanded roles and survive to at least TBC, so I decided they would get Slightfoot. They're the kind of girls who would raise a rebel like him.
Ryestalk has been moved out of the Mist/Hare family. I have more need for her as a clean cat; and a better story to tell of her being afraid of tunneling. Her mother, Leafshine, died in a collapse.
I wanted to find some sort of in-between cat for Pigeonflight and Cranberrysplash, but unfortunately, I ran out of cats. She is probably adopted; found abandoned.
Fernstripe might move around in the future; for now she is a later birth to CranberryxDrizzle. If she moves, it'll probably be to SunxFurze.
Whiskernose is older now because I reworked his purpose in the Dark Forest
Drizzlefall was initially Runningbrook's child. When she dies in TNP, Webfoot raised her alongside his own kid, Rustlebush. They are marked as siblings for that purpose.
Mudclaw and Whitewater of ShadowClan had an unimportant fling during the journey. They both agreed it was an honor siring and would be kept quiet-- but Whitewater became a supporter of his during the rebellion.
When Mudclaw was smote by StarClan, she felt that the kittens were cursed.
She contacted Torear and arranged for him to take his nespring, but the night of the meeting, a snowstorm tore through the Clans. She couldn't take the runt, else he would freeze.
So, she kept Owlclaw of ShadowClan, and Harestar and Kestrelflight went to WindClan.
Brushblaze and Snapstorm are both ex-BloodClan, they did trading with WindClan just after the BloodClan battle, when Tallstar and Firestar opened up peace talks with the defeated Scourge.
Hareheatherbreeze and the Onestar Drama
So of course, one of the bigger changes in BB is that Harestar, Heathertail, and Breezepelt are in a polycule. I did a LOT with this fix in mind.
Onestar is now a single kitten. In Clanmew, his prefix is "Ul-arra," a whole fraction.
This was an expression of grief, as his mother Larksplash died in childbirth, along with his siblings. Cloudrunner was distant, unfortunately never recovering from the ordeal.
Him and Larksplash were quite old to be having a litter, and they knew the risks, but Onestar always felt like Cloudrunner blamed him, in a way.
Eventually, he wanted to raise a child. Whitetail honor dammed for him, and offered open coparentage, but Onestar politely declined. It was known Whitetail was Heathertail's parent, but they weren't very close.
Probably through a shared grievance with Onestar and feelings of responsibility over Heather, Whitetail and Brushblaze became very close. They eventually had two kittens-- Smokekit and Galekit.
Onestar interpreted this as them both trying to tell him they knew about Smoke, slipping further into paranoia towards the end.
Heathertail LOVED the two of them right away.
Unfortunately, Brushblaze laid down his life saving Kin refugees, including Heathertail and Breezepelt, by collapsing an escape tunnel on top of himself.
Galerunner and Smokehaze were only a few months old at the time.
Hareheatherbreeze will be keeping Brindlewing, Appleshine, and Woodsong! Brindlewing was first, with Apple and Wood coming in a second litter.
Tallstar's Family
In Tallstar's Collapse, Talltail leaves WindClan for a long period of time. He wandered with Jake and his family of nomads, eventually finding foundling kittens and deciding to adopt them with him.
But, eventually, he couldn't resist the pull of homesickness, and the desire to try and fix things in WindClan. He tried to leave the family he'd made behind-- but Fly followed him.
Talltail, naively, believed that Fly would remain innocent. That the kid would be above the battle culture of the Clans. He was wrong.
Fly became a ferocious warrior, even competing with him for the deputy position. If Talltail hadn't been quick or keen enough to kill an adder that was going for Heatherstar's grand-nephew, Flytail may have become leader of WindClan.
The kit was named Adderkit for this event, later becoming Adderstone.
Flytail, his mate Eagleswoop, and one of his daughters died in the WindClan Massacre. Talltail had already lost two half-siblings in the war.
What was once a large family was reduced to Tallstar, Stoneclaw, Wrenflight and her children.
Stoneclaw put off having kits for a time, eventually having two one-kit litters with her mate, Snapstorm; Buzzardclaw and Crouchfoot.

Yesterday I went to the crafts fair Nadelwelt (Needle World). It was really interesting. There was a part with exhibitions of mostly fabric related art and then a section with shops. I was surprised to see so many French vendors and shops from the Netherlands. The shops also had projects on display and I took even more photos for inspiration. There weren't a lot of fabrics on sale (well, at least not really great deals) or similar but, as I had hoped, there was a lot of fabric to see live and touch (in Germany there aren't that many quilt shops and I get most of my fabric online).
My purchases under the cut.
At first, I was really good, not buying anything but looking first. I had a list of things I could use and was "allowed" to buy (12 FQ for a baby quilt, backing for another baby quilt, some rope for several projects ...). And I gave myself a budget (which I thought was very comfortably high).
My resolve weakened when we got to a booth that had hundreds of little containers with charms to pick and chose
Tumblr media
Next was a booth with patches and pins
Tumblr media
And finally a French fabric designer who had beautiful minky panels and set for bags and backpacks.
Tumblr media
Now my resolve was broken. These mini spools I could not pass by
Tumblr media
And then I did buy fabric. I tried to buy only fabric I would not easily get somewhere else like Japanese fabric ...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(these cats are adorable! And great for fussy cutting)
... And African designs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was so weakened, I even bought some regular fabric on sale (which I had told myself not to do because I have enough and can always get those easily online)
Tumblr media
With the rest of my budget, I got two pieces of Sashiko threat, because I wanted to try this technique and a little piece of prepared cloth.
Tumblr media
Oh, my shopping list? I got nothing from that list (technically, the 12 FQ of the African fabrics would qualify, but I decided to keep them for myself).

Week 9, October 23rd, 2024
We’ve arrived at the ninth week of the course. We were past the half-way point in the semester. I was feeling comfortable in my understanding of improvisational performing, particularly with my small number of group mates. We were experimenting with combining visual and audio elements together in this performance. My group mate built a MAX patch that made for some cool audio outputs, and my other group mate brought in a hand-made circuit board that also made for some cool audio!! In our first go, I was on a midi that controlled the delay and X Y Z planes of the visuals. I also controlled the volume of my other group mates who were producing audio. This performance was, by far, my most favourite of the course. It was here that i began to develop a taste for the style and elements I enjoyed in an improvisation performance.
I’ve provided some stills from the taped performance. For the link to videos: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1--fQ-ZLiJezhbJldqH9OtdidCRyhiEdc/view?usp=drivesdk ,

I made a pair of pants today with the help of my mom before she and my dad left. They were visiting us for nearly three days, and OMG I am wiped out. BUT! I now know how to make a pair of pants. They do need a little more adjusting, and she'll walk me through that in a few days, once she's home and on Skype. It was a great learning experience, and I now have scraps of the fabric to play with, which is a beige linen-rayon blend. This stuff is soooo nice!
She also loves the Cabbage Patches quilt top. I'll be working on handquilting it over the next week seeing as it decided to pinch everywhere when I was machine quilting it. She's actually quite pleased about that, so no complaints from her. I had no intention of making it look like cabbages, but the blocks just sort of...did. It's very amusing, especially considering the Cabbage Patch dolls were really popular when I was a child, and I had one that looked like me. This is a little silly nostalgia for her to hang on one of her walls.
I've also cleared off and prepped my cutting table for the Earth Science quilt I'll be making.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It calls for a total of 30 fat quarters, which is ridiculous when I can use yardage and save myself a great deal of money. Plus, the four prints are so wildly varied it'll look like I used a bunch of FQs anyway. Oh, and I've decided that I'll be handquilting this as soon as the top is finished because I'm keeping this if it doesn't sell within 30 days of listing it in my shop. I've removed it from the commission page, but it was listed for just under $800 USD. If this is one you've been wanting, keep an eye on my shop. The quilt likely won't be listed until the end of June.
My mom surprised me with a visit to a quilt shop and got a daisy print for me. Daisies are my favorite flower, but they're a hard one to find in quilt shops. Sunflowers are popular, but daisies are not. This print is very pretty and will be used for making a thing for myself. When that will happen...is a mystery, seeing as I'm doing my best to bring in some money, and doing that requires selling the things I make. Which is why I rarely making anything for myself.
My husband started his new job today!!! It's delightfully boring, nearly zero stress, and he won't be anywhere near a kitchen. He's very much enjoying it, especially since it comes with retirement, benefits, and pays fairly well. He's being trained by the person he's replacing, and the person training him is retiring on Saturday. He already got the time off he needs for his gallbladder removal surgery next month, so no worries there.
That's it for now. I'm need to go to sleep so I can focus on handquilting tomorrow. From 8AM-2PM, the sun creates a blinding glare on my sewing desk and machine , which means no sewing until after the sun has moved along. Handquilting in the morning, sewing in the afternoon, and then winding down in the evening.

My #1 post of 2022
with the third ancient coming to CRK, i sure hope there's another source of ancient soulstones besides the ONE arena shop slot.
HONESTLY
Not that this applies to me cuz i don't use any ancients on my team. My only one is pv and cotton-parfait together are literally overpowered
Also legendary supremacy. Sea fairy my beloved

The Swan-Mills Saga Annual Couples’ Awards
Tumblr media
Ladies (and in broader sense gentlemen), welcome to the most prestigious event of the year - The Swan-Mills Saga Couples’ Awards!
Tonight, we are going to celebrate the accomplishments of love. A jury of thoroughly selected individuals cast their votes and you are welcome to witness their picks of the best couples.
Following rules were chosen for this year’s contestants:
1. the couple must feature in Sins of the Past, The Once & Future Queen  (by the ever so talented @swanqueeneverafter) or both,
2. during these two stories, the couple must pass a major relationship milestone.
We sincerely hope you’ll enjoy our picks...
!!!WARNING - SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Rocky Road to the Chapel of Love
Tumblr media
Pairing: Ella of Valencia/Henry Swan-Mills Status:  married Henry and Ella Swan-Mills went through a bit of a rough patch with Henry letting his fianceé go on an adventure alone (or well not alone, which was half of the problem), but in the end, they managed to overcome all hurdles and as far as we know are happily married and living in a house of their own.
The Star-Crossed Lovers
Tumblr media
Pairing: Tristan/Isolde Status: Isolde is dead Quite the opposite fate awaited the pair(s) in our second category. Before Romeo&Juliet there were Tristan&Isolde. Although not exactly the milestone most couples want to go through, the death of Isolde brought the pair immortality AND a place in our contest (which makes it almost worth it in the eyes of our jury).
Honourable mention: Zelena Mills/Robin Hood 2.0
Tumblr media
The Old Married Couple
Tumblr media
Pairing: Xena/Gabrielle Status: engaged Contrary to what the title of this category (and their behaviour of the last 50 years give or take) might suggest, the Warrior Princess and the Battling Bard of Potidaea have yet to seal the deal. Finally, at the end of TO&FQ Xena asked her soulmate for to marry her, and I think it’s pointless to say that the jury is crying tears of joy even now.
Cottage Core/Teashop AU
Tumblr media
Pairing: Tinkerbell/Tiger Lily Status: dating With a few twists in the timeline caused by an impromptu trip to the past (of which more later), the couple taking our next award are literally a pair of your fairy aunts who will sell you delicious herbal tea spiced up with fairy dust in their newly opened shop. Not counting X&G, Tink and Tiger Lily are quite possibly together for the longest time of all the couples featured here. Certainly a very pleasant surprise.
The Fresh Meat
Tumblr media
Pairing: Drizella/Dr Whale Status: dating And from the oldest’ to the very freshest twosome in the United realms. With both of her sisters married, Drizella decided that she’d like to put a ring on it too. The jury could not be happier fo her and Storybrooke’s hottest surgeon, Dr Victor Whale, to find love after their past hardships. Perhaps we’ll even get invited to their wedding soon...
The Wholeass 10-course Meal with a Cherry on Top
Tumblr media
Pairing: Merida/Anastasia Status: married Speaking of weddings, this one was the titular cherry on top. Where to even start with Anastasia and Merida? They got it all, meet cute, crush/flirting without noticing but everyone else knows phase, the meet the dead relatives stuff, True Love’s Kiss AND a wedding/coronation! Looks like Scottish lasses know how to get thing done, eh? (the jury hereby asks for a step-by-step instructions)
Once Upon a First Time
Tumblr media
Pairing: Emma Swan-Milla/Regina Swan-Mills Status: married Before you start to protest against Swan Queen getting awarded despite already going through all the standard relationship milestones, let us point out a very simple fact - thanks to the aforementioned trip back in time Emma, Mulan and Tiger Lily were forced to make, Mrs Swan-Mills met a pre-Evil Queen version of her wife and managed to be Regina’s first lover. Thus making their night of passion in a tent their first time thirty years before they officially meet in the “You’re Henry’s birthmother?!” scene, which is by the jury unanimously seen as an award worthy relationship milestone (not that Emma needed any more reasons to be smug little shit about it).
Something to Talk About
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Lena/Zelena Mills, Lena/Kara Danvers Status: unknown And so we’ve come to our last category. As the title may suggest both of these pairings are about to be the talk of the town for weeks, if only we knew which of them. During her journey from darkness, Morgana Pendragon left behind (among other things) her name and chose a fresh start where else than in Storybrooke as a new mayor. It goes without saying that as such, Lena is one of the best catches in the United Realms, the question is, who is gonna capture her (literally magic-filled) heart - the former Wicked Witch who saved her life, or the cunning new reporter with Daily Mirror? ;)
Now, thank you all for reading, let us know what you think of our picks.
A special thank you goes to the one and only @swanqueeneverafter for giving us all of the pairings above and much much more (just through the course of SOTP and TO&FQ twice the number of couples were featured).
Tumblr media
May we meet at another celebration of The Swan-Mills saga again soon!

Reasons why WildHunt was the best Elfquest series.
Elves acting like flawed individuals, squabbling over bullshit, making mistakes, doing terrible things.
Showing the terrible effects of elfin carelessness on humans. Not even just elfin magic, just stupid things that could have been prevented by forthought.
Ember being her own person. FQ basically tried to make Ember into a female Cutter clone, but WH allowed her to find her own strengths and move her own way.
Moonshade’s changes. Moonshade starts to become unhappy with her life at this point, even though it basically got dumped once the series ended. If this arc had continued, her storyline in FQ would have been so much better.
Ember makes the hard choices. A lot of people think Ember was kind of obnoxious in this series, and sometimes she was, but she also made choices that most people wouldn’t have, and lived with the consequences.
Patch. Choplicker’s death sucked, but cute baby Patch, followed by cute adult Patch, was a breath of wolffish fresh air. So of course Wingthing had to steal him and give him to her SO SPECIAL somehow half Wolfrider not-wolfblooded Venka. Ugh.
Sidestepping the love triangle. WildHunt made it clear that there wasn’t a love triangle. Ember fell out of love with Mender, and fell in love with Teir. There were hurt feelings but people acted like adults.
Elves acting like adults. WaRP has a tendency to act like the elves actually are the innocent forest sprites they appear as. WH threw it out the window and they quarreled and reconciled like grown ups.

I decided to whip this gal up over the last couple of weeks. I had a bundle of gray/black/white batiks. I won it from Sew Yeah Quilting in Las Vegas. I decided to use a black background with it just so it'd show up more.
The bright squares and cornerstones were a last-minute choice. I just wanted to spice it up a bit. The pattern really has an "inner" section and leaves the outsides a bit barer. When you look at it, you sorta lose the stars here and there. But, each star has a bright batik in it. I also decided to use some grunge for the cornerstones instead of just background or another batik. They're lighter so they don't show up quite as well in the photo.
I did a simple meander on the quilting with a variegated thread. I really didn't know what to do for the thread. Do I use black and let it go over all the whites? Do I use white and let it show up all over the black? Well, this choice was my best choice. It's funny because when the thread turns white, it looks like a ravel on the quilt, then it just disappears into black on black. But it sorta gives it some character.
I matched thread colors for the center squares. I was able to open a couple of Aurifil spools I hadn't touched yet. They were perfect matches. Although the yellow batik was bright, and the thread was a very pale yellow.
The pattern is free from Moda Fabrics. Moda includes a free pattern in their Bella Solids line of fat quarter bundles. The patterns usually use almost all the twelve-or-so FQs. Donna Jordan used this pattern in green with a white background (but the pattern actually came in another color bundle). Hers was great, but I knew I could do it a totally different way with some color play. The pattern is free on her site as well as a video tutorial.
The color placement of the center squares is purposeful, too. I used pink in the corners, and two more pinks in the middle. The red and yellow squares were originally in a < or > formation, but at the last minute, I flipped the center row, so it offset the point of the implied arrow. The oranges just sorta bookmark that. I also did some E's in the bright squares instead of a simple meander. I did my usual meander throughout the quilt as well as stitched my name in it (twice), some swirls, a few small attempts at feathers, and my version of a fat serpentine.
Pattern: Stars and 4-Patches from Moda Fabrics (free pattern) Fabric: Shades of Grey from Batik Textiles; unknown bright batiks; Moda Grunge Kiwi Thread: Aurifil 2250 (red), 2530 (pink), 1133 (orange); 2105 (yellow); Coats and Clark Multi Black (variegated; quilting) Background: Riley Blake black solid Backing and binding: Riley Blake charcoal solid Size: 72.5"x90"

Increase your Linux server Internet speed with TCP BBR congestion control
Increase your Linux server Internet speed with TCP BBR congestion control
Posted on July 21, 2017July 21, 2017in Categories Cloud Computing last updated July 21, 2017
I recently read that TCP BBR has significantly increased throughput and reduced latency for connections on Google’s internal backbone networks and google.com and YouTube Web servers throughput by 4 percent on average globally – and by more than 14 percent in some countries. The TCP BBR patch needs to be applied to the Linux kernel. The first public release of BBR was here, in September 2016. The patch is available to any one to download and install. Another option is using Google Cloud Platform (GCP). GCP by default turned on to use a cutting-edge new congestion control algorithm named TCP BBR.
Requirements
Make sure that your Linux kernel has the following option compiled as either module or inbuilt into the Linux kerne:
CONFIG_TCP_CONG_BBR
CONFIG_NET_SCH_FQ
You must use the Linux kernel version 4.9 or above. On a Debian/Ubuntu Linux type the following grep command/egrep command: $ grep 'CONFIG_TCP_CONG_BBR' /boot/config-$(uname -r) $ grep 'CONFIG_NET_SCH_FQ' /boot/config-$(uname -r) $ egrep 'CONFIG_TCP_CONG_BBR|CONFIG_NET_SCH_FQ' /boot/config-$(uname -r) Sample outputs: Fig.01: Make sure that your Linux kernel has TCP BBR option setup I am using Linux kernel version 4.10.0-28. If above options not found, you need to either compile latest kernel or install the latest version of Linux kernel.
How to enable TCP BBR congestion control on Linux
Edit the /etc/sysctl.conf file or create a new file in /etc/sysctl.d/ directory: $ sudo vi /etc/sysctl.conf OR $ sudo vi /etc/sysctl.d/10-custom-kernel-bbr.conf Append the following two lines: net.core.default_qdisc=fq net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control=bbr Save and close the file i.e. exit from the vim/vi text editor by typing :x!. Next you must either reboot the Linux box or reload the changes using the sysctl command: $ sudo reboot OR $ sudo sysctl --system Sample outputs:
* Applying /etc/sysctl.d/10-console-messages.conf ... kernel.printk = 4 4 1 7 * Applying /etc/sysctl.d/10-custom.conf ... net.core.default_qdisc = fq net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control = bbr * Applying /etc/sysctl.d/10-ipv6-privacy.conf ... net.ipv6.conf.all.use_tempaddr = 2 net.ipv6.conf.default.use_tempaddr = 2 * Applying /etc/sysctl.d/10-kernel-hardening.conf ... kernel.kptr_restrict = 1 * Applying /etc/sysctl.d/10-link-restrictions.conf ... fs.protected_hardlinks = 1 fs.protected_symlinks = 1 * Applying /etc/sysctl.d/10-lxd-inotify.conf ... fs.inotify.max_user_instances = 1024 * Applying /etc/sysctl.d/10-magic-sysrq.conf ... kernel.sysrq = 176 * Applying /etc/sysctl.d/10-network-security.conf ... net.ipv4.conf.default.rp_filter = 1 net.ipv4.conf.all.rp_filter = 1 net.ipv4.tcp_syncookies = 1 * Applying /etc/sysctl.d/10-ptrace.conf ... kernel.yama.ptrace_scope = 1 * Applying /etc/sysctl.d/10-zeropage.conf ... vm.mmap_min_addr = 65536 * Applying /etc/sysctl.d/99-sysctl.conf ... * Applying /etc/sysctl.conf ...
You can verify new settings with the following sysctl command. Run: $ sysctl net.core.default_qdisc net.core.default_qdisc = fq $ sysctl net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control = bbr
Test it
In my testing between two long distance Linux server with Gigabit ports connected to the Internet, I was able to bump 250 Mbit/s into 800 Mbit/s. You can use tools such as the wget command to measure bandwidths speed: $ wget https://your-server-ip/file.iso I also noticed I was able to push almost 100 Mbit/s for my OpenVPN traffic. Previously I was able to push up to 30-40 Mbit/s only. Overall I am quite satisfied with TCP BBR congestion control option for my Linux box.

Top Ten Wolf Names
@northstarfan, top ten best Wolf names, but I don’t know if they’ll be very interesting to you.
I actually found this a really hard list to compile, although I do admit I didn’t allocate too much time to it. It’s mostly WARP canon wolves, with the exception of a Wild Hunt character.
One thing that became very, very clear while going through this list was the fact that, like cat and rabbit owners, the Wolfriders prefer the rule of cool when it comes to wolf names. This might also be an element of how, until post KOTBW, the wolves were not mounts or pets, but full fledged members of the community in their own right.
So, one of the things I incorporated into my list was how the name indicated something about the wolf’s elf friend, as well as the wolf itself. I wanted to think about why someone might give a certain name, and what that reflected on the elf.
10. Holtfinder
Tumblr media
So, Holtfinder is Moonshade’s new wolf friend, as of “The Quest Begins”. Most people might not know it, but Moonshade’s wolf is one of the two that dies during the desert trek. Obviously, this is a new wolf friend, acquired during the sojourn in the desert.
You might picture Holtfinder as a squirming puppy, the kind that spends their time trying to find a little den to snuggle in, maybe under the blankets with Moonshade, and being named for that reason.
However, Moonshade is noted for being one of the Wolfriders who adjusts the most badly to Sorrow’s End. Even up until Cutter decides to leave, she’s asking if they can come along, back to the forest. Moonshade is often portrayed as happiest in the woods, and in the holt(making her sudden decision to turn into a palace dweller very jarring), and her decision to name her wolf friend after this desire may have symbolized her homesickness and desire to return.
9. Smoketreader
Tumblr media
One Eye has always fascinated readers, even me. From his outfit, like Scouter’s, it’s straight out of a book of Fairy Tales, to his missing eye, to his relationship with Clearbrook, we love him, unquestionably, completely dismissing the fact that he is actually incredibly boring. Perhaps the appeal is that his character is nothing more than what we choose to make of it, and that he doesn’t look like our fathers.
Smoketreader would have been higher on this list, except that I have been completely misremembering his name as Stormtreader, so, I had to reconsider it.
Smoketreader is a simple, straightforward name. One Eye’s few characterization points include that he is a simple, straightforward elf. Smoketreader makes sense in that way, if you’re trying to convey that your wolf is as quiet as smoke. Or maybe he named him because he ran out of the smoke during the fire.
This is mostly an excuse to point out that One Eye got a wolf friend during his eye loss. See, while the humans were burning his eye out, he sent to his wolf-friend, who had died months ago. Another wolf answered this sending, and it’s romantic to imagine that Smoketreader’s name came from his arrival. One Eye’s remaining eye sees his rescuer through the smoke of the burning brand descending toward his remaining eye.
Then Wolfrider happened and Wendy forgot what timelines were, so...
8. Bundles
Tumblr media
While I stand by my multiple previous statements about Tyleet and her entire childhood being a timesuck of epic proportions, that it adds nothing to the story, and that it takes precious comic book space away that might have been devoted to Venka, she does give her wolves good names. “Bundles” is adorable, exactly the kind of name that a little girl might give to her puppy, based more on, well, how the word sounds than what it might mean.
7. Silvergrace
Tumblr media
Amazingly, there aren’t a lot of shots of Silvergrace with Rainsong, her elf friend. There aren’t any body shots of Silvergrace at all, this is a random wolf with puppies that helps call the Wolfriders to help Cutter after Bearclaw dies.
Silvergrace and Newstar are both simple, descriptive names, but what they describe is pure loveliness. It’s as easy to imagine Silvergrace sliding like mercury through the world as it is to imagine Rainsong looking at her newborn daughter and seeing her as a bright burst of hope following a horrific tragedy. Woodlock must have named Wing, because Mender is another descriptive name, full of hope. Rainsong is a mother and a poet.
6. Filcher
Tumblr media
Filcher is, basically, one of the bright lights of FQ. He provides some fun and humour in the frankly terrible series that it otherwise lacks.
Cutter likes to give wolves obvious names. “Nightrunner” and “Holdfast” were a little too symbolic, though, whereas one can easily see Cutter giving Filcher his name in a moment of amused frustration. Cutter’s wolf friends are usually dignified or angsty, but Filcher is pure joy, and you get the feeling that Cutter felt the same way.
5. Snapper
Tumblr media
Snapper is a pretty indication of how Bearclaw names wolves, with a possible predecessor named Crest. He likes quick names that indicate a physical or personal characteristic of the wolf in question, which goes with his mental tendencies to snap judgements and impulsive behaviour. The wolf snaps? Snapper, forevermore.
4. Blackfell
Tumblr media
More an omen of Bearclaw’s descent into violence and hatred than a true wolf friend, Blackfell was always unusual in both his introductions. In Blood Of Ten Chiefs, volume 1, he appears as a stranger wolf who, having lost his cubs, has stolen a human child for his mate to care for. This story shows Bearclaw as a hero, who returns the child and allows Blackfell’s mate to care for Cutter and Amber’s new baby, Nightfall. Yeah, Warp has always been this bad.
In Wolfrider, Blackfell is almost demonic, otherworldly. He reinforces Bearclaw’s violence, and, almost until the end, seems to delight in it, although he does have a genuine affection for Bearclaw. He’s not a member of the pack, but the leader of another pack that neighbours with the Wolfriders.
Both times Blackfell is not named by Bearclaw. He knows Bearclaw’s soulname, and Bearclaw knows Blackfell’s name, as if it appears inside him. And what a name it is, evocative of the black dogs of British legend, the foretellers of death and misfortune. He disappears after Bearclaw’s death like the ghost dogs of legend. It’s tempting to wonder if Timmain and Kimo are truly the only shapechanging elves who took to the form of wolves.
3. Patch
Tumblr media
Patch has a sweet backstory. Sort of?
Um...
Patch is actually a gift from Teir during his stalking phase.
But Patch is a good point about how Ember resembles her grandfather. Clearly named named for the smudge of black fur on his nose. Ember went for the obvious here. Patch is loads of fun, and Ember clearly adores him, but she just as clearly made a choice about his name in about three seconds.
2. Warfrost
Tumblr media
Most people go for the obvious when looking for images of Warfrost, and I have to admit that he’s pretty cute when he wants Cutter’s attention, but for my mind this image of two damaged souls barely reaching out for each other is the best illustration of Cutter’s tenuous bond with his second wolf.
One of Cutter’s many poetically named wolves, Warfrost is my favourite, so he might not deserve to be on this list, let alone this high on the list.. He had even more personality than Nightrunner, with abuse and imprisonment making him stubborn and independent. He always made it clear that he just happened to be in the same place as Cutter, doing the same thing, and that it didn’t have anything to do with love. “Warfrost” was named for Cutter’s hope for recovery, both for his tribe, himself, and for this strange, fierce wolf.
Warfrost died during Cutter’s long wait. It was another loss for Cutter, one more wound among many, but the old warrior had clearly found his peace, and I’d like to think he’s looking at Cutter and hoping his old friend finds his.
1.Choplicker
Tumblr media
It’s one of the great moments in Elfquest.
Back when WARP still pretended that the Wolfriders had ritual and traditions beyond “the (poorly defined) way”, Wolfrider children expecting their first Wolfrider waited outside a wolf den for a pup who emerged, expectant of loving bonds.
Choplicker’s name illustrates Ember’s childhood personality perfectly. Impetuous, happy, not afraid to be a little goofy. Suntop, like Cutter, is a poet, Ember loves to go with whatever comes in her head. “Choplicker” is obviously her first thought on confrontation with puppy kisses. Choplicker himself never outgrew his goofy name, and we were all the happier for it. It’s the perfect name, both for him, and for his rider.
